[2:51]the Savior the Avenger to whom we offer our condolences tonight [Music]

[3:09]my dear brothers and sisters in his last sermon in the holy

[3:24]city of Mecca prior to setting out on his journey towards karbala

[3:32]Imam Al Hussain said the following he said Allah foreign as well

[4:05]as the day of is a very special day and a special

[4:12]evening and it's not just because of the day of Ashura and

[4:22]the tragedies that transpired on that Dreadful day itself was a very

[4:32]very difficult day for the family of rasulullah Imam says in one

[4:40]Hadith Salaam it's the day that The Siege around the camp of

[4:58]Imam al-hussein was completed the tents of the family of the holy

[5:01]prophet we're now completely isolated and sealed off no one was able

[5:13]to come from outside and join the camp of Abraham anymore the

[5:20]Imam then says that it was on the day of the troops

[5:31]coming from sham not just those that had come from kufa but

[5:38]those who had been dispatched from the capital of yazid and Allah

[5:46]joined the troopsad not only that but their numbers were in the

[6:01]thousands so much so that the Imam says foreign because they looked

[6:19]at the multitudes of their troops they looked at the size of

[6:22]their Force Hussain and that's when they realized that Imam al-hussein's Camp

[6:31]was too weak to confront this monstrous Force and they became certain

[6:41]that no one was going to come from Iraq meaning from kufa

[6:45]to join Imam al-hussein anymore so it was a very very difficult

[6:52]day although on the other hand it was on this night that

[7:01]the children and women of Abu Abdullah were able to rest one

[7:07]last time to rest in peace knowing that Imam al-hussein was still

[7:12]alive knowing that was still defending the can knowing that Akbar was

[7:23]still safe and sound and so they were able to rest of

[7:33]course not lady zainab because she had conversations which meant that zainab

[7:43]had to protect the women and the children just as had to

[7:50]do that so it was a very difficult time for the family

[7:54]of the holy prophet but that's not the only reason that this

[8:01]evening is special it's also because we find ourselves each of us

[8:07]here far from the events of Ashura in the year 61 after

[8:16]the hijrah of the holy prophet we all find ourselves at a

[8:19]Crossroads we have to make a choice my dear brothers and sisters

[8:25]we have to decide whether we wish to embark on the journey

[8:34]with Abba Abdullah Hussain as our leader as our master or not

[8:39]when the Imam made that declaration in Mecca he's also addressing us

[8:45]he says the Imam stipulates two conditions he says whoever is willing

[9:03]to give the blood of his heart in our way is that

[9:08]clot of blood that you find inside the heart after it's exhausted

[9:14]all of its content and blood when the blood comes out there's

[9:20]a tiny amount of blood that's left over in the heart that

[9:26]is what Arabs refer to as mujah which is the blood of

[9:44]his heart so that he would guide the slaves of Allah from

[9:52]deviation from confusion and so the Imam says that you have to

[9:57]have two conditions if you're going to join me number one you're

[10:04]willing to give everything in the way of the Imam and number

[10:10]two and you have to be in a state where you are

[10:16]ready to meet Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala at a moment's notice if

[10:22]you were told that you are going to die right now would

[10:29]I be ready or would I say Robert your own would I

[10:37]regret my actions over the course of my life would I say

[10:44]I need more time to prepare or am I ready right now

[10:47]the Imam says you have to be ready to meet Allah this

[10:52]my brothers and sisters is perhaps one of the most critical statements

[10:58]of Imam al-hussein that applies to all of us the Imam says

[11:06]You must be ready which is why in the ziara of ability

[11:11]we make the following declaration which is a big deal and when

[11:18]you say it you have to mean it we say Allah my

[11:28]support for you my help is ready it's not going to be

[11:34]ready you know how when some people when you tell them why

[11:39]don't you do this why don't you do that this is obligatory

[11:40]this is Haram and often one of the things that you hear

[11:44]is I'm not there yet I'm just not ready for this which

[11:50]is fine if you're actually making steps in that direction if you're

[11:55]actively trying to improve yourself by taking tangible steps as opposed to

[12:02]just wishing that one day miraculously I'm going to be able to

[12:08]put on the hijab or one day miraculously I'll start praying properly

[12:11]on time or one day miraculously I'll somehow be teleported to go

[12:16]and perform my obligatory you see there's a difference between these two

[12:22]am I ready or am I actively trying to prepare to provide

[12:29]my support to the Imam when he needs it or am I

[12:36]just slacking off am I just goofing my life away acting as

[12:41]though everything's fine everything's okay not knowing that I'm losing my most

[12:46]precious asset which is my life not only am I losing my

[12:52]most precious asset but I don't know when the moment will come

[12:55]where I have to step up and provide the support that I've

[12:59]promised him by repeatedly saying by repeatedly saying when that moment comes

[13:13]the Hadith says that the return of the Imam are 12 Imam

[13:18]the awaited savior it happens instantaneously it happens without much warning will

[13:28]I be ready then or no because if I'm not taking active

[13:35]steps to improve myself if I'm not preparing right now when the

[13:38]moment comes it's too late to start the process of self-improvement discipline

[13:45]and being religious and so forth It's Too Late the Quran says

[13:52]as much in fact that when that moment comes if you were

[13:57]not a Believer to begin with if you were not someone who

[14:02]was in anticipation of the Imam it's useless had I not prepared

[14:13]for that moment it won't be sufficient for me to say you

[14:18]know what I choose to join the Imam because it's one of

[14:21]those moments and I've used this example before you don't have time

[14:27]to make a decision it's like when you're in the middle of

[14:30]the road and suddenly you see a fast vehicle approaching in your

[14:37]direction at that moment you can't say well now I'm gonna train

[14:39]so that I could Sprint away fast enough to be saved from

[14:45]imminent death you can't do that you can't even make a conscious

[14:52]decision you don't have time to think about it you can't stand

[14:55]there and say well let me weigh up the pros and cons

[14:59]whether I should proceed forward or run backwards or stay where I

[15:01]am and just hope for the best you don't even have time

[15:07]to make a decision your actions have to have led you to

[15:12]a point where you make the right decision at that exact moment

[15:16]I hope that makes sense many of the companions of Imam Hussain

[15:24]didn't have much time to think about it they just happen to

[15:31]be there obviously in accordance with a very highly calculated divine plan

[15:38]and the decision to join Imam al-hussein was based on a lifetime

[15:46]a lifetime of hard work and so we have to decide tonight

[15:54]are we going to be one of those people who says like

[15:59]Abdullah and Omar who encountered Imam al-hussein and the Imam specifically invited

[16:06]him how pathetic does one have to be to have the proof

[16:12]of Allah the grandson of rasulullah come to him personally and invite

[16:17]him and say come join us and so he said to the

[16:24]Imam that your flesh is too beautiful I've seen the prophet kiss

[16:29]you from head to toe Allah took his grandson who was only

[16:37]an infant but you could speak the prophet took him and he

[16:42]began to kiss him from head to toe leaving no place that

[16:46]was not touched by the Blessed lips of rasulullah then the prophet

[16:53]burst into tears imagine you're a child and you see your father

[16:57]crying you see your mother crying this is rasulullah the imam's grandfather

[17:03]he began crying excessively and so Imam Hussain this child he says

[17:09]to him why did you kiss me the way you did and

[17:14]why are you crying right now the prophet said to him I

[17:21]am kissing the landing spots of those swords that will strike you

[17:29]one day in other words the entire body of ABA Abdullah we

[17:41]need to get ready brothers and sisters we have so many Hadith

[17:46]and Normani was a student of he compiled a book called the

[17:56]book of occultation in it he describes the events that will lead

[18:03]to the reappearance of the Imam and he'll talk about the calamities

[18:09]that the followers of the Albert will face and we talked about

[18:12]this last night which will only intensify as they get closer and

[18:20]closer to the time of the reappearance he talks about all those

[18:24]that he mentions some truly horrific scenes that we now find ourselves

[18:30]right in the midst of those descriptions he says for instance having

[18:38]said the following the Imam says that your Imam will disappear people

[18:48]will no longer have access to him they won't be able to

[18:54]see him so much so that people will begin to doubt he

[18:58]ever existed then they'll say even if he was born even if

[19:08]he did live for a period of time he must have died

[19:10]after all this time he can't still be alive he died God

[19:17]knows which path he took and what happened to him in his

[19:23]loneliness this is in one Hadith in another Hadith the Imam says

[19:31]you will be faced with what could only be the worst Affliction

[19:38]which is confusion not knowing what's right from what's wrong foreign [Music]

[19:52]you will end up without a banner that you can see without

[19:59]an Imam who is your guide you'll end up in a state

[20:07]of utter bewilderment and confusion so we know these tests and these

[20:13]trials are happening they're happening right now and what's amazing and absolutely

[20:21]important for us to talk about especially on such a night is

[20:29]the connection between Imam al-hussein's martyrdom and the 12th Imam there's a

[20:33]reason that when the Imam returns his chant and His companion slogan

[20:42]will be what yeah till Hussein foreign that connection is very pronounced

[21:04]so much so that I'll share a Hadith with you that opens

[21:12]up Horizons of knowledge who was one of the great Giants of

[21:22]our scholarly Heritage a scholar of the highest caliber who moved from

[21:30]Southern Lebanon to safavid Iran settled in the holy city of meshad

[21:37]and he was contemporaneous with their times overlapped he wrote a book

[21:46]called one of his most famous works which is still one of

[21:52]the bedrocks of Islamic jurisprudence in the hausa to this day almost

[21:56]300 years later those of you who are familiar with the texts

[22:02]that are taught in the hausa know that was Shia is one

[22:07]of the most important collections of Hadith that pertains to matters of

[22:11]jurisprudence he wrote a book about the imams of the bait proving

[22:18]their Divine leadership called proving the Guides of Allah by using textual

[22:27]and scriptural references as well as their miracles in this book he

[22:36]mentions a Hadith which attempts to respond to a question that some

[22:41]people have and again connecting back to our discussion last night why

[22:47]all of these trials why all of these tragedies that befell the

[22:52]family of rasulullah to the extent that the holy prophet gets poisoned

[22:57]to death a Christian man writes about her and says her life

[23:05]is not counted by years or months or days her life is

[23:12]counted by the tragedies that she faced foreign how do you make

[23:24]sense of all of this the constant pain and tragedies that the

[23:31]imams faced why did all that happen responds to this question listen

[23:37]very carefully he says this expression on its own is a Muslim

[23:52]that requires Tears of Blood to be shed he says put their

[24:03]sword inserted their sword into us for two reasons the first he

[24:09]says is because they knew that they had no rightful Authority they

[24:15]knew that their governments were illegitimate and when someone is a thief

[24:20]they will strike preemptively they will try to hurt the victims if

[24:27]they feel that the victim is going to come back and demand

[24:30]their right they knew full well what they were doing says in

[24:37]the famous the second sermon the Imam says Allah by God I

[24:50]swear in Allah that the Tyrant the first Gypsy when he stole

[25:05]my Guardianship and my position of authority he knew that my position

[25:18]vis-a-vis Divine Authority and government was the position of the axis that

[25:23]holds the two Mills you know when you try to turn grain

[25:27]into flower you put it between these two discs you can't keep

[25:33]the discs together spinning around properly if you don't have an axis

[25:38]keeping them he says that he knew that my position regarding was

[25:44]the position of that axis that kept the mill together foreign even

[26:11]though no one could be compared with me I was like a

[26:16]mountain no bird could reach the summit and floods would be pouring

[26:21]down from me floods of knowledge and guidance so they knew and

[26:27]because of that they put their swords into us and they killed

[26:34]us so as to preempt any attempt to take back what belonged

[26:39]to the bait reason number one reason number two he says because

[26:44]they had read in books manuscripts and they had researched this topic

[26:49]enough to recognize that the one who was given a Divine mandate

[26:59]to destroy the tyrants rule was the Maddie and so they killed

[27:03]us in order to eradicate the progeny of rasulullah and it wouldn't

[27:09]come to the mati in other words they killed rasulullah then they

[27:18]killed Fatima to Zahara and they killed more sin and they killed

[27:22]Imam al-hasan and Imam al-hussein in order to prevent the coming of

[27:28]the Mahdi that was the whole objective they killed Abdullah and their

[27:37]slogan was spare no member of this family that's what they were

[27:47]saying on the day of Ashura why because they wanted to ensure

[27:50]that the Mahdi does not come they wanted to sever the lineage

[27:57]of rasulullah which is why the Imam said to um headed towards

[28:04]the battlefield he said to him you've severed my lineage may Allah

[28:16]sever your lineage that was the whole point and so Lely it

[28:23]makes sense that the Imam of the time says addressing [Music] uh

[28:50]foreign [Music] so that I could give you my support so that

[29:22]I could defend you so that I could show enmity to those

[29:26]who showed enmity to you now that this is what God decreed

[29:34]for me then I will mourn for you every morning and every

[29:37]night and I will shed tears of blood out of my eyes

[29:43]until I die from my grief for you no surprise then because

[29:51]Imam al-mahdi knows that his grandfather Abba Abdullah was killed to prevent

[29:57]the media from coming was killed because they thought he was going

[30:02]to be the Imam after Abdullah that's why they killed him the

[30:08]way they did they said to themselves this is going to be

[30:14]the successor of Imam al-hussein make sure he doesn't survive knows this

[30:25]happened because of Imam al-mahdi and for his sake and because of

[30:32]that my brothers and sisters Ashura has to take a meadowy color

[30:38]in fact every single one of our occasions and commemorations has to

[30:46]take the color of Imam al-mahdi it's not just the 15th of

[30:49]Shaban it's not just every Friday every single one of our occasions

[30:53]has to Center around the Mahdi may Allah hasten his reappearance when

[31:02]we do that suddenly Our Lives begin to change when Imam almadi

[31:11]becomes the focal point of Our Lives Everything Changes when we sit

[31:17]down and talk amongst friends mention something about Imam al-mahdi remember his

[31:25]loneliness remember the fact that he's a stranger remember the fact that

[31:30]he is a like a refugee who roams around the Earth without

[31:34]a helper without a supporter tonight brothers and sisters we need to

[31:38]pray for the Imam of the time tonight if Imam al-mahdi spends

[31:46]every morning and every evening crying from imagine what state he is

[31:53]in right now on the eve of Ashura if he cries Tears

[31:57]of Blood every single day of the year what happens to him

[32:03]tonight that's why Scholars have told us that on the eve of

[32:07]Ashura put aside some charity some sadaqah for the well-being of Imam

[32:12]because tonight his condition is truly painful truly difficult Allah every single

[32:25]moment in our lives has to be centered around the Imam of

[32:31]the time didn't we say didn't we say what does my Imam

[32:39]want from me when you wish to choose a career path ask

[32:42]yourself is this what my Imam wants from me or no when

[32:47]you wish to get married is this person the one that my

[32:51]Imam wants me to get married or know suddenly the decision becomes

[32:55]an easy one it becomes a lot easier to take steps in

[32:59]your life you won't be confused what would my Imam want from

[33:04]me pray for him remember him you've probably heard the Hadith when

[33:11]Imam says to one of his companions he says to him that

[33:18]Allah condemned bani Israel to 400 years of remaining in a desolate

[33:29]land in a desert being lost and confused 400 years it was

[33:34]God's decree for them but after 230 years many Israel had had

[33:41]enough and so at some point perhaps there was a tyrant perhaps

[33:51]they recognized just how lost they are and they began to plead

[33:55]with Allah they recognized that their problems couldn't be solved with the

[34:02]rise or fall of this political party this government this group that

[34:08]group they gave up on everything they severed all hope in everyone

[34:13]except in Allah and so they began to plead and beg and

[34:20]cry and pray so Allah chose to lessen the time to reduce

[34:30]the time of their trial there were supposed to be tried for

[34:35]400 years reduced a hundred took away 170 years from the original

[34:43]sentence and within 40 days of pleading and praying Allah sent Musa

[34:50]to help them then the Imam says he says and you're exactly

[34:57]the same this is great news brothers and sisters it means that

[35:02]we have the power with the right mindset with the right actions

[35:06]we have the power to bring about the return of the Imam

[35:10]how the Imam is giving you the prescription he says you're exactly

[35:17]the same if you also prayed if you also prepared if you

[35:22]also anticipated the return of the Imam Israel did Allah will bring

[35:29]about the return much quicker otherwise you'll have to serve the rest

[35:36]of your sentence whatever that may be a thousand years Ten Thousand

[35:43]Years God knows tonight is a time for us to pray for

[35:50]the return of the Imam it's all about him Hussain but he

[35:53]is the one we offer condolences to and he's the one that

[36:01]we have anchored our boats to in Ashura in two different locations

[36:05]we pray for the return of the Imam and say that we

[36:07]wish to seek your revenge and restore Justice with the Imam of

[36:21]the time so it's highly connected the Hadith says and I won't

[36:30]take too much of your time because it's a night for crying

[36:33]and lamenting he says that is he addresses His companion and he

[36:47]says to him the occultation will last a long time then he

[36:58]says [Music] foreign [Music] we are the people of his time the

[37:17]time of the occultation are those who believe in his Divine guardianship

[37:25]firm belief not just some abstract notion which is what most of

[37:34]us have we have an Imam he's hidden he is an occultation

[37:36]he's going to return someday no no actually believe in him do

[37:40]you know how many groups there are out there who are trying

[37:46]to snatch away your belief in the 12th Imam somebody said that

[37:51]my son read a novel and became an atheist a novel someone

[37:56]said the other day they sent me a message these aren't just

[38:01]fiction he sent me a message saying say it my son started

[38:08]watching a guy on YouTube and he abandoned Islam and then he

[38:14]said to me he's following some other religion I'm not sure what

[38:17]foreign this is how wretched this time is one YouTube video away

[38:33]from disbelief one novel away from disbelief we sit down and watch

[38:39]300 episodes of some drama that's been created which teaches nothing but

[38:48]immorality nothing who cares about history when it deals with who became

[38:54]king and who became ruler and who lost in what war if

[38:57]it's not centered around we pay money and support a platform that

[39:10]streams content which glad glad is an organization that advocates for lgbtq

[39:17]in New York glad has issued a statement saying that this platform

[39:23]has taken impressive strides in representation for us almost every series and

[39:28]every movie contains something that's poisonous to our minds and we pay

[39:33]to watch it a sign of the time this is where we

[39:39]are this is how pathetic our circumstances are how dangerous our circumstances

[39:46]are what do we do in this day and age that's why

[39:53]the Imam says you have to believe in his Imam and believing

[39:58]in his imama isn't just about hearing a modulus somebody says that's

[40:05]it no why do you believe in him where is the evidence

[40:10]in the Quran where is the evidence in the Hadith of rasulullah

[40:13]where are The Logical proves that we have provided our Scholars have

[40:19]provided may Allah bless our Scholars who for the last thousands of

[40:27]years thousand years have been working tirelessly to teach and write books

[40:34]and compile hadiths so as to prevent these diseases from reaching us

[40:37]but we don't care yeah those books are out there somewhere in

[40:42]the cloud but where am I why are we not accessing these

[40:45]why aren't we learning about them one Hadith says that when the

[40:55]Imam goes into occultation you will face turbulence like a ship in

[41:02]Wild Waters and just like the ship capsizes and drowns your ship

[41:12]will also capsize and you'll have to know how to swim prior

[41:18]to capsizing you can't just learn on the job you can't just

[41:23]learn how to swim and hope for the best when the ship

[41:27]capsizes just give you an address for those of you who are

[41:39]wondering a book by the late Granite Allah Sheikh Safi gulpaigani it's

[41:49]a book that he actually recited a series of 30 lectures over

[41:57]the holy month of Ramadan about the 12th Imam those lectures were

[42:01]then transcribed and condensed into book form I believe the English version

[42:05]is either in two or three volumes and it's available I've been

[42:10]telling brothers and sisters throughout the world have a program where a

[42:15]group of Youth get together every week and simply read this text

[42:17]just read it you need to have solid belief to constitute number

[42:27]one number two and those who are waiting for him to return

[42:35]these are the ones about whom the Imam says the people of

[42:45]his occultation who satisfy these two conditions are better than the people

[42:49]of any other time that preceded us and any other time that

[42:55]will come after us in other words we will be better we

[42:57]can be better than those who met rasulullah and if we do

[43:11]a nutshell in a nutshell they ask the Imam what is taqwa

[43:16]what is piety the Imam says piety and it is when Allah

[43:27]finds you where he has commanded you to be and doesn't find

[43:34]you where he has forbidden you from being there that's takwa in

[43:39]a nutshell in other words the places we choose to go to

[43:44]we have to ask ourselves does Allah want me to be here

[43:48]has he commanded me to be here Allah commanded us to be

[43:54]under the dome of Allah as much as you can it's this

[43:57]connection that we have to keep with the Imam in these turbulent

[44:01]times and when you go ziara make sure your ziara is different

[44:08]from others Christians Jews go to the ziar of Imam Al Hussain

[44:15]I'm not even exaggerating a couple of years ago there was an

[44:21]article on Fox News I saw the article myself a member of

[44:24]the British House of Lords who is Jewish went to ziara not

[44:28]only did he go to ziara he walked from najaf to karmala

[44:30]then he went back to najaf and took a film crew with

[44:35]him and walked back to karbala he's like this is the road

[44:38]to Paradise I don't know what this is but it's the closest

[44:41]thing to World Peace so Christians go Jews go others go should

[44:49]there be a difference between my ziara and their ziara the difference

[44:54]is the Matthew the difference is now that I've chosen to die

[44:59]my faith to color my faith with the color of Imam Zaman

[45:04]when I go to ziara I don't go there and fancy hotels

[45:13]go swimming and smoking shisha and enjoying myself eating all kinds of

[45:17]foods and then yeah on the side attend the lecture by some

[45:21]deviant who has nothing to do with Imam al-hussein my ziara becomes

[45:25]my ziara is one where I remind myself that the shrine of

[45:34]ABBA Abdullah Hussain is occupied by the most sacred angels of Allah

[45:42]by Celestial beings becomes different my relationship with my spouse becomes different

[45:53]because again I ask myself what Imam Zaman want me to act

[45:59]in my marriage in this way or no how would he want

[46:03]me to act what would he want me to do my relationship

[46:07]with my children my relationship with other people everything becomes different which

[46:14]is why in the ziara of Imam Zaman we address him as

[46:18]such we say assalamu alaikum you are the Ark of Salvation you

[46:28]are the spring of life suddenly everything comes back to life you

[46:33]see spring and you see flowers and you see the fragrance of

[46:41]Imam Zaman in your life you see the effect of believing in

[46:44]him and devoting yourself to him in every single aspect of your

[46:51]life you see blessings Imam Assad said to a group of his

[46:54]companions he said he pointed to his son Imam he said you

[47:03]are the boats and this is the captain of the boat if

[47:08]the Imam is the captain of my boat I have nothing to

[47:13]worry about do I if I'm on board a ship where I

[47:20]know that the ship is being steered by God's proof which is

[47:23]why we recite I believe it's the Dua of Tuesdays home make

[47:35]me one of those under your guardianship because those under your guardianship

[47:40]have nothing to fear they have nothing to be stressed about they

[47:46]have nothing to be sad about because they know that whatever turbulence

[47:52]comes their way in this ocean that they're in that they're still

[47:59]safe which is why in that Hadith that I mentioned Imam says

[48:03]to His companion that the people of his time who believe in

[48:07]him who wait for him who prepare for him those people are

[48:13]the best people may Allah make us among them Allah everyone with

[48:54]your hearts turn to karbala and send your salutations upon the Martyr

[49:00]the lonely stranger foreign [Music] [Music] but perhaps the most painful one

[49:48]was came to his women and children foreign [Music] [Music] was looking

[50:25]in two directions one towards the enemy and the other towards his

[50:32]family even when the Imam fell to the ground Imam is a

[50:36]man says yeah so it must have been unspeakably painful for him

[50:52]to come and bid them farewell yeah [Laughter] Tonight is the Night

[51:19]foreign they all came out crying beating their hands they surrounded so

[51:45]kaina said to her father take us back to the shrine of

[51:58]our grandfather foreign [Music] get ready for affliction be patient that's all

[52:22]I can tell you and Allah [Music] you should know that it's

[52:40]going to be very difficult but Allah will protect you from these

[52:45]animals [Music] then the second time when the Imam he headed towards

[53:02]the battle and came back one last time the Imam can't let

[53:09]go of his children foreign has to say his goodbyes one more

[53:21]time but we know there is another reason the Imam still has
