[0:03][Music] pick up the wrong water thank is this good or lower
[0:16]a little biter okay respected brothers and sisters may Allah subhana wa
[0:49]ta'ala accept your prayers and your fasts and your duas yesterday I
[0:54]mentioned a story about my uh teacher and how he was humble
[1:00]and he how he instead of sitting down with the very well-known
[1:08]Scholars and the principles and people in charge he asked me where
[1:12]I'm sitting and he came and he sat where I was sitting
[1:16]and we are very simple students so I was at a family
[1:20]gathering and the story you know like Chinese Whispers it gets you
[1:26]know translated into different meanings and one of the family members said
[1:30]yeah I like that story yesterday where your scholar where your teacher
[1:34]instead of sitting with those Posh guys he came and sat down
[1:36]with the peasants and I thought to I'm like okay that wasn't
[1:40]the point I'm not a peasant and nothing wrong with peasants but
[1:42]that wasn't what I was trying to relay there but stories sometimes
[1:49]they get changed in that way but the idea was that yes
[1:51]he was a Hess scholar he sat down with with the peasants
[1:55]that's what he did and inshallah we can learn from that humility
[1:59]thep topic today is related to well I had I had um
[2:07]these uh titles that I put forth from fragmentation to wholeness Islamic
[2:12]spirituality as a response to Mo post-modern disconnection that was the original
[2:17]title but I was asked by some to um put a different
[2:20]title for my lectures just to kind of simplify it and I
[2:24]thought I'd share with you the original title because changing the way
[2:29]we speak is also very important it's true that nowadays A lot
[2:34]of people prefer simple language but the problem with that is the
[2:37]more we simplify language the more we are not able to think
[2:43]deeply anymore we lose the ability to think deeply I don't know
[2:46]if you guys read the book and of Green Gables does anyone
[2:49]know that book they made a series of it but they there
[2:54]was an old movie I think in the 80s or 70s so
[2:58]it's a Canadian author who wrote about this and she was a
[3:02]girl that was adopted by a family who wanted to adopt a
[3:06]boy but she was in an orphanage and she was extra smart
[3:09]so the people at the orphanage they couldn't handle her so they
[3:16]sent her over by mistake for that family to adopt that family
[3:18]it was an old man and woman and they were looking for
[3:22]a boy to take care of them and help him in their
[3:24]farm so the girl gets sent by mistake and they take her
[3:29]in and they say that we want to send you back we
[3:31]were looking for a boy you're not going to be a so
[3:35]she started crying she felt she was rejected but she was a
[3:40]very very intelligent girl she was very very strong with her words
[3:44]and language she was very creative she had a creative mind so
[3:47]one of the things that she says and I remember this she
[3:51]said that you know people would criticize her for having big words
[3:54]and she said you know if you have big Ideas you have
[3:59]to have big words to describe it right you can't use simple
[4:02]words to describe something so beautiful like to us we've dumbed down
[4:08]the language so much that there's no more Beauty in the language
[4:12]that we speak everything we want to describe it's described in the
[4:18]same exact way we have one word to describe something like amazing
[4:23]everything is amazing the car is amazing the house is amazing the
[4:27]food's amazing the movie is amazing my friend's amazing everything's amazing but
[4:34]there are so many different words that you can use to describe
[4:39]how that thing is amazing but because our language has become so
[4:43]weak our imagination has weakened as well so learning how to speak
[4:49]of course you don't want to be that person where you start
[4:51]looking up synonyms and find the most archaic ancient word and start
[4:55]using it with your friends no that's not the point I think
[4:59]a lot of people can understand different words that do describe things
[5:03]differently but make sure that when you are speaking like I was
[5:06]saying on the first night that you have to try to speak
[5:10]artistically if you express yourself and you have a beautiful idea learn
[5:17]how to describe it in a beautiful way now of course it
[5:19]helps if the other person is listening to you cuz a lot
[5:24]of times we're so distracted we don't pay attention to those other
[5:27]people who are speaking to us we don't give them enough attention
[5:30]time because our attention span is completely messed up 20 minutes lecture
[5:37]maybe 15 maximum where you can kind of have the attention of
[5:40]individuals more than that people start flying around their brains are roaming
[5:45]everywhere it's because of the lifestyle that we have and this is
[5:51]part of the suffering that we have as human beings we don't
[5:53]have the ability to focus anymore and this is why in Islam
[5:59]it's very important for us and emphasis this is what's put on
[6:02]meditation and thinking and contemplating because Allah subhana wa tala knows that
[6:07]for you to be a happy person and a comfortable person in
[6:12]your life you need to have calmness and a lot of our
[6:16]suffering is because we're unable to calm down we have too many
[6:19]thoughts in our mind and the pleasure that we have in this
[6:23]world even the worldly pleasures like imagine you're eating a meal you
[6:29]go with your friends to one of these resturants over here you
[6:32]order food and you're eating it even that when you're eating the
[6:35]food how much pleasure are you getting out of the food like
[6:40]let's say there's 100% pleasure that you can derive from eating this
[6:43]food right and you're eating the meal how much are you really
[6:46]getting out of it a lot of times we swallow and we
[6:50]finish our food and we have no idea how we started and
[6:54]how we ended either we're eating and we're on our phones or
[6:56]we're talking or we're thinking about a million other things right so
[7:00]even the duniawi pleasures that we have we're distracted from them how
[7:04]do you enjoy something does anyone know do you know when you
[7:10]go to sleep and you see a dream a pleasurable dream like
[7:13]imagine you're eating a pizza in your in your dream that pizza
[7:17]is much more tastier than the pizza you eat in real life
[7:23]and I'm giving Pizza as an example just like food pleasure it
[7:26]can be any type of pleasure that you think of and the
[7:31]dream is always Amplified right you wake up in the morning and
[7:34]you say you want to live that dream in your life and
[7:39]you notice that you can't get the same amount of pleasure from
[7:41]it why is it so well in the dream you're not distracted
[7:46]by so many different things you're 100% focused on that one thing
[7:50]that you're doing and I'm talking about the distraction of the senses
[7:55]in this life in this world if you dedicate 100% Focus to
[8:01]what you're doing you're going to derive full pleasure out of that
[8:04]and I'm not just talking about spiritual pleasure I'm talking about physical
[8:07]pleasure too when you're talking to someone when you're eating if you're
[8:12]thinking about a million other things then even that pleasure you get
[8:15]from the food or from talking to your friends or being with
[8:19]your wife or your husband you're not going to feel that pleasure
[8:21]to the fullest you're going to feel like it's only 5% or
[8:27]10% pleasure that you're deriving out of it and then the husband
[8:30]complains where the wife complains that I'm not feeling this connection well
[8:36]it's because when you're with each other you're not focusing your mind
[8:40]is somewhere else you're thinking about other things and when you're doing
[8:43]that you cannot derive the pleasure from the thing that you're doing
[8:47]so focus is very important to elevate the quality of your life
[8:52]if you want to jump from one thing to another one thing
[8:57]to another one thing to another you're never going to derive correct
[9:00]pleasure or full pleasure from the things that you're doing so what
[9:04]do you do you get 2% pleasure from this then you have
[9:09]to jump to something else to get 2% pleasure from there and
[9:11]then 5% from there then 7% from there then you find yourself
[9:14]doing a thousand things to satisfy yourself you're spreading your energy and
[9:21]your focus and everything and your time on a thousand things to
[9:27]get pleasure where in reality if you focus all of your attention
[9:30]on one one thing that you're doing even for a short amount
[9:33]of time you get the full pleasure of that thing and then
[9:38]you never feel the need to go after more of it at
[9:40]least for a short period of time but because we don't get
[9:44]the pleasure that we're looking for out of things because we're so
[9:48]scattered in our minds we have to jump from one thing to
[9:50]another to another to another and then we feel We're Never Satisfied
[9:56]no matter how much things we take in no matter how many
[9:58]things we do you get bored of it immediately and then you
[10:02]want to jump to the next activity and a lot of this
[10:08]is because we're not focused we have um a lot of people
[10:10]nowadays ADHD right this is like attention defic uh def disorder right
[10:17]attention deficiency and this is increasing I'm unable to focus jumping from
[10:24]one thing to another so what do we do if you want
[10:29]to live live a life full of pleasure in this and the
[10:34]then you have to do the same thing if you want to
[10:39]derive pleasure from the Salat spiritual pleasure you have to focus you
[10:42]have to teach yourself how to focus if you want to derive
[10:48]worldly pleasure you have to teach yourself how to focus IM Ali
[10:52]tells us that when you're sitting down to eat your food the
[10:58]Angels stop writing you know you have the two angels on your
[11:02]shoulders writing down your good deeds and your bad Deeds when you're
[11:06]eating the Imam says that's one time that you're not taken accountable
[11:10]and that's to encourage us when you're eating your food take your
[11:14]time this is a form of pleasure Allah subhana T is giving
[11:19]you this blessing first of all it's very healthy if you eat
[11:22]slowly you have a burger technically it should take maybe 10 to
[11:30]15 bites right but you sit down with the guys you say
[11:35]and two minutes Burger's gone three four bites and the it's gone
[11:43]and then they go on to the next meal and then the
[11:45]milkshake and then this and then this and then that very fast
[11:52]like munching machines so it's must to take your time number one
[11:57]for health reasons there's saliva in your mouth that has enzymes it
[12:02]helps break down the food before it gets down to your stomach
[12:05]so that your stomach doesn't have to go through all the effort
[12:09]and work to digest that half a pound of burger that you
[12:14]just ate right so taking your time for health reasons number one
[12:19]secondly Islam wants us to enjoy the pleasures that Allah subhana T
[12:23]gave us in this world there's nothing in Islam that tells us
[12:28]to go on a mountain and become monks this is not the
[12:31]Islamic way of spirituality we're not supposed to disconnect ourselves from worldly
[12:36]pleasures the idea is that when we do something worldly even it
[12:41]has to be done with God Consciousness when I'm eating a blessing
[12:46]from Allah in order to thank Allah for it I enjoy it
[12:51]and I eat it the proper way so there's nothing wrong with
[12:54]enjoying the pleasures what's wrong is when you're eating and you're destroying
[12:59]en yourself by not enjoying it Allah gave you all of this
[13:02]beauty and you're unable to make anything out of it it doesn't
[13:10]satisfy you you go on a hike with your friends 70% of
[13:13]the time taking pictures and taking videos when do you enjoy the
[13:21]nature that you're looking at you're looking at the water in front
[13:24]of you pristine water is supposed to bring PE peace to the
[13:29]heart instead of looking at at it you're taking videos and posting
[13:33]right it's nice to share things with other people but the problem
[13:37]with this is it's always going to leave an emptiness inside of
[13:40]you you're never going to be satisfied you're going to keep looking
[13:45]for more and more and more and the longer you look for
[13:47]fulfillment and you don't find it the more you're going to suffer
[13:51]whereas if you focus on what you're doing even if it wasn't
[13:57]the full time like for example they say on if you're praying
[14:00]100 it's a lot of prayer units only pray two of them
[14:07]with Focus as the prophet says if you pay pray one unit
[14:09]of Salat with Focus it's much better than praying a thousand with
[14:16]no Focus it's much better why because that two prayers with Focus
[14:20]brings about the inner peace that you're looking for and that inner
[14:24]peace that you find from those two raas are going to remain
[14:30]with you for hours perhaps for days as well believe me if
[14:33]you try it you'll understand what I'm talking about sometimes you pray
[14:38]T it brings that peace inside and that feeling stays inside of
[14:41]you and you're okay you don't have to do a Dua you
[14:45]don't have to do this for another week or so because it
[14:49]g it gave you enough spiritual energy so what we have to
[14:55]be looking for is looking for that quality in our life not
[15:00]quantity and the life that we're living over here is mostly a
[15:05]life of quantification we're always looking for the many we're looking to
[15:10]satisfy ourselves with the things that we buy I want to buy
[15:12]that it's going to make me happy going to make me happy
[15:14]going to make me happy I have a whole happiness do I
[15:23]get how much does that happiness last for it'll last for 5
[15:27]minutes 10 minutes 15 minutes maybe maybe a day and it goes
[15:32]away then you have to buy something new so what's the problem
[15:35]here if we're aware of this then we have to try to
[15:40]resolve it and the Quran comes and tells us that one way
[15:45]if you want to live a good life then you have to
[15:49]fix your orientation have one goal in your life and that goal
[15:54]is to please Allah subhah wa ta'ala have that as your goal
[15:59]in every single thing that you do in your purchasing in your
[16:02]eating in your speaking in your living in your working everything you
[16:06]do Orient yourself towards Allah subhah wa ta'ala because if you eat
[16:11]for God and you speak for God and you live for God
[16:15]everything you do you're always going to be conscious of what you're
[16:18]doing if I'm speaking for Allah subhana wa tala then I'm aware
[16:21]that I have to speak only good things I don't speak things
[16:25]that I'm going to regret after saying them I'm not going to
[16:28]be backbiting people I'm not going to to be lying because all
[16:31]of these things they bring about regret after you say them if
[16:35]you lie if you talk about somebody it creates regretful inside of
[16:38]you you might think that you might get pleasure at that moment
[16:44]but it's making you into a miserable person looking negatively at other
[16:49]people speaking negatively about other people all the time so when you
[16:53]become God weary you say no I'm going to correct the way
[16:58]I'm speaking so that nothing but good comes out of my mouth
[17:00]and once you do that you lessen the problems that you have
[17:05]you lessen the suffering that you have okay I had a thousand
[17:08]things that are making me suffer I brought it down to 950
[17:11]and you feel the change in your life quality so focusing yourself
[17:17]on Allah subhana wa tala is something that's very important and the
[17:20]life that we're living here is a life of fragmentation again this
[17:23]is part of postmodernism as well to break everything apart and to
[17:29]make things into frag ments and we become so occupied with these
[17:34]things the best solution in Islam is to bring everything back to
[17:39]means to unify things if there's a problem that I'm facing in
[17:44]life I can if I have so many problems I can summarize
[17:47]them and categorize them under one I can also divide them into
[17:54]a thousand would it be easier to deal with a thousand issues
[17:56]or would it be easier to deal with one issue of course
[18:00]one issue is much easier if I think that my suffering here
[18:04]is because of me not being a good servant of Allah subhah
[18:09]wa ta'ala that would resolve all the other problems that I have
[18:12]instead of thinking that I have low self-esteem or I you know
[18:17]I'm unable to be honest with other people I'm I'm unable to
[18:20]succeed in my life I'm not pleasing anybody I'm not good enough
[18:22]you have this Division and then you want to resolve each and
[18:26]every single one of them and you find yourself unable to resol
[18:29]these things if you say no my issue is I'm not close
[18:34]to Allah subhana wa tala then that will resolve all of these
[18:37]issues that you have why because as long as you're doing the
[18:42]right thing and you're a good person and Allah subhana T knows
[18:45]this intention from you you feel happy you're not waiting for other
[18:48]people to praise you you're not waiting for other people to be
[18:53]happy about you doesn't matter anymore if you're looking for people's pleasure
[18:57]then you're never going to be satisfied if you're sensitive about what
[19:01]people say about you you're never going to be satisfied and the
[19:06]Imam tells us whoever is always waiting for the pleasure of the
[19:10]people is going to die out of worry in their life because
[19:13]you're always worried what do they think about me what do they
[19:16]think about me and you want to make them happy you post
[19:21]pictures of yourself you put filters you you fix things why because
[19:26]you're not satisfied with who you are as an individual why are
[19:30]you satisfied for for who you are as an individual why are
[19:34]you waiting for other people to validate you if you think to
[19:38]yourself Allah subhana validates me he created me and in the Quran
[19:43]he says in the most beautiful way he created me and in
[19:48]the eyes of Allah subhana T I'm beautiful of course that doesn't
[19:52]mean we don't beautify ourselves Islam emphasizes that there should be a
[19:58]form of beautification you know I was I went to this group
[20:02]that they were um um how do I describe them um they
[20:09]were people who supported living naturally with the environment in a community
[20:15]setting basically right so they're against you know um capitalism against these
[20:21]things like that they're non-muslims again this was in Germany as well
[20:24]and some of them like we so against consumerism that they didn't
[20:31]believe in beautification at all so no perfume no deodorant no showers
[20:36]no nothing and this was supposed to be the Natural State and
[20:40]it was terrible to be amongst those individuals I mean that's that's
[20:45]a bit extreme you don't want to go that far the prophet
[20:49]said put perfume on put Al on clean yourself and the prophet
[20:53]suffered from this as well right the wash the the shower or
[21:01]the wash of Friday before Sal everybody knows about this in J
[21:05]before going to J prayers on Friday it's to take a shower
[21:10]religious and if you do it you don't have to make W
[21:15]after it does anybody know why this was legislated in the Hadith
[21:20]it says that the prophet called the people to pray Sal and
[21:24]he went to lead the prayer and most of the people that
[21:29]came had not showered that day and they smelt very bad they
[21:31]had a lot of body odor so the prophet when he finished
[21:37]his Salat he told them look guys please next week before you
[21:40]come to you perform you shower and if you shower you don't
[21:46]have to do W just to kind of give him this encouragement
[21:47]because he couldn't take it it was the Mala run away the
[21:52]Angels can't even take it so he told them to go wash
[21:57]themselves so don't think that oh I'm I'm I'm a naturalist you
[21:58]know I've in the nature I should smell and people should you
[22:04]know Embrace My Embrace her body odor and you know all these
[22:06]Concepts like no no look there's a there's a level of extremity
[22:09]over here don't Embrace everything just because it's natural so sometimes the
[22:13]the body if you're eating like garlic or onion or something that's
[22:18]not your natural body odor that's like onion and garlic affecting you
[22:22]right mask it that's why it's makru to eat garlic and onion
[22:26]before you come to a congregation it's mcru and in the Hadith
[22:31]it says even the angels run away from it that's how bad
[22:33]it is so it's important for us to find the correct balance
[22:38]I don't want to wait for the validation of other people at
[22:43]the same time I shouldn't neglect myself completely I should look for
[22:47]a proper balance what Allah subhana T has told me so when
[22:53]you're searching for this Tranquility in life try to unify your issues
[22:57]instead of fragmenting them one of the favorite words that we have
[23:01]nowadays that is repeated so much is nuances right who has used
[23:07]nuances over here who said it at least once in their life
[23:11]nobody no one's using nuances okay it's a common word nuances everyone's
[23:19]looking for the nuances right every topic there are nuances nuances nuances
[23:23]yes in certain areas it's important to look for the nuances there's
[23:27]no issue with that but if you delve too much into nuances
[23:32]you're never going to be able to resolve your problems you're never
[23:36]going to reach a conclusion or answer because every Nuance has a
[23:39]Nuance to it and that Nuance has a Nuance to it then
[23:44]you get to like okay what do I do now how do
[23:48]I is this a problem or not a problem this person murdered
[23:50]somebody well look there there's a bit nuanced let's look into their
[23:55]family history let's look what their father did to them what their
[23:57]mother did to to them what their Uncle did you start digging
[24:01]and digging and digging and suddenly you find a reason yes it
[24:04]makes sense why this person murdered that individual you find a justification
[24:09]for it it becomes confusing okay wait a second is murder a
[24:15]wrong thing or is it something Justified because of something that happened
[24:18]in the past life of this individual okay let's say that person
[24:21]really did suffer but I cannot justify this action in the society
[24:27]so when we're looking for problems we shouldn't always delve into them
[24:31]so deeply and then not fig and then we lose our way
[24:36]and this is what postmodernism does it fragments everything so that we
[24:42]cannot reach a conclusion anywhere what is right in what is wrong
[24:46]we don't know anymore what is a virtue what is not a
[24:50]virtue what is a vice we don't know anymore is being generous
[24:52]a good thing why should I give somebody money when they're not
[24:59]working themselves charity charity is a bad thing I'm enabling people to
[25:05]become unemployed I'm supporting those who are lazy so you start losing
[25:11]the compass so it's important for us to go back to our
[25:13]narrations and our Hadith and the Quran to understand that no there
[25:20]is something that is objectively good and this is one thing that
[25:22]the Imam the sh differ from other sects the sh believe believe
[25:29]in the concept of divine Justice they call us us and the
[25:36]are a group of theologians that are sunnis but the sunnis are
[25:40]divided between and the they agree with the sh that there is
[25:49]something that is objectively good and objectively bad theis don't believe in
[25:56]objectively good objectively bad they say whatever God says is good whatever
[26:00]he says is bad is bad so for example if Allah subhana
[26:04]T says today I decide that lying is a bad thing sorry
[26:06]is a good thing lying becomes a good thing lying is not
[26:09]objectively evil the sh and they say no lying is inherently evil
[26:19]it's objectively evil it's wrong to lie and it's impossible that Allah
[26:23]subhana tal would ever tell someone to lie because Allah is only
[26:26]good so in sh theology we believe that goodness is objective and
[26:32]evil is objective it's Universal every person who has a healthy mind
[26:37]and a healthy soul is able to detect what's good and detect
[26:40]what is bad the other side says no and in postmodernism they
[26:45]don't believe in objective goodness and Badness so you can justify everything
[26:51]evil and this destroys relationships as well because every time you're in
[26:56]a problem with your spouse or with someone you're speaking with you're
[27:00]always going to justify whatever evil that you perform against them you
[27:04]lose empathy you lose understanding of the other person and you start
[27:12]only thinking of it from your side only and you justify anything
[27:15]you do can be justified but if you have a standard that
[27:19]no matter what I have to maintain certain respect for my parent
[27:24]doesn't matter what they do yes I'm not going to allow them
[27:26]to oppress me I won't allow them to step over me but
[27:30]I have to deal with them with respect this is very important
[27:32]not just for the goodness of my own soul but for the
[27:38]goodness of society it's collectively good to maintain respect for those who
[27:43]brought us into this world and took care of us we're going
[27:44]to grow up one day we're going to have children we're going
[27:48]to expect those children to treat us in the same way nobody's
[27:50]perfect in this world your parents are not perfect your spouses are
[27:54]not perfect no one's ideal so they're going to make mist mistakes
[27:59]and you have to understand even though they make mistakes I make
[28:02]mistakes too but I have to maintain a form of Justice when
[28:07]I'm dealing with these individuals respect for the parents respect for the
[28:12]elders respect for my children when I'm making when I'm taking care
[28:16]of the kids that I have at home I have to understand
[28:20]that I'm not a dictator over them this is your responsibility too
[28:25]so as a Muslim individual try to bring everything back in your
[28:31]behavior to Allah subhana wa ta'ala Allah is the objective truth he's
[28:34]the beauty he's the goodness when I'm speaking with my child Allah's
[28:40]in my mind when I'm speaking with my parent Allah is in
[28:44]my mind have your relationship with Allah subhana wa ta'ala look at
[28:49]everybody outside of you as a means to get closer to Allah
[28:52]subhana wa tala you're dealing with someone that's evil someone that's torturing
[28:57]you someone that's punishing you someone is insulting you think to yourself
[29:01]how can I take advantage of this situation for my own good
[29:05]how can I become a more patient individual I have to deal
[29:11]with people that are going to make me suffer right that's the
[29:13]only time you get patient you don't get patience out of just
[29:17]being born or living on a mountain away from human beings people
[29:20]have tried that and in theth we have a lot of indications
[29:24]of Muslims during the prophet and the im's times who thought that
[29:29]was the solution I want to buy a house outside 10 acres
[29:33]I don't want to see nobody that's not the solution how do
[29:36]you improve yourself if you don't see people during the prophet's time
[29:41]there was an individual who decided to go and seclude himself he
[29:43]left his wife he left his family he left everybody he says
[29:46]I just want to worship Allah subhana wa tala I don't want
[29:50]a headache it's understandable when you want to escape but there was
[29:56]one saying that they say that the problem is when you Escape
[29:59]you take yourself with you and that's the problem the problem isn't
[30:05]the other person you're running away from you think the other is
[30:08]the problem you're taking the problem with you that's you you're going
[30:11]there you're the one who can't handle criticism you can't handle people
[30:14]talking you can't handle these things it's still with you you didn't
[30:18]leave it back there so running away on the outside doesn't solve
[30:23]your problems being in society as Islam tells us and being patient
[30:28]helping others understanding other people resolving conflicts living amongst the people in
[30:34]a good way is the correct way of living this is how
[30:38]you improve yourself that person who abandoned his family the prophet criticized
[30:41]he said that this person is not following my teachings you are
[30:47]to live amongst the people you are to work for your family
[30:51]I'm tired of working every single day I wna I don't have
[30:55]time to do Quran and Dua the prophet said the one who
[31:00]works for his family is greater than the one who is fighting
[31:03]in battle for Islam it's very good to work you go to
[31:06]work just change your intention that's all you have to do my
[31:11]work in the morning can turn into into worship worship is not
[31:15]just Salat and fasting my going to work can be even better
[31:19]than my Salat I just may have to make the intention oh
[31:21]Allah I'm working to provide for myself you're the one who commanded
[31:25]us to work I'm providing for my family so that we I
[31:29]don't put them in need of anyone else this is my intention
[31:31]all of your work you clock in the Mal they clock in
[31:36]for you as well this is all considered rewards for you spiritual
[31:40]rewards just change your intention become God weary become aware of God's
[31:45]Beauty and make that your goal in life so you have only
[31:50]one concern is Allah subhana wa T pleased with me or no
[31:52]if that's your only concern in life then you've summarized all your
[31:58]problems into one you don't have to scatter your brain anymore I
[32:01]only have one issue are you pleased like say when im Hussein
[32:08]was slaughtered and he was killed and she lifted him up and
[32:11]she looked at Allah subhana wa tala she looked above to the
[32:16]to the heavens and she said Allah are you pleased take until
[32:19]you're pleased this was the goal this was the objective they lived
[32:24]their life for Allah subhana wa tala and living in this community
[32:27]here is very challenging there's a lot of problems we're not going
[32:31]to be able to perfect ourselves we have to stop thinking of
[32:36]this ideal situation and Allah doesn't expect us to perfect ourselves but
[32:39]he wants us to work towards Perfection he wants us to be
[32:43]take advantage of it fasting and I know staying away from food
[32:48]over here in Deerborne is the biggest test that Allah can put
[32:51]upon us not any other test this is the the hardest thing
[32:56]ever right so being able to restrain yourself from that God has
[33:01]already pushed you he said look I'm helping you you're restraining yourself
[33:06]from this now restrain yourself from other things restrain your tongue next
[33:11]time you want to say something bad hold yourself back just like
[33:15]you held yourself from eating today next time you want to hurt
[33:18]somebody hold yourself back just like you held yourself back today and
[33:22]so on and so forth a beautiful thing in this month as
[33:26]well is the ability to perform more prayers and alhamdulillah we have
[33:32]a wonderful reciter over here that was invited Abu brother Abu may
[33:38]Allah subhana T Grant him a long life and success and strength
[33:41]to serve the umah because the prophet sallallahu alaih wasallam again it
[33:46]goes back to the artistic element to hear a beautiful voice it
[33:49]has an effect on the soul when the prophet wanted to raise
[33:53]the firstan on the Kaa he selected bil alhabash why why was
[34:00]bil chosen amongst all the other people because bil had a very
[34:04]beautiful voice and the prophet said that the has to be a
[34:09]with a beautiful voice don't put random people it's very important when
[34:12]you do something you do it beautifully yes you might be a
[34:17]very good believer but you have a terrible voice not it's not
[34:20]a condition for your Perfection to have a beautiful voice not everybody
[34:23]has to have a beautiful voice but someone who does will use
[34:27]them for thean you don't have a beautiful voice we can you
[34:30]can be using something else but we have some Believers that insist
[34:35]that they want to recite the Adan even though their voice is
[34:38]not beautiful I remember living in in a gulf country for some
[34:41]years and as soon as thean goes off you want to put
[34:48]ear plugs in your ear like like if I wanted to if
[34:52]I had any spirituality is gone now so always use this and
[34:59]take advantage of it is here listen to the Dua this is
[35:01]a very beautiful opportunity that we have after the lecture he's going
[35:03]to recite and these are the words of IM now listening to
[35:09]the voice is only half of the thing right it takes you
[35:17]up spiritually it elevates you beautiful music is the melodious voice is
[35:21]beautiful it elevates you spiritually right but don't stop there don't get
[35:25]stuck in the voice take the next step and focus on on
[35:29]the words that are being said use the voice as a catalyst
[35:31]as an element that helps you engage with the Dua even more
[35:38]take advantage of that the that he recites are from the book
[35:42]of IM which the imams have described as the Psalms of Al
[35:48]Muhammad of the family of the Prophet sallallahu alai it's the book
[35:52]that IM dictated to his son imak and his other Soni and
[36:00]IM says that I was also present with one he told them
[36:05]write these duas down now is it only in Arabic no this
[36:07]book has been translated into English with a very beautiful translation now
[36:14]it has some of Old English words like thou the thy and
[36:16]all this stuff but we all know what they kind of mean
[36:20]right I I hope so you your and things like that you
[36:23]can understand from the sentence if you go online just search or
[36:29]the Psalms of Islam Psalms PS a l Ms the translator is
[36:35]Professor William chid someone who went to Iran he studied there he's
[36:40]a very well-known Professor very welln in Persian and Arabic when AB
[36:43]is reciting the Dua go into that book The Psalms of Islam
[36:49]by William Chik and he translated them the 15 whispered prayers is
[36:54]what they're called the monat so today he's going to recite two
[36:59]monaj as he's reciting the Arabic follow him with English try to
[37:03]connect with it inallah every night he'll be reciting the duas with
[37:06]you you might not be able to follow with everything but at
[37:11]least try to connect with one sentence or two sentences make sure
[37:14]that this Ramadan does not pass unless except that you've changed one
[37:18]thing in your life one thing if you change one bad habit
[37:23]you're a better person than you were last year that's an achievement
[37:26]don't think you have to change a thousand things to become a
[37:29]better person if you change one bad thing you're already a better
[37:35]person so put that goal for yourself I want to become a
[37:37]better person in one area and if you succeed Allah subhana wa
[37:41]tala would be very pleased with you because you've taken advantage of
[37:44]this month he doesn't want you to become a prophet after this
[37:46]just a little change in you this is why he gave us
[37:51]this opportunity we ask Allah subhana T to grant us the ability
[37:53]the strength the understanding to be able to create this inner change
[37:57]to be able to take advantage of this beautiful month and please
[38:03]stay for the Dua if you can listen to it it's only
[38:07]10 minutes told me it's not going to take more than 10
[38:08]minutes so inshah we can stay and listen to it and then
[38:13]we can leave after that [Applause] muhad thank you shna for that
