[0:00]the love of lady zainab another loud salah so my dear brothers
[0:11]and sisters the focus of our discussion this evening is to examine
[0:15]the role of lady zainab salaam after the tragedy of karbala all
[0:21]of us are familiar to an extent with the role that she
[0:27]carried and how instrumental she was in preserving the legacy of imam
[0:32]hussein in tonight's discussion we'll focus on two very important roles that
[0:43]ladies and gentlemen number one is her defense for the imam of
[0:49]her time and how can we take this lesson today and implement
[0:53]it with the imam of our time secondly how lady zainab teaches
[1:02]us to combine courage and strength with chastity and what takeaway point
[1:06]can we all learn from especially the sisters before we do so
[1:12]i'd like to ask you a question why is it that imam
[1:17]hussain alaihissalam took his family his woman the children the woman of
[1:24]the family of the prophet to such a treacherous journey you wouldn't
[1:28]do that right imagine if you are a responsible father a family
[1:34]figure the head of a family and you're going on this dangerous
[1:38]journey why do you take children with you why do you take
[1:43]the woman with you and we know imam hussain al-islam is an
[1:46]infallible imam who acts by the guidance of allah subhanahu ta'ala so
[1:52]why did he take his family with him any thoughts sisters yes
[2:00]so they had a role to play allah wanted them to be
[2:05]there yes imam hussain's half-brother muhammad ibn hanafiya he had a half
[2:09]brother by the name of muhammad he stayed back in medina he
[2:14]did not go to karbala and he told imam hussain al-islam that
[2:18]this journey that you're embarking on is very dangerous the imam told
[2:25]him that you know it's my responsibility to go to karbala he
[2:29]told them okay that i understand why are you taking the woman
[2:33]the imam al-islam gave him that response that this is the will
[2:39]of god allah wants them to be there this is the will
[2:46]of allah that they should be there so sister what was that
[2:50]role in a few words basically imam hussain al-islam knew that he
[3:01]along with his companions would be massacred right so who would stay
[3:05]to tell the world what happened in karbala who would expose yazid
[3:11]and those tyrants the women and the children you know the stories
[3:14]that we have from the battle of karbala they're narrated by three
[3:20]main sources we have them from these three main sources one of
[3:24]them is journalists and reporters who attended there yes there were general
[3:30]journalists back then for instance hamid muslim you'll hear his name frequently
[3:36]mentioned in the maktals hamid muslim attended karbala and he saw everything
[3:42]but he did not go there to fight in fact he had
[3:46]an encounter with one of the daughters of imam hussein she told
[3:49]him are you with us or against us he said i'm neither
[3:53]with you or against you i'm just here observing hameed ibn muslim
[3:56]attended karbala just to document the events he would go and report
[4:01]what happened he was a journalist by today's standards so some of
[4:05]the information of what happened in karbala we take from who from
[4:12]those reporters who were there like hamid even muslim that's one source
[4:16]another source is the imams of albeit later imams of ahlil bay
[4:21]to have divine knowledge they told us about some events that happened
[4:25]in karbala whether it was imam jaina who were there they were
[4:33]eyewitnesses or later imams like with the knowledge of the unseen that
[4:37]allah had given him he would tell us about some events that
[4:40]happened in karbala that's the second source what's the third source the
[4:47]woman and the children the woman and the children actually informed the
[4:52]world what happened in karbala the umayyads wanted to censor everything that
[4:58]happened in karbala they didn't want people to know what happened so
[5:02]the woman and the children actually exposed them this was one reason
[5:07]why imam hussain alaihis took his family and children of course the
[5:11]other reason is he wanted to demonstrate that he's not rising for
[5:16]power or he did not have a personal agenda when you take
[5:19]your family you're sincere you're not pursuing power because if you are
[5:22]you wouldn't you wouldn't put your own family at risk so this
[5:26]was one very important reason why the imam took them and lady
[5:30]zainab salam beautifully demonstrates to us how this role was executed how
[5:36]she was the mouthpiece for the campaign of imam hussain she was
[5:41]basically the spokesperson and this leads us into our discussion tonight how
[5:47]lady zainab alaihissalam defended the imam of her time and what lesson
[5:53]we can draw from that after imam hussain islam was martyred who
[5:58]was the next imam imam lady zainab defended al-imam zayn al-abidin in
[6:08]two ways one of them one of the ways by which he
[6:15]defended the imam al-islam was physically coming to his defense instance there
[6:22]were two times when ali imam zainal abedin al-isram was almost killed
[6:27]she's the one who protected him the first one was in karbala
[6:31]right after the martyrdom of imam hussain when they burned the tents
[6:35]they sent they set them to fire shimmer was looking for imam
[6:43]zayn rahab so he entered the tent of alimony he was extremely
[6:47]ill lying on the ground there was a sheet that the imam
[6:51]was sleeping on shimmer comes and he violently pulls the sheet from
[6:56]under the imam and the imam is struggling with a sickness then
[7:02]he attacked takes out his sword and he's about to kill him
[7:06]when lady zainab salam sees that she rushes and she basically throws
[7:13]herself on al-imam zlinder abdi she tells him you have no right
[7:19]to kill him and you'll kill me before you kill him there
[7:23]was commotion the men got involved shiva what are you doing are
[7:25]you trying to kill a woman here this doesn't look good for
[7:31]us and basically he retreated see how lady zayn about islam physically
[7:34]tried to defend the imam of her time putting her own life
[7:40]at risk that was the first time one was the second time
[7:43]anyone remembers from the stories that happened after karbala yes brother we're
[7:52]talking about now imam abedin this is after post martyrdom of imam
[7:59]hussain anyone remembers so the second time is in kufa when she
[8:03]was in kufa in the courtyard of ibn ziyad the evil governor
[8:14]of kufa we find that ibn ziyad was not aware that imam
[8:18]zinil abedin was alive he didn't know that he was told that
[8:25]was killed now when he was told that which ali ibn al-hussein
[8:29]was being mentioned there ali akbar so when he met the family
[8:36]of imam hussain al-islam and he saw imam abedin he asked him
[8:42]who are you i wasn't expecting you know a young man to
[8:47]be here the imam al-salam told him he told him but hussain
[8:55]was killed by god look at it look at the words that
[9:00]he would use but i thought but i thought god killed ali
[9:04]ibn hussein imam zayn al-abidin responded he said i had a brother
[9:07]by the name of ali the people killed him ibn ziyad insisted
[9:16]on his very aggressive approach and he said no god killed him
[9:22]so imam said cited this verse in the holy quran allah is
[9:32]the one who takes the souls yes if he if he died
[9:36]he died by the will of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala the people
[9:40]killed him but allah because he has a system of trials he
[9:44]allowed that to happen so when the imam cited this verse ibn
[9:47]ziyad became very angry and he told him how dare you reply
[9:54]to me and challenge me like that so he took out his
[9:58]sword and he wanted to kill al-imam this was the second time
[10:04]over here we find lady zainab salaam also rushing to save the
[10:10]imam she stood between them and she told them you have no
[10:12]right to kill him you kill me before you kill him and
[10:17]so she avoided that situation see how lady zainab salaam this woman
[10:22]who's lost her entire family her brothers her sons nephews cousins yet
[10:30]she has so much strength and she would put her life for
[10:37]the imam of her time this was the first way by which
[10:41]ladies and gentlemen defended the imam over time the second way the
[10:45]second way is really interesting my dear brothers and sisters yazid ibn
[10:50]ziyad had made an order that if anyone from the family of
[10:55]imam hussain would step up to leadership to imam to continue that
[11:02]imam a legacy kill him so they were monitoring imam zindal and
[11:07]subhanallah it was the plan of god to have him fall ill
[11:15]that way he could not have an active leadership role because if
[11:20]he had that role they would have killed him so imam zayn
[11:24]al-abadi islam for a long time after karbala he was very low
[11:30]key low profile so who would then educate the people teach the
[11:36]people deliver the message of islam to the people who was it
[11:45]ladies and this beautiful hadith gives us a window to understand her
[11:52]role at the time of the minor occultation when imam was now
[11:58]the imam and now he was in imam al-manji was now about
[12:03]seven years old because he was five years old when his father
[12:05]was martyred so now we're talking about the leadership of mahdi at
[12:14]age seven people could no longer see him physically except a few
[12:20]some of the high ranking shia companions they started to have doubts
[12:28]who's my imam in this era so in the year 262 of
[12:34]the hijra imam ahmed was born which year of the hijrah 255
[12:39]so he was seven this man this companion he says i went
[12:51]to see lady hakeem who's lady hakeem the daughter of which imam
[12:57]imam al-jawad al-islam she is the daughter of al-imam al-jawad ali so
[13:02]she is the aunt of the imam the great aunt of imam
[13:06]al-mahdi he says i went to visit lady hakeem and i asked
[13:13]her a question who's who's my imam in this era who do
[13:16]i have to follow so she said the son of al-hassan he's
[13:21]the imam i told her do you see him have you seen
[13:26]him how do you know he's the imam she said no right
[13:31]now he's an occultation no one really is seeing him but we
[13:35]have authentic reports from the imams that we should follow him from
[13:39]the previous imams from imam and ask then he asked this interesting
[13:46]question he says okay fine i understand that so right now who's
[13:50]the source of guidance if i need to go and ask a
[13:51]question from someone who do i go to who's god's proof right
[13:57]now she tells this man the scholar she tells him abhi muhammad
[14:06]the grandmother of al-imam al-mahdi the mother of imam alaska she was
[14:12]alive and she has been appointed to be the link between the
[14:18]mahdi and his community this is before we have the four ambassadors
[14:23]and they have an official role it was the grandmother of imam
[14:27]al-mahdi that was the source of guidance so now this man he
[14:31]kind of doesn't like what he heard you know he told her
[14:37]look he's absent i can't see him and now i have to
[14:41]go to a woman and she's the source of my religion you
[14:44]know understand the context of that society it was unusual they were
[14:49]patriarchal societies she told him yes that's the system of god he
[14:57]says but does this have a precedent she says yes there is
[15:03]a precedent he asked her where is that precedent lady hakim an
[15:07]islam tells this man she tells him the precedent is lady zainab
[15:10]after she actually stepped up to the leadership she became the source
[15:18]of guidance and any knowledge imam zayn al-abadi islam wanted to spread
[15:23]in his community in his society he would do so through lady
[15:30]zainab so they wouldn't kill him so remember that for a while
[15:35]after karbala al-imam al-islam would not openly publicly give a sermon except
[15:39]the one of course in the court of yazid but when he
[15:43]went back to medina he had a very low profile role if
[15:46]anyone had questions lady zainab would be asking but the imam is
[15:51]teaching her so the knowledge of ali hussein alaihissalam was now carried
[15:57]by lady zainab and she was educating the people on his behalf
[16:01]and the reason why she did that is to protect his life
[16:04]had the imam al-salam been active in the public sphere they would
[16:09]have killed him the maniumen see how ladies aina was how far
[16:15]she was willing to go for the sake of the imam of
[16:21]her time you know when when you think of the members of
[16:24]ahlil bait i know sometimes we have this impression that they're you
[16:29]know supernatural human beings but remember they are human beings they have
[16:33]the emotions that we have but it was their ability to use
[16:38]their emotions and powers for the sake of allah that makes them
[16:41]so great it's not easy to do that i'll tell you why
[16:44]look at your own families imagine an older aunt that you have
[16:47]or you know a great aunt that you have in your family
[16:51]like your dad's aunt your mom's aunt imagine in critical moments that
[17:00]aunt comes and she humbles herself for her nephew is it easy
[17:05]you have that age difference ladies and gentlemen is much older than
[17:09]imam and you have that rank difference too she's the daughter of
[17:15]imam ali lady fatima that's very prestigious is it easy for a
[17:22]person in that position to humble himself for another younger person in
[17:31]the family because that person commands the truth it's not easy most
[17:36]people fail in this test most people fail sometimes when you look
[17:42]at your position your rank you'd like to be followed not follow
[17:49]someone else but ladies submit it to the will of allah oh
[17:54]allah if he's the next imam i'll accept you see that submission
[17:59]that's something my dear brothers and sisters we all struggle with all
[18:05]of us struggle with that some of the uncles of the prophet
[18:10]like abu lahab one reason why he had difficulty following the prophet
[18:12]is he was much older than the prophet his his beard was
[18:19]white he's like 70 something the prophet's 40 something how is he
[18:24]going to follow his nephew he just couldn't he could not bring
[18:28]himself to follow and if the prophet was older than him maybe
[18:31]he would have accepted maybe it would have been much easier to
[18:38]accept one problem some companions had with imam ali is this age
[18:42]factor some of them were much older their beards were graying imam
[18:46]ali salaam was in his thirties when the prophet salallahu passed away
[18:50]they found it very difficult to go and follow who a young
[18:57]man i just can't you have to step on your ego to
[19:00]do that you have to show full submission to do that we
[19:05]find lady zainab standing up to the imam over time defending the
[19:10]imam over time sacrificing her life for the imam of her time
[19:14]even though he was younger now notice why when i gave you
[19:21]this example of defending the imam of your time i didn't mention
[19:24]imam hussain the brother here mentioned another example when she went to
[19:28]the battlefield trying to defend imam hussein see that's a given imam
[19:34]hussain is the master of the youth of paradise he's older than
[19:36]her he is her brother okay you can see how she can
[19:39]follow him right how she can defend him but when it comes
[19:42]to your nephew it's tough not anyone's willing to do that but
[19:46]ladies and gentlemen sacrificed for the sake of allah see that humbleness
[19:51]my dear brothers and sisters allah wants to be wants to see
[19:56]that humbleness in your heart something that's really tough for you to
[19:59]do allah will test you in that spot it could be a
[20:05]family situation maybe you have a younger sibling and you have to
[20:08]be the one to take the initiative to make peace to be
[20:15]on good terms could be another friend it's not easy and my
[20:19]dear brothers and sisters don't forget this in the future as you
[20:22]grow older inshallah you have your own families you become parents one
[20:26]day grandparents know that one way by which allah will try you
[20:30]is through this exact situation here you may be a parent but
[20:35]sometimes sometimes for the truth you may have to humble yourself before
[20:39]someone much younger than you or lower in rank can you do
[20:44]that or no the movement goes by the haqq where's the truth
[20:48]i'll follow it i don't care who what's their age what's their
[20:51]background what's their rank that's something we all struggle with but ladies
[20:58]and gentlemen beautifully executed this role she rose to the the defense
[21:03]of the imam of her time and today my dear brothers and
[21:07]sisters the takeaway point is that we have an imam of our
[21:12]time who continues the legacy of imam hussain you know one hadith
[21:19]states on the day of ashura after imam hussain alaihissalam was massacred
[21:25]the angels of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala broke into unprecedented crying and
[21:32]mourning and they basically asked allah subhanahu ta'ala how did this happen
[21:40]how did hussein get killed like that they they couldn't absorb what
[21:46]was happening because they know who imam hussain is in order to
[21:54]give them consolation what did allah show them the hadith states allah
[22:00]subhanahu ta'ala created a vision for the angels this is an authentic
[22:04]hadith and he showed them the imams who will come from the
[22:08]line of imam hussain so the nine imams who will be the
[22:11]descendants of imam hussain so they saw the vision of all the
[22:16]imams sitting down one of them was standing praying allah told them
[22:21]you see that vision you see one of them standing they said
[22:25]yes allah told them the one who's standing in arabic what do
[22:29]you call the one who's standing huh well waka is one word
[22:37]there's another word for it means the one who's standing that's one
[22:40]of the linguistic meanings allah told the angels do you see that
[22:46]amongst them i will seek revenge through him that gave the angels
[22:53]consolation that the legacy of imam hussain will continue and one day
[22:59]one day allah will avenge the death of imam hussain with that
[23:02]quran and that is continues the legacy of imam hussain and on
[23:12]the day of ashura when you have that you know you have
[23:16]these intense emotions and feelings in your heart i wish i was
[23:21]there in karbala to stand with imam hussain ala-salam you can today
[23:24]you have an imam of your time now my dear brothers and
[23:32]sisters how does imam al-mahdi seek revenge for what happened to imam
[23:38]hussain one of the names of al-imam is al-muntakim right have you
[23:42]heard that title and means the avenger the one who will seek
[23:47]revenge so a lot for the angels that he will avenge the
[23:50]killing of hussain how is that going to happen when we know
[23:55]the killers of imam hussain are long gone how is he going
[24:00]to avenge that any ideas yes creating justice can you elaborate how
[24:06]how is that a way of avenging the death of imam hussain
[24:11]yes you have the right idea we just like to expand on
[24:15]it what is it that imam hussain wanted to establish when he
[24:22]rose justice imam hussain clearly says i am rising for justice why
[24:27]did his enemies stop him because they had a problem with justice
[24:30]they don't want justice they were selfish we want everything for ourselves
[24:36]by killing imam hussain they thought that they will end that divine
[24:42]justice when he establishes global justice he is basically resurrecting the message
[24:51]of imam hussain continuing that justice and in doing so he took
[24:57]his revenge from the enemies of imam hussain by establishing justice it's
[25:02]a practical way of seeking revenge sometimes your enemy tries to stop
[25:07]you from something right what's the best revenge that you can take
[25:09]from your enemy to chase them and try to hurt them who
[25:13]cares what do you what are you going to get out of
[25:17]it what's the best revenge be successful right sometimes if there are
[25:21]people they're jealous of you they don't like you you have enemies
[25:26]they're trying to bring you down the best way for you to
[25:32]seek revenge from them is to stay focused and be successful that's
[25:36]the best way to seek revenge so that's one way by which
[25:40]allah will seek revenge from the killers of imam hussain so that's
[25:47]that's one way so the imam is the imam of our time
[25:53]if we want to learn one thing from lady zainab salam is
[25:55]to stand up for the imam of your time ask yourself today
[26:01]my dear brothers and sisters we have 24 hours a day i
[26:04]know we have a lot of activities and a lot of the
[26:08]activities are wonderful activities but what are you every single day dedicating
[26:14]to the imam of your time how are you defending the imam
[26:18]of your time how much do you know the imam of your
[26:21]time how connected are you to the imam of your time do
[26:27]you dedicate your daily activities and efforts to the imam of your
[26:31]time because the imam of time my dear brothers and sisters is
[26:36]key to success allah wants you to worship him through the imam
[26:40]of your time allah and suratul israel states on the day of
[26:47]judgement when allah subhanahu ta'ala will call you and resurrect you how
[26:51]will he do so what's the criteria there that will determine who
[26:57]you will be resurrected with the imam of your time clear verse
[27:01]in the holy quran allah will resurrect you based on your relationship
[27:05]with the imam of your time and this is an area that
[27:11]many people failed especially in karbala look at this example imam hussain
[27:15]alaihis is the imam let's look at his companions such as and
[27:25]look at the other side um the commander of yazid's army of
[27:30]ibiza's army what is the difference between omar ibn saad and habib
[27:37]what's the difference muslims they're both muslim they both said the shahada
[27:43]prayer they both prayed you know even prayed in karbala in fact
[27:49]in fact on the last day the 11th of muharram shortly before
[27:53]they departed he gathered all the dead from his side and he
[28:00]led his army in prayer salah the salah of the janazah and
[28:05]he buried his dead oh he practiced this part of sharia very
[28:08]good and he deliberately left imam hussain al-isram and his companions unburied
[28:14]for three days abram assad prayed he knew the quran some of
[28:19]them had memorized the quran so what's the difference between them and
[28:22]habib the imam of your time submitted to the imam of of
[28:36]his time and he was willing to give what he could have
[28:39]for the imam of his time um he did not recognize the
[28:43]imam of his time he did not obey the imam of his
[28:48]time and see their fate they have many things in common they're
[28:50]muslim they believe in the shahadah at least from the outside they
[28:54]would pray um had gone to hajj they've memorized the quran from
[29:00]the outside identical but there was one difference their commitment to the
[29:08]imam of their time that's what makes habib ibn different from others
[29:14]and that's what will make you today different from others how committed
[29:19]are you to the imam of your time how much do you
[29:23]even think of him how close are you to him how much
[29:27]do you talk to the imam of your time how much do
[29:29]you seek strength and inspiration from your iman you know subhanallah one
[29:34]of the best strategies my dear brothers and sisters to cope with
[29:38]any difficulty that you have in life is to stay close to
[29:42]the imam of your time regardless of what crisis you're going through
[29:46]health crisis family crisis financial crisis if you have that daily connection
[29:53]with your imam you talk to him you tell him i realize
[29:54]that i have an imam i feel safe with my imam i
[29:58]feel i have a support system i know allah has the entire
[30:03]universe at his disposal and you are the representative of god and
[30:07]i'm with you so what if i have a problem here and
[30:10]there so what when i have you oh my imam i feel
[30:14]safe how often do we feel safe with the imam of our
[30:18]time my dear brothers and sisters believe me some of us go
[30:22]for weeks and weeks not really remembering not genuinely remembering him not
[30:26]genuinely connecting to it and that's a very important lesson that we
[30:33]learned from lady zainab that's the first role of lady zainab her
[30:39]defense for the imam of her time the second role my dear
[30:45]brothers and sisters is the courage slash chastity of lady zainab in
[30:52]that society it was not that common for women to have an
[30:59]active leadership position and some people had the idea that if a
[31:02]woman steps up to the plate and she has a public role
[31:08]then that compromises her chastity modesty lady zainab salam shattered these misconceptions
[31:18]and she did so in kufa lady zainab gave a powerful sermon
[31:24]in kufa the narrator says the following about her the narrator says
[31:30]lady zainab the daughter of ali gave a powerful sermon a very
[31:33]eloquent sermon and then he says the following he says never have
[31:38]i seen a woman in my life who's so eloquent who's so
[31:42]courageous but at the same time has excessive haya like zainab bantali
[31:49]what's haya can someone translate hayat to us in english there is
[31:53]no term that captures what haya is but what is hayat those
[31:57]of you are who are familiar with arabic yes what humility well
[32:04]there is humility in hayat but not quite humility is is more
[32:12]like tawavo what's that humbleness but that's also tawava humbleness is when
[32:16]you're down to earth you're humble is something else what's haya yes
[32:21]modesty chastity shyness all of these combined is hayah when you have
[32:29]modesty and chastity and shyness you call this and it's also a
[32:35]type of appropriateness and politeness too see you need five english words
[32:40]to capture one arabic word i've not seen a term in english
[32:44]that fully captures what hayat means hayat means you know your limits
[32:48]you're appropriate you're polite you're shy you're modest and you're chaste all
[32:55]of that is chest as haya in arabic notice what this narrator
[33:02]observes observes about lady zainab he says never in my life have
[33:05]i seen a woman so eloquent so courageous but at the same
[33:14]time she has so much haya like zaina how did she combine
[33:18]these two that's amazing about lady zainab lady zainab teaches everyone that
[33:24]you can rise to the challenges and even for sisters they can
[33:29]stand up to the truth they can be active members of their
[33:35]society guiding others leading their communities but with with full chastity with
[33:41]full honor with full dignity with full modesty even there is that
[33:45]element of shyness some people think that this is a contradiction how
[33:49]can you be outgoing and courageous and kind of like shy at
[33:54]the same time but zainab did it she gave you that impression
[33:58]that she's the most modest person on earth but she's courageous and
[34:02]she's the most eloquent person that's a beautiful lesson my dear brothers
[34:06]and sisters that we can learn from lady zainab today today there
[34:11]are some people that are under the impression that if i have
[34:14]to be effective out there in society the hijab is a hindrance
[34:20]it's an obstacle in my way i've heard this a lot especially
[34:22]from sisters i can't be you know very successful out there in
[34:27]society because the hijab is going to hinder my progress the hijab
[34:33]is not going to allow my society to fully accept me and
[34:37]i can't be as effective ladies shatters this misconception no you can
[34:43]you can be courageous you can have your strong identity you can
[34:49]be confident you can be successful but you uphold the values of
[34:52]modesty the values of hijab the values of haya they go hand
[34:56]in hand together and she gives us that beautiful example yes it's
[35:02]not easy you have to sacrifice you'll face resistance a few times
[35:06]but in the end allah will support you here in the dearborn
[35:12]dearborn heights area we have for instance female judges in hijab do
[35:17]you know any in this area i'm sure you know some names
[35:21]how is that how did that happen a judge here in america
[35:26]with hijab yes of course be strong uphold your values be confident
[35:30]be qualified there will be some resistance here and there but eventually
[35:34]you'll make it but i've known many sisters and i've heard this
[35:39]from them and they have good intentions and no way am i
[35:45]judging them many of them because they had ambitions to be leaders
[35:50]in their community and to have these posts and positions they had
[35:54]to let go of their hijab because they just didn't think that
[35:59]they could achieve that while observing the hijab ladies teaches us no
[36:04]you can combine between them and so that's a beautiful description that
[36:09]this narrator gives final point my dear brothers and sisters that i'll
[36:16]conclude with is to take three segments from the speech of lady
[36:22]zainab and just to show you how much vision this lady has
[36:24]her speech in the courtyard of yazid some of you have heard
[36:29]the speech some of you have memorized the speech it's a beautiful
[36:32]powerful speech especially when you hear it in arabic the first important
[36:38]point that lady zainab al-isram makes in this speech she tells yazid
[36:46]look when you see that the world has come to you you
[36:48]have a kingdom you have all these blessings you have power and
[36:52]that we have been humiliated don't think that god is on your
[36:58]side and he's not on our side sometimes we human beings when
[37:02]we look at things we look at them from a worldly we
[37:08]look at them from the lens of quantity and that is a
[37:13]measure of success for most of us let's let's face it power
[37:19]money wealth fame recognition today today i'm i'm very honest with you
[37:24]today the political climate here in america is very disturbing look at
[37:29]how some people are talking about the presidency and some of the
[37:33]comments that they're making yes the proof that god is with us
[37:38]is that he brought so and so a person to power and
[37:40]he is the cyrus of the king cyrus of our time and
[37:43]you've heard some of these crazy comments here and there that's how
[37:48]people think people's brains and intellect are in their eyes when they
[37:52]see something glamorous and fascinating wow god must be on your side
[37:58]that's not how it works ladies and gentlemen don't think that just
[38:03]because you've achieved this materialistic victory that you've won no allah is
[38:09]actually destroying you and she cites the beautiful verse in the holy
[38:17]quran those people who've disbelieved who challenge allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that
[38:26]when we give them something that when we give them from the
[38:37]worldly treasures the worldly power the worldly resources that this is good
[38:43]for them no this will be a source of evil for them
[38:48]allah wants you o yazid to increase your sins so he'll destroy
[38:53]you stronger don't take that as a sign that oh allah is
[38:58]favoring me no no because you've showed so much evilness allah subhanallah
[39:03]wants to destroy you now when she said that she demoralized yazid
[39:08]because the people of sham had not heard this kind of mentality
[39:11]because the bini beni omaya how did they confirm their legitimacy in
[39:16]front of the people yes see yazid won the battle so god
[39:20]must be with him yazid has the caliphate he's got the money
[39:25]he's got the power he's got the fame but she turned it
[39:31]around against him and she proved to him from the quran that
[39:33]allah is destroying him that's number one number two she told him
[39:39]oh yazid now that you've won the battle you've taken us as
[39:43]prisoners of war don't consider this as a magnem it's a magram
[39:49]two beautiful words in arabic they rhyme and what's the difference between
[39:59]them means gain means loss garam have you heard like the word
[40:04]in arabic when you get fined or you lose something it's a
[40:09]fine it's a loss so magnum is again magaram is a liability
[40:17]it's a loss she tells him oh yazid just because you've materialistically
[40:24]gained don't consider that as a real gain soon in the ayakara
[40:27]you will see how this will become a liability for you my
[40:33]dear brothers and sisters if we just take this logic here and
[40:36]live by it we'll have different lives the world would be a
[40:39]better place believe me sometimes sometimes you know when you have a
[40:45]situation with a business partner family members friends you're in a position
[40:48]and we're all competing i'm vying and i'm competing for a position
[40:53]to get somewhere and sometimes you know we're not ethical in our
[40:57]approaches and we oppress others and we take away their right but
[41:02]we call this as they say in arabic have you heard people
[41:09]some people who maneuver around and they cheat and you know they
[41:16]even teach the devil how to cheat let's face it society sometimes
[41:20]praises such people they consider that as you know a source of
[41:23]power you know something nice that this person has lady zainab teaches
[41:28]you no no no that's not how it works you think it's
[41:32]a game but the person is just making his liability bigger and
[41:35]bigger and bigger because you have to face allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[41:40]with that the true you know being smart and savvy was to
[41:47]obey allah subhanahu wa it's to find ways to stay on the
[41:52]path of allah that's the real shattara not to cheat other people
[41:57]i remember there was an incident years ago with the family there
[42:01]was this inheritance situation when one of the brothers came up with
[42:06]it with an ingenious way to take the greatest share of inheritance
[42:11]for himself now he thought that this was again a success but
[42:17]no lady zainab teaches you it's a loss it's a big loss
[42:20]for you it's a big liability think of it this way and
[42:25]then finally lady zainab concludes that powerful sermon by telling him yazi
[42:30]today you have all these people behind you know that soon your
[42:36]number numbers will dwindle and dwindle and go down and our matter
[42:41]and path will keep increasing and becoming stronger and stronger and as
[42:47]the time goes by we the bait our message will get stronger
[42:51]and stronger and subhanallah my dear brothers and sisters look 14 centuries
[42:58]later look at the camp of um the camp of imam hussain
[43:02]imam al-hussein buried in karbala just look at the number of people
[43:09]who go visit him what are they benefiting is somebody passing out
[43:14]money there that they're going why are they going even even in
[43:19]this crisis right now the covet 19 where people are so scared
[43:23]to leave you saw millions of people just descend on kerbela now
[43:28]i'm not i'm not commenting on whether that should happen or not
[43:32]but there's just something special about imam hussain that attracts the people
[43:38]after the collapse of saddam and i'll conclude with this the new
[43:42]york times ran a very beautiful article about the visitors who were
[43:48]flocking to karbala especially from iran so the reporter over there he
[43:53]is talking about one american general who was talking to some iranian
[43:59]elderly people like an old man who could barely walk he saw
[44:04]him trying to cross the border because for a while there were
[44:08]no official borders between iran and it was like chaos after the
[44:11]collapse of saddam so people just had to go like through mountains
[44:15]and deserts to get into iraq it was even dangerous some people
[44:18]died in that route so the new york times says this american
[44:21]general stopped an elderly man who was exhausted he was thirsty and
[44:28]he gave him some water he told him what brings you here
[44:33]he told him i'm going to karbala he told him do you
[44:37]have family in karbala what's what's going on in karbala he's like
[44:41]no i'm visiting someone who are you visiting so he said i'm
[44:45]visiting imam hussain now this general has no idea what imam hussain
[44:49]is strange how they send these guys over there without even knowing
[44:53]the history of that place he had no clue what what's going
[44:57]on in karbala so i told him i'm visiting the grave of
[45:00]imam hussein so he told him like how is he related to
[45:04]you when did he die like did he is are they having
[45:06]a funeral for him is your cousin your brother all the way
[45:10]you came from iran you're traveling by foot you're putting your life
[45:15]to danger who's who's this person who just died is your brother
[45:18]your nephew he told him no this is our imam our inspiration
[45:24]he was martyred 14 centuries ago the general the american general told
[45:27]him you're telling me that you came all the way from your
[45:31]village walking on foot and you're like almost 80 years old and
[45:36]you almost died you're dying from thirst just to visit the shrine
[45:41]of someone who died 14 centuries ago how does that add up
[45:46]so he says the elderly man started to tell me about his
[45:49]love for imam hussain and why imam hussain is an inspiration see
[45:53]when lady zainab says as the days go by our matter will
[46:00]have more clarity more power and you can see how much vision
[46:04]ladies so my dear brothers and sisters were all indebted to the
[46:11]role of lady zayn thank allah for giving us such a leader
[46:14]and let's appreciate our leaders from the family of the prophet sallallahu
[46:22]alaihi who had to go through every type of pain and suffering
[46:24]so 14 centuries later we can sit and talk about our religion
[46:29]so we can know who god is what our prayer is what
[46:33]the quran is what it means to be strong what it means
[46:34]to be patience what the hijab means for us appreciate that lady
[46:42]zainab selflessly sacrificed everything in the way of allah and allah elevated
[46:48]and that's the best lesson for us be with allah allah will
[46:52]give the world to you on the day of ashura imam hussain
[46:57]gave everything he had in the way of allah everything there was
[46:59]nothing that he had on that day he didn't sacrifice it and
[47:03]allah gave him the world allah gave him everything my dear brothers
[47:07]and sisters if you look at the hadiths go look at communist
[47:10]one of our most authentic books about the ziyarahs and the virtues
[47:15]of imam hussein and just see how allah honored imam hussain even
[47:20]even the land of karbala the sahih hadith states on the day
[47:26]of judgment allah will resurrect the dust of karbala just because it
[47:30]contains the body of imam hussain allah will elevate it to paradise
[47:33]because allah created karbala from heaven and so it will go back
[47:39]to heaven and you know heaven has neighborhoods the most upscale neighborhood
[47:44]in heaven is karbala on the day of judgment keep that in
[47:48]mind allah has given everything to imam hussain allah created heaven from
[47:52]the noor of imam hussain according to our teachings from the imams
[47:57]of adebayt and it's simple don't be surprised oh is this an
[48:04]exaggeration he gave everything to allah on that day and allah is
[48:07]the most generous you give everything to allah allah will give you
[48:12]everything may allah bless you my dear brothers and sisters we ask
[48:16]allah to hasten the reappearance of our master al-imam and foreign
