[0:03][Music] [Music] hey my dear respected brothers and sisters wherever you may
[0:34]be let's continue with our tafsir of the holy quran and tonight
[0:37]we'll look at surah 107 of the holy quran suratul plate i
[0:44]mean surat i actually bought on my own with me and any
[0:48]arathi will know very well that the maroon or the main at
[0:53]home are fundamental for your meal for your dish for the food
[0:55]you're eating and so on and for allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to
[1:01]name asura is something quite extraordinary as we've had which are named
[1:09]after nba like yusuf alayhi islam we have so are which are
[1:14]named after tribes for example like bani israel or their sword which
[1:19]are named for example after let's say a monumental event that's taken
[1:26]place but why would the lord name asura literally my own for
[1:30]all of us means plate but if you think about a plate
[1:36]every human being should have a plate at home as a basic
[1:40]necessity and you've got to be the lowest human being in the
[1:48]world to not wish for another human to have something on that
[1:52]plate do you agree so for example you wish for somebody to
[1:56]at least have some salt on their plate or you wish for
[2:00]somebody to at least have some bread on their plate or you
[2:06]wish for somebody to have some vegetables or some fruits on their
[2:12]plate would you agree with me that there are some people in
[2:14]the world who don't have that on their plate or maybe don't
[2:18]even own a plate i've traveled to certain parts of the world
[2:23]where i've seen people who do not have cutlery at home for
[2:29]us knife and fork is taken for granted in some cases we'll
[2:34]go to the most luxurious of the luxurious when it comes to
[2:37]the cutlery we have at home and that's why for us as
[2:40]muslims one of the biggest problems we have in islamic law is
[2:43]eating from that you know pure silver cutlery because it takes you
[2:48]to a world where you can't even empathize with those who don't
[2:53]have any cutlery at home every human being in the world deserves
[2:56]daily necessities and when you're looking at this chapter of the holy
[3:04]quran it really is trying to highlight to us that we should
[3:07]never be of those who push away or turn away or drive
[3:13]away or act rudely or arrogantly with those who don't have the
[3:17]necessities that we've taken for granted in life i may have been
[3:24]born into a family where my reserve in terms of wealth has
[3:29]literally been what they call a silver spoon upbringing why do they
[3:31]call it a silver spoon upbringing why not give it any other
[3:35]name it's because silver spoon upbringing is that upbringing where everything's been
[3:41]laid on a plate for me it's been laid on a table
[3:45]for me but i also recognize that there are moments when i'm
[3:48]walking the streets of london that i can look at somebody who
[3:51]might be by a motorway or by a highway and they have
[3:55]nothing to eat that night let alone have no plate for the
[4:00]food to be served on haven't you seen somebody who puts their
[4:03]hand in a trash can and eats directly from the trash can
[4:06]when you see that person eating directly from the trash can the
[4:10]reality is he doesn't have the daily necessity both in terms of
[4:14]cutlery and in terms of the food that goes on that cutlery
[4:19]what surat in my own wanted to highlight was those of you
[4:23]who believe in a day of judgment should never reach a position
[4:31]where you are judgmental of others or looking down at others who
[4:34]don't have what you have in life let's look at the surah
[4:41]bismillah raheem s normally it may be translated if you take it
[4:47]literally have you seen the one who belies religion but we know
[4:51]very well dean sometimes doesn't get translated as religion sometimes and probably
[4:57]we do this a number of times a day deen refers to
[5:02]the day of judgment which surah is the most obvious surah which
[5:06]we all recite all the time where it's made clear to us
[5:10]that dean or yomideen is referring to yom al-qayama which surah would
[5:16]you say is the one which we always mention fatiha in surat
[5:20]al-fatiha would we say maliki yomideen means he is the master of
[5:31]the day of renumeration sometimes they call it yom al-jazeera do you
[5:34]agree and the whole idea of jazza is if i for example
[5:39]i'm going to do an act in the path of the lord
[5:43]there is an expectation to be reimbursed or enumerated for that act
[5:47]so therefore ara a tell levi you can't be dean is taking
[5:52]us to a world where we are being told have you considered
[6:02]him who belies the day of judgment of the day of judgment

[6:53]only have to mean what doesn't only have to mean religion if
[6:58]you look for example in fatah 82 verse 9 then what does
[7:05]the quran say but you give lie to the day of judgment
[7:14]is what we only live once you've heard that phrase yolo you
[7:21]only live once no such thing as you're going to be raised
[7:25]one day so when you see in the quran abidine don't think
[7:31]it means people who reject religion although in a way in reality
[7:34]if you reject the day of judgment you virtually rejected the religion
[7:37]of islam and christianity and judaism in reality if you look as
[7:43]well another sword which will come to very soon surah 95 of
[7:46]the quran verse number seven so only a few um a few
[7:52]soras later you've all read surah 10 and when you come to
[7:58]verse number seven fama then who can give you the lie after
[8:05]this about the day of judgement here again the idea is about
[8:11]bellying the day of judgment have you considered him who calls what
[8:18]you talk about known as the day of judgment he says it's
[8:23]a lie who does this refer to this refers to abu sufyan
[8:29]of course there are others who are abu sufyan's gang who also
[8:33]used to reject the idea many of you have read the eyes
[8:39]in the quran who's gonna give life to these bones now that
[8:44]they've become powder what was the replies the one who gave life
[8:51]to these bones at the beginning why can't he give life again
[8:53]to these as what's so baffling about the day of judgment and
[8:57]us being resurrected allah created us once it's difficult for allah to
[9:01]have a nation so you had people like people like walid and
[9:10]all of them their major problem and i'll repeat this to you
[9:14]guys many times their major problem isn't believing allah is the creator
[9:19]we already dissected they believe allah their major problem isn't believing in
[9:23]prophethood as such they believe in ibrahim their major problem is the
[9:30]idea of accountability because the idea of accountability used to get on
[9:36]their nerves and when a person dismisses your medina they walk around
[9:41]this earth arrogantly why because the mentality of yolo overtakes them even
[9:47]if i'm going to hurt someone in london who cares i'm going
[9:51]to live one life if i want to oppress someone i'll oppress

[10:16]come for the day you know you can mess about non-stop when
[10:20]it's a supply teacher because the supply teacher is not like that
[10:23]harsh teacher that you have who you know that if i mess
[10:28]about it's what they call it detention suspension expulsion i don't know
[10:30]do they still have these terminologies so even likewise with us had
[10:36]we not had the idea of a yom al-hasab where all of
[10:38]our acts are counted i'm telling you i would have done every
[10:42]haram in the book someone said say isn't i said you can't
[10:44]be saying no i'm saying in front of every camera here and
[10:47]no have i ever been too worried about talking in front of
[10:51]the cameras every haram in the book i would have done it
[10:54]but there's no so why not enjoy everything yes there might be
[10:58]certain limits which even an animal stays away from but on the

[11:48]looking and we all love to do things when people are looking
[11:51]it's a big theme in this particular surah because what this surah
[11:55]is telling us is that if you truly are a person who
[11:58]believes in allah on the day of judgment you wouldn't do the
[12:02]following things because you'd be considering what your lord is watching and
[12:05]you do everything sincerely but if you want to see someone and
[12:09]it could be you one day who acts like there's no such
[12:14]thing as your qiyamah then watch the following categories got these two
[12:26]camels he gives them out whoever wants when no one's looking this
[12:29]year team comes to him excuse me abu sufyan i beg you
[12:33]give me something anna yeah team we are from a poor family
[12:37]we're orphans so i beg you if you can give us some
[12:38]what did he do means to push away get out my face

[13:16]used to get them angry about rasulallah that this guy is a
[13:20]team but somehow he's made it to the top and you'll find
[13:24]that sadly in that society had a person recognize that the basic
[13:30]necessity for all of us when a team comes to me i
[13:35]want to make sure there's something on their own isn't it when
[13:37]a sword has called surat in my own it's because i want
[13:40]to make sure i had them in my plane in my own

[14:30]to be looked after say i was an atheist would i still
[14:36]help an orphan yes i would but the obligation of helping comes
[14:41]from religion and if i'm an atheist it's optional for me to
[14:46]help an orphan or not i could do a charity fundraiser why
[14:50]not and there are many who are not muslim but are good
[14:54]human beings religion someone asked if i find it natural to help
[14:58]an orphan what's the need for dean then the need for deen
[15:01]is that allah says you know that's what you find natural observe
[15:04]it don't just talk it there are many who will say to
[15:09]you one we should give to the eight time do you give
[15:12]but when religion tells you there's a certain sem you have to
[15:16]give every year that goes to the eight time a certain chair
[15:20]it becomes different what you have therefore is have you seen this
[15:28]man abu sufyan he is an example of those who act like
[15:31]there's no yom al-qayam and to ha baby this orphan when you've
[15:35]heard him there's a day you're going to be raised for it
[15:38]there's a day in that film of that moment in mecca you're
[15:44]going to be shown what do you answer your lord an orphan

[15:58]well how many of us would lose sleep by sponsoring an orphan
[16:00]today in a country like iraq or a country like syria really
[16:03]in terms of our bank balance how many of us would lose
[16:09]sleep true when not like abu sufyan the one you're only a
[16:11]team where he like literally pushes you away but the way some
[16:14]of us are behaving with the money we have one may argue
[16:19]we're not far because while we have the money accumulating we are
[16:25]looking at yatama in iraq looking at yatama in surya in afghanistan
[16:28]in pakistan we look at yatama all over the world how many
[16:32]of us have decided that we will look after that orphan my
[16:35]own is empty do you know sometimes even in iraq i met
[16:42]people chicken chicken was a luxury for them to have on a
[16:46]plate anna for me who bought the chicken today someone bought toxic
[16:50]chicken here at least we have some chicken it might be toxic
[16:52]but we have chicken given to us and if that chicken is
[16:56]not a certain level if it's not organic i cause a fuss
[16:58]and i want organic chicken and so why have you bought me
[17:01]this chicken from down the road seven pieces for 15 p or
[17:07]something i want to organic chicken hardly a team he can't even
[17:09]ask it's a luxury for him either leather you know dean you
[17:17]want to see someone who has no respect for you and he
[17:27]doesn't encourage giving towards or feeding the poor namely two words in
[17:33]the quran for me for poor for poor if you see someone

[17:51]a fakir a must they both appear in the same ayah is
[18:01]there any i in the quran where the muslim and the both
[18:07]appear yes in surah around verse number 60 of surah you'll see
[18:12]that the messkin and the fakir both appear in the same ayah
[18:21]surah 9 verse number 16 allah says is to be paid towards
[18:36]the poor and the needy i think it's very interesting this is
[18:44]a very interesting device here amiskeen in the quran and in islamic
[18:53]law a misskeen is a fakir unless both words come in one
[18:58]eye then they distinguish between them as scheme and between what is
[19:02]a and the distinguishing i could go into but it's a long
[19:07]legal discussion however more important for me is what's the difference in
[19:12]the origin of both of them have this idea that your movement
[19:19]is derailed in which sense in english what is that you'll always

[20:59]have meant for example that he doesn't give watch he doesn't give
[21:04]or feed the poor well means he doesn't encourage the giving to
[21:12]the poor one of the greatest acts that you can ever perform
[21:16]is not just giving to the poor but encouraging the giving allah
[21:21]and this ayah said do you know what the problem with abu
[21:26]sufyan is abu sufyan's arrogance is so much that not only does
[21:29]he deny the day of judgment because of his denial when an
[21:32]orphan comes to him he pushes them away when the poor need
[21:36]food abu sufyan has so much money but doesn't encourage others to
[21:41]feed the poor why because there is a disease in him a
[21:44]disease that boots pharmacy or any other pharmacy cannot cure and what
[21:48]is it stinginess or what's the root of not giving bache major
[21:53]diseases if i walk into now boots pharmacy and i go to
[21:57]them i i'd like a prescription please say for what say uh
[22:00]for stinginess he'll look at me and this guy's nuts he's like
[22:04]what's wrong with you i said no i've got a disease i've
[22:06]got a disease called stinginess i'm making three four figures every month
[22:13]i find it difficult to give to the poor not just i
[22:18]find it difficult i don't encourage others to do it bro why
[22:21]are you giving to them for all you know these guys are
[22:24]the type of guys who for example will go off and drink
[22:27]how many times you hear people you see him homeless and someone

[23:36]other are earning pretty much similar or may live in similar areas
[23:39]you might live in an area where the average price of the
[23:42]house is a couple of million pounds your friends say next year
[23:46]is living just up the road why is it you can donate
[23:48]five grand and he can't when you give part of giving is

[25:22]back and encourage others that bro come on last week we went
[25:25]on holiday we spent a couple of grand now we've come to
[25:28]this fundraiser that you've donated 250 quid and that's when people always
[25:32]will say to me say you know if i buy a ferrari
[25:35]is it a salaf i say well firstly if you're earning a
[25:37]hundred million pounds and you buy a ferrari that's pocket change but
[25:41]secondly if you can spend a couple of hundred grand on a
[25:45]ferrari and you can donate a couple of hundred grand to your
[25:47]local mosque buy a ferrari but if you're spending 200 grand on
[25:50]a ferrari and you don't give more than 500 pounds to your
[25:53]locals there's a problem you've got to reassess the priorities islam didn't
[25:57]say don't enjoy life islam said enjoy but don't be of those
[26:03]who don't encourage the giving back but islam also said something else
[26:07]some of you guys get away with giving what you start saying
[26:12]is things like you see anna i give to charity assalamu asallah
[26:15]the main thing is i'm a good human being why because there
[26:23]are many he goes bro do you know how much i give
[26:25]to the orphans and said you know how much i've given to
[26:27]the mosque because the mosque and the orphans is always a cover
[26:31]for one's haram that year so what do i do i end
[26:38]up being a muslim who has not understood religion isn't that i

[27:59]when i say i don't mind who am i to mind or
[28:00]not to mind but i'm saying generally it's okay if someone's forgotten
[28:04]it happens it happens there's no issue there but to forget and
[28:11]reach a level where i don't care anymore then you don't believe
[28:17]in qiyama he said no i believe in qurayam i believe it
[28:22]no no you don't believe in qiyamah if you believed in qayama
[28:25]then you'd know that you have a meeting with the lord of
[28:27]coming up if you couldn't turn up for these meetings how are
[28:31]you going to do with those meetings and the prime example where
[28:39]people reach a stage is where they move around as if salah
[28:44]doesn't mean anything anymore to them they'll all go out i don't
[28:49]mind if guys are going out say you're going out 8 p.m
[28:51]9 p.m when salah comes you'll always know is there six of
[28:55]you seven of you sitting down three four get up there's two
[29:01]hunger one girl and why are you not getting gum okay let's
[29:04]see the reasons one of them he might be in the state
[29:07]of jannah by the poor guy but he doesn't want to tell
[29:12]everyone so he's saying there's a question a second one is literally
[29:18]because he's just thinking to himself i don't feel it and the
[29:24]other problem are the friends who are sitting watching i'm not saying

[29:30]happened why do you care for salah or i've noticed that you're

[29:40]channels islamic television channels they work as cameramen in channels they don't
[29:44]pray oh he's working for what islamic channel he doesn't pray that's
[29:51]okay there are people who come to a majority of imam hussain
[29:54]they don't pray the whole year wallah you'll see him crying nonstop
[29:58]imam al-hussein is a miracle of course because he can attract even
[30:02]those who are far away and maybe those majalis maybe is what
[30:07]changes them but the last thing he wanted was a person who
[30:12]in ziyarah says and he doesn't pray is a moment you don't
[30:20]ever want to reach because there is a difference between someone nitro
[30:24]kasala someone who has left salah and someone who just doesn't even
[30:29]care that he misses salah the one who sometimes leaves salah he
[30:32]comes back forth then you get to that stage where you don't
[30:37]care anymore oh the only thing you do care about is what

[31:00]problem of those who don't believe in the day of judgment or
[31:03]haven't understood the day of judgment why the base of the day
[31:05]of judgment is the near behind that's the whole of the day
[31:10]of judgment if someone wants to define for you behind you someone
[31:13]says isn't it the amount of i have no what's the near
[31:22]behind if my knee in salah or any other act is showing
[31:24]off or to do it for other than allah i can fall
[31:29]in the state of so what's allah subhanahu wa ta'ala doing in

[32:28]plate to eat on get that food for example someone says have
[32:32]you paid your homes and you'll hear all sorts of excuses one
[32:36]excuse you'll hear when it comes to paying the homes is what
[32:40]one excuse is you know saying no i don't know where my
[32:42]money goes and just stay from the gym you don't want to
[32:46]pay enter for a meal in a restaurant you don't pay it's
[32:49]or i know you're not going to pay anything because you already
[32:51]are a stingy human on the earth a second person will come
[32:55]and say to you what let's say it not even know i
[32:59]have to pay homs like it never occurred to me that you
[33:01]know one-fifth of you know the annual surplus income that i have

[35:10]ensuring that the daily necessities of the local area were looked after

[35:18]spent in the right place or wasn't given back to that person

[35:26]that you're eating that food on it could mean the avenues and
[35:31]the activities that ensure that people's plates are full because of your
[35:36]behavior you've blocked people from ensuring that this was done therefore the

[35:43]of us should never be in a moment or an environment where
[35:46]we see someone whose daily necessities cannot be looked after who will
[35:53]move on to the athan and then we'll come back moving from
