[26:21]Just one quick announcement.

[29:50]the loudness of our voices.
[30:00]for a purification of our hearts and hastening of the reappearance of
[30:07]our beloved the 12 im with the loudness of our voices [Music]
[30:18]once Again, lovers and the followers of we thank almighty Allah for
[30:30]gracing us with tonight the seventh night of the holy month of
[30:37]muharam.
[30:36]We pray sincerely that almighty Allah accept our humble efforts in this
[30:44]holy month of muharam and make us worthy of being the true
[30:53]lovers and the followers of shahada.
[30:56]The verse I've just quoted from the holy Quran is Quran 40
[31:04]verse 67 Allah and in this beautiful verse highlights on three important
[31:18]main stages of our lives.
[31:22]He begins saying interrupt.
[31:26]He is the one who created you from clay.
[31:32]Then from the cement, then from the cloth, then from here he
[31:45]begins mentioning the three main stages of our lives.
[31:51]Then he brings you out as child.
[32:00]Then you reach your strength meaning youth.
[32:08]Then you become elders.
[32:12]Now these three stages of our lives are of great importance.
[32:18]Each and every stage plays crucial role especially the first and the
[32:27]second one in shaping the type of elders we become.
[32:33]Now departing from this beautiful vers tonight is building youth with purpose
[32:46]and passion.
[32:46]Our stages of the examination will be of the following.
[32:53]Number one, we'll look at the definition of the youth stage and
[33:01]what are the characteristics of this stage.
[33:07]Very important.
[33:07]Second stage of our examination will look at youth in the holy
[33:15]Quran and the traditions of our beloved prophet and al third stage
[33:21]of our examination we'll look at youth crisis mistakes and misconceptions and
[33:32]then the last stage of our examination of tonight inshallah we'll look
[33:38]at some recommendations and solutions.
[33:41]Main aim of tonight's discourse inshallah is first and foremost for the
[33:50]youths to appreciate their stages of life and secondly is for the
[34:00]fathers, mothers, elders and most importantly our community leaders to appreciate their
[34:08]duties and responsibilities towards building youth with purpose and passion.
[34:17]At the end of the day, most of the companions of Sedu
[34:22]Shada in Karbala were youth and this religion that we hold so
[34:32]dear, Islamic religion grew by the effort of many youth if you
[34:37]read history.
[34:39]So therefore we cannot overemphasize on the importance of building our youth
[34:48]within the religion of Islam.
[34:51]The moment may God forbid a community neglect youth of course children
[35:00]and women that is then the beginning of the failure and the
[35:04]destruction of that community.
[35:06]Now kindly pay attention brothers and sisters especially our youth first stage
[35:14]of our examination.
[35:14]What is the definition of youth stage?
[35:20]You see there are so many definitions out there as to who
[35:31]is youth and what this stage constitutes.
[35:34]But I found two fascinating definitions I would like to share with
[35:42]you.
[35:41]Written by one Arab scholar Dr.
[35:47]in a magazine called he defined youth biologically and psychologically.
[36:00]Biologically is easy.
[36:02]There are so many variations.
[36:05]According to him, youth are from the age 13 to age 35
[36:13]or to age 40 if you like.
[36:17]But what interests me is the psychological definition of the youth stage.
[36:24]Kindly pay attention to this.
[36:27]Psychologically, youth is someone who is creative and productive.
[36:36]Youth is someone who has the power.
[36:47]You've got the power at this stage of your life to be
[36:53]creative and productive.
[36:57]If you are youth my dear brothers and sisters and you are
[37:02]not creative and you are not productive then rest assured there is
[37:09]something wrong with you and when I talk of creativity and productivity
[37:15]I'm talking of these two in all spheres and angles of our
[37:24]lives and so therefore I repeat youth psychologically is someone who is
[37:31]creative and productive.
[37:32]So I'm now talking to myself and to all the youth sitting
[37:38]here.
[37:36]You cannot afford but to be creative and to be productive.
[37:43]If for whatever reason you are unable to wake up for your
[37:50]faj salah be creative in this regard.
[37:52]If for whatever reason you becoming lazy at school, be creative about
[37:57]that.
[37:57]If for whatever reason you becoming lazy when it comes to raising
[38:01]your children and your youth, be creative about that.
[38:07]Bottom line, you cannot under any circumstance psychologically refer to yourself as
[38:15]youth if you are not creative and productive.
[38:18]Take note of that.
[38:22]This is crucial.
[38:24]It's easy for me to say I'm youth.
[38:25]Community is not taking care of me.
[38:29]But have you been creative?
[38:29]Have you been productive?
[38:31]Strive to be creative and productive.
[38:34]Then you can put hand on heart and complain to the world.
[38:39]Nobody is looking after you.
[38:40]Now when you examine youth stage, please pay attention to this.
[38:47]is crucial especially to parent and community leaders.
[38:51]You realize that there is one part of this stage which is
[38:57]extremely difficult and sensitive that is teenage years.
[39:05]Teenagers are youth but teenage years are not easy at all.
[39:14]Anyone who has a teenager in his house will understand this or
[39:21]anyone who interact with teenagers will understand because at the end of
[39:24]the day if you are a community leader you need to interact
[39:26]with teenagers although you may not have teenagers in your house.
[39:33]So teenage years I repeat are very difficult and are not easy.
[39:39]You know why?
[39:39]Because teenage years are years of intensity, years of insecurity and years
[39:53]of identity crisis.
[39:53]And for many teenage years are the years of confusion and rebellion.
[40:01]That is why scholars all this view that this is the time
[40:09]meaning in the teenage years when the youth seeks independence.
[40:14]This is the time when the youth questions authorities and this is
[40:24]the time when the youth start asking questions.
[40:27]Who am I?
[40:29]What do I want in life?
[40:32]What is my truth?
[40:35]Am I following this religion because of my father?
[40:38]Am I following this religion because of my mother?
[40:40]Am I going to mad because my father want me to go
[40:45]and I don't want to go?
[40:44]Am I praying because my father want me to do so?
[40:49]And mom and I don't want to do.
[40:51]So it's a very sensitive stage of life.
[40:54]Now let me add this for parents.
[40:59]Teenage years can be extremely difficult.
[41:05]You know why?
[41:08]Because the same child that once clung to your arms slams the
[41:13]door.
[41:15]Yes.
[41:17]Challenges your values.
[41:20]Why are you this way?
[41:26]Not that way.
[41:25]questions your authority in the house.
[41:29]You a mom this way.
[41:33]I'm not that way.
[41:36]I am studying.
[41:34]I know more than you.
[41:38]So it can be challenging for parent to begin with for m
[41:46]teachers and for community leaders and the moment we neglect this stage
[41:52]that is the beginning of our failure in future.
[41:56]So one difficult for parents two teenage years can be a great
[42:08]concern for communities.
[42:08]You know why?
[42:10]Because you will see them drifting apart from the mosque during the
[42:15]year.
[42:16]Alhamdulillah everybody comes pulls people.
[42:21]Imam Hussein is like a magnet.
[42:24]It brings people.
[42:25]But you come to the mosque, five people.
[42:28]You come Thursday, no one.
[42:32]Those you will see them will be elders and senior citizens.
[42:35]Where are the young ones?
[42:39]Do you blame them?
[42:39]Not necessarily.
[42:40]It may be two-way traffic as I will explain later on inshallah.
[42:45]But it can be an extreme concern for community leaders, either the
[42:50]president, either the secretary or those who run our communities.
[42:53]It can be extremely concerned because they may not be attending to
[43:00]the mosque.
[43:00]Not only that, they are addicted to their screens.
[43:08]They will sit somewhere they will be watching their screen and not
[43:14]only that for community when they come to the mosque they can
[43:18]confidently tell you this is not making sense I don't understand this
[43:26]and some we get worked up when they ask they are very
[43:30]confident they tell what are you talking about this doesn't make sense
[43:33]to me I give you example you know I love mamm a
[43:37]lot But sometimes a youth can come and ask why are you
[43:43]doing this?
[43:41]Don't get worked up.
[43:44]Chill answer.
[43:44]It's that you have the answer or you cannot tell him you
[43:49]are going to janam because you are not doing this.
[43:51]So it can be a great concern my dear brothers and sisters.
[43:57]Now let me humbly invite our youth look at some of the
[44:06]characteristics of this stage of your life.
[44:07]and take advantage of it before it is too late.
[44:13]Because once you pass this stage, youth stage, it can be extremely
[44:20]difficult to be able to make things up.
[44:23]The first characteristic and quality of youth stage I repeat again there
[44:28]are so many youth here alhamdulillah is that you can easily be
[44:35]creative and productive if you want from the definition.
[44:39]So then settle follow I mentioned last night if you struggling with
[44:48]your studies be it mathematics science be creative about it so that
[44:53]you become you become productive at the end of the day.
[44:56]Whatever you struggle with at this stage of your life humbly I
[45:02]tell you my dear brothers and sisters youth you should be able
[45:05]to overcome it before it is too late.
[45:08]Second quality of youth stage is what?
[45:15]Youth my dear brothers and sisters they are quick in taking decision
[45:23]youth who is dilly darling should I shouldn't should I shouldn't rest
[45:34]assure there is something wrong there excuse me it is only elders
[45:38]of course not all elders under normal circumstance if you want to
[45:41]take this alam to this place it take one month to discussing
[45:44]when do you take this alam to this place but for the
[45:54]youth it's jaldi let's get it done and go of course not
[45:57]every time get it done and go is also good but it's
[46:04]something positive with the elders let's do this you know we have
[46:08]a meeting one week meeting two weeks meeting do we change from
[46:16]English to meeting meeting youth no baba let's go man so if
[46:23]you are youth abib and then you are too much delaying delaying
[46:29]delaying then there's something wrong you need someone to help you with
[46:33]advice the third but not the least quality of this youth stage
[46:42]is Youth can easily change.
[46:49]Seriously, may God forbid if one is on drugs and you are
[46:57]truly determined to change.
[46:58]It may take time once it becomes an addiction, you should be
[47:03]able to change when you are youth.
[47:05]But once you become an elder, a it's a mammoth task to
[47:09]change.
[47:12]So at your age maybe your salat is not up to that
[47:20]level it's not standard wah it's not too late you can change
[47:23]be determined from tonight you should be able to change yes maybe
[47:30]you finished madrasa last year madrasa two years ago and you can't
[47:34]remember all the aam you've done for example go back you realize
[47:40]we In a short space of time, you are on top of
[47:45]your game.
[47:46]You know why?
[47:45]Because Allah has given you that.
[47:47]So if you have a youth in your house, they may give
[47:52]you sleepless nights.
[47:51]Sometimes it's not easy.
[47:56]Especially when they start going to university within that first year, they
[48:00]will come with some ideologies.
[48:01]You don't know where it is coming from.
[48:05]Relax.
[48:04]You have an opportunity to be able to change things if you
[48:11]can because Allah place in them the ability to change.
[48:15]Now this brings me to the second stage of my examination youth
[48:22]in the holy Quran and the traditions of our beloved prophet and
[48:33][Music] Let's look at Quran bearing in mind these characteristics we've just
[48:44]mentioned and let's all be inspired by these teachings of the holy
[48:54]Quran and the traditions of our beloved prophet.
[48:55]First example is the example of prophet Ibraim.
[49:05]Surah verse number 60 Quran 21.
[49:12]Ibraim as youth stood against politism.
[49:21]youth.
[49:22]Some historians mention Ibraim wasn't even 20 at this stage.
[49:31]Some said a little bit above 20.
[49:35]Alim Ibraimis was youth when he made all of them to go
[49:37]back to their senses.
[49:40]You are worshiping these small idols.
[49:42]I've been telling you this is not the right thing to do.
[49:47]They were not budging.
[49:47]of Ibraim the best thing he could do was to go and
[49:50]destroyed each one of them and he left the big one isn't
[49:54]it and he then placed the amination he had with the big
[49:58]one they came they were asking who did that he said of
[50:00]course ask the big one if he speaks you see they thought
[50:08]they were wise but Ibraimisam at a very young age let monotism
[50:14]manifested in his So I and you really we have everything on
[50:19]a silver platter strive religion will not just be easy and making
[50:27]sense to if we don't strive for it.
[50:29]We are blessed born into this religion but if we as youth
[50:38]we don't take it seriously and explore more we will not understand
[50:42]it much.
[50:43]It becomes boring.
[50:45]Second example in the holy Quran my dear brothers and sisters is
[50:51]prophet surah verse 27.
[50:59]You and I know very well what happened to people were not
[51:07]budging.
[51:08]They were not listening to his invitation to such an extent.
[51:13]If you read this ayah, the ayah makes it crystal clear.
[51:24]You know, you are nothing but human like us.
[51:32]Then look at the next line.
[51:37]And what we see of your followers are those who in their
[51:45]thoughts are way less than our thoughts.
[51:49]Here they are referring to the youth young ones who followed.
[51:55]Majority of the followers of prophetam were youth.
[52:01]They were very young.
[52:04]They were of your ages.
[52:05]Some were even younger than your ages.
[52:09]They were the few harmful who supported prophetam and Allah asawel celebrate
[52:18]them in the holy Quran.
[52:20]Third example in the holy Quran which is also fascinating is the
[52:31]example of those who believed and follow Musam.
[52:41]Allah says none believed in MS except I said his family family
[52:52]from his nation.
[52:52]Here when you examining referring to the young ones who followed Musam.
[53:00]So today our religion need you youth than any other person.
[53:06]You need to be in the forefront of salah.
[53:09]You need to be in the forefront of serving in the community
[53:15]because the religion of Allah was made to grow through the effort
[53:21]of the youth.
[53:22]You don't wait until you become old.
[53:28]You do not wait until you become a senior citizen.
[53:29]The religion and the school of thought of need you now or
[53:38]no more.
[53:38]Now come to the traditions of the prophet and let's be inspired
[53:44]again before we move forward.
[53:47]You heard of m ib some may say mas.
[53:53]You know this gentleman he was a Christian.
[53:57]He became a Muslim through the guidance of our beloved prophet.
[54:03]This is fascinating story.
[54:04]And you know what happened?
[54:08]He was the one sent by our beloved prophet to the holy
[54:11]city of Medina to propagate Islam.
[54:18]Read his history.
[54:21]It's all about the youth.
[54:24]He went there in his 20s, early 20s.
[54:27]Historians said he was about 24 years.
[54:30]He went there, he propagate Islam.
[54:35]So if you are not in the forefront, who do you want
[54:39]to be in the forefront?
[54:41]That's one example.
[54:44]Second example, Muslims towards the end of the life of the holy
[54:54]prophet had an encounter.
[54:56]Prophet said Osama you are going to lead Muslims.
[55:02]First Khalifa Abuakar, secondh you all follow the leadership of Osama to
[55:14]such an extent.
[55:16]The holy prophet said all of you go follow us.
[55:29]Why not become a leader regardless of your age?
[55:34]You can Osama led the Muslims among them the leaders and the
[55:41]senior citizens in the Muslim camp during the lifetime of the holy
[55:45]prophet and prophet said may the curse of Allah be on anyone
[55:48]who stand against the leadership of Osama young so don't fold your
[55:56]arms you are needed each one of you is important.
[56:02]We do not see you.
[56:06]We get worried.
[56:05]We do not see you.
[56:08]We think the future is dark as our youth.
[56:14]So don't be a Shi of Muharam.
[56:19]Don't be a Muslim of Shah Ramadan.
[56:23]Be a Muslim and a Shia throughout the year.
[56:28]I do appreciate you.
[56:31]I'll indicate to you later on.
[56:32]You're going through lots of challenges but I beg you without you
[56:38]we cannot go forward as youth as lovers and the followers of
[56:47]the second example.
[56:49]Now we all sitting here because of who?
[56:53]Imm Hussein right?
[56:56]The tradition says together the youth of paradise, Im Hassan, Im Hussein,
[57:21]Abdah Abbas, they were all youth alongside meaning come forward.
[57:31]Is it in the A you want to support?
[57:36]Is it in the you want to support?
[57:38]Is it in the madr you want to support?
[57:43]Build your salah.
[57:41]Build your knowhow about I'm not saying this for sake.
[57:47]Alhamdulillah we go around we see youth.
[57:50]Let this energy of muharam continuous if not all beyond the muharam
[57:57]and rest assured Allah will be proud with you and the imam
[58:00]of our time will be proud with you again our beloved Im
[58:09][Music] as you know the tradition very and say supported the holy
[58:29]prophets.
[58:28]When did join and supported the holy prophet?
[58:36]At the age of 13 habibi 1 three it's easy for me
[58:39]to give an excuse to say you know what that time is
[58:41]different.
[58:42]No no no no no no no no no no you can
[58:45]if you truly want to do.
[58:50]Yes, there are challenges.
[58:50]I agree 100%.
[58:50]But you can look at the tradition.
[59:08]We had a youth be mentioned and his name is Ibraim here
[59:15]also from Ali.
[59:21]There is no youth like Ali was youth.
[59:30]Why not I Why not you?
[59:40]Islam needs you.
[59:44]Now let me add this from the tradition of the prophet.
[59:48]This is beautiful.
[59:52]Prophet said talking to the elders and leaders and fathers and mothers.
[60:04]I urge you to be kind to the youth.
[60:10]I urge you reach out to the youth because they have soft
[60:24]hearts meaning their hearts are fertile ground.
[60:28]But then he said, look at the Arabic, beautiful Arabic.
[60:47]as a career of good news and a warner.
[60:51]Then the youth accepted me and the elders rejected me.
[60:59]But today, excuse me, you forgive me.
[61:05]If you look at my ratio, our elders are accepting and our
[61:08]youth are not.
[61:11]It may not, you may not be wrong.
[61:16]Maybe depend on the circumstance but the holy prophet is saying youth
[61:19]accepted me.
[61:21]Salman alis he was youth during the battle of aak when he
[61:25]suggested to the holy prophet what to be done.
[61:28]Salman was youth when he gained the title Salman was youth salman
[61:38]was youth mad he was youth when he would say al these
[61:51]were all youth around our beloved prophet now let's come to those
[62:00]who are not Masum or those who are not competit one or
[62:03]two examples.
[62:04]You all heard of Allah.
[62:06]You heard of him?
[62:09]Hhabibi became at a very young ages thunder age and is regarded
[62:23]one of the great Shia scholars by all standard.
[62:29]But if you look at the work of Allah and you read
[62:34]his biography, he was young.
[62:37]Don't wait until you retire or you are about to retire.
[62:42]That's the time you want to show you are serious in your
[62:44]religion.
[62:48]Take religion seriously.
[62:52]Come to Kbala.
[62:54]As I mentioned earlier on, majority of the companions of Imam Hussein
[63:02]were young.
[63:04]Good number of us here, we were older than them.
[63:09]Tonight is dedicated to Kasim, isn't it?
[63:11]How old was Kasim?
[63:14]All not more than 13 years in Kbala Shakim.
[63:19]We commemorated Muhammad and narration tells us 11:12 Psalms 13:14 they were
[63:29]young.
[63:30]This is to inspire our youth regardless of the challenges we are
[63:38]going through that there is still hope.
[63:41]My dear brothers and sisters, our dear youth, he came forward.
[63:48]He like in the case of the other young companions of Im
[63:55]Hussein introduced himself to the enemies in Hassan.
[64:03]If you do not recognize me, I am the descendant or the
[64:10]son of a Hassan, the grandson of the prophet, the chosen and
[64:14]the trusted one.
[64:18][Music] He used the word that indeed this chosen prophet is trusted
[64:27]one.
[64:27]Then he said he said this is Hussein like a captive held
[64:37]in chains.
[64:40]said amongst people whose hearts are harder than the rainless cloud.
[64:49]Kasim tonight is his night.
[64:55]Kasim was young.
[64:56]Not only that, Kasim led his other brothers, the sons of Imam
[65:05]Hassan in Kbala.
[65:08]He led them.
[65:06]He guided them.
[65:10]So Islam doesn't expect less from our youth.
[65:16]First you build yourself.
[65:21]And then secondly, come and serve the cause of Islam before it's
[65:24]too late.
[65:25]I tell you brothers and sisters, this is to all of us,
[65:28]but most especially the youth.
[65:29]Wallah, what's the point of life if you don't build your legacy
[65:35]in this world?
[65:40]You are now 20 or you are now 30.
[65:45]What have you achieved so far?
[65:50]What have you achieved?
[65:52]You need to build your legacy.
[65:55]Heroes of Kabala built their legacies and today we are all enjoying
[66:03]from their legacies.
[66:05]Now first stage of the examination interesting part youth crisis mistakes and
[66:17]misconceptions.
[66:19]Now every youth one way or the other goes through this crisis.
[66:29]The first mistake good number of our youth make is misunderstanding independence.
[66:42]You'll hear youth saying or a teenager, I know myself.
[66:48]I know what I want.
[66:52]I'm happy to decide my own truth.
[66:59]But Islam comes on and says it's true.
[67:04]You must grow into independence but not isolation.
[67:11]You need guidance my dear youth.
[67:15]See when you walk you don't see your back.
[67:20]The one who sees your back will be able to explain things
[67:24]to you that you do not see.
[67:27]We live in a world today where we often hear people glorifying
[67:37]freedom without guidance.
[67:39]Islam says freedom or independence without guidance is distraction as youth.
[67:50]Yes, rejoice your independence but rest assured you are never independent of
[68:03]guidance.
[68:01]The day you think you know it better than your father and
[68:08]mother who squeezed water out of stones to make you who you
[68:10]are today.
[68:12]That is the beginning of hitting potholes in your life.
[68:16]Not only your parents the day you think that elderly person who
[68:23]is sitting there you know it better than him or her and
[68:25]the elder cannot say anything to you that is the beginning of
[68:32]your failure.
[68:31]Freedom is crucial independence is important but that doesn't mean I do
[68:40]not need to be guided by someone.
[68:43]So first mistake good number of our youth make is that no
[68:50]I'm independent I'm free let me make my mistake the way you
[68:52]made your mistakes inshallah I will make it up life today is
[68:58]not like that it's not trial and luck that's first mistake second
[69:04]mistake or misconception is blindly believing in yourself today we often hear
[69:12]motivational speakers I'm not talking of all motivational speakers.
[69:15]But you will hear online either on Insta, Facebook, X, Snapchat, you
[69:23]name it.
[69:23]You know, believe in yourself.
[69:28]Follow your thoughts.
[69:29]You don't need anyone.
[69:32]You can use your charg be careful.
[69:39]True.
[69:40]Islam says believe in your capacity.
[69:43]I mentioned last night.
[69:45]But believing in yourself without relying and believing in God leads to
[69:56]disappointment, emptiness and arrogance.
[69:59]Yes, believe in yourself but you need God.
[70:06]Hence scholars will tell us beautifully the best way to do so
[70:13]is to believe in Allah through yourself.
[70:17]So don't get carried away when your friend whether a Muslim or
[70:24]non-Muslim comes forward and says believe in yourself.
[70:26]Believe in yourself.
[70:28]You can do it.
[70:30]You are enough.
[70:30]That's the word the sentence they use.
[70:32]You are enough.
[70:34]You don't need anyone.
[70:36]You may wallah end up regretting.
[70:40]And fathers who are here with us, mothers, grandfathers who have children
[70:45]in your house, as you raise them, build them in such a
[70:50]way that they carry these values with them.
[70:52]And I'll share some practical tips towards the end inshallah.
[70:56]The last but certainly not the least mistake and misconception we see
[71:03]is that good number of our youth this really saddens me.
[71:08]They only seek attention and not purpose.
[71:16]Some they measure their worth with the number of likes they get,
[71:24]the number of comments they get online and the number of views.
[71:28]I see in our own community youth crying overwhelmed with anxiety approaching
[71:36]them why they said why they are liking for my friend they
[71:41]don't like me online.
[71:42]Do you know how much of our youth are suffering with anxiety?
[71:46]How many of them are getting bullied online?
[71:51]When they are in their room and you are in your room,
[71:55]do you know how many hours they spend on their cell phones?
[71:59]Of course, you don't become bodyguard for them.
[72:02]But you need to build a house in such a way that
[72:06]they have a confidence in you.
[72:07]You have a confidence in them.
[72:11]Some of our youth are isolating themselves completely, drifting apart.
[72:18]They want to be alone.
[72:22]Don't seek anyone's attention and approval.
[72:27]You have your family, you have Allah, you have.
[72:36]Please my dear youth, the world want chunk of you and Islam
[72:49]also wants chunk of you.
[72:51]So there is a battle I understand our youth are going through.
[72:59]Now let's go to the last stage of the examination.
[73:04]our duties as elders, as communities especially, I'm focusing on community more
[73:14]tonight and of course parents on what is it that we should
[73:22]do to make sure we build youth with passion and purpose.
[73:25]Our youth are excellent.
[73:28]They just need someone to help them.
[73:34]But we often get tired easily and we give up quickly.
[73:39]One thing we need to appreciate elders and parents.
[73:45]We have two generations.
[73:50]Scholars mention we have Juisol.
[73:53]We have a Juawas.
[73:57]We have a communicating generation and we have connecting generation.
[74:07]Current generation the youth of today they are connecting generation.
[74:14]Our elders and some of those sitting here you are communicating.
[74:19]What do I mean?
[74:19]Today's youth they rather build relationship online sometime they've never met in
[74:26]their lives.
[74:27]You know how many hours our youth spend on their social media?
[74:31]You may try in the house to stop it.
[74:34]You know how many time they how many hours they spend.
[74:37]So appreciate that we've got two sets of generations.
[74:41]Even our centers, our mosque, our imam, we need to understand your
[74:46]generation is not their generation.
[74:48]What worked for you, don't expect everything of it to work for
[74:56]the youth.
[74:56]So some of the youth rightly so that's why they don't go
[75:00]to the mosque that's why they don't come to the programs I
[75:04]don't know of here I'm talking of my experience because they don't
[75:09]find programs relatable they find our programs boring they find our programs
[75:18]not stimulating so they are connecting generation.
[75:26]You, my father, my mother, my auntie, my uncle, my grandfather, you
[75:33]are communicating generation.
[75:34]You look at example, some of our fathers here and mothers came
[75:40]from say Uganda or Pakistan or Afghanistan or Tanzania for example.
[75:46]When your friend from Tanzania, the one you grew up with comes
[75:51]to visit you, it's as if the relationship is built now.
[75:56]You know, you feel good.
[76:00]It's as if the relationship was just built now.
[76:04]But with the youth, they will make 10 friends today and by
[76:11]the end of the day all those friends are gone.
[76:14]That is why some said it's hadith, some said it's not hadith.
[76:18]But alim it makes a lot of sense.
[76:21]Do not raise your children according to your time because they are
[76:28]born in a time completely different from your time.
[76:32]So appreciate that as an elderly person or as a leader or
[76:36]as a father or as a mother.
[76:38]Number two, appreciate one thing.
[76:41]Youth they are highly inquisitive.
[76:47]Sometimes you will think they are annoying because everything they want why
[76:55]even if that why is not in Islam they will ask you
[76:59]why and you know what the moment you say I don't know
[77:04]or you said you are too annoying wah you've given them boarding
[77:07]pass to look for alternate out there if you don't know tell
[77:13]them I will get back to you but they are accept inad
[77:21]they ask so many questions if they don't come to the mosque
[77:29]or Imam bar to ask the questions where do you want them
[77:31]to go and ask the question so now I'm going to give
[77:36]practical tips simple ones how do we reconcile between our generation and
[77:41]the generation of our youth and I believe by so doing we'll
[77:44]be building youth with purpose and passion number one my dear brothers
[77:51]and sisters dialogue with the youth dialogue going this monologue done you
[78:08]don't expect any question then don't speak dialogue talk have an open
[78:19]forum from time to time set a subject come dialogue hear them
[78:25]out this goes to all parents also if you don't dialogue with
[78:30]your children you don't discuss with them they will go and discuss
[78:33]on social media and they'll pick up whatever they want to pick
[78:35]up now when they come with certain ideologies you start saying who
[78:38]is chro of this chakra of that chakra of that this is
[78:41]jannam this is jana baba suji So first dialogue you know this
[78:52]is so important.
[78:55]Number two practical tip build emotional connection with youth.
[79:00]What do I mean by that?
[79:02]Don't be judgmental of youth when they come to the mosque.
[79:07]They are standing outside.
[79:09]Okay.
[79:08]Alhamdulillah they are here.
[79:12]They are not in the theater or cinema.
[79:15]When you begin by criticizing the person will run away from you
[79:21]have to leave them slowly but surely they here they standing outside
[79:25]they not coming for the program slowly but surely explain to them
[79:28]discuss with them hear them out so on the second level build
[79:31]what they call emotional connection with the youth with the children let
[79:37]them feel they have confident in you they will come That's number
[79:46]two.
[79:45]Number three, understand the challenges of our youth.
[79:54]If you are a parent or you are a leader and you
[79:59]don't appreciate the challenges of the youth, you cannot guide them.
[80:02]That is why we must be steps ahead of our youth.
[80:08]Well, they've got so many challenges.
[80:10]Religious identity crisis is there.
[80:13]Gender identity is a challenge.
[80:17]Alcohol can be a challenge.
[80:22]Drug can be a challenge.
[80:26]Peer group influence is a challenge.
[80:30]So, let's appreciate the challenge of the youth so that we are
[80:35]able to guide them properly.
[80:37]That's number three.
[80:39]Number four, be patient with them.
[80:43]Be patient.
[80:45]Don't worry.
[80:56]as a father, as a mother, you will give up and you
[81:02]lose it.
[81:02]Keep working.
[81:03]It may take you one year, but you working on it.
[81:07]It will happen inshallah.
[81:08]But be patient.
[81:11]Saburi saburi.
[81:15]The next one which I'm excited I heard it here.
[81:19]Our sister saja presented mentorship.
[81:22]Our youth require mentorship.
[81:27]It's a very serious thing.
[81:30]Without mentoring them, the world will mentor them for you.
[81:35]And last but certainly not the least, which alhamdulillah, also I think
[81:40]here, I saw it last night, one of the youth, one of
[81:42]the young boys gave a speech announcement.
[81:46]Give them a leadership roles.
[81:51]Huh?
[81:53]Give them leadership roles.
[81:55]Not always you want to enjoy ki and the children are not
[81:58]given the ki.
[82:00]Take only one.
[82:02]Our problem is that I want to see five and 10.
[82:07]La baby.
[82:09]Take one.
[82:07]Let that one shadow you.
[82:10]Keep building.
[82:10]Well, by the time you realize that one will bring you another
[82:13]one.
[82:14]But if you want five, they won't come.
[82:21]slowly but surely.
[82:23]So give them leadership roles, announcements, five minutes lecture before the major
[82:31]program.
[82:31]By so doing you are building their capacity.
[82:35]And last but certainly not the least.
[82:38]As communities across the globe of lovers and followers of we need
[82:43]to have varieties of activities, sports.
[82:46]It brings youth like no one's business.
[82:49]It's like magnet.
[82:53]with the youth if it's only like we remain we are not
[83:03]short of audience but my talk is about after throughout the year
[83:15]don't worry 19th of Ramadan you don't use it to judge community
[83:22]don't worry about that don't worry it's throughout the year that's how
[83:26]you can gauge your community whether the youth are there or not
[83:30]alhamdulillah since I give every night we have audience I always tell
[83:36]people really if you look at the life of Imam as he
[83:38]had no even five people to talk to he was on parole
[83:46]I imi he would even say to his companion when you see
[83:49]me don't this salam to me.
[83:51]Don't even point your fingers and hands to me because I cannot
[83:57]guarantee your safety.
[84:00]So please, brothers and sisters, young and old, we have roles to
[84:07]play.
[84:08]And you stop giving excuses.
[84:09]You've got beautiful centers across the globe.
[84:12]You've got everything.
[84:16]Don't give excuses.
[84:20]Especially those with young children.
[84:22]If you don't come to the mosque regularly, when they grow, they
[84:29]will not come.
[84:28]Now let's go to Kbala and take inspirations from Shakasim.
[84:39]It is a night dedicated to this great warrior of Islam, the
[84:47]representative of Imam Mushta on the 10th day of Muharam.
[84:52]Where do we begin with this mus?
[84:53]My dear dear dear dear dear dear dear dear dear dear brothers
[84:56]and sisters you know we are told in the narrations prophet cried
[85:04]until he became blind although he knew y was alive but it
[85:11]hurts him to know that his sons were fighting each other.
[85:16]How many times we gave our parents sleepless nights because of our
[85:21]behavior.
[85:23]Abu Hamzali one day sat next to Im Zin.
[85:29]He said to me, "Oh my mah, I've realized that you've not
[85:32]stopped crying.
[85:33]You still lamenting over Karbala.
[85:36]You still remembering your father." Imm looked at Abu Hamzali and he
[85:41]said, "Oh, Abu Hamza was missing Ysef." And on account of that,
[85:49]he cried and he became a blind man.
[85:52]But I saw how they butchered my family members.
[85:58]He said, "Oh Abu Ham, I saw how they butchered my beloved
[86:05]father in Kbala." I tell you my dear brothers and sisters on
[86:08]the 10th day of Muharam there was a great display of brotherhood.
[86:14]Is it the brotherhood between Imam Hussein and Abu Fat Abbas?
[86:22]As the poet mentioned Ysef had 12 brothers but Hussein Alisam had
[86:27]only one Abbas and that was enough.
[86:31]Look at the brotherhood between Muhammad and likewise the brotherhood between the
[86:38]sons of Im Hassan Mushta.
[86:42]I begin with Abdullah the son of Im Hassan.
[86:46]Isn't it?
[86:45]You realize that when they began to shower their arrows on Im
[86:52]Hussein, arrow came on the forehead of Hussein.
[86:56]Arrow came on the chest of Hussein.
[86:59]Arrow came on the shoulders of Hussein.
[87:02]Hussein fell on the ground.
[87:03]As they said, he was like a hedgehog on the ground.
[87:08]Now Abdullah from far called out, "I will not allow you to
[87:12]finish off my uncle until you kill me." Abdullah rushed to the
[87:16]body of Im Hussein.
[87:19]He laid his body next to Im Hussein.
[87:22]You know what they did to Abdullah?
[87:28]They shocked the right arm of Abdullah.
[87:28]But the moon of all the sons of Imta is Kim Kim
[87:37]was a great warrior and he displayed impeccable character on the 10th
[87:46]day of Muar.
[87:45]Narration tells us Kazim began to walk towards Abdah Hussein.
[87:52]As he was approaching Im Hussein, he heard Im Hussein calling.
[88:00]Is there any helper to help me?
[88:05]When Kazim got to he said uncle, I am here for permission.
[88:13]Imam Hussein said no.
[88:13]Kasim said, "Oh my uncle, I heard you call him for help.
[88:18]I am here to help you." You know what I say to
[88:20]Kasim?
[88:20]He said Kasim go back look after your mother.
[88:25]Kasim left as Kazim was returning to Ka.
[88:29]He overheard Imam Hussein again.
[88:33][Music] Kazim then returned to Im Hussein.
[88:40]He said uncle I heard you again call him for help.
[88:42]I am here to help you.
[88:46]That's when I immooked at Imm Hussein.
[88:56]He said, "Oh uncle, if I am a man to you, you
[89:00]are a seer to me." But you know what I Hussein said
[89:05]to Kasim, "Go stay behind, look after your mother." You know what
[89:10]Kasim did?
[89:12]Nar tells us Kasim came down.
[89:13]He held the feet of Imam Hussein.
[89:15]He began to kiss the feet of Imam Hussein.
[89:19]He said, "Uncle, I beg you, allow me to go and fight."
[89:22]My father, Imam Hassan told me, "Oh Kasim, you and your brothers,
[89:29]a moment will come when I will not be there.
[89:30]Your uncle will be alone.
[89:36]Allow my sons to fight and represent me." Imam said, "Look at
[89:39]Kasim." He said, "Kim, you breaking my heart.
[89:43]Go back.
[89:42]Now look at the next lie.
[89:46]Allah it breaks the heart of the lover of him.
[89:48]Kasim went back.
[89:51]His mother Ramla asked him why.
[89:56]Kasim said uncle said I'm too young to fight.
[89:57]Ramula then opened the box.
[90:01]She took out a letter.
