[1:18]four zero six seven one eight three seven imam hussein tv your
[1:26]gateway to karbala [Music] uh [Music] [Music] i'm sure all the viewers
[2:24]will agree with me that's one of the biggest problems we face
[2:26]in the world at the moment is the problem with intoxicants a
[2:30]problem with the world of alcohol a problem with narcotics a problem
[2:36]with the world of drugs a hundred years ago you could go
[2:39]to many countries in the world and there would be a clear
[2:41]prohibition when it came to drugs and when it came to alcohol
[2:47]but now we live in a time where countries have begun to
[2:52]re-evaluate in the name of freedom and that's why this whole idea
[2:56]of it's important to give everybody freedom who sets the boundaries for
[3:00]freedom because now when you look for example in canada or you
[3:06]look in america or you look in portugal or you look in
[3:10]uruguay and you look even within certain muslim countries there are major
[3:15]questions about the amount of alcohol abuse and drug abuse that can
[3:20]be seen within the general population a hundred years ago there would
[3:24]be prohibitions of course money plays a major role when we're looking
[3:28]at the world of alcohol and drugs because at the end of
[3:31]the day if you own a restaurant for example that's not serving
[3:36]alcohol and you already maybe have to pay more money for halal
[3:40]meat you always have to think about your profits in relation to
[3:45]your rent your profits in relation to how the business is growing
[3:49]whereas with alcohol you have certain business owners will tell you that
[3:54]they're getting a 300 400 percent markup when alcohol is there the
[4:03]human being is so addicted to alcohol that in some cases when
[4:07]the covert 19 hit us one of the main concerns was how
[4:11]am i going to get myself back in the pub for some
[4:15]people of course that's more of a social element but for some
[4:19]cultures there is no social element without a drink in the workplace
[4:24]muslims have had to adapt because they've seen that if they want
[4:29]to get promoted how am i going to get promoted if i'm
[4:31]not part of that drinking culture there are many who've been promoted
[4:35]because they're a good laugh in the pub but when you're not
[4:39]a good laugh in the pub how exactly do you get promoted
[4:42]and not everybody necessarily has that same uh iman there are some
[4:48]people who will give in and say listen bro i'm not gonna
[4:49]drink but i don't mind if there's drink all over the table
[4:53]and then there's others who are like well bro listen even if
[4:58]i have one drink the quran doesn't categorically say that alcohol is
[5:02]haram because you know there are some muslim countries in the world
[5:06]where muslims are renowned for how much they drink a person only
[5:11]has to go to pakistan and you see that pakistan sees itself
[5:16]as trying to apply quite a bit of islamic law but pakistanis
[5:19]can drink if you look for example at arabs many of them
[5:25]don't mind the weekend trip to bahrain because you can have a
[5:29]good drink there and so don't be surprised if you see a
[5:31]lot of saudi arabians on a thursday night for example going across
[5:37]the jack daniels bridge to make sure that they have a good
[5:42]time because in saudi arabia you're not going to get that and
[5:45]so when a person tries to pinpoint the fact that alcohol is
[5:49]a british problem or european problem or an american problem reality is
[5:52]that alcohol is something that can be an addiction to any human
[5:59]being and so likewise when we're looking at the problem of alcohol
[6:01]some will say yeah but there's certain muslim countries you'll never see
[6:04]alcohol i may not see a lot of it in iraq but
[6:06]there's certainly bars in certain places someone might not see it being
[6:10]sold in iran but you know when you want to hold the
[6:13]good party in north tehran you're able to get anything you want
[6:18]and so likewise when we're when we're looking at intoxicants like alcohol
[6:23]the main problem that muslims have is they're like well is there
[6:28]any ayah that ever said that you know we all want those
[6:34]clear eyes don't we almost and if we get those verses does
[6:40]that mean we'll stop not necessarily a verse can tell you and
[6:42]you still don't pray so it's not necessary but for some people
[6:47]their main argument has always been that if there was a verse
[6:49]that spoke about for example alcohol being problematic then i might take
[6:53]it more into consideration especially if there's a prohibition but what saddens
[6:59]me more than anything is when i see the rise of drugs
[7:03]in the muslim community you know i've always felt that alcohol wasn't
[7:09]that problematic although i know that there are still parts of the
[7:12]muslim community i mean within our own community of the followers of
[7:17]bait salawat allah salam i always used to find it hard to
[7:20]imagine that someone who hears about yazid and the ways of yazid
[7:24]and the drunkenness of yazid would ever be someone who would follow
[7:28]yazid's path because we always say to ourselves would you have been
[7:34]with imam hussain or would you have been with yazid if you
[7:37]were there in karbala and many of us would like to think
[7:40]we would have been with imam hussain and then you have some
[7:43]people would you believe who are shia ali and that's why this
[7:48]idea that just because we call ourselves means that we are the
[7:51]real shia there are sadness who are known for how much they
[7:59]drink but i never thought it'd get to weed marijuana and the
[8:02]world of cannabis and now i see that we have youth who
[8:05]stand outside a medullus all having a good smoke and then they
[8:13]come in and they stop actually commemorating imam al-hussein since when did
[8:21]imam al-hussein have anything to do with that lifestyle would you believe
[8:25]there are certain people who even recite poetry in honor of hussain
[8:28]al-salam or even beat their chests in honor of imam islam who
[8:31]are known to love the odd talk of marijuana of weed or
[8:37]whatever we want to call it in the world of cannabis there
[8:40]are some people let's not even put them near magilis just sit
[8:43]with their friends and chill and they're all doing it and they're
[8:47]sons of renowned families where they're fathers who have been exemplary figures
[8:53]for years with their characters now you find that this is far
[8:58]away from what was being taught and for some it's a major
[9:05]trial because every time they try and leave these addictions they find
[9:09]it difficult and then they hear the media telling them for example
[9:11]alcohol is good for your heart you hear someone tell you drugs
[9:15]medically every drug is okay if it's medicine and so when you
[9:21]hear these things you begin to think to yourself well how do
[9:25]we solve this issue does the quran actually mention these things and
[9:29]we know that the quran would have to mention such things because
[9:32]we know on the first level that when islam comes to the
[9:36]arabs if they were really jaahil then these are the symbols and
[9:39]the symptoms of jail do you agree yeah and if you want
[9:44]to see ignorance and you want to see people who unfortunately in
[9:47]some cases shaytan affects them then would you agree with me that
[9:50]these would be the symbols of the effect clearly in arabia there
[9:56]were people who were drinking the arabs used to love the drink
[10:01]and i'm not just going to say it's in arabia only listen
[10:03]you could go centuries after rasulallah lived and after the imams lived
[10:10]and you could see for example i don't know sufis like the
[10:15]calendar sophies would love a drink and would love a a good
[10:17]bit of a smoke and we find that if you go for
[10:25]example to iran you'll see that there's opium there's hashish and you
[10:29]do sometimes try and look in the traditions with rasulallah ever mentioned
[10:34]things like for example drugs and there are these traditions i know
[10:39]how reliable they are they're open to question there will come a
[10:43]time when you'll see people who consume a substance called banj they
[10:46]avoid me and i avoid them i say and another tradition about
[10:50]saluting the jews and the christians but avoiding those who smoke a
[10:55]substance called banj now what is that band what does it do
[11:00]to you and so you find that when we're looking at this
[11:03]world we're looking at a world of these things which intoxicate you
[11:10]and so when we look at the quran we're trying to have
[11:14]an understanding of these intoxicants and their effects on the community how
[11:20]do these intoxicants affect how did they get prohibited because if someone
[11:28]today asks me show me alcohol in the quran show me drugs
[11:30]in the quran what do i do and there are others who
[11:34]might sell around to you and say listen bro it's grapes it's
[11:37]apples it's plants allah says in the quran grapes are good for
[11:43]you allah created these apples fruit and veg allah created plants what's
[11:49]wrong the problem isn't the grape or the plant some might go
[11:52]as far as saying that the grape and the plant is not
[11:54]something which is nejis but it's what you do with it if
[11:58]you look in the quran and surah 16 verse 67 my dear
[12:02]brother sisters at home in surah 16 verse 67 allah mentions to
[12:07]us about the world of fruits but how i can take a
[12:13]fruit and direct its usage in that which is positive or that
[12:17]which is negative i can direct the usage of a fruit to
[12:21]make something good for the human being or to make something that
[12:26]destroys the human being today when i go into some of these
[12:27]uh fruit juice places some of the stuff they're doing is unreal
[12:32]you can walk out the shake where you've got dates mixed with
[12:36]avocado mixed with honey you know the best things one may argue
[12:39]for energy and for stamina and for strength but likewise that same
[12:44]person can say to me listen on top of this i can
[12:49]slip you something that could intoxicate in surah 16 verse 6 7
[13:18]and the grapes what can you do with them you can make
[13:23]either things which intoxicate or things which prove to be a sustenance
[13:28]for you who were the great by itself the apple by itself
[13:34]the nakhla by itself the plant by itself these are not things
[13:38]which i'm going to look at and say these are haram even
[13:41]when i look at the pig or the dog the pig and
[13:46]the dog are wonderful creations of allah we're the ones who can
[13:49]direct their usage to protecting my house in the case of the
[13:53]dog or to coming and licking my face but the dog in
[14:00]itself yes the dog might go towards the world of najasa when
[14:03]it comes to but when we're looking at the date palm or
[14:07]i'm looking at anab allah says of the fruits of depalms and
[14:16]of the grapes we say in arabic did you see that drunk
[14:28]person is it not true sakra sakara intoxication a person can use
[14:41]grapes to result in making humans intoxicated i can go to a
[14:46]town where in the fruit and veg market in the morning i
[14:50]see grapes for sale in the evening i can walk past town
[14:53]at midnight and see people wear grapes and other substances mixed with
[14:59]these whatever has been fermented how many years it's been out can
[15:03]actually intoxicate a human being where that human being can get up
[15:06]to all sorts and destroy people's lives as in would you all
[15:11]agree with me how many deaths in the roads are caused because
[15:15]of drink driving that same human being six hours earlier at work
[15:20]is looking at you in a job interview and asking you about
[15:24]your ethics in the workplace six hours later because he's now out
[15:30]of work and had a good time that has intoxicated him and
[15:33]he's killed someone in your community does that family recover the domino
[15:37]effect is what destroys the quran said that from something like anab
[15:47]you can have that you can have that which intoxicates and mind
[15:56]you grape and mint being my favorite shisha flavor doesn't intoxicate let
[16:00]me be very clear about that and make that a disclaimer or
[16:07]you could be someone who could use grapes to make grape juice
[16:10]what else can you use grapes for to make which other things
[16:13]there are many things a person can use grapes for for example
[16:18]jam there you go my ash our resident jam connoisseur this is
[16:25]a sign for people who understand you look at anyone in the
[16:30]world if they use their rationality they'll come to a conclusion that
[16:33]these things which have been given to me as a sign from
[16:37]god for my sustenance why am i using them to destroy people's
[16:42]lives why i said how many adverts do we grew up in
[16:44]we grew up seeing adverts don't drink a drive drinking not good
[16:49]for you don't drink when you're pregnant bob why are you then
[16:52]allowing this poison to be in society i know that there are
[16:57]many people who will watch this who may be non-muslims and they
[17:00]may turn around and they might say for example that look for
[17:04]us it's something that we find giving us pleasure islamic law didn't
[17:08]concern itself with the individual it concerned itself with the whole do
[17:12]you agree with me that the presence of that which intoxicates has
[17:17]more negative effects than it does have positive so therefore did the
[17:23]companions used to drink yes companions of rasulallah used to love the
[17:31]drink before they came towards the religion of islam did some of
[17:34]them used to drink when they became muslim yes there were some
[17:38]who used to drink as well when they became muslim what's the
[17:41]proof of this the proof can be seen in one of the
[17:45]first verses that makes it clear that intoxication means you can never
[17:50]come near or you should never come near salah while intoxicated go
[17:56]to surah 4 of the quran surah 4 verse number 43 of
[17:58]the quran my dear brothers and sisters at home in surah 4
[18:03]verse number 43 of the quran allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tries to
[18:06]provide a guidance to the nation muslim community in its formative period
[18:12]by saying to us that there are some of them who still
[18:15]drink alcohol before they begin what before they begin their salah because
[18:24]there are two types of meanings possibly to this ayah in surah
[18:28]4 verse number 43 of the quran surah 4 verse 43 of
[18:35]the quran there are two meanings to this all you who believe
[18:44]do not approach salah while you are in the state of intoxication
[18:49]oh you who believe surah 4 verse 43 all you who claim
[18:55]to have belief do not approach salah while you are intoxicated and
[19:07]so until you know what you have said this ayah what does
[19:12]it show me it shows me on the first level that there
[19:15]were people who were muslims in the time of rasulallah who approached
[19:22]salah while they were intoxicated so when the quran says it's referring
[19:30]to the isn't it oh you who claim to believe it's not
[19:34]saying [Applause] do not approach salah while you are intoxicated some ulama
[19:51]said what does this mean some ulama said this verse meant that
[19:57]if you're drunk don't go near the mosque it's not that they
[20:05]would go and pray drunk it's that they may have been drunk
[20:10]and if you're drunk you shouldn't go and enter the mosque most
[20:13]of the uh say that no there were companions who had had
[20:17]a bit of a drink and then they went towards what they
[20:20]went towards salah intoxicated and so therefore the quran came and said
[20:26]at the beginning and i if you've noticed in my tafasir in
[20:28]the last few weeks i've shown how allah subhanahu wa ta'ala doesn't
[20:34]expect you in one day to completely become religious you know sometimes
[20:41]you look at somebody and you expect them that in one day
[20:45]they're gonna stop drinking alcohol and one day they're just gonna wear
[20:49]hijab people develop at different times yes there are certain people who
[20:53]masha allah they can do a 180.
[20:56]there are others who do a 179 there are others who do
[21:00]a 65.
[21:00]by the way have you ever heard this in our communities someone
[21:02]says bro this guy done a 360.
[21:04]360 doesn't make any sense because that just means that he just
[21:08]came back to exactly the same place he is true bro the
[21:10]guy danny what did you do at 360.
[21:13]i said what do you mean he does 360.
[21:16]he got completely changed i'm not about bro 360 means that he's
[21:18]just the same guy what it should be is that the the
[21:22]guy dino 180 180 what does a person doing a 180 mean
[21:27]it means that this person going from there in the for example
[21:31]east they've gone west east they were the soldier of shaytan now
[21:37]they're the soldier of allah so you have allah i have a
[21:46]friend of mine in the community who does this in muharram they
[21:50]don't drink and in shahada well they probably can't drink but in
[21:54]muharram they don't drink you say bro why don't you drink a
[21:55]muharram it goes bro respect what imam was saying um and so
[22:00]firstly how about god and secondly how about the other 355 days
[22:05]of the year did god just go to sleep the other 355
[22:08]and justin muharram he woke up because there are people who are
[22:11]like bro you know what i listen to music the whole year
[22:12]except muharram first 10 nights we don't listen to music why do
[22:16]you need to go from one extreme to another just relax religion
[22:20]doesn't tell you go one extreme to another firstly if it's vulgar
[22:23]music you're listening to full of rudeness and so on and so
[22:26]forth then you shouldn't be listening to it the whole year anyway
[22:30]yes you're saying i'm doing it out of respect for imam al-hussein
[22:34]first you do have respect for allah and secondly muharram isn't appeared
[22:40]some families went too extreme with their children in muharram and no
[22:43]tv for two months and eight days why i want to watch
[22:53]football football's not haram i want to watch uh news news okay
[23:00]you want to empathize with that it's good on you but don't
[23:05]make it a law it's not a law i know people who
[23:10]got so morally great from these things i know people who completely
[23:14]left religion because they're like for two months and eight days and
[23:16]you know what they make them do they make their daughters in
[23:18]those two months and eight days watch for example tv and if
[23:23]there's a matches they put on hijab why you point on hijab
[23:25]when there's a message on tv if you're gonna go outside of
[23:30]the house and you're gonna take off that hijab so what was
[23:34]the point of the hijab when there's a medless but once again
[23:37]what god tries to do is he tries to also tell us
[23:40]that trying to understand people's development with these things differs some of
[23:46]these companions as soon as this verse is revealed for example some
[23:51]of them have already left alcohol out of respect of rasulallah or
[23:54]others because they you don't need god to tell you that alcohol
[23:57]is not good for you you know i don't need god in
[24:01]my life really to tell me that alcohol's not good for me
[24:03]what god helps me with is making sure that i observe that
[24:05]i don't drink otherwise there are many human beings who don't believe
[24:08]in god but may stay away from al said for example if
[24:11]i look at liverpool football club honestly i see for example james
[24:16]milner james milner's never drunk in his life and he's the vice
[24:19]captain of liverpool football and you know when it comes to celebrations
[24:21]okay i've saved your money and muhammad don't drink okay but james
[24:27]milner yorkshire lad why would he be having a drink because he
[24:31]doesn't need to follow islam for him to realize that this may
[24:35]affect stamina health heart artery kidneys liver etc etc someone says you
[24:42]know what said no i've got to tell you i drunk last
[24:46]week so i'm not praying for 40 days i said why he
[24:47]said because they say if you drink you can't pray for 40
[24:51]days i said which nonsense said that he said oh i've always
[24:55]heard that you can't pray for 40 days if you've drunk salah
[24:58]can never stop this ayah doesn't say oh you who believe because
[25:03]you're drunk you can't pray for 40 days it just says that
[25:07]do not approach salah in a state of intoxication because then you're
[25:11]not going to know what you're saying before you know it feel
[25:20]now some people will laugh but by the way this happened this
[25:28]happened the third khalifa had a governor in kufa called walid the
[25:35]quran had revealed an eye which i discussed a couple of sessions
[25:39]ago all you who believe when a transgressor or evil person or
[25:44]sinner comes to you with news verify that news the quran revealed
[25:49]an eye about him being a faster we agree imam al-hasan told
[25:54]walibin akbar one day he said to him every ayah on iman
[25:56]is referring to my father every ayah on fist that's referring to
[26:00]you you will eat me every ayah about fisk and forsook about
[26:07]being a sinner is about you and every eye on iman's about
[26:10]my father this guy becomes governor of kofa you know what governor
[26:17]of kufa means that's like one of the most sacred huge positions
[26:21]of mahmoud afan's maternal relative you see when people say to me
[26:27]why do the shia i have a problem with for example abu
[26:33]bakr or omar or uthman what is the problem why do you
[26:41]guys not follow them or view them the way for example the
[26:45]sunni school does we say because for us there are certain decisions
[26:50]that are made that are unjust of those decisions for example abu
[26:59]bakr angering father for us that's a red line for you listen
[27:03]whatever you want to believe you can believe i'm not going to
[27:07]get in your way for me omar appointing muawiyah to be governor
[27:14]of sham really but for you that might be something acceptable for
[27:26]me uthman putting a man who the quran is called the faster
[27:33]as governor of a muslim territory when i as a shiite have
[27:38]a difference with these things it's also because my imam lashed this
[27:42]man because of his drunkenness and salah in salah this guy prayed
[27:50]fajr which is how many are my dear brothers and sisters at
[27:53]home fajr is a tour okay can we just repeat that again
[27:59]if you pray fajr for raqqa you must be drunk because half
[28:03]of us at one and a half are trying to jump back
[28:07]in bed me at fajr listen i can sit here maulana say
[28:10]it whatever this that fragile there are times half my eyes are
[28:14]closed this guy's gone to four rook ads you gotta be drunk
[28:26]don't approach salah while you are intoxicated and you know intoxication can
[28:35]affect you this harambe of course on the day of judgement there'll
[28:37]be people who will be you know they are proper they feel
[28:39]intoxicated because of what they see but here this intoxication that we
[28:45]talk about is that islam wanted you to go to salah away
[28:50]from these negis things away from that which is impure away from
[28:53]that which will make you suddenly jump soras and so on and
[28:58]so forth the next ayah was in surat al-baqarah in surah 2
[29:03]verse 219 allah made it clear for us even further but this
[29:07]time god went into a bit more of a description about why
[29:14]intoxicants are a problem now yes they ask you concerning ham what
[29:26]did we say the word for head covering was in islam what
[29:30]is the word when a lady covers her head what's the word
[29:33]when a lady covers her head when a lady covers her head
[29:41]a muslim lady covers her head what's the word well if it's
[29:44]hijab it's gonna have nothing to do with my eye i need
[29:46]you to help me with my ayah as it doesn't say yes
[29:50]it says yes what is the word for head covering your sister
[29:59]covers her head your sister covers her head your mother covers her
[30:02]head what's the word for head covering well if the word for
[30:08]head coming that means my mom's drunk so what's the word for
[30:13]head covering if you ask many muslims what's the word for when
[30:19]a lady covers their head say hijab but that doesn't help me
[30:22]in this eye says yes doesn't say anything about hijab so why
[30:25]am i using this example and that's why many muslims when they
[30:31]ask show me hijab in the quran they can't because there is
[30:35]no verse about covering your head called hijab the word for covering
[30:40]one's head is khimar hence the i and the quran says and
[30:48]let them strike their veils over their bosoms so here when the
[30:56]quran says yes they ask you oh muhammad about hamra hammer is
[31:07]that which covers one's head covers one's reasoning covers one's rationality covers
[31:17]one's senses most of us know hamr as alcohol true but any
[31:23]intoxicant that causes you to be stoned out of it angry lights
[31:37]that all falls under that category so that means that this ayah
[31:41]yes at the time in arabia they were using it to ask
[31:48]the prophet about alcohol it can also refer if someone came and
[31:51]said to him can you tell me there's this thing called cannabis
[31:56]that i smoke with my friends and we're still going to come
[32:00]to jamaha we're going to come to imaginalist we're even going to
[32:03]be our chess we're going to serve food and all these other
[32:06]things people do related to a little bait but you can't understand
[32:10]the end of the night i need this and then when i
[32:19]wake up in the morning i need it and you know what
[32:23]ya rasool allah it just calms me down i do get angry
[32:28]quickly but but it calms me down as well but i can
[32:32]really get angry but calms me and i i'm energetic sometimes but
[32:41]it does make me get lazy but i'm i'm not always lazy
[32:44]not always lazy but i can really become lazy where i just
[32:50]could sit back with my friend and we could just spend the
[32:55]day doing it not motivated to do anything because you know there's
[32:59]there's a world now of dopamines and you know like even though
[33:03]the prophet would be looking at you what do you mean dopamine
[33:07]yeah they're decreased but don't mean that i'm that lazy i'm not
[33:10]that unmotivated in the time of the prophet was alcohol when today
[33:19]someone says to me that you can't find me an i in
[33:23]the quran that doesn't allow me to smoke weed or marijuana or
[33:26]the cannabis family i say but there is an ayah that says
[33:29]they ask you concerning that which intoxicates or covers what is it
[33:35]that this thing's doing now there is a question here an interesting
[33:38]question and that interesting question is does this fall under that which
[33:44]can be called intoxicant from the musa for example something musakar can
[33:50]you say that taking drugs intoxicates you i think if you ask
[33:56]people why they're doing it they do want that feeling of being
[34:00]in a different zone why does a person drink alcohol because they're
[34:07]addicted to the taste sometimes or because also it takes all the
[34:16]bad memories away for a small period i don't want to remember
[34:19]for example work having to earn a living marriage issues possible sexual
[34:25]abuse as a child so i need things that ward that off
[34:31]and so what we find is that they ask him in surah
[34:35]2 verse 219.
[34:36]they ask him yes and what does the holy prophet reply he
[34:42]replies with something very interesting gives us the rationale behind why there's
[34:48]a problem he says what's my sir what's maeser mesa is another
[35:03]word for gambling um something which has jose is something which is
[35:15]easy in austria with hardship there will come ease why is mesa
[35:20]related to gambling someone says i know the word kumar but why
[35:24]is mesa mesa because the ease of which you acquire money without
[35:27]having to work yep ten to one i put 20 quid on
[35:33]it so something easy to get money no risk involved problematic business-wise
[35:40]these things like this cannabis marijuana it can have benefits alcohol can
[35:54]have benefits it can have what else but it has also disadvantages
[36:00]you gain more sins doing them than the advantages of them so
[36:04]if someone shows me the benefits of alcohol and drugs can you
[36:09]say that their benefits outweigh the disadvantages if we were to write
[36:14]the number of benefits of alcohol and the number of disadvantages of
[36:17]alcohol would we have more benefits or more disadvantages what would you
[36:23]say disadvantages the answer is exactly that so when someone asks you
[36:26]why is that haram look what the quran says but their sin
[36:35]is greater than their benefit i can see that something like marijuana
[36:44]people say to me there's medical marijuana yep they say that there's
[36:50]medical marijuana and medical marijuana might be something which is good for
[36:55]for example anti-seizures helping me with seizures helping me with pain relief
[36:59]because i know that even medical marijuana you may have that which
[37:04]has thc and that which has cbd and cbd because it doesn't
[37:09]intoxicate maybe that which is if you've got no other resort of
[37:13]course and it's prescribed by a doctor not by a guy with
[37:15]a surfboard in l.a because there's a guy at the beach with
[37:20]a surfboard in la and tells me i'll prescribe for you some
[37:27]weed bro that's not my doctor so i see thc and i
[37:33]see cbd and thc may be problematic although people may be discussing
[37:36]what if it's low levels and cbd i may see that there's
[37:40]oils that are made and my mother has a particular pain so
[37:44]medically these things will help but can you say to me that
[37:47]the world of drugs the most benefits are here or there are
[37:50]many disadvantages and drugs when you see those who've gone on to
[37:54]heroin what has it done to their life you see those in
[37:59]the world of the you know you said to be cocoa a
[38:02]plant you know originally these plants some all of these are okay
[38:05]baba the plants and herbs are not haram what you did with
[38:09]them you either went towards haram or you went towards halal and
[38:15]so a person out there says are you saying that in islam
[38:23]everything in the world of alcohol or drugs is haram no there
[38:25]are some people who may still use alcohol for example when it
[38:32]comes to areas such as medicine true there might be some who
[38:36]use alcohol for perfumes there may be some who use alcohol for
[38:39]cooking products but as long as it's not that which is intoxicant
[38:44]someone says this alcohol product i want to use for cooking you
[38:48]can say to the guy do you drink it can you drink
[38:51]it because bro what are you talking about if i drink i'm
[38:54]gonna you know it's not gonna say okay that might be but
[38:56]that which you're able to use for alcohol intoxicant that's why we
[39:01]can't put white wine and red wine and all of these on
[39:03]our food so what we have over here therefore yes it is
[39:14]the quran gave you a rationale it didn't just say to haram
[39:19]it said draw a list benefits of drugs uh cbd uh oil
[39:24]cbd good for the pain relief cbd good for anti-seizure cbd cbd
[39:31]cbd um but then cocaine heroin and then all of these others
[39:36]and then you look at what drugs has done to people and
[39:39]then you look at alcohol benefits but then when you look at
[39:42]the disadvantages that's what the quran was sure go to any human
[39:44]being in the world and say to them is there more advantages
[39:46]or disadvantages of alcohol being in society how many punch-ups because of
[39:53]alcohol how many sexual abuse cases because of alcohol how many people
[39:56]killed because of drink drivers how many do you find who cause
[39:58]violence because of alcohol were they beaten ladies black and blue that
[40:04]was the second verse so the first time don't process intoxicated second
[40:10]one they ask you third one surah 5 verse number 90.
[40:14]go to surah 5 swaras verse number 90 allah introduces us to
[40:19]another eye of the quran concerning intoxicants what does the [Music] we
[40:36]said in that context probably alcohol today we can still look at
[40:40]this as intoxicants and watch games of chance gambling well islam what's
[40:50]unserban islam one of them is when you you sacrifice for example
[40:59]animals and you take the blood and you put around an idol
[41:03]you get stones and you put it near the idol another one
[41:06]is you get meat and you draw lots like you bet who's
[41:13]gonna win the meat and those who win it distribute to the
[41:16]poor and those who lose have to pay for it so the
[41:19]arabs used to do these things you know wager let's have a
[41:22]wager guys tonight who's going to win the boxing let's put five
[41:24]five five five whoever whoever wins the rest have to pay for
[41:27]the pizzas that night people would do these things in arabia yes
[41:42]one of the abominations or one of the impurities of shaytan if
[41:46]something is one of them shaytaan do you think it's haram probably
[41:51]you know i said like when i hear muslims saying bro there's
[41:55]no verse in the quran that says bro when something is one
[41:58]of the impurities of shaytan that should be enough for you to
[42:02]realize yeah that could be quite wrong because mr shaytan doesn't do
[42:06]things halfway but you know what i love about these verses is
[42:10]they show you what alcohol does quran says stay away from it
[42:19]and you will be successful that liverpool midfielder is not that fit
[42:25]at 35 and strong where other players retire earlier unless he has
[42:33]learned to look after himself look after his health you'll be successful
[42:37]if you stay with uh how many great hollywood actors and actresses
[42:41]alcohol finish them i bet you can think of a couple alcohol
[42:44]rehab alcohol addict alcohol rehab yeah i only remember two who committed
[42:48]suicide one of them i forgot his name but another robin williams
[42:52]robin williams one of the best actors you'll ever come across unreal
[42:56]what alcohol did to him who was the other one i forgot
[43:01]his name um it looked a bit like boris johnson he has
[43:04]like a big blonde blonde like you know strong blonde hair um
[43:09]he was a director of films as well anyway so these guys
[43:14]as well there was there was a film i think center of
[43:18]a woman al pacino was blind and then there was a student
[43:20]al pacino's blind general looked after him anyway these examples are not
[43:25]for muslims muslims don't watch films anyway so what we have here
[43:31]is that the quran says to us that all you who believe
[43:37]these are the impurities of who the impurities of shaytan and what
[43:49]you have therefore is in the next verse verse number 91 what
[44:02]does shaytan want to do with drugs and alcohol he wants to
[44:07]cause enmity and hatred between you how many drug cartels can you
[44:11]name me in the world who just killed each other non-stop non-stop
[44:16]yeah i feel sorry there are people in south america these people
[44:20]lovers of god lovers of jesus christ how many families killed each
[44:27]other how many killed each other in new york how many killed
[44:29]each other in italy how many killed each other in other parts
[44:32]of the world that we don't even know of not the ones
[44:35]we see in documentaries and so on quran said it in shaytan
[44:47]wants intoxicants to bring animosity and enmity between you do you agree
[44:54]that intoxicants drugs and alcohol bring the biggest punch ups and killing
[44:57]between people whether it's one-on-one on a friday night or whether it's
[45:05]generally it says alhamdulillah because another thing that brings severe enmity between
[45:11]people is gambling you see you've either got the drug dealers and
[45:15]if you haven't paid them what's he doing come to your house
[45:18]done do you agree it's a world that you don't want to
[45:25]mess with but that drug dealer probably one day was a good
[45:29]guy and then wrong crowd and i guarantee you those guys before
[45:31]him good guy wrong crowd sometimes don't blame god you look at
[45:35]your crowd i could see crowds here they said to learn the
[45:39]quran i could see others know bro where are we going to
[45:41]blaze tonight that's a simple line they say to each other and
[45:44]these guys came to be lovers of hell albeit by the way
[45:48]that's the worst thing how would you face your imam and tell
[45:51]him this what i do how how how but the beauty about
[45:55]shah rahman is the month of october a person says that's it
[45:59]never again shaytan you will not affect me because you come home
[46:01]having had drugs swear at your mom curse your dad fight your
[46:07]siblings what have they done wrong to you what have they done
[46:10]wrong just because you become a crackhead you come home and you
[46:14]do that to your family what have they done wrong and so
[46:21]the quran says and what this is amazing and he keeps you
[46:35]away from remembering allah and salah you could see someone sit four
[46:44]five six hours days months say is that shaytan's aim with intoxicants
[46:57]is to keep you away from remembering allah and to keep you
[47:03]away especially from salah there is nothing there are people i know
[47:07]who stay up the whole night because of drugs no sleep don't
[47:14]even eat you expect him to do raku you think getting up
[47:18]for salah is your own doing sometimes tawfiq from allah but somebody
[47:24]who's in that world allah has shown us in the quran 1400
[47:28]years before we met colombia and italy and mexico and before we
[47:33]heard about everything else allah showed us over a thousand years ago
[47:37]shaytan what does he want to do he wants to make sure
[47:41]that he brings between you adawah and bhagwa enmity as well as
[47:49]what as well as hatred west side east side this group that
[47:52]group this click that click that gang that gank why why god
[47:57]honored you as his representative on earth you could have become higher
[48:03]than the angels you're now lower than an animal even an animal
[48:06]doesn't do what alcohol does what alcohol makes humans do even animals
[48:13]have not done and so therefore in the quran when god told
[48:20]us all of this he was trying to highlight to us that
[48:23]there are these situations which are going to occur in your own
[48:27]communities in our own communities today in the muslim world would you
[48:33]agree with me that we face a major problem with drugs and
[48:36]alcohol where people who were the last you'd expect would be the
[48:41]ones who would fall into it and that's why if you look
[48:44]in the quran allah would show us that things which are going
[48:47]to bring you to being finished or even suicide stay away from
[48:50]them if you look in surah 4 of the quran my dear
[48:55]brothers and sisters surah 4 verse number 29 of the holy quran
[48:58]you find that allah mentions the line and you ask yourself whether
[49:02]alcohol and drugs do this to you or no and the quran
[49:15]says don't kill yourself i ask you do you know people who've
[49:18]committed suicide either because of drugs or alcohol it's a shame and
[49:23]the quran says it's haram you could not kill yourself then i
[49:27]remember if i'm not mistaken surah 2 verse which in reference to
[49:36]this there are those who kill themselves and then there are those
[49:41]where allah says and don't with your own hands destroy yourself with
[49:48]your own with your own with your own hands with your own
[49:58]hands metaphorically and literally sometimes your own hand you use to destroy
[50:06]yourself sometimes you punch someone on a fight alcohol sometimes i use
[50:11]this drugs sometimes i slap someone because i'm drunk sometimes i sniff
[50:16]something drugs allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala in the quran said don't use your
[50:23]own hands to destroy yourself there's a day when your hands are
[50:28]going to speak you're going to have to be able to answer
[50:33]why they did what they did and hence you find in surah
[50:39]7 verse number 33 of the holy quran allah makes it clear
[50:44]that if we agree that alcohol is this huge sin then people
[50:50]say yeah but where does allah say in the quran that's haram
[50:53]surah 7 33 what has my lord prohibited allah has prohibited the
[51:11]shameful deeds public concealed and the ism what did the other eye
[51:15]of the quran say alcohol yes so you know when someone says
[51:23]to bro in the quran it doesn't say alcohol you say why
[51:26]it says yes say okay did allah say that it's an if
[51:35]yes in surah 7 33 allah says so therefore if alcohol and
[51:46]so in the 2 verse 2 9 here allah says the it
[51:51]is haram someone asked me saying that okay in donia no alcohol
[51:54]say it now i get it no problem can we have white
[51:58]wine at least in jenna would any of you like a drink
[52:05]in jannah yeah at least you're truthful that's probably because you're fasting
[52:08]you're thirsty anyway and you're just like i need any drink at
[52:11]the moment but the question has to be asked would we want
[52:15]a drink and gender now white wine is in the quran we'll
[52:20]get in general white wine hold on a minute you'll tell me
[52:24]that i'm going to have white wine in china you get white
[52:26]wine in jannah listen we best have everything halal in jannah first
[52:30]because we haven't stayed here you know you see muslims broken you
[52:35]have haram this haram this when i get to jannah i want
[52:39]everything halal but then people are like my bro in heaven we're
[52:42]really going to be able to have a drink yes we are
[52:44]and then someone once asked me are we going to be like
[52:49]intoxicated i'm not bro why would you want to be intoxicated you
[52:51]would at least remember what's going on i'm surprised when someone said
[52:54]bro i had such a great night it was unbelievable was it
[52:58]that good yeah bro i said so what happens i can't remember
[53:01]so how was it great of course shaytan knows how to cover
[53:07]everything for you but in the quran people always ask about the
[53:09]fact that you know is there like a heaven with streams of
[53:13]alcohol why could you like literally go jack daniels budweiser bacardi breezer
[53:17]and then i'm drinking and it's interesting that all you guys when
[53:21]i mention names of drinks all know it but when i mention
[53:25]verse of quran none of you can reply back to me now
[53:26]if you look at the quran for surah 37 of the quran
[53:30]surah 37 of the quran verse number 37 what is it 45
[53:38]probably 37 485 i would imagine uh where are we um okay
[53:45]yeah okay now um rashid you're here and you're our resident quran
[53:56]reciter with a lovely voice so please recite for me um 37
[54:00]of the quran okay which page is it said um okay classic
[54:07]she are still looking for the page now surah 37 of the
[54:15]quran have we reached there uh my dear and sisters at home
[54:19]please excuse us for this delay in finding the verse of the
[54:22]quran this is very natural in terms you've completely destroyed what i
[54:32]wanted to do surah 37 verse 45 of the quran white delicious
[54:53]unto those who drink it doesn't cause you a hangover nor does
[55:04]it cause you to be exhausted you know the difference with the
[55:09]wine we get in jannah when it says rivers of wine two
[55:11]main things of what alcohol does to you in dunya the quran
[55:15]says that won't do to you look at the ayah is like
[55:24]you know when you your senses are gone so you got like
[55:27]you just can't focus all the evil spirits have overtaken you as
[55:31]somebody will say oh sometimes subhanallah people drinking like what is that
[55:36]very good spirit so until you tell me how do i ward
[55:39]off spirits of evil and now you're drinking something called spirit roll
[55:45]hey i wonder if that's got anything to do with you know
[55:50]sometimes you have goblins and what was the other thing with goblins
[55:52]what's it called is it called ghoul ghouls subhanallah ghouls so that
[56:00]type of things you'd see in like a lord of the rings
[56:05]and harry potter yeah for some reason sometimes i've seen them outside
[56:08]churches why do churches look so haunted in the night something's like
[56:13]sitting out like that anyway quran says will they be exhausted because
[56:31]what's the second worst thing about hangover what do you always feel
[56:32]the second worst thing about a hangover said master sorry i'm just
[56:36]asking you for you just to say you feel exhausted yeah i
[56:40]know that you haven't drunk surah 56 of the quran verse number
[56:46]19 my dear brother sisters when the quran says in surah 56
[56:51]now can you get to our rashid please get to waka for
[56:56]the love of god you get and you know his father is
[57:02]so good at the quran surah 56 number 19.
[57:05]who's got to work okay muslim community of east london are represented
[57:10]today and i'm still not sure about the closeness of the quran
[57:14]surah 56 verse number 17 18 19 are you there verse 17
[57:20]recite for us foreign okay now do that in your lovely voice
[57:35]so please we want to hear in your lovely voice i want
[57:37]i want a classic tajweed um [Music] now we finally got there
[58:06]verse 17 said that there'll be youths who are going around serving
[58:08]us so at least we're coaching and jenna relax there's people coming
[58:11]and they're serving us no need to work hard then it says
[58:14]we've got all these goblets and so on cups for us to
[58:22]drink then it says you know like when someone has a migraine
[58:33]if in arabic if you want to do a like a a
[58:36]nice formality with someone where you've troubled them coming around their house
[58:39]or you've asked them for a favor and you've troubled them you
[58:42]look at them and you say means i've given you a headache
[58:48]with what i've done of course when every araka says it they
[58:52]don't mean it at all but you just still say it here
[58:55]the quran says the quran says they won't have the drink that
[59:02]you're going to have in genna what's going to happen with it
[59:04]the drink we're gonna have in general we will not have eggs
[59:07]from it nor will we lose our senses and feel hungover and
[59:11]be exhausted so yes there's gonna be nice drinks but maybe grape
[59:15]and apple over there was used in the right way and not
[59:17]necessarily used to destroy society for the sake of a bit of
[59:25]money we pray to allah subhanahu to keep us and our children
[59:26]guided and on the right path and away from the difficulties that
[59:32]intoxicants can eventually lead to the destruction of society allah protect us
[59:39]all in this holy month of ramadan i'll see you all tomorrow
