[7:43]mosque to help move some equipment while the madrasa program was going
[7:49]on i walked into the hall where i am standing before you
[7:51]and my heart sank immediately i looked around and saw three separate
[7:57]classes all congregated on the floor where i stand before you the
[8:01]children were completing their madrasah workbooks and one student showed their teacher
[8:05]their work his paper was riddled with holes where he had pressed
[8:12]too hard whilst writing it was at that exact moment i realized
[8:15]that our current facilities were no longer adequate our madressa has gone
[8:20]from 40 students when i was a little kid to over 270

[9:45]in providing us with a center we call allah's home let us
[9:49]remember those who are no longer here with a heartfelt surrey father
[9:54]thank you bismillahim [Music] [Music] [Music] how many of the companions of
[11:36]the prophet muhammad peace be upon him and his family were present
[11:42]at karbala how many were loyal to imam al-hussein in the same
[11:46]way that they displayed loyalty to the holy prophet peace be upon
[11:50]him and his family indeed this question allows us to examine the
[11:55]50 years after the death of the holy prophet peace be upon
[11:57]him in his family for we know that the prophet peace be
[12:00]upon him and his family died in the eleventh year after hijrah
[12:04]and imam al-hussein died in the 61st year after hijra the companions
[12:09]play a pivotal role in each and every school in the religion
[12:14]of islam every single school in the muslim world today every school
[12:18]of thought reveres the companions of the prophet peace be upon him
[12:23]and his family but the scope of that reference differs from one
[12:28]school to another as in you may have one school that gives
[12:31]a complete blanket reverence to every single person who saw or met
[12:36]or talked or walked with the holy prophet peace be upon him
[12:39]and his family they say that all of these there is an
[12:42]ultimate decency of all of them that their actions are not to
[12:48]be questioned and even if there are differences we leave those differences
[12:50]for they are part of a community that has now left us
[12:55]therefore on one extreme you have one group who will not open
[13:00]any discussion or even go to the legal system and say that
[13:03]anyone who discusses or questions the behavior or the actions of those
[13:09]who lived around the holy prophet peace be upon him his family
[13:11]could be subject to illegal trial and punishment as if these personalities
[13:17]around the holy prophet peace be upon him family reach a level
[13:21]of infallibility then there are others who are a bit more moderate
[13:26]who say that these are human beings like any other human beings
[13:28]who are open to faults and mistakes and that the quran makes
[13:34]it clear to us that there's a difference between for example the
[13:37]ones of them who were with the prophet from day one and
[13:40]those who joined for example in medina and then there's a difference
[13:45]between those who joined in medina and those who converted to the
[13:49]religion of islam after the opening of mecca the conquest of mecca
[13:53]was a couple of years before the holy prophet peace be upon
[13:59]him and his family passed away that conquest of mecca you had
[14:01]a number of people who on that day were known as divorce
[14:06]is the idea of you being released from for example something that
[14:13]you're held in therefore refers to those who were released on the
[14:18]day of the opening of mecca let free even though they had
[14:22]a history of crimes against the religion of islam you know when
[14:26]you give amnesty to everybody on one day those who have butchered
[14:31]your uncle's body those who have harassed you those who've tortured you
[14:34]all of them are released on one day those personalities when they're
[14:38]released and are known as talaqa in certain schools of theology were
[14:43]never meant to be caliphs why because you can't determine if this
[14:47]person's converted because they actually believe in the religion or because they're
[14:52]scared of what could happen to them after all the crimes they've
[14:56]committed how many times have you seen people who convert to the
[14:59]religions just for marriage for example he converts because he wants to
[15:03]marry a muslim girl in the community of course as soon as
[15:11]he says automatically he can get married to anyone in the community
[15:16]his honor his blood his property is all sacred whether there's actual
[15:21]belief in there or not is a different question therefore those who
[15:25]were released on the day of the opening of mecca are those
[15:29]who in reality received amnesty from a prison sentence imagine you go
[15:33]to a prison now and you say to the head of the
[15:37]prison that please release everybody it doesn't matter this person is a
[15:40]convict who has committed this crime or that crime released them all
[15:44]the holy prophet peace be upon his family therefore around him the
[15:49]quran makes it clear there are those who in every situation their
[15:53]example is divine like the verse i quoted at the beginning muhammad
[16:01]is the messenger of allah those who are with him are firm
[16:11]against the disbelievers but they are merciful amongst each other you'll see
[16:21]them watch in roku in sujood prostrating bowing receiving the bounties of
[16:31]allah you could see the marks of prostration that are on their
[16:36]foreheads from that prostration that they do that's one group of companions
[16:41]a middle group of companions one may argue are those who for
[16:44]example had moments of loyalty and moments of disloyalty for example on
[16:48]the day of the quran says muhammad is but a messenger of
[16:58]allah messengers have come before him if he dies or rather he
[17:03]is killed you turn on your heels and run away as in
[17:08]you're his companions you're meant to be loyal to him if you
[17:10]hear that he's alive or dead you can't run away from a
[17:13]battlefield that's a middle group then you had the third group a
[17:17]dangerous group what is it the hypocrites when a whole chapter of
[17:21]the holy quran is called someone who publicly is the most religious
[17:26]person you'll ever see his beard is always well kept the always
[17:32]with him walking around everywhere dressed always religiously but you find that
[17:38]the same person deep down has no belief and the quran would
[17:40]say to the holy prophet peace be upon his family the hypocrites
[17:49]come to you and they say you are the messenger of allah
[17:52]of course the hypocrite is a liar he doesn't believe it therefore
[17:56]those who are around the holy prophet peace be upon him in
[18:00]his family those who are around were made up of those who
[18:02]were the best of the best of those whose faith had peaks
[18:06]and traumas of those who were convicts who were released on the
[18:10]day of mecca and of those who were hypocrites and further than
[18:15]all of this when the prophet peace be upon him and his
[18:16]family died in the 11th year after hijra did all for example
[18:21]his companions die the same day as him i ask you when
[18:25]the prophet passed away did every companion die that day no there
[18:29]are companions who lived for example for a couple of years after
[18:34]the prophet peace be upon him his family there are some who
[18:37]live to see kerbela like who who was alive at the time
[18:42]of karbala even was around at the time of karbala there are
[18:59]those who continue to live even after karbala there are those who
[19:04]lived 90 years after rasulullah died therefore when i examined the presence
[19:10]of the companions of rasulullah this is a fundamental question why because
[19:18]for us your decency isn't about how you lived with the prophet
[19:22]it's about how you lived and maintained your principles to the day
[19:26]you went to your grave imagine the time someone with the prophet
[19:29]peace be upon his family and i'm the most loyal person but
[19:32]then after the prophet peace be upon him and his family dies
[19:35]i see oppression i remain silent after the prophet peace be upon
[19:38]his family dies i am willing to raise armies against his own
[19:43]family what position does that put me in because that's a position
[19:47]many muslims have not resolved is a person who lived around or
[19:52]a person who lived around the prophet peace be upon his family
[19:54]is the criteria that he saw the prophet peace be upon his
[19:59]family or he remained loyal to the principles of the prophet and
[20:02]his family therefore in tonight's examination we ask this question that if
[20:06]you met the grandfather of hussein alaihis salaam were you there loyal
[20:12]to hussein alaihissalam on the plains of kerbela or did you turn
[20:17]a blind eye to karbala were there companions who had met rasulullah
[20:24]and reminded others do you not remember that day when hussain was
[20:29]in his lap do you not remember that day have you forgotten
[20:32]that day when he talked about hussain did they live to see
[20:37]karbala let's tonight examine the presence or not of the companions of
[20:41]rasulallah and i'd like to do this in the following stages number
[20:47]one does it make a difference to the truthfulness of imam al-hussein
[20:52]whether the companions are with him or not with him number two
[20:57]if the companions do end up fighting each other then how do
[21:01]we know what the barometer of truth is in the religion of
[21:06]islam number three the companions who didn't come to karbala what were
[21:09]their reasons for not coming and how did imam al-hussein tell one
[21:12]famous one of them that leave me alone i do think that
[21:19]i will be embarrassed in front of my lord for not enjoining
[21:22]the good and forbidding the evil number four those companions who did
[21:29]turn up such as anas al-qaeda and how did they show on
[21:43]the planes of karbala we'll never forget what your grandfather said we'll
[21:46]remain loyal to the family of ali for they're the family of
[21:50]the merciful and we stay away from the family of harb for
[21:54]they're the family of shaytan let's examine this and dissect the topic
[21:59]in complete depth does it make a difference if a companion of
[22:03]the prophet peace be upon him his family was with imam al-hussein
[22:06]or not in the sense that is imam al-hussein's message and at
[22:12]standard relying on the presence of a companion on his side as
[22:17]in is it an honor for imam al-hussein to have a companion
[22:21]with him or is it an honor for the companion to have
[22:25]imam al-hussein alongside him when we look at this the answer is
[22:29]that it really doesn't make too much of a difference whether a
[22:31]companion of rasulallah was alongside imam al-hussein or not on the plains
[22:41]of karbala for what reason because the companions of rasulallah can never
[22:46]be a litmus test of the truth when a battle occurs for
[22:50]which reason had the companions in their history all been on the
[22:56]same side of an army when a battle took place then i'd
[22:59]know the truth straight away the problem is that after rasulallah died
[23:06]i saw companions of his who were in battles if they were
[23:12]in those battles all on one side say there was 400 on
[23:17]one side and there were zero on the other then i would
[23:20]say that the litmus test of who's right on the day of
[23:22]jamel is of course those with the companions with him but then
[23:27]when i look at the battle of gemma i realize the companions
[23:31]can never be the litmus test of truth because on the day
[23:36]of jamal the companions were raising swords against one another what do
[23:40]i mean in the army of imam do you know how many
[23:45]of the muhajiroun and ansar were in the army of islam on
[23:48]the day of jamal 25 years after rasulullah died four hundred companions
[23:55]of his were on the side of imam ali salam of those
[23:59]400 companions you had some grades as in personalities through schools of
[24:04]islam revere as in for me enough is that imam al-hasan and
[24:09]imam al-hussein are there i don't really need to see anyone else
[24:12]but say you had for example those who revere ibn abbas those
[24:17]who revere for example others such as those were all on the
[24:24]side of imam but who was on the other side more companions
[24:29]more in which sense not more than 400 but there were others
[24:33]who were on the side of who of the wife of the
[24:38]prophet you had for example talhah was on that side you had
[24:40]zubair was on that side if i was standing on the day
[24:45]of jamal and you know sadly many non-shia are not allowed to
[24:50]discuss the battle of jamal because the moment you begin to discuss
[24:53]the battle of jamal what happens is that dominoes begin to fall
[24:58]these people who you've told me are all one another respect for
[25:04]look after each other how could they come and raise swords against
[25:07]each other and when you raise swords against each other there must
[25:10]be some cursing taking place and the prophet says whoever curses one
[25:14]of my sahaba is someone who's a disbeliever are you telling me
[25:19]when i raise swords against one another there isn't cursing taking place
[25:23]on both sides if i'm willing to kill you i'm not willing
[25:26]to curse you so you found on that day of jamal on
[25:30]one side there were companions on the other they were companions on
[25:35]one side i saw those who people say allah and whom next
[25:39]to their name and on the other i saw those who people
[25:45]say rather allah and whom next to their name are not minor
[25:49]companions of rasulallah these are renowned companions these are people who were
[25:54]there from the earliest days of islam likewise on the other side
[26:00]even abbas these are not small companions these are revered therefore on
[26:04]that day who is the litmus test of truth because when a
[26:08]person says to me that look towards where the sahaba are i
[26:12]get confused because if a person shows me hadith my companions are
[26:18]like stars some stars no doubt can guide the arab on a
[26:22]journey but there's other stars that don't guide me in any way
[26:24]as it when i look up at the stars i may look
[26:27]for a certain star which will direct me but there's many millions
[26:32]of other stars which are present which don't necessarily direct me therefore
[26:36]on that day of jamal one who says that the presence of
[26:39]rasulullah sallallahu alaihi's companions on the side of an army gives me
[26:45]the truth not at all on that day i see companions who
[26:50]come to war with one another let me give you another example
[26:53]on the day of safine you had on one side companions let's
[26:58]name them imam ali alayhi salaam on one side you had for
[27:04]example ammar binyasar on the side of imam ali at suffering do
[27:07]we all agree with this on the side of imam al-safin on
[27:11]the other side let's name the companions you had others who were
[27:23]present there as well imam ali on his side had over 20
[27:24]companions who fought on the battle of badr they were on the
[27:29]side of imam ali i ask you these companions do they not
[27:33]know what the truth is as in 25 of them from the
[27:36]bachelor better say we are loyal to emir on that day is
[27:41]with imam if companions being present at a battle gives me guidance
[27:48]and is a litmus test for me then on that day i'll
[27:53]be confused because i'll see that on one side there are companions
[27:56]of rasulallah even if they are even if they are released from
[28:02]the opening and on that side i see these you found even
[28:12]the muslims themselves got baffled by this equation how didn't a person
[28:18]stand in the middle battle and he looked towards imam allah he
[28:21]said i see on one side these people talha zober and so
[28:26]on i see on the other these people yourself ibn abbas amar
[28:32]all of you are companions of the man who bought this religion
[28:36]how do i verify who's right and wrong what did imam say
[28:41]don't look at the personalities and then look at the truth first
[28:46]look at the truth and then judge the personalities what did that
[28:52]mean was making it clear companions of the prophet peace be upon
[28:55]him as family can never be litmus test of truth because those
[28:58]battles when i saw them on both sides did not guide me
[29:01]the only litmus test of truth was with the truth and the
[29:09]truth is when the prophet said these lines famous lines loving ali
[29:14]is faith hatred of ali is hypocrisy when the prophet said i
[29:19]am the city of knowledge and ali is its gate when the
[29:22]holy prophet peace be upon him says only allah and when the
[29:28]holy prophet comes line after line giving me direction he's telling me
[29:33]i leave behind for you two weighty things hold on to them
[29:35]is it the quran and my companions no therefore if i'm stuck
[29:50]for guidance after the prophet died anyone can claim to be a
[29:54]guide after the prophet but the problem was when i have a
[29:58]fallible person please just work with me on this rationally when i
[30:00]have someone who claims to be my leader who's fallible why should
[30:04]i obey you if you're fallible and i'm fallible why should i
[30:07]obey you for what reason you're a normal human i'm a normal
[30:10]human being you're making mistakes i make mistakes the rationality behind having
[30:15]someone infallible continuing the message and guidance after the prophet as the
[30:21]first imam was warned was that he is infallible i'm not so
[30:24]i give my whole obedience to him otherwise you bring me someone
[30:28]who's fallible after the prophets died why should i go and follow
[30:32]this person who are you you for example may be good in
[30:34]certain aspects of islamic law i'm good in certain aspects of islamic
[30:37]theology you may be good in islamic political theory i may be
[30:41]good in islamic for example ethics you're fallible i'm fallible you could
[30:45]be affected by shaitaan i could be affected by shaytan but the
[30:49]man chosen on the day of ghadir had a william which was
[30:54]wichita the william that his lord showered him with a grace where
[30:59]he is able to be protecting not only himself but protecting others
[31:04]from that world of misguidance therefore when it comes to imam al-hussein
[31:09]imam al-hussein was honored by companions of rasulallah not at all it's
[31:17]them who are honored to know it's you who are honored to
[31:21]stand next to hussain ben ali it's you who are honored to
[31:27]be even associated with the master of the youth of paradise as
[31:30]in when you're coming and telling me that someone who joined imam
[31:34]al-hussein oh imam ali o imam al-hassan look who's on his side
[31:38]you want to follow and be happy and proud that he is
[31:41]on his side he is proud that he is on the side
[31:44]of imam allah because you know what happened at suffering had a
[31:49]problem because some of his companions when they killed ammar some of
[31:53]them were like oh no we've made a terrible mistake what mistake
[31:56]have you made they said that we've killed ammar and the prophet
[32:00]peace be upon him and his family said whoever kills ammar the
[32:03]rebellious group of infidels they're the ones who will kill ammar now
[32:07]that we have killed ammar we are the rebellious group so muawiyah
[32:13]said no by saying what by saying that means rasulallah killed hamza
[32:30]because he brought him with him to war at that moment do
[32:33]you know what was hurting ammar you have changed your minds because
[32:39]i'm with ali so the reason you found haqq was because i'm
[32:44]with ali all those traditions rasulullah said about ali you have deleted
[32:51]and now that you've seen me die you're like oh yeah we've
[32:54]made a mistake ammar is dead that means ali is right a
[32:56]companion can never honor an imam an imam from the progeny of
[33:03]the prophet peace be upon his family is a guidance who was
[33:06]given to us and chosen by the lord taught and his companions
[33:18]lived after him and many were around when carabella was happening let's
[33:22]see the ones who turned up and the ones who had no
[33:28]interest in turning up in terms of the ones who had no
[33:33]interest or did not come to karabella to be there alongside imam
[33:36]al-hussein but sometimes the end of your life you all pray that
[34:01]you allah keep me firm the way you kept me firm at
[34:03]the beginning of my life isn't that what we all pray for
[34:05]that i don't want to just be religious and firm at the
[34:09]beginning i want to die on the william of imam and on
[34:13]the path of rasulullah ibn abbas was alive he spoke to imam
[34:18]and hussain before imam hussain went to karbala i'm amazed today when
[34:22]there are muslims who compare even abbas to imam al-hussein even abbas
[34:29]tried it he didn't do too well because even abbas told imam
[34:34]hussain don't go these people when you're gonna go they're gonna be
[34:37]after you they're gonna attack you i fear for you imam al-hussein
[34:41]says to him leave me i don't want you to talk like
[34:45]this leave me do you think that i will stand in front
[34:49]of my lord when i meet him saying that this ummah did
[34:55]not enjoin the good and forbid the evil you're telling me that
[34:59]i shouldn't go firstly who are you to tell me i shouldn't
[35:02]go in reality you ibn abbas are fallible like all other fallibles
[35:07]all your knowledge that you gained is either through my father or
[35:11]through or through israelite traditions for example you have your tafsir of
[35:18]the holy quran but the reality is i am going out to
[35:22]enjoin the good forbid the evil you want to join you join
[35:25]you obey the imam of your time you don't want to join
[35:28]it's up to you as well never forced anyone to join him
[35:35]to karbala to highlight there is no compulsion i am not forcing
[35:40]you to be alongside me but if you know my position and
[35:45]you know my status i'm not just the young boy who's a
[35:48]grandkid of a prophet i am someone who inherits the prophetic message
[35:53]of spirituality of mysticism of ethics of theology of law and the
[35:59]most learned of the people here you want to come and join
[36:01]me you can join me did ibn abbas join him no ibn
[36:05]abbas remained behind he left the chance to be alongside the helpers
[36:08]of imam al-hussein islam someone might tell me that maybe even abbas
[36:12]did not know about imam al-hussein and karbala i'll prove that's wrong
[36:15]in just a second therefore the first companion of rasulallah who was
[36:19]alive at the time of karbala did not help imam was saying
[36:22]second of them was alive at the time of karabella but did
[36:27]not come to the aid of imam hussein we hear his name
[36:33]many times and hadith you always hear his name and so on
[36:36]in one narration they say that jabber abdullah was an old frail
[36:41]man maybe he needed guidance to even get to certain places but
[36:44]he still had a conversation with imam al-hussein and he said to
[36:47]him hussain why don't you do what your brother hassan did with
[36:52]muawiyah why don't you do a treaty with him and imam al-hussein
[36:54]makes it clear to him you obey the imam of your time
[36:58]you don't question my decisions i am the imam of your time
[37:03]you obey me you don't offer your suggestions on these areas but
[37:07]jabber would come later on after karbala and he would come for
[37:12]the burial of imam al-hussein so at least he had a stand
[37:15]that when you hear say this has died you don't just chill
[37:19]at home and say sad news you know the grandson of the
[37:22]prophet peace be upon him family has died jabba said take me
[37:26]to karabella without the al-awfi they went to karbala he came towards
[37:32]the grave of imam al-hussein and we all know the lines when
[37:36]he screamed out hussain hussain hussein is this the way the beloved
[37:40]does not reply back to his lover there was a sense in
[37:45]jabber that he realized that how did i even think of questioning
[37:48]the motives of say this or giving him advice because you know
[37:53]people say imam al-hasan signed the treaty with muawiyah imam al-hussein honored
[37:58]that treaty imam al-hussein became imam 10 years before karbala many people
[38:02]think imam al-hussein hussain honored the terms of the treaty his brother
[38:15]had made with muawiyah until the last time of the treaty when
[38:17]muawiyah appointed yazid only then imam hussain said a man like me
[38:21]doesn't pledge allegiance to a man like him we've made the treaty
[38:25]with him every part of the treaty is broken so jabber when
[38:29]abdullah was around he did not come to the aid of imam
[38:33]who was also around there are two companions over us who were
[38:39]around but didn't come to karabella but when they heard the news
[38:44]of what happened they narrate for us in a heartbroken way one
[38:49]of them the narrator of the famous hadith i leave behind for
[38:53]you two weighty things hold on to them and you will never
[39:00]go straight the quran and maya debate who all of you tonight
[39:06]if people ask you you know you guys believe that the prophet
[39:09]said something at a place called hom you know we have ayden
[39:14]just go on to google muslim type k h u double m
[39:19]and see the famous hadith the prophet stopped at home like an
[39:25]oasis watering valley and he said i leave behind for you the
[39:29]quran and my albeit as in is there any more proof that
[39:33]a barometer is needed for truth so this said where did where
[39:38]was he he was in kufa did not come to karbala what
[39:41]did zayd narrate zade narrated that i saw ibn ziyad poking the
[39:46]eyes and the lips of the head of imam al-hussein imagine you
[39:50]can read this by the way in the saha as well ibn
[39:53]ziyad had the head of imam al-hussein next to him and this
[39:56]is where islam went sadly as and i always say that the
[40:01]day of khadir the moment we left the man chosen on the
[40:04]day of hadir anyone could become a leader and the problem is
[40:09]a very nasty person could become a leader and his comrades can
[40:11]come into power and they won't have a limit zayd bin arkham
[40:14]said i saw them poke the eyes and the lips of imam
[40:18]this and he said to ibn ziyad ibn ziyad that's the same
[40:22]person who i saw my prophet kiss him shower him with kisses
[40:28]like any grandfather would do andy bin ziyad said if it wasn't
[40:32]for the fact that you're of old age i would have finished
[40:34]you off right now that zayd bin arkam helped us even with
[40:37]massage because people sometimes ask how do you know what took place
[40:42]in karbala and kufan well we have companions who are alive who
[40:45]saw the head of imam and hussain being taken from kerbela towards
[40:52]kufa toward sham why do i stress on this there were 95
[41:00]year olds at karbala they were 93 year olds at karbala they
[41:04]were 89 year olds at karbala i'm telling you sometimes our grandparents
[41:08]are stronger than us on certain things we think that we're stronger
[41:13]than our elders some of them can teach us the meaning of
[41:18]strength perseverance physically and mentally i don't care if you're 85 you're
[41:25]87 why did you not come to karbala why you know the
[41:28]grandson of rasulallah is in a position where he's standing up against
[41:32]the family of abu sufyan at least try and stand and at
[41:36]least come and say something therefore zayd bin arkham did not come
[41:39]another companion of rasulallah who was alive at the time who did
[41:47]he meet he was in sham seeing sham having a carnival sham
[41:52]had a carnival this religion the religion of islam that i follow
[41:58]i ask you my dear brothers and sisters 50 years after rasool
[42:04]allah you have a whole carnival to celebrate the killing of his
[42:10]grandchildren that's not an insult that doesn't make you reflect where islam
[42:15]went sad he goes i looked around i'm thinking why is everyone
[42:19]partying in sham he came to someone who said to excuse me
[42:21]why is everyone having a party is there a day of eid
[42:23]he said to him you must be an arab nomad don't you
[42:28]know what's happened he said he said don't be surprised if the
[42:39]heavens cry and the earth swallows its inhabitants that's the head of
[42:45]hussein bin ali on the spear he said hussain min ali the
[42:52]grandson the master of the youth of paradise said yes he said
[42:55]who's that one with the chains on him he said that's ali
[42:58]ibn hussain companion of your great grandfather he said to him go
[43:08]and get us a piece of cloth why cloth say hello and
[43:13]he bought some cloth he brought it back imam zainal abdeen placed
[43:18]the cloth between the chain and the neck he said since carabella
[43:22]this chain has been cutting through my neck and say as i
[43:27]looked around i saw zayn when i saw others being chained and
[43:30]taken from one place to another this was what was a companion
[43:37]of rasulallah he was on his way to baton rouge not even
[43:40]karbala therefore you had companions of rasulallah who did not join imam
[43:45]al-hussein at all nor did they necessarily make a great stand they
[43:51]were doing their own thing with their own ways that's one group
[43:54]you had others who were companions of imam rasulullah who did not
[44:00]come to karbala because they were killed before karbala for example abdullah
[44:05]bin yaktar he was a companion of rasulallah you know people have
[44:14]this impression that the whole of kufa let imam al-hussein down what
[44:17]ninety percent of the army of imam was saying is golfing so
[44:21]how could you say cool for a little bit they say no
[44:23]but a little bait even told the people yes told those who
[44:27]did not stand up there were many who stood up who were
[44:32]executed this myth that people bring up that you shia are the
[44:34]killers of imam and is because you're guilty of what you've done
[44:41]companions i've just mentioned to you knew do you know what he
[44:52]ends up doing giving pledge of allegiance to yazid abdullah bin umar
[44:57]companion of rasulallah gives the pledge of allegiance to yazid because he
[45:04]lived until seventy three after hijrah um abdullah bin umar pledges allegiance
[45:10]now today you ask non-shia do you like yazid they say we
[45:14]don't like yazid nor do we praise yazidi as it was wrong
[45:16]this abdullah bin yes later on when he's asked the question he
[45:27]says you people you killed hussein but where did you help then
[45:31]they said kufa killed imam al-hussein i replied by saying so where
[45:35]was mecca in medina imam al-hussein started from cool for his journey
[45:39]medina silent mecca silent don't blame kofa medina and mecca should share
[45:46]much of the blame for they saw the grandson of rasulullah with
[45:51]people wanting to kill him and they're remaining silent looking after themselves
[45:57]therefore you had some companions like abdullah who and kufa they asked
[46:01]him curse ali he said never they executed him there and then
[46:05]he's a companion of the prophet peace be upon his family could
[46:07]not make it to karbala then who did you have you had
[46:12]the companions of rasulullah who met him saw him had hadith from
[46:20]him and made it to karbala allah who were these companions the
[46:23]ones who had met al-muhammad how honored are these personalities that they
[46:29]met rasulullah and they met imam ali and they met imam al-hassan
[46:36]and they not only met said when he was younger but they
[46:41]stood alongside imam al-hussein for example who number one ns he and
[46:54]his father were companions of rasulullah and has been harith and his
[47:01]father his father was one of us suffered the poor of the
[47:04]community they used to be around the mosque of rasulallah they were
[47:08]like people would come and they'd look after them and help them
[47:13]was alongside his father when he saw one day rasool allah with
[47:22]imam al-hussein as a young man in his lap and he said
[47:28]this hussain of mine will be killed in the land of iraq
[47:32]if you hear about this go and support him don't leave him
[47:40]alone go and support him there is no way that you people
[47:41]would leave this son of mine look how much i love him
[47:46]but also this is a person who is your guide and as
[47:49]therefore had seen imam al-hussein when he was young he had seen
[47:58]rasulullah say he will be killed in a land called iraq you
[48:00]know muslims had not really entered iraq at that time kufa was
[48:07]entered and made the garrison town six years after rasulallah died so
[48:11]therefore when he mentions arab that people know of but they don't
[48:15]really know that there is an empire and a caliphate and so
[48:17]on that only emerges later he said this hussain in my lap
[48:21]will be killed in iraq when you hear go and support him
[48:26]go and help him there were many others who heard this by
[48:29]the way but ns showed there's a difference between hearing and implementing
[48:36]a true husseini doesn't just hear wise words they implement them in
[48:42]their lives enes fought with rasulullah alongside him where better and that
[48:46]and this same ns by the time of karbala do you know
[48:50]what they used to say about him he was so old that
[48:53]his eyebrows had come down up virtually just over his eyes that
[48:58]he had to tie them up so that he could see and
[49:04]he was the one who came to imam al-hussein at his old
[49:08]age i'm talking if he's a companion of rasulallah let's say minimum
[49:13]let's say minimum 75 for example 80 years of age he knew
[49:18]that the prophet had guided him on this area he came to
[49:22]imam hussain it was difficult and i've always said this i don't
[49:25]know if we would have made it to karbala it's all well
[49:28]and good a thousand years later all of us saying we would
[49:32]have been there kufa it was a difficult time ibn ziyad had
[49:35]surrounded the city this 75 80 year old was thinking shall i
[49:39]shouldn't i he spoke with abaydullah and harald jaffe and others until
[49:43]he reached karbala stood next to imam al-hussein and you know imam
[49:49]al-hussein's so high you are the companions of my grandfather rasulullah always
[49:54]imam al-hussein if you notice with his companions he'd always thank them
[49:59]for their years of service this is a lesson for us sometimes
[50:02]we have people in our community we don't thank them we may
[50:05]sit and say they're good people but you don't see us thank
[50:10]them be grateful would always tell john you have served us so
[50:22]much he would say enes you've served us already so much you
[50:25]don't have to go out and when imam hussain would look at
[50:28]him saying how old was he at 57 years of age so
[50:31]when he'd see ns to him as elder and that's what turned
[50:36]around saying how do i answer your grandfather rasool allah except by
[50:43]supporting you but imam give me one honor he said what is
[50:49]it he said let me go and speak to um he said
[50:50]let me go and speak to him and he went towards him
[50:56]to speak to him ahmad bin sad said the salaam alaikum he
[51:02]said to him why are you not replying to my salam you
[51:05]don't think i'm a believer i said no i don't know you're
[51:06]not a muslim he said a person like you fights the grandson
[51:12]of rasulullah how could you how could you accept this you know
[51:19]what rasulullah said about him ahmad which i turned around said yeah
[51:24]i know it's true it will result in me going to hell
[51:25]but what can i do even ziad's made the decision don't let
[51:28]peer pressure stop you guys from coming towards the path sometimes your
[51:33]peers tell you don't be religious you're too young enjoy life don't
[51:36]let them do that to you you've got your cupboard they have
[51:40]their kabur you have your choice they have their choice he said
[51:42]to him then that's enough and he walked away and when he
[51:48]walked away he came to imam al-saying he said look how he
[51:57]says i'm honored to be alongside imam hussain and he comes out
[52:02]and he addresses every tribe that's in the army of um one
[52:09]by one and then he says to them i approach those who
[52:12]fight me like a roaring lion who would say that in their
[52:16]eighties who would say that unless the adrenaline is an adrenaline pumping
[52:21]with william he said that i will fight all of you like
[52:25]a roaring lion and defend the family of ali for they are
[52:30]on the path of the compassion and fight the family of harp
[52:34]for they on the path of shaytan simple he fought valiantly until
[52:39]his soul rested and returned back to his lord you had number
[52:45]two abdullah 24 years after khadir asked people in the area he
[53:05]said to them that which ones of you saw when rasool allah
[53:11]said which one of you are you prepared to put your hand
[53:17]up and admit of them there were 12 13.
[53:19]of them was who abdullah bin abdullah i was one of those
[53:23]i saw the holy prophet peace be upon his family announce you
[53:26]on didn't smile much and he was on the side of him
[54:00]and he said to him this is not a day to smile
[54:06]and abdullah ansari looked at him he said the reason i smile
[54:14]is what life has been a struggle and it's complete with hussein
[54:19]binhali and now what awaits us are the heavens and the that
[54:22]are awaiting us that's why i smile otherwise there's no other reason
[54:27]for me to smile he went out on the battlefield that day
[54:30]ford valiantly gave his life away imam al-hussein came like he did
[54:37]with anas carried his body back as well carried as well others
[54:49]for example who harth who was of the servants of hamza when
[54:53]abdul muttalib imam al-hussein came he carried his body as well who
[54:58]else jabber cousin of abu dhabi was with imam al-hussein imam hussain
[55:05]he came to abdullah i'm alongside you like i was alongside your
[55:11]grandfather went out fought again he came back imam hussain when he
[55:14]died carried his body back as well so you had companion after
[55:19]companion not just imam al-hussein these were with rasulullah either as horse
[55:24]riders either a swordsman they had sat with rasulullah and truly the
[55:30]quran in surah 33 verse 23 when the quran says that from
[55:34]the believers there are men who held on to the covenants they
[55:38]made with allah some of them have gone some are waiting for
[55:41]their turn and they never have changed one bit they were the
[55:46]same with rasulallah they didn't let down the prophet after he died
[55:50]they didn't hurt his family they remained loyal and unlike a combination
[55:55]of who muslim you want to see a combination of loyalty of
[56:03]two companions over us all who are now where who are now
[56:10]coming towards karabella and it wasn't easy to get to karbala i
[56:12]tell you on a dark night in kufa when ibn ziyad has
[56:17]surrounded the whole city can you make it out you can if
[56:20]you want to there are some who said it's too dangerous there
[56:23]are some who said i cannot attend there are some who made
[56:26]excuses we can be the same by the way today you will
[56:30]find it could be the same in our communities there may be
[56:33]a program at the mosque at some time i can't go it's
[56:36]not the right time i'm busy this they muslim being outside knew
[56:41]that if we let down hussain we've let down rasulullah because what
[56:48]he said hussain is from me and i am from hussain allah
[56:52]loves the one who loves hussain they are there muslim binauta had
[57:02]tried his hardest to protect muslims but eben ziad with his spies
[57:08]had overcome the companions of muslim he killed muslim he one much
[57:21]older the other similar ages they had grown up with each other
[57:26]they loved each other and you found that muslim binau sahaja both
[57:29]of these memorizers of the quran scholars these aren't just companies these
[57:34]are scholars of elm and they were there and you found muslim
[57:38]in house surgery that night left kova made it to karbala he
[57:43]embraced imam al-hussein alaihissalam and this muslim binaural has certain stands on
[57:49]the 10th of muharram which are the most unbelievable stands you'll ever
[57:56]come across muslim men outside comes towards who this was a valiant
[57:59]warrior by the way muslim and householder he had fought in azerbaijan
[58:03]he was a ferocious warrior but he was a man of great
[58:08]principle this man muslim in our sejah night of the tenth of
[58:13]muharram he hears zayn of allah speak to imam al-hussein are you
[58:19]sure all of them are loyal and he's the one who came
[58:22]out and he said that you want to ask us about our
[58:27]loyalty it's an honor for us to be alongside imam and jose
[58:32]and if we are going forward and we're killed and we die
[58:37]and we're cut into pieces if that can happen to us a
[58:41]thousand times again it would be an honor for this man he
[58:45]gave zainab that piece of heart that she needed and then he
[58:51]came towards imam al-hussein imam had put a fire trench outside to
[58:55]not get attacked on the night of the 10th muharram saying and
[59:03]he said to him hussain are you preparing yourself for the fire
[59:07]of hell already muslim men stood up he said no way no
[59:13]way he said let me kill him give me the chance to
[59:20]kill him imam said we don't start wars we are a family
[59:24]of principles we don't start wars he said i beg you let
[59:29]me kill him how dare he speak like that to you so
[59:31]he was there muslim with our sahaja muslim imam al-hussein and habib
[59:37]and mother her best friends habib was trying to get to karabakh
[59:45]problem was the gates all closed to reach to leave kofa his
[59:51]wife was sitting with him they were having a meal and she
[59:54]said to him what are you waiting for when are you leaving
[60:01]you're not going to leave the son of fatima alone when are
[60:05]you leaving he said i'm going to go now and he had
[60:11]his son gossip gossip was habib's son he looked towards him he
[60:15]said farewell to him said farewell to my wife just before he
[60:20]left said do me one favor tell him that we love him
[60:23]and that we wish we could have given more to him he
[60:29]left he reached karbala and when he reached karbala when imam al-hussein
[60:36]saw him imam al-hussein was so pleased to see him because he
[60:45]knew it's different when habib was there and one muslim is there
[60:50]and he knew he had lost muslims in our searcher he had
[60:55]lost muslim men ah and the moment they embraced each other at
[61:01]that moment a message came zainab wants to say salaam to habib
[61:04]what level must you be on for zayn of allah to be
[61:11]so pleased to see you he came he said his salams to
[61:18]say this and he looked across and he realized that this is
[61:21]going to be a difficult now but we will hang in there
[61:26]and we the companions of your grandfather and your father will never
[61:29]let you down we're going to be there we're going to stand
[61:33]alongside you and that's why every year what do we cry out
[61:53]some of those i mentioned 50 odd of them died straight away
[61:58]how because you know when they shoot arrows from the other side
[62:00]you all die isn't it the other army knows they're clever they
[62:04]have thousands they don't have many they shot arrows 50 died how
[62:10]many left 20 odd and one by one they came muslim then
[62:16]our sahaja you came to imam al-hussein he said imam let me
[62:19]go out and fight you're looking at this man companion but friend
[62:23]of yours as well lawyer lover of a hell albeit and cousin
[62:27]of habib mother muslim and our sahaja yogi habib is sadie you
[62:34]look at them they knew at that moment that this is going
[62:38]to be extremely difficult for each other muslim men outsider came out
[62:43]he called out in front of everybody one by one that were
[62:50]loyal to his family and his father and will fight all of
[62:52]you ferociously he fought all of them ferociously one by one a
[62:58]valiance and a bravery like the bravery of amir al-mu'min alaihi at
[63:04]every moment that he'd strike one of them he'd turn around and
[63:10]look towards him he continued to fight valiantly until um realized he
[63:18]realized that look this person one on one you can't fight him
[63:21]he's trained with ali so what must you do surround him from
[63:26]every goal my dear brothers and sisters every time i read the
[63:35]mocktail of muslim vidao serger it hurts me every time because i
[63:41]imagined what is he what's the scene there's a scene that i
[63:50]imagine every year and every time i read his massage he had
[63:55]so many injuries on his body he didn't just die he had
[64:02]these injuries all over his body i believe that there's a reason
[64:06]that he didn't die straight away i believe there's a reason that
[64:14]he didn't die straight away what line there are some great lines
[64:19]on the 10th of muharram [Music] but there's one line in particular
[64:27]that highlights the greatness of the companions of imam jose which line
[64:35]when he was lying on the ground with was on the other
[64:54]side imam recited the eye of the quran that i mentioned to
[64:58]you that there are amongst the believers that they held onto the
[65:05]covenant they made with allah at that moment habib came towards the
[65:11]face of muslim and he looked towards the eyes that were injured
[65:21]he said to him o muslim if i hadn't known that i
[65:31]would also die and join you shortly i would fulfill your will
[65:36]for you muslim said that moment when he heard habib say to
