Visit Aba Abdillah’s (as) shrine whenever you can.

At times, things come to our minds that are good, divine inspirations. We’re sure they’re good and not bad. Right? Pay attention to them and they’ll become clearer. You’ll gradually hear. Do not ignore or disrespect any good inspiration that comes to your mind.
If someone reminds you of God, be passive and let it affect you. Let it be to your benefit. Don’t turn away or push it aside. God works with you in your mind. God exists. You’ll gradually hear. Some people experience false, foolish inspirations. They say, “Maybe it was an inspiration. I was inspired to kill you!” I say, “How foolish! An inspiration is never like this!” I’m talking about good inspirations that you’re sure are good. You prayed and read recommended supplications too. It comes to your mind to read one more. Don’t say no to it. Read it. What is another example of these inspirations that come to one’s mind and heart?
You suddenly wish to make a pilgrimage. You should go. Maybe Imam Husayn (as) is calling you. You suddenly wish for Aba Abdillah al-Husayn (as). Or you’re driving in a desert and you remember Imam Husayn (as). Stop. Get out of the car. Find the direction. Put your hand on your chest while facing the shrine of Aba Abdillah al-Husayn (as). Any way you like, say three times, “Sallalahu Alayka Ya Aba Abdillah [peace be upon you O Aba Abdillah].”
Or it occurs to you to visit Imam Reza’s (as) shrine. Go! You say, “That’s far away. I’ll go to Abdulazim’s (as) shrine [,which is closer].” Go! Don’t ignore it. Maybe something [spiritual] is destined for you to go and receive. Or it occurs to you to go to the shrine of Lady Masumah (as). Go! Maybe there is something there for you. If remembering God comes to the mind of a believer, he accepts it.
If something comes to a believer’s mind, he should not reject it. One such inspiration is visiting the shrine of Aba Abdillah (as) whenever one can.

Sincerity changes the natural destinies that come to a person. Many calamities won’t happen to a sincere person. A man came to Imam Hadi (as). He said, “They say to not go on trips on certain days and to go on other certain days. There are some recommendations. Which days are good for a trip; which days aren’t?” The Imam (as) told him, “If a person is of our Shi’a and is sincere to us, if he goes to the depths of the sea, he won’t be harmed. If he goes into the desert among wild animals, he won’t be harmed. If enemies from among the Jinn and men surround him, he won’t be harmed. «لَأَمِنُوا مِنْ مَخَاوِفِهِمْ بِوَلاَيَتِهِمْ لَنَا» He will be safe because of our Guardianship. So trust in God. «وَ أَخْلِصْ فِي اَلْوَلاَءِ بِأَئِمَّتِكَ» And be sincere in accepting the Guardianship of the Household of the Prophet (as).«وَ تَوَجَّهْ حَيْثُ شِئْتَ وَ اِقْصِدْ مَا شِئْتَ.» Then go on a trip whenever and wherever you want.”
Won’t a sincere person pass away? Yes, he will. But do you know why General Soleimani could go into the middle of dangers? Why wasn’t he harmed and he could get the work done? The whole world was trying to stop him from being successful, but he was successful. And he wasn’t concerned about them. You know he used to walk on top of an embankment. [He would be told,] “Please come down! The sharpshooters are looking for you!” “There is no danger. Let me go. They can’t do anything.” And he was right.
Friends, if one works sincerely, many calamities won’t come to him. Of course some calamities will come to him, but they are both sweet and sour! Can you accept the Imam’s words? If you are sincere and go into the middle of danger, you won’t be harmed. [One asks,] “So there won’t be any calamities?” Yes, there will be, but those calamities are different from these. Those calamities bring blessings with them. They are different!
For example, if your body is aching due to an accident, won’t this be different from when you get a firm massage? If you are in an accident, you may be crushed. But if you get a firm massage, you’ll pay the person too. The calamities that happen for sincere people are like a firm massage. Don’t be afraid. Calamities won’t come to a sincere person. The Imam (as) has said this.
“So what about the problems that come up?” Aha, you’re talking about the problems that the believers face? That’s like a small, firm massage. It’s good. Actually, it’s better if it hurts at times too. You don’t need to become completely sincere like Ayatollah Bahjat all at once. That’s impossible. [If you tell yourself,] “I want to be sincere from today,” that’s very hard.
Do this instead. Do small, good deeds sincerely and only because of God. Very small deeds. Just for fun! For example, you have a bad desire. Don’t pursue it because of God. God is very precise. Have you seen how precise He is?! God sees you have done a small, good deed because of Him, or you haven’t committed a sin because of Him. Friends, you’ll see the effect. A small, good deed because of God.
Sincerity changes the natural destinies that come to a person.

Our Hidden Dragon

It is difficult for a person to understand what tendencies he has. The human heart is very complicated. What do you do with your hidden tendencies? Your outlook, how you look at things, and your viewpoint expose your hidden interests. Your opinions show the goodness and badness in your heart.
Horqos bin Zuheir said, “O Prophet of God, in my opinion you are not just.” The Prophet (s) looked at him and said, “Later, you will give even more criminal opinions.” “Oh! Really?! This way a person is censoring himself! Are you against people giving their opinion?” “Who said we are against giving opinions? Be comfortable.” “Won’t this society become dictatorial?” “When most people think correctly, it won’t be a dictatorship.” “Do nonsensible people understand that their opinions are nonsensible?”
“Yes, Abu Jahl understood. He was told, ‘Abdullah’s orphan child says he is a prophet.’ He answered, ‘He doesn’t lie. He must be a prophet that he is saying so.’” How wise! But, we call him Abu Jahl (the father of ignorance)! Imam Ali (a) told a person, “Come fight in the Jamal war. Talha and Zubeir have revolted. Am I not the Caliph of the believers?” The man said, “Yes, but they are Muslims too.” The Imam (a) said, “They are Muslims working against Islam.” He said, “Can we fight against other Muslims?” The Imam (a) said, “So it is.” He wanted to leave, but Malik Ashtar started debating with them. The Imam (a) said, “Don’t debate with them. Let’s go.” This is his opinion. Where does this opinion come from??
“This person’s opinion is this. That person’s opinion is that.” “Are you serious?!” “They should discuss logically to come to a conclusion.” What are you saying?! This is springing from his unclean spirit. This is not a logical discussion or a logical argument. If you tell him forever (for example), “blow this mosquito away,” he will say, “Huh?! How can I blow it away? Can it be blown away?!” Because he sees the mosquito as an elephant, and he is unwilling to discuss it with you. This is his point of view, which is based on his tendencies.
Your point of view exposes your hidden interests. Your opinions show the goodness and badness in your heart. Give your opinion for me to see what is going on in your heart.

Don’t compare yourself with others. There are weak and strong people among God’s servants. People’s capacities are different. Thus, I swear I’m afraid of [insulting] even the sinners. We have to respect them too. What should I say?
What can we do if God forgives them and so they go faster than us? [God says,] “Even though you’ve put much effort, stay behind the door for now.” We shouldn’t compare at all.
Then people ask, “We shouldn’t discourage others from evil?” Discourage from evil softly. If he didn’t listen, don’t think he’s a sinner and you’re good. Maybe he is actually better than you. Don’t mix these things together. Don’t compare yourself with anyone. Don’t compare yourself with the one whom you’re discouraging from evil. Even if he sinned, don’t say, “I only sin half as much as he does!” Maybe God will punish you for sinning half as much. But if he sins ten times more, God won’t punish him.
On the Day of Judgment, you’ll see some surprising scenes. God willing we will go and see. God will punish some people for some sins, while others have committed ten times more sins. God tells those people, “It’s fine; go. I’ve forgiven you. Go.” We’ll be surprised! You say, “God, I only did one percent of these wrong deeds. But you’re telling these people that it’s fine and they may go! And you’re punishing me?!”
Then God tells you, “I didn’t give him much wisdom. I didn’t give him a high capacity for spirituality and faith. What does this have to do with you?! I expected him to the extent of his own abilities. He fulfilled 50% of it, and I forgave the other 50%. But do you know how much I granted you, you nasty person, and how much I gave you?!”

For God’s sake, no one should compare himself with others. What can we do if God forgives them and so they go faster than us? We shouldn’t compare at all.

“Friends, stop this unappealing gathering.

This gathering is unappealing without the beloved
who is the center of this gathering.” [A poem]

I have come because of you.

O Ibn al-Hasan, this whole Arbaeen gathering is meaningless without your presence.

O Ibn al-Hasan, which path will you be walking on?

We have come because of you.

Is it possible with all the recommendations that exist to join the walk
for the pilgrimage to Karbala that Imam Mahdi himself won’t walk there?

When you are walking, search for Mahdi (aj), the son of Fatimah,
in the Mawkibs. In which Mawkib will the Imam rest?

O Imam, which Mawkib will you go in?

O Imam, what time will you start out?

In this crowd, when will my shoulder bump into your shoulder?

“This gathering is unappealing without the beloved who is the center of this gathering.”

We have come because of you.

Recite "Chapter Hamd” in Prayer!

A tradition says, “When a servant stands up to pray, if his desires and heart are with God (while praying) - meaning that he keeps his mind on this and finishes his prayer in that way - he will become pure like the day he was born from his mother.”
Recite “Chapter Hamd” in prayer. Is it possible to pray and not recite Chapter Hamd? It means recite Chapter Hamd in prayer with attentiveness. You’ll be reborn. “All praise belongs to God, Lord of the Universe, the Beneficent, the Merciful.” (Qur’an 1:1-2) Whenever I say “the Beneficent, the Merciful,” I think, “See. It said ‘the Beneficent, the Merciful’ a moment ago. Now, again it’s saying, ‘the Beneficent, the Merciful.’”
“In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. All praise belongs to God, Lord of the Universe, the Beneficent, the Merciful.” God, You insist very much that I see Your Mercy. Why do You say, “Look at My Mercy” this much?”
“and Master of the Day of Judgment.” “The Beneficent, the Merciful (is the) Master of the Day of Judgment.” So, don’t be afraid. God, I’ve said, “The Beneficent, the Merciful (is the) Master of the Day of Judgment.” Now, will You punish me there? You Yourself said to say, ““The Beneficent, the Merciful (is the) Master of the Day of Judgment.”
“(Lord), You alone we do worship.” God says, “I only help the one who seeks assistance from Me.” “And from You alone we do seek assistance.” God says, “Ok, I have to help you since you said, ‘Only You.’”
“(Lord), guide us to … the path of those to whom You have granted blessings,” the path of Ali (‘a) to whom You have given so many blessings. “… those who are neither subject to Your anger...”
It is as if “Chapter Hamd” is reciting a eulogy. Similarly, when people who usually go to religious eulogies go to Hajj, they have a lot to say and they do the circumambulation beautifully. Especially when these people do the walking between “Safa” and “Marwah”, they really enjoy it. They walk where Hajar walked and read eulogies (in poems), “When did my Ali Asghar start talking?!” They say this as they walk and cry. Such people know what to say. Others don’t know what to say. Others say, “Which supplication should we recite now?”
But, these people read eulogies even when reciting Chapter Hamd. God has said this Himself in this chapter. “…those who are neither subject to Your anger…” Don’t take me on the path of the murderers of Imam Husayn with whom You are angry. Don’t take me on the path of those who slapped the face of Hazrat Fatimah Zahra (‘a). You hate them. Separate me from them.
This is the high point of the “Kumayl Supplication” too. The high point of the Kumayl Supplication is where it says, “Do You want to put me in the same place with Your enemies.” Even if I tolerate Your torment, how can I tolerate them?!
“…those who are neither subject to Your anger…” is the peak of the Kumayl Supplication. The supplication first moans because of the torment, then it says, “Fine. If I tolerate this, how can I tolerate that?”
I ask God that you can pray with attentiveness.

Do you have problems? Don’t come to Arbaeen!

We should pay attention to what God is expecting in these calm and quiet tests. Some of the tests are with a great commotion, and they clarify our duty. Some of the tests are very quiet. A person may be deceived and suddenly lose opportunities.
In many cases, the tests for reaching to the highest degrees of closeness to God, are very delicate and quiet. The people of Kufa said, “What should we do now? What will happen? We can’t leave Imam Husayn (‘a) alone. We invited him ourselves. Let’s wait until he comes.” Then they realized that Imam Husayn (‘a) won’t come. Hurr and his troops had stopped them. And Ubaydullah was preparing an army.
They were thinking about what to do. People like Sulayman bin Surad were thinking. Then suddenly what happened? They brought the pure heads into the city. They blamed themselves, “We didn’t know such a tragedy would come about!”
Thousands of people formed the Tawwabin (repenters) uprising. All of them knew that they were going to be killed, and they were killed. There was no use for what they did in history, and they didn’t gain the advantage of being in Karbala or Ashura either.
What? You expected Imam Husayn (‘a) to pass through Hurr’s blockade himself, come into the city of Kufa, nock on your doors one by one, and say, “Come help me. They want to cut my head off. If you don’t come, this and that will happen.” What explanation did you expect from Imam Husayn (‘a) for you to come?
Believe me, Arbaeen is one of the quiet tests. Some of the tests are very quiet. A person may be deceived and suddenly lose opportunities. Believe me, Arbaeen is one of the quiet tests. Arbaeen seems noisy, but it’s also quiet, because one might think, “Is it obligatory for me to struggle for Arbaeen?” I don’t know. What should I say? During these analyses, some lose this great opportunity. During these analyses, some lost the opportunity of helping Husayn (‘a).
But, there was one person sitting in Imam Husayn’s ('a) meeting on the night before Ashura. People informed him, “The cursed Ubaydullah has arrested your son.” Being arrested at that time meant being executed. They had to rescue him somehow. Imam Husayn (‘a) looked at the father and said, “Go save your son. I don’t want you to be here when you have this problem.”
The Imam gave him some money and supplies and said, “Use these to gain your son's freedom.” If you have problems, don’t come to Arbaeen. If you were in Imam Husayn’s ('a) tent on the night of Ashura, he would have said, “Go fix your problems.” Even if you were there on the night of Ashura!
What did that father do? He looked at AliAkbar, the Imam’s son, and at the Imam (‘a). He said, “Your young son is going to be martyred here tomorrow. Now I should go after my own son? May my son be sacrificed for your son!” He started pleading, “Don’t drive me out of your tent because of this. I don’t want to go after my problems. I want to be for you!” He pleaded so much that the Imam (‘a) said, “Fine, stay.”
The tests are not always noisy or clear in clarifying our duties! Some opportunities come and go quickly like lightning. Some opportunities don’t shake you and say, “Wake up. Get up. Move!” They don’t seize you by the collar. A person asks, “I have some jobs to do. There is Arbaeen too. I don’t know if I should leave my work, or not.”
I say, “I don’t know. What should I say?!” I tell them I don’t know. If it was Imam Husayn (‘a), he would say, “Go, for sure. Go do your work my dear.” How much did you want to spend for Arbaeen? And you say you’re waiting for your Imam (‘a.j.) to reappear for you to rescue the world with him?! You didn’t spend that much for the dignity of Aba Abdillah al-Husayn’s (‘s) gathering in Karbala in the Arbaeen meeting place. You are waiting for the Imam (‘a.j.) to come for you to give your life? We consider Arbaeen to be a quiet test.

High School Husbands!

The Quran states, “…mates from your own selves that you may take comfort in them…” “and He ordained affection and mercy between you.” God introduced three very important functions in this verse.
What does affection mean? The difference between love and affection is that affection is expressed with words. Love is transmitted with a look. It has been written this way in the dictionary. A tradition says that it is more emphasized that a man should express love to a woman than a woman to a man.
One time a person came to Imam Sadiq (‘a) and said, “My wife bothers me.” The Imam (‘a) said, “You don’t tell your wife ‘I love you’ very much. Tell her.” If you go into the kitchen and wash all the dishes, it is not equal to saying one time, “I love you.”
Someone said, “All of the things that I do, making money, and working hard are because I love her. I don’t need to say it.” This man is comparing a woman with himself. A man doesn’t need a woman to tell him that she loves him very much. But, the opposite is true.
The Holy Prophet of Islam (s) said, “If a man tell his wife one time ‘I love you,’ this will stay in her heart till the end of her life.” It means that she won’t forget it. Have you seen some men say, “We said it one time. It is enough.” Because they see it has been so effective. No, each time it is said, its effect is something else.
Affection means this love should be expressed. I don’t want to create an argument between you, but some men have been raised in a house where their father hasn’t expressed his love to their mother. So, they don’t know how to do it. These men should take a course. The best coaches are their wives. They should teach these men little by little with the methods that they know.
The woman should say at different times, “One of my beautiful memories is the day that you told me, ‘I love you.’” When she says this, the man will gradually understand that, “Oh, this is very important for my wife.” Some married men have kept their high school way of thinking.
During high school, a person needs a friend. He likes his friend to be something like himself. Then when he wants to marry, he thinks he wants another friend. But, this time his friend shouldn’t have a beard and a moustache! It should be someone from the opposite sex.
No, a woman is different from a man, and we have to understand this. These men should take a course. The best coaches are their wives. They should teach these men little by little with the methods that they know. The woman should say several times, “One of my beautiful memories is the day that you told me, ‘I love you.’” When she says this, the man will gradually understand that, “Oh, this is very important for my wife.”

The Root of Why People Feel Lonely

We human beings are generally lonely creatures. This feeling of loneliness ruins a person’s mood. The feeling of loneliness causes a person to become suspicious about his environment and world, and think that there really isn’t anyone to support him. When people feel this loneliness, they even become enemies with others. They say, “When everyone is unkind to me, I’ll be the same way too. No one has mercy on me. I’ll be the same way too.”
Friends, let’s accept our loneliness in this world. This loneliness can be felt when entering the grave. Suddenly a person sees that he is truly alone in this world. This loneliness can be understood deeply in some difficulties. We are always alone. This feeling comes for some people close to their death.
Satan brings the most pressure close to people’s death to make them unbelievers. When a person feels his loneliness, Satan says, “See, God didn’t help you either. God won’t take your hand either. See! Become an unbeliever for me to help you.” This has been said in a tradition. And, some people become an unbeliever exactly then. They believed in God until that time. But when they feel that peak of loneliness, the pressure of loneliness is so high that they deny God too.
When a person is left alone lonely, if you tell him, “Pay attention to God. God is kind to you,” it is very hard for him to accept it. He will become suspicious about God too. It is possible that he will become an unbeliever about God. How can we explain to these people, “This loneliness that you feel in this world doesn’t mean that no one loves you. There is God!”
A person is alone and has no one in this world. This doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have God. This means that he ONLY has God.
