High School Husbands!
The Quran states, “…mates from your own selves that you may take comfort in them…” “and He ordained affection and mercy between you.” God introduced three very important functions in this verse.
What does affection mean? The difference between love and affection is that affection is expressed with words. Love is transmitted with a look. It has been written this way in the dictionary. A tradition says that it is more emphasized that a man should express love to a woman than a woman to a man.
One time a person came to Imam Sadiq (‘a) and said, “My wife bothers me.” The Imam (‘a) said, “You don’t tell your wife ‘I love you’ very much. Tell her.” If you go into the kitchen and wash all the dishes, it is not equal to saying one time, “I love you.”
Someone said, “All of the things that I do, making money, and working hard are because I love her. I don’t need to say it.” This man is comparing a woman with himself. A man doesn’t need a woman to tell him that she loves him very much. But, the opposite is true.
The Holy Prophet of Islam (s) said, “If a man tell his wife one time ‘I love you,’ this will stay in her heart till the end of her life.” It means that she won’t forget it. Have you seen some men say, “We said it one time. It is enough.” Because they see it has been so effective. No, each time it is said, its effect is something else.
Affection means this love should be expressed. I don’t want to create an argument between you, but some men have been raised in a house where their father hasn’t expressed his love to their mother. So, they don’t know how to do it. These men should take a course. The best coaches are their wives. They should teach these men little by little with the methods that they know.
The woman should say at different times, “One of my beautiful memories is the day that you told me, ‘I love you.’” When she says this, the man will gradually understand that, “Oh, this is very important for my wife.” Some married men have kept their high school way of thinking.
During high school, a person needs a friend. He likes his friend to be something like himself. Then when he wants to marry, he thinks he wants another friend. But, this time his friend shouldn’t have a beard and a moustache! It should be someone from the opposite sex.
No, a woman is different from a man, and we have to understand this. These men should take a course. The best coaches are their wives. They should teach these men little by little with the methods that they know. The woman should say several times, “One of my beautiful memories is the day that you told me, ‘I love you.’” When she says this, the man will gradually understand that, “Oh, this is very important for my wife.”

Why Ask for God’s Forgiveness?
Why should we supplicate God? What should we focus on and feel sorry for when praying? Why should we be sad?
Friends, the main reason for asking for God’s forgiveness is not our visible sins. The main reason that we should ask for God’s forgiveness through insisting, begging, taking refuge in God, invoking Him, and crying, is not just because of a few bad deeds. Asking for God’s forgiveness this comprehensively is not needed for our sins that we know of. What should we focus on and feel sorry for in praying? Why should we be sad? The main reason that we have to insist on asking for God’s forgiveness are our hidden vices.
This is the problem. Satan will torment the person who is not worried about his hidden vices. Friends, it doesn’t matter who or where he is. Whether the person is religious or prays. Whatever his political beliefs. Whoever is sure of himself, is ruined. Satan will torment him.
When Aba Abdillah Al-Husayn (a) was supplicating in the gulley where he was martyred, he was reviewing his worries about himself in the presence of God. “O the Redresser of he, who asks for redress, help me.” What does he mean, “Help me”? Does it mean lessen my wounds? Does it mean don’t let my head be cut off? Does “help me” mean these things?! Does “help me” mean don’t be unkind to me? So what help do you want? Why are you still supplicating and crying? You are not worried about what God will do! The Quran says, “He has the best names”. Imam Husayn (a) is not worried about God’s kindness or his own wounds either. These were destined!
Their faces became flushed as they came closer to martyrdom. They were sure that they were dying in the best situation! Imam Husayn (a) wasn’t worried about his situation either. Imam (a) what are you worried about now? What do you want God’s help for? Tell us so that tomorrow we can pray for that too.
The meaning of this is that one should never be sure about himself. The Commander of the Faithful (Imam Ali) (a) was never sure about himself. The Prophet (s) gave the news of Imam Ali’s (a), the Leader of the Faithful’s, martyrdom to him! If it was us, we would probably be excited and say, “Thanks God. We are going to be martyred. The Prophet (s) stated this.” Imam Ali (a) asked, “Am I a believer at that time?” O, Commander of the Faithful (a), you torture us by talking like this. Was this a real question?! Your question makes me feel miserable throughout my whole life! Was this a serious question? Were you joking? Were you talking emotionally? What was it?! Why did you ask this question?! You know you were born in the House of God. You could hear all revelations. The Prophet (s) said that you are the ‘Separator between Heaven and Hell’. This is your status. You know that the Prophet doesn’t lie! So what are you worried about? Don’t make us crazy. You are not joking either.
What are you still searching for deep inside? What a great being the human is! It is a command. It has been said, “Don’t be sure about yourself, otherwise your fountain of tears will dry.” Otherwise, your supplications will be for just a few actions for which God will tell you, “Those actions are not important. You yourself are in ruins. You purify yourself.”
Asking for God’s forgiveness is not for just a few actions. Asking for God’s forgiveness is asking for God’s help for our hidden vices, to which we are prone. And we have them. We have them. We have them!

The Palestinian people should prepare themselves for managing Palestine. This preparation is being created in them. This preparation, according to what Imam Khomeini said, has somehow been created in people. He said, “When you see that all hearts have realized one truth, know that God's help will follow.”
Consider the spontaneous demonstrations that are taking place in all countries, and also in Tehran a few nights ago when people were in the streets until morning. These demonstrations are different from all previous demonstrations. Your fervor today is different from all revolutionary feelings. When you look in people’s eyes, you see that they can’t wait anymore.
A woman went to Imam Sadiq (as) because she had lost her small child. She was upset the first and the second time when she went to the Imam. Imam Sadiq (as) calmed her down, invited her to be patient, and gave her hope. The third time she went to him she was extremely agitated. Imam Sadiq (as) said, “Your child will be found today. You will find your lost child.” When she left the Imam’s presence, she saw her child. The people around Imam Sadiq (as) asked him, “Did you use your knowledge of the unseen to tell her that her child will be found today?” Imam Sadiq (as) said, “No, I understood this from the eyes of this mother who was agitated. She couldn’t be patient and tolerate this anymore.”
O Imam of the Time, these people cannot bear to see the children of Gaza being massacred anymore. O Imam of the Time, none of the Muslims can. No decent human being in the world can bare this anymore. Accept our restlessness from us and allow us to see you, O Ibn al-Hasan!
The preparations for your Reappearance must be made with the strength of the Muslims. O Ibn al-Hasan, see the strong arms of the resistant Palestinian youth and come! O Ibn al-Hasan, come and bring Jesus, the son of Mary, with you. Free the world of Christianity and the world of Islam from this ominous darkness that’s been created by the shadow that international Zionism has cast over governments and nations. Save us with your light.

O God, why are You so angry and so upset with the unbelievers?! You talk against them very much! In chapter “Muhammd,” you order to fight them with severity. You forbid the believers from loving them. Your special gift in chapter “Hujurat” is creating hatred toward unbelief in people’s hearts. “He has made detestable to you unbelief, wrongdoing, and disobedience.” [Qur’an 49:7] Why is God so upset with the unbelievers?! And why aren’t we like that? We don’t have an accurate understanding of unbelief, so we are not upset. If we have an accurate perception of unbelief, we will be upset too. So what does unbelief mean?
What is unbelief? It refers to a person who deliberately escapes from reality. He ignores reality [and hides the truth]. Well, that's bad. How much do you want to keep doing this? One time you didn’t see a reality in one corner. Once you ignored another reality in another corner. A different time you saw something, but you lied, the common lies that people sometimes tell. Well, if this is what you are always doing, and you don't want to be realistic on fundamental issues, you have messed up God's plan.
God created people to choose. What is the necessary factor one needs to choose? Seeing. But you are completely against seeing! You want to cut off any connection with reality. So what did God create? Why did God create us?! He created us to be able to decide and choose based on our own will. In making these choices, we should constantly keep making the best choices and move toward Him step by step.
But when you decide to not see at all, you are completely undermining making choices. They bring two sweets or two scenes in front of you, and they tell you to choose or to judge. But you close your eyes saying, “I don't want to see at all.” You messed up the plan. You are messing up the game! Open your eyes and choose. One time you make a mistake; one time you behave correctly. One time you see more accurately; one time you see inaccurately. These things happen to a person because he is a human being. But you want to mess up the game completely!
One reason for God's anger is that seeing and being realistic are the essence of creation. Otherwise, why did God create human beings? See reality! You may choose the wrong angle for looking at realities at times. We will try to fix that together. Sometimes you attach importance to something and sometimes you don’t. We’ll try to fix this. This is the story of human life and the growth that one should achieve. But sometimes you try to not see anything at all and you disconnect yourself from reality.
The unbeliever has another characteristic too. What is that characteristic? He pushes others to disconnect themselves from reality too. He doesn't just stay in his own shell! Actually, this is what God talks about in the beginning of this chapter. “Those who do not believe and turn (people) away from the way of God…” [Qur’an 47:1] God’s way is for people to see reality.
In another place in the Qur’an, it says the unbelievers like you to be an unbeliever too. Why? “Out of envy for their souls.” [Qur’an 2:109] [We can say] they envy you because you are realistic! They want to do something so that you won’t be realistic either. How does Satan want to lead everyone into unbelief and despair?
He hurt Prophet Adam with the poison of despair. He said, “Shall I direct you to the Tree of Eternity and a kingdom which never decays?” [Qur’an 20:120] What should Adam have said? He should have said, “The God Who gave me these things has thought about my immortality too. I don’t need anything else. If I want to, I will tell God Himself, ‘O God, make me eternal and make Your blessings eternal.’”
Satan told Adam (as), “No one is thinking of you.
God doesn’t care about you. I will show you a way.” He tried to be smart! Unbelief means not seeing God’s grace! God became upset with Prophet Adam. This caused Adam to fall and be expelled from Heaven. Adam and Eve cried for years and said, “God, forgive us. We neglected You for a moment!”
The unbelievers are addicted to not seeing reality. They cause you to become addicted to not seeing reality too. So God gets upset. An unbeliever is a person who doesn’t see reality, especially the great realities of the universe that are very influential in a person’s life.
