[0:14]muhammad respected brothers and sisters in the next few days we will
[0:42]be beginning one of the holiest months in the islamic lunar calendar
[0:48]and that is the month of rajab the month of rajab it
[0:57]is considered to be one of the al-haram one of the sacred
[1:01]months where even before islam before rasulallah it was considered the haram
[1:11]months the and during these months it was haram to fight even
[1:17]the non-muslims they would not fight during this month and rajab is
[1:23]one of those holy months rajab is also the beginning of the
[1:27]spiritual season the season of spirituality the season of connection with allah
[1:32]subhanahu wa ta'ala because we have the month of rajab and then
[1:37]after the month of shaban and then the month of ramadan a
[1:42]lot of people in the month of ramadan begins they say i
[1:46]want to pray i want to feel connected with allah i want
[1:49]to feel connected in my prayer but i don't feel connected one
[1:53]of the reasons is because we did not prepare ourselves we did
[1:59]not prepare our souls and our spirituality we didn't prepare it spirituality
[2:06]rohaniya and feeling connection in a prayer it's not an on and
[2:10]off switch you can't just say oh it's now i'm going to
[2:14]feel the spirituality it doesn't happen like that there's a process that
[2:21]process begins in the month of rajab this is why it's highly
[2:23]recommended to fast during the month of rajab it's highly recommended to
[2:29]recite dua recite quran to perform ziyarah during the month of rajab
[2:34]this is why rasool allah is a river in paradise that is
[3:03]wider than milk and sweeter than honey the one who fasts one
[3:17]day during rajab allah bless this person with the opportunity of drinking
[3:22]from that river in paradise if you get to drink from the
[3:26]river in paradise what does that mean that means that you are
[3:30]in paradise that means you enter into paradise and another hadith allah
[3:41]will multiply the good the reward of the good deeds that you
[3:46]do during the month of rajab and allah will erase the bad
[3:51]deeds the one who fasts one day in rajab the hell fire
[4:03]will be further away from this person as if you would have
[4:07]to travel for one year until you reach the hell fire so
[4:10]it's one year away from this person and whoever fast for three
[4:19]days heaven becomes obligatory upon this person so the likelihood that friday
[4:28]night should probably be tomorrow night should probably be if the sighted
[4:32]it should in the united states it should be probably the eve
[4:36]of the first of rajab so saturday should most likely be the
[4:42]the first of rajab if it was not cited friday night then
[4:44]it would be sunday as the first of rajab but there is
[4:48]a big likelihood that saturday will be the first of rajab so
[4:50]if you want to fast you can start fasting saturday or sunday
[4:55]and um this is an opportunity to get closer to allah subhanahu
[5:01]wa ta'ala one of the companions of imam jaffar assad his name
[5:08]is muhammad ibn the quran this man his title his nickname was
[5:13]asad you know we have imam zainal abdeen his nickname is a
[5:18]sajad what does a sajad mean sajad means the one who is
[5:23]prostrating the one who is doing sujud the companion of imam sadaq
[5:29]was such a person who is filled with spirituality and closeness to
[5:32]allah and he was such a devout worshiper where he was known
[5:36]as a sajad as well imagine that the companions of our imams
[5:39]this is how they were one of them his name is asad
[5:46]so he comes to imam sadaq and he tells him teach will
[5:52]benefit me through this dua who goes and asks for a dua
[5:58]the person who is connected with allah otherwise if someone is not
[6:02]connected with god they're not going to go and look for the
[6:05]duas you're not going to see them in the mail program and
[6:09]the and the supplication program so the imam he teaches them this
[6:14]dua and this is a dua that you will find in in
[6:18]the books of dua try to perform this dua after each prayer
[6:23]as the after you finish the prayer you perform this dua and
[6:29]this dua is you place your hand on your beard and you
[7:16]point in front of you you ask allah to make your shayba
[7:31]haram upon the hell fire so that you will not be thrown
[7:33]in the hell fire this is one of the doors now my
[7:37]dear brothers and sisters since we're talking about rajab rajab has a
[7:40]lot of occasions the birth of nazar the birth of imam al-baqarah
[7:47]the martyrdom of imam al-hadi is in rajab the birth of imam
[7:50]al-hadi is in rajab say the zainab there's an occasion for her
[7:55]imam jaffar there are several occasions so rajab has many occasions now
[8:02]the first day of rajab is the day of the birth of
[8:07]the fifth imam of bayt imam muhammad who is the son of
[8:19]imam al-hussein who is the son of amir al-mu'min imam allah the
[8:21]fifth imam of al-bait because imam al-hasan year 57 after the hijab
[8:39]so that means on the day of ashura which took place in
[8:44]the year 61 after hijra imam muhammad al-baqarah was three and a
[8:49]half years old and he attended on the day of he was
[8:51]there and he saw what happened to imam al-hussein and therefore he
[8:56]is one of the narrators of the event of he narrates to
[9:00]us what happened on the day of ashura and imam muhammad al-baqr
[9:05]was poisoned in the year 114 after hijra and he lived for
[9:12]57 years his imam lasted for around 19 years 18 19 years
[9:18]that was the period of the imam of imam muhammad al-baqarah after
[9:24]the death of imam zayn abdin in the year 95 after hijrah
[9:28]now his father we know who his fathers his father is imam
[9:37]zain al-abidin his mother is fatima fatima the daughter of imam al-hassan
[9:44]and this is why imam al-baqar he's a saiyan from both sides
[9:49]from his father's side he goes to imam hussain imam zayn and
[9:53]then imam hussain and from his mother's side is fatima who is
[9:58]the daughter of imam al-hassan and then he goes to imam hasan
[10:00]so he he is hasan he's from both hassan's imam al-hussein and
[10:05]imam al-hassan his lineage and this is why the imams after imam
[10:09]al-baqarah from imam and bakr and onward they both go to imam
[10:14]al-hasan and imam al-hussein imam al-hassan his title and his name and
[10:28]his imam was prophesied by rasulallah in fact we believe that our
[10:36]imams our imams are not elected officials elected by people our imams
[10:40]are chosen by allah and rasool allah he named all of the
[10:48]imams not only imam ali on the day of ghadir he tells
[10:52]he tells the muslims the first imam and then imam al-hassan and
[10:56]then imam hussain and then muhammad and he gave them their titles
[11:05]today when we say muhammad al-baqr where did we get this title
[11:11]backer from we got it from rasulallah where did we get sadhak
[11:15]from sadhak is a title of the name the name his name
[11:19]is muhammad al-baqr or jaffar where did we get these titles from
[11:23]from rasulullah and even imam al-munta his title is given to him
[11:31]by rasool allah and this is in a hadith regarding imam al-batar
[11:35]in a hadith that is accepted by all muslims sunnis and shias
[11:40]they narrate this hadith and one of the narrators scholars sunni scholars
[11:46]by the name of ibn koteva ibn koteva he mentions that told
[11:53]one of his companions by the name of jabir ibn abdullah ansari
[11:57]you remember abdullah in the event of the arab of imam hussain
[12:03]the first person the first of the companions to visit the grave
[12:06]of imam and hussain was sorry became older but during the time
[12:15]while he was the sahaba of rasulallah rasulullah tells him you are
[12:20]going to live old enough where you are going to see one
[12:25]of my grandchildren his name is my name muhammad yap he's going
[12:33]to spread and and knowledge is going to explode during his era
[12:38]and then he tells him when you see him give him my
[12:47]salams so ibm scholars they mention that jabarbin abdullah ansari became was
[12:59]born in the year 57 after hijra so this was probably after
[13:04]year 57 and most likely it was after the martyrdom of imam
[13:10]al-hussein so in the year 60s or 70s so so this is
[13:13]60 years after the death of rasulallah or 50 years probably jabber
[13:20]used to go around in madina and he used to say yabaka
[13:23]yabata some people thought this man is he's old he's insane he's
[13:31]lost his mind so they tell him what are you saying that
[13:38]i'm going to live old enough i'm going to see one of
[13:42]his grand great grandchildren who his name is muhammad he resembles rasulullah
[13:48]and he is go knowledge is going to spread during his era
[13:55]so the narration says he goes to the house of imam zain
[13:57]al-abidin and he sees a child he sees him he tells him
[14:02]come here he comes and then he tells him he looks at
[14:06]him walk tells him what's your name he says my name is
[14:13]muhammad and then he asks him he finds out that this is
[14:22]he tells him your grandfather rasool allah he sent salam to you
[14:30]imagine not your grandfather but your grandfather's grandfather said salaam to you
[14:35]and someone who's alive comes and delivers that salam to you this
[14:38]is you know this is beautiful because imam imam al-baqar imam zayn
[14:45]abedin his grandfather is imam and hussain and then so his grandfather's
[14:51]grandfather sent salam to him so imam al-batar who was a child
[14:56]he tells [Music] and then he would ask him questions and he
[15:10]saw that he was indeed someone who was very smart very wise
[15:15]from a very young age now imam al-baqara what's very significant during
[15:26]his life is that he started the enlightenment era the intellectual era
[15:31]you know all of the imams they're all brilliant they're all given
[15:35]the knowledge from allah subhanahu ta'ala but because of the circumstances of
[15:40]the time some of the imams did not have the freedom like
[15:42]imam al-hussein did he have the freedom no imam hussain was killed
[15:48]amir al-mu'min was he given the freedom no amir mu'min was kept
[15:52]in his house for 24 years as soon as the power came
[15:56]to him they started war after war after war imam al-hasan was
[15:59]not given the freedom because the authorities they were watching them they
[16:03]were persecuting them during the time of imam al-baqar the umawi authorities
[16:09]they had they were so you know busy and occupied with running
[16:16]the muslim state and expanding the muslim empire that they didn't really
[16:22]focus so much on medina and the internal politics they kind of
[16:26]you know ignored the internal politics because the imams as well they
[16:30]weren't revolting they weren't saying anything so because of course because of
[16:36]a wise decision that they had not because they were afraid or
[16:41]anything so that period was a relative period of enlightenment and it
[16:47]started with imam zainab imam in the beginning after immediately after the
[16:52]death of imam and hussain he didn't have the freedom but towards
[16:55]the end of his life he was able to teach through dua
[17:00]through through here things here and there once imam zel abdin passed
[17:04]away in year 95 after hijrah imam al-batar he was old enough
[17:09]and he would sit in the masjid of rasulallah and he would
[17:13]deliver sermons and he would teach people he used to have classes
[17:19]where he used to teach people and this is even mentioned in
[17:23]a story one day the medina he came to the masjid and
[17:29]he was giving a tour to the khalifa the khalifa at that
[17:35]time was abdul malik abdul malik ibn marwan so al-waleed abdul malik
[17:40]he was the caliph at that time he's ordered for the expansion
[17:45]and the growth and renovation of the masjid of rasulallah he comes
[17:51]to madina all the way from sham from damascus he comes to
[17:56]medina so the governor of madinah omar bin abdul aziz who later
[17:59]on he becomes khalifa he is giving abdul malik a tour of
[18:05]the masjid of the renovation project in the masjid of rasulallah while
[18:09]they enter into the masjid they see that there's a class in
[18:13]session who's the teacher the teachers imam al-baqara and there are hundreds
[18:19]of students attending but abdul malik was surprised because usually if you
[18:26]see there's a class going on in the masjid what kind of
[18:29]topics are you going to be hearing oh this is halal this
[18:35]is haram or quran or islamic history things like that he saw
[18:40]imam al-baqar saying something that is very abnormal he's never heard it
[18:50]before so he asks him what is this what is this knowledge
[18:52]that you're teaching people he says the sky and the heavens about
[19:15]the sun astronomy and the stars now imam al-baqar aren't the imams
[19:20]of the advent they're just imams or they're just knowledgeable in religious
[19:24]issues in quran and hadith no the imams of the bait they
[19:31]have been given the knowledge by allah and they are knowledgeable in
[19:36]everything allah says in the quran when allah chooses someone as an
[19:52]imam allah chooses someone who is complete in all dimensions not only
[19:55]in islamic topics in everything imam al-baqarah is teaching geology and astronomy
[20:02]fourteen hundred years ago in the masjid of rasulallah what does this
[20:07]teach us this teaches us that knowledge getting closer to allah with
[20:12]knowledge could be any type of knowledge it doesn't have to be
[20:14]islamic knowledge that's one second it teaches you that the masjid should
[20:19]be a place where people learn all topics everything this is why
[20:23]there's nothing wrong with for example having tutoring programs in the masjid
[20:27]teaching mathematics teaching other other subjects in the masjid there's nothing wrong
[20:32]with that in fact this is what islam encourages and this is
[20:36]what the role of a masjid is this is what imam al-baqara
[20:41]was doing so anyways this is there's a long story behind this
[20:44]where al-waleed the khalifa he calls he looks at the students and
[20:49]he sees that the topic that's being taught is very difficult he
[20:53]sees a child sitting and the child is debating with the teacher
[20:57]imam and bakker so he asks who's the tour guide he tells
[21:02]him who's that child he says that child is his son jaffar
[21:08]so he says a hawaii effem he understands because i don't understand
[21:13]what's being taught he understands what's being taught the khalif the the
[21:18]um is the tour guide he tells the khalifa he is the
[21:22]only one who understands everything sometimes it's just back and forth between
[21:25]the teacher and imam jafar so he calls imam assad and he
[21:30]asks him several questions we'll cover that another time it's a beautiful
[21:34]hadith as well so this part of it shows the the intellectual
[21:40]genius of imam jafar sadaq as well anyways imam al-baqar he is
[21:46]known as the founder of the islamic university where thousands of students
[21:54]graduated under his leadership sunni scholars they learned from the imams of
[22:00]the albert sunni scholars like imam sadaq the son of imam al-baqar
[22:04]abu hanifah the leader of the hanafi school of thought were millions
[22:08]of muslims they followed the hanafi school of thought he was the
[22:12]student of imam so why do you go why do you leave
[22:18]imam sadiq and go to the students and the others they all
[22:23]learned from the imams of the albeit similarly imam al-baqarah sunnis and
[22:27]shias they would come and they would learn under him one of
[22:30]his students one of the students of imam al-baqar by the name
[22:36]of jabir al-jafi jabar al-jafi narrates over seventy thousand hadith from imam
[22:46]seventy thousand can you believe it when the student has memorized seventy
[22:52]thousand hadith from the teacher how much hadith has the teacher taught
[22:57]how much hadith how much knowledge does the teacher have when only
[23:03]the student has 70 thousand another student today right now our scholars
[23:09]when they go and they want to derive laws they go to
[23:13]these individuals and these individuals he was the teacher of this the
[23:18]students of imam al-baqara and then later on the student of imam
[23:20]sadiq he narrates from imam al-baqarah 40 000 hadith 40 000 hadith
[23:32]these are all individuals scholars that would narrate and they would learn
[23:37]from the imams of the ahledbait today scholars they point out 470
[23:45]narrators of hadith who were the students of imam al-baqar and the
[23:52]imam would teach many languages many sciences quran hadith as we mentioned
[23:58]astronomy geology other subjects tafsir of the quran is one of them
[24:06]ideology but the imam salam he would also he wasn't just someone
[24:10]who was sitting in his house or in the masjid just teaching
[24:13]no the imam was engaged in politics as well at that time
[24:18]the muslims even though the khilafah the muslim caliphate was in the
[24:22]hands of the umaes and it was very big but the muslims
[24:26]they didn't mint their own coins where would they get their gold
[24:32]and silver coins from they would get their coins from the romans
[24:35]from the roman empire so the roman empire at that time they
[24:40]had issues with the khalifa they wanted to make a coin with
[24:47]a with with a sign on it that is bringing down islam
[24:54]and muslims so this would be an insult to the muslims there's
[24:56]an insult on the coin and the muslims they have to use
[25:00]that coin so this what they this put the khalifa in a
[25:05]very difficult situation he needs their coin like right now what's going
[25:09]right now the dollar it's rules the world and all over the
[25:15]world they need the dollar but imagine if a country they need
[25:18]the dollar and the dollar has an insult towards that country that's
[25:21]not going to look good you you use it but then it's
[25:25]insulting you so here the khalifa didn't know what to do imam
[25:28]he taught the khalifa how to mint a coin how to make
[25:33]the coin and from that day on the muslims they started making
[25:39]their own coins and started minting their own their own coins and
[25:43]this was something that was amazing and a major contribution from imam
[25:49]al-baqarah towards islam and the muslim community and even though the imam
[25:54]was not in power but the imam did something that benefits all
[25:57]of the muslims the knowledge of the imam is very great there's
[26:03]an interesting story imam sadak alaihissalam he narrates the story he says
[26:07]one day i was with my father in mecca and my father
[26:12]was doing tawaf around the kaaba and the khalifa at that time
[26:19]hasham ibn abdul malik he was also performing the hajj at that
[26:22]time so he had come from damascus performing the hajj and we
[26:24]the imam and the imam and bakr they went from madina to
[26:29]mecca and imam al-bakr is doing tawaf in the tawaf he says
[26:33]that everyone hears in he says all praises do to allah that
[26:40]he chose us with prophethood and he made from us the imams
[26:44]and he made us us us this there were spies around they
[26:49]heard this they go and they tell the khalifa the khalifah he
[26:52]summons imam al-baqar and imam jaffar all the way to damascus he
[27:00]summons him so imam sadiq he says i went with my father
[27:02]all the way to damascus and they made us wait for three
[27:09]days before we enter in on the khalifa and then once we
[27:12]entered in the khalifa was and he had his generals and he
[27:19]has the governors and all those people around him he's sitting on
[27:23]a big couch and he has soldier he says they brought imam
[27:25]al-baqara and imam they brought them the khalifah does not give them
[27:30]permission to sit he makes them stand he wants to bring them
[27:33]down he wants to insult them so then the khalifa at that
[27:40]time he wants to make imam al-baqarah look bad so he tells
[27:45]him there these soldiers these generals they're taking bows and they're they're
[27:51]doing archery they're throwing uh they're throwing bows they're shooting arrows why
[27:55]don't you go and shoot some arrows so imam bakker tells him
[28:00]i'm an older man i mean why do you want me to
[28:03]come the khalifa wanted to insult the imam to say oh look
[28:05]he doesn't know how he's messing up he tells him i'm an
[28:09]old man he tells him no you have to go and throw
[28:13]you have to go and shoot an arrow so imam assad he
[28:16]says my father he went he took an arrow and he shot
[28:19]it and it came right on the target so the khalifa said
[28:24]you know what this is luck do another one he says he
[28:27]took another one and he shot it and it came right on
[28:30]the target it ripped the first piece of wood and split it
[28:35]in half and then he said a third one and it came
[28:36]right on the target fourth one fifth one nine times nine times
[28:40]all of them they came and they hit right on the target
[28:45]he said you told us you don't know you told he he
[28:49]didn't say he told us you don't know he said you told
[28:53]us you're too old he tells them we have been chosen by
[28:55]allah perfection is everything that we don't know how to do it
[29:03]the imam tells him we inherit these virtues onto one another so
[29:07]imam assad he also shoots and he makes them all perfect then
[29:12]the khalifa he begins to debate with the imam and the imam
[29:16]conversation it's a long hadith imam tells him we have been chosen
[29:21]by allah that's the difference when someone is chosen by this person
[29:27]is purified by god this person perfection and infallibility from allah subhanahu
[29:32]wa here the khalifa wanted to bring down the imam and humiliate
[29:38]the imam but the imam allah subhanahu ta'ala showed his status and
[29:44]he was raised and everyone at that time they started looking at
[29:48]the imam and following the imam until the khalifah he sends him
[29:50]back he tells them go back to medina and don't stay here
[29:54]long because the longer you stay the more the khalifa is going
[29:58]to you know look weak in front of his people so my
[30:01]dear brothers and sisters we congratulate you all on the beginning of
[30:05]the month of rajab which will be inshallah in a few days
[30:11]and also on the birth of imam al-baqar and the holy occasions
[30:17]during the month of rajab alhamdulillah was oh
