[4:26]and in these blessed nights of the holy month of shaman in
[4:34]sha allah insha allah we will continue on in our discussion lecture
[4:40]2.
[4:39]i would like to begin with a verse from the holy quran
[4:44]in surat al imran verse number 31 is telling us in this
[5:12]verse if you should love allah then follow me so allah will
[5:18]love you and forgive you for your sins this verse in the
[5:24]holy book was revealed about a group of people who were known
[5:30]as the christians of nazareth who used to say that we are
[5:36]the lovers of the lord they made the following claim so allah
[5:43]defines the followers of the apostle of allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala as the
[5:49]clear example of his love and he addresses his holy messenger and
[5:56]his holy prophet muhammad with the following o muhammad tell your people
[6:07]tell your nation tell the ummah the following say if you love
[6:15]allah then follow me then follow rasulullah if you are true in
[6:21]what you claim that you love allah subhanahu wa ta'ala then follow
[6:25]the apostle the assigned messenger of allah subhanahu wa this act of
[6:33]following the apostle of allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala which is the holy prophet
[6:37]is the same as obeying allah it is in this case that
[6:43]allah loves you and allah forgives you of your sins allah is
[6:53]the one who loves you and when you follow his apostle when
[7:00]you follow the holy prophet sallallahu alaihi well this is when you
[7:06]really and truly have the same feeling of love towards allah and
[7:11]this is when you take this feeling of love to another level
[7:15]insha allah in tonight's discussion brothers and sisters i would like to
[7:20]use this opportunity to speak about a topic which which isn't often
[7:27]given its due rights and that is because people undermine its importance
[7:33]in having an impact on how our relationship with allah subhanahu wa
[7:38]should be that which is the genuine love of god we will
[7:50]speak about this topic in a number of points the first in
[7:57]defining love the second love in its different levels the third is
[8:02]about love and its effect on one's personality when it comes to
[8:06]spiritual growth and lastly the highest levels of love of god why
[8:14]does allah use the word love in the verse we recited in
[8:18]the beginning and if we were to look at this verse and
[8:24]analyze it we will see that the word love or hob is
[8:27]used twice every word every letter allah subhanahu wa tahalah chooses to
[8:38]be in the holy book is for a specific reason is out
[8:43]of wisdom is out of philosophy this choice of words the structure
[8:50]of the sentence the way the context is presented is in a
[8:56]specific manner for a specific reason allah is the hakim we believe
[9:00]that he is the wise and out of his wisdom the quran
[9:05]is written in this way for a specific reason because he is
[9:11]the wise and this is one of the miracles of the quran
[9:12]is the structure of the quran is the literature of the quran
[9:16]is the eloquence of how the quran is presented and the context
[9:21]of how the quran is written now if we want to give
[9:30]a brief analyzation and reflection we can derive that love means something
[9:39]in the religion of islam there is a significance for the concept
[9:44]of love in our religion without going further in the tafsir of
[9:51]the verse and analyzing it words afterward from you know just reading
[9:54]any person who understands briefly the arabic language you can see that
[10:00]allah speaks about love twice in this verse and in different verses
[10:04]that means that this concept of love is important in the religion
[10:08]of islam in some way so let's start by defining what is
[10:12]love and what is the different levels of love what is love
[10:21]if someone were to ask you define love to me how will
[10:26]you answer many of us i'm sure will not be able to
[10:30]explain it and that by the way is completely normal because if
[10:36]you remember last week we said that love is one of those
[10:40]things which our knowledge is self present in it's it doesn't need
[10:47]no link no proof in order for me to have this image
[10:52]this understanding of the concept of love what love is how to
[10:56]love it's something in my innate nature allah created me in a
[11:02]system and part of the system uh i have feelings and emotions
[11:06]and desires and one of them is the feeling of uh love
[11:11]so it's in my innate nature i have this feeling and this
[11:13]emotion towards something that's why it might be hard to explain to
[11:19]someone as to why i love this individual or why do i
[11:23]love this thing whatever it may be it is because it is
[11:27]something present in the heart it is everyone feels it differently and
[11:32]looks at it differently and understands it differently it doesn't need no
[11:35]proof and evidence it's part of the faculties he gives us tools
[11:50]and resources in order to reach him in order to grow in
[11:53]order to accomplish our goals in order to reach the highest levels
[12:00]of spirituality if we were to summarize to fulfill our human potential
[12:06]and all of these four faculties they have different uh roles if
[12:11]used correctly in terms of application if used correctly then a person
[12:17]is able to elevate themselves to the highest levels of spirituality to
[12:23]the highest levels of a spiritual connection between him or her and
[12:28]the master of the universe and we have this in uh some
[12:33]of the traditions and some of the way we have from the
[12:38]bayt which state that if a person is able to take over
[12:43]this nephes of theirs and perform this jihad the nephes we briefly
[12:48]spoke about last week in the proper manner and is able to
[12:54]let the be the leading force within them then they are able
[12:57]to elevate themselves to a level which is higher than the malaika
[13:02]and in a narration specifically the malac the angel which is close
[13:08]so allah created us in this realm of existence gave us these
[13:14]tools these powers and resources in order to reach him and again
[13:17]this is out of the wisdom this is out of the love
[13:20]he has for us servants of his in order to reach him
[13:24]you know he didn't just uh bring us into this realm without
[13:29]giving us a pathway without giving us uh tools signs in order
[13:40]to fulfill the objective of uh the creation of us human beings
[13:44]and we have a role to play in this in this dunya
[13:48]there's a reason why allah brought us into this realm of existence
[13:50]he wants us to reach perfection and allah tells you about allah
[13:56]this is through these different ways different representations you are able to
[14:03]reach me and the most important of these ways we spoke about
[14:05]it briefly last week as well when we spoke about tanafis and
[14:09]this nephes of ours this soul this heart has four different faculties
[14:16]the first faculty is the faculty or the power of intellect the
[14:21]second faculty which is the power of desire the third the faculty
[14:28]of anger or the power of anger and the fourth is the
[14:31]power of imagination or they refer to it as the satanic power
[14:35]now obviously if we were to explain each and every one of
[14:37]these faculties in detail we need uh you know tens of different
[14:43]lectures to you know speak about them and to fully understand what
[14:48]they mean but i'd like to focus on the second one when
[14:50]we said the power of desire or the faculty of desire love
[14:54]is part of that faculty of desire of emotion so if we
[15:00]were to give a brief definition in the end as i said
[15:04]it's something that cannot really be defined but if you were to
[15:08]give a definition it means to deeply be connected and committed to
[15:16]someone or something it's that feeling inside that attraction that care you
[15:21]have towards someone i love this person for example that means my
[15:25]heart is attracted towards some so if there is any type of
[15:29]attraction any type of emotion towards a certain thing regardless if it's
[15:34]an object if it's something materialistic if it's a person a human
[15:41]being then this is what we call love and the one our
[15:47]love is directed towards is referred to as we have al hobd
[15:52]is the feeling is the emotion and the mahboob is the one
[15:57]whom your love is directed towards love has or can be divided
[16:08]into three different types number one we have the divine love number
[16:13]two is the humane love number three is the love of the
[16:20]desires and when you look at the holy quran and we reflect
[16:23]when we reflect in the words of allah subhana wa we are
[16:28]able to see that the quran speaks about the three different types
[16:33]of love in various verses the first type of love is the
[16:40]divine love from its name we're able to understand what it means
[16:44]the love directed towards the divine who is the divine it's allah
[16:50]the creator of the universe the master of the day of judgment
[16:53]that love an individual has towards the creator towards god towards allah
[17:01]the attraction one feels towards the creator towards the ultimate truth towards
[17:08]the absolute power towards the absolute perfection towards the real owner of
[17:14]the universe as we defined last week because he is the creator
[17:30]and this level or this category of love is mentioned in the
[17:35]quran for instance in one of the verses and yet among the
[17:45]people are those who take other than allah as equal to him
[17:50]they love them as they should love allah so we see they
[17:54]love them as they should love allah that means that the love
[17:59]of allah is different than the love these people have towards certain
[18:04]individuals who are below allah in another verse will bring forth in
[18:24]place of them people he will love them and who will love
[18:28]him who are humble towards the believers so this is the first
[18:33]type of love mentioned in the holy quran and we recited some
[18:35]of the verses which speak about it the second type is the
[18:39]humane love what do we mean what do we mean by that
[18:43]it is the love the feeling the emotion one has towards his
[18:48]brother or the sister towards her sister your brothers and sisters in
[18:57]faith the love the emotion one has towards his wife the emotion
[19:00]uh the woman has towards her husband the the emotion you have
[19:05]towards your child towards your parents towards your siblings this emotion this
[19:14]feeling which is without any benefit without nothing in return it's a
[19:17]genuine feeling of love when you love your uh wife or when
[19:22]the wife loves her husband it's not because of a certain reason
[19:27]or purpose she wants something from him and for that reason she
[19:30]loves him or he loves her no it should be a a
[19:34]genuine feeling of love a genuine feeling of attraction which is felt
[19:41]through the through the heart which uh can is able to connect
[19:45]these uh two individuals together and the quran mentions this type of
[19:51]love and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one
[20:11]another lita the sword of when i meet you this is because
[20:14]i have tendency i have this feeling this emotion to want to
[20:18]meet you to socialize to grow with other human beings to connect
[20:24]with other human beings the more i know about them the more
[20:27]i connect the more different civilizations get to know one another the
[20:30]more they learn from one another the more they are closer with
[20:32]one another the more they feel connected with one another and the
[20:38]more uh they have certain feelings and emotions to want to towards
[20:42]one another which obviously can be applied in a uh acceptable in
[20:45]a halal manner which is through marriage for example so this is
[20:49]a second type of love the third type is the loved one
[20:57]has of desire that love because of your shahwah because of uh
[21:03]the uh desire of yours the love which revolves around satisfying your
[21:08]desires within the worldly pleasures and the quran speaks about this as
[21:16]well bismuth is the love of that which they desire of woman
[21:26]and children of heaped up sums of gold and silver fine branded
[21:33]horses and cattle and tiled land and so on and so forth
[21:35]allah says this is the enjoyment of worldly love this type of
[21:40]love is the love toward the materialistic towards the this temporary life
[21:47]we live in which is fannia as the quran mentioned and as
[21:54]the in the end of the day whether we want to you
[21:55]know say it or not we are all going to leave this
[21:59]world and what is going to remain with us is our what
[22:04]we have done how we were able to take care of this
[22:11]nephes of ours because the soul is the only thing that will
[22:16]remain so these are the three different levels of love and the
[22:20]highest of them and the true level of them is the level
[22:23]of the divine when we search behind the essence of these three
[22:29]different types of law we ask what is the philosophy as to
[22:36]why allah divided them into three different categories and in order to
[22:45]understand that we obviously need to go back to the holy quran
[22:47]and reflect uh regarding some of the verses when we look at
[22:54]a number of verses and we put them together we realize that
[23:01]the holy quran talks about the existence of men we are all
[23:07]from the existence of allah's breathing into clay to form life as
[23:12]the verse is mentioned for instance when i proportioned him referring to
[23:26]men and breathed into him of my created soul and another verse
[23:34]and when he proportioned him and breathed into him from his created
[23:41]soul in another verse we therefore breathe into him a spirit from
[23:50]our self so if we were to um uh analyze uh these
[23:56]verses and to see what these verses are implying that the human
[24:03]being is a breath from the spirit of god what does that
[24:07]mean we need to reflect here brothers and sisters i want you
[24:11]to focus in order to understand this might be a bit too
[24:14]philosophical but insha allah i'll try to explain it to the best
[24:18]of my ability when allah created the human being and brought him
[24:24]into this realm of existence when allah bestowed upon man of his
[24:31]own existence he created the human being as a shadow of him
[24:36]in other words the creation of man of the insane of the
[24:42]human being is to speak about god is nothing but a manifestation
[24:48]of god's own existence so the human being is a picture created
[24:52]to articulate whom the creator which is allah when allah says in
[24:59]the verses we just recite that means that i made this human
[25:07]being i structured this human being in a way in a picture
[25:13]that articulates me i made him a manifestation of myself of my
[25:16]traits of my swift of my characteristics it is a manifestation of
[25:25]god's own uh existence so the human being is given life from
[25:28]the spirit of allah for that very reason that is the reality
[25:34]and that is the truth behind the existence of men that means
[25:40]we as human beings we are dependent on allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[25:45]we are in need of existence we as in philosophy they use
[25:52]this terminology that uh we are we are poor how do we
[26:03]become rich we need existence this existence is given to us from
[26:08]the rich from el renee when al-ghani gives us this existence which
[26:13]is the the breath of the spirit of his in to us
[26:18]that is when we are brought into this realm of existence and
[26:23]when he desi decides to take it away then that is when
[26:26]we leave this realm of existence and that's why when we and
[26:29]this is when we uh transfer to the next life and will
[26:45]either choose to put us in the paradise or in the hell
[26:51]fire so for that very reason brothers and sisters the human being
[26:54]is created and in his or her in his or her instinct
[27:02]they love allah and they want to reach perfection why is that
[27:12]if you if you think of it if you realize you you
[27:17]can see that whenever we want to do anything in life whenever
[27:22]we want to study something whenever we want to buy something we
[27:27]always want the perfect version of it that we are capable of
[27:32]performing capable of buying capable of doing yeah and we study we
[27:38]want to become the best at what we do at the profession
[27:41]at the occupation i want to become the best doctor the best
[27:46]athlete the best lawyer whatever profession i choose to take and why
[27:52]is it that we always seek perfection that i want to be
[27:55]perfect i want this i'm capable to do this why is it
[27:58]there's a reason behind that and if we uh think uh about
[28:06]the reason we see that after i explained all of this to
[28:09]you and that we are from the uh the breath of the
[28:14]spirit of allah in us then we see that our source of
[28:23]creation is the absolute perfect is perfection if we are created from
[28:28]the source which is complete absolute perfection then we as a human
[28:36]beings tend to go back and refer back and to travel to
[28:40]that source of perfection which is allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for that
[28:45]reason we want to be perfect in every aspect in our life
[28:49]and this is the purpose behind the creation of us human beings
[28:53]allah wants us to reach perfection and because we are from the
[28:58]source of perfection in our nature we tend to become perfect in
[29:06]any act in any uh single movement we do the love of
[29:12]the human being towards allah because we tend to become perfect or
[29:22]to reach perfection become the best version of ourselves become perfect in
[29:29]the eyes of allah subhanahu wa tahara then we are able to
[29:35]see that this feeling that we have of love towards allah subhanahu
[29:40]wa ta'ala which is an innate feeling we spoke about it last
[29:45]week is the true level of love allah says the people are
[29:58]those who take others then allah as equals to him we recited
[30:03]this verse they love them as they love these group of individuals
[30:09]they take certain uh people and they think they imagine through this
[30:19]the as we said uh the the faculty of imagination they think
[30:25]in the back of their heads that this is the true love
[30:29]the true love lies with these uh group of people or with
[30:34]this house or car or whatever it may be while if we
[30:39]look at the uh the verse and uh the verse after it
[30:46]we see that allah says those groups or more than the love
[31:12]that group of people has towards certain individuals because they understand that
[31:17]true love lies with the divine and only with the divine and
[31:24]this is something which is if you think of it this is
[31:27]something which makes perfect sense it doesn't mean that i can't have
[31:34]love towards an individual towards my uh uh wife or towards uh
[31:40]my husband towards my siblings towards my parents no absolutely not we
[31:44]are required to love one another to take care of one another
[31:48]to treat one another with love and respect however it is important
[31:53]for us to understand that all this love is not the genuine
[32:00]level of love because the genuine level of love is the love
[32:03]towards the divine the love i have towards another human being or
[32:08]the love to chase my desires my feelings my emotions need it
[32:14]be intimacy ego this form of love is like a mirage and
[32:19]you all know what a mirage is when you're in the desert
[32:23]and you're thirsty you're searching for water from distance you see in
[32:27]front of you a pond or a river or a lake you
[32:33]can drink uh water but the closer you reach the closer you
[32:38]become you understand that what i saw is not the reality it's
[32:45]nothing but an illusion and our love towards anything other than allah
[32:52]is an illusion in this sense if it doesn't revolve around god
[32:57]it is not true love see even the uh relationship we have
[33:02]with our uh wives with our children should be to see closeness
[33:11]to allah in that individual through that individual that's why the main
[33:16]part of marriage is to complete one another to complete one another
[33:20]in what sense to complete your religion is to reach allah so
[33:24]that love that relationship of yours the way you treat one another
[33:28]the way you grow within one another is to become better as
[33:35]individuals together to reach that is when you complete your religion through
[33:44]marriage and this is how you love allah this is how your
[33:50]love with that individual with that wife or husband is genuine because
[33:54]it revolves around allah and by the way some of the and
[33:57]some of these scholars they mentioned this that when you want to
[34:02]even tell someone you love them that the correct way to do
[34:06]so is not to say i love you or a book it
[34:09]is to tell them i love you for allah for the sake
[34:15]of allah my love to you is a means or a way
[34:19]that i'm able to to become better to grow with you to
[34:22]learn from you and so on and so forth so this love
[34:27]revolves around god this is the genuine type of love with that
[34:33]being said it's clear and it's evident from the texts and from
[34:36]the quran and from the traditions of the salam that the highest
[34:42]levels of of being a servant to allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala is through
[34:49]the love of god and you see that itself is a high
[34:59]level for one to fully understand that he or she are nothing
[35:03]but a servant to allah that they have responsibilities towards allah allah
[35:12]has rights we need to perform certain obligations because we are servants
[35:19]of allah that's why some of the uh some of the acts
[35:26]of worship we perform we see that it's not always given to
[35:30]us the real reason or the wisdom the hell behind the hukum
[35:34]as to why we pray five times a day why is madhuba
[35:39]three recalls and we do not know we believe in this we
[35:42]pray in this way because because in the end we are abbied
[35:48]we are slaves we are servants of allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala and as
[35:54]servants we need to thank the creator the one who brought us
[36:00]into this realm of existence and the way to thank him and
[36:03]to respect him and to show uh our appreciation is through these
[36:08]acts of worship which have to be uh out of love to
[36:13]reach the highest levels of spirituality and as the commander of the
[36:20]faithful amir minin he says in one of the most beautiful of
[36:23]hadith he says that the best of people after the prophets and
[36:29]the imams in this entire world and in the hereafter are the
[36:36]ones who love allah subhanahu wa and the ones and those who
[36:41]what connects them together is the love of allah they are connected
[36:45]to one another through the love of allah subhanahu wa as the
[36:54]so the stronger this attraction becomes the stronger the desire becomes the
[36:59]deeper this feeling uh within becomes the harder it becomes to break
[37:04]that love the harder it becomes to break up with your beloved
[37:09]but what does it mean to really love allah to genuinely be
[37:18]in love with allah like we understand that the truth the highest
[37:24]levels of love and the genuine love is the love of god
[37:26]like how do i genuinely love allah subhana wa how uh what
[37:32]does it mean to genuinely love allah azzawajal and no better answer
[37:37]can be given to that other than the satisfaction of god this
[37:43]satisfaction or what they call an arabic rival can either be the
[37:50]meaning of the love of allah azzawajal or an apparent symbol for
[37:55]the love of allah in other words the genuine love of allah
[38:02]subhanahu wa is when i know and i am certain i might
[38:04]not be a hundred percent sure but i have some level of
[38:09]certainty some level of ultimate that i have performed everything in my
[38:17]hands within my uh limits uh with my capabilities in order to
[38:23]make allah satisfied in me in my actions and in my representation
[38:29]of him and of his religion that's when i know my love
[38:37]is genuine but another important question arises here is how can i
[38:45]of allah and we're speaking here when we speak about the love
[38:51]of allah in this sense you know we're speaking at a higher
[38:55]level we're speaking uh at a in-depth understanding as uh to how
[39:01]to have true maharifa of allah through the hub of allah and
[39:09]in order for us to fully understand how we can love allah
[39:18]it's important to explain that this divine love has three levels as
[39:23]well like there's three levels of love and this divine level or
[39:29]this divine uh category which is the highest level which is the
[39:32]divine love towards allah azzawajal there's three levels to it as well
[39:37]when we reach one of these levels then we know we're on
[39:43]the correct path in building that true relationship that true love between
[39:48]us and allah subhanahu wa and the higher of these levels we
[39:54]reach when we reach the third level if we're able to reach
[39:56]it then that is the highest levels and that is when we
[40:01]know that we have reached perfection the first of these levels is
[40:10]what our scholars and uh they refer to as the level of
[40:19]insurance says in a number of verses in the quran and did
[40:28]we not expand for you your hearts in another verse is expands
[40:40]his heart to accept islam he is given the light he has
[40:45]given the nur from the lord this person who feels his heart
[40:52]is expanding with allah azza expanding in love for allah when a
[40:59]person is called for worship with an open heart that individual does
[41:03]it happily gladly if god tells him to pray to pray we're
[41:09]not talking about here to pray a muslim to pray enough a
[41:14]recommended prayer that individual will do it without questioning if allah that
[41:23]individual will do it gladly without you know too much without forcing
[41:31]themselves to perform it we're talking here brothers and sisters about a
[41:36]higher level so we're not speaking about the uh obligatory acts of
[41:40]worship yeah when you want to reach this true love between the
[41:44]servant and allah and it's behind you've already are doing so you're
[41:51]supposedly doing your obligatory ashrams a lot and so yeah no you're
[41:55]trying to elevate your spirituality your connection with allah a higher of
[42:02]levels and when you are able to perform these musta in this
[42:05]sense or you know you don't mind performing them in that way
[42:10]because you know allah subhanahu wa allah will be happy if i
[42:14]do so and so without him asking you or ordering you because
[42:17]in the end these must-have aren't an order they're recommended if you
[42:20]do them allah loves it and allah will give you the for
[42:23]doing so if one really wants to understand and to test themselves
[42:28]and to see how allah and truly love god then see or
[42:38]look at the way they perform these do i do them because
[42:45]i love allah azzawajal or am i doing them because i am
[42:49]forced do i approach the salat of mine because i just want
[42:55]to get it done and over with i want to just get
[42:59]this burden or this feeling off my chest i can get back
[43:03]to work and you know continue normally in my life or is
[43:07]it because i need this a lot i want my heart to
[43:11]be connected with allah i need to speak to allah because salat
[43:15]is that form of connection it's the only perhaps the only form
[43:23]of worship or connection that one does on a daily basis to
[43:28]link themselves to link their hearts with allah so when i do
[43:33]so do i do it with love or not is my heart
[43:42]expanded has insulin in order to do it and to illuminate my
[43:46]heart uh with the uh salat or not it is something to
[43:52]think of brothers and sisters and to pounder upon and if we
[43:54]look at the history of the imams and if you read about
[44:00]their lives we see that the way they would approach worship in
[44:04]general the imam salaam alaihi one night time would come they would
[44:09]say welcome all night it is the time we meet our beloved
[44:14]how the imams they are waiting for this moment to connect with
[44:21]allah subhanahu this is the way this is the saluk this is
[44:26]the attitude of the awliya the representatives of allah subhanahu wa other
[44:32]than the imams because in the end we are representatives of allah
[44:35]subhanahu wa ta'ala that's why we need to be perfect examples of
[44:39]the religion of islam in always and the only way to be
[44:43]that is we have to reach perfection so we see that is
[44:49]the attitude of the scholars there's a nice story they mentioned about
[44:55]one of our great scholars and mystics who is uh buried in
[45:06]najaf near uh shrine he was a great mystic and it is
[45:08]said that he would stay up all night in ibada in worship
[45:14]until the sun rise and he would say his students or sometimes
[45:24]his son you would say that my father when the morning time
[45:29]would arrive he would say the morning has come and i have
[45:35]yet to fully enjoy my time with my beloved i am not
[45:42]fulfilled yet this is the real men who wants to use these
[45:48]moments to connect his heart or her heart with allah so ask
[45:53]your nuffish ask yourself when you reflect remember one of the steps
[45:58]we mentioned to something we need to do on a daily basis
[46:02]is reflection as imam al-qaeda says it's not from it's not from
[46:09]us it's not from the when i do so i need to
[46:14]ask myself how i approach this worship how do i view it
[46:16]how do i uh act upon it a person asks rasulallah just
[46:21]to show you that you know all of what i mentioned is
[46:24]not something made up or it's not something that our uh or
[46:30]the arafat just spoke about and it worked for them no rasulallah
[46:34]was once asked how do i know if allah subhanahu wa loves
[46:40]me and if i love him listen to the reply of rasulullah
[46:43]he says ask your heart does it miss salat or not and
[46:53]this is a lesson for us when we approach the salat once
[47:01]allah time comes am i eager to perform the salat in its
[47:08]moment not to postpone it for no reason to actually stand up
[47:11]once a lot time comes perform my wudu and stand in the
[47:17]hands of allah subhanahu wa because it says if you wait for
[47:23]that moment and you are looking forward for that meeting then that
[47:27]is when you are a true men and the same way how
[47:32]we said uh earlier in the previous discussion how there's a difference
[47:36]between in the same sense there is a difference between islam and
[47:43]iman islam is a person who recites the sahaba who says through
[47:49]the tongue and sometimes through the actions through the according to their
[47:54]appearance that this person is a muslim and he does the acts
[47:59]of the muslim he uh he or she they it's halal they
[48:02]are seen praying is that enough to be considered a mutman or
[48:07]not it's not iman is different iman is for the heart to
[48:16]recognize what it is doing yeah all of us pray insha'allah and
[48:19]when we stand on the prayer mount when we say alhamdulillah when
[48:28]i utter these words out of my mouth do i understand what
[48:34]i am saying or is it just words i'm reciting to get
[48:37]this washub off my chest when i am able to understand the
[48:44]meaning that they've seen understand what the reality of salat really and
[48:50]truly is understand why i am performing this actions as an act
[48:54]of worship as to show my true uh to allah it is
[49:06]to be sincere in the act that this action i am doing
[49:10]is for allah and strictly for allah this is the highest levels
[49:14]of islam so even in religion there's highest levels even in islam
[49:20]between islam and iman so the person who's just praised just so
[49:24]allah subhana wa tahala can save him and not punish him just
[49:30]because of that fear that they may have from the hell fire
[49:32]from the sins this salat even though it is accepted it's not
[49:41]the highest levels of salat and again this is from the mercy
[49:46]and from the love allah has towards his servant that he accepts
[49:52]this form of salat you want to pray you're praying out of
[49:56]fear for me the salat is accepted and i will you know
[50:00]give you the reward and you've done the wajib and this just
[50:05]shows how allah loves the servants that even whatever view you have
[50:10]towards this act of worship that if it's for me and if
[50:15]the main intention is for me then uh it's accepted if it's
[50:19]for fear if it's out of love whatever it is it's accepted
[50:22]this is from the rahmah of allah subhanahu wa but of course
[50:26]if i want to elevate this level or this spiritual connection this
[50:32]act has to be out of love out of hope out of
[50:36]true sincerity uh to and we all know that uh was the
[50:57]first the one the first one was given the honor to recite
[51:01]the adan the the call for prayer he will tell bilal bilal
[51:07]the stand up and relieve us with the call for prayer bilal
[51:12]it's time for prayer i need it we need it we miss
[51:19]it we need to connect with our beloved with our habib with
[51:25]our you see the people of the akhirah those who do not
[51:29]care about this dunya those who just look at things materialistically that
[51:35]even some some of us some of the muslims some of the
[51:39]shias whenever we hear about death or whenever we think about death
[51:42]we have this fear this worry oh we're thinking of what's going
[51:46]to happen in the grave how's the hada going to be how
[51:50]does munka and nakir look how is that moment going to be
[51:54]what's going to happen uh what are the different representations that are
[51:58]shown in the great and so on and so forth however in
[52:02]reality the people of the akhirah which are the baits and their
[52:07]true followers the true shia those who have true marijuana those who
[52:09]have true hub for allah and allah they treat death as it
[52:16]is a meeting with the one who loves you they are ready
[52:21]for it yeah the people of inshallah we ask allah to be
[52:25]from these people of we await that moment when allah subhanahu wa
[52:30]ta'ala takes us because we are ready hanas we know we've done
[52:32]our wajibat and stayed away from the muharram like the likes of
[52:36]salman and pharisee as an example the great companion is from us
[52:46]it is said that when salman was on his deathbed and the
[52:50]angel of death came to take his soul he welcomes the angel
[52:56]of death and he says greetings o angel of death the whom
[53:00]the the one whom i have been waiting for the one who
[53:05]will take me to meet my lord take my soul i am
[53:11]ready this is the sign of the true believer the the understanding
[53:15]the view of life that in the end when allah takes me
[53:20]from this realm to the next it is the time in where
[53:26]i have that meeting with allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala that's why anything i
[53:32]perform in my life should revolve around allah through this art of
[53:38]mine through the insurance the expanding of my heart in order to
[53:42]perform the worship with love and with sincere so this is the
[53:46]first level of um the first level of the divine love which
[53:53]is as we said and in shirah the expanding of the heart
[53:57]the second level and i'll try to uh mention this quickly we're
[54:00]running out of time the second level is an injidab and it
[54:05]is attraction this is when you progress in your relationship with allah
[54:09]you become a person who is in constant thought of allah you
[54:18]are attracted to allah in every minute in every hour and every
[54:23]second of your day and in inshallah we are going to recite
[54:26]it in a few minutes one of the lines of this dua
[54:31]which stands out the most is when imam ali alayhi salaam says
[54:36]fajr al-isani full of your love at all times how do what
[54:48]what level is that that's the level of injury when all i
[54:53]see is the uh presence of allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala any act i
[54:58]want to do any action i do not approach it if i
[55:00]know allah does not like it if allah subhanahu wa is happy
[55:05]in this act and the decision i will take then i go
[55:08]ahead and perform it if it is not in that way then
[55:13]i shouldn't uh aslan in the first place approach it because i
[55:18]have attraction to allah subhanahu wa and that this love that at
[55:24]an individual this level of in jidab if we want to give
[55:26]a practical example of it uh we look at the asahab of
[55:32]imam and hussain specifically you've all probably heard the story of abbas
[55:37]in the stories you hear on the mimbar in muharram uh that
[55:42]companion who was old who participated in the battle suffering by the
[55:45]way at the time of amir romanian salam and his tribe were
[55:52]praised for their bravery in the battle of suffering in the battle
[55:57]of karbala he takes off his armor and he approaches the enemy
[56:04]and they look at him the enemies of allah like abbas are
[56:08]you like did you lose it are you gone insane are you
[56:13]crazy what does abbas reply with the famous line so this love
[56:19]brothers and sisters this love can make a person go crazy can
[56:23]make a person go insane but if it's for towards the divine
[56:28]if it's for the imam of my time which through that imam
[56:31]of my time i can reach allah through that because they are
[56:34]the ropes they are the link of connection between the habit and
[56:40]the creator then that love is true and genuine love this is
[56:45]the level of in jiddab when i am attracted to allah and
[56:49]last but not least is the third level is the highest level
[56:55]which is the level of annihilation in islamic mysticism they call it
[57:02]darajit al-fanafillah and where the seeker annihilates himself or herself and where
[57:08]they do not think of themselves anymore yeah and basically your your
[57:12]body is still there you're moving you're looking you still have your
[57:15]senses however in reality the soul is not there all everything you
[57:23]do revolves around god yeah and you do not even think about
[57:25]your own emotions about your own feelings anymore anything this is after
[57:32]injury there's an interrelation between these three levels and this is the
[57:37]highest of levels this is the level in where uh say this
[57:45]you know she saw the tragedies that happened in front of her
[57:50]own eyes the death of her brother the martyrdom of hussain the
[57:57]horrific crimes that the enemies of allah subhanahu wa tahalah made and
[58:03]committed what did she say she accepted and she said her famous
[58:15]line in which became one of the most powerful lines and messages
[58:19]and coats of all time i see nothing but beauty why did
[58:26]zayn of salaam allah see beauty despite what was in front of
[58:31]her because her because her heart is annihilated it is uh in
[58:38]the level of for allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala we ask allah subhanahu wa
[58:43]ta'ala to give us the power and the strength insha allah to
[58:49]reach that level of love of annihilation and where we see nothing
[58:54]but allah azzawajal and may allah enlighten our hearts through the knowledge
[59:03]of salaam inaugural a very powerful and beautiful lecture on how to
[59:21]attain that level of love with allah through salat and all the
[59:26]various examples that you gave chala the the audience has benefited from
[59:32]that we didn't have any questions i think there was just a
[59:37]comment um i'm just going to bring it up on the screen
[59:38]and then maybe we'll just spend the uh a minute or two
[59:43]and then we can uh start the dua inshallah shouldn't we be
[59:48]careful not to be overly judgmental of others and their status within
[59:51]their journey since no one knows better what's in their heart of
[59:55]the believer except god himself and what about the famous narration of
[59:59]a prostitute who gave water to a thirsty dog from her shoe
[60:03]and all her sins are forgiven i fear sometimes others get discouraged
[60:05]because they lack a good idea or opinion of allah may god
[60:13]help us all so uh it's not exactly a question but maybe
[60:16]just shed a thought on on that comment just like just the
[60:31]comment the sister mentioned the reason i'm i'm saying this all of
[60:36]the examples i gave when i said allah created us with these
[60:40]faculties and with these powers deep within is to understand that allah
[60:45]loves us and we need to have this in the back of
[60:48]our head loves us as servants of his and allah wants us
[60:53]to reach perfection so we should have a positive image of allah
[60:56]subhana wa and there are so many narrations that speak about this
[60:58]i never had the the opportunity to speak about them but if
[61:02]we were to expand further and go more in depth we see
[61:05]the uh some of the narration say ana antonia abdul and in
[61:13]he's telling us that i am what my servant and my believer
[61:16]thinks of me if he thinks higher than it's higher and if
[61:21]he thinks that it and our is and the image we have
[61:27]towards allah it's not always uh we that we have to have
[61:31]fear from allah's panel it's both and not just fear and not
[61:36]just a hope that's why there's a very beautiful tradition which says
[61:43]that meant that the human being has two wings and the wing
[61:58]from the day of judgment fear from the hellfire fear from disobeying
[62:02]the creator of the universe and at the same time to have
[62:07]raja to have a hope in allah's mercy and have hope that
[62:10]allah subhanahu wa allah will look after me and through the shafa'a
[62:14]and the intercession of salam i am able to achieve eternal happiness
[62:20]and i am able to uh reach the paradise insha allah so
[62:24]our image you know we're not so well i'm not i never
[62:26]uh said to be judgmental about anyone it's just that we need
[62:32]to understand that if we want to elevate ourselves to the highest
[62:35]levels there are some certain standards that we need to reach we
[62:39]need to reach through iman even the idea when i perform my
[62:47]worship out of fear to allah out of uh worry it's totally
[62:51]fine in some people that's their relationship with allah it's a business
[62:55]relationship and that relationship you actually there's no problem with it it's
[63:00]accepted you've done your wah jab and allah you did your that's
[63:02]all what's needed but you want to elevate yourself we're talking about
[63:07]an in-depth discussion here yeah you want to grow stronger there are
[63:10]some certain standards you need to reach uh thank you very much
[63:19]uh for your time and for your lecture today on behalf of
[63:21]the brothers and sisters uh inshallah we will keep you in our
