[0:52]in our last lesson we mentioned the tradition by imam that mentioned
[1:00]that the period between the advent of isan is of 500 years
[1:14]half of that period during half of that period the proofs of
[1:22]god the people who were representing allah during that time were in
[1:27]reba they were in hiding the tradition mentioned that there was no
[1:32]prophet during those 250 years and that the scholar meaning the divine
[1:40]scholar the scholar appointed by god the infallible scholar uh were what
[1:46]weren't vahreen they were not apparent so they were what they were
[1:50]in occultation in hiding and we mentioned that based on that tradition
[1:59]salman would travel from one place to another and would go from
[2:09]one scholar to another in search of what in search of the
[2:14]truth and in search of rasulallah muhammad then we read a tradition
[2:23]we began with the with the lengthy tradition regarding salman's islam which
[2:28]is found in the book we mentioned that on a day of
[2:40]on a day in which his people were celebrating for some sort
[2:49]of reason um he was walking with his father and he heard
[2:55]someone call out from a monastery i testify that there is no
[2:59]god other than allah that isa is the spirit of allah meaning
[3:05]the special spirit created and chosen by allah and muhammad is allah's
[3:17]beloved when he heard he was attracted to him and as a
[3:37]result he would not enjoy his food or drink after that after
[3:44]that incident salman was thinking uh constantly about the prophet sallallahu alaihi
[3:50]such that he would not enjoy his meals he would not enjoy
[3:56]his drinks etc now the tradition mentioned that at a certain point
[4:03]his parents the parents of salman realized that he switched religions or
[4:10]to be more precise that he was not following their religion and
[4:15]so they chose to do what to place him in a well
[4:20]so that they may kind of put him under pressure and as
[4:27]a result of that pressure he may return to their religion or
[4:33]may admit that he believes in their religion and he stayed in
[4:40]the well for some time finally he supplicated asking allah to um
[4:47]relieve him from what he was going through to to to help
[4:53]him and pull him out of that predicament so a man came
[4:58]to him and he helped him out of the well then he
[5:01]was uh he went to a monastery and over there he found
[5:08]a monk he found a monk he served that monk for a
[5:18]few years and then finally it was time for the monk to
[5:23]leave this world so when that happened salman rahmatullah asked him he
[5:30]said who will take care of me after you the monk of
[5:35]course believed in what salman believed it so they both shared the
[5:39]same belief the monk was he believed in allah he believed that
[5:47]isa salam was a prophet of god he wasn't the son of
[5:50]god and he believed this is where we stopped as i remember
[5:59]uh let me just recheck the tradition yes this is approximately where
[6:13]we stopped so we'll continue from there i sent you the uh
[6:17]the hadith or part of the hadith on the chat section it
[6:21]says so when the monk was about to die he told salman
[6:29]i am about to die for allah will take care of me
[6:37]after you he said he told them i do not know anyone
[6:48]who has the same belief meaning anyone who has my beliefs except
[6:53]for a monk in antakya antakya is a city in turkey he
[7:24]says when he died i washed his body i shrouded it and
[7:28]i buried him and then i took the tablet then i went
[7:37]to where to antakia so he traveled he traveled all for the
[7:43]sake of what for the sake of finding rasulallah the embodiment of
[7:50]truth and also preserving his faith he says when when he reached
[7:59]antarctica he he reached the monastery and then he began saying i
[8:12]testify that there is no god other than allah that isa is
[8:17]allah spirit which we explained previously we explained the meaning of this
[8:22]term previously at that point the monk who was inside the monastery
[8:39]looked at me from above so he was at a specific point
[8:44]that was higher than where salman was standing he told them are
[8:55]you rosba we said is the name of salman in persian that
[9:00]was his initial name here what do you understand you understand that
[9:04]the the monk was waiting was awaiting salman somehow he knew that
[9:12]he was going to meet this person he was going to meet
[9:17]salman so he was waiting for him i said yes for qala
[9:26]he told me come up so i went up and i went
[9:32]to him and i served him for two complete years he says
[9:40]he was about to die he told me i am about to
[9:44]die the same story happens here the same exact story thus i
[9:55]said at that point who will take care of me after you
[10:02]it he told him i do not know anyone who holds the
[10:13]same beliefs who holds the same beliefs meaning he believes in what
[10:18]i believe in except for a monk in escandaria which is alexandria
[10:25]a city in egypt and give him this tablet so again the
[10:45]monk that was on the brink of death gives a tablet to
[10:49]to salman so he excuse me so we can give it to
[10:53]the next monk when he passed away i washed him shrouded him
[11:04]and buried him and i took the tablet and i went to
[11:11]the monastery so here salman crosses thousands of kilometers again in search
[11:21]of rasulallah in order to preserve his faith this is how salman
[11:27]teaches us to sacrifice for our faith to sacrifice and to exert
[11:37]all effort in searching for the truth and maintaining our belief in
[11:42]the truth when he got to the monastery he says i began
[11:51]saying i testified that there is no god other than allah and
[11:55]that is allah spirit and that muhammad is allah's beloved here the
[12:01]monk in the monastery looked at me from above and he told
[12:08]me antaros or you rosba so i said yes he said come
[12:15]up so i went up i went to him and i served
[12:19]him for two complete years when he was about to die he
[12:31]said the same thing when the monk was about to die he
[12:38]told salman i am about to die for i told him who
[12:42]will take care of me after you this is what salman let
[12:48]me send you the um next segment from the tradition uh my
[13:12]son were talking about salman al-muhammad salman al-pharisi and the journey he
[13:18]went through in order to find the prophet what did the monks
[13:27]say this time surprisingly he told him i do not know anyone
[13:37]who holds the same belief who believes in what i believe in
[13:45]so he didn't tell him that there is a monk somewhere else
[13:50]go to that monk he has the same belief no he told
[13:54]him i don't know anyone in this world who has the same
[13:57]belief here a question comes to mind and that is well there
[14:04]were people who had the same belief at that time like like
[14:13]assad [Music] these pure people from vanu hashem or who were related
[14:24]to banu hashem they had such belief so how come he's saying
[14:35]the answer to this question is quite simple see he didn't say
[14:40]there is no one in this world who has my belief all
[14:45]he said is i don't know anyone who has my belief makes
[14:51]sense so him not knowing the presence of someone else who believes
[14:56]in the same beliefs doesn't mean that someone else does not exist
[15:00]also keep in mind that it seems he's not talking about the
[15:06]next proof of allah remember last week we said there's always the
[15:11]proof of god allah on earth the proof of allah is a
[15:18]human being who represents allah he's either a prophet or a successor
[15:23]of a prophet salawatullah obviously he's not talking about what he's not
[15:35]talking about the next proof of god or the proof of god
[15:42]who's living during his time because obviously that proof of god has
[15:46]the same belief the proofs of god do not hold contradicting beliefs
[15:52]they believe in the same thing they believe in the same god
[15:57]same prophets same successors they believe in the day of judgment etc
[16:02]but he tells him to follow it he says the prophet's birth
[16:33]is going to take place very soon very soon what's interesting here
[16:42]is that he refers to the prophet's grandfather as malik and we
[16:49]know the prophet's grandfather was called so why does he call muhammad
[16:58]possibly this is another title for abdullah or it could be a
[17:06]mistake done by the narrator not by the imam the imam is
[17:08]infallible rather by the narrator there was a mistake or by someone
[17:12]who wrote the tradition you know there was a typo possibly but
[17:18]again it could be a second title for abdul muttalib uh bear
[17:23]in mind before we continue that his name wasn't abdul muttalib that's
[17:30]his title it was a title given to him by people his
[17:35]name was why was he called abdul muttalib because his uncle al-muttalib
[17:44]his uncle al-muttalib took him with him to makkah when he took
[17:49]him with him to mecca people thought that was the slave of
[17:59]muttalib so they would call him what the slave of muttalib in
[18:03]reality his name was shaiba al-hamdu shallah means the white hair of
[18:12]praise that's the literal meaning of shaiba telham he was called shaibatal
[18:17]ham because when he was born he had one white hair on
[18:24]his head one white hair so he was given the name so
[18:33]here the monk tells salman that soon say when you meet him
[18:50]when you meet the prophet convey him my my salam and give
[18:56]him this tablet give him this tablet salman says when he passed
[19:12]away i washed his body i shrouded him i buried him and
[19:18]i took the tablet and left now salman was finally on his
[19:24]way to meet the prophet wasn't he on his way to meet
[19:30]him from the beginning yes he was but he had to go
[19:33]through what through several checkpoints before reaching rasulallah here we see a
[19:41]resemblance with what abu dhabi went through if you remember abu dhab
[19:44]had to go through also checkpoints before meeting the prophet sallallahu alaihi
[19:49]wasallam so this is uh this is a uh a point of
[19:55]resemblance between the two uh pertaining to the two stories the story
[20:00]of salman's islam and the story of abu dhabi's islamic was on
[20:20]he went on a journey he began a journey and he was
[20:25]on his way towards the prophet now he says he he met
[20:31]people and he wanted these people to be his companions during his
[20:35]travel so he told them he told them if you provide me
[20:44]with water and food i will provide you with service so in
[20:48]other words he's telling them how about we travel together and all
[20:54]serve you but you'll have to give me what food and water
[21:00]food and drinks he says when they wanted to eat they attacked
[21:17]a sheep a sheep and they began striking the sheep until they
[21:24]killed it realize they did not kill it by slaughtering it rather
[21:28]by doing what by striking it so they kept on striking the
[21:33]sheep until it died he says they used part of the the
[21:46]meat of the the sheep and turned it into kebab and they
[21:49]also you know um cooked other parts of the sheep and they
[21:55]were about to eat salman says i refrained from eating they told
[22:02]me he told them that i am a person who basically who
[22:14]worships allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala in a monastery i'm a monk and we
[22:21]monks we people who worship god in monasteries we don't eat meat
[22:26]we don't eat meat here there are two possibilities pertaining to what
[22:37]salman is saying either he's saying that the monks at that time
[22:42]weren't allowed to eat meat or it was better for them to
[22:51]refrain from eating meat hence he did not want to eat or
[22:53]the second possibility is when he says we don't eat meat he's
[22:59]not referring to all kinds of meat rather he's referring to unlawful
[23:02]kinds of meat maita is unlawful right even in islam now remember
[23:14]recall how they killed the sheep they didn't slaughter it they kept
[23:21]on straight striking it until they did what until it died according
[23:26]to our shariah to our set of laws uh such an animal
[23:33]will be haram you can't eat its meat so possibly salman had
[23:39]the same hukum during his time he had the same ruling in
[23:42]his what in his sharia in his set of laws the set
[23:46]of laws of esa so possibly when he says they don't eat
[23:51]meat he's talking about the the unlawful meat not every type of
[24:01]meat he says at that point they hit me and they were
[24:09]about to kill me yeah subhanallah the man didn't do anything he
[24:14]just refrained from eating meat and they were about to kill him
[24:27]one of them said or some of them said don't kill him
[24:31]wait wait give him some time don't kill him wait until uh
[24:37]we bring [Music] our beverage what's the beverage that they're talking about
[24:43]they're talking about wine as you will hear wait until we bring
[24:50]our beverage for you will see that he will not drink he
[24:53]will not drink what we drink when they brought that specific beverage
[25:00]they told him drink fakultu salman says you told them i am
[25:12]uh a man a monk who worships allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in
[25:19]a monastery and we monks we do not drink wine at that
[25:31]point it says they attacked me and they wanted to kill me
[25:36]from this segment when he says that they offered him wine and
[25:42]he said i don't drink wine we monks don't drink wine we
[25:46]we understand that when they offered him meat and he said that
[25:55]he does not eat meat it's very likely he was referring to
[25:58]what to unlawful meat not to every single type of meat do
[26:17]not do not kill me and don't hit excuse me do not
[26:21]hit me for i will consider myself to be a slave of
[26:33]yours so here we see that was kind of forced into slavery
[26:39]he's not a slave he wasn't a slave he's a free man
[26:43]yet he had to consider himself to be a slave for one
[26:48]of them for the sake of i considered myself to be a
[27:10]slave for one of those people one of the companions of salman
[27:14]that individual who became salman's owner took him and sold him to
[27:22]a jewish man for 300 silver coins so now salman is owned
[27:27]by who by the jewish man but realized salman is not a
[27:34]slave he was enslaved he's not a slave he's a free man
[27:44]muhammad the jewish man asked salman about his story what happened with
[27:55]him and so salman told him that i haven't committed any sin
[27:59]i did not commit any sin or any injustice the only sin
[28:05]i committed to deserve this treatment is that i loved muhammad and
[28:11]his successor which is not a sin obviously it's a virtue but
[28:16]people considered it to be what a sin unfortunately he said that's
[28:21]my only sin that i love muhammad and his successor realize how
[28:29]he loved amir al-mu'min here the jewish man said let me send
[28:48]you the next part of the hadith the jewish man unfortunately was
[29:12]was a ruthless man that jewish man specifically was ruthless he hated
[29:18]the prophet as you shall hear hence he said now why would
[29:39]he hate salman salman hasn't done anything to him because salman admitted
[29:43]that he loves rasulallah because this man hated the prophet sallallahu alaihi
[29:50]wasallam he began hating salman you might ask why would he hate
[29:59]rasulallah sallallahu alaihi wasallam unfortunately there were certain jews in the past
[30:08]who had such behavior they would unfortunately you know um take a
[30:17]stance against the prophets of god salawatu and would even get to
[30:21]the point where they would kill the prophets of god and quran
[30:26]speaks about it clearly for example they killed yahya they killed zakaria
[30:32]they wanted to kill isa and they even claimed that they killed
[30:37]isa salaam allah but allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala decreed to save isa hence
[30:44]he was saved he was lifted to the sky and someone else
[30:48]who resembled isa was crucified as for isa he was saved from
[30:54]crucifixion and from being killed but the attempt was there the attempt
[31:00]was there now we're not saying all the jews are like that
[31:03]no that's not the case some of the jews were very pious
[31:10]and very religious they were mu'minin and they are they are our
[31:14]brothers in in islam because they believed in the prophets of their
[31:19]time and or the successors peace be upon them and they also
[31:24]believed in so on the day of judgment such jews will be
[31:29]what will be in in heaven you call them jews but in
[31:32]reality they are the muslims of their time they are the muslims
[31:37]of their time so they are our brothers in faith again they
[31:40]believed in the prophets of their time and the successors and or
[31:44]the successors i am saddam and they were righteous but unfortunately there
[31:55]were other types of jews who weren't too religious in fact they
[32:00]would you know um attack the prophets and even kill them so
[32:09]this jewish man here he says he took me out of his
[32:32]house and i saw that there was a lot of sand in
[32:35]front of the door of his house in front of the entrance
[32:39]of his house falcao by allah if you do not move all
[33:02]of this sand from here from this place to another place i
[33:28]began working lifting the sand during the whole night i was working
[33:35]lifting the sand taking it from one place to another taking it
[33:44]from the the the entrance of the house to another place until
[33:48]i was exhausted when i was exhausted and i was unable to
[33:51]work anymore i lifted my arm or my hand towards the sky
[34:03]and i said my lord you instill the love of muhammad and
[34:09]his successor in my heart hence i ask you allah for the
[34:21]sake of rasulallah and his successor for their sake hasten my salvation
[34:30]and relieve me from what i am going through and the wind
[34:47]basically carried all of the sand they carried it from wherever it
[34:53]was it carried the sand to the other place the place where
[35:01]the jewish man wanted the sand to be he says that morning
[35:11]he saw the jewish man saw that all of the sand had
[35:17]been transported or transferred to the other place uh he told him
[35:32]salman you are what you are a magician but i did not
[35:37]know that you are a magician hence i will pull you out
[35:43]of our village lest you destroy our village so he became somewhat
[35:51]scared from salman it seems from the tradition that there was a
[35:55]lot of sand just too much sand to be transferred from point
[36:02]a to point b in one night by only one person so
[36:07]when he saw this when the when the jewish man saw that
[36:10]it actually happened he accused salman of magic or salamiyah here the
[36:29]jewish man took salman and he sold him to a lady who
[36:34]was from a particular tribe he says she was salmia or salamiyah
[36:40]that lady surprisingly loved salman she when she met him she loved
[36:49]him and she had immense love for salman khan so she tells
[37:10]him this gordon is yours this garden is yours meaning that you
[37:15]are allowed to make use of it in however way you want
[37:20]she tells him eat from the crops or the vegetables or the
[37:26]fruits of this garden and you can you can give uh crops
[37:37]or vegetables or fruits or other things that grow in the garden
[37:42]to whomever you like you can also use its crops or whatever
[37:48]grows in it and give it to people as charity the choice
[37:53]is yours so here we realize that went through a state of
[38:01]ease after all of that difficulty he went through what through a
[38:08]state of ease such is this world at the end of the
[38:14]day every difficulty has what has an end every difficulty will end
[38:21]sooner or later you go through states of ease then states of
[38:26]difficulty then states of ease then cease of difficulty and that's how
[38:29]the world works until one passes away he says i remained in
[38:44]that garden for quite some time for an amount of time however
[38:48]one day when i was in the garden i saw seven individuals
[38:57]coming forth [Music] surprisingly there was a cloud shading these seven individuals
[39:09]there was a cloud that was shading them so there was a
[39:13]cloud following the seven individuals and shading them i think by now
[39:22]you know who was amongst those seven individuals he said i told
[39:38]myself i swear by allah all of these people aren't prophets as
[39:47]in not everyone amongst them is a prophet however there is a
[39:51]prophet amongst them the seven people aren't all prophets but one of
[39:55]them is a prophet salman says they came forth and they kept
[40:05]on marching until they entered the garden while rama the cloud was
[40:15]following them this was one of rasulullah's miracles a cloud would shade
[40:20]him and would follow him he says when they entered i saw
[40:41]that rasulallah was amongst them imam ali was amongst them were also
[40:48]amongst them who was adopted son was also amongst them and his
[40:56]brother and hamza imam ali's uncle the prophet's uncle they were also
[41:02]amongst the seven people realize salman is saying this he's saying the
[41:12]story to who to imam ali if you remember after rasulallah so
[41:21]at that point possibly salman didn't recognize that this person in front
[41:28]of me is rasulullah but later on he will definitely have that
[41:31]certainty that this is the prophet and then they began eating from
[41:52]what they began grabbing are basically dates that that are um in
[42:03]in bad shape that have bad quality so dates with poor quality
[42:08]uh dates that are uh dry and uh that draw that uh
[42:17]draw become dry before they actually ripen before they ripen so they
[42:24]began grabbing these uh dates what rasulullah the dates that we just
[42:46]spoke about that have poor quality and do not spoil any parts
[42:53]of the garden because this garden belongs to certain people and you're
[42:59]not allowed to you know spoil other people's wealth correct so it
[43:04]says do not spoil any parts of the garden give me just
[43:13]one second sorry here a question might come to mind and that
[43:57]is the tradition says that they began eating the dates with poor
[44:04]quality but it doesn't mention that they took permission to eat those
[44:09]dates so isn't someone supposed to take permission you know before uh
[44:18]using other people's wealth or other people's money or eating from their
[44:26]food if that's the case why doesn't why doesn't the tradition mention
[44:30]that you know rasulullah and his companions took permission to do whatever
[44:36]they did number one we say yes when you want to use
[44:39]other people's money or wealth or you want to eat their food
[44:43]you need their permission you need their permission however the tradition here
[44:49]possibly omitted that part as in we have several possibilities number one
[44:56]it's possible that the tradition didn't mention that the prophet and his
[45:05]companions sought permission to eat those dates although they didn't so the
[45:10]first possibility is rasulallah and his companions ask permission to eat those
[45:15]dates with poor quality permission was given to them but it was
[45:23]not mentioned this issue was not mentioned in the narration this happens
[45:26]sometimes where certain parts of the incident are omitted that's one possibility
[45:32]the second possibility is since the gordon was for the lady who
[45:42]owned salman and she gave salman authority over that gordon so she
[45:47]gave him the authority to do whatever he wants with the garden
[45:50]and rasulallah knew that salman was completely pleased with you know with
[46:00]him and his companions eating for the the the dates uh he
[46:05]did not take permission as in he did not take explicit permission
[46:10]from salman because he already knows salman permits him to eat the
[46:17]dates makes sense salman permits him to eat the dates so again
[46:21]the second possibility is because the lady gave salman authority over the
[46:27]garden she told him you can do whatever you want with it
[46:29]you can you know give its crops to other people you can
[46:37]give certain crops as charity to people etc you can eat from
[46:40]it because she said that knew that salman was completely pleased with
[46:48]him and his companions eating from the garden they ate without taking
[46:53]permission an example that clarifies this issue is you for example entering
[46:59]upon your friend your friend's house and you know that your friend
[47:06]allows you to for example uh to eat from his house he
[47:12]even allows you to go to the fridge open the fridge and
[47:14]take whatever you want out of the fridge and eat it so
[47:17]you do that without asking him for permission in this case are
[47:23]you doing anything haram no you're not because you already have permission
[47:29]you know your friend allows you to do that so your knowledge
[47:33]of his permission your knowledge that he gives you that he does
[47:39]give you permission is enough for you to go and eat from
[47:42]the food without uh taking explicit permission from your friend that's the
[47:52]second possibility a third possibility is the third possibility is um these
[48:02]dates called hashafin nechel are dates of poor quality dates with poor
[48:08]quality possibly at that time people wouldn't use these dates they would
[48:14]just throw them away because as i told you they're dry dates
[48:17]that become dry before they ripen so possibly people would not use
[48:23]them they just take them off of the palm trees and throw
[48:28]them for example um so here rasulallah and his companions would be
[48:36]basically eating something that people are going to throw in all cases
[48:43]people won't make use of these uh of of these dates hence
[48:50]there's already permission given to the prophet and to his companions to
[48:56]eat those dates there's what implicit permission if anything people might thank
[49:07]the prophet and his companions that they actually took these dates off
[49:11]uh the palm trees or out of the garden in short in
[49:23]short we know rasulullah is infallible and wouldn't do anything unlawful or
[49:30]improper he wouldn't do anything unlawful or improper hence whatever he does
[49:37]is what whatever he's he does is correct whatever he does uh
[49:46]corresponds perfectly or goes hand in hand perfectly with allah's laws in
[49:54]fact he is the musharrah meaning meaning he is the one who
[50:00]teaches us the laws of god subhana we learn the laws of
[50:04]god through what through his words and through his actions and through
[50:08]what he approves of so we are certain that the prophet did
[50:19]not do anything he was not supposed to do all right if
[50:32]that is clear we'll continue the tradition he says i entered upon
[50:51]my mistress meaning the lady who owned him and i told her
[50:55]my mistress um grant me a tray of humid dates are basically
[51:03]humid dates that are soft focaled she told me you can have
[51:10]six trees not just one tree six trays of humid dates he
[51:21]says so i came and i held a tray that had uh
[51:26]humid dates back i said to myself if there is a prophet
[51:45]amongst them that prophet will not will not consume any food that
[51:53]is given to him as a form of charity he will not
[52:03]make use of any money that is given to him as a
[52:06]form of charity however if food is given to him as a
[52:13]gift he'll consume it if money is given to him as a
[52:16]gift hadiya he'll take it and and such was rasulallah rasulullah wouldn't
[52:23]accept sadaqah he would not accept sadaqah because sadaqah meaning was unlawful
[52:30]on the prophet and banu hashem it's unlawful for a hashemite to
[52:37]use the zakat of a non-hashemite what we call but the prophet
[52:50]would accept what he would accept gifts if you give him a
[52:52]gift he'll accept it is there a difference yes there is there's
[52:58]a big difference between a gift and between zakat next week inshaallah
[53:05]if we're still alive we'll continue with this beautiful tradition we're almost
[53:08]finished with the tradition of salman once we finish it inshaallah we'll
[53:12]continue where we left off with the biography of rasulallah foreign
