[0:02][Applause] [Music] do you hate your looks do you get depressed every

[0:32]single time you see yourself in the mirror do you just wish

[0:35]you were more beautiful your body was more attractive well you're not

[0:40]alone according to various studies conducted in the US in Canada in

[0:44]the UK in Australia in many parts of the world the majority

[0:50]of people are not happy or satisfied with their looks that's why

[0:56]you find people spending tens of billions of dollars every year here

[1:01]on cosmetic surgeries to improve their looks the minority of people confess

[1:08]that they are happy with their looks According to some studies 20%

[1:14]of people will say yes I am satisfied and happy with my

[1:17]looks now this is creating a psychological crisis for a lot of

[1:23]people many people suffer from depression because they are unhappy with their

[1:27]looks so what do you do if you're are unhappy with your

[1:31]looks interestingly according to a Hadith that a has reported in his

[1:41]book thisi is from he reports that one day a man came

[1:49]to the prophet sallallah alai and he asked him the following question

[1:55]he told him is God going to ask me about acts other

[2:08]than the obligatory acts will I be held accountable for not doing

[2:12]recommended acts now the W the obligatory sure we have to do

[2:17]it but the non-obligatory acts the must the recommended acts is God

[2:24]going to hold me accountable if I don't do them the prophet

[2:26]told him no Allah will not hold you accountable because they're recommended

[2:30]they're not WI then he made a very bold statement he said

[2:37]I swear by the one who set you in truth I will

[2:47]never do anything for Allah other than the W I'll only do

[2:53]the bare minimum I refuse to do any recommended acts I'll only

[2:57]do that which is obligatory why that's a bold statement to make

[3:05]why are you committing not to do any recommended acts what's disappointing

[3:08]you what are you upset about the prophet asked him why can

[3:15]you explain yourself and this was his response and I feel like

[3:22]this response resonates with a lot of people he said because Allah

[3:27]subhana wa tala has made me ugly I'm not happy with my

[3:32]looks I don't find myself attractive or handsome and so I'm upset

[3:38]with God for giving me these looks so I'll just do the

[3:41]bare minimum of the W so I don't get punished but as

[3:46]for me to do the must and the recommended acts forget it

[3:50]I'm not going to do that this man hated his looks you

[3:57]see that this problem this dilemma existed even in the past at

[4:00]the time of the Prophet sallallahu alai it probably existed since the

[4:05]first day of humanity now the had states that the prophet sallallahu

[4:10]alaih did not comment anything he did not respond to anything he

[4:15]did not say anything because many times the prophet waits for Revelation

[4:19]so that Allah subhana wa ta'ala dispatches jbra to tell him what

[4:26]to say so J according to this Hadith descended on the prophet

[4:29]and he [Music] said oh Muhammad your lord greets you he conveys

[4:42]his greetings to you and what an honor it is to be

[4:47]receiving the special greetings of Allah subhah wa ta'ala your lord greets

[4:53]you and he tells you look at the special message of Allah

[5:12]to this man tell my servant so and so who's complaining give

[5:16]him my Salam deliver to him my Salam and tell him are

[5:20]you not satisfied if on the day of judgment tomorrow I resurrect

[5:26]you with Safety and Security you'll be safe on the day of

[5:30]judgment will that not give you happiness the man was shocked he

[5:38]told him y Allah your lord remembered me he actually mentioned me

[5:41]specifically he said yes he did then he had a change of

[5:48]heart he switched 180 degrees to the other side and he said

[5:53]now I take an oath I swear by the one who sent

[5:58]you as a messenger any recommended acts that I can do I

[6:07]will do so I'm happy I'm now satisfied that's just beautiful this

[6:14]teaches us how to be satisfied with spiritual blessings you have so

[6:21]many spiritual blessings God has given you the gift of faith you

[6:25]know how valuable that is that's far more important than our looks

[6:28]or the appearance of our bodies having a good family having intelligence

[6:36]intellect Allah subhana tal has chosen you over all these creations to

[6:40]give you the gift of intellect access to education spirituality just look

[6:46]at around just look around you you are inundated with all these

[6:52]beautiful blessings that God has given you and this is what counts

[6:58]when we die will it really matter what our looks look like

[7:03]the Earth is going to equally decompose us whether this person is

[7:08]handsome or not the Fate is the same in the grave whether

[7:13]this person is beautiful or not the Fate is the same in

[7:16]the grave so this experience that IM conveys to us that happened

[7:26]with this man and the prophet really teaches us how to overcome

[7:31]this diss satisfaction just look at the spiritual blessings Allah has given

[7:36]you focus on those not on your physical appearance so that's one

[7:40]way to address the discontentment that people find when they think of

[7:49]their looks and when they are unhappy with their looks the second

[7:55]strategy the second effective way to avoid being depressed and upset over

[8:02]your looks is to remind yourself never to be at the mercy

[8:08]of external factors to be happy often times we're searching for external

[8:12]factors to be happy I want to get happiness from my job

[8:17]from the economy from this person whether they love me or not

[8:21]from my looks from my social media presence from the number of

[8:25]likes I get we're always trying to seek happiness from these external

[8:31]factors but these external factors don't really give you happiness their happiness

[8:38]is temporal it's superficial the internal factors are what gives you are

[8:46]what give you peace external factors are Ever Changing you can't trust

[8:51]them don't put yourself at the mercy of external factors find peace

[8:56]in your heart in the kindness of your heart and in your

[9:01]relationship with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in your confidence in your contentment

[9:06]contentment is what can give you peace not these external factors that's

[9:11]the second strategy the third strategy is to remind yourself that who

[9:17]gave you your looks God gave me my looks and I am

[9:20]God's gift this is God's Gift my looks are the gift of

[9:26]God love it embrace it be honored that God chose these looks

[9:36]for you Allah States in verse three Allah has created the heavens

[9:45]the universe the Earth in truth Allah has formed you shaped you

[9:51]given your looks and he's given you the best of shapes the

[9:57]system that he's given you is the best you may not find

[10:03]your looks attractive But realize God is the one who gave you

[10:08]these looks that's a special Divine gift if someone whom you truly

[10:14]truly love gives you a gift you love that gift even if

[10:16]it's a simple gift even if it's a gift that's not even

[10:22]attractive but you'll say to yourself my beloved gave this gift to

[10:25]me this is valuable this is valuable have you heard about people

[10:30]deeply in love with each other and then one lover gives to

[10:35]the another level something like even um a tissue paper right a

[10:39]tissue and the person will keep it for the rest of his

[10:43]life oh my beloved gave me this tissue what gives value to

[10:48]the gift is the one who's gifting it to you Allah gifted

[10:51]you these looks accept them embrace them feel honored that he chose

[10:55]them for you the fourth strategy is not to compare yourself to

[11:02]others studies at Stanford University and the University of Massachusetts they found

[11:11]that 70% of college women say they feel worse about their own

[11:16]looks after reading women's magazines after constantly comparing themselves to others stop

[11:23]that comparison that St that triggers a lot of depression in you

[11:26]be satisfied with your looks don't worry about others don't constantly look

[11:31]at others and compare them to yourself avoid these triggers you will

[11:36]be more at peace you'll be doing yourself a favor number five

[11:42]the fifth strategy realize this is a trial from Allah it's a

[11:48]test of our faith remember life is a trial so be patient

[11:55]perhaps God is trying you do you really have faith genuinely and

[11:59]sincerely or we just show Faith because we get what we want

[12:03]if I look good then I'll worship God and I'll be happy

[12:06]but if I don't get the looks that I want I'm not

[12:10]going to worship God that's not sincere worship these are not sincere

[12:14]intentions sometimes God gives you looks that are not desirable or you're

[12:22]not happy with them in order to try you and remember that

[12:25]Allah subhana tala will compensate you for going through this Tri when

[12:33]you accept what God has given you Allah compensates you now finally

[12:37]if none of this is convincing to anyone and you just want

[12:41]those good looks you don't want to hear any of this okay

[12:46]fine just be patient in heaven you'll choose your looks there's a

[12:50]very interesting Hadith from the prophet sallallah alai in which the prophet

[12:55]States according to thisth the prophet says in heaven there's a market

[13:04]there's a store there's a market you don't buy and sell merchandise

[13:11]in it so what do you buy in it what do you

[13:13]get from it you go to pick images the figures of the

[13:24]images of men and the images of women you look at an

[13:30]image you love the image you basically take on that image so

[13:33]in heaven you can choose the looks that will satisfy you be

[13:39]patient get into heaven and Allah will give you the looks that

[13:42]you want just hang on now in the holy month of Ramadan

[13:46]let's focus on our spiritual Beauty that's what truly makes you beautiful

[13:52]the month of Ramadan teaches you that when you are spending quality

[13:56]time with your Lord with your n with your soul you're worshiping

[14:03]Allah you're learning you're increasing your knowledge you know the spiritual beauty

[14:08]that emanates from you captivates the Angels the angels in the universe

[14:15]see a light emanating from planet Earth what is this light this

[14:20]is your life when you read the Quran when you supplicate when

[14:23]you're content with what God has will for you when you have

[14:28]Solid Faith that generates a beam of light to the angels and

[14:32]they see your spiritual Beauty and they pray for you so in

[14:37]the month of Ramadan let us work let us focus on the

[14:41]spiritual Beauty let's focus on the Divine gifts that Allah is showering

[14:46]us with and let's use this month of Ramadan to improve that

[14:51]inner beauty to polish our and improve our and here's one final

[14:57]tip when you look at yourself in the mirror the next time

[15:04]that you look at yourself in the mirror read this beautiful Dua

[15:08]that the prophet taugh if you look at yourself in a mirror

[15:22]three times say allahar God is greater than anything that we can

[15:30]imagine God is greatest and then after that say oh Allah just

[15:39]as if just as you've given me a good form you've given

[15:45]me my body you've given me my looks oh Allah I want

[15:48]you to improve my oh Allah you've given me the tools that

[15:52]I need to survive you've given me eyes you've given me a

[15:55]nose you've given me all these senses if you look at the

[15:59]system of the human being it's it's it's a perfect form it's

[16:04]a perfect figure oh Allah just as you've given us these figures

[16:12]improve our let us work on our moral and ethical dimensions and

[16:18]then the prophet s says to if something is about to you

[16:28]know depress you if something is concerning you if you're scared of

[16:36]something oh Allah I ask you by the right of Muhammad and

[16:41]Al Muhammad to relieve me from this and Allah subhana tala will

[16:46]re [Applause] [Music]
