[0:00]for the hastening of the reappearance of the master the Savior the
[0:06]Avenger the holder of these recite aloud my dear brothers and sisters
[0:33]what an incredible Priceless honor it is to once again be invited
[0:42]to the Gatherings that mourn AB abdah Hussein what a privilege we've
[0:52]been granted by the Imam of the time to share in his
[0:56]grief and his lamentation over the Marty of his grandfather abdah it's
[1:07]an honor that cannot be equated with any other it cannot be
[1:13]sold it cannot be purchased it is something that is given as
[1:21]a blessing from the Imam of the time to be allowed once
[1:27]again to commemorate the greatest tragedy of all you must have heard
[1:33]that the companions of Imam Al Hussein on the day of Ash
[1:37]as well as the eve of the day of ashur they spoke
[1:45]to their master and they reaffirm their pledge of allegiance to him
[1:51]one of those companions was the statement that he makes is appropriate
[1:59]for a night like this and it sets the mindset that we
[2:09]are required to possess as we begin our journey towards boarding the
[2:15]Ark of Salvation that is Hussein when the Imam told his companions
[2:27]this night has cast its dark upon you it's provided you with
[2:35]the perfect cover so use it as a means of Escape leave
[2:39]me this Army has come with one objective one goal in mind
[2:48]and that is to either capture or kill me once they do
[2:52]that they won't mind if you have escaped if you've left they
[2:59]won't come and track you down down they won't chase you they
[3:02]won't capture you they want nothing to do with you I am
[3:06]their primary objective so the companions each rise up and perhaps their
[3:15]intention was to provide Comfort to the trembling hearts of the women
[3:21]and the children maybe it was to reaffirm their pledge of allegiance
[3:25]to AB abdah but they spoke with imp impecable Clarity and lucidity
[3:35]said the following he said I swear in the name of [Music]
[3:57]Allah it is the greatest honor that Allah has bestowed upon us
[4:05]this isn't a duty this isn't an obligation this isn't a burden
[4:13]it's the greatest privilege that Allah has blessed blessed us with to
[4:19]do what that we get to fight in front of you and
[4:28]in defense of you then he adds this he says that our
[4:38]limbs would be torn that our bodies would be cut into pieces
[4:43]for your sake you're telling us to leave you so that we
[4:48]could save our own lives how could we abandon you how could
[4:52]we relinquish this great privilege of fighting for you and having our
[5:02]bodies torn into pieces for your sake and the reason we do
[5:05]thatd is so that the only thing we seek is that your
[5:15]grandfather would offer us his intercession on the day of judgment then
[5:20]he spoke about the enemy he said wo on to those who
[5:28]abandoned you in other words this isn't just just us cursing them
[5:33]he's saying imagine the loss imagine what they're abandoning when they abandon
[5:40]you the chance to be among those that Embraces on the day
[5:47]of judgment brothers and sisters this is how we should feel when
[5:54]you're about to step into the courtyard of ab abdah Hussein there's
[5:59]a short prayer that you're supposed to recite it's called permission to
[6:09]enter not everybody gets to walk into the most sacred land on
[6:15]Earth and in the entire universe you have to ask for permission
[6:20]you have to be granted this privilege and so you say oh
[6:35]Allah I am standing at the gates of one of the houses
[6:40]of your messenger may your blessings be bestowed upon him and his
[6:49]family then you say you have commanded us not to enter without
[6:57]the permission of it's an injunction right there in the Holy Quran
[7:12]oh you who believe do not enter the houses of the messenger
[7:17]except when you are being when you are granted permission then you
[7:24]say Allah I know oh Allah the sanctity of the one who
[7:44]dwells in this house of the messenger in his absence meaning after
[7:50]his martyrdom as much as I believe in his sanctity during his
[7:53]life in other words it makes no difference whether he's been killed
[7:57]or he's right there in front of me this is a sanctuary
[8:02]this is a place that is elevated and exalted by God as
[8:10]a House of the messenger then you say and the person who
[8:21]lives or dwells in the sanctuary he hears what I tell him
[8:33]he responds when I say and he sees where I stand he
[8:43]knows that I'm about to enter and then you say even though
[8:48]I cannot hear his voice I know that he responds when I
[8:53]speak to him when I address him this is a privilege brothers
[8:59]and sisters sisters and it's a privilege that we need to appreciate
[9:07]because there is no conceivable way I or anybody else can overemphasize
[9:14]or overestimate the value of these gatherings no way for us to
[9:23]exaggerate the importance of the Gatherings that are held in commemoration of
[9:27]ab Abdullah Al Hussein these maalis brothers and sisters are so critical
[9:33]so critical and I want you to think about the fact that
[9:40]we are living in the Golden Age of majalis if you consider
[9:49]our past when you learn about the challenges faced by Believers throughout
[9:56]the centuries that they had to Grapple with in order to uphold
[10:00]the name of ab Abdullah Al Hussein in order to cry for
[10:03]him in order to visit him when you learn about those challenges
[10:09]you realize just how privileged we really are tyrants have tried to
[10:16]prevent these gatherings from being held under different pretexts and justifications often
[10:21]times it was under security pretexts you're causing a rift in the
[10:28]community you're creating disunity you're challenging the government and the authority sometimes
[10:38]it was under different pretext more blatant more obvious more flagrant enmity
[10:48]towards the enmity towards AB abdah Hussein sometimes it was under the
[10:53]pretext of Health measures I mean we're only a few years past
[10:56]the global pandemic where the Gatherings for ab Abdullah Al Hussein were
[11:03]prevented under those pretexts and then the same officials that insisted on
[11:09]social distancing on the closure of the husse and mosques and even
[11:15]the shrines of the these officials are now being questioned at the
[11:22]US House of Representatives where they openly admit that those measures were
[11:26]not based on scientific evidence how dare those who prevented us from
[11:32]visiting the shrines of the in particular the shrine of IM Hussein
[11:37]and others under those pretext and now we learn that they were
[11:40]unscientific I'm not saying that there were absolutely no reasons why certain
[11:46]measures had to be taken and whatnot but I'm just saying that
[11:51]under different pretexts these gatherings were limited they were constrained and even
[11:55]many many times prevented but the Shia persisted isted the lovers of
[12:03]the their love for IM Hussein is a blessing granted to them
[12:10]by Allah subhanahu wa taala often times when you try to trace
[12:14]back why you have such a connection to the Imam you can't
[12:16]quiet put your finger on it you don't know was it my
[12:21]mother may Allah bless her was it my father may God bless
[12:25]him was it my environment was it the local molana the speakers
[12:28]this that you don't know and ultimately you have to concede that
[12:33]it was God himself who led your path towards the Ark of
[12:47]Salvation there is a flame in the heart of every believer that
[12:54]represents that embodies that epitomizes the tragedy of abusin this heat that
[13:04]will never dissipate it will never be extinguished in other words God
[13:08]gave this to you Allah Allah put that flame in our Hearts
[13:31]why did I even deserve it all these questions are irrelevant right
[13:40]now it's about thanking Allah and showing gratitude and appreciation for this
[13:43]infinitely precious gift that he has given us once again this is
[13:55]the Golden Age of majalis it's the Golden Age of Zara it's
[13:58]the Golden Age age of commemoration look at the past take lessons
[14:05]from our history when the Gatherings for abdah Hussein were banned Grand
[14:13]Abdul the founder of the Islamic seminary in the holy city of
[14:18]K died some have said because of the grief that he experienced
[14:26]at the fact that the oppressive Tyrant of his Dayan prevented these
[14:32]gatherings from being held he did two things committed two egregious acts
[14:39]where he challenged God number one preventing women from wearing hijab the
[14:45]hijab was banned so many women had to spend years in their
[14:51]homes because they weren't allowed to wear the hijab outside number one
[14:55]number two he prevented these majalis he banned them outright prohibition ABD
[15:03]Kim was in deep sorrow over this to the point where he
[15:10]got sick some of his students and people within his Circle they
[15:17]realized the impact this was having on the health of the Sheikh
[15:24]so somebody went up to him and he said to him you're
[15:27]taking this way too seriously at the end of the day gathering
[15:33]around each other for the commemoration of ab abdah Hussein is a
[15:37]recommended act it's not even W and so this King he's tyrannical
[15:45]he's oppressive he's despotic but it's not like he's committed a grievous
[15:52]act he's prevented a recommended and most act from being practiced they
[15:58]say shikh Abdul Karim shook his head he said yes it's a
[16:01]recommended act but from this one recommended act a thousand obligatory acts
[16:07]are born how many of you have studied in the Islamic Seminary
[16:13]to get to where you are now in terms of your nosis
[16:18]in terms of your knowledge of your faith and the fundamentals of
[16:21]your religion how many how many of you have attended classes how
[16:26]many of you have taken lessons from your local scholar most people
[16:33]don't get to do that so how did you achieve what you've
[16:39]done how do you have the knowledge that you have about your
[16:41]faith it is thanks to these malalis thanks to the sacred institution
[16:47]called the member of ab abdah Hussein isn't that the case we
[16:54]can't overestimate the significance of these gatherings and Hussein is a lantern
[17:07]of guidance he's an Ark of Salvation how many people have found
[17:11]the path toward Allah thanks to these gatherings how many people have
[17:16]converted to the religion of Islam thanks to these gatherings how many
[17:21]people have embraced the faith of thanks to these gatherings how many
[17:30]Sinners abandon Abed their immoral ways thanks to these gatherings forget about
[17:35]the fact that it was the Gatherings of ab Abdullah Hussein that
[17:39]preserved their identity forget about the fact that it was the Gatherings
[17:44]of ab abdah Hussein that allowed us to survive as an entity
[17:47]forget all those bigger existential questions on a personal individual and visceral
[17:55]level you all feel it because you've all experienced it or you
[18:02]know someone who's experienced it once again this is the Golden Age
[18:08]and a smart person is one who seizes the moment who not
[18:15]only attends these gatherings but does so with the purest of intentions
[18:19]does so by following all the etiquette of attending the Gatherings of
[18:23]ab abdah Hussein that they would only attend these majalis with w
[18:30]and Purity that when they come here they purify their intentions they
[18:34]recite the Z of abdah Hussein they come here with respect and
[18:40]honor that they try not to laugh during the 10 nights of
[18:47]muharam the Hadith says that any given day when the mere name
[18:53]of Imam Hussein was mentioned in the presence of IM the IM
[18:57]would not be seen smiling for the rest of the day just
[19:02]the name not the tragedy not the M the mere name of
[19:11]Imam Hussein would cause Imam sad to be reminded of just what
[19:14]happened to his grandfather ab abdah and I'll allude to that towards
[19:19]the end look at our history a he was a scholar whose
[19:35]father was in the holy city of Naf he studied there then
[19:38]they moved to K and he passed away in the holy city
[19:47]of K he tells this story he says that under when the
[19:51]majalis were banned one night I received some guests perhaps from another
[19:59]city they all came to looking for a Magus to attend imagine
[20:03]he says it was the eve of as malalis were prohibited people
[20:10]couldn't go anywhere and so he says my guests told me is
[20:14]there a Magus maybe there's like a secret Gathering somewhere we could
[20:18]go and so he said I told them they're all banned and
[20:24]I don't know of any place where people could gather and Comm
[20:28]memorate AB abdah Hussein but let's go out let's go and see
[20:34]if we can find someplace he says so we went out and
[20:37]there was a m where there was the sound of eulogies coming
[20:47]from the first floor he says so I realized that there were
[20:52]a few people who had gathered around to commemorate AB Abdullah and
[20:55]recite his eulogies so he says we looked around there was no
[21:03]uh police officers no one uh present in that Alleyway so we
[21:10]went in to the first floor and we noticed there was a
[21:16]group of people sitting around again this is about 70 years ago
[21:21]we're not talking you know third fourth Century after Hijra he says
[21:27]these people were sitting around and there was a casket in the
[21:35]middle a coffin and it was sealed and closed they were sitting
[21:40]around the casket reciting M he says I quickly realized that there
[21:45]was this was just something they had set up in case the
[21:54]security apparatus stormed the Gathering if they came to arrest them they
[21:58]would say that we have somebody who's died and we're commemorating him
[22:02]so he says we sat there me and my guest and we
[22:06]started crying and crying and crying he said about half an hour
[22:11]later someone perhaps had informed the security forces about this Gathering and
[22:20]so somebody came he said that person I knew him he was
[22:26]an agent of the government and his job was to ensure that
[22:30]every everybody tolded the line and did not gather for IM Hussein
[22:34]he said he came in and he became angry and he said
[22:38]what's happening what are you doing he said so I went up
[22:40]to him I said to him listen this is a group a
[22:43]caravan that have come from Isfahan and they have someone with them
[22:48]who's just died as you can see this is the coffin right
[22:52]there and his name is Hussein he mentioned IM Hussein's name but
[23:00]in a way so as not to alert him and he wasn't
[23:04]lying he said his name is say Hussein and he's from carala
[23:08]they're crying for him let them mourn he's their friend he was
[23:15]someone they loved and respected he said so he left us and
[23:18]we stayed back and commemorated this is what people had to go
[23:23]through there's someone I know in the holy city of nef a
[23:29]woman she is originally from a place called chayes it's right at
[23:35]the southern tip of Iraq near the marshes it's part of the
[23:38]marshes in fact she tells this story she says that when Sadam
[23:44]may Allah raise him with his master yazid mua when he prevented
[23:52]the walk to the holy city of carala and he began arresting
[23:59]people he sentenced people to 5 10 years of imprisonment simply for
[24:03]walking just trying to reach carala and visiting Imam Hussein he said
[24:08]when Saddam did that and there was a big Crackdown no one
[24:13]was allowed to go people began to use different tricks right one
[24:18]of them she explains how they did it she says that the
[24:22]men in our family especially her father and remember these are tribal
[24:28]people and so to them a woman is not to go outside
[24:34]and engage with men or get into altercations God forbid if there
[24:43]is any possibility that their women would be subjected to any kind
[24:48]of danger or exposed in any way it's over their de dead
[24:52]bodies and yet she would say that my father told us look
[24:58]eyes are on us and we're not allowed to go but the
[25:03]women they'll probably give them a pass so if we're not able
[25:08]to go to carala we want you to go to carala we
[25:09]want you to go so that the road to carala does not
[25:17]get empty that Imam Hussein has visitors that there are women who
[25:26]mourn for the sake of consoling f z and so I want
[25:28]you to go and so they would sit in these carriages she
[25:32]said they would put us in the back of a carriage and
[25:36]they would say off you go it's a long journey it takes
[25:40]a few days and they would tell us that if you ever
[25:42]came across any security Personnel that you should come up with some
[25:49]excuse or if worse comes to worse come off of the carriage
[25:51]and push it and say that this Carriage is broken so that
[25:56]you could keep walking towards AB abdah Hussein this is what people
[26:02]had to go through in order to uphold the memory of IM
[26:06]Hussein to keep this flame alive in their hearts the flame is
[26:12]forever alive flame is being kept Alive by the tears of angels
[26:17]but in our hearts in our Collective Minds in our souls for
[26:25]this name to be seared right into them people had to struggle
[26:30]this is our past as for the future think about this brothers
[26:38]and sisters I hope we don't get to see a day when
[26:39]you remember what I'm about to tell you but the sad reality
[26:44]is that it's very likely to happen as for the future it
[26:48]is dystopian if you read any of those dystopian novels Brave New
[26:55]World by oldest Huxley 1984 Fahrenheit 45 1 all of these novels
[27:01]that talk about a scary horrific dystopian future you'll see that much
[27:11]of what they talked about in the 20th century has actually materialized
[27:16]many of the things that that they talk about addiction on a
[27:20]global scale drugs being proliferated everywhere the existence of weapons of M
[27:28]destruction who are at the whims of clowns and charlatans just a
[27:36]few codes away from complete Global Annihilation and now with the rise
[27:43]of the far right across the globe total lunatics being in charge
[27:47]of the law and of security and of governments you think this
[27:53]is unlikely not anymore maybe 20 30 years ago people would think
[27:56]this is fiction it's not fiction anymore this is narrative non-fiction and
[28:02]so in the words of one of my friends he's like I
[28:06]don't want to take my chances living in the future if they
[28:08]asked me when and at what phase and at what stage in
[28:12]history I would like to be alive it's right now this is
[28:18]the Golden Age so-called Muslim countries that are friendly to the Shia
[28:24]historically speaking just yesterday and the day before before they took down
[28:30]all the banners all the flags all the black cloths they took
[28:36]them all out they said it's illegal the only flag you're supposed
[28:39]to you're allowed to carry is the national flag of the country
[28:44]you're in you can hold a wedding if you want you can
[28:46]have a marquee outside if you want you could do whatever you
[28:51]like but when it comes to IM Hussein suddenly we have to
[28:56]implement the law look at what's happening in in European countries so-called
[29:03]bastions of democracy and freedom and liberty where a law is passed
[29:12]imagine this in these countries you're allowed to give your inheritance to
[29:15]your pet snake if you want but if you're a Muslim suddenly
[29:20]you're not allowed to distribute your estate as per the instructions of
[29:25]the Quran is illegal if you want to give your male children
[29:34]twice the share of your female children suddenly the law says that's
[29:39]not allowed but I can dispose of my wealth whichever way I
[29:44]want according to the law not if you're a Muslim suddenly there
[29:49]has to be gender equality I want to homeschool my kids no
[29:53]you're not allowed to the government has to approve any homeschooling program
[29:59]why and that's in these so-called democracies suddenly have these farri fascist
[30:06]groups coming to power you think it's going to get better this
[30:11]is our golden age let's seize the moment let's take every Advantage
[30:17]we can possibly take if we wish to affect meaningful change in
[30:24]our lives by anchoring our boat to the Ark of Salvation this
[30:29]is the time to do it do not procrastinate don't put it
[30:33]off don't say that I'll do it in 2 years or 5
[30:37]years when I go to Hajj when I go to Zar you'll
[30:41]never know how long this window will stay open we don't know
[30:46]we saw the pandemic there could be a war there could God
[30:51]knows God knows and if history is a lesson for us to
[30:57]learn from the window will not remain open for too long I
[31:00]talked about this two years ago when I was here and I
[31:03]will keep saying it because you never know so these majalis are
[31:14]incredibly important however you also have people who try to undermine these
[31:22]gatherings by casting Little Seeds of doubt I'm not even talking about
[31:31]about our enemies who constantly try to downplay the significance of ashur
[31:36]why is so important we had get killed while in the state
[31:45]of reciting the Quran mashallah we've had other people deprived of water
[31:51]constant nagging doubts trying to downplay trying to water down and trying
[32:00]to undermine the Gatherings of ab Abdullah Al Hussein but those are
[32:04]enemies those are not people that you could really reason with they'll
[32:07]have somebody else to deal with them IM Al Hussein himself will
[32:10]deal with them the issue is when it comes from within the
[32:16]community and even those I think fall into two categories you have
[32:23]people who have nefarious objectives people who use the facade of allegiance
[32:33]to the and of being a Shia they Dawn the Garb of
[32:39]being one of the followers of Imam Hussein and they have nefarious
[32:42]objectives they're trying to cast these doubts so as to uh once
[32:48]again water down the commemoration somehow make it less significant in our
[32:56]lives once again with these kinds of people I will not engage
[33:02]in any dialogue because it's a waste of my breath these are
[33:06]people who have a disease in their hearts Allah says they have
[33:15]a disease in their hearts so Allah intensifies their disease Allah makes
[33:21]them sicker Imam says that disease is the disease of Doubt which
[33:27]is why the IM he [Music] says he says doubt is something
[33:41]that extinguishes the light of the heart if you have any doubts
[33:49]dismiss them or seek answers to alleviate them go to qualified Scholars
[33:55]do proper supervised research if you have any doubt doubts don't let
[34:02]those doubts linger don't allow them to Fester don't give them the
[34:07]chance to spread like a viral infection seek help as you would
[34:10]with any sickness it's a it's a sickness it's a disease as
[34:17]the Quran says and so it's used by shatan specifically for this
[34:25]purpose and specifically when it comes to IM Hussein I'll share one
[34:31]incredible piece of evidence exhibit a im Z mentions a Hadith in
[34:38]which he quotes muhamed the Imam said says that the holy messenger
[35:00]of God told us about the events that will unfold on the
[35:05]day of ashur you all know that the events of ashur for
[35:12]the most part were foretold not just by not just by previous
[35:21]prophets and Messengers but by God himself Allah subhanahu Wa ta'ala Would
[35:26]Tell jbra he would tell Adam he would tell other prophets that's
[35:32]another subject for another day he would tell them about what's going
[35:35]to happen in this ultimate show of sacrifice that Allah decided to
[35:42]make Imam Hussein is God's sacrifice he is so these were foretold
[35:54]at least the broader outline was already told and pass down from
[36:01]generation to generation IM says that told us about this then he
[36:06]said the following the Hadith is found in he says that when
[36:14]im Hussein is killed Satan will come with his demons and his
[36:21]cronies they will fly and hover above the horrific scenes of The
[36:31]Plains of carala as they rejoice and celebrate Satan will tell his
[36:36]demons that we have finally Avenged from the lineage of Adam what
[36:49]we wanted we finally taken from them the most precious thing we
[36:52]could take and we have finally LED every sing single child of
[36:58]Adam astray except those who hold tight to this small band of
[37:07]people meaning the household of rol Shan himself understands his limitations he
[37:16]acknowledges his weaknesses and so he says that everyone will be led
[37:23]astray now that we've managed to get Imam Hussein killed along with
[37:28]with his children infants Brothers now that we've managed to do this
[37:36]we've managed to get humans to do this then we've done the
[37:38]best thing we could do and so everyone will be led astray
[37:41]except the ones who hold on to the small band then he
[37:47]gives instructions to his demons listen carefully he says now you need
[38:00]to make you need to exert your best efforts in doing what
[38:11]your number one priority now should be to make people develop doubts
[38:19]in this family and to make people turn into enemies of this
[38:28]family he said if you do that you're all set cast seeds
[38:36]of Doubt right because you cannot undo a thought as one famous
[38:43]famous atheist advised his friends he said listen you don't have to
[38:47]work too hard simply ask questions you know how sometimes this is
[38:55]how Impostors and charlatans this is how they influence Their audience they
[39:00]they'll tell you things like I'm only asking questions here I'm not
[39:06]asserting anything I'm not you know making a point and ascribing it
[39:10]to myself I'm simply asking a question but that question turns into
[39:14]the seed of a doubt and that infection then grows until it
[39:20]takes over the entire person's mind and they're done they're done there's
[39:27]no turning back so you have those with nefarious intentions if they
[39:33]are good people deep down may Allah guide them and if not
[39:40]and if they cause others to deviate due to their nefarious intentions
[39:44]and actions then may Allah bring about their destruction sooner rather than
[39:50]later but then you have the general public you have young brothers
[39:54]and sisters you have people who don't know any better they haven't
[39:58]been educated they haven't sought answers to their questions and so if
[40:03]they ask us what's the point why are these gatherings so important
[40:12]haven't there been tragedies on a much grander scale before why do
[40:16]we gather around to commemorate Imam Hussein year after year after year
[40:21]we've had two world wars 70 million people got killed we've had
[40:28]massacres we have a massacre unfolding right before our two eyes right
[40:34]now as we speak right all of these tragedies why this why
[40:39]IM Hussein why carala why as if this question is ever presented
[40:48]to us the answer to people who are well-meaning and well intentioned
[40:54]and who wish to know the truth our answer is this my
[40:58]dear brothers and sister may Allah bless you thank you for asking
[41:03]that's a beautiful and important question our response is number one Islam
[41:11]as a religion pay close attention Islam is a very complex system
[41:18]and it's made up of multiple layers in oneith says that J
[41:25]told me that the example of Islam is like a tree where
[41:31]at its base at its core at its roots you have faith
[41:35]you have belief you have the fundamental tenants of the religion then
[41:41]you have branches and the branches represent Salat acts of worship then
[41:47]you have leaves and the leaves represent refraining from acts of sin
[41:52]fasting and the fruit is being mindful of Allah subhanahu wa tala
[41:58]right then the prophet says or JRA says to the holy prophet
[42:03]he says so a tree is not complete and is deficient and
[42:10]flawed if it doesn't bear fruit in other words if you find
[42:14]yourself unable to refrain from acts of sin it means there's something
[42:18]wrong with the composition of this tree either it's not being watered
[42:23]the same Hadith says that the water the nourishment that reaches the
[42:29]tree is it is giving alms it is giving charity it is
[42:32]giving HS if you don't do that you won't be able to
[42:36]water the tree the tree is going to go dry without this
[42:40]so if you don't do that then it's not going to Bear
[42:42]fruits if you don't uphold prayer it means this tree is just
[42:48]a trunk it doesn't have any branches once again there's a problem
[42:52]maybe the problem is at the very roots of the tree the
[42:57]point I'm making is this that Islam is a multifaceted multi-layered complex
[43:02]web of teachings instructions rituals and all manner of different things it's
[43:11]a whole system of Life part of this religion is what we
[43:19]call the fundamentals what are the fundamentals without a doubt the principal
[43:31]tenants of the faith the beliefs that you're supposed to hold are
[43:36]at the Bedrock then you have actions that are considered fundamental for
[43:41]instance today I'm really tired I got back from work I've been
[43:48]up since early morning and I just couldn't be bothered to get
[43:51]up my back hurts my knee hurts my legs hurt it's been
[43:56]a long day at work it's been hard work can I miss
[43:59]Salah our response to that is no my dear brothers and sisters
[44:07]you can't miss Salah if you're unable to stand truly unable to
[44:11]get up you could pray Sal sitting down like sometimes you come
[44:19]across elderly people may Allah bless them these are pioneers of the
[44:23]community these are the ones who pass down the love and remembrance
[44:26]of ab abdah Hussein to us they're worthy of respect and honor
[44:29]sometimes you see them in the Masjid sitting in a chair and
[44:35]praying why because he'll say that my back hurts too much the
[44:38]doctors have instructed me not to stand upright so what do I
[44:43]do we say sit down bring up the TBA up to your
[44:45]forehead as opposed to you bowing down but prayer must be upheld
[44:50]it must be fulfilled the Hadith says there's almost no circumstance no
[45:03]situation no scenario where Salah could be abandoned it might have to
[45:10]be performed in a different way but it has to be performed
[45:13]if somebody's drowning we have such a thing in our the prayer
[45:20]performed by someone who's about to drown God forbid you ever find
[45:23]yourself in that situation you're Shipwrecked and you only have a few
[45:27]hours and you can't pray while you're in the sea can you
[45:33]the answer is yes you can you do it through IMA through
[45:39]facial gestures if you're in hospital you've just been through a difficult
[45:43]operation you come out of your uh coma for example and we've
[45:50]had people asking this question from our Scholars what do I do
[45:54]what about my mother my father look at them they can't get
[45:58]up they use their eyelids they recite what's supposed to be recited
[46:02]and they use their eyelids and their hands or if they can
[46:06]lift their head just a little bit they use those gestures and
[46:11]those subtle movements to represent and so Salah is a fundamental part
[46:15]of our religion no matter what happens we're not allowed to abandon
[46:20]it to relinquish it now are fun fundamental parts of our religion
[46:30]fundamental someone might say I am in hospital I'm too sick I
[46:40]have a chest infection a pneumonia am I also supposed to commemorate
[46:46]the tragedy of Imam Al Hussein we say may Allah give you
[46:51]healing may you recover may you get well soon but you probably
[46:59]understand better than most of us how it feels when somebody is
[47:06]sitting on your chest as AB abdah Hussein faced on the day
[47:11]of Ash the fact that your lungs are constrained you could empathize
[47:19]with Imam Hussein better than me so yeah commemorate abdah Hussein someone's
[47:26]just come out of surgery you know with a lot of surgeries
[47:29]when they put you under a general anesthetic when you come out
[47:35]they'll tell you you're not allowed to drink any water some of
[47:39]you might have seen patients in a hospital elderly people they tell
[47:44]them you're not allowed to drink any water not even a drop
[47:48]no not even a drop you understand better than anyone else what
[47:52]it means that IM Hussein was thirsty on the day of as
[47:55]yeah even you should commemorate you can commemorate and do so much
[47:59]better than the rest of us so these are parts of our
[48:09]fundamental layers of religion says to he says to him if you
[48:21]wish to be raised with us on the day of judgment for
[48:30]you not just to enter Paradise but to be raised with us
[48:33]at the same level of the family of then then celebrate our
[48:47]joy and the times of happiness that the B have had and
[48:53]commemorate our sadness and tragedy in other words align yourself when it
[49:00]comes to your heart when it comes to your emotions when it
[49:06]comes to your outpour of Tears align those with us you'll be
[49:10]raised with us allahar what is this reward what is this compens
[49:21]compensation that Allah gives to the ones who cling on to the
[49:25]B and align their emotions with with them it's incredible brothers and
[49:30]sisters IM says to he says to him by God I love
[49:43]those Gatherings of yours I love them then he said to him
[49:46]revive our cause may Allah bless those who are gathered here tonight
[49:57]may Allah bless those who are helping as volunteers to put this
[50:02]program together in every Gathering where ABA Abdullah Hussein is honored where
[50:08]his tragedy is recited where his religion is upheld may Allah bless
[50:14]anyone who contributes to those it's the words of IM by the
[50:22]way Imam sad also says he says oh Allah bless those eyes
[50:33]that tear up for us the Dua of the proof of Allah
[50:42]for anyone who cries even a drop of tear the size of
[50:44]the wing of a fly as per one Hadith oh Allah bless
[50:50]those eyes I swear to God brothers and sisters when we cry
[50:54]in these malalis we're pure purifying our eyes we're purifying our ears
[51:03]when we beat our chest we're purifying our hearts when we attend
[51:08]these gatherings we purify our very existence that should be the aim
[51:12]that should be the intention to saydah purify me cleanse me make
[51:20]me among the people that you call on the day of judgment
[51:24]and give the title of husseini to Purify Me and cleanse me
[51:35]of my wrongful actions my sins my transgressions I have too much
[51:43]baggage resting on my shoulders I've committed too many sins over the
[51:49]last year since the last time I cried for youah I know
[51:55]I know I'm sinful as John said to AB abdah on the
[51:58]day of he said my smell is unpleasant he was an ironsmith
[52:15]he used to fix the swords for Imam Hussein and his companions
[52:19]so he's always dealing with metals and oils and whatnot he said
[52:23]I smell bad my lineage is not a noble one my skin
[52:30]is black although he's not talking about his complexion in Arabic they
[52:37]say meaning that I'm a sinful man I'm not a noble person
[52:47]breathe onto me the fragrance of paradise they say that when Banu
[52:56]Assad came and they were gathering The Companions and the family of
[53:01]Imam Hussein for burial they couldn't find John the black slave it
[53:06]is said that the means with which they found his body in
[53:09]the end was because of the beautiful fragrance that the body emitted
[53:16]because other thanb IM Hussein placed his blessed cheek on no other
[53:24]cheek except John the SL that is the transformative power of ab
[53:31]abdah brothers and sisters when you come here you are ennobled you
[53:38]are honored you are cleansed the objective we should all seek is
[53:42]this many of the companions of IM Hussein on the day of
[53:48]Ash when they went into battle and they fell to the ground
[53:50]they got injured and they were about to die I'm sure you've
[53:56]heard this before Hamid abdah and others would look up at AB
[54:00]abdah and they would saydah are you pleased with me a fate
[54:07]have I been loyal to you have I fulfilled my pledge with
[54:13]you our aim should be over the next 10 nights that at
[54:17]the end we get to look in the direction of carala and
[54:23]we say have you been pleased with me did I make you
[54:28]proud did I fulfill your honor and my pledge to youah did
[54:38]I make pleased with me did I do something so that you
[54:43]would even look at me and take a glance in my direction
[54:48]are you pleased with me as a person are you pleased with
[54:54]me as a husband or wife as a father or mother are
[54:57]you pleased with me as a member of the community that bears
[55:02]your name are you pleased with me being called one of your
[55:06]are you pleased with me saying are you pleased abdah and hopefully
[55:18]the Imam would respond to us the way he did to abdah
[55:22]abdah what did he say to him he said to him I'm
[55:28]pleased with you you will proceed me to paradise IM said to
[55:40]one of his Representatives imagine if the Imam of our time sees
[55:46]us like this is it possible the answer is yes yes it's
[55:50]possible I know I'm bad I know I'm not worthy I know
[55:55]I don't deserve it I know I'm nowhere near being accepted into
[56:02]the Embrace of ab abdah Hussein or the ranks of his companions
[56:06]or anywhere close to that but he can do it just like
[56:13]he did it with John and Asam the Turkish slave just like
[56:16]he did it with committed the gravest crime he intercepted the path
[56:23]of IM Hussein he blocked Imam Hussein from proceeding towards his destination
[56:29]he instilled fear in the hearts of the women and children of
[56:35]ab abdah but Imam Hussein has the capacity to do it Imam
[56:39]Hussein is like a waterfall all we have to do is put
[56:46]our cup underneath the waterfall that's it all you have to do
[56:50]is that extend your hand bow your head down get off your
[56:52]high horse the way did all you have to do is that
[57:01]obviously that cup needs to be purified that hand needs to offer
[57:06]a pledge of allegiance to the Imam of the time but once
[57:09]you do that the cup will be filled instantaneously you will get
[57:15]everything you ever wished for and above all you will get closer
[57:21]to Imam Hussein Imam Hussein has the capacity to do that it's
[57:28]possible you have to believe it and you have to understand it
[57:31]so that you could make the journey towards him inshallah now it's
[57:40]the first night we don't want to take too long and you're
[57:46]always conflicted that on the first night which direction do you take
[57:51]where do you [Music] go but perhaps as I said earlier we
[57:58]should go to the tragedies that were slightly opened by the themselves
[58:07]we have many sources that speak about the events of as the
[58:16]most important of those are the actual words of the imams IM
[58:24]says in by this preeminent legendary scholar the teacher of the teacher
[58:36]of one of the earliest sources of Hadith The Scholar who was
[58:45]so close to the time of the minor occultation of the Imam
[58:51]he says in this book quotes IM as saying to IM Hussein
[59:01]the following he says IM the sixth IM says I wish I
[59:21]were there on the day of Aur so that my blood would
[59:27]be shed before you so that I would Shield you with my
[59:32]body and my soul then the Imam gives us glimpses of the
[59:38]tragedy of Imam Hussein he [Music] says may Allah curse the ones
[59:49]who stabbed you may Allah curse the ones who struck you may
[60:04]Allah curse the ones who shot at [Music] you I don't know
[60:18]if I can translate these passages may Allah curse the one who
[60:23]suffered [Applause] may Allah curse the one who saw those [Music] teeth
[60:54]may Allah curse the ones who made your women cry and [Music]
[61:01]weep Subhan Allah I didn't want to mention this but now that
[61:09]we've reached the women and the children why not says in his
[61:18]he narrates a story he says that a man went to K
[61:24]he was asking about those who participated in the killing of abah
[61:31]to see what had happened to them he says he came across
[61:37]a man they said he participated he said I went to him
[61:44]he was blind in both eyes so I said to him what's
[61:50]your story what did you do how did you go blind he
[61:53]said I was one of 10 people 10 of us got together
[61:58]and said let's go Killin I was one of 10 when we
[62:09]reached carala the nine other people in the group they all took
[62:13]part in the massacre of but I never did he said I
[62:30]never shot an arrow I never struck with the sword I never
[62:36]thre a spear all I did was stand there and watch these
[62:41]horrific crimes being perpetrated he said I didn't do anything at all
[62:48]but then when I got back to K I went to bed
[62:55]that night I saw a dream where someone who looked truly terrifying
[63:01]he came to me and he said answer Allah he's summoning you
[63:08]he's calling for you he said I said what does rasool want
[63:15]from me he grabbed my hand and he took me to an
[63:22]area in the desert where was seated he was covered with pass
[63:27]from head to toe and in front of him there was a
[63:35]bowl full of blood he saido was crying Dusty disheveled no turban
[63:42]over his head he said to me how could you do what
[63:45]you did he said was flanked by two angels who were holding
[63:53]whips made of Fire he said yahool Allah what do you mean
[64:01]I didn't do anything rasool then commanded my nine friends to be
[64:08]brought each one of them was whipped with the flame and they
[64:13]burnt and burst instantaneously then rasool Allah said to me well what
[64:21]about you I said Yool Allah I swear to God I never
[64:25]shot an arrow I never threw a spear I never struck anyone
[64:29]with my sword Soo said this to me he said but you
[64:40]increased the numbers in other words let me try and open this
[64:45]up for you when lady s came out of the tent looking
[64:59]for her father's horse imagine the fear imagine the terror seeing 30,000
[65:08]men you are one of those men you struck fear in the
[65:17]hearts of may Allah curse you then dipped his finger in that
[65:34]blood he took a tiny smidget and he put it over my
[65:37]eyes when I woke up I was blind Allah you've all heard
[65:52]that IM Hussein left an ill daughter in Medina she's no known
[65:58]as when abdah Hussein is about to pack up the Caravan is
[66:04]ready they're about to leave Imam Hussein comes to her bedside he
[66:09]wakes her up we don't know the exact nature of that intimate
[66:15]conversation between father and daughter but we can only imagine Imam Al
[66:24]Hussein saying sweetheart wake up we're about to leave wakes up father
[66:30]where are you going to leave me take me with you IM
[66:37]Hussein would say this is a journey that will not end well
[66:40]this is going to be a long trip we're not coming back
[66:47]father if you must leave and you can't take me then perhaps
[66:54]you could leave my brother Al sweetheart alar can't stay alar is
[67:04]my special sacrifice is the one who will resemble on the plains
[67:13]of carala he will remind them of his grandfather father then why
[67:22]don't you ask my Uncle Abbas to Stay With Me sweetheart your
[67:28]uncle Abbas is my flagbearer today we saw we were there in
[67:33]the ceremony when they raised the flag all I could think of
[67:41]was he's my flagbearer he's my Onan Army he can't stay he
[67:50]has to come father what about my infant brother surely if I
[67:59]can't go then Al can't go my sweetheart honey is my last
[68:07]and final arrow on the day of he's my tiniest Soldier he's
[68:16]a soldier who can't even go towards the battlefield I have to
[68:24]carry him with me [Music] husin
