[1:41]would like to offer my well wishes and congratulations to the imam

[1:48]of our time al imam sahib al-asri was the man for the

[1:54]birth anniversary of his grandfather al-imam amir al-mu'min salam then also i

[2:02]offer my congratulations to a little bait alaihi muslim especially to their

[2:11]mother and also i offer my well wishes and congratulations to the

[2:22]entire ummah at large especially the shia of salam and more importantly

[2:30]my congratulations goes to the community of islamic institute of america and

[2:39]i pray to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that we are all the

[2:45]true followers of imam amir al-may allah grant all of us the

[2:53]tawfiq to earn the shafa of imam ali insha allah tonight as

[3:01]we are celebrating this great occasion the birth of allah and more

[3:11]specific the birth of imam ali and ali islam i would like

[3:15]to talk about the topic our brother just mentioned meaning know your

[3:21]imam what does it mean when we say the word al imam

[3:28]what does it mean because i see that many of muslims don't

[3:36]understand this word when we say imam ali imam al-hasan imam al-hussein

[3:44]we normally don't understand what this word means before we go to

[3:57]talk about this word i want everybody to understand that nobody like

[4:05]me can speak enough about imam ali that is impossible and not

[4:12]just me no person ordinary person on the planet who can speak

[4:19]about imam ali as he deserves and this is not my words

[4:25]this is coming from rasulullah no one is able to recognize you

[4:46]as you deserve to be recognized except allah and i people lived

[4:52]with imam ali they saw him they mingle with him but they

[4:58]really didn't recognize him now let me show you one example which

[5:02]proves that they didn't recognize who imam ali was as imam ali

[5:07]stand on member and says can you tell me how much how

[5:21]much hair do i have in my head and my beard do

[5:25]you think this person recognizes imam ali then imam ali looks at

[5:31]him on the face and he says the prophet told me that

[5:46]there is a shaytan and the each of your head cursing you

[5:52]within the day of ram these are the people normally dealt with

[5:56]they didn't recognize with imam ali that is why it's very important

[6:03]for us to understand as we call ourselves is very important to

[6:08]some extent to recognize this imam because as you know we all

[6:13]read in our dua most of the time after salah we read

[6:17]this to our allah [Music] you are asking allah to give you

[6:54]the recognition the knowledge to know your imam that tells you something

[6:59]the importance of knowing your imam not only that albert tells us

[7:04]when we go to ziara the ziara is not what is required

[7:07]from you and i ziara becomes important but what is more important

[7:13]is then that's your choice wait so when we talk about imam

[7:37]imam we have to understand what is the imam that we're talking

[7:41]about and not only is that important in every stage of your

[7:45]life you need imam every stage now in this world you need

[7:55]imam in barzah you need imam yamala in this world you cannot

[8:05]live and survive and find the right path with that imam and

[8:12]the reason is that we just read if i don't recognize my

[8:19]imam to andini you need imam when we bury a person in

[8:23]the grave one of the [Music] we will call you by the

[9:10]imam you choose that should tell you the importance of imam so

[9:14]when you see about this importance of willard and shahada we celebrate

[9:18]we mourn you have to understand where we're coming about the importance

[9:23]of imam that is why tonight i choose to talk about know

[9:30]your imam and if you don't know your imam as you supposed

[9:34]to trust me you cannot claim to be their followers trust me

[9:40]you know there's no hadith that's salaam during his lifetime people come

[9:44]and say i took then i said no no no you're not

[9:56]there is no features of the shia of our ship in you

[10:02]i don't see it so it doesn't matter what you call yourself

[10:05]she follow up a little bit if you don't meet the criteria

[10:10]then you are not the sheriff for that matter tonight we want

[10:14]to just take some lesson about how do i recognize my who

[10:18]is imam as we call them imam number one the word imam

[10:24]is an arabic word kalimat imam kalimatun arabi from arabic and the

[10:32]word imam has two meanings one is called imam in arabic imam

[10:42]is somebody who's leading any leader is called imam in arabic and

[10:49]from this people who lead salat what do we call them the

[10:53]imam because they leave they stand in front of us to lead

[10:56]us a prayer so we call them imam and this word imam

[11:02]many times people take imam as somebody holy spiritual no no no

[11:07]somebody can be non-holy and he's still imam too and quran used

[11:13]those two words imam for good and imam forbade the good imam

[11:24]allah said we made them imams they guide and our command another

[11:31]bad imam allah called them [Applause] allah fight the lead the imams

[11:41]of disbelief but imam too so don't think that the word imam

[11:47]is holy thing everybody who is imam leader we call him no

[11:52]no no imam can be given to somebody who is misguided too

[11:57]and from that quran says it's included too that is in literally

[12:08]in arabic now when you come in the fake holy when we

[12:12]say the word imam what do we really mean how do we

[12:18]define imam now listen to allah you call them how did they

[12:24]find imam they said and i really want us to listen to

[12:34]each word as they define the word imam because the more we

[12:38]understand the definition of imam in our aqeedah it helps us to

[12:41]understand how deep these people can be and how significant the imam

[12:46]is they define imam imam i just want you to think your

[13:06]brothers and sisters imam is not a joke word sometimes some people

[13:11]cannot understand they say why do you say our prophet imams are

[13:15]better than the prophet some of us we hear that say no

[13:21]how can the prophet be less than the imam a prophet should

[13:24]be the higher position in islam but we said no our imams

[13:29]are better than the prophet even only asm except the holy prophet

[13:34]how do we make that how did we get that look in

[13:41]the definition it's a general leadership there are many prophets allah sent

[13:49]them but they were not general leaders they were leaders to certain

[13:52]communities is a prophet allah sent to him it's a messenger huh

[14:06]but allah says it's not a leader for everybody it's a leader

[14:11]to whom 200 people me 100 000 people that's it he's a

[14:16]prophet he's a messenger but his leadership doesn't include everybody but our

[14:22]imams they're imams and their leadership is general and not only that

[14:33]it says which includes includes um what do we mean um means

[14:44]human beings no miss jin no miss animals no what the word

[14:54]ummah means every creation on the planet imams are their leaders our

[15:02]imams they are leaders of all humanity they are leaders of all

[15:10]jinn they are leaders of all even animals because animals the power

[15:14]of um listen to the quran allah say the verse that flies

[15:23]that you see them they are also part of the umma too

[15:26]our imams they're leaders of even jinn too that's what in ziyarah

[15:31]what do you say in john and i mentioned this to understand

[15:39]sometimes when we hear the stories that imam spoke to a lion

[15:43]or the lion couldn't hurt imam how could that be possible when

[15:48]you understand the definition of imam then you understand the significance of

[15:53]what that imam is about so the words then he says in

[16:11]all fields and that's one of the misconceptions we think we think

[16:16]our imams when they are the imams in terms of salat akam

[16:19]fajr salad zakat hajj but when imam comes and let's say for

[16:23]example in the field of 80s imam doesn't know anything like you

[16:28]and i say okay i know about history islamic yes but if

[16:34]you ask me about it i don't know anything about it our

[16:38]imams they are not just equipped and knowledgeable in akam i guarantee

[16:47]you if 12 imam is to show up today he will be

[16:53]the leader in all the 80s if the imam is to show

[16:58]up today the 12th imam any games our youth are very familiar

[17:01]with iman is the imam in that game too if you ask

[17:08]imam in basketball he is imam in your basketball too imam is

[17:13]not just a leader ensuring in every aspect that you can think

[17:18]of he is the best fiji and i pray to allah you

[17:26]get long life to see two of imam if you get a

[17:28]chance tell him i want to play saka with you and see

[17:29]how imam can show you how good his soccer player don't ever

[17:36]underestimate the power of imam ali during his time he was walking

[17:40]with his companions who doesn't recognize him he looked at the war

[17:46]and he said to them if i want i can make a

[17:52]light from these but the people couldn't understand what what how do

[17:55]you how can you make a light for me today our electricity

[17:59]where does it come from but imam already told them thousands of

[18:03]years but they couldn't recognize because they think imam is just about

[18:07]calm and fake nobody is beyond that this great imam was telling

[18:14]them back in those days that is the imam in every fault

[18:21]that you can think of imam is in that world this imam

[18:27]as we define them they have to come with three important qualities

[18:30]every imam that we call them imam he must have these tweetings

[18:36]number one every imam must be chosen by allah no imam ever

[18:47]been elected like yes there's a surah people sat down saying we

[18:51]want you that's cannot be chosen by any human being el imam

[19:01]must be chosen by allah because of the importance of this position

[19:05]allah didn't let people to choose now somebody can ask why can't

[19:13]we choose imam i say you can but the thing is you

[19:15]might not choose the right imam for yourself and a simple example

[19:21]how many of us we chose president in this country huh and

[19:26]the first year you were so excited into masha'allah i got to

[19:31]go out and stand in a line so many hours put your

[19:33]election and then after you say oh god i wish i knew

[19:41]better can't wait four years to be over right counting day this

[19:44]is the person you elect right now you realize something you did

[19:48]not know now if allah is to let you and i to

[19:52]choose imam do you think what's going to happen to allah say

[19:56]this imam is so holy that i should not put in your

[20:01]hand it should be me so the imam must be chosen by

[20:06]whom by allah every imam is chosen by allah that's the first

[20:16]thing number two every imam also must have a knowledge that comes

[20:26]from allah not my knowledge and your knowledge that i learned from

[20:30]somebody sometimes after years you realize oh that was wrong knowledge i

[20:33]got no no no the knowledge comes from allah and is pure

[20:41]and clean and knows everything that is why our imams nobody ever

[20:45]asked them question and they said that word never came in the

[20:53]mouth of alibi why that knowledge that they have comes from allah

[21:01]subhanahu and you can see that in mini nobody ever asked him

[21:13]a question and he said no i don't know he was the

[21:17]only person in the history ever went on the member and said

[21:24]allah check in the history no person ever stood on the member

[21:30]and made this this statement except imam ali their knowledge come from

[21:37]allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala their knowledge never came from human being that's why

[21:42]no teacher nobody in the history of alibaba ever said that i

[21:45]taught imam al-jawad our imam al-hadi was my student or imam jaffar

[21:52]was there's never this in history as a matter of fact everyone

[21:55]who is knowledgeable always said my teacher is this imam but was

[22:02]never imam said he is my teacher never that is number two

[22:09]number three every imam also not only he has to have these

[22:11]two qualities he must also be ma assume his actions must be

[22:21]pure too what's the meaning of esma no but let me see

[22:25]these brothers and sisters you know the word esma doesn't have a

[22:31]proper translation in english because when you look at the english when

[22:34]you say infallibility when you check in dictionary informability means somebody who

[22:41]cannot commit sin but that's not what asthma is our imams they

[22:44]can commit sin if they choose but they choose not to there's

[22:51]a difference between no i cannot put somebody in the prison and

[22:55]you lock them up i said no i cannot steal because i'm

[22:57]a mushroom i haven't committed stealing for years yes because you're locked

[23:02]up yes if you are out would you be the same thing

[23:05]no we don't know that right so the option is not there

[23:10]for you that's why we have el es barrier our imam they

[23:23]assumes if they want to say they can't but they choose not

[23:27]to sin every muslim must possess these three attributes if this is

[23:33]clear let's come to imam no one is match of imam ali

[23:50]except rasulullah and this is not just a claim but why are

[23:56]you exaggerating why are you talking about imam the quran says there

[23:59]i didn't say there was no human being allah ever created which

[24:05]is equivalent to imam ali other than rasulullah there's nobody and this

[24:11]is one of the reasons you have to understand when we say

[24:13]our imams are better than the other prophet this is the ayah

[24:16]from the quran when ayatollah in the quran allah is telling you

[24:27]not me allah is telling you ya bring somebody who is your

[24:34]nafs yourself now check all the tafseer who did they bring other

[24:38]than him who is nafsun now someone who is not sunnah can

[24:45]he be matched with anybody that is why when they ask imam

[24:52]humble now humble one of the four schools of thought of alistair

[24:56]newell they asked him question about a sahaba they say man who

[25:01]was who do you think they are the companions of the prophet

[25:04]you see abu bakr the first companion that i know um the

[25:13]mouth man from a man he said that's it these are the

[25:19]great companions that i know of then the second question comes now

[25:26]listen to his answer beautiful coming from alem alison he says nafsin

[25:39]nabi so you asked me about the companions and i just told

[25:48]you if you are to ask me who is equivalent to ima

[25:53]to the prophet i would have told you that you know in

[25:59]terms of quality no match except rasulullah this imam ali al-islam is

[26:08]one of the imams of agnes tonight our time is getting closer

[26:13]but i just want us to take something home as we learn

[26:18]from imam ali and ali my dear brothers and sisters every year

[26:21]we think we sit down we celebrate imam ali is not just

[26:26]on the mouth on tongues it's more about actions as we celebrate

[26:33]every year every year as we learn from imam ali it should

[26:40]change our lack our character our attribute and lives and tonight i

[26:43]just want to share three things as a take-home message from imam

[26:47]al-inali one thing that is known about imam ali is very humble

[27:01]imam ali was never mutakable was never arrogant in every aspect of

[27:10]his life imam ali was very humble today let me ask you

[27:17]and i are we humble with our spouses i don't want you

[27:21]to answer me there's a question how do i treat my wife

[27:25]am i humble towards my wife or arrogance like a woman how

[27:32]do i treat my wife a husband how do we treat one

[27:39]another am i humbled towards my wife no brothers and sisters imam

[27:42]ali is not just yes yes yes no it's more the way

[27:52]imam ali talked to his wife and the way zahara talks to

[27:56]him is a lesson to our life to change today our marriage

[28:02]is having issues and problems one of them is lack of respect

[28:06]we need to change our lives at homes i'm a husband i

[28:11]have to have a respect for my wife i'm a wife i

[28:16]have to respect my husband the way i talk the way i

[28:21]speak let the akhlaq we learn from you and one example when

[28:28]you read haris as he walks home he says caliber comes home

[28:39]and he talks and address his wife with these beautiful words his

[28:45]wife also as she addresses him she says we call our husbands

[28:56]imam ali and zara they teaching us about social life in marriage

[29:02]imam ali his humbleness have reached to the point he walks in

[29:07]the court system where he is the khalifa he is the imam

[29:09]as he walks in the court the judge looks at him he

[29:13]calls the other person his name and he calls imam ali amir

[29:16]al-mu'min imam ali said no don't call me and call him by

[29:23]name as we walk in this court we're all equal look at

[29:29]the humbleness a man takes his sword and the man who happened

[29:34]to in this situation he took imam ali's sword huh and imam

[29:37]ali wanted the sword back he still always arguing with imam ali

[29:40]no i didn't have your sword let's go to the court now

[29:44]i guarantee you any pound any muslim country forget about non-muslim any

[29:47]muslim country today you take any president's shoe right the president walks

[29:55]in the center place as i grab his shoes gonna see what

[29:57]he's gonna do i guarantee you you're not gonna see a son

[30:02]anymore that's it you're gonna disappear for taking the presents you that

[30:19]is lesson number one for tonight humbleness in our relationship children we

[30:25]have to be humble towards our parents respect your parents be humble

[30:30]when it comes to your mother and your father don't be arrogant

[30:36]just because i have this degree that degree i am bored when

[30:39]you come to your father and mother be humble never think you're

[30:44]going to be arrogant to your parents and expect your children to

[30:49]be humble it doesn't work like that you can never plant the

[30:54]seed of a corn and expect banana you might expect that in

[31:00]the la la land but not on this land huh whatever you

[31:03]plant it's what you're going to sew if you and i as

[31:07]a children we plant the the seed of respect to our parents

[31:11]trust me your children will grow up respect you be humble just

[31:18]because i have many people working under me i come home i

[31:22]disrespect my father my mother my elders that's not the shia of

[31:28]imam ali that's the first message for tonight the second message of

[31:31]tonight brothers and sisters from imam ali imam ali alayhi salaam lived

[31:39]a very very simple life simple food simple clothe simple life even

[31:52]though he was the khalifa the money is there he can play

[31:55]with it as he wish but he never lived that luxury life

[32:01]today allah bless you you have a lot imam ali look at

[32:05]them as your example live a simple life your food your eat

[32:13]is simple your clothing should be simple these are the true of

[32:19]imam ali because he is the team brother we shouldn't lie to

[32:25]ourselves okay because remember the words now you cannot call yourself shia

[32:39]when imam ali does something and you do something different and how

[32:42]can you be shia you can be she by acting the way

[32:49]ahlil bait actor and they were very very simple we need to

[32:55]learn to be very simple in every aspect of lives do not

[33:03]waste in every any aspect of your life and i'm talking waste

[33:07]and many things water electricity in the house masha'allah some of us

[33:11]who have the big houses you see people are upset but all

[33:13]the electricity downstairs is on well i can't afford it so what's

[33:18]the big deal yes but it still is rough the water i'm

[33:24]expect i'm spending i'm using water for with my sometimes running i'm

[33:28]on the phone right 10 15 minutes and the water running and

[33:32]it's holistic no you can't be the she must live simple life

[33:40]that is lesson number two let's adopt simplicity in everything be simple

[33:48]when you deal with people don't be too tough i will never

[33:51]forgive i'll let no i'll never let it go no be simple

[33:54]in every aspect of life that is lesson number two lesson three

[34:00]let's all be the sheer of imam ali by learning to share

[34:09]with people who are less fortunate and today there are many of

[34:18]them i cannot call myself shiite well i'm not taking care of

[34:23]people imam ali taught me to you know when imam ali was

[34:24]there they used to call him the father of the orphans and

[34:32]the widows that's what he know what he was even narrating say

[34:34]when imam ali walks up in the morning for fajr as he

[34:40]called the adhan the children in kufa says this is the voice

[34:50]of our father they call them and you know and i know

[34:56]historically how he cares for their people in kufa he used to

[34:59]carry food on his shoulder and give to those who are less

[35:04]fortunate in the society today we have so many of them in

[35:10]this country so many of them in iraq so many of them

[35:13]in yemen so many of them in other parts of the world

[35:20]afghanistan what are we doing as the followers of imam ali in

[35:24]that term let's be the shia of salam by action not just

[35:30]by words and i pray to allah that these three actions we

[35:36]can put it this year as the year of imam ali al-islam

[35:39]in action so that next year we learn something more to become

[35:45]better followers of imam ali al-islam i pray to allah to bless

[35:50]this happy occasion of the birth of imam amir al-mu'min and may

[35:54]allah grant all of you the tawfiq of muhammad thank you dear

[36:20]can we give him another loud salawat uh quick reminder before we

[36:31]continue tonight's program we'll have a gift raffle uh at the end

[36:34]of the arabic program inshallah so please if you don't mind help

[36:39]me in welcoming our dear brother nuri sardar with a poetry performance

[36:45]after three loud salah muhammad muhammad i'm no date seller but i

[37:16]aspire to be in the love of ali i yearn to be

[37:21]maytham maithima tamar as we know was one of the greatest companions

[37:26]of salam to the extent it is a beautiful story where nathan

[37:30]before he met imam ali was a slave in the markets and

[37:34]imma ali approached him and told him salaam alaikum at that time

[37:41]maitham said no one knows my name my real name except my

[37:45]mother so how do you know my name he says the prophet

[37:47]used to tell me about all the adventures that me and you

[37:49]would go on and how many would become great friends one day

[37:52]and as we know he was a tamar a date seller and

[37:56]in his honor i say i'm no date seller but i aspire

[38:03]to be in the love of ali i yearn to be nathan

[38:06]i'm tied not to a tree but tied to its root and

[38:12]the root of islam is abu talib sun mountains may be moved

[38:17]but my faith cannot be when one falls for ali that choice

[38:20]is long gone i hear them whisper that my love for him

[38:24]is too much don't they know that in his love i seek

[38:27]to drown that i sip from the rivers of walia of ali

[38:32]until the day that its blessings drown both my lungs mathem watered

[38:37]the tree upon which he would die i carried the crucifix which

[38:42]i'll be pinned on nathan knew no words except praises of ali

[38:47]and if i am blessed then mathem i will become and i

[38:53]shall recite the virtues of ali until the day they cut out

[38:58]my tongue and i shall recite the virtues of ali until the

[39:00]day they cut out my tongue let me get a second louder

[39:12]salah please and the third of the loudest new voices my first

[39:26]of two poems inshallah obviously i'd like to congratulate you all on

[39:30]this auspicious occasion the birth anniversary of our master the commander of

[39:35]the faithful ali who has a place deep in the core of

[39:40]all our hearts as shia and one of the ways that we

[39:42]can get to know this great individual is through the battles that

[39:47]he fought so inshallah my first poem will be about the battle

[39:51]of khaibar it's a story that where when you hear it no

[39:55]cannot shake his head and smile no pulpit cannot enjoy a lecturer

[40:02]hearing the story of the battle of khebar without showering praise upon

[40:08]its conqueror the great jewish tribe of benika lived in khebar when

[40:15]all others were poorer it was a land rich with dates and

[40:18]all those there were rich they'd sell better swords than any armorer

[40:22]their fortress of khaibar was one to be envied it was the

[40:28]best protector and the best shelter they envied islam and they envied

[40:33]muhammad wanting to be of islam the slaughterer so they would approach

[40:37]persia and they would approach rome saying who wants to make islam

[40:45]the sufferer why is it that muhammad sits in medina leaving the

[40:49]jew to be on the outskirts of lingara which wasn't true because

[40:53]the jews lived in medina in peace to comfort they could not

[40:58]be nearer the muslims would protect and would serve the jews no

[41:01]jew in medina would be a wanderer but themselves they sought murder

[41:07]and treason of peace itself they were each a slanderer looking to

[41:12]topple the appointed leader towards shaytan's ear it was a whisperer so

[41:18]the muslims departed with sixteen thousand an army that was of the

[41:25]defenseless aspara an army that met eight fortresses in khebar and of

[41:30]seven of those eight it was a scatterer until left was the

[41:33]fortress of khebar itself until left was the fortress of haber itself

[41:40]and emerged from khaibar a fearless warrior who cried i'm aware i

[41:48]am the fear of every murderer muhammad would give abu bakr the

[41:56]flag but of heber he was not a recoverer he gave it

[41:58]to omar but he returned to of victory neither of them was

[42:04]a wearer so the muslims were starred and they stood there for

[42:10]25 days victory became unclearer and unclearer until muhammad stood up and

[42:16]he announced to all muhammad stood up and he announced to them

[42:19]all tomorrow i will pick my own flag bearer god and me

[42:26]love him and him and me love god god and me love

[42:30]him and him and me love god of victory this man will

[42:35]be an explorer this man won't return empty-handed ever in fact on

[42:41]allah's behalf he will be a conqueror he went to ali and

[42:44]ali's eye was blind how many pairs of eyes could see so

[42:49]much clearer but muhammad took his saliva and he placed it in

[42:53]his eye and he placed his flag in the hand of this

[42:57]admirer so ali wrote out where he was met by marhab ali

[42:59]rode out where he was met by marhab who cried of warriors

[43:04]i am a torturer my mother named me marhab and all of

[43:10]heber knows that of the graves of warriors i i'm the preparer

[43:12]ali looked at him and his eyes glared into his two mountains

[43:16]stood off which was wearier ali raised the cry that made marahab's

[43:22]blood freeze when he said i am the one whose mother named

[43:25]him because he knew of his fate he took steps back because

[43:35]he knew of his fate that one named haidar would be his

[43:38]soul's capturer ali struck his helmet and his sword reached his teeth

[43:43]what happened next shook every swordsman and spearer the gate of heber

[43:48]that 44 couldn't lift he lifted it with one hand with god

[43:53]as his inspirer the jews of ainaka surrendered seeing a miracle of

[43:57]khaiba's victory he was the declarer it was after this day that

[44:04]ali split mankind it was after this day that ali split mankind

[44:09]those that loved him they became of him a ponderer while others

[44:16]would open their envious eyes hatred of him itself would be a

[44:21]conferrer to those that believed ali was faith embodied to those that

[44:27]didn't he was just a sorcerer but when he held kheba's door

[44:29]over his head he proved that into faith he was an adventurer

[44:35]he proved that into faith he was an adventurer muhammad give me

[44:46]a second please and a third allows your voices as you can

[45:00]see the cold of dearborn is really getting to me marshall it's

[47:54]yearn his dome of the secret of this warrior ask the battle

[47:59]within his heart the next that was never superior ask the two

[48:03]prongs of the oneness of its master ask his lover of heaven

[48:06]because they know the sweetness of the hereafter ask with an open

[48:19]heart and let your heart be filled with him then you may

[48:21]ask your heart of this wealth of love deep within ask ali

[48:26]of ali because ali is still living and he'll tell you everything
