[0:00][Music] Muhammad when we continue to go on this journey and looking

[0:32]at the character and competence that we learn from some of the

[0:35]characteristics that we can be inspired by as we continue in our

[0:38]personal development in our journey of growth whether it be in the

[0:42]holy month of Ramadan or any other time during the year we're

[0:44]looking at The Life and Legacy of IMI where yes when demanded

[0:50]to you know put his life on the line when demanded to

[0:52]you know enter the battlefield Imam was the first and the foremost

[0:57]the other challenges that come through and ones that are important for

[1:06]us to reflect on um are when the prophet peace and blessings

[1:09]be upon him when it came to the time of his passing

[1:13]when the prophet uh passed away you're looking at a a culmination

[1:21]of so many victories so many triumphs all these battles that we

[1:25]had mentioned and then finally the conquest of of Mecca where the

[1:28]Muslims had returned to Mecca and had had a bloodless Conquest took

[1:31]over Mecca basically the pagans of qures at this time they waved

[1:38]the the White Flag um and they they gave up they gave

[1:40]in they saw the 10,000 man army of the Prophet they're like

[1:45]we can't face this remember the Muslims in the earliest days they

[1:49]in the first battle the battle of bad they had 300 about

[1:54]300 men now which is just about you know eight years later

[1:58]less than a decade later you have 10,000 men that are going

[2:05]into battle going into taking back Mecca bloodless Conquest Mecca is back

[2:10]to the Muslims the Muslims perform uh pilgrimage uh in in Mecca

[2:15]at the Kaa and the prophet at this point being the last

[2:19]year of his life after the conquest of Mecca of course the

[2:23]last year of his life um he performs the the farewell pilgrimage

[2:27]and gives the farewell speech um at which was a somewhat of

[2:34]a middle point between Mecca and Medina after they finished the pilgrimage

[2:39]going back home Revelation came uh to the prophet to deliver this

[2:43]final message this final Proclamation he did so in this place called

[2:47]and one of the most important messages that he shared was the

[2:55]U Proclamation that IM was his successor the famous call whoever I

[3:06]am his master this is his master so you have all of

[3:11]this and then the prophet passes away in 632 ad when the

[3:17]prophet passes away though the Proclamation was clear according to the history

[3:23]that we're reading the Muslim Community did not altogether follow the instruction

[3:30]of the prophet and now of course um you know different schools

[3:35]of thought differ on how they read this history but when when

[3:39]you're looking at these narrations and you're seeing what happened and especially

[3:45]keeping in mind what took place with that um what had led

[3:49]up to this and the death of the Prophet Sall happened at

[3:54]his deathbed and then what happened afterwards the Muslim Community did not

[3:59]essentially move move in that direction as the prophet had instructed instead

[4:03]there was a group that had appointed amongst themselves another leader who

[4:09]became the first CI and IMI was at this very time when

[4:16]they were making this new appointment um was doing the burial RIT

[4:19]rituals of the Prophet uh the prophet hadn't actually been buried yet

[4:23]and already there was a new appointed uh individual for the caliph

[4:27]now again this is a very sensitive time [Music] [Music] me in

[5:30]my personal capacity I will do what the Muslims do and the

[5:36]reason why the IM kind of took this position was he wanted

[5:38]to protect Islam if you look at the movement of and you

[5:42]read their history and you look at the uh the writings of

[5:48]our Scholars there's an emphasis on two primary objectives those two primary

[5:51]objectives are the protection safeguarding of religion the faith and protecting safeguarding

[6:03]um the sanctity of life right so look at this very sensitive

[6:08]time IM especially with the will of the prophet and this is

[6:14]something that's that's known within our history is that the prophet had

[6:17]willed had told IMI instructed him that there is going to be

[6:20]transgression against you and I don't want you to mobilize any forces

[6:25]or fight against these individuals especially given the fact that you're going

[6:29]to have a very few number of people that are going to

[6:31]support you and the understanding here from this is what we understand

[6:34]from our scholar is that Islam was too young too um too

[6:41]much in its infancy that any kind of mobilization on IM Ali's

[6:46]part uh even if he desired it which of course the IM

[6:50]is not Desiring anything but the will of the prophet and the

[6:53]will of God ultimately it it would have destroyed Islam and this

[6:58]is so important for us to realize within our context because when

[7:03]you're looking at leadership and you're looking at the hard decisions that

[7:10]need to be made um in our lives in our spaces something

[7:13]may not necessarily be popular may not necessarily be uh even uh

[7:18]you know maybe what you would initially expect because hey it's not

[7:23]right it's not right for them to do that but sometimes you're

[7:29]demanded to look at the bigger picture in fact not sometimes all

[7:33]the time you have to be looking at the bigger picture and

[7:37]for IM the bigger picture was protecting Islam and protecting and safeguarding

[7:43]the the blood and sanctity of of people because again like we

[7:47]said this was a very sensitive time there was a um a

[7:51]a power play there was a power struggle if if you will

[7:54]um during this this time um and Imam was not willing to

[8:01]risk uh anything being um you know any person being hurted or

[8:06]any any person being hurt or or Islam ultimately uh being hurt

[8:12]by by this so he sacrificed his own personal rights stayed in

[8:18]the background um but continued to play an instrumental role in making

[8:22]sure that things wouldn't go too far left or too far right

[8:26]so much so that the SE even the second kff who would

[8:28]come into power uh just two years and a few months after

[8:34]the first caliphate uh would say if it were not for Ali

[8:37]I would have perished and the reason for that is IM Alam

[8:43]was essentially um an advisor nearby making sure that you know things

[8:47]were at least on the very bare minimum to protect uh Islam

[8:50]so we see from this and something that we need to continue

[8:56]to reflect on and think about and Ponder on is how important

[8:58]it is for us to see the bigger picture of our faith

[9:03]the bigger picture of our role and protecting that Faith whether it

[9:07]be looking at our our history uh and or looking at our

[9:13]modern time and our context today
