[1:16]waha soba soba sadaqa allahu allahu allah ma sha allah muhammad wa
[1:22]ala muhammad it has been narrated from our if Imam Imam Ali
[1:37]Abunimah Sahaba salawatu lava salam wa ali that he observed his father
[1:42]al imam moussa al karim salawats allah wa sallam wali that when
[1:51]the eve of the first of the month of Muharram would show
[1:57]up that his father le man with calamari salaam was never to
[2:08]be seen publicly displaying joy and happiness and that he would who
[2:15]would not smile and he would not laugh he would not display
[2:19]that and every day from the first all the way until the
[2:31]10th of Muharram his public display of sorrow and grief would increase
[2:38]day after day until the tenth day the day of Muharram the
[2:42]day of ashura in which he was most sorrowful in which he
[2:48]would be overcome with grief he would be overwhelmed with sorrow and
[2:57]he would teach the followers of a debate that on that day
[3:00]the Day of Ashura was the day that Imam Hussain Hadi Saddam
[3:06]was massacred and that intentionally it was not a day of happiness
[3:11]not a day of rejoice but rather a day of sorrow and
[3:17]a day of sadness so from the beginning of the month of
[3:20]Muharram there is a build up there is a there is an
[3:28]anticipation all the way up until the tenth day which is the
[3:31]Day of Ashura and the Quran reminds us of this in a
[3:39]very general sense in Chapter number 103 solet Allosaurus Mila rahmanir rahim
[3:44]well as in l-insana leve horse so there is the mention of
[3:53]time us and of course God swears by time the Wow in
[4:00]the beginning of the first verse is wha will possum which is
[4:04]when God wants to swear by something he uses Wow Wilkinson while
[4:08]a so he swears by time and if you notice that word
[4:16]awesome in the Arabic language it is used to describe the later
[4:24]portion of the day the afternoon when the day begins to wind
[4:27]down so the the ass or prayer for instance is the prayer
[4:34]the the final prayer of the day that is done before the
[4:38]mother lip time before the Sun sets its during the afternoon portion
[4:45]of the day the final portion of the day and within that
[4:51]name we understand what it means so if you take the word
[4:58]awesome I mean Saad Allah the verb isara in Arabic means to
[5:03]squeeze so if you have a product that you're you know it's
[5:10]like squeezing the toothpaste out of the tube it's whatever is left
[5:16]the final part it has to be squeezed out and so in
[5:23]that meaning there's a meaning of scarcity meaning that there's not a
[5:29]whole lot which is left so if you were to apply that
[5:32]to the general meaning of the word awesome which is time because
[5:38]when God is swearing by while awesome in this verse it's not
[5:42]just by the afternoon but by time in general well us in
[5:50]l-insana let me host built into that meaning is the idea that
[5:56]this time that you humanity have on earth in itself is already
[6:01]scarce it's not in abundance it's not something that lasts forever there's
[6:09]a certain portion of time that you live on this earth that
[6:13]humanity lives on this earth and that this earth exists we know
[6:20]that this universe cannot be infinite in this world that we live
[6:24]in and this earth that we live on cannot be infinite it
[6:26]doesn't continue in an infinite matter I mean putting just putting religion
[6:34]aside and putting faith aside and looking at it from a purely
[6:41]biological and geological point of view allah subhanaw taala says because of
[6:49]that nature of the fact that this this time is scarce because
[6:55]of that in al-insana la vie hora understand that if you are
[7:00]not moving forward you are moving behind you are falling behind and
[7:05]there's really nothing we can do to control time even the word
[7:14]time management when we say time management time management is a misnomer
[7:19]because you can't manage time the only thing you can manage is
[7:23]yourself nobody has more than 24 hours in a day there's not
[7:30]a person on this earth that has 27 or 28 hours in
[7:32]a day someone who's very special or or very lucky in that
[7:39]regard and so there's there's very there's very limited time and so
[7:43]when your time comes to pass from this realm to another there's
[7:47]nothing really that you can do in order to prevent that allah
[7:54]subhanho wa taala says in the quran Farage elohim la coruna saw
[7:58]attend well I have sucked the moon if they're agile and some
[8:05]translate this word agile into doom if their doom is imminent if
[8:14]it's impending there's nothing that you can do in order to extend
[8:17]or even to haste in it which is interesting because if you
[8:22]think of the loss of life you would think well most people
[8:25]when they're faced with this reality they want to extend it they
[8:30]want a few more hours a few more days a few more
[8:32]moments but there are people that are on the other side that
[8:39]life becomes so painful for them that they don't want it they
[8:42]don't want to live for another month they don't want to live
[8:46]for another week they don't want to live for another day they
[8:49]want their life to be taken away from them right now in
[8:56]fact I was I was looking this up just recently and there's
[9:01]a medical terminology that they use in in some circles they refer
[9:06]to the cases of imminent doom doom or impending doom and there
[9:15]are certain situations where a person is is faced with with certain
[9:21]challenges health-wise that even though it's not life-threatening in itself but they
[9:30]feel like they're about to lose their life so if you've ever
[9:33]seen someone go through a very intense panic attack or an anxiety
[9:37]attack or intense depression which is a state of mind which also
[9:47]has its physical barring but physically they're far from death however they
[9:52]see themselves as close to death in fact there are even some
[9:56]toxins and poisons which when they enter the body give the person
[9:59]a feeling that they are about to die even though it's very
[10:04]treatable there's a certain type of jellyfish that if you're unlucky enough
[10:07]to be stung by it it's poison doesn't only affect your body
[10:11]doesn't only make you incapacitated and unable to move but mentally it
[10:16]makes you believe that you're about to lose your life that's the
[10:19]effect of the toxin it's the effect of the poison and this
[10:26]state is called imminent doom or impending doom sometimes even when emergency
[10:32]responders when they when they arrive to a scene of an accident
[10:36]some of them are there they are trained to deal with a
[10:44]situation called imminent doom where they know that nothing that they can
[10:47]do for this patient is going to extend their life there's nothing
[10:50]that they can do for instance they know that they're about to
[10:53]fall into cardiac arrest or that they're losing so much blood that
[11:00]there's nothing that you can do for this person imminent doom imminent
[11:04]death the agenda home life that fairness I attend what I stuck
[11:09]the moon so it's really not guaranteed this time that allah subhanho
[11:14]wa taala talks about it's not there's no quantifiable measure that is
[11:21]guaranteed and I'll give you a personal story I shared this story
[11:25]actually a week ago within our own community in in Southern California
[11:29]I had a friend a classmate who I went to school with
[11:36]who was the same age as me who only 10 days ago
[11:40]was in the Kern River near Bakersfield California and this was a
[11:45]young man who was athletic he put his feet into the river
[11:48]and the river took him away it was on a Saturday and
[11:53]they found his body on a Thursday he passed away nobody expected
[11:56]it to happen nobody knew that it was going to happen he
[12:02]was an athletic young man it had nothing to do with his
[12:04]ability to swim or not swim because once the river takes you
[12:10]that's it the type of river that he fell into so none
[12:13]of us are really guaranteed the Quran tells us the story of
[12:23]the Prophet Sulayman a man who was a king a man who
[12:25]had authority over men and jinn as well if you read surah
[12:31]tauba in the Quran so let's see Bert tells us the kind
[12:35]of power and the kind of authority that the Prophet Sulayman had
[12:38]but when he died he was leaning over on his staff he
[12:44]was overlooking his armies of men and jinn and Allah subhana WA
[12:49]Ta'ala says fella maka bina Allah he'll motor model Allahu Allah Monte
[12:54]he in la da battle arleta column in serrata that when we
[13:02]decreed qivana when we decreed his doom his imminent doom there was
[13:08]nothing that could save him and there was nothing that was an
[13:11]indicator to the armies of jinn that were working for him except
[13:19]for the fact that a termite began to eat away at his
[13:21]wooden staff and finally after a few days he came crashing down
[13:27]like a tree the way a tree comes down you know when
[13:29]they call out timber in the forest and it falls down this
[13:34]was Suleiman the king of kings so nothing nothing Hastings it and
[13:44]nothing delays it nothing that's within your control when your time has
[13:56]come time is the common denominator between everything in our life which
[14:03]is dear everything which has value so if you look at the
[14:06]things in your life that have value what are some of those
[14:13]things relationships relationships have the highest value number one our relationship with
[14:18]allah subhanho wa taala number two our relationship with our nearest of
[14:24]kin our parents our grandparents our family members our siblings our children
[14:31]and then number three our relationship with everybody else our neighbors our
[14:38]smaller community our larger community think about relationships and what enriches relationships
[14:44]the number one factor is time you can't purchase a relationship with
[14:54]God you can't purchase a relationship with the parents you can make
[14:58]them happy if you buy them certain things and they appreciate gifts
[15:02]but that's very temporary you can't purchase your relationship with your neighbors
[15:10]or your community what is it that enriches your relationships is time
[15:16]when you look at for instance your career which is important to
[15:23]you it's how much time you give to your career which determines
[15:28]whether you have a fulfilling career or you don't have a fulfilling
[15:34]career some people they give to less time too little time so
[15:37]that they're not being productive and some people they're giving too much
[15:42]time to where it is being counterproductive in other areas it's being
[15:46]damaging in other areas so if you think about it the most
[15:54]expensive asset that you own is time but unfortunately it is the
[15:58]asset which is most elusive meaning that it is running away from
[16:02]you the more that you try to run after it the more
[16:07]it seems to slip from your fingers so I want to talk
[16:09]about time from a number of aspects number one is the aspect
[16:19]of worship obviously as Muslims we understand that Allah subhana WA Ta'ala
[16:25]has mandated five times a day for our obligatory prayers and those
[16:30]five times a day are spread throughout the day of course there
[16:35]are other prayers which have specific times of the day and the
[16:43]night that they can be performed and those are not mandatory even
[16:46]though they are highly recommended such as Salah to Lael the night
[16:51]prayer and the best time to perform the night prayer is between
[16:56]midnight and right before the federal prayer right before the morning prayer
[17:06]that is primetime when it comes to prayer what we are taught
[17:11]from the school of thought of a debate is to give primetime
[17:18]it's a prayer just like how primetime there's primetime on TV if
[17:23]you turn on the TV from the hours of 6 p.m.
[17:27]to 9 p.m.
[17:27]that's primetime if you're producing the show it's gonna cost you more
[17:33]to have a show be broadcast during those hours then for instance
[17:38]the shows that are broadcast at 12 p.m.
[17:41]or 1 p.m.
[17:43]when most people are at work and you notice a difference in
[17:46]quality if you turn on the TV at 12 p.m.
[17:49]versus if you turn it on at 7 p.m.
[17:53]there's a difference in quality in programming that's called primetime that's why
[18:00]you don't see major sporting events broadcast on a Wednesday at 3
[18:06]p.m.
[18:07]because most people artwork they broadcast them on a Saturday or a
[18:10]Sunday when most people are chilling at home and they want to
[18:16]watch something on TV and sort of escape from their weekly responsibilities
[18:19]physically and mentally and emotionally and spiritually just detach from everything likewise
[18:26]when it comes to your prayers the practice of the Prophet and
[18:31]from the practice of the Prophet and the annual beta alehissalaam we
[18:34]learned that there is a prime time and I'll share one example
[18:37]with you and this comes from the masterpiece truly a masterpiece which
[18:45]is the letter that amirul mumineen Allium never thought about I said
[18:48]I'm wrote to Maliki Lester he says the following he says watch
[18:52]Alan f-ck FEMA vena cava bein Allah your relationship with God place
[18:57]within that of volatile kalma repeat were ideological exam take the best
[19:05]times now who is amirul mumineen communicating with he's not communicating with
[19:11]a layman is communicating with Mallika Ashta who was to be his
[19:18]representative who is his right-hand man who is his general who is
[19:22]his administrator who is his who was to be his governor he
[19:27]says that even though you have major responsibilities ahead of you because
[19:31]it's not like Malik Ashtar was also coming to a position where
[19:38]everything was peaceful no there was there was political turmoil there was
[19:41]a lot going on during that time especially in Egypt where he
[19:45]was appointed to lead even with that Ameer al-mumineen with his wisdom
[19:50]he said look even with everything that you have going on take
[19:56]the best of your times and establish a community or communion with
[20:00]allah subhana wa ta'ala he says even though when it comes to
[20:03]your times there's no such thing as your time with God because
[20:09]all time belongs to allah subhanho wa taala all of your time
[20:12]when you're in the service of allah subhanho wa taala all of
[20:16]it belongs to him sometimes we tend to compartmentalize our life you
[20:22]know work is here family is here friends are here hobbies are
[20:25]here each one has their own space each one has their own
[20:30]compartment and none of them are allowed to interact with one another
[20:34]that's why sometimes you see the father who when it's his hobby
[20:36]time when it's his fun time he wants nothing to do with
[20:41]the family anymore because in his mind he says I've given enough
[20:43]of a responsibility to my family now it's me time if you've
[20:49]ever heard of me time I need some me time and that's
[20:51]fine we we do need some me time but but the point
[20:56]is is that is that the reason why a lot of people
[21:02]get disappointed and upset and burnt out is because they think that
[21:05]they have to have all of these separate compartments in their life
[21:09]and there's no interaction with them at all and nothing can intrude
[21:12]on my hobby time nothing can intrude on my work time I
[21:20]can't sacrifice family time no matter what even sometimes with family time
[21:27]there is sacrifice and I'll get to that but I mean what
[21:30]minion says take the best of your time because you know you
[21:36]don't always feel good you don't always feel at your prime throughout
[21:39]the day there are some times if they were you're tired there
[21:42]are some times where you're slacking sometimes where you feel lazy he
[21:49]says take the best of your time make it a priority and
[21:54]we learned this from the life of imam hussain ali setup amount
[21:58]for saying even on the day of ashura where there was fighting
[22:06]going on in the battlefield even when there was not access to
[22:11]water for him to perform although he sat on the floor of
[22:19]the battlefield alone and performed his prayer even though the enemy was
[22:23]surrounding him why because that time in his opinion was the best
[22:33]time so number one when it comes to our worship and this
[22:37]is based on the idea that look you're never too busy for
[22:44]something something that we have these days a challenge and it's really
[22:48]a mental cop-out if you think about it when someone asks you
[22:52]to do something you say I'm busy instead of being busy you
[22:59]need to ask yourself am I being productive it's easy to be
[23:02]busy life is gonna get you busy if you don't have something
[23:07]to do you're gonna be busy but you need to ask yourself
[23:09]the question rather than am i busy is am I being productive
[23:14]most people they're busy but they're not really being productive so this
[23:19]is time in one area in the area of worship another area
[23:23]is in the area of family and we all understand this common-sense
[23:28]idea that to enrich your time with family it's not about quantity
[23:37]it's about quality it's not about how much time is spent with
[23:42]them it's about the time that you spend with them are you
[23:48]present are you there are you listening are you are you open
[23:51]are you understanding or are you doodling on your phone speaking to
[23:56]somebody else now you may think okay well this is common sense
[24:05]right quality time you need to spend quality time with your family
[24:08]but common sense is not really common practice if you've noticed common
[24:13]sense has not come in practice otherwise we wouldn't really need to
[24:17]talk about any of the basics any of the common sense things
[24:22]because common sense is not common practice then you need a reminder
[24:26]now here's the challenge with quality time quality time is not something
[24:35]you can necessarily plan for sometimes a conversation that a father needs
[24:42]to have with his son or a father needs to have with
[24:46]his daughter or a mother needs to have with her daughter or
[24:49]her son sometimes it's a spontaneous event it's not like you can
[24:56]plan you know I'm going to have this important conversation on Wednesday
[25:00]at 5:45 p.m.
[25:00]sometimes it doesn't happen like that if you've ever needed to have
[25:06]a crucial conversation with someone you realize that it doesn't always go
[25:12]in the way that you plan sometimes you a lot 5 or
[25:17]7 or 10 minutes to a conversation but then that conversation extends
[25:21]itself to 50 and 70 and 90 minutes there was a an
[25:24]author one day he was writing about time management and he was
[25:29]giving an example of his own son he said that I had
[25:34]taught my son how to manage his schedule that from the day
[25:37]before manage your schedule so that when you wake up that day
[25:40]you know exactly what's on your schedule and it's proven by the
[25:44]way if you try this if you plan your day or plan
[25:48]your week one day or one week in advance you're much more
[25:52]organized you thoughts are much more organized and you know what you
[25:55]need to do and you're more likely to get the things that
[25:58]you need to get done throughout the day or throughout the week
[26:00]if you plan it in advance but if you wake up in
[26:03]the morning and you have no idea what you want to do
[26:05]that's why most people don't get anything that they want to get
[26:11]done so he was teaching his son so one day his son
[26:13]had set up his schedule you know run this errand make this
[26:19]phone call go to the grocery store all this stuff within that
[26:24]he had written he was planning to call someone to break off
[26:32]a relationship and he had planned about 15 minutes for that you
[26:36]know sometimes we get very very legalistic with with the way that
[26:40]we want to do it we get very managerial with the way
[26:43]and and sometimes it's a carryover from the way that we were
[26:47]taught to you know accomplish at school or at work so we
[26:49]carry that into our home or we carry that into our other
[26:54]relationships so he had set 15 minutes in order to call this
[26:57]person and break off a relationship with them well what do you
[27:01]think happened with the 15 minutes 15 minutes became almost 15 hours
[27:05]because something as delicate as a relationship you can't just a lot
[27:10]a time and say this is the time that I'm going to
[27:14]dedicate and this is not something which is a science it's more
[27:18]of an art it's something that you understand not just through knowledge
[27:21]but you understand through wisdom the more that you deal with people
[27:27]the more that you work with people the more you begin to
[27:30]develop grace and relationship skills and leadership skills in that regard so
[27:36]one thing that I want to mention is that two principles when
[27:47]it comes to family time number one is a very very simple
[27:51]equation the equation you don't have to be a rocket scientist or
[27:55]or or a math genius to understand this but the equation is
[28:03]that time equals influence if you want influence within your family if
[28:07]you want influence within your community what's the x-factor there it's time
[28:13]so the opposite of that becomes what less time less influence why
[28:18]do I mention that so if you've learned the history of the
[28:26]United States let's let's go back in time for a little bit
[28:29]there was a time where children were for the most part raised
[28:35]by their parents throughout the entire day throughout the entire week throughout
[28:39]the entire month throughout the entire year if you go back before
[28:43]the Industrial Revolution let's go back to the 1700s here in the
[28:49]United States before there was a formal schooling system before you had
[28:53]you know industries like factories that needed manpower here in the United
[29:01]States four out of every five positions the most famous or I'm
[29:06]sorry the most common position the most common trade that a person
[29:10]had was what if you can guess four out of every five
[29:17]what was it does anybody know here in Ohio you haven't much
[29:21]more in California in different areas well actually I take that back
[29:27]no in California it's much more farmer most people were farmers four
[29:31]out of five so what was the one out of five everything
[29:33]else blacksmith goldsmith tailor in both of those situations the way child-rearing
[29:43]happened was that from a time the child was born up until
[29:49]age five or seven they were taken care of by the mother
[29:52]once they reached around seven years old the son became an apprentice
[29:56]to his father so if his father was a farmer the son
[30:03]was working side-by-side with him if the father was a blacksmith or
[30:07]a goldsmith his son was working side-by-side with him and it wasn't
[30:12]until now the earliest document is in the 1600s where the formal
[30:17]schooling system began where children had to be put in school and
[30:22]separated from their parents so now that six hours a day or
[30:29]five hours a day or eight hours a day of time that
[30:33]chunk of time was given somewhat somebody else not the parents so
[30:37]young men and young woman who were raised by their parents didn't
[30:42]have the social issues that existed today such as what such as
[30:52]the identity crisis the point is to make a long story short
[30:55]that the more time that you spend with someone the more you're
[30:59]able to influence them that's why as you're growing up and my
[31:04]advice is to young people is pay attention to the people that
[31:07]you spend the most amount of time with some people say well
[31:11]I can spend time with this person and they can't influence me
[31:16]you're not that special trust me there is no way that you
[31:21]can spend amount of time with a an amount of time with
[31:27]someone without being influenced by them by some way shape or form
[31:30]so think about the people that you're spending the most amount of
[31:33]time with now some of you are thinking well I don't spend
[31:37]time with anyone I spend time with my room you're on your
[31:39]phone you're on your laptop you're on your iPad the person that's
[31:43]on the other side of that you're spending a lot of time
[31:44]with the person that you're following on snapchat and Instagram that's your
[31:50]primary influencer whether you like it or not even if you're following
[31:54]them out of curiosity they begin to influence your subconscious mind whether
[32:00]you know it or not so the simple equation is that time
[32:08]equals influence the more time you spend someone the more you're able
[32:13]to influence them now what does that mean does that mean that
[32:17]we've stopped taking our children to school well some people have moved
[32:21]towards the model of homeschooling and that works for them that's not
[32:27]the point the point is that we have to become very very
[32:31]intentional with the time that we spend with people some parents and
[32:36]I'll speak about parenting cells and in one of the coming nights
[32:39]they believe that it is their responsibility to be their child's best
[32:43]friend your child doesn't need another best friend your child needs a
[32:51]father figure your child needs a mother figure a nurturer your child
[32:56]needs someone who if the world shuts them down you lift them
[33:00]up your child needs someone who if the world teaches them falsehood
[33:08]you teach them truth your child needs someone who if the world
[33:14]shows them darkness you show them light and you're not willing to
[33:19]compromise on those values so time my friends this commodity that is
[33:24]slipping away from us on a daily basis time is what enriches
[33:30]our life it is what it riches our relationship with Allah subhana
[33:34]WA Ta'ala at time is what enriches our relationships with the people
[33:39]around us the point is is we have to become very very
[33:45]strategic with our time one one writer he says the following he
[33:48]says there's a lot of things that you like to do in
[33:54]your life he says write to lists a lot of us we
[33:56]write a to-do list right and most of the time the to-do
[34:00]list does not take it does not get taken care of he
[34:04]says instead of just writing good to-do lists be a little bit
[34:10]more specific write two lists write a like to-do list these are
[34:14]the things that I like to do and then write a half
[34:19]to-do list these are the things that I have to do and
[34:21]most of the times we don't get through our to-do list it's
[34:27]because we don't know or we can't differentiate between the things that
[34:30]we have to do versus the things that we like to do
[34:34]and the reason we can't do that is because we don't know
[34:37]what our values are and what our principles are most of the
[34:42]time we're behaving out of desire so we mix desire with value
[34:45]and sometimes the things that you value are not necessarily the things
[34:53]that you desire we can dedicate another lecture to that that's a
[34:58]much much deeper talk but understanding that you need to be strategic
[35:01]with your time I'll give you an example is everyone familiar with
[35:08]the name Richard Branson you know who Richard Branson is the owner
[35:13]of Virgin America Virgin Atlantic multi-billionaire there is a there's a story
[35:19]they say that one time he was asked to come into an
[35:24]organization and give a speech give a talk for an hour and
[35:26]a half and so because this organization could not get through him
[35:31]directly they went through another party so this party contacted him they
[35:39]said that there's this organization that wants to invite Richard Branson they
[35:42]want him to give a talk for an hour and a half
[35:45]they want an hour and a half of his time and they're
[35:49]willing to pay him $100,000 the secretary said no sorry he can't
[35:54]do it so you know it's uh I go up you go
[36:00]down they thought it was that sort of thing they said okay
[36:05]two hundred and fifty thousand dollars for an hour and a half
[36:09]of his time the reply came back no no can do they
[36:15]said okay we can play that game five hundred thousand dollars were
[36:19]willing to give him and we will fly out our own private
[36:23]jet to go pick him up and as soon as he done
[36:25]drop him back off he said no absolutely not so at this
[36:28]point they were frustrated this organization what's going on they explained the
[36:33]people that were representing him they said that he has three strategic
[36:37]objectives that he wants to complete now it's on his has to
[36:42]do have to do list and we've been given strict instructions that
[36:46]whatever comes across his way if it's an idea a project a
[36:53]business investment a speaking opportunity whatever that comes across that has nothing
[37:00]to do with his strategic objectives we've been given strict orders to
[37:04]reject it no matter how much there is in compensation this is
[37:07]somebody who has focus this is somebody who knows his priorities in
[37:11]life this is someone whose time is so valuable it's worth to
[37:18]him more than $500,000 now you don't have to be the CEO
[37:21]of a company to think like this you don't need to own
[37:25]an airline to think the way that he is thinking there are
[37:27]certain objectives that allah subhanho wa taala has placed within your life
[37:31]that you need to get done in your life and that nobody
[37:36]else is gonna get done except for you and time awesomer is
[37:40]constantly being squeezed away from you it's constantly becoming more scarce and
[37:46]more scarce so when you think about what I need to do
[37:51]one way is to put pen to paper which is a tradition
[37:55]that most people have forgotten today because we have a phone but
[37:59]there's a difference between writing something on your phone and writing something
[38:03]using a pen and putting it on paper what are some of
[38:05]your objectives in life what are some of your objectives when it
[38:11]comes to your relationship with allah subhanaw taala with your wife or
[38:16]husband you with your children with your parents with your community what
[38:20]are some of those strategic objectives that are so valuable that even
[38:26]if someone gave you 1 million dollars you would not walk away
[38:28]from them that it requires your prime time it requires your most
[38:38]prime energy what are some of those objectives the season of Ashura
[38:41]is a season in which we constantly remind ourselves of our objectives
[38:46]as individuals as family members as community members and this is where
[38:52]we draw the vision you know in pop culture there's a there's
[38:57]a a New Year's resolution our New Year's resolution doesn't necessarily take
[39:04]place on January 1st it's on the first of the month of
[39:06]Muharram which marks the new year a year in which amam personally
[39:16]salaam understood what his principal objectives were and if you study his
[39:23]life you realize that he was so clear with his intentions there
[39:33]was no room there was no room for vagueness I mean nobody
[39:35]can look back to the life of imam hussain now and say
[39:39]well he really wasn't clear on his objectives he was completely clear
[39:43]on his objectives he was crystal clear on his objectives and imam
[39:50]hussain Hadi Salaam knowing who he was knowing what he stood for
[39:58]when the offer came for him to pledge allegiance to you as
[40:03]edom in mahalia he was summoned to the home of the governor
[40:07]to the palace of the governor in medina and he was asked
[40:13]to pledge allegiance and he took with him the young men of
[40:16]banu hashim and he understood his position he knew the household that
[40:22]he was born in and where he came from and that's why
[40:25]when they made the offer to him he refused and his justification
[40:34]was that look at his heed look at the type of person
[40:37]that desi this Yazidis a murderer he is a drunkard he is
[40:45]a womanizer he has no sanctity and no respect for life he
[40:50]does not honor the basic human freedoms and he listed a number
[40:56]of his open faults open flaws and he says were Mythili lie
[41:04]you buy your Mithila a man like me does not pledge allegiance
[41:07]to a man like him because I know where I am from
[41:11]I know the family that I emerge from I know the principles
[41:14]I know what my priorities are in life and how can a
[41:19]person like him who dances with the monkeys expect someone like me
[41:23]to put hand in hand and to pledge allegiance to him and
[41:29]of course imam hussain ali salaam at that moment he realized that
[41:34]time was slipping away from him that it would only be a
[41:38]matter of time because of the prophecy that rasulullah sallallahu alehiwassallaam had
[41:42]given so many years earlier he knew that it was only a
[41:46]matter of time that he had to face that ultimate reality but
[41:50]he still had a mission he did not give up and that's
[41:52]why before departing from medina to Mecca he went to the grave
[42:01]of his mother Fatima he went to the grave of his grandfather
[42:04]rasulallah he wants to the grave of his brother and imam hassan
[42:10]and moosh tabali sallam and he spent some time there he knew
[42:13]that this was going to be his final time narrations tell us
[42:17]that as he was spending time there because of his exhaustion he
[42:22]was so exhausted that he fell asleep and in his sleep he
[42:29]saw a dream he saw acerola rasulallah said to him ya Hossein
[42:34]enter ah hello Elena Angela he said you are you are on
[42:43]your path to us in a very speedy way it is only
[42:45]a matter of time before you come to us before we meet
[42:50]to one another and it is in this state brothers and sisters
[42:53]that imam hussain ali salaam gathered his Caravan his loved ones his
[43:02]family members to embark on this journey of course not everybody could
[43:05]embark on this journey there were a number of family members who
[43:08]stood behind now traders mentioned one of his daughters fatima Sola who
[43:13]stood behind who was too sick um will been a mother who
[43:19]was like his own mother who was not his biological mother but
[43:22]was like his own mother who loved him like her own son
[43:25]also stayed behind his brother muhammad abu hanifa who he had written
[43:32]his wasiyyat to his directive these were the people that stayed behind
[43:36]as imam hussain ali said i'm prepared for that final journey never
[43:43]to return again to Medina nod allahu alayhi roger own or say
[43:46]Alamelu deen of allah more am uncle opinion cally boon voila our
[43:50]capital ilmu cioppino salli ala muhammad wa ala muhammad
