[1:15]enlighten your hearts and illuminate your majalis with a loud salawat alaam
[1:19]muhammad wa'alee muhammad respected brothers and sisters the religion of islam has
[1:35]many negative sentiments against it in the world that we live in
[1:39]today islam has been labeled by many people in the west as
[1:45]a religion of terror and a religion of violence our god allah
[1:51]has been accused of being a god of vengeance and hatred and
[1:59]our prophet rasulullah has likewise been accused of being a man of
[2:08]violence and an inhumane man now we muslims when we come to
[2:14]defend our religion and deny these allegations we usually state that our
[2:23]religion's image has been distorted and our faith has been misrepresented and
[2:29]the true genuine islam is the religion of mercy and peace and
[2:34]the reason why islam is looked so negatively today in the world
[2:39]in the non muslim world in the west is because number one
[2:42]the actions of many extremists that have hijacked our religion and number
[2:48]two the propaganda of the media that is constantly trying trying to
[2:53]show our religion in a negative way and number three the misunderstandings
[2:59]that some have of particular verses in the quran and certain incidents
[3:04]in the life of our prophet that may lead someone to believe
[3:08]that islam is a violent religion but at the end of the
[3:13]day when we try to justify and defend many non muslims just
[3:17]don't buy that they don't accept the fact that islam is a
[3:21]peaceful religion they have a hard time accepting how is this religion
[3:26]so peaceful when day after day time after time we see these
[3:30]muslims that carry out these acts of terrorism in the name of
[3:34]islam and they all do it in the name of the god
[3:38]of islam that you find every time one of these terrorists wants
[3:42]to for example explode himself before that they say these two words
[3:46]allahu akbar god is great these two words now in this world
[3:50]mean what means i'm gonna blow up myself so when they see
[3:55]all these acts of terrorism that are happening in the name of
[3:58]islam they find it hard to believe that islam is a religion
[4:02]of peace that it's not a violent religion and they tell you
[4:06]on the contrary that no we believe that terrorism is intertwined with
[4:11]islam and islam is inherently evil and violent and the reason why
[4:16]these people these muslims are carrying out these acts is because their
[4:20]religion and their faith inspires them to do so so in order
[4:25]for us brothers and sisters to clear these misconceptions that many non
[4:28]muslims have against islam being violent and inhumane and the religion of
[4:33]terror we have to always remind them and stress on two important
[4:38]points number one we have to always make this clear distinction that
[4:43]there is islam and there are muslims and we can never hold
[4:47]islam for the actions of muslims because muslims the followers of any
[4:51]faith don't always necessarily act based on the religion their actions don't
[4:56]necessarily reflect the religion there are many other factors that contribute to
[5:02]the actions of these people there may be cultural aspects social aspects
[5:07]political aspects so just because the muslims did something even if they
[5:11]claim this is their religion i cannot hold the entire faith responsible
[5:16]for the act of the muslims themselves so we have to always
[5:19]make this clear distinction there is islam and there are muslims islam
[5:24]is a religion of peace of love and mercy muslims they may
[5:28]be different and unfortunately many muslims they're very far from the quran
[5:32]they're very far from the teachings of islam so this is number
[5:35]one we have to always remind them we have to make a
[5:38]clear distinction between islam and muslims and number two the second important
[5:43]point is that today how many muslims do you have 1,500,000,000 muslims
[5:49]and the extremists these terrorists they don't even make up one out
[5:52]of a million of the muslims 99.999% of muslims in the world
[5:58]today are peaceful people they're loving people they're merciful they condemn these
[6:02]acts of terrorism so how can i hold all the muslims responsible
[6:06]for the acts of a certain individuals can i hold the entire
[6:11]faith of christianity responsible for the actions of a few christians that
[6:14]carry out some crimes in the name of christianity like you have
[6:17]the crusades where they used to kill in the name of christ
[6:20]i can't say christianity is evil likewise you have buddhists you have
[6:24]buddhists that are killing muslims every day this is happening for the
[6:27]last few years in myanmar and in burma can i say that
[6:31]buddhism as a whole is an evil religion no there's buddhism and
[6:35]there's followers of that religion and not necessarily the followers reflect the
[6:39]teachings of that religion and even if they claim they're a minority
[6:43]i can't hold everyone responsible for that fact so since we have
[6:48]to make a clear distinction between the faith and the followers of
[6:51]the faith we cannot judge the faith based on what the followers
[6:54]do this is common sense if i want to be fair then
[6:59]i have to judge islam not based on what muslims do but
[7:03]based on the teachings of islam if i want to correctly understand
[7:08]islam i have to look at the scriptures of islam i have
[7:11]to look at the teachings of islam not what muslims do because
[7:13]muslims many times they're as far as possible from their teaching they
[7:18]do exactly the opposites of what the quran and the traditions of
[7:21]our prophet and imam say so if i want to be fair
[7:24]i have to go back to the traditions and i have to
[7:26]go back to the scriptures and i have to go back to
[7:29]the teachings of the religion of islam what did islam say about
[7:33]this only then i can judge islam and say islam is violent
[7:36]islam is peaceful or else this is an unfair way i look
[7:40]at muslims are violent i say islam is violent no go back
[7:42]to the teachings themselves go back to the to the to the
[7:46]holy prophet and his legacy and the imams of ahab al bayt
[7:49]who are the guardians and patrons of this faith and look at
[7:52]their life and their history only then you can label islam as
[7:55]being either violent or being peaceful and that's why tonight brothers and
[8:00]sisters i wanna go over this point the topic of mercy in
[8:03]islam and how is it that we can show and prove to
[8:06]the non muslims that islam is indeed the religion of mercy islam
[8:11]is indeed a peaceful religion and we tell them by showing them
[8:15]we convince them by showing them the scriptures the quran and the
[8:19]ahadith how much stress is placed upon mercy and especially in this
[8:24]time especially for us in the west brothers and sisters with the
[8:27]rise of islamophobia and in the aftermath of the paris attacks where
[8:31]these people these so called muslims they carried out those acts of
[8:35]terrorism in the name of islam we have to be able to
[8:38]prove and show them that look this is not islam and the
[8:41]proof is look the teachings of islam is exactly the opposite of
[8:44]what these people are doing so never hold islam responsible for this
[8:48]so tonight and tomorrow insha'allah i will go over this this topic
[8:52]the topic of mercy in islam so we begin with the first
[8:57]point like we mentioned many people they accuse the god of islam
[9:02]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala as being a god of vengeance he's a
[9:07]god of vengeance hatred he doesn't want anyone to go to heaven
[9:11]he tried his best so that as much people as possible can
[9:14]enter the fires of hell many people they say this the god
[9:17]of islam is not the god of mercy yes the god of
[9:20]christianity is presented in such a lovely way jesus is the man
[9:24]of love he loves all of you he loves his enemies he's
[9:27]this peace and mercy but islam know that the god of islam
[9:31]is the god of violence now is this true or not we
[9:34]have to come back to god's book the holy quran and see
[9:37]what the quran says about allah and what the ahadith tell us
[9:40]about allah subhanahu wa ta'ala this is what we have to tell
[9:42]non muslims brothers and sisters so number one we come to the
[9:46]quran what does allah say about the mercy the mercy of allah
[9:49]the quran says number one allah says that my mercy is so
[9:57]abundant that it can encompass every single thing in existence so basically
[10:02]the mercy of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is unlimited in islam there
[10:07]is no one there is nothing that is beyond the mercy of
[10:11]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala this is the first verse the second verse
[10:14]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says allah he tells us in the quran
[10:22]why did he create us if someone was to ask allah why
[10:26]did you create us humanity what was the point what was your
[10:29]goal you allah that you created the holy quran says that allah
[10:34]created us to what to show us mercy to have mercy upon
[10:39]us he created us to show us mercy to forgive us that's
[10:45]why allah created us not to punish us and not to hurt
[10:48]us allah did not create me so that i suffer but rather
[10:53]the quran says that god created humanity muslims non muslims everything in
[10:58]existence so that he would show them his mercy this is number
[11:01]two and number three most notably about the quran is every chapter
[11:06]in the holy quran begins with this verse you've all memorized that
[11:11]tell your non muslim friends every chapter in the quran begins with
[11:15]this in the name of god the compassionate the merciful allah has
[11:19]so many names so many qualities but he chose these two the
[11:25]compassionate the merciful every verse why every every chapter every surah because
[11:31]he constantly wants us to remember that this may be the most
[11:34]important trait and quality of our lord it's that he's merciful not
[11:38]that allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will punish us not that allah subhanahu
[11:42]wa ta'ala wants to put us in the fires of heaven no
[11:45]but he's merciful this is how the quran looks at allah is
[11:48]this a god of vengeance when he created us for mercy his
[11:51]mercy is unlimited and that every chapter he reminds us i am
[11:55]the god of mercy i am the god of rahman i am
[11:58]the god of raheem this is the scriptures so this is the
[12:01]quran when we come to the ahadith the traditions of rasulullah and
[12:05]our imams we find the same thing it's narrated that imam zainul
[12:09]abideen our fourth imam during his time there was a man who
[12:14]claimed to be a scholar by the name of al hassan al
[12:16]basri al hassan al basri was heard one day saying a statement
[12:22]and they came and told the imam that al hassan al basri
[12:25]is saying this what did he say he said this what did
[12:38]he say he says i don't wonder and ponder about those that
[12:42]allah will take them to the fires of hell i don't wonder
[12:44]it's so easy to go to the fires of hell it's obvious
[12:47]most people will go to the fires of hell what puzzles me
[12:50]is those people that were able to go to al jannah those
[12:53]people that made it to the heavens they slipped so to him
[12:57]allah is so strict and severe and his mercy is so narrow
[13:01]that if someone will go to jannah on the day of judgment
[13:03]to the heavens he's appalled he's amazed what do these persons do
[13:07]that they deserve jannah so to him the mercy of allah was
[13:10]so limited they told this to imam zainul abideen imam zainul abideen
[13:14]he revived it he said this is wrong he revived the statement
[13:18]he said what did the imam say the imam said i don't
[13:31]wonder about those that will enter heaven it's obvious it's so easy
[13:34]to enter heaven what puzzles me is how will some people enter
[13:38]the fires of hell when allah's mercy is so unlimited what did
[13:42]they do how miserable could they have been that with allah's unlimited
[13:46]mercy they could still not enter the paradise this is how looks
[13:52]at the mercy of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that if someone does
[13:56]not attain the mercy of allah we should ask why what did
[13:59]you do how pathetic are you how evil are you that even
[14:03]allah with his unlimited mercy you were not forgiven the hadith says
[14:08]on the day of judgment allah will forgive and forgive and forgive
[14:11]and forgive until even the satan even shaitan he will begin to
[14:17]have hope that maybe even i will be forgiven by allah that
[14:21]maybe even allah will show me some of his mercy so even
[14:24]the shaitan will begin having hope that maybe i will end up
[14:27]in jannah this is how much allah will show and express his
[14:31]mercy on the day of judgment this is the lord of islam
[14:35]he is the lord of mercy one day rasulullah is walking with
[14:38]his companions they come across a woman who is breastfeeding her child
[14:43]she's a prisoner of war and the prophet asked his companions he
[14:47]tells him he tells them you see this woman would she ever
[14:51]take her child and throw the child in the in the fire
[14:56]they tell her they tell him of course not you rasulullah a
[14:58]sane mother would never willingly do that throw her child in fire
[15:02]the prophet says allah subhanallah the prophet tells them that allah is
[15:13]more loving and merciful to us to his creation to humanity than
[15:17]a mother is towards her child how much does a mother mother
[15:20]love her child her baby it's you know it's unimaginable you cannot
[15:25]measure it the prophet says that allah loves us more so do
[15:29]you think such a lord that loves us more than a mother
[15:32]loving her child he would want to throw us in the fires
[15:34]of hell of course not but however as the imam says imam
[15:38]ali he says in dua kumail allah is just so allah if
[15:43]it wasn't for his justice he would not even have created the
[15:46]fires of hell everyone go to jannah but allah is just it
[15:49]wouldn't be fair to send everyone to jannah because there are so
[15:52]many evil people that have done evil is it just that allah
[15:54]sends for example hitler or saddam to jannah of course not allah
[15:58]is just and that's why allah will punish people not because he
[16:01]wants to allah wants everyone to enter heaven so this is the
[16:05]lord of islam this is what we have to tell non muslims
[16:08]my friends that islam in islam our lord is the lord of
[16:12]mercy he's the lord of love he's the lord of forgiveness and
[16:15]all these verses are speaking about all human beings all humanity not
[16:19]just muslims whether you are non muslim or whether you are muslim
[16:23]all of these verses apply to humanity and to further show you
[16:34]how merciful allah is with us there's a beautiful hadith that shows
[16:38]you how merciful allah is with us and only then you can
[16:42]judge if allah really wants us to enter the fires of hell
[16:46]so many people say oh allah is so strict allah is so
[16:48]cruel he everything is halam halam enter the fires of hell how
[16:51]many people some muslims they think about this listen to this hadith
[16:54]before we begin to accuse allah the hadith of the imam says
[16:58]that when allah created adam prophet adam he created him and then
[17:03]adam he spoke to allah he told him my dear lord you
[17:06]have created me so vulnerable i'm so weak and i am so
[17:12]vulnerable to the tactics of the shaitaan the devil he can easily
[17:15]fool me and then i'll be fooled and i will commit sins
[17:19]and then you will punish me so you allah what did you
[17:22]give me as protection from shaitaan the hadith is so beautiful the
[17:26]hadith says that this is what allah has given us in protection
[17:30]of the shaitan the hadith says if anyone intends on doing a
[17:34]good deed but then he does not do that good deed whether
[17:40]it's because he changes his mind or he's not able to do
[17:43]that good deed there's an obstacle he's not able i say let
[17:46]me pray let me donate let me go and do ziyada let
[17:49]me do an act of kindness but then i change my mind
[17:52]or then i can't i have something and i'm not able to
[17:55]do that the hadith says that allah will give you the reward
[17:58]anyway just for making that good intention you didn't do anything you
[18:03]just made that intention allah will give you the reward what if
[18:06]you intended and you acted upon your intention you did do it
[18:09]you said i will donate and you did donate look at how
[18:12]kind allah is look at how merciful allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is
[18:15]the hadith says allah will multiply the reward times 10 you give
[18:20]$1 you see on the day of judgment in your book of
[18:22]amman your book that has all your deeds you gave $10 you
[18:26]gave only $1 any act that you do good the quran says
[18:30]allah will multiply it by 10 and then the the imam says
[18:34]that sometimes it's more than 10 it could go as high as
[18:37]up to 700 700 you did two rakahs you prayed one salah
[18:42]you see it rain you prayed 700 salahs this is the mercy
[18:45]of allah he doesn't want us to enter the fires of hell
[18:48]he wants to just give out and reward and then the imam
[18:52]the hadith speaks about the sins remember we said if i intend
[18:56]on doing a good deed i don't allah gives me the good
[19:00]deed anyway if i do it times 10 how about sins the
[19:04]imam says if someone intends on committing a sin something that says
[19:08]haram but then he changes his mind for whatever reason not only
[19:14]listen carefully my dear brothers and sisters not only will allah not
[19:19]write the sin for him but allah will write the opposite he
[19:22]will write a good deed for me can you imagine just intend
[19:26]on doing something haram i'm gonna go listen to music i'm gonna
[19:30]go do anything haram but then i changed my mind allah writes
[19:33]me a good deed because i changed my mind and i did
[19:35]not act upon my intention is this a cruel lord is this
[19:38]a lord that wants me to enter the fight of hell what
[19:41]if i did act upon the intention i intended on listening to
[19:44]music and i did listen to music will allah write me that
[19:48]sin the hadith says no not yet if i do the sin
[19:52]allah will not write it for me he will give me a
[19:54]nine hour window grace period the hadith says in this nine hours
[19:59]allah is waiting for me to repent if i felt bad about
[20:03]committing the sin and i repented allah will not even write that
[20:09]sin he won't even write it you see there's a difference my
[20:12]friends writing and then erasing and not writing if you have a
[20:16]blank sheet of paper and then you write on it you erase
[20:19]it there's still gonna be some marks correct allah won't even write
[20:23]it it's as if you never did it but you have to
[20:25]repent within that nine hours but if i didn't repent within those
[20:29]nine hours and i did the haram and i did not repent
[20:33]only after nine hours allah will write that sin for me but
[20:37]even there even after then i should not despair because even after
[20:41]the nine hours allah says in that tradition in that hadith to
[20:44]adam even after the nine hours if you repent i will erase
[20:49]that sin from your book i will forgive you of that sin
[20:52]no matter even if you repent fifty years after the sin i
[20:56]gave an entire lecture in muharram my friends about the about repentance
[21:00]and i mentioned the verse allah says in the holy quran allah
[21:13]says oh my servants who have done so much haram so many
[21:16]sins do not despair of the mercy of allah do not be
[21:19]despondent because allah will forgive you of all your sins even if
[21:23]i did them fifty sixty years ago so the nine hour grace
[21:26]period allah won't write it at all but if he did write
[21:29]it after that i could still repent is this a lord that
[21:32]wants me to enter the fires of hell is this a lord
[21:35]that is cruel is this the god of vengeance as they claim
[21:38]wallahi is the god of mercy he's the god of compassion he
[21:42]is the god of love but unfortunately this image of our lord
[21:48]is only in the books we have failed in portraying this to
[21:51]the non muslims to us sometimes even some of us we don't
[21:53]never heard of this some of us muslims we like this basic
[21:57]education of our faith so this is the image that we have
[22:00]to tell our non muslims and not only my dear brothers and
[22:04]sisters is allah subhanahu wa ta'ala merciful himself but he wants us
[22:09]his creation to be merciful with one another such that the hadith
[22:13]of the prophet says if i do not show mercy with other
[22:22]people if i am not forgiving with other people the hadith says
[22:27]do not expect god to be merciful with you what goes around
[22:30]comes around if you want allah to forgive you of your mistakes
[22:34]and be merciful with you then you in return have to be
[22:38]merciful with other human beings and especially especially in times of anger
[22:44]retribution and when someone wrongs me when someone wrongs me he oppresses
[22:50]me i have the right to retaliate i have the right to
[22:54]you know suggest it but islam says be better than that do
[22:58]not seek justice islam says you can but it's always better to
[23:02]be better than that person he oppresses you you forgive him and
[23:05]that's why the hadith of the prophet says he says do you
[23:12]want me to tell you of the best in the world means
[23:16]morals etiquette manners do you want to be a person that has
[23:19]the highest manners do this they asked him what do we have
[23:22]to do you rasulullah he says and then the first one he
[23:36]says if someone oppresses you you forgive him you'll be better than
[23:40]him if someone does you wrong you do him good if someone
[23:45]denies you when you need him don't deny him when he needs
[23:48]you always be better than other people this is what islam teaches
[23:52]us my friend because it is the religion of mercy allah wants
[23:54]us to be merciful with one with one another it's narrated that
[23:58]one day a man from asham he came to the city of
[24:03]al medina during the time of our second imam imam hassan and
[24:08]the people of shamm most of them they did not love al
[24:11]al bayt because muawiyah he had brainwashed people he had propaganda he
[24:16]would always tell people that al al bayt are evil people so
[24:19]most of the people in al sham they did not love al
[24:22]al bayt so one man from the sham comes to visit al
[24:25]madina he sees imam hassan oh this is imam hassan the imam
[24:29]is always brainwashing us and telling us he's such a bad person
[24:32]so what does he thinks imam hassan is so evil he begins
[24:35]to curse imam hassan he begins to curse him and curse him
[24:39]in the worst way the imam the hadith says all he did
[24:44]is he stayed quiet he let that guy pour his heart out
[24:47]he cursed and cursed and cursed and cursed until he finished once
[24:52]he finished the imam didn't say anything can you imagine he's in
[24:55]my hometown and he's cursing me what would i do many of
[24:59]us we'd go punch him we'd go slap him we'd bring our
[25:01]family members to wage war against that person how dare you you
[25:04]come in my hometown and you curse me for nothing the imam
[25:08]stays quiet after the guy finishes he settles down he tells him
[25:14]the imam smiles the hadith says and then look at what he
[25:17]tells him he tells him my dear brother it appears that you're
[25:20]a stranger here and it appears that you have made a mistake
[25:24]you don't mean me i'm sure you don't mean me the man
[25:27]obviously he meant imam hassan he told him you and he cursed
[25:30]the imam's father imam ali so the imam is just being polite
[25:34]with him he told him i'm sure you got the wrong guy
[25:37]you didn't mean me because you're a stranger so you made a
[25:40]mistake and then the imam told him oh stranger if you are
[25:43]hungry we will feed you if you need money we'll give you
[25:47]money if you need shelter i will give you shelter if you
[25:50]need anything i'll give you can you imagine how that man felt
[25:56]he's so impolite and rude with the imam just cursing cursing cursing
[26:00]the imam is so polite with him so respectful he tells him
[26:03]if you need anything will give you the that this man was
[26:07]so amazed at the high manners of the imam that he began
[26:11]to cry he told the imam allahi before this day you were
[26:15]the worst person in my eyes you and your father but after
[26:19]what i saw from you you're such a noble man i knew
[26:23]now i know that you are a man that is inspired by
[26:26]god now you and your father are the most beloved people in
[26:30]my heart and to my eyes and he changes from being an
[26:34]enemy of ahlul bayt he becomes a follower of ahlul bayt so
[26:39]this is what islam encourages us to do my dear brothers and
[26:42]sisters to always forgive even if i can retaliate islam says no
[26:47]forgive and allah will be forgiving with you as well and we
[26:59]can go on and on speaking about the topic of mercy in
[27:03]islam but i wanna in the remainder remainder of the minutes that
[27:07]we have i wanna speak about specific groups that islam stresses on
[27:13]being merciful with them three groups number one the first group that
[27:17]we have to be very merciful with my friends is our parents
[27:22]the quran highly stresses the fact that we are merciful and kind
[27:28]and respectful with our parents the holy quran speaks about our parents
[27:33]he's the holy quran says the holy quran says allah says that
[27:42]you should not worship any other but god right after that the
[27:45]quran says and you have to be grateful kind with your parents
[27:52]in the next verse what does allah say allah says the next
[28:03]verse says that you have to be so humble and respectful and
[28:07]merciful towards your parents that you have to lower your wings of
[28:10]humility be humble with your parents and be merciful with your parents
[28:16]and then allah says every day all the time do this dua
[28:19]for your parents my dear brothers and sisters every day when you
[28:22]wake up do this short dua for your parents say this say
[28:30]you allah i ask you to be merciful with my parents and
[28:35]forgive them in the same way that they were merciful with me
[28:38]when they brought me up every day say this dua about your
[28:41]parents so it's highly important that we are merciful with our parents
[28:45]even if they are not good parents i have to be better
[28:47]than them i still have to be merciful with them i still
[28:50]have to be grateful and kind to my parents and listen to
[28:54]this hadith my dear brothers and sisters it shows how important our
[28:59]parents are and how much do you need allah gives us the
[29:02]the details of how much mercy we have to show our parents
[29:07]and how important our parents are the hadith of the prophet says
[29:10]it's a very beautiful hadith he says the hadith says that any
[29:28]person any person sitting here looks at his mother or father with
[29:32]love and mercy just look don't do anything just tonight when you
[29:37]go to meet your parents or tomorrow just look at your mother
[29:39]or father with love and mercy the hadith says the reward of
[29:43]that is hajj you will get the reward of going to hajj
[29:47]you know how difficult hajj is you have to spend thousands of
[29:50]dollars go two three weeks so difficult allah gives you the reward
[29:54]of hajj just for looking at your mother or father with love
[29:58]you do see how important our parents are you see how islam
[30:01]wants us to show the mercy within the society allah wants us
[30:05]to grow up with mercy towards my parents so the prophet was
[30:09]asked even if we look at our parents a 100 times a
[30:12]day can we cheat i'll look at my parents 100 times a
[30:15]day i'll get 100 hajj the prophet says even if 100 times
[30:18]and then he says even if 1,000 times you see how easy
[30:21]it to get tawah allah wants to encourage us to be merciful
[30:25]with our parents just look at them with mercy allah will write
[30:28]you hajj now that doesn't mean you you don't have to go
[30:31]to hajj you still have to go to hajj but you will
[30:33]get tawab that is equal to the tawab equal to the reward
[30:37]of hajj just by looking at your parents with mercy so this
[30:42]is the first group our parents we have to be extra merciful
[30:46]with them the second group my friends is our children we have
[30:50]to be merciful with our children the hadith of imam al sadiq
[30:54]says allah the imam says will have mercy and forgive many individuals
[31:07]parents not because of their actions not because they prayed so much
[31:11]not because of their salah and siyam but because of their love
[31:15]towards their children when allah sees a father or mother they love
[31:20]their children so much allah will be more merciful with this father
[31:24]allah wants us to be merciful with our children the hadith of
[31:27]the imam says every time you kiss your child just kiss your
[31:31]child on the cheek allah will write you one reward for it
[31:35]just kiss your child kiss him a 100 times 100 rewards 500
[31:38]times 500 rewards and you see back then back then during the
[31:43]arabs the men they were very cruel they did not express mercy
[31:48]they did not show love because to them it was against their
[31:51]masculinity a man has to be tough you know i can't love
[31:54]and this is for the woman it's not for the man man
[31:56]is masculine so one day rasulullah the hadith says that he in
[32:01]front of the people he kissed one of his grandchildren maybe it
[32:03]was imam hassan maybe it was imam hussein one of those arabs
[32:07]he saw rasulullah and he didn't like them he came and he
[32:10]told you rasulullah you kiss your grandchild told him yes of course
[32:14]he told him i have 10 kids and i have never ever
[32:17]ever kissed any one of them see how cool their hearts were
[32:21]so rasulullah he was very angered by this man he told him
[32:25]if you do not show mercy towards your children you expect allah
[32:27]to be merciful towards you guess them show them that love integrate
[32:31]that love and mercy factor allah wants the entire society and the
[32:36]entire community to be raised with mercy and love this is how
[32:41]allah wants us to show our mercy towards our children this is
[32:46]the second goal and finally my dear brothers and sisters the third
[33:00]group and we will end with this the third group that islam
[33:05]stresses on showing mercy towards and this third group unfortunately we never
[33:10]mention we never read about it we never stress on it many
[33:14]of us are ignorant of it many of us don't take the
[33:18]time to tell non muslims about this aspect of the mercy of
[33:21]islam and that is islam's mercy and love and compassion towards animals
[33:27]you'd be amazed my dear brothers and sisters how many traditions we
[33:31]have teaching us encouraging us to be merciful towards even animals this
[33:37]is the religion of islam it's the religion that tells you you
[33:40]have to be merciful even with animals i'll tell you a few
[33:43]hadith one hadith is narrated from our prophet that says on the
[33:47]day of judgment one woman there's a woman that will be punished
[33:52]in the fires of hell what's her sin do you know what
[33:55]her sin is her sin the hadith says is that she trapped
[33:59]a cat one day she trapped a cat in a cage or
[34:02]in a room until that cat died of hunger she did not
[34:07]allow that cat to eat nor did she no she did not
[34:11]feed the cat nor did she let the cat go free so
[34:13]the cat can find its own food allah says that this person
[34:16]will be punished so even animals brothers and sisters they have rights
[34:20]and we have to be merciful towards them the other hadith says
[34:24]the prophet he narrates a story he tells them there was a
[34:27]man one day that was walking besides a well and he was
[34:30]thirsty so he drank water from that well after he drank from
[34:36]that well he saw a dog a panting dog that was so
[34:41]thirsty he was eating the mud that's how thirsty he was dying
[34:45]of thirst so this man he felt sorry for the dog he
[34:48]said let me give this dog some water he went down the
[34:51]well he took his shoes off he put he poured some water
[34:55]in his shoes and then he placed it in front of the
[34:58]dog and that dog drank water the prophet said this man allah
[35:02]thanked him and allah will reward him a great reward the companions
[35:06]they were shocked because remember back then this is a time where
[35:11]you bury your own daughter are you gonna care about animals when
[35:14]your own daughter is meaningless this was a time where you would
[35:19]kill other people for the smallest piteous reasons so there was absolutely
[35:23]no mercy in these people's lives you know with human beings there
[35:26]was no mercy let alone you know animals so they were amazed
[35:30]they told them you rasulullah is it a good act a good
[35:33]deed will there be a reward for us doing kind acts towards
[35:36]animals rasulullah says yes even animals if you do a good deed
[35:42]a good kind act towards an animal you feed it you give
[35:45]it water you help an animal allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will reward
[35:49]you for this in another tradition the prophet was speaking about when
[35:54]he went to the heavens and what he saw there the hadith
[35:56]says the prophet tells his companions amongst the people i saw in
[36:00]was that man that gave water to the dog allah rewarded him
[36:05]with just because he gave some water to the dog this is
[36:08]the religion of islam my friends it's the religion that says be
[36:12]merciful to cats and dogs and all animals let alone human beings
[36:17]and animals have so many rights in this religion you'd be amazed
[36:20]there's no religion that gives so much rights to animals as islam
[36:25]does and you find just one tradition imam al saddam alaihi salam
[36:29]he says he says an animal that you ride whether it's a
[36:35]camel or a horse or a donkey that animal has seven rights
[36:39]seven rights in islam towards the animal he says number one do
[36:43]not overload the back of the animal don't put too much stuff
[36:46]because you'll you'll hurt the animal number two do not travel far
[36:50]distances beyond the capacity of the animal number three do not treat
[36:55]the back of the animal like a couch you just sit and
[36:58]chat only sit on the animal when you want to travel number
[37:02]four never brand the animal on its face they used to brand
[37:06]the animal so they know this is mine never brand it on
[37:09]its face because this is painful number five if you want to
[37:12]hit the animal to you know tell it to move never hit
[37:15]it on its face hit it somewhere else and number six the
[37:18]imam says anytime you come across water you have to feed the
[37:21]animal from that water and number seven when you arrive from your
[37:25]when you arrive to your final destination feed the animal before you
[37:30]feed your own self this is the religion of islam it's all
[37:33]about love it's all about mercy even towards animals the hadith of
[37:37]our imam imam ali ibn abi talib alaihi salam says this is
[37:52]our imam this is how we evaluate and judge islam based on
[37:56]the words and actions of our imams not on the muslims today
[38:00]the imam says if they would give me the entire world with
[38:03]what it contains so that in return i will disobey allah how
[38:07]kill a human being no he says throw an ant not even
[38:11]kill an ant he says in return i would have to bother
[38:14]an ant i take away its food you see some ants you
[38:17]see they're they're carrying small crumbs of bread if they would tell
[38:22]me we'll give you the entire world just take that piece of
[38:25]crumb from that ant he says wallahi i would not do that
[38:28]because this is a fresh this is against mercy i have to
[38:31]be merciful even with an ant this is the religion of islam
[38:34]you think these extremists and these terrorists that go and they blow
[38:37]themselves up they have read these traditions you think they understand the
[38:40]traditions of islam when islam wants us to be that gentle with
[38:44]an ant with animals how would you expect allah wants us to
[38:48]treat other human beings whether muslim or non muslim the hadith of
[38:51]the imam imam ali alaihi salam he says human beings either they
[38:55]are one of two either a brother in faith or equal in
[38:58]humanity wallahi'l these people don't understand islam they've never they never even
[39:02]took the time to read the quran or read the hadith of
[39:05]the hadoopaid that's why we cannot hold islam responsible for their actions
[39:09]they don't apply the actions they don't apply the teachings of islam
[39:13]this is how gentle islam wants us to be this is the
[39:16]mercy of islam you find it in the teachings but unfortunately we
[39:20]muslims do not follow the teachings of our sacred religion we are
[39:24]as distant as ever other non muslims they follow our religion more
[39:28]than we do and that's why you find islam has such a
[39:31]negative negative sentiments against it negative view against it so many unfavorable
[39:37]unfavorable views against islam especially in the western world because we have
[39:42]failed in implementing these hadith and showing these hadith to the non
[39:47]muslims if allah my friends wants us to be this gentle this
[39:53]kind this compassionate even with animals how would you expect him how
[39:58]would you expect him wanting us to treat his own his own
[40:03]servants how would you expect him wanting us to treat the family
[40:07]of rasulullah if he says do not even hurt an animal by
[40:11]overloading it by traveling to how would allah want us to treat
[40:15]his the family members of the imams of and that's why you
[40:21]find imam zainul abideen he would walk after his father imam hussein
[40:27]was killed he would walk in the city in the streets of
[40:30]the city of al madinah he would come across a butcher and
[40:34]that man is about to kill a sheep before he slaughters the
[40:37]sheep he would ask him oh man oh butcher did you give
[40:40]any water to this sheep the man would tell him of course
[40:43]oh son of rasulullah your grandfather has taught us to show mercy
[40:46]even to animals that we do not slaughter any animal unless we
[40:50]give that animal water the imam used to cry used to turn
[40:53]towards carmela and with those tears he would say my dear father
[40:57]hussein even the sheep before they kill it they give it water
[41:01]they do not allow the sheep to die thirsty but as for
[41:04]you the grandson of rasulullah they denied you water they killed you
[41:09]while you were thirsty tonight is the night of armaeen my dear
[41:15]brothers and sisters forty nights ago imam hussein forty days ago he
[41:20]was killed and after he was killed the second day they took
[41:25]the orphans and the widows with imam zainul al amudin on a
[41:29]long difficult journey they took them to the city of al kufa
[41:33]and then they took them to asha and they humiliated them they
[41:37]beat them they disrespected them but almost forty days after finally they
[41:42]were released from sham to go back to al medina everyone is
[41:46]in the caravan they have a guide imam zainul abideen asayd azainab
[41:50]with all the orphans and the women they are going back to
[41:54]al medina their hometown they reach a point of crossroads the guide
[41:58]tells imam zainul abideen we have reached a point of crossroads if
[42:02]we go this way we go to medina but if we go
[42:05]the other way we go to karbala where do you want to
[42:07]go imam zainul he goes to his aunt zainab he tells her
[42:12]my dear aunt zainab we have reached a point where we could
[42:15]go to medina or karbala where do you want to go she
[42:18]tells him my dear nephew tell the guy to take us to
[42:21]karbala let us go visit our martyred ones in karbala i want
[42:26]to visit hussain my brother for forty days zaynab was far from
[42:30]imam hussain so imam zainul abudin he tells the guy take us
[42:35]to karbala they arrived to karbala now meanwhile there was a companion
[42:41]of rasulullah by the name of jabir ibn abdullah he was a
[42:45]old very old man and he was blind he was not able
[42:49]to fight on the day of ashura because of his health situation
[42:52]so forty days after he decided to visit the grave of hussein
[42:57]and he was the first person that visited the grave of imam
[43:00]hussein you see now the days of arba'i you see millions of
[43:03]people they visit imam hussein's grave the first person to visit the
[43:06]grave of hussein was jabir ibn abdullah he was blind so he
[43:10]had a servant with him by the name of atiyah he arrived
[43:13]to karabbalah and then he told his servant atiyah take my haydid
[43:17]the ghusul in the river of euphrates and then he put on
[43:21]some cologne and then he told the he told the servant atiyah
[43:25]take my hand and i want you to take me to the
[43:28]grave of my imam imam hussain my beloved hussain atiyah took the
[43:33]hands of jabir he went and he put his hand on the
[43:36]grave of imam hussein when jabir touched the grave of imam hussein
[43:40]he began to cry and cry and he yelled out three times
[43:52]he began to speak to the and then he said he he
[44:04]says i why why is it that i am calling you my
[44:06]dear hussein but you do not answer me and then he replied
[44:19]he says and how could you reply my master hussein when they
[44:22]have separate your head when your head is not inside your grave
[44:26]how could you answer me he began speaking to the imam and
[44:30]crying over this grave at that point says the servant he says
[44:35]i saw a caravan it was coming from far so i told
[44:38]jabir he said go and see who it is it may be
[44:40]the troops of the bin ziyad so we have to hide he
[44:43]went he came back he told them he says it's imam zainul
[45:05]abideen the caravan of the family of rasulullah has arrived jabir quickly
[45:10]got up he wants to hug imam zainul abideen he told them
[45:14]i give you my i give you my condolences for what happened
[45:20]and then the imam he began to tell jabir yeah jabir yeah
[45:25]only if you were there to see what they did to us
[45:27]on the day of ashua this is where my father hossein was
[45:31]slaughtered this is where our children were killed this is where the
[45:35]women were taken as prisoners of war and this is where they
[45:40]burned our meanwhile while imam zainul abdi is speaking to jabir the
[45:48]woman they arrive every one of them goes on the grave of
[45:51]the beloved one one to her father's zaynab alaihi salaam was so
[46:11]eager to to visit hussein's grave that they say she threw herself
[46:15]from the camel she threw herself on the grave of hussein they
[46:20]say that she had something under her abaya she took it out
[46:24]all of a sudden they saw it was the head of abba
[46:26]abdullah she began to speak to imam hussein my dear brother hussein
[46:31]i have brought back your head the head of hussein forty days
[46:34]and was on the spear from city to city i have brought
[46:38]to you your and then she began to complain to hussein my
[46:45]dear brother only if you were there to see what they did
[46:48]to us after you went they beat us they disrespected us they
[46:53]burned our tayant yeah hussein before i died you entrusted me with
[46:58]the widows and the orphans i have brought back the trust but
[47:02]forgive me there is one missing and that is your daughter uqayah
[47:06]because i left her in a sham and we buried her in
[47:09]a shayah all of a sudden they see sayyidah zaynab she begins
[47:15]to she begins to look left and right she's looking for something
[47:18]imam zayn al amadin he says i know what she's looking for
[47:21]she's looking for the grave of her brother abbas he holds the
[47:25]hands of zainab he takes her to the euphrates river there is
[47:28]the grave of al abbas she goes on the grave of al
[47:32]ambalaya and she begins to complain my dear brother abbas you were
[47:38]the one that took me out of my house from medina and
[47:40]you brought me to gilabella you were the one that protected me
[47:44]throughout the way i ask you now my brother abbas please get
[47:49]up and take me back to
