[1:09]means the city the town and this is talking about the town
[1:18]that rasulullah and the city that rasulullah was born in which city
[1:22]is that mecca so this surah is a meccan surah meaning it
[1:30]was revealed in mecca and there are many lessons in this short
[1:36]surah in fact if you look at the surahs in the quran
[1:40]especially in the end of the quran the juzo amma these short
[1:46]surahs there are a lot of very important lessons in these surahs
[1:49]and they serve they're short they're concise they get to the point
[1:56]and there's a reason behind that if a surah was very long
[2:00]how many people would memorize it how many people would recite it
[2:04]in their salah this is why there's a philosophy between some surahs
[2:08]being so long like surat al-baqarah or surah nisa or surat al-imran
[2:13]and then you also have some surahs that are short because the
[2:18]short ones are meant to be recited in the salah now we
[2:21]the followers of the bait we have a condition that in a
[2:26]salah you have to recite al-fatiha and a full surah a complete
[2:32]surah the sunni brothers and sisters they have they don't have this
[2:38]condition they could read it they could read any page from the
[2:42]quran one page in the quran in the middle of the quran
[2:44]they read it we have a condition that you have to recite
[2:46]al-fatiha and a full surah so these short surahs in the quran
[2:52]my dear brothers and sisters the one that the brother just recited
[2:54]these surahs are to be memorized these surahs are we have to
[3:00]teach our kids we have to teach ourselves we have to try
[3:05]to memorize them so surat al-balad talks about many relevant points even
[3:10]though the quran was revealed 1400 years ago it speaks to us
[3:15]today speaks to our challenges today it talks about the challenges that
[3:21]every person faces this is one thing that the quran talks about
[3:25]it talks about how some people a group of people they see
[3:31]that their wealth is sufficient for them some people they give them
[3:36]a little bit of money and they say that's it i own
[3:39]the world i don't no one talk to me no one say
[3:40]anything to me because they have some money so the quran talks
[3:46]about this this talks about it reminds us of the blessings of
[3:49]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala upon us the blessings of the eyes the
[3:52]blessing of the tongue the blessing of the lips and then another
[4:02]very important blessing that the quran talks about and that is the
[4:06]blessing of hidayah the blessing of guidance this is a very important
[4:13]blessings and then it talks about how we could do good what
[4:19]defines you as a good muslim today some people they think that
[4:21]what defines me as a good muslim is my long beard or
[4:26]i'm holding a subhan my hand that makes me a religious person
[4:27]that doesn't make me a religious person what makes me a religious
[4:33]person talking about feeding the people feeding an orphan that is the
[4:50]akaba that is the obstacle that allah wants us to get through
[4:55]and then it talks about the people of the right and the
[4:57]people of the left so this surah in a hadith from rasulallah
[5:01]he says the one who recites al-balad allah subhanahu wa ta'ala of
[5:13]course the one who recites it and believes in it allah subhanahu
[5:16]ta'ala will give this person safety from the wrath of god on
[5:20]the day of judgment it means the two different groups of mufasa
[5:43]one one group of mufasareen they mean it's an oath i do
[5:49]akasam i do akasam in this city just like yesterday we said
[6:00]washington this is qasim god doing a vow in the sun and
[6:07]the moon and the stars and the sky and the earth this
[6:11]time the qasam is in what the oath is in what this
[6:16]ballad what bella does this i swear by this city mecca and
[6:35]you muhammad are free of restriction in the city meaning don't let
[6:39]the people of mecca the people of quraish who are busy with
[6:43]their idol worship and their vices and the wrong things that they're
[6:48]doing they don't deserve the qasam from god it's you ya rasulallah
[6:53]because you're in the city then the city is a sacred city
[6:55]because of rasulallah mecca becomes sacred otherwise someone might say for example
[7:01]allah is doing qasam in mecca than the people of quraish the
[7:06]muslim they say yeah that means god is favoring us no allah
[7:09]is saying there's a second opinion which also makes a lot of
[7:17]sense this second opinion says la meaning meaning no i will not
[7:23]do qasim in this ballad when you your blood is meaning your
[7:36]they want to kill you they don't they don't give you sanctity
[7:41]ya rasulallah if you don't have sanctity then i will not do
[7:45]qasam in makkah meaning mecca doesn't have value if is being persecuted
[7:49]and this is the irony mecca was a city of peace anyone
[7:55]who goes to mecca should find peace the animals the wrong doers
[8:00]whatever people two tribes before islam two tribes they're fighting with one
[8:05]another once they enter into the haram once they enter into mecca
[8:08]that's it they drop their swords they don't fight with one another
[8:11]they gave everyone peace except rasulallah rasul allah did not have peace
[8:19]in mecca that's why rasulullah had to leave mecca was persecuted and
[8:22]at the end they tried to kill him in the city in
[8:25]the holy city they tried to kill him that night amir al-mu'min
[8:30]slept in the bed of the prophet laila tillman and that was
[8:32]the night of the hijra of the night migrated talking about a
[8:48]father and the offspring of the father and that which was born
[8:56]by him so what are the mufasirin they say meaning a father
[9:01]and his son who is this talking about one opinion that the
[9:05]mufasareen they kind of go to most is ibrahim and isma'il because
[9:12]ibrahim and isma'il they built mecca mecca this ballad that the quran
[9:21]is talking about it was built by who they all knew that
[9:35]and they all revered ibrahim because he was the one who built
[9:38]the kaaba and built mecca and essentially mecca became a town that
[9:43]people were living in after ibrahim migrated and brought his family to
[9:50]mecca another opinion says it's adam and his children the progeny of
[9:55]adam this is one opinion and another one this is an oath
[10:03]meaning god is doing a qasam by every father and every son
[10:08]this is also one of the signs of god one of the
[10:12]signs of god is that you become a father a lady becomes
[10:17]a mother you pass down your dna you pass your genes and
[10:23]you also pass your your values and your principles you pass it
[10:28]to the next generation okay the human being has been created in
[10:42]constant struggle always from the beginning of your life all the way
[10:51]until the end every day is a struggle every day is a
[10:55]struggle find me one person that says my life is easy find
[10:58]me one person that says i don't struggle at all in life
[11:01]you're not going to find that some of us our struggle is
[11:08]financial i say if i have money then my problems are all
[11:11]going to go away the other person has all the money in
[11:14]the world but their struggle is with their children for example their
[11:18]struggle is with their self with their marriage with something is going
[11:20]on everyone has a problem no one no one is safe from
[11:26]any problem and this is the test of allah ta'ala in this
[11:28]dunya this dunya is supposed to be a place of test allah
[11:32]subhanahu ta'ala says in the quran that every single one of us
[11:40]everyone is going to be tested now kebab in arabic what's the
[11:50]kebab the liver the liver is the kebab they call it the
[11:56]kebab yes so the um the also the milk that has become
[12:03]dry and become hard it gets hardened they also call that takabu
[12:08]delaban so it's when things harden when things come close and they
[12:12]harden they call that takabud so they call the milk or the
[12:15]yogurt when it becomes hard in the arabic language they say takabu
[12:19]the kabat the liver because it looks like blood if you look
[12:25]at the kebab it looks like blood that's you know gathered together
[12:28]so they they call it kebab because it looks like blood is
[12:33]you know crammed together that's why they call it kabat so kebab
[12:37]also means hardship it means difficulty means when something is a little
[12:43]bit hard and this is the way to describe the reality of
[12:45]this life this life is difficult for everyone now this is giving
[12:59]us an example of some of those kuffar some of those people
[13:04]who their arrogance takes over them and they think for some time
[13:08]because they have power because they have authority they think that no
[13:12]one could defeat them does he think that never will anyone overcome
[13:21]him this is what happens to some people unfortunately you find some
[13:24]people they have a little bit of money they have some power
[13:26]and they think that they own the world they raise their head
[13:31]and they look down at people don't look down at people at
[13:36]the end of the day we are all going to go back
[13:39]to the soil at the end of the day the richest the
[13:40]most powerful person they're carried and they're placed in a coffin they're
[13:44]placed in the soil in the ground it doesn't matter there were
[13:49]people that lived 100 years ago they thought they were the most
[13:53]powerful they thought they were the richest they thought that they had
[13:56]it all down now no one's here the ones who they were
[13:58]fighting with the ones who they were looking down at they're not
[14:02]here and the ones who are living an arrogant lifestyle they're also
[14:06]not here a thousand years ago and all these people abu jahl
[14:13]who used to harass and abuse the prophet where are they right
[14:16]now so don't ever don't ever get fooled because of how much
[14:19]you have in your bank account because of the power that you
[14:24]have because of the respect the title the imam don't ever get
[14:27]fooled by these titles to make you think that you are invincible
[14:31]to make you think that you could never lose no ayah one
[14:44]of the signs of an arrogant person is wealth now not every
[14:50]wealthy person is arrogant but wealth is borderline falling towards arrogance and
[14:56]the quran says this the quran talks about this the quran says
[15:01]that the person who has the person is going to become look
[15:09]down about on people once they become filthy rich once they become
[15:15]so rich where they think they are not in need of anyone
[15:17]so here yakulo he says i gave i spent wealth with abundance
[15:25]now here there are many examples of this one is a group
[15:32]of people sometimes anytime you come and you tell them this is
[15:34]a good a good deed help a masjid help this project do
[15:39]something good they always come and say no i gave this and
[15:43]i gave that and they come and they start talking about everything
[15:45]that they've given and then when you go and you look at
[15:49]the books you see they didn't really they didn't really give much
[15:51]their talk is a lot more than their action and when they
[15:54]gave they gave out of riyadh they gave for other people to
[16:00]say masha'allah this person is giving they didn't give up now of
[16:03]course when it comes to giving allah subhanahu ta'ala wants people to
[16:06]give in two ways sometimes you give and the quran talks about
[16:13]this in fact sometimes you're supposed to give privately to nurture yourself
[16:22]to discipline the soul and sometimes you give publicly sometimes we do
[16:26]fundraisers for the masjid it's good to see some menin raise their
[16:29]hand and say i will pay why because that will encourage other
[16:35]people to pay as well if no one is if everyone's quiet
[16:36]then no one's going to give so here of course alhamdulillah the
[16:43]menin here they're all giving and no one does this this is
[16:45]talking about the kuffar he says i gave so much money and
[16:52]then you come and you see he didn't give at all some
[16:54]people not only do they not give but they stop other people
[17:00]from giving right now we always hear about this oh there's so
[17:03]many masjids there's so many mosques now in this community no but
[17:06]in probably other places anytime someone wants to do a good project
[17:11]we have so many mosques okay you're not giving why are you
[17:14]stopping other people from giving it's not coming out of your pocket
[17:19]you want to go and spend on the restaurants and on the
[17:22]businesses and other things go ahead but when other people are doing
[17:24]a good project if you're not going to support at least remain
[17:28]quiet but some people they have a problem they have to voice
[17:34]their opinion so here here there's also another opinion it's the people
[17:43]who spent money to fight rasulullah on the day of on the
[17:56]day of he spent a lot of money fighting there are people
[18:00]that invest money just to go against the truth right now you
[18:04]go and you look at the islamophobia industry islamophobia is not just
[18:08]a sentiment you're walking and someone looks at you and frowns at
[18:11]you no that's not just islamophobia there's an industry there's a group
[18:16]of people that every year they put millions of dollars to raise
[18:19]the fear of islam and muslims this is the this is what
[18:24]the quran is talking about they spend money turning people away from
[18:29]god and away from the truth and another example that's given regarding
[18:35]this is when people when people make a big deal about what
[18:38]they have given there was a man by the name of al
[18:43]hart bin amir he joined the religion of islam and then he
[18:46]committed some sins so he went to ra he tells rasulallah i
[18:51]committed some sins rasul allah tells him you have to give kaffara
[18:54]right now if someone publicly they came there's no excuse they're not
[19:00]traveling they're not sick and they break their fast you have to
[19:04]give kaffara if you don't have an excuse and you broke the
[19:09]fast you have to give kaffara at amsteen feeding 60 people or
[19:12]fasting for two months so or freeing the slave so this is
[19:18]a lot some of it comes out you have to come and
[19:21]spend you have to come and give so rasulallah tells him you
[19:23]have to give kafara because of the sins that you did so
[19:27]he would go around telling people since i joined the religion of
[19:33]muhammad i've given so much of my money i've lost so much
[19:35]of my money because he did things that are haram yet to
[19:41]he says i gave so much money in the way of islam
[19:45]i lost the money but he's not saying it in a proud
[19:50]way he's saying it in a shameful way ayah does he think
[19:55]that no one sees him sometimes when people they're living in the
[20:02]kuffur lifestyle they start living a lifestyle where they think that no
[20:07]one sees you anymore god does not see you you don't care
[20:12]about what people think what people say they start doing whatever that's
[20:15]on their mind they break all rules of morality rules of ethics
[20:18]rules of religion law right now you see those people who are
[20:23]in power and politics they're willing to break the law for their
[20:28]money they're willing to break ethical codes for their money they don't
[20:30]care about that so here ayah they think that no one sees
[20:37]them and especially god doesn't see them but allah says no allah
[20:42]is watching you maybe you could hide from the whole world could
[20:46]you hide from god could you go in a corner where god
[20:50]does not see you allah subhanahu ta'ala always sees you now here
[20:55]the next part is a direct connection with the first part they
[21:01]think that no one sees them allah is saying did god not
[21:09]give you eyes so if allah subhanahu ta'ala gave you and me
[21:14]allah gave us eyes you think god cannot see us god gave
[21:19]me the ability to see you think he cannot see me of
[21:23]course you could see me he gave me the eyes he gave
[21:27]me the ability to see you think god himself he can't see
[21:32]us of course allah subhanahu wa ta'ala can see so alam did
[21:37]we not give you eyes my dear brothers and sisters your eyes
[21:42]are the greatest gift from allah to you the greatest gift right
[21:49]now no iphone camera could be like the eyes no camera out
[21:53]there go and bring all of the best cameras in the world
[21:57]they can't be like the eye the eyes of the creation that
[22:01]allah has created this is a gift from allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[22:08]to us and here imam ali alaihissalam he says he says this
[22:22]human being sees with shaham waya takalam and speaks with meat or
[22:30]with a muscle it's the the tongue yes and here's with a
[22:37]bone now i don't know about the anatomy of the ear but
[22:40]apparently there's a bone in the ear that's probably that that helps
[22:45]you that helps you uh listen and breathe and this person breathes
[22:52]through a very small opening that's what keeps you alive so here
[22:59]alan and give you tongue and two lips the tongue is the
[23:11]ability to speak that's what gives you the power to speak and
[23:14]that is one of the signs of god right now a small
[23:19]child with some children one years old they start talking allah subhanahu
[23:24]ta'ala gives the child the ability to start speaking isn't this a
[23:29]miracle from allah and we don't and people speak in different languages
[23:33]different dialects within the language this tongue this is a gift that
[23:42]allah gave us the ability to communicate with one another and this
[23:45]is one of the signs of god in one verse allah and
[23:49]one allah from the signs of god is that you have a
[23:55]different languages that's that's one of the signs of allah subhanahu wa
[24:02]ta'ala now is your lips they're mentioned in the quran washafatein what's
[24:10]the purpose of a lip think about it what does the lip
[24:14]do the lip one thing is it beautifies a person this is
[24:17]why you see women they put lipstick on it beautifies a person
[24:21]this is one second the lip protects you it helps you talk
[24:28]right now when you're talking you need lips imagine if someone doesn't
[24:32]have lips and they're talking you're not going to be able to
[24:35]talk correctly the lip they hold the food in the mouth right
[24:39]now when you're eating the small the small piece of flesh it
[24:43]holds the food in the mouth and it helps you eat similarly
[24:47]with the tongue so all of these are blessings of allah subhanahu
[24:51]wa ta'ala upon us do we ever think about that do we
[24:56]ever thank allah subhanahu ta'ala for these blessings now there's there's the
[25:04]hidayah the guidance that we see the hidayah and the creation and
[25:07]then there's the hidayah in the the hidayah of the heart and
[25:14]that is how allah subhanahu ta'ala created us and gave us the
[25:17]pathway and showed us right from wrong sent for us prophets and
[25:23]messengers sends for us the najdene meaning we know what's right from
[25:33]wrong this is why if i know right from wrong i should
[25:34]control my tongue i should control my eyes i should control my
[25:40]lips i should control all of that that's why the hadith is
[26:00]struggling with you you can't control your tongue i've given you two
[26:04]lips that should seal shut and control the tongue and then the
[26:09]hadith continues and if your eyes if you're struggling with your eyes
[26:23]and looking at the haram i have also supported you by giving
[26:27]you two eyelids close them don't look at the haram save yourself
[26:30]from falling in the sins now these are the signs of allah
[26:45]if you want to be successful you have to attempt to go
[26:51]over the challenging path and what is this path of challenges what
[27:03]is this path that every single person should attempt to take in
[27:07]order to get closer to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he says you
[27:13]want you want god to save you you want to be on
[27:17]the good side with god free a slave free a soul free
[27:21]a life if you see someone who's suffering help this person if
[27:27]you see someone who's enslaved support this person there are some narrations
[27:31]that say freeing a person is by educating them if you educate
[27:34]a person then you're freeing this person you're giving this person the
[27:38]potential to live a better life a more free life you're empowering
[27:43]them with knowledge so or feeding people in a time of famine
[27:53]when there's hunger my dear brothers and sisters right now we all
[27:58]know what's going on in lebanon right now there's hunger there this
[28:03]is the time for you this is the day of mask this
[28:08]is the day of difficulty if you want to pass the akaba
[28:15]the akaba in this dunya you have to pass but we could
[28:23]educate people we could empower people through knowledge we could help people
[28:30]meaning in a day of hunger not when people are comfortable that
[28:34]time you could go spend other things but when people when you're
[28:39]hearing people that are hungry people that don't have the basic necessities
[28:42]that's the time that you have to step forward that's what we
[28:47]have to do and hear the hadith from rasulullah he says [Music]
[29:06]meaning allah will open the gates of paradise for you till you
[29:11]go because you came out of your way to feed someone who
[29:13]was hungry this is what allah loves in a person because god
[29:17]is the kareem god is the one who's feeding us if god
[29:22]sees us taking care of others then that will make allah pleased
[29:26]with us then what kind of a poor person here at amen
[29:33]an orphan if you see an orphan two different opinions makraba is
[29:42]from karaba meaning from your relatives if you have a relative if
[29:46]you have family who have orphans you have to support them don't
[29:49]wait for anyone else don't wait for organizations no you you do
[29:54]it here yatim and another meaning of they say is meaning when
[30:02]the stomach is attached to the back because someone is so hungry
[30:07]meaning the stomach is so close it's so empty that it's attached
[30:12]to the back so this is one opinion as well if there's
[30:20]a mesquite if there's a poor person the metraba is from the
[30:26]word tarab meaning that this person is so poor they are sitting
[30:28]on the soil they have nothing they are so empty-handed they have
[30:32]nothing yes oh miskinan da mata when they would bring food for
[30:44]him you know they have the nice plates of food that has
[30:47]all the variety of food imam you tell them bring me a
[30:52]plate before he eats he says bring me another plate they bring
[30:54]him a plate he takes the best pieces from this the best
[30:59]pieces from that the best pieces from every item on the food
[31:01]on the table and then he would say go and give it
[31:04]to one of the poor people these are the imams of the
[31:10]bayt we have so much food and so much food is wasted
[31:12]every day my dear brothers and sisters let us make an effort
[31:17]to take from the best food and give it to those who
[31:21]are in need and above all to be one of those who
[31:32]have faith and urge each other to have perseverance and urge urge
[31:38]each other to be compassionate with other people this is the sign
[31:42]of a movement god is telling you what a movement is feeding
[31:46]people feeding the orphan taking care of people showing compassion showing patience
[31:52]with other people those are the people of the right and well
[32:03]those who reject the truth those who when you tell them give
[32:09]a i gave i s some people that's all they're just talking
[32:18]about allah they will have a fire closing in on them my
[32:31]dear brothers and sisters this is surat a short surah but with
[32:38]many important lessons let us take these lessons and learn from them
[32:41]in our lives you
