[0:22]mean obama sunday allah muhammad ali muhammad a la la la diva
[0:28]kita pilgrims will have rahmanir rahim Nana come lay let us see
[0:32]em refer to Allah Missa I come I mean novella so that
[0:35]Allahu al aliyul azeem the discussion surrounding the holy month of Ramadan
[0:40]is primarily found in Surat al-baqarah in the Holy Quran Allah subhana
[0:44]WA Ta'ala in this particular chapter discusses of a number of verses
[0:50]namely from verse hundred and eighty-three to verse 187 laws pertaining to
[0:56]fasting but at the same time discusses some of the ethical spiritual
[1:02]and historical elements associated with this important act of worship indeed the
[1:10]first reference when we discussed the month of Ramadhan should be from
[1:15]the Holy Quran isn't it because of course Allah subhana WA Ta'ala
[1:19]mentions that which is necessary for us to grasp and indeed realize
[1:26]and the first verse you know that Allah - Allah Tala talks
[1:29]about is you know when it comes to this is ya un
[1:33]ladina when you Akiba alaikum o siamo , Kuti by Allah Lavina
[1:36]man public on the on the contact the whole now without going
[1:41]to necessarily depth on the verses I just want to look at
[1:44]the final ayah very very briefly but here I recall a wonderful
[1:47]story from the life of Imam Jafar Hamad Al Saud salawatullahi wa
[1:54]salamu alayh one time he was working hard in his farm or
[1:57]somewhere with a shovel sweating profusely because it was quite hot and
[2:01]he was fasting somebody came to him and said to him yet
[2:07]never so Allah don't you get tired you know you're fasting and
[2:12]working so hard how can you reconcile so Amani salaam looked at
[2:17]him and says let Vuitton meda and Sun it up the beauty
[2:24]of being cool the sweetness of being referred to has made me
[2:29]forget the tiredness what is he mom asada talking here is saying
[2:36]a lot about a catalysis yeah aun Molina are metal he specifically
[2:41]chosen us he has invited us he has selected us to observe
[2:47]the fast of the holy month of Ramadan and in itself that's
[2:51]a great honor now these particular verses when they start with this
[2:59]go on to discuss for example the obligation of course upon the
[3:04]believers the fact that it was practiced by the people at the
[3:09]past in different ways the exclusion jurisprudentially because of illness or traveling
[3:14]went a sumo higher on Lancome if you fast is best for
[3:20]you is good for you you know the fact that the holy
[3:24]of Quran was revealed in the month of Ramadan the fact that
[3:29]when you observe the holy month you know you have to fast
[3:32]I mean sure he Dominica which are a failure song and then
[3:37]some say you have to obviously observe the moon you have to
[3:41]begin the fast and takbir in Eid when you took up the
[3:46]allah allah the command the idea is that we do a lot
[3:50]of tech beer went on from about finished and and allah subhanaw
[3:53]taala another theme as well is that a lot of our cult
[3:59]allah does not want to burden us with that which we cannot
[4:03]necessarily bear now verse 187 is interesting I would like to discuss
[4:07]it with the the view of the current situation and the isolation
[4:15]you know the idea that today people are in a kind of
[4:18]a challenging time and one of the results of the isolation or
[4:21]quarantine or lockdown be what I call it is the relationship between
[4:27]husband and wife and that is sometimes maybe strange sometimes even you
[4:32]know improved because they have an opportunity to spend more time especially
[4:35]I have children if they have children maybe later on when the
[4:38]children are asleep they're able to have more kind of quality time
[4:46]with themselves but I would like to really look at that verse
[4:49]with the view of the isolation and fasting in this month of
[4:51]Ramadan and how he tackles so Han along with in those verses
[4:55]by the way one ayah in the middle is way that's the
[4:58]laki body underneath any acharya is to do with da when my
[5:01]servant asks you about me I am close I answer the door
[5:05]of Who am I whomsoever supplicates to me now here as well
[5:09]am as 1887 there is a discussion regarding marriage there is a
[5:14]discussion regarding enhance on enhancing marital relationship and it's linked to fasting
[5:18]and it's links to observing the month of Ramadan and this is
[5:21]very interesting for us to kind of reflect upon and just ponder
[5:25]as we enter and begin this holy blessed month now the narrations
[5:28]tell us that a number of restrictions were present you know at
[5:33]that time initially with regards to those who observed the faster the
[5:37]time of the holy prophet muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam the Sahaba
[5:40]there was a number of restrictions that exist even today but some
[5:43]have been removed from the outside the believers were not allowed to
[5:49]have the intimate relationship with their spouse even during the nights of
[5:56]the month of Ramadan and so the whole month they were not
[6:00]permitted to do anything you know regarding physical intimacy obviously you know
[6:06]it was quite a challenging one there is a majority nursery in
[6:11]his during month or says that you know some Sahaba couldn't even
[6:14]adhere to this and broke this particular obligation you know some of
[6:22]them quite well known according to the imam sadiq ali salam if
[6:27]anyone you know they they actually slept one of the rules was
[6:34]that if they slept without if bar they must stay fasting till
[6:38]the next day so that was also something that was there that
[6:43]you know that's it that's that's how the rules were and in
[6:47]fact there was a man by the name of Huaraz Andrew Bayer
[6:52]who was you know after life Andrew Beier was martyred and I
[6:54]heard that ahead of the arches on the Mount there he was
[6:58]his brother he was an elderly man who used to it was
[7:00]easy oh she observed the fast and one day he came home
[7:04]after mezrab and asked if there was food they said ten No
[7:06]so they were preparing food and they said Tim don't sleep until
[7:11]you have your thought but he slept he woke up the next
[7:13]morning and he hadn't had anything he hadn't broken up broken as
[7:17]fast so he went to dig the trench with the holy prophet
[7:19]you know the Honda because the conductor battlin that happened towards the
[7:23]end of the month of Ramadan and in the Essex after China
[7:28]obviously over five after hijra and what happens was that it you
[7:32]know the battle then went into the month of Shawwal anyway so
[7:37]when he was digging the trench he fainted and the Prophet felt
[7:41]a sense of great empathy for him and of course we are
[7:44]told that the verse was actually revealed this verse now the verse
[7:51]says or held alikom lailatul Salam it is permitted for you at
[7:55]the night of the fasting day another here when the verse says
[7:59]this is what okay 987 says enough that is what love is
[8:04]the way the love is speak to each other you know by
[8:06]themselves and not necessarily in front of all this now come on
[8:12]uses suitable words you know respected words words that are not obviously
[8:15]got from any profanity or anything like that and it's full of
[8:18]other etiquettes right so this is in reference to physical relationship between
[8:22]a husband and wife and a lost parent Allah allowed this to
[8:27]happen at night during the month of Ramadan and so you recognize
[8:30]that this was something that gave a lot of believers a lot
[8:35]of happiness and you know joy that this was as necessarily lifted
[8:38]but then the Quran goes on you know yes that ruling has
[8:42]been presented but then there is something else hon many bars from
[8:46]Lancome one too many bathroom and subhanallah see there is a discussion
[8:50]about fasting there is a discussion about the room being taken but
[8:54]now a lot of adequate Allah is talking about a fundamental aspect
[8:57]of strengthening a marital relationship and that is to take each other
[9:02]as garments this is a beautifully summarized in terms of how a
[9:06]successful marital relationship should be because when we look at the objective
[9:10]of clothing we recognize that it gives us like protection it provides
[9:18]for us Beauty it gives us an identity we choose it carefully
[9:22]it hides defects and it protects from actually you know things that
[9:28]we don't want necessarily others to see they may not necessarily be
[9:36]defects so the Quranic observation here is that look your wife and
[9:40]you are both like garments for each other you should protect each
[9:44]other you should be a source of beauty for each other in
[9:48]other words present yourself good for each other you know protect each
[9:52]other number one means that when it comes to speaking about each
[9:55]other speak well of each other in front of others and if
[9:59]others criticize or say something bad then try not to jump on
[10:02]this you know bandwagon and yeah say yeah yeah I know my
[10:06]wife is this over yeah yeah you know my husband it's terrible
[10:08]like this that's wrong right you should be helping each other as
[10:11]one team as much as you can right and second be beautifying
[10:16]each other for each other and not for anyone else especially for
[10:20]our sisters out there you know I know it isolation is difficult
[10:23]and stuff and so on and so forth but to be you
[10:27]know especially at times where you are alone with the husband for
[10:32]a physical relationship to take place this this needs to be observed
[10:36]and it's highly recommended for the brothers to be able to be
[10:40]you know well groomed to have a good smell and so on
[10:44]and so forth well presented this is Lama cat Achatz by the
[10:46]way you know before the Western world has come with these kind
[10:52]of recommendations Islam actually emphasize them identity you know when we are
[10:55]married it give a particular source to kind of refer back to
[11:01]because married couples and marriage itself is blessed in the eyes of
[11:08]Allah so Allah Ta'ala it's you know the prayer of a somebody
[11:10]who is married is Toro cats is much more 70 times more
[11:15]than somebody who is not married and of course it hides defects
[11:19]that we may have so we must hide it from each other
[11:24]and it helps us something that we choose and it gives us
[11:27]happiness and joy and that's what we should be as married couples
[11:32]to each other this idea of the là-bas you know quran tells
[11:35]us winnable suit agua Dominica here and in gender when the bathroom
[11:39]fee ha ha real but in genom were told but not the
[11:44]urban men are in sort of address number 19 so there is
[11:48]a lot of talk about clothing in the holy quran and one
[11:51]of them is physical clothing with regards to gender and gender but
[11:57]then there is this very important idea that there is al abbas
[12:00]with taqwa radical al there is the garments of taqwa so Han
[12:06]Allah how this loboslewd taqwa needs to be present within marital relationships
[12:11]how it's so crucial that in marital relationships one always observes the
[12:16]fact that allah subhanaw taala is observing them and it's not acting
[12:21]and dealing with each other with the spirit of ego or to
[12:26]force one over the other or to show that they're right and
[12:28]the other is wrong and so much happens during conflicts or you
[12:32]know challenging times between the husband and wife but you know to
[12:37]observe that what the month of Ramadan is a month of seeking
[12:41]that provision and you know when we anticipate it and we take
[12:45]from it as imam zain Nabataean says you are something that either
[12:50]bill the Friends of Allah so pleased with but the wretched feel
[12:52]it's like a heavy burden it's like a you know in my
[12:57]own words like a rock being placed on the chest of someone
[12:58]is the month of Ramadan like this for us and so when
[13:02]we are on this journey of attaining more and more taqwa and
[13:04]being more God conscious it has to reflect primarily in our family
[13:08]relationship especially in this current time where we are offering more time
[13:12]with the family this is maybe a lost planet Allah maybe maybe
[13:16]Allah knows maybe this is a message to say that look we've
[13:23]ignored some of us maybe are busy you know outside working traveling
[13:27]maybe we've ignored our families maybe ignored our responsibilities the issues of
[13:32]tabia is you're building a real strong connection in home with each
[13:37]other you know sitting down building on our communications developing our skills
[13:43]learning tools to enhance the marital relationship there's so much out there
[13:48]that we can read and benefit and utilize and discuss and seek
[13:51]help you know and of course you know while staying positive and
[13:58]encouraging and you know the verse of the Quran then goes on
[14:00]to discuss you know know some of the other aspects to do
[14:05]with fasting and observing it but just to conclude you know in
[14:09]this day and age also unfortunately there is a rise in sometimes
[14:12]tension or god forbid domestic abuse this is unacceptable our sisters or
[14:18]indeed brothers if they're at the receiving end of physical or indeed
[14:22]psychological abuse then they should seek help they should you know look
[14:26]at their own communities help support networks contact others who will help
[14:31]them they should not indeed suffer in silence and be able to
[14:37]reach out and develop you know some kind of protection for themselves
[14:41]or solutions to make sure this kind of thing actually stops now
[14:46]just to mention one more point with regards to this aspect of
[14:53]the holy month of Ramadan it is beautiful to utilize the month
[14:56]of Ramadan to enhance the marital relationship and also think about it
[14:59]this way that you know at home we can perform Salah together
[15:02]maybe Gemara together you know we're having it far together that spirit
[15:08]of cohesiveness should exist and continue afterwards as well yes life may
[15:12]not be the same as now because these are exceptional circumstances but
[15:15]we must learn not to ignore each other give each other attention
[15:19]time you know understand what they would like to be loved through
[15:25]for example analyzing what's known as the love languages out there that
[15:29]exists that you can research that says there are five love languages
[15:33]people love to be loved and certain way and so we love
[15:35]them in that way and that will enhance their appreciation of us
[15:40]as well may allah subhanaw taala bless you all grant to tell
[15:43]fear and bless us all to be able to enhance and strengthen
[15:48]the marriage in the month of Ramadan wha-hoo Darwin and hamdulillahi rabbil
[15:52]alameen wa sallahu wa ala nabina muhammad while he beta by a
[15:56]beam appalling
