[0:16]alhamdulillah ald [Music] muhami Muhammad [Music] say [Music] [Music] [Music] Ali husin
[2:02]hin [Music] for the purification of the souls and for the hastening
[2:49]of the reappearance of the awaited Savior Enlighten your souls and the
[2:54]atmosphere with the recitation of salawat upon Muhammad Ali Muhammad respected Elders
[3:06]brothers and sisters it's a dress code that is worn by millions
[3:16]of human beings around the world today it is one that is
[3:23]presented in different shapes and forms yet has one name it has
[3:28]recently been the subject of much discussion and controversy hijab or the
[3:34]veil is the Islamic dress code which is prescribed for females in
[3:40]order for their bodies to be completely covered indeed the hijab has
[3:46]been discussed in many quarters throughout Islamic history it has been the
[3:51]subject of much discussion between the scholars with regards to its application
[3:57]and specific areas related to its presentation however one noticeable aspect with
[4:06]regards to hijab is the recent Onslaught or the attention that is
[4:11]drawn towards this particular dress code within the Islamic teachings meaning that
[4:18]you and I in this day and age will notice that the
[4:24]hijab is mentioned much in the media in different Outlets Perhaps it
[4:28]is because of the rise of the number of Muslims who live
[4:32]in countries in Europe or in North America and the exposure or
[4:40]elements associated with extremism or the rise of terrorism if you were
[4:44]to look at simple examples a number of which are throughout the
[4:48]last year alone you'll see the covering of hijab across the media
[4:53]in many different occasions for example in August there was the controversy
[5:00]regarding the borini the borini is a swimsuit that is worn by
[5:05]women that covers their entire body except the face the hands and
[5:13]the feet and indeed in France in several cities such as KH
[5:18]and n it was banned this would result in a fine issued
[5:24]to women who would be seen wearing the borini interestingly what happened
[5:31]was that the designer of the borini said 40% of the sale
[5:35]of the borini was to non-muslims including Christians and Jews and a
[5:41]percentage she said was sold to men can you believe yes that
[5:47]this particular swimsuit was not necessarily confided to Muslim women yet many
[5:55]were outraged when French police decided to force a lady a muslima
[6:00]who is wearing the borini on the beach to indeed take it
[6:02]off and pictures were posted and many condemned this likewise there has
[6:10]been recently AR rise in racial and so and religious profiling when
[6:14]it comes to people traveling on planes for example two months ago
[6:19]two of our sisters who happened to be of the Shia community
[6:26]in the United Kingdom they were picked on and were taken out
[6:29]of the flight and in interrogated because what because a passenger said
[6:33]I saw Arabic writing on their phone and therefore they must be
[6:38]Isis they were taken and for an hour they were questioned and
[6:44]this indeed is not one isolated example as far as the religious
[6:48]profiling on airlines is concerned many incidents have been registered in the
[6:54]United States as well as what the United Kingdom also what do
[6:58]you find you find that the channel 4 reporter one of our
[7:04]sisters from the k Community yes sister Fatima Mani she was subjected
[7:08]to a vicious attack in UK by the Sun newspaper because with
[7:16]her hijab she covered the French terrorist attacks and indeed there was
[7:20]a statement made that why should a muslim with hijab cover this
[7:25]particular attack because they would argue that is indeed sensitive however the
[7:30]AR article was full of islamophobic Rants and unacceptable statements what else
[7:37]do you find you find for example the American Muslim athlete iaj
[7:43]Muhammad she is somebody who represented the United States in the Olympics
[7:50]the first hijabi to be representing the United States she was asked
[7:54]to remove her hijab when she attended a particular event in the
[7:59]US to get her badge she was asked by a steward to
[8:01]what to remove the hijab same time you find last week this
[8:07]last Wednesday in the in London a couple of our hijabi sisters
[8:10]as reported by the telegraph their hijab was snatched off by them
[8:16]by two men who walked behind them and what forced the hijab
[8:19]of them this and more is presented in this country in cubec
[8:23]you find a lady a muslima who's wearing hijab she was attending
[8:29]court because of a mortaring case the judge refused to continue with
[8:33]the case unless this particular lady would take her hijab off and
[8:37]that's why she's raised her case in the Superior Courts this and
[8:43]much more sadly is a depiction of hijab in this day and
[8:46]age more and more we find it in the media sometimes we
[8:51]see some positive images of hijab for example in Canada and in
[8:55]Scotland the hijab has been accepted or adopted for the police for
[8:59]some of the police to where the hijab has been approved other
[9:06]times some aspects of hijab is somehow amusing the famous fashion designers
[9:11]DOL and gabana they released this year their first collection of hijabs
[9:17]and abayas yes therefore you find that hijab today occupies such a
[9:22]central position in the discussion around the world that many people talk
[9:26]about it in its different shapes and forms and it's a subject
[9:29]that arouses much emotion and sensitivity in certain quarters therefore it needs
[9:36]to be discussed and it needs to be analyzed however I would
[9:39]like to look at the subject of hijab from one perspective from
[9:44]one issue due to the rise of the trend of this element
[9:47]regarding the Islamic dress code which is what which is the incidents
[9:55]and the number of our sisters Muslim women who are taking their
[10:00]hijab off I travel in different parts of the world and in
[10:06]many communities I am told of the rising number of believing sisters
[10:11]of muslimas who are what who are deciding to take their hijab
[10:15]off yes what I decided to do is to investigate the reasons
[10:21]because I tell you sometimes you and I may have a conclusion
[10:24]or may have a judgment or may have some preconceived ideas about
[10:31]what and why certain things happen yes we may have our own
[10:34]reasons why some of our sisters take their hijab off why they
[10:37]for example refusing to be in hijab however I decided to conduct
[10:45]at least a form of Investigation online and offline so I asked
[10:50]many people on social media over a number of days I spoke
[10:55]to people I received at least over 100 responses which were either
[10:59]public or in private over the last few days in order to
[11:03]understand what is happening why is it that we see this potential
[11:10]problem becoming bigger and bigger in different Societies in different communities there
[11:13]is no doubt that at the discussion of this issue which is
[11:19]quite sensitive and requires the attention of all that we must not
[11:23]be judgmental or in the state of condemnation yes despite the fact
[11:27]that some may believe what is about to we mentioned is slightly
[11:32]judgmental the attempt is not to judge anybody but rather to discuss
[11:36]this matter as rationally and intellectually as possible with the spirit of
[11:43]trying to get to the bottom or at least unravel or discuss
[11:45]why is it that we see this trend occurring in different communities
[11:50]within the Western World specifically yes but crucially in order for us
[11:58]to understand this area the the question that was posed by some
[12:03]individuals is what is the business of people to discuss this they
[12:08]say specifically men or Scholars or others some of our sisters said
[12:12]you do not understand our problem this is our issue we'll deal
[12:16]with it it is not for you they say to come and
[12:20]discuss this because they feel that what that this is a matter
[12:26]between them and their lord how do we respond to this Allah
[12:28]subhana waa in the Holy Quran gives us a very important message
[12:34]the message is of collective responsibility the religion of Islam is not
[12:39]a religion that espouses and Advocates the individ individualistic Tendencies towards what
[12:47]our own deeds and actions in life rather it is a religion
[12:50]that enhances and develops and understanding of collective support and what and
[12:58]advice that's why you find the Holy Quran Allah subhana wa tala
[13:05]says the believing men and women they have a degree of authority
[13:13]over each other to do what they enjoy the good and they
[13:23]forbid the evil meaning that we as believers do not subscribe to
[13:25]this idea and notion that you know what whatever you do is
[13:28]your business and whatever I do is my business I have nothing
[13:32]to do with you you are free to do what you can
[13:36]that's different to what to the notion of enforcing what we believe
[13:40]upon others because there's no compulsion so to speak in religion but
[13:44]we come with the notion of advice of support of assistance of
[13:49]trying to understand why certain things are happening yes the idea is
[13:54]projected by the holy prophet of Islam whilst with the companions the
[14:10]the prophet of Islam says how do you find yourself when your
[14:16]Youth and women have God forbid deviated they said Yool Allah is
[14:23]this going to happen he said indeed how would you find yourselves
[14:26]if you leave in joining the good and forbidding evil they said
[14:32]Yol Allah is that going to happen he said even worse how
[14:35]would you find yourself when you start enjoining the evil and forbidding
[14:39]the good they said to that level he said even worse you
[14:51]will then see one day the prophet says righteousness as evil and
[14:57]evil as good the balance will what completely reverse you will not
[15:05]no longer be able to distinguish between what is right and what
[15:09]is bad yes states that Allah subhah wa ta'ala is displeased with
[15:27]the individuals that have no religion they said to him what does
[15:33]that mean no religion he responds the ones who do not enjoy
[15:36]the good and forbid the evil do you know why because the
[15:40]Quran says you are the best of Nations for people you enjoy
[15:48]the good and you forbid the evil interestingly say Allah subhana wa
[15:54]tala has placed the IM the belief in the almighty subhana tala
[15:59]of after enjoining the good and forbidding evil not before and the
[16:03]reason is they say without the idea of commanding or inviting people
[16:10]to righteousness and highlighting what is wrong the belief in Allah subhana
[16:14]Wa tala Would Not establish yes the belief in Allah subhana wa
[16:18]taala would not be cemented and inculcated therefore it is necessary as
[16:22]a prerequisite for the development of the human beings and hence you
[16:26]find that our holy beloved Prophet says the parable the a multitude
[16:29]of the Muslim um please understand this is like a body of
[16:36]a human being is one if one part of it is aching
[16:40]the rest of the body stands in solidarity with it so for
[16:43]example if you have a shoulder pain yes you you entirely are
[16:47]in pain not for example you say I don't care it's just
[16:49]the shoulder yes the body entirely is in discomfort that's right therefore
[16:55]the prophet of Islam says you are collectively an um and sometimes
[16:59]s on the day of judgment we are told in the Quran
[17:01]Allah will judge people collectively like whom example is given in the
[17:08]Quran the community of prophet says there was a decision by some
[17:12]of them only a few to slaughter the she camel you know
[17:16]there was a she camel that Allah subh brought forward as a
[17:18]miracle yes but only a few decided to slaughter it and the
[17:25]rest were silent says Allah waala destroyed them all because because they
[17:30]approved of this act because they were happy with it they were
[17:34]silent they did not speak out they did not enjoy the good
[17:40]and forbid the evil therefore let's discuss this subject in detail at
[17:44]the same time though let's look at this with the following introduction
[17:48]the first thing is the following reasons that I'm about to discuss
[17:52]that were presented by some sisters who have taken their hijab off
[17:55]and some brothers who have relatives or friends or no people who
[18:00]have taken their hijab off are not comprehensive this is not a
[18:05]complete list number one number two sometimes it is complex sometimes it's
[18:09]a combination of factors it is not necessarily one particular Factor it
[18:13]is a number of reasons that are intertwined and number three even
[18:17]with that reason there are degrees so sometimes some people adhere or
[18:25]present a particular reason for a a degree for a level and
[18:28]another for another level therefore let's look at the first reason why
[18:32]some of our sisters or the Muslim women around the Western World
[18:37]specifically have decided not to Adorn the Islamic dress code of Chastity
[18:45]and modesty the first one is what men yes indeed the presentation
[18:50]is given that when it comes to the subject of hijab often
[18:53]our brothers switch off and they believe it is nothing to do
[18:59]with them yet there are many areas associated with hijab which is
[19:04]directly connected to males for example the way our brothers present themselves
[19:10]when it comes to public life when it comes to social media
[19:13]sometimes leaves a lot to be desired yes the idea that emerges
[19:18]is some of our brothers are careless about their presentation yes that
[19:22]when it comes to their pictures that they post the poses for
[19:26]example even the dress that they wear when they come to mosque
[19:30]or in Salah have discussed this that sometimes some of our brothers
[19:37]when they stand in namas in Salah what do they do they're
[19:40]wearing short shirts or shirts which are tight yes when they go
[19:44]in s God help the one who is behind them yes the
[19:49]idea exists is what is that there must be a covering of
[19:54]what of the body as far as the private parts is concerned
[19:57]yet sometimes our brothers oblivious of their responsibilities and duties number one
[20:02]as far as how they presentent themselves this needs to be thought
[20:05]about because the sisters say there is a Relentless pressure on us
[20:09]with regards to hijab but nobody speaks anything about the brothers and
[20:13]how they represent themselves yes it needs to be a combined effort
[20:16]number one number two with regards to men is the sensitive top
[20:19]topic of marriage that we are told SAR there are some brothers
[20:27]who specifically look for and request and do not marry any other
[20:31]than nonh hijabi sisters yes so they make this stipulation that I
[20:35]don't want to get married to a hijabi girl yes why some
[20:41]have said it is because I feel inferior because I see them
[20:46]as more religious and I want to build my life together with
[20:51]them so later on maybe they would wear hijab number two no
[20:55]some men want to showcase their wives as trophy wives so when
[20:59]they're sitting with others yes they sometimes feel that without hijab they
[21:05]are presenting their wives in their mindset to be in a good
[21:11]position or in a positive light others say no the reason why
[21:14]I'm looking for a non-h hijabi sister to get married to is
[21:19]because of family she'll fit in more with family because of the
[21:23]backgrounds and associations regarding what regarding family now when we look at
[21:30]this particular area how do we discuss it the first thing to
[21:32]understand is that our sisters sometimes feel under pressure when it comes
[21:37]to marriage and some decide to take off the hijab because of
[21:40]this area the response and the idea that is given to them
[21:45]or to the brothers as well is that marriage should start with
[21:47]the correct foundations of obedience to Allah subhana wa taala if marriage
[21:52]starts with the clear Disobedience of Allah then it really had started
[21:59]from the wrong footing isn't it that we are seeking to ensure
[22:02]that the marital relationship is based with what on The Obedience of
[22:06]Allah and the love of the almighty subhana wa taala and my
[22:10]message to the sisters who feel Under Pressure because I received a
[22:14]private message from a brother who said my sister was engaged to
[22:18]a brother Shia brother and he in said you must remove the
[22:24]hijab she said no and she broke up the engagement the family
[22:27]supported her but the community was relentlessly attacking her they were saying
[22:32]to her it's okay here's a a boy you know take off
[22:36]your hijab for a while later you'll put it on yes that
[22:41]exists he sent me this particular message right the notion that is
[22:44]given is and the message that to our sisters is what my
[22:46]dear sister if the brother has told you to take off your
[22:51]hijab then he does not deserve you he does not deserve you
[22:59]yes do not compromise your faith for the sake of human beings
[23:03]do not Place Allah as second and human beings as first that
[23:09]compromise is dangerous it does not bring fruits it does not result
[23:13]in what positive outcome that's number one number two when it comes
[23:19]to discussing this important subject of social hijab yes the Quran starts
[23:23]addressing men isn't it in Chapter 24: 30 Allah subhah wa ta'ala
[23:31]says say to the believing men to lower their gazes what is
[23:39]presented is that sometimes the conduct of our brothers when it comes
[23:44]to the sisters project this idea that they do not take the
[23:47]social hijab seriously or they are not implementing it in their conduct
[23:55]the way they speak the way they look the comments the judgments
[23:59]the condemnations sometimes the condescending attitude towards sisters whom they do not
[24:05]like their hijab of or for example have a particular issue with
[24:08]the way they dress this creates a lot of sensitivity and whether
[24:13]right or wrong it's causing some of our sisters to somehow reject
[24:17]the hijab because they feel that not enough emphasis is being placed
[24:21]on the fact that a great support for hijab comes from the
[24:26]fathers the brothers and the husbands they have an unbelievably important role
[24:32]in inculcating and standing in solidarity in protecting the Islamic dress code
[24:36]stipulated by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala yes no doubt about it likewise
[24:41]some of our sisters have commented and said one thing that puts
[24:45]fear in their hearts is some extreme men meaning what some of
[24:50]our brothers who stipulate for example that the wives do not leave
[24:56]the house that the wives dress in a particular way that they
[24:59]should not be here or there excessively yes that puts fear that
[25:03]these sisters will not be able to lead a comfortable lifestyle within
[25:08]the boundaries of sharia law no doubt yes within the boundaries of
[25:12]Shar they feel a sense of what of much limitation much more
[25:15]than what is stipulated in Shar law therefore at the outset the
[25:21]role of men should never be underestimated and they have a pivotal
[25:26]role to stand in solidarity and support our sisters in all the
[25:29]different shapes and forms that we have discussed at the same time
[25:34]the second area is the role of parents we are told there
[25:37]are cases in which parents are pressurizing their daughters or sometimes others
[25:45]to remove the hijab why because of the increasing attack on hijabis
[25:51]and let's be honest it is happening for example in America and
[25:54]North Carolina this year this has all happened this year these incidents
[25:57]yes North Carolina in a a flight a man comes to a
[26:04]hijabi sister she's sitting in a flight and he rips off the
[26:06]hijab from her head and says to her this is America yes
[26:11]this has happened and he was later charged in court there's no
[26:14]doubt these kind of attacks are happening in the United Kingdom in
[26:17]December last year two ladies who were what inside the bus Muslim
[26:20]ladies muat they were attacked by other ladies who were not and
[26:27]verbally abused then kicked and punched so some of the parents are
[26:30]saying out of security of my daughter I am suggesting that she
[26:35]does not wear hijab what do we respond to this the first
[26:37]thing is that the parents are role models for our brothers and
[26:41]sisters especially in this case the sisters from a young age they
[26:47]need to develop and inculcate the love of hijab to their children
[26:50]yes and be examples of people who would not run away from
[26:55]this so-called Battlefield I tell you sometimes it's like a battlefield yes
[26:58]that Islam has not reached us without hundreds of thousands of people
[27:05]taking arrows and being mared throughout the process Islam has not reached
[27:10]us cheap yes now when you and I give in because of
[27:13]society pressure of because what is happening out there and somehow we
[27:17]subject ourselves to this feeling of you know what I'm going to
[27:23]give up this notion because I fear yes in the past there
[27:26]have been many who have feared much more than us alhamdulillah we
[27:32]live in societies there is much security yes incidents like this are
[27:36]small from time to time yet the notion that must be highlighted
[27:39]and emphasized is what that parents command respect don't they and they
[27:46]act as exemplars I tell you on the day of judgment they
[27:50]will stand before Allah and they will be held accountable if they
[27:54]were the reason and the cause why some of the sisters have
[27:59]taken their hijab if they have not done whatever they can to
[28:02]preserve this and what at a time of increasing islamophobia increasing pressure
[28:09]it is us who we should be the Defenders of hijab more
[28:13]than any other time it is not at this time for us
[28:18]to run away it is not for this time for us to
[28:23]somehow hide it is this for us as parents as husbands as
[28:25]brothers we should stand What in solidarity and say any attack on
[28:33]a Muslim is an attack on me any attack on a person
[28:35]who adorns the hijab and is free to wear What She Likes
[28:40]is what is a personal attack on me and therefore what we
[28:43]become individuals who take the arrows too yes and will'll take the
[28:46]Arrows with dignity and with full conviction likewise there is a feeling
[28:50]the third reason is that hijab is cultural it is not waj
[28:57]that it is impos Us by men and there are many voices
[29:03]out there who are supporting and spreading this kind of thoughts so
[29:06]it's a lack of Education or understanding about the obligatory aspect of
[29:11]hijab how do we respond with the two EAS please pay attention
[29:14]to this is of the greatest importance what is the two ease
[29:19]evidence and Ethos evidence from the Holy Quran chapter 24:31 Allah subhah
[29:27]wa ta'ala says that let them place this yes over their heads
[29:40]and their necks is a dress code in Arabic or a dress
[29:43]that is placed what on the head as well as the neck
[29:49]in chapter 33: 59 Allah subhana tal says oh Prophet make sure
[29:54]you inform your wives your daughters when that they should wear the
[30:05]loose article of clothing that covers their entire body yes that's why
[30:09]the say another proof in order for us to briefly look at
[30:12]this another proof of the obligatory aspect of hijab is the fact
[30:20]that there is there is unanimous agreement Sunni and Sh schols throughout
[30:24]history of its obligation by en large yes you have voices here
[30:28]and there but they are not at all effective by en large
[30:34]through, 14400 years likewise the exemplary individuals people that Muslims look up
[30:38]to as Role Models yes as far as many Muslims look up
[30:43]to the wives of the holy prophet as far as the ladies
[30:46]of the bit as far as the wives and the sisters and
[30:48]the mothers of the sahabah and the companions of the bit they
[30:54]all wore the hijab yes that this notion of 14400 years of
[30:57]hijab could not be just all of a sudden ignored and somebody
[31:01]would come and say you know what I'm not convinced that it
[31:03]is waj but this argument by itself should not be presented without
[31:07]the ethos please understand this sometimes when it comes to our younger
[31:13]sisters a 9-year-old when she's wearing the hijab if we don't make
[31:19]the effort to explain what hijab is all about if we do
[31:20]not play some kind of emphasis on the philosophy of hijab then
[31:26]perhaps when they get older and they go to college University they'll
[31:29]be influenced from people here and there and they will remove it
[31:33]yes because they don't understand why they're wearing it sometimes they feel
[31:38]compelled to wear it whereas we are told the Quran gives us
[31:43]a number of key factors that should be kept into consideration as
[31:46]to why hijab is w and why is it necessary Allah subhanahu
[31:52]waala says it is a means of purification for whom for the
[31:59]those who Adorn it meaning what Allah subhana wa tala knows what
[32:01]is best for us it is he who has created us and
[32:06]therefore out of his Mercy out of his love presents us with
[32:09]obligatory tasks so that our hearts are purified the Quran says hijab
[32:17]is good hijab elevates and enhances the spirituality of the what of
[32:23]the individual now within this some of our sisters have said well
[32:27]to be honest with you and I see the conduct of some
[32:29]hijabis it leaves a lot to be desired they say I see
[32:35]some hijabi sisters they lie they cheat they do Haram how is
[32:41]it possible we respond in this way that as far as hijab
[32:43]is concerned there is no doubt that it's not only a piece
[32:48]of clothing that is placed on the body that there is the
[32:50]hijab of the body and there is the hijab of the heart
[32:55]and the tongue and these two are as important as each other
[32:58]but it is not an excuse to say because some people because
[33:03]they wear the hijab and they're not necessarily good Muslims I don't
[33:07]wear the hijab it's like saying somebody who prays Steals and back
[33:10]bites therefore I would not pray it does not work like this
[33:16]I not I must dissociate people's own decisions as far as actions
[33:21]is concerned from that which is obligatory hijab is not no doubt
[33:24]it is not only the covering of the body hijab is what
[33:30]is his actions his presentation his ethos it's all this combined in
[33:33]a package but it must start with the physical hijab and it
[33:38]must not be abandoned yes number one number two Allah says in
[33:43]the Holy Quran in chapter 24:31 he ends it by saying wear
[33:48]the so you become Victorious the Quran also says what that hijab
[33:55]is a symbol of identification for our system how you know in
[34:00]a battlefield you have flag bearers these flag bearers are targeted first
[34:06]and foremost by whom by the enemy because if the flag bearers
[34:13]fall normally there is a sense of demoralization in the Army our
[34:20]sisters are the flag bearers yes when they come forward with the
[34:23]hijab they are truly ambassadors of the religion of Islam No Doubt
[34:26]and this is a source of Pride and honor that Allah subhana
[34:32]wa tala chose them yes that Allah waala has given them this
[34:35]yes it is difficult nobody should underestimate the difficulty that some of
[34:40]our sisters face in different quarters of the world when adorning the
[34:43]hijab and the veil but with this difficulty comes much reward no
[34:49]doubt and much blessing from the almighty subhanahu wa'ta'ala another ethos another
[34:55]philosophy of the hijab is so that they are not molested so
[35:01]that what so that they're not subjected to gazes and looks CNN
[35:07]interviewed a sister who took her hijab off and other outlets did
[35:14]the same I was researching this and I found this one of
[35:16]them said when I took my hijab off I started to be
[35:21]abused or get glances and advances from men much more than when
[35:25]I had my hijab it's a testimony Allah says in the Quran
[35:28]that there will be more and more molestation more and more harassment
[35:32]without hijab yes likewise it is a means to connect with the
[35:41]pure Souls of whom examples like the Lady of Light Fatima and
[35:44]The Honorable lady indeed when we understand this we say that on
[35:57]the day of judgment what happens the closer we are to these
[36:01]holy individuals as far as their deeds and actions are concerned the
[36:04]more they will come to our Aid and help yes as far
[36:08]as Sha is concerned as far as witnessing is concerned no doubt
[36:11]that connection that light with them will become enhanced the more we
[36:15]follow in their footsteps therefore that should be understood but arguably one
[36:22]of the most strongest or most widely reported reasons for the taking
[36:28]of of the hijab is the feeling of stigmatization and the de
[36:36]glamorization of hijab in society and in the media meaning what sisters
[36:43]come forward and say you know when I am wearing the hijab
[36:47]the society around judges me the society looks down upon me there
[36:51]is an increase in Celebrity culture yes there is an increase in
[36:57]some kind of looking at the hijabi in negative light yes this
[37:01]results in what people questioning their intention some of our sisters have
[37:06]said who've taken the hijab they of they say the reason why
[37:08]I've done it is we've asked ourselves maybe I'm wearing it for
[37:13]the wrong reason maybe I'm not sincere so let me take it
[37:15]off maybe it is what Shan for example influences and says God
[37:21]will never forgive you yes and creates this feeling of low selfesteem
[37:25]within them low self-worth within them yes no no doubt likewise some
[37:30]have done this because as a reaction reaction to what they say
[37:34]you are a traditionalist you are a conservative Muslim yes sometimes they
[37:38]do it to stand against the status quo say I want to
[37:42]challenge what has been happening and the notion out there some of
[37:45]the sisters says we take it off because when we have it
[37:49]on where there are more expectations that are placed upon us as
[37:52]a hijabi as far as our conduct is concerned but when we
[37:57]take it off not much expectation exists from the community that we
[38:01]reside this and more is presented and is given as what as
[38:08]a reason why sometimes our sisters feel due to the pressure that
[38:12]they feel in society in different places that they make this decision
[38:16]how do we look at this first thing to look at it
[38:22]is that no doubt this is a symptom of the faith and
[38:25]spirituality declining we look at for example a lifestyle in the west
[38:32]and there is no doubt that there is more and more emphasis
[38:35]and increasing attachment to materialism to the desire to own things to
[38:41]the desire to fit in and be accepted yes this notion of
[38:47]Iman is of the utmost importance yes that no doubt The Faculty
[38:51]or the area within our lives associated with our belief in Allah
[38:55]subhanahu wa ta'ala the spirituality is shaken when sometimes we are in
[39:04]certain Societies or groups or certain communities and the notion that is
[39:10]given is this idea of seeking approval from others fitting in with
[39:14]others understanding where we reside with others is discussed in the Quran
[39:18]Allah says if you're looking for some kind of power might strength
[39:29]to Allah belongs what the strength the yes the dignity the honor
[39:36]if an individual what is happening out there is our sisters feel
[39:39]that sometimes they're fighting this battle alone therefore they go through stages
[39:45]of anxiety they feel not much worth selfworth yes whereas what it
[39:51]needs is an understanding of the need to be number one surrounded
[39:57]with the right friends and surrounded with the right individuals that boosts
[40:02]their spirituality and help them to understand the bigger picture number two
[40:08]examples of Role Models sisters who are role models for others yes
[40:11]because many times we hear them saying there are many male role
[40:14]models but we don't necessarily have female role models no doubt this
[40:21]is very important number three surroundings going to Zara visits for example
[40:27]to holy places like Mecca all help to restore at least a
[40:33]degree of spirituality and strengthen the IM these are simple measures sometimes
[40:38]reflection sometimes simple advice yes is of the utmost importance that notion
[40:43]of is needs to strongly return back when it comes to understanding
[40:48]that as Believers we have a sense of dignity Allah subhana wa
[40:51]tala in the Holy Quran says in another verse yes Allah says
[41:01]the I give it to the prophet as well as the Believers
[41:05]it is given from the almighty subhana wa ta'ala to those who
[41:09]connect with him now the empowerment of our sisters should not come
[41:15]from men but should come with Allah that empowerment really is the
[41:21]driving factor for them to understand what is it that they ought
[41:26]to do or at least which dire ction they ought to take
[41:29]But please understand the next point which is delicate very very sensitive
[41:34]the attitude that we have approached this subject this idea of notion
[41:40]of hijab and our sisters taking off hijab some say we are
[41:47]pigeonholed and labeled because the moment somebody looks at a hijabi the
[41:52]only factor that they think about they say is the hijab where
[41:54]is when they look at the man for example the man does
[41:58]not have to suffer with this they say that the idea is
[42:03]that sometimes other features of the sisters their abilities their strength their
[42:05]qualities are not necessarily understood or or grasped whereas all that they
[42:14]are judged by is their appearance or their hijab as far as
[42:18]Society is concerned so how do we look at this within the
[42:20]Islamic teachings Allah subhah wa taala in over 600 verses in the
[42:30]Quran emphas izes the importance of Mercy Love and Hope today unfortunately
[42:35]there is so much rhetoric out there that increases hatred judgment condemnation
[42:43]people want to bring people down Islam espouses the importance of bringing
[42:48]hope to the table and discussing this subject in the best possible
[42:52]way in the notion that when we bring about Hope and the
[42:58]mercy of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala the fact that he is so
[43:01]loving he is so compassionate so merciful that brings about a sense
[43:08]of Tranquility a sense of openness yes not rigidness not strictness but
[43:13]sometimes you know we find when a subject is discussed or when
[43:16]we see a nonh hijabi sister all of a sudden we talk
[43:20]about punishment we talk about how for example certain punishments exist in
[43:24]Hell or in Janam or we condemn them or we look down
[43:26]upon them attitude needs to change the attitude needs to be of
[43:32]understanding that this is a phenomena that is increasing and if we
[43:35]do not change the way we speak or address this issue then
[43:38]we will not necessarily see fruitful outcomes let me give you example
[43:44]yes the Quran tells us there is a Wretched Man mentioned over
[43:48]70 times his name is Fon Not only was F not believing
[43:55]in God he declared that he's God I am your Supreme Lord
[44:03]yes Allah subhana wa tala says to Ms he says oh m
[44:06]i want you to go to but how are you going to
[44:10]go to him go to he has transgressed inah chapter 20 Allah
[44:28]says speak to and a soft language in a calm manner allahar
[44:32]hold on a minute this guy is saying I am your God
[44:38]shouldn't you go with all guns blazing shouldn't you go and condemn
[44:41]them and say how dare you you're in hell no no no
[44:46]no Allah says no no no go to him with the right
[44:50]attitude and mentality with a softspoken language yes with calmness soft talk
[44:57]why maybe he will remember or start to have fear of Allah
[45:08]the MU say that is proof that this kind of talk brings
[45:14]about transformation of the heart it brings about the softness of the
[45:18]heart the Quran says maybe maybe when you go with this attitude
[45:21]not all guns blazing but with the spirit of presenting some kind
[45:25]of talk which is not condescending then maybe the individual will have
[45:33]what a more likelihood to listen and accept this you know we
[45:38]have a beautiful narration of IM Imam says mam the prophet was
[45:48]commanded by Allah to go to F and not call him but
[45:54]call him by his beloved name Abu musab to that extent yes
[46:01]because it is not about the process itself but more about the
[46:04]outcome Allah waala is telling you and I that as far as
[46:10]this notion is concerned as dealing with this subject is concerned we
[46:13]have to approach it with the right attitude the way that the
[46:15]constitution of the Quran says call to the way of Allah with
[46:24]wisdom and Good Counsel an tells us that a correct attitude the
[46:29]correct terminology the correct approach will yield results when you and I
[46:39]spread love spread Mercy that we give people hope that we give
[46:42]people this Focus that Allah subhana wa tala he says he has
[46:48]made it incumbent upon self upon himself that he is merciful that
[46:51]out of all the hundreds of names that he has in the
[46:56]Holy Quran and thousands that are found in and in Dua recite
[47:01]Dua don't we yes 1,000 attributes of Allah he chooses two and
[47:04]two that are that have a common denominator when it comes to
[47:10]the greatest verse in the Holy Quran if Allah is so merciful
[47:14]why can't we be if Allah waala wants to spread this love
[47:21]and mercy why should we spread hatred and condemnation and therefore part
[47:26]of the process of dealing with this phenomena at the same time
[47:32]though and please understand this is the idea of empowerment of our
[47:36]sisters and women in which way that for example some of them
[47:39]feel sidelined some of them feel that their voices are not heard
[47:44]that there is sometimes some misogynistic terms that are used there is
[47:49]sometimes some sexist type of ideology or thoughts that are been presented
[47:52]let us for example give them platforms let us support for example
[47:56]our female speakers yes how many today communities around the world specifically
[48:01]in the Shia communities have developed programs to encourage our sisters young
[48:06]sisters to be able to be and to give speeches because I
[48:13]tell you the future lies with them not people like me telling
[48:15]the Western world that Islam does not oppress women and hijab is
[48:18]a dress code of Liberation and modesty yes it lies with them
[48:24]coming out and says I wear the hijab and the hijab does
[48:26]not oppress me the hijab liberates me it gives me identity it
[48:31]gives me strength it's the hijab of Z and Fa and I
[48:33]will protect it that's what we need we need the sisters themselves
[48:37]to speak out isn't it and that requires the brothers the communities
[48:40]to stand together and say what let's support let's have programs let's
[48:43]do what it what we can to be what to be incorporating
[48:48]and to be supportive of the sisters but but there is what
[48:52]also a movement that is trying to reshape and redefine what Allah
[48:55]subhana tala has drawn and that is what the difference between males
[49:00]and females Allah subhana T says I do not prefer a gender
[49:02]over the other please understand this I do not Place one gender
[49:07]over the other but at the same time each have their duties
[49:09]and responsibilities that is being clouded out there today we stand ground
[49:13]and firm with the Shar law yes but Shar law is also
[49:18]it gives us the ability to what to honor women to respect
[49:21]them to empower them to give them ability to what present themselves
[49:25]and what have a voice that is indeed heard this is of
[49:30]the utmost importance likewise when our sisters come forward for example and
[49:34]they say that I am and I one thing I noticed very
[49:39]interestingly with reading all these stories that the majority of our ladies
[49:42]and sisters who have taken their hijab they've said we will put
[49:45]it on again sometimes in the future majority which means there is
[49:49]hope which means that we should be working towards an objective yes
[49:54]and it is not really about they don't believe it's wag or
[49:57]not there are a number of reasons as we have discussed some
[50:01]of them but so for example one would say that I will
[50:03]wear it later in my life because of career because of the
[50:08]fact that I need to be accepted amongst my friend Circle or
[50:10]in society how do we respond there was a lady who had
[50:16]this particular mindset in Egypt what did she do she went and
[50:20]visited her friend of hers A friend of her said let's go
[50:24]to the mosque she said no I'm not interested she said please
[50:27]for me go to the mosque once and you know what you
[50:29]can listen to a lecture there she went to the lecture yes
[50:34]she listened to the lecture about hijab she was inspired she decided
[50:36]to wear the hijab she said to her friend this is a
[50:39]true story she said to her friend I've decided to wear the
[50:41]hijab friend said very well let's go out and go to the
[50:45]market and we'll buy hijab for you she said no I now
[50:48]have decided this moment I'm not leaving this mosque this area without
[50:51]having the hijab on said very well I'll go and buy one
[50:56]for you that her friend went bought a hijab bought it back
[50:57]and gave it to her she wore the hijab she came out
[51:01]of the mosque crossing the road a car hit her and she
[51:03]passed away Subhan Allah sometimes these decisions are made but we don't
[51:08]know when we'll leave this world this procrastination and delaying of what
[51:13]is w of what is necessary yes should not be encouraged and
[51:18]should be kept in the minds of our sisters and that's why
[51:20]we find that the University of carala and the great example ofd
[51:28]and the women that stood there in honor and dignity is a
[51:34]beautiful way to describe this subject no doubt about it isn't it
[51:37]that you find the emphasis that Imam emphasized upon what the concept
[51:42]of the Islamic dresscode of modesty Chastity of hijab in which way
[51:47]for instance we are told Imam would say to the women to
[51:49]the daughters to the wives he would say to them that make
[51:53]sure that you cover up that the enemies will attack you yes
[51:56]Imam Alam knew what would happen but at the same time he
[51:58]emphasized the need to be in hijab likewise we are told that
[52:05]when he reached the River Bank yes and he did not drink
[52:07]a single drop of water he would turn around and see that
[52:12]his campsite is being attacked and he would throw the water and
[52:16]rush back to ensure that as long as he remained alive the
[52:18]protection of the ladies would be there say would what would do
[52:26]her utmost to preserve the hijab despite the fact that a sense
[52:30]or a degree of the hijab was taken away from them yes
[52:34]that we are told in the courtyard of yazid Al she would
[52:37]say is it fair that the women of the and the daughters
[52:43]of the Prophet are exposed yes whereas your women are what protected
[52:47]she was to say and she stood with such dignity you know
[52:52]say Zab is a wonderful role model as far as what standing
[52:55]strong in the face of adversity and difficulty you know people who
[52:59]are afraid of security and they say what I'll be marginalized I'll
[53:03]be stigmatized look at that honorable lady yes there was a tyrant
[53:07]before her she looked at him and says she stood like a
[53:17]mountain she rattled the Tyrant of her time and she said you
[53:20]plot you do whatever you want by Allah you will never obliterate
[53:25]our remembrance and our following such as Zab yes that you and
[53:31]I are inspired by this honorable individual and the who sought to
[53:36]preserve what they preserve the Islamic teachings each and every one of
[53:41]them as Role Models including a young man who stands as role
[53:45]model for the Youth today both men and women no doubt and
[53:50]that is Al was an individual who demonstrated so much submission to
[53:58]Allah and his heart had been completely dissolved in The Obedience and
[54:03]the love of the Almighty subhah I tell you on the journey
[54:10]towards carala the narrations tell us that Ali was walking or riding
[54:16]next to his father AB abdah when im Hussein fell asleep for
[54:23]a short period and then woke up and albar saw that the
[54:26]there were signs of distress on the face of his beloved father
[54:31]he said to him father is everything okay Imam said I saw
[54:35]a dream and in the dream I saw death approaching towards us
[54:40]yes sir at that moment yes IM knows the answer of Ali
[54:46]is not testing Ali but it's for us to know who Ali
[54:48]inbar was Ali inbar responds beautifully he says father I am not
[54:52]worried if death comes towards us or we go towards death we
[54:58]are in the path of righteousness we are on the path of
[55:02]H that is why in the morning of the day of a
[55:04]when aliar stood to recite the aan people began to remember thean
[55:12]of people began to remember the voice of the holy prophet because
[55:16]the narrations tell us aliar was what was a man who reminded
[55:20]people in many ways about to utter the prophet of Islam Imam
[55:27]Al Hussein would raise his hands up to the heavens and says
[55:33]oh Allah be witness against these people there is a man who
[55:45]resembles the prophet your Prophet has just emerged this that this man
[55:50]reminds us every time we look at him he reminds us of
[55:56]the prophet of Islam yes his manner ISM his conduct his speech
[56:00]the way he represented himself his generosity in Medina they are told
[56:05]anybody who did not meet the prophet would come and would say
[56:08]where can I see someone who looks like the prophet and they
[56:13]would say go to the house of Hussein there is a man
[56:14]known as aliar albar would go out to the house he would
[56:20]see that what he would ask his mother Leila can you keep
[56:27]the chimney can you keep the fire what going on can you
[56:29]ignite it why so that the chimney in the house can but
[56:35]have the smoke coming out of it continuously why oh Ali because
[56:39]I want the poor and the needy to continuously come to us
[56:43]so that they know there is food being prepared for them yes
[56:47]such is the generosity of this man that is why it was
[56:52]so hard for ab abdah to Bid Farewell for his beloved Son
[56:59]Ali the first from to IM he stood in front of his
[57:04]father and said father give me permission allahar the only man whom
[57:10]IM Hussein did not object to but there's one thing that he
[57:14]requested from him he said my son Ali come next to me
[57:18]I want to hug you for the final time they hugged each
[57:21]other imagine this the father and the son they hugged each other
[57:24]then they began to cry then narration says they cried and cried
[57:28]until they collapsed yes now Ali emerges he goes to the battlefield
[57:36]he fights courageously yes the son of Hussein the son of Ali
[57:40]now what we are told is that Imam is standing there watching
[57:46]and monitoring what is happening to Ali According to some narrations Lea
[57:52]was there she was watching the facial expressions of Imam Hussein then
[57:57]she looked at Imam and Imam said to her is it that
[58:03]you want that your son returns she said yes what has happened
[58:07]he says to her if you want your son to return then
[58:11]go inside the tent and supplicate to Allah because the Dua of
[58:15]the mothers is answered by Allah Leila goes inside the tent she
[58:22]sits on a Prayer match removes her hijab looks up to the
[58:26]heavens and cries oh Allah by the fact that Hussein is alone
[58:35]in the battlefield oh the one who returned YF to Y return
[58:41]Ali to towards me the narration says that Ali Akbar killed this
[58:45]enemy combatant whom what whom IM was afraid that might hurt him
[58:49]but The Thirst was intense he was very thirsty albar comes back
[58:56]he looks at his father and says father I am so thirsty
[58:59]is there any drop of water the weight of the armor is
[59:07]too much the Imam looks at Ali and says my son Ali
[59:13]my grandfather will quench your thirst from the pond of K one
[59:17]narration says look at how the heart of Imam was broken this
[59:22]is a father who has to see his son suffer in this
[59:23]way he said to him my son Ali come next to me
[59:27]he says why father he says so that I can give you
[59:32]saliva from my mouth towards you albar looks at the mouth of
[59:35]Imam he says father your mouth is even drier than mine you
[59:40]are even more thirsty than me oh abdah then at that moment
[59:45]Imam says oh Ali your mother is requesting that you go towards
[59:48]her she has asked Allah to see you for the final time
[59:53]albar goes to the tent who does he find he finds his
[59:55]mother but she's unconscious she had cried and cried she had wanted
[60:01]Ali to return he sits next to her the narration says he
[60:04]lifts her head and places her head on his lap and starts
[60:09]to Weep the tears from his eyes fall on the cheek of
[60:11]Leila the mother wakes up she says is this a dream is
[60:17]this Ali have you come back let me see you oh Ali
[60:22]do not go oh Ali one narration says she says Ali stand
[60:25]up before me he says to her why she says because my
[60:30]eyes want to see you I want to see your body fully
[60:35]intact she knows in a few moments how she will see the
[60:37]body of Ali she wants to see Ali fully healthy Ali returns
[60:45]to the battlefield he fights and fights but The Thirst gets to
[60:50]him he waits to take a breather a man comes from behind
[60:56]says I will make it father mourn for him he strikes aliar
[61:00]on his head with a sword aliar Falls onto the horse the
[61:06]blood Falls from his body and his and his face and his
[61:11]head onto the eyes of the horse and instead of taking him
[61:17]to the side of Imam the horse takes him to the other
[61:20]side now they all surround him one man stabs him with a
[61:26]spear another strikes him with a sword a third hits a rock
[61:29]on his head Ali Falls onto the ground he calls out Al
[61:40]this is my grand father I could see him the narration says
[61:46]IM Hussein he had ALB he immediately moved towards the opposite direction
[61:50]sua said father father Ali is this way he says to her
[61:53]daughter don't blame me I do not know which direction to go
[62:00]the poet says that on his way towards Ali Imam looks at
[62:06]Naf he says father Ali you have to LIF the gates of
[62:08]but you did not ever have to LIF the body of your
[62:12]son Al IM reaches to where Ali is he sits next to
[62:18]him he says to him oh my son the the life is
