Seeing Imam Mahdi (aj) | Ayatollah Jawadi Amoli
Transcript:
Ayatollah Bahjat was once asked, "What should we do to reach the presence of the Imam [Mahdi] (aj)?" He said that the great ones have said that should you be a good person, the Imam (aj) will see you.
What is important is that he (aj) sees us, not that we see him (aj).
There was not a lack of those who [attended] the mosque of the Prophet (s), which is the most important mosque on earth after Masjid al-Haram. And they used to pray their five daily prayers behind the Prophet (s). Sometimes, they would shake hands with him (s). They used to see the Prophet (s) five times a day. He was the prophet of God. But the Prophet (s) did not see them [i.e., with special attention and favor].
Ayatollah Bahjat said that the great ones from the people of ma'rifat would say that you should be a good person, so that the Imam (aj) sees you. Otherwise, just seeing the outward [physical form] of the Imam (aj) doesn't have an effect. Because weren't there those who, in the early years of Islam, used to [physically] see their Prophet (s), but they didn't have a good ending? So what is important is that he (aj) sees us, not that we see him (aj).
Regarding God, the Exalted, we say, "Oh Allah!" many times. But He must speak to us. God says that He will not speak to some people, He will not look at some people. God is "the Seer of all things" and "Allah is the Witness of all things" [Qur'an]. Is it possible for something to not be known, witnessed, observed, or heard by God? This is not possible. In several places of the Qur'an, it says that God will not speak to some people. "And Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection" [Qur'an]. God will not look at some people. "And He will not look at them" [Qur'an]. So what is important is that he (aj) sees us, not that we see him (aj).
