[0:30]with with certain types of OCD in Arabic we call this waswas

[0:37]there are many types of OCD one type involves cleaning and contamination

[0:43]in which someone develops an obsession with cleaning everything around them or

[0:50]they see everything around them contaminated then you've got the OCD with

[0:55]Symmetry and order everything must be perfectly neat then there is the

[1:03]type of OCD that involves constantly checking on something or it could

[1:10]involve hoarding things and basically OCD is a state in which a

[1:15]person is attacked with intrusive thoughts now OCD has many causes such

[1:25]as childhood trauma it could be stress it could be genetically predisposed

[1:30]depression can also be a cause and even hormonal imbalances in the

[1:35]brain can lead to OCD now one common type of OCD among

[1:41]practicing Muslims in our communities is OCD or with ritual acts of

[1:50]worship with such as Salah prayer and some people keep having excessive

[1:57]doubts about their prayers is my Salah valid or not am I

[2:02]in unit one unit 2 unit 3 unit four sometimes numerous times

[2:05]a day this happens for some people some people waste hours and

[2:12]hours on and constantly trying to wash themselves to achieve the state

[2:21]of avolution some people think their whole house is NES everywhere they

[2:26]go is NES and they're constantly trying to purify themselves now this

[2:31]type of OCD can have natural causes such as some of those

[2:38]that we mentioned but there is one unseen spiritual metaphysical cause and

[2:45]that is The Whispers of Shan as the imams of have taught

[2:51]us you see for some people Shan knows that he cannot tell

[2:57]them to stop praying because he know he knows that that they

[3:01]won't budge Shan knows this person is going to pray I cannot

[3:07]get this person to stop praying so what does Shan do Shan

[3:11]comes up with plan b instead Shan deflates you and kills your

[3:17]passion to pray I'll make prayers so burdensome on this person such

[3:24]that this person cannot enjoy prayer anymore that's one of the tactics

[3:29]of shaan so when it comes to this type of OCD that

[3:34]involves religious acts of worship ritual Purity what is the solution I

[3:41]will highlight two effective strategies to combat this type of religious OCD

[3:45]and I'm sure my dear brothers and sisters you all know someone

[3:49]who's struggling with OCD so it's important that we communicate these two

[3:54]solutions to them the first solution the first strategy to combat this

[4:00]type of OCD to illustrate the solution I'll ask you a question

[4:08]when traveling do you pray short or do you pray full so

[4:14]when it comes to which is four units four units four units

[4:22]when you're at home in your hometown you pray full for units

[4:25]but if you're traveling to another city to another state state to

[4:30]another country and you're staying there in that W City less than

[4:37]10 days or on your way to get there you have to

[4:40]pray you have to pray short instead of praying for you're going

[4:47]to pray too now if now imagine if someone keeps doubting his

[4:52]prayer and he says no I want to do four not two

[4:57]what would you say to this person you would say to this

[4:58]person look God wants you to pray to when you're traveling not

[5:03]for the person keeps arguing with you and tells you no no

[5:08]no but I feel like something is missing I want to pray

[5:10]for because if I pray to I feel like my Salah is

[5:14]deficient it's missing something you will say to this person no God

[5:18]wants to if you're going to do four when traveling you're no

[5:24]longer worshipping Allah subhana wa ta'ala God does not want that don't

[5:30]you want to worship god well he wants to not four apply

[5:35]this concept to ocv you are being super meticulous and you're redoing

[5:42]your W you're redoing your you're spending an hour purifying yourself in

[5:46]the shower in order for what what's your purpose you will tell

[5:53]me in order to worship God I want to make sure that

[5:55]my prayer is valid and it's not missing anything right what well

[6:03]God does not want you to do that he simply doesn't period

[6:06]if you do that you're no longer worshiping Allah subhana wa tala

[6:10]God commands you to ignore these doubts do your Wu quickly your

[6:17]W should not take more than a minute your should not take

[6:20]more than five minutes if it is then you're not worshiping God

[6:25]the way that he wants and you're wasting the resources that God

[6:29]has given us even if you feel that something is missing because

[6:34]that's the trick that your brain or Shan play on you they

[6:39]tell you no no no my Salah is invalid every everywhere is

[6:41]I'm not on I'm not on even if you feel something is

[6:46]missing that's how God wants it from you period just like the

[6:49]two during yeah your prayer is missing two units your is not

[6:55]going to be four it's going to be two but that's exactly

[6:57]how God wants it from you period so this is the first

[7:05]solution as we think of a strategy to overcome OCD involving religious

[7:11]acts of worship the second solution the second strategy is to think

[7:18]of the various laws that Islam has instituted to help us avoid

[7:26]excessive doubts so that we don't feel acts of worship become burdensome

[7:29]for instance we have a law called if we want to literally

[7:38]translate it that's the law of exceeding when you move from one

[7:42]part to another part and you exceed that part according to an

[7:48]authentic narration Z who was one of the companions of and Z

[7:55]asks several questions about doubts and prayer for instance he tells the

[8:04]IM there is a man this person went into his but he

[8:09]developed doubts about his recitation did I recite the fat correctly did

[8:15]I recite the Surah correctly did I even recite the F or

[8:19]no but now you're in the state of the said let him

[8:23]move on ignore that doubt and your prayer is valid then IM

[8:31]gives a general rule a general principle to Z the tells him

[8:45]anytime you leave an act or a part and you enter a

[8:56]new act ignore your doubt you're in and you doubt did I

[8:59]do my properly or not ignore that doubt you've now reached the

[9:06]next part in prayer ignore you see this beautiful law helps us

[9:11]ignore excessive doubts you're in your prayer you doubt some thing that

[9:15]you did in the previous like the previous part just ignore it

[9:21]don't make prayer burdensome on you and let these doubts distract you

[9:26]and deflate your desire to worship Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so this

[9:31]is another law is called basically the law of completion anytime you

[9:38]finish any ritual any act and you doubt whether it's valid or

[9:45]not you consider it to be valid you did your you did

[9:46]your you did your you went back home you went back to

[9:50]your hotel did I do my ta properly I don't know that

[9:55]I goof that I mess up I don't know it's a doubt

[10:00]ignore the doubt consider your valid consider your valid consider your valid

[10:05]consider your Salah valid after wo you doubt did I do wo

[10:11]properly or no did I miss a part or no did I

[10:16]wipe my head or no all doubts after you're done with your

[10:22]ignore these doubts this is called these laws help us avoid excessive

[10:29]doubts and then we have the law of for those who are

[10:34]struggling with Purity everything is NIS around me Allah has given us

[10:41]a beautiful law to avoid these doubts making life miserable for us

[10:46]with respect to Purity we assume everything everything to be pure unless

[10:52]we know that it is impure and we cannot simply assume don't

[10:58]assume things are NE by default they're pure one common example that

[11:04]I get asked about is you go to a restaurant and there

[11:08]are non-muslim workers there let's say they're not from the people of

[11:13]the book They're not Christians or Jews and they bring you food

[11:18]now I don't know is this food impure or not did those

[11:27]restaurant workers employees touch the food with what hand or the food

[11:31]was wet and therefore they made it NES or not it's a

[11:35]doubt I don't know I did not see what happened with my

[11:39]own eyes in this state if you have a doubt the law

[11:41]of Purity applies you can consider it to be pure and Hal

[11:46]maybe they wore gloves as they were handling that food it's definitely

[11:50]possible maybe they did not directly touch it you don't know so

[11:57]you cannot say this is NIS and you can't tell your friends

[11:59]all of you are eating n's food unless you saw with your

[12:04]own eyes sure anytime you have certainty the law the law of

[12:08]Purity does not apply but the guiding principle is that Allah wants

[12:14]ease for us Allah does not want to make religion burdensome on

[12:21]us such that we become miserable Allah States beautifully in the Holy

[12:26]Quran Allah wants ease for you Allah does not want excessive difficulties

[12:36]to burden you so these are some of the strategies to combat

[12:40]OCD finally if OCD is severe I definitely recommend seeing a good

[12:46]therapist in such cases sometimes medical help medical intervention must be s
