The Special Effects of the “Ja’far Tayyar Prayer” on Our Daily Lives
Pray the “Ja’far Tayyar Prayer” every day. “Ja’far Tayyar Prayer?! Who does that?! It’ll take 45 minutes. Forget me!” I swear this is not fair. We waste many 45 minutes during the day and aren’t even bothered by it. Now that we talk about the Ja’far Tayyar Prayer… Of course, we should call it “The Holy Prophet’s Prayer.” This prayer is very magnificent. Promise to pray the Ja’far Tayyar Prayer for forty days.
When did Imam Reza (‘a) usually pray the Ja’far Tayyar Prayer? He prayed it instead of the midnight prayer. Then he prayed the last three cycles of prayer. It is so enjoyable! So enjoyable!
Someone says, “You’ve started praying.” Say, “Yes, I’ve started praying.” He says, “Forget it! Come on.” Say, “Forget it to do what? Go where? I don’t want God to keep me busy with other things.” The Ja’far Tayyar Prayer has several good effects apart from the inherent features that it has. After praying the Ja’far Tayyar Prayer, you will pray your four-cycle ritual prayers during the day very nicely. You will easily say, “Subḥāna Rabbī al-A`lā wa Biḥamdih” 3 times and be happy how quickly it finished. “The Ja’far Tayyar Prayer tired me, but in other…”
No, I was joking. But, it’s something like this. Praying will become very sweet for you. You will see that the Ja’far Tayyar Prayer wasn’t that hard either! One of its benefits is that your worshiping will become very beautiful. What are its other benefits? Your daily affairs will go more smoothly. I promise, one can see God in his or her life. 90 % of our failures in life are not other people’s faults, nor are they natural happenings in the world. It’s our own fault, and it’s God’s way. He twists you around! When are you usually very busy and caught up with something? Each person tell me based on his own job. For example, if he is an accountant, he’ll say, “At the end of the year.” If he is a teacher, he’ll say, “When they bring the test papers.” Where and when are each person’s problems, each person in his own career and job? Pray the Ja’far Tayyar Prayer during that period. Do the opposite and oppose the world; put it aside! Then, suddenly you will see that oh, you have an extra hour! These are things righteous people have experienced that I’m telling you.
Ayatollah Bahjat’s teaching schedule had become demanding. He had made his worshiping program more arduous too. His son related, “I said, ‘Reduce your worshiping some.’ You have all this teaching to do too.’ He replied, ‘I have realized through experience that when a person does his best in worshiping, other affairs will become easier.’”
Ayatollah Bahjat said, “I have experienced that if worshiping isn’t decreased, studying a lesson, which takes one hour, will finish in 10 minutes.”
I swear this isn’t fair. We waste so many 45 minutes during the day! 90 % of our failures in life are not other people’s faults, nor are they natural happenings in the world. It’s our own fault, and it’s God’s way. When are you usually very busy? Tell me. Do the opposite and oppose the world; put it aside! Make a decision to pray the Ja’far Tayyar Prayer for forty days.

We want God to give us security. We want to seek refuge in God as a result of having experienced insecurity. What do we need to know to make this come about better? What is it? God's power. His power!
I will tell you now. Read the Qur'an a lot. God, the Almighty, seriously intends to convince everyone who reads these verses that He is the first and last power in the universe. He wants to prove to you that He is a superpower, and actually He is the only power.
God is the absolute power. He does whatever He wants. He forgives, guides and grants sustenance to whomever He wants. [Qur’an 3:129, 74:31, 2:212] He attributes many things to Himself. “We [God] created heaven and earth. We said this and that.” God creates an upheaval! A person gradually accepts this.
Therefore, I ask you to first look at the Qur'an as an educational, spiritually effective, constructive book, not as a book that should be translated scientifically to take rulings and lessons from it. Let it correct you.
For example, they give eggplant stew to someone in a laboratory and say, “Test this and see if it’s good or not. Check the amount of vitamins in it.” This scientist won’t eat it even if he is dying from hunger. He wants to test this food. Many of us who go toward the Qur’an act like this scientist in the laboratory does. “Let’s see what’s in it.” Eat it! Eat it! You’re weak from hunger. Consume the Qur’an!
For example, one is listening to music. [Someone says,] “You’re listening to music a lot. You really enjoy it!” [He replies,] “No, I’ve been asked to write down the lyrics of these 100 songs. That’s what I’m doing. I don’t like them at all. I can’t relate to them. I don’t know their genres or anything about them.” This is a meaningless connection with music. The purpose of music is not for you to write the lyrics! A person who does this is a researcher and doesn’t understand the elements of music. He doesn’t fly with music.
Does anyone fly with music? Yes, as much as a hen can fly! But with the Qur’an, one flies to God Himself. He flies through the atmosphere and through the galaxy.
Once there was an art student in the university who was also a painter. As I was walking through the university campus, I saw him painting. There was a small cassette player next to him playing music. I asked him very cautiously, “Why are you listening to this music?” He said, “Music makes the soul more delicate, and I am doing something delicate now. I want this delicacy to be conveyed.” He was right. I said, “If I suggest something, will you try it? Listen to the Qur’an for a while.” He said, “Qur’an?” I remember he said this in surprise. I answered, “Yes, see if it has the same effect.”
I went to that same college the next month. He came to me very upset! I asked myself, “What should I do now? It seems my suggestion wasn’t appropriate for him.” He was truly upset. He came forward and said angrily, “I’ve wasted my life! Why hadn’t I ever done this before? You don’t know what an impact this has had on me!” He was ahead of the one who had suggested this!
Use the Qur’an. Recite the Qur’an a lot. God, the Almighty, seriously intends to convince everyone who reads these verses that He is the first and last power in the universe. He wants to prove to you that He is a superpower, and actually He is the only power.
Say, “This is a favor from my Lord.” [Qur’an 27:40]

People allow themselves to give up their good mood very easily. It’s as if a good mood is an asset that isn’t valued very much. If you tell them, “You’re ruining your mood,” they’ll say, “It’s my mood. I want to ruin it. What does it have to do with you?” What’s happened that we easily allow ourselves to give up our good mood? What’s happened that we don’t care about gaining a good mood?
One should stop his/her bad mood. One should avoid it as something dangerous. One shouldn’t wait for the cause of the bad mood to be eliminated. One shouldn’t wait for there to be a cause for a good mood for him to feel good. One shouldn’t sit around waiting for external realities in his surroundings to change in order to feel good. Despite all the internal and external causes for a bad mood, one should oppose a bad mood. Human beings are able to do this. Despite all the factors that cause a person to be in a bad mood, whether they are within him or in his environment, one must gain a good mood.
Becoming used to being in a bad mood is worse than anything else is. Eventually one cannot distance himself from being in a bad mood. There are times when God wants to fix a person’s mood by preparing his environment. But the person looks for factors that ruin his mood again. This has been proven in physiological psychology too. A person’s brain performs some functions. If he gets used to these functions, for example, if he gets used to having negative thoughts and sorrows then lets his mind be free, since it’s easier for the brain to do repetitive actions, it will repeat the same negative thoughts again. It will only have negative thoughts and sorrows. A person’s physiological structure will become such that he cannot make himself feel good anymore. His brain has become used to it. A person’s brain cannot easily be fixed through surgery!
Sometimes psychiatrists are forced to give pills to such a person. If they can, they will disable some parts of a person’s brain [with pills] so that this person can be freed. It’s not in his own hands. He can’t be fixed with words because his brain has become used to feeling bad. One who gets used to being in a bad mood cannot easily understand that he is feeling bad. He will say, “This is normal. Others are the same.” He even thinks like this about others. One very important point is that one should not talk about his bad mood with others. This is very surprising. If one feels bad, he shouldn’t tell others. Talking about your problems, especially if it’s one’s bad mood, is very bad. Conversely, one should talk about his good mood. [For example, say,] “This is a favor from my Lord.” [Qur’an 27:40] One should thank God and state His blessings.
Expressing our bad mood ruins the mood of others too. It will make it easy for others to be in a bad mood. It removes the ugliness of being in a bad mood. When one is talking about his bad mood, even if he is sick and has a physical illness, it seems God dislikes this action. It is said in the traditions that if an ill person tolerates pain throughout the night but doesn’t let others hear his cries, God will reward him greatly! This is even though the ill person has a right to complain. “My foot, stomach or tooth hurts.” This pain makes a person restless. But they have said it’s better to not show this. We should be careful of our mood. We need a good mood more than we think. One should stop his/her bad mood. One should avoid it as something dangerous.
When they recite the Call to Prayer…
When the Call to Prayer is recited, is it recited for everyone? When the Call to prayer is recited, doesn’t God look at each person and his situation? Does He announce the praying time for everyone in general? Or, is each person’s Call to Prayer separate?
God recites the Call to Prayer for each person individually. He looks at you and says, “Wait. Let Me see what he or she is busy doing?” Suddenly He says, “Recite the Call to Prayer. Right now! He has to get up right now! He should leave what he’s doing right now.” The time of each person’s Call to Prayer is different from others. He considers you and says, “Wait. Let me see. Let him become very busy doing this action. Now, recite the Call to Prayer. He has to stop and come to pray.” The time of each person’s Call to Prayer is different from others. “But sir, we hear the Call to Prayer being recited at the same time for everyone!” This is in appearances. Don’t be deceived by appearances.
The God of the Universe has designed this Call to Prayer, which is for everyone, for each person separately. It is accidentally at the same time for everyone! “I recite the Call to Prayer for each person separately. Let Me see. Aha! Now, now, now, now! Recite the Call to Prayer right now to see if he leaves what he’s doing?!” See, separately. “But God, we see that all the Call to Prayers are recited at one time.”
God replies, “This is in appearances. I know how to manage people’s lives so that when I recite the Call to Prayer for each person individually, all of them can be heard at the same time.” Therefore, when they recite the Call to Prayer, say, “God wanted me to leave this mood, what I am doing, and this situation!” These are plans, which God knows how to design. God is very professional.
The time of each person’s Call to Prayer is different from others. Therefore, when they recite the Call to Prayer, say, “God wanted me to leave this mood, what I am doing, and this situation!”

A suggestion for this year’s month of Muharram
We don’t want to miss Muharram.
Friends, about forty days are left until the month of Muharram. Whoever can, try to recite 40 “Ashura Supplications” during these remaining days only for this request that, “God, don’t take away the prevalence of mourning ceremonies for Husayn (‘a) from us this year, and don’t allow these diseases and obstacles to be an obstacle.”
Let’s consider invoking Aba Abdillah al-Husayn (‘a) by reciting the Ashura Supplication to be a necessary action for ourselves. “O Aba Abdillah, I come nearer and seek greater intimacy with Allah, with His Apostle, with the Commander of the Faithful, with Fatimah, with Hasan and with you, with the help of your love and patronage.” [Ashura Supplication] O Imam! You take my hand and join me to all the Household (‘a).
O God, for the sake of Imam Husayn (‘a). If You want, I ask You for the sake of Ali Asghar, [the infant child] of Aba Abdillah al-Husayn; if You want, I ask You for the sake of the severed hands of Aba al-Fazl al-Abbas. Don’t make Muharram this year to be like the month of Ramadan [without gatherings]. Ask for this! Your plea is effective in the world. People will ask, “Why are they crying and invoking [Husayn] for 40 days with the Ashura Supplication?” Others will answer, “They want Husayn’s mourning ceremonies.” If they tell you, “Each one of you can go into a corner and cry,” reply, “It’s not Fatimiah! Ashura should be with a commotion.”
Imam Khomeini said, “Each school of thought needs a commotion. You should beat your chests for it. No school of thought will be formed unless people beat their chests, cry and grieve for it.” About 40 days are left until Muharram. Whoever can, recite 40 “Ashura Supplications” during these days.
The Mutton Soup Test
Live with the active God!
Have you ever lived with God? With an active God! I don’t mean a God Whom many think is like a holy shrine to go to whenever you want. If you don’t go to the shrine, the shrine won’t come after you. God isn’t like this. You are living with God. We want an active God. God without testing is a passive God, One Whom you can’t live with. Live with God. See Him! He is working with you each moment. The relationships between people are all tests. All friendships and enmities are tests.
“The Mutton Soup Test!”
“Let’s look at your morning to see how it was.” “This morning someone invited me to go and have Mutton Soup together. Where was the test in this?” “It was this part that someone invited you, you went and had Mutton Soup and you didn’t think of going to the religious gathering before going for the Mutton Soup. Then, you had the opportunity to use the energy you got from this Mutton Soup. Use it in a religious gathering!” “This opportunity just came up itself!” “Are you supposed to eat whatever comes up for you?” “Huh! Shouldn’t I?!” “You should look at anything that comes up as being a test. So, you had Mutton Soup with your friend. Then you asked him, ‘Which gathering are you going to?’ He replied, ‘I haven’t had time to go to the religious gatherings yet.’”
God says, “Eat your Mutton soup,” and thinks, “He gets offended at anything I say! You shouldn’t have gone for the Mutton Soup in the first place.” “Ok, I made a mistake. But, the rest wasn’t a test. I was immersed in this mistake.” “No, you made a second mistake! The next part was your second test.”
Friends, definitely pay attention. “This was your test. Why didn’t you tell him, ‘Let’s go to the religious gathering,’ and then take him?” “God, I’m sorry…! Can I find fault with You?!” “Go ahead…” “God, if I hadn’t made a mistake, hadn’t gone to eat Mutton Soup, and had gone to the religious gathering, who would have taken this second test?” God says, “I would have found some crazy guy like you to test him. Don’t worry about that. That’s nothing to do with you. But, you continued with the Mutton Soup. He was being friendly, ‘One more.’ You saw these opportunities don’t come up that often...”
God doesn’t give you a blessing for you to rest so that He can bring a tribulation for you to suffer. Rather, He gives you a blessing to test you and see what you do. He doesn’t bring a tribulation for you to suffer to reward you in the next world. He brings tribulations to test you. Because, one can be tested in tribulations. Everything is in God’s presence. See this every second. At least see that everything is in God’s presence. You think revelation is needed to understand this? Everything is a test.

Do you know how important it is to say, “I’m Your small one” in prayer? What’s the meaning of “Allahu Akbar”? It means, “I’m Your small one. You’re greater. I’m Your small one.” Some say, “It hasn’t been written that Allahu Akbar means, ‘I’m Your small one’”! I say, “It’s not written?! So you’re not small before God? You’re ‘greater’ and He’s ‘greater’ too?! He’s ‘greater’ means you’re small. Now you’re getting ready to bow and prostrate. ‘I’m Your small one.’”
Lady Zahra (as) said, “The philosophy behind prayer is to eliminate arrogance.” O Great One, I’m your small one. If you can feel your smallness, you can even say it in a nicer way. I’m Your small one.
Have you seen how children hold their parent’s hand when they are outside? Do they hold their hand mostly because they don’t want to fall down and are holding on to it as a cane? Or do they emotionally enjoy holding their hand? Answer me. If a child was able to talk and you asked him, “Why do you want your mom or dad to hug you? Do your legs get tired?” what would he say?
He would say, “I enjoy it when he/she hugs me.” Psychologists say, “The most active feeling in children is the feeling of dependence on his/her mother.”
You adults, you’re God’s small ones too! Say, “O God, hug me.” Start such a conversation and enjoy it. Do you know how important it is to say, “I’m Your small one” in prayer? It is enough if you recite all the sentences of prayer with your tongue only. But you should show, “I’m Your small one” with your entire body. You should go to the ground, prostrate and show your smallness.
[One says,] “Without showing this physically, I’ll say I’m small.” No, no, no! You should prostrate to show with all your being that you’re small. [This person says,] “I will stand and say, ‘God, I’m your small one with all my being.’” No, it’s not accepted. Show it with all your being. Just saying it is not enough, because announcing, “I’m Your small one” is very important. Which people don’t enjoy praying? Arrogant people. Which people enjoy it? God Himself says in the Qur’an, “Humble people.”
Do you know how important it is to say, “I’m Your small one” in prayer? It is enough if you recite all the sentences of prayer with your tongue only. But you should show, “I’m Your small one” with your entire body. Say, “O God, hug me.” Start such a conversation and enjoy it.
For which of Imam Mahdi’s (‘aj) followers have you made sacrifices?
About a tradition from the Prophet (s) related in, Kafi, vol. 2, p. 247; and Navadar, Ravandi, p. 8.
The Household of the Prophet (‘a), the Manifestation of God’s Kindness
One of the other ways to understand, believe in, and taste God’s Kindness are the Household of the Prophet (‘a). A tradition says, “God divided kindness into 100 parts. He gave one part to the people. A mother’s kindness for her child, the love between a husband and wife, the kindness of a father towards his child, and the kindness of a child towards his father are all in this one part. He gave 99 parts of it to the Household of the Prophet (‘a).”
This means no matter how much the kindest mother loves her child, she is unable to understand the kindness of her Imam. I mean the kindest mother who has ultimate kindness and the highest degree of kindness towards her children. Now this should increase 99 times more, which is impossible, in order to understand the kindness of an Imam towards his nation.
You don’t dare to talk badly about a child in front of his or her mother. She’ll hold a grudge against you for at least 100 years. Now, if you talk badly about a follower and friend of the Household of the Prophet (‘a), how will they react with you? A tradition says, “Whoever finds a weak point or something against one of our friends, hides and keeps it in order to use it later when needed, has left from being under our Guardianship.” Imam Reza (‘a) said, “I’ve obliged myself to curse such a person every day.” This is very serious. Such a person will be completely ruined.
When we say that the Household of the Prophet (‘a) are kind, you too should be careful about (how you behave to) each other. Imam Baqir (‘a) narrated from Imam Sadiq (‘a), “I swear to God that I love your smells and your souls. We become sick when you become sick. We become happy when you become happy. We become sad when you become sad. But, our God loves you even more.”
This is very interesting. It is very hard to imagine. The Household of the Prophet (‘a) are the manifestation of God’s Kindness. If we understand their kindness, we’ll become kind with each other. If we understand the Household of the Prophet’s (‘a) kindness, which is easier to understand, we’ll understand God’s Kindness too. Then, our relationship with God will become beautiful.

There is a prerequisite to piety, or being vigilant, and that is a person knowing he is valuable. We say, “Be vigilant. Be vigilant so that nothing will harm you.” “Harm what? Is there something there?” “Yes! You! Your dear being.”
We need to have a course for students about the greatness of a human being’s existence. Or we can have a workshop about it. I don’t know. Something that will help them understand their value. If they don’t understand their value, what do they want to be careful of? The result will be that they won’t have piety.
Imagine someone having a bar of gold. Imagine a father telling his son, “You see, this is all we have! I have sold whatever we had and bought this gold bar. Take this to my cousin or to the bank.” The child will carry the gold bar very carefully even if his parents don’t advise him to do so. But when there isn’t anything valuable in his bag, he’ll play with his bag and even throw it on the ground several times.
Piety means being vigilant. What’s the foundation of this? Being valuable. Educators and teachers must have a plan for this. “What should I do so that when a child enters school, he’ll understand that he’s valuable?” Maybe a teacher should plan to stand up when students enter for them to understand they’re valuable. We must have a plan for teaching this and do something.
Which children become bad? The children whose parents have humiliated them very much and they haven’t had a good first seven years. How should the first seven years be? Children should be like a king with two servants. Who are their servants? Their parents. That’s interesting! Then how should children be trained during the following years? They should be filled with love. Then they themselves will say, “I want to receive orders.” They should be filled with the feeling that they were a king.
Is it possible to select who enters our elementary school? Yes. How can we select? What’s the criteria? We should see how their parents have behaved with them during the first seven years. If the child has understood his own value, accept him into your school. He has the capacity to receive training. But if he hasn’t understood his own value yet, he needs a special course first.
For example, he should go to a pre-school where these lacks are removed from him. During that period before elementary school, you should make the child understand, “You are very dear and honorable. Even if your parents haven’t been able to make you understand this, I will help you to understand this. Your parents love you, but they haven’t been able to show it. If they’ve shouted at you, for example, don’t be upset about it.” So we must help the child first, and they shouldn’t enter school feeling that way.
There is a prerequisite to piety, or being vigilant, and that is a person knowing he is valuable. We say, “Be vigilant. Be vigilant so that nothing will harm you.” “Harm what? Is there something there?” “Yes! You! Your dear being.”
