[0:28]alhamdulillah respected brothers and sisters sisters and brothers and all the creatures
[0:56]of Allah subhana wa ta'ala however you would like to be addressed
[1:01]may Allah sub accept your Deeds your prayers your fasts tonight will
[1:08]be my final night with you and it's been a wonderful experience
[1:13]to see the Believers over here to be able to sit down
[1:17]with you and Converse even though mostly it was a monologue but
[1:20]even the individuals I was able to speak with after the lecture
[1:26]alhamdulillah it's good to be together in one group as a one
[1:34]Community Allah subhana T in the Quran emphasizes the need to be
[1:39]bonded together as Believers it's not good to isolate yourself yes we
[1:45]have our differences we might not get along with one another all
[1:49]the time but that shouldn't be an excuse for us to reject
[1:52]each other at the end of the day we're all holding on
[1:57]to the Rope of Faith the Rope of Allah believing in God
[2:03]believing in his messenger you might differ with another person you might
[2:15]have but you also are connected to that individual so always try
[2:24]to maintain a relationship with those who are believers like you when
[2:29]we we were what we were taught by the society and the
[2:36]imams were a minority at that time the Shia the followers of
[2:40]were a minority for the most part and they were asked by
[2:48]their companions because they believed that they were following the righteous path
[2:52]the companions believe that we are following the we're on the righteous
[3:00]path and therefore we don't have to connect with those who are
[3:05]around us the teachings we have from the imams is the opposite
[3:10]of this whenever they had a companion that used to seclude themselves
[3:14]from their society even from those who are followers of even those
[3:20]who were following the imams and their teachings they divided the followers
[3:25]into different groups some people thought that they believed in the spiritual
[3:30]powers of the imams and whoever doesn't believe in that theyd reject
[3:34]them they don't deal with them anybody who doesn't believe that the
[3:40]imams have Divine knowledge they would reject them not every follower of
[3:48]the IM believes in these things on this deep level so the
[3:51]imams became aware of this and they used to tell their [Music]
[3:56]followers that not everything that you know someone else has to necessarily
[4:03]be able to know people are of different levels in this world
[4:07]we have different capacities not everyone carries the same amount of intellect
[4:11]as the other person not everyone has the same access to information
[4:15]as knowledge as the other person people are affected by how they
[4:21]were raised as well in terms of what they receive with with
[4:25]knowledge so the world that we live in now we notice this
[4:30]being a drastic problem we live in a world where people have
[4:36]many different opinions the problem is that we reject these other people
[4:42]for having different opinions a lot of times when I see Threads
[4:46]Online where people post something and someone comments about the you know
[4:52]giving a different opinion aggression starts to build up very quickly just
[4:57]because that person has a different opinion and then they remove that
[5:05]person they unfriend them they block them and then they go to
[5:08]their timeline and they start posting over there screenshots look at what
[5:12]this person was saying and then they start looking for support from
[5:18]the people that are in their own Circle and bubble well this
[5:20]is not the right way to deal with our differences we have
[5:24]to be more compassionate more loving more caring for one another maybe
[5:29]that person reached that level of understanding due to incorrect premises incorrect
[5:35]introductions they were given wrong data wrong information just like you reached
[5:42]the conclusion they also reach the conclusion who is to say that
[5:46]you are the right one all the time yes there is a
[5:48]right and there is a wrong but that other person might believe
[5:53]that what they believe in is right but they reach the conclusion
[5:56]in a wrong way as someone who's a believer who has been
[6:02]given knowledge if you believe you're the true you're on the true
[6:08]path then with knowledge comes responsibility as well because in the Islamic
[6:12]understanding the more knowledge a person has the more elevated they are
[6:17]existentially you're on a higher level the more knowledge you acquire the
[6:23]more your soul begins to expand the more your soul expands the
[6:27]more awareness you have the stronger ability you have to understand the
[6:33]details you start thinking more sharply your soul becomes stronger and this
[6:41]is why it's very recommended for a Muslim to always seek knowledge
[6:46]because knowledge is connected to the soul and with the soul you're
[6:48]able to see truth and reality so if you're someone who believes
[6:53]in Allah subhah wa ta'ala and have acquired a certain amount of
[6:57]knowledge you were able to reach the truth at some point other
[7:02]people might not have been exposed to the same thing that you
[7:05]have so someone who has more knowledge responsibility comes with that that
[7:13]that knowledge is to be passed on and to be passed on
[7:17]in the correct way not in a wrong way if you're more
[7:20]knowledgeable and someone's misguided you go and you guide that individual the
[7:26]method of guidance is also very important there's a very famous principle
[7:32]in Islam called enjoining good and forbidding evil a lot of people
[7:42]love this because they think that they can use this to go
[7:44]and police people around to boss them around they see someone doing
[7:50]something wrong they go criticize them and yell at them and they
[7:53]think Allah subhana T is pleased by my behavior why because I'm
[7:55]stopping corruption from happening I'm criticizing the evil but they don't understand
[8:03]that there are conditions for this to be applied not everybody is
[8:06]allowed to enjoin good and forbid evil the method of doing it
[8:12]is very important if you say something thinking you're guiding somebody or
[8:21]criticizing them for doing something wrong and you say it the wrong
[8:24]way and you push them more towards doing it because now they
[8:27]have a negative understanding of them or they build a negative feeling
[8:32]towards it because of the way you've said it then you're responsible
[8:36]for their misguidance don't think that you're allowed to criticize somebody freely
[8:39]like that if they're doing Haram you don't have the right to
[8:45]go and yell at them or to insult them or to put
[8:46]them down you don't have the right to do that your right
[8:50]is to act with compassion and mercy if you think that you
[8:58]advise them and that advice will help them because some people are
[9:01]at a point in their life where they they just can't listen
[9:04]to advice they don't want anyone to tell them what to do
[9:08]they have a deeper problem than what you're seeing on the surface
[9:12]the surface level problem is just a symptom of a deeper issue
[9:16]that they have so don't think you can just go to people
[9:19]and tell them stop doing this and stop saying that and stop
[9:23]behaving like this this is Haram and this is wrong and you're
[9:25]going to go to hell this is not right you have to
[9:30]use a lenient method and sometimes you're not supposed to advise at
[9:35]all the only time you're allowed to advise advise someone is if
[9:38]you believe that your advice is going to have a positive effect
[9:44]on the individual that's one of the conditions of if there's a
[9:50]possibility that what you say to them is going to push them
[9:53]away from their religion then you're not allowed to say anything to
[10:00]them it's Haram and if you push them away you're going to
[10:02]be responsible for the sins that they commit so you have to
[10:09]be wary the more knowledge you receive the more humble you're supposed
[10:14]to be anybody who reads the letter of IMI to when he
[10:18]placed him as a governor over Egypt he sent him a very
[10:25]famous letter what he emphasized now that you are gaining power and
[10:30]you have authority over people now you have to be more merciful
[10:37]towards them you have to be more overlooking for of their mistakes
[10:41]you don't become stricter when you become a governor you don't become
[10:45]someone with authority and therefore now you have the the right to
[10:49]go and oppress other people in the name of doing good no
[10:54]you're supposed to become more merciful more forgiving similarly the individual who
[10:58]becomes a Believer get going to get close to Allah subhah wa
[11:05]ta'ala that mercy and that love and that compassion has to reflect
[11:09]in your heart even more and more and more this is why
[11:14]our when they elevate spiritually you find that they begin to cry
[11:18]more their heart becomes more tender it doesn't become stiff if you
[11:25]see someone who is getting closer to religion and their heart is
[11:28]becoming stiffer then understand that they're getting closer to their ego and
[11:32]not towards Allah subhah wa ta'ala because Allah subhana T is the
[11:37]most knowledgeable being the most knowledgeable makes him the most forgiving the
[11:41]most compassionate the most loving and as this is what we have
[11:48]to elevate ourselves to the more knowledge we gain the more Mercy
[11:55]we're supposed to have to other people and we live in a
[11:57]time where a lot of people are confused they're bombarded with information
[12:05]every single day this opinion that opinion this is right that's wrong
[12:09]it's not clear it's very ambiguous you go to the have different
[12:15]opinions where do you go to it's very difficult to acquire proper
[12:21]knowledge so this should tell us that we shouldn't be so judgmental
[12:27]when it comes to other people's opinions when it comes to voting
[12:32]in this country and politics some people belong to this group and
[12:36]other people belong to that group and they talk to each other
[12:38]like they're enemies well a lot of people on the other side
[12:43]they lack the information that you have you grow up being taught
[12:48]that oppression is a bad thing that Justice is a good thing
[12:52]and you have a special connection to certain lands you understand something
[12:59]that the other side doesn't understand so when you speak to them
[13:04]you shouldn't speak in a way that expects them to have the
[13:08]same information and that same passion that you have they grew up
[13:11]with a whole different mindset they were taught different things so anytime
[13:16]you have a debate you have a discussion especially here with people
[13:19]who are non-muslims that belong to other denominations always keep in mind
[13:25]that they don't have access to the information that you have try
[13:30]to teach them Act Like Loving individuals Saka was a Greek philosopher
[13:39]and he was sent a letter One Time by by one of
[13:46]his relatives asking him about the issue of differences between people and
[13:50]it causing anger and senica was a stoic he was asked to
[14:00]give this spiritual advice this ethical advice based on the stoic mentality
[14:04]or philosophy how do I deal with the issue of anger now
[14:09]of course stoics they're a bit on the extreme side when it
[14:12]comes to the uh Vice of anger they're a bit extreme Saka
[14:17]for example was someone who believed that anger should be eliminated completely
[14:21]our they're more in line with the artian ethics which says that
[14:27]Anor has to be balanced you have to find a balance you
[14:30]don't completely eliminate anger because anger is necessary sometimes if somebody comes
[14:36]to attack your house and to Rob your house if you don't
[14:39]have any anger you're just going to sit down and watch that
[14:43]Thief come and Rob it you need that anger to get you
[14:45]up like what are you doing you can't rob my house if
[14:51]you're completely stoic and now stoicism is becoming a thing everybody's reading
[14:55]about it and I've seen a lot of memes about stoicism of
[14:58]course they take you on the a very surface level it's a
[15:01]very deep philosophy and it's very interesting to read about but eliminating
[15:05]anger completely from your life is going to eliminate the ability to
[15:08]defend herself you don't want to become someone who's completely passive but
[15:13]anyways that's not what what I'm trying to say from his letter
[15:16]in his letter he says something that's very beautiful he advises this
[15:21]individual that asked him how do I deal with anger he says
[15:24]you who knows who has knowledge of what's right and what's wrong
[15:31]you have to behave like a doctor with their patients if there's
[15:34]a patient who's suffering from Pain and this pain is making them
[15:41]scream at the doctor yell at the doctor what does the doctor
[15:44]do punch them yell yell back at them say oh yeah you're
[15:51]yelling at me watch what I'm going to inject in your body
[15:54]is that is that what they're supposed to do of course not
[16:00]a doctor should have passion should have an understanding he knows that
[16:04]this patient is yelling because they're suffering from a pain that they
[16:07]have in their body if their pain wasn't there there wouldn't be
[16:11]yelling sometimes people are yelling even without their pain but most likely
[16:15]this pain is coming from that this yelling is coming from that
[16:20]pain that they're suffering from you knowing that they are yelling because
[16:25]of the pain that they're suffering from makes you responsible to be
[16:28]compassionate toward towards them why because you're above them in this level
[16:32]you're more aware you know that if the pain is not there
[16:36]they wouldn't be yelling and it's justifiable for someone to be in
[16:41]pain who is in pain to be yelling they don't mean to
[16:42]be yelling at you so a lot of people have frustrations they
[16:47]have pain in their lives they've been mistreated as children they've been
[16:52]mistreated by other people they've been rejected in society they've been Outcast
[16:56]they've been gone they've gone through bullying in schools over here and
[17:00]they grow up with a very rebellious voice they want to reject
[17:06]everyone's opinion they always want to stand out somebody might be like
[17:09]that it's your responsibility to speak to people according to their level
[17:16]of intellect and according to their capacity of existence and as a
[17:21]m Allah subhana T says you are above other people why because
[17:25]you have this awareness of Allah subhah wa ta'ala not everybody can
[17:29]have this awareness this awareness requires an elevation in spirit and soul
[17:33]so if you're elevated you have more awareness when you're dealing with
[17:39]other people you have to deal with them with compassion and mercy
[17:42]if that person knew what I know maybe they would have behaved
[17:46]differently so instead of criticizing them and yelling at them let me
[17:51]teach them let me try to take their hand and guide them
[17:56]towards what I know and that requires a lot of patience requires
[18:00]a lot of understanding so when you have someone who differs with
[18:05]you in an opinion on the one hand you're responsible to try
[18:09]to guide them towards your path in the best way possible and
[18:12]on the other hand it's a test for you to test the
[18:18]level of your faith Allah subhana T in the Quran when he
[18:22]talks about the prophet he tell he says that if you were
[18:34]someone who was harsh and your heart was stiff then people would
[18:38]have escaped from around you but the prophet because of his leniency
[18:43]in speech he wouldn't raise his voice at people people came with
[18:50]him criticizing him criticizing him yelling at him throwing stones at him
[18:55]doing everything they can to put him down yet the prophet dealt
[18:58]with all of them with mercy and love because he was a
[19:01]messenger he was a guide he looked at people as these sick
[19:07]individuals they have diseases they have ills and the prophet was a
[19:12]doctor this is why the IM beautifully describes the prophet he says
[19:17]what he was a doctor specific like a very beautiful example he
[19:26]had the medicine and he used to go around around to sick
[19:32]people spiritually ill and he would give each one a prescription to
[19:36]try to help them now the doctor can only do so much
[19:41]they give you the prescription now it's your job to take the
[19:43]medicine to take care of yourself right and the same thing as
[19:50]Believers we don't have to force people to adopt our opinions and
[19:53]if they don't we feel bad for them may Allah subhana show
[20:01]you the path so we have to be more patient with each
[20:04]other we have to be more caring and when I see online
[20:08]you know what's what's happening nowadays this idea of immediately canceling people
[20:14]and rejecting them because of differences in opinion it creates a very
[20:19]egotistic ailment inside of ourselves because it say you're basically what you're
[20:26]saying is that I have the full truth and whoever doesn't agree
[20:29]with me is in complete falsehood you're not even entertaining the possibility
[20:36]of you being wrong why do you have the full truth who
[20:39]are you are you a prophet that Allah subhana T sent Gabriel
[20:43]to you and he never told us no the fact that we
[20:51]are not infallible should always humble us because we might be wrong
[20:55]in what we're saying there's a lot that we don't know so
[20:58]try to be be patient with one another try to have discussions
[21:02]respectfully with one another yes some opinions are very very you know
[21:08]you think they're very stupid right like I'm I'm not going to
[21:13]say this is a stupid opinion but according to some people if
[21:16]you believe that the Earth is round that's very stupid right and
[21:22]the other side I said it the opposite way the other side
[21:28]says whoever believes that the Earth is flat as stupid but this
[21:33]is a serious discussion there's websites there's people thinkers YouTube videos a
[21:40]lot of hours have been put to prove whether this theory is
[21:44]right or that theory is right you might think it's an ID
[21:48]he's an idiot the one that believes the Earth is flat like
[21:50]you you just have to go on Google Maps and and figure
[21:53]out that the Earth is round right well apparently not because all
[21:56]these people went on Google Maps and didn't figure that out so
[21:59]you might think that they're there there's something wrong with their brains
[22:04]not necessarily they might have been basing their opinion on something else
[22:11]that they believe in it's ingrained in their minds this conspiracy that
[22:15]these are all trying to trick us right so what do we
[22:19]do with these people do we make fun of them do we
[22:22]criticize them do we say you're going to hell no you can
[22:26]have a discussion with them this is our proof and this is
[22:31]your proof and that's it it ends over there we can continue
[22:33]living with one another you don't have to start creating neighborhoods this
[22:37]neighborhood for flat earthers and this neighborhood for round earthers and start
[22:42]separating yourself now this is a small example but there are many
[22:47]many other examples in terms of religion people differ in terms of
[22:50]their this is a syani this is a shi this is a
[22:54]this is this this is that what's the problem if every person
[22:58]follows their own even if they have a different opinion we can
[23:03]live with one another this is a matter that we're trying to
[23:06]get closer to Allah subhana wa ta'ala with just like I expect
[23:12]the other person to respect my opinion and my conclusion I should
[23:15]respect their opinion and their conclusion as well muham when you go
[23:32]to the house in Iran you find that there are many many
[23:35]different Scholars there for every discussion you find those scholar that adopts
[23:43]a different opinion some Scholars like philosophy others believe the philosophers are
[23:49]going to hell they have a special place in Hell the philosophers
[23:52]God has preserved an area for the philosopher just for them that's
[23:57]how bad they are some people believe in some say spirituality mysticism
[24:04]is the best path others believe that mysticism was taken from India
[24:09]and other countries and these people are not even Muslims you have
[24:14]so many different opinions in the and if this tells us anything
[24:17]it tells us that the possibilities of knowledge are so many if
[24:21]our are differing in this and they can coexist and live with
[24:26]one another then why should we be the ones who are judged
[24:28]in each other and rejecting each other on this on this basis
[24:32]when it comes to the we have to understand that we have
[24:37]to respect other people even if they believe in a different Med
[24:40]even if they follow in a different Med it's not a problem
[24:43]to go back to the Hadith of the IM the IM says
[24:47]that there are some of you who have knowledge that others don't
[24:50]have and this is a very closed Circle because not most people
[24:56]go towards this deeper knowledge and greater understanding not everybody does most
[25:00]people are okay with the superficial knowledge some people they go deeper
[25:05]they seek deeper knowledge so this is the the smallest Circle if
[25:12]you expand that the Imam says there are those who don't know
[25:19]what you know and they are followers of they're lovers of B
[25:23]you carry respect towards those individuals you marry them you live with
[25:27]them you visit them when they're sick you ask about them you
[25:31]you you you um coexist with them and then there's a larger
[25:36]Circle those who love the imams but don't follow them the Imam
[25:42]says those are still good people you also live with them but
[25:46]they just have not been granted as much knowledge as you have
[25:51]been granted expand that you have the general Muslims that don't follow
[25:55]and the companions used to ask the imams what do we do
[26:00]these individuals and the imams used to tell them you visit their
[26:03]dead you visit their sick you go and walk in their funerals
[26:06]you live with them they're Muslims at the end of the day
[26:10]and us living here in America we expand the circle even more
[26:16]there are those who are non-muslims we're responsible as individuals to coexist
[26:22]with them to speak to them to reach out to them to
[26:25]live with them normally like human beings one issue that we have
[26:32]here in Dearborn is that we're really closed up in a way
[26:34]in one sense it's very beautiful because it creates a strong bond
[26:39]in our community we have our own identity over here and it's
[26:42]very beautiful that we have this chance to exist like this but
[26:46]just because of that it comes with a negative side as well
[26:51]we don't learn how to deal with people who are outside of
[26:56]the circle here so in one sense we appreciate the blessing that
[26:59]we have in the other sense we should be able to open
[27:04]up and speak with others one issue is the converts that we
[27:08]have these are people that convert to Islam and they don't feel
[27:15]like they belong to a society this is a problem a lot
[27:17]of converts complain about this they come to a Masjid they come
[27:22]to a center and they feel they're not accepted over there because
[27:25]people are usually gravitating towards people that are more they're more familiar
[27:29]with if they're from the Lebanese Community they're more with them with
[27:32]those people from the Iraqi Community they're more with those people and
[27:36]the conference don't find the place in these communities and centers a
[27:41]lot of conference feel alienated they're not accepted why because culturally they
[27:47]don't behave the same way so as a community it's our responsibility
[27:51]to bring these people in to care more about them if we're
[27:57]unable to do that it shows that we're in closed in our
[27:59]own bubble and this is a problem we shouldn't be limiting ourselves
[28:04]to our culture only a person who is a Muslim deals with
[28:11]everybody around them on the basis of Allah subhah wa ta'ala not
[28:13]on the basis of their culture and their background and it's a
[28:18]very sad reality when we see this because a lot of people
[28:20]have converted they come and they complain to me and they end
[28:26]up creating their own circles outside of the general Muslim Society the
[28:31]convert group The convert Circle why because they don't feel that they're
[28:36]being accepted by the Muslims so being a Muslim you have to
[28:41]be loving towards other people you have to be inviting and you
[28:43]have to transcend the limitations of yourself living in the world that
[28:49]we are in right now it's a challenge for all of us
[28:51]every one of us is going through their own issues yes the
[28:56]problems are many the diseases are many the spirit spiritual issues are
[28:59]many the mental health issues are many living here together on this
[29:06]Earth we share this land together in this very very vast Universe
[29:09]the least we can do is to love each other and to
[29:14]care for each other if you see someone else suffering reach out
[29:18]to them try to help them because you can feel their pain
[29:23]as well you suffer like them you know that this is a
[29:25]challenge for all of us so the issue of compassion and love
[29:29]should be spread more and more instead of going the other direction
[29:33]where we're more selfish we're more egocentric if you see any believer
[29:39]criticizing someone else you tell them to calm down to treat them
[29:46]well to not use this kind of language towards them to not
[29:51]push them away if everybody does that we all live in a
[29:56]better Society but every time we have different is I don't want
[30:01]to talk to people anymore I wish I could never see anybody
[30:03]we seclude ourselves and this is not healthy because now it's you
[30:09]and yourself and it creates more problems for you so as individuals
[30:14]who live in the society here and we're in the month of
[30:17]Shah Ramadan this is a wonderful opportunity for us to reach out
[30:23]to those who we have wronged in our lives try to change
[30:25]yourself during this month try to reach out to people that maybe
[30:30]you haven't reached out to before think of people that you know
[30:33]in your life that you haven't talked to in a while give
[30:35]them a call ask about them sometimes a person's going through a
[30:41]very big challenge if they receive one call from you and you
[30:45]ask about them that will change their whole state to the better
[30:49]try to do something like that if you were in a dispute
[30:55]with a Believer be forgiving this month because you want Allah subhana
[30:59]wa tala to forgive you for your sins for all the mistakes
[31:03]that you've done and we've all done many mistakes if we want
[31:07]Allah subhana T to forgive us then we have to be forgiving
[31:09]towards other people use this month to amend the differences and the
[31:15]problems that you have with others call someone and say look we
[31:19]ended on a bad note we said things that were inappropriate to
[31:24]each other I want to apologize on my behalf I want want
[31:29]to put this behind us and we can start a new page
[31:32]forgiveness is very important compassion is very important whenever you deal with
[31:38]somebody always keep in your mind how do I want them to
[31:44]deal with me and based on that you deal with them and
[31:46]even better equation how do I I want Allah subhana wa tala
[31:51]to deal with me how would Allah behave in this situation and
[31:55]you imitate Allah subhana ta'ala so knowledge gives us that responsibility we're
[32:02]supposed to acquire more knowledge and the more knowledge we acquire the
[32:06]more responsibility we have towards other people the closer we are to
[32:10]Allah subhana wa ta'ala the more responsibility we have towards others just
[32:14]because you're a Believer doesn't mean you have the right to see
[32:20]yourself as above others in an arrogant way no you become more
[32:23]loving and caring for others these were just some final words that
[32:26]I wanted to say saying that community that we live in it's
[32:31]a beautiful Community beautiful Believers wonderful individuals full of passion full of
[32:37]great potential and each and every one of you is on a
[32:42]journey in this world Allah subhana T created us and we all
[32:44]share a similar Human Experience here we came to this earth we
[32:50]were born here and we're on a journey together let us live
[32:52]together with Harmony let us live together with love and care and
[32:57]remove the grudge that we have this is Shan who tries to
[33:01]get involved in each and every person's life to make us live
[33:03]miserably if we can be more loving and compassionate and merciful towards
[33:10]each other everybody collectively will be living a better life I ask
[33:14]Allah subhana wa tala to grant us this mercy and this love
[33:19]and this compassion that is required for us to be able to
[33:22]get closer to him and to be more forgiving and loving m
