[5:23]work on themselves but I believe that they know how dangerous this

[5:27]is right so they were glued to their television because they needed

[5:31]to know what is going to happen in 2006 16 and this

[5:38]astrologer she claimed to be a Muslim but she wasn't practicing you

[5:42]know the proper hijab she she wasn't even you know identifying with

[5:47]Islam the way that a Muslim should so this teaches us a

[5:54]very important lesson and that is when we want to choose our

[5:57]new year's resolutions and we want to see what's going to happen

[6:02]in the upcoming future we have to rely on what we have

[6:07]to rely on our own decision-making and our own mind not on

[6:11]the star is not on our horoscopes because no one can come

[6:16]and tell you what's going to happen in the future we also

[9:12]to build my future I should go to the one who knows

[9:18]what tools i need what types of resources and knowledge i need

[9:23]in order to become a successful person so another hadith which was

[9:28]very interesting what is someone came to him and said would you

[9:33]please give me a vid special piece of advice how I can

[9:39]be successful so we're all trying to think how to be successful

[13:11]a week a half an hour a day right and instead of

[13:14]making a huge goal is I want to lose this amount of

[13:16]weight you could make something more realistic and say well I just

[13:22]want to start maybe cutting down on some of the things that

[13:24]are causing me to gain we are making me feel unhealthy so

[13:30]it's more to be more successful our goals should be more realistic

[13:34]instead of idealistic and we shouldn't make such a huge list because

[13:38]it's like we're already setting ourselves up for what for failure right

[13:43]so we should really identify what is it that we want to

[13:47]change so as brother must said we should sit down and think

[13:53]about it ok so today's the first of the year I want

[13:57]to evaluate my life and I want to say I want to

[14:00]see what are the things that I'm liking and what are the

[14:02]things that are bothering me or aren't going well or causing a

[14:23]parents we don't have good communication with them they don't understand thus

[14:30]we feel or we don't really understand them or we don't even

[14:33]talk to our parents right there in one world and we're in

[14:34]another and I'd rather be with my friends so if that's something

[14:41]that's happening then and if you don't like that some people don't

[14:45]really care right some you have to say I really don't want

[14:47]a relationship with my parents because they're not understanding me or it's

[14:51]just too much work or too much trouble some people think that

[14:57]way and it's because of the the disconnect the lack of communication

[15:01]so if this is causing you hire chip in your life you

[15:04]know if you're not happy because of this relationship and you wish

[15:08]that things could change then what we need to do is look

[15:10]at ourselves and say okay what am i doing to contribute to

[15:17]this relationship which is maybe creating some disconnect and if they're doing

[15:23]something in my eyes that I don't like then maybe I can

[15:25]learn to communicate with them in a healthy way and say you

[15:29]know mom dad for instance I wish things could be better with

[15:32]us really I really need your help I really need your support

[15:37]because you're my parents but something isn't going right can we have

[15:41]a talk could we talk about this and if you really want

[15:46]to them with an open heart and open mind right with an

[15:50]open open ear which you might hear things that you don't like

[15:55]and they might say well I really can't stand how you do

[16:00]ABC d and that's not what you want to hear because in

[16:02]your mind what it's all their fault right they're the bad guys

[16:07]that's how it usually is but if you go with the open

[16:09]ear then it might you might be willing to find some some

[16:15]change in some resolution there so that's from the parents perspective the

[16:20]relationship with your parents how many of you in this room are

[16:24]married okay so we should talk about there so let's say that's

[16:29]one of your resolutions that you'd like to find a spouse and

[16:32]you'd like to be married right inshaa allah allah will give that

[16:36]risk to everyone who wants it and that's a very beautiful thing

[16:42]in Islam we are encouraged to be married and we're encouraged to

[16:46]be married early as you all know I know hamdullah all almost

[16:49]all of you in the audience are ma sha Allah regular attendees

[17:13]married or you'd like to find a significant other you have to

[17:16]look at well let's say that you've gotten to know someone in

[17:22]your life right and or you know you were engaged or you

[17:32]out you're just not able to find the right match well you

[17:37]have to see am i doing do I have really bad habits

[17:41]that I keep choosing the wrong person for instance or am I

[17:45]not changing myself year after year right so we have to look

[17:48]at again we have to evaluate okay what's going what's wrong is

[17:52]it the person is that where I'm going do I want to

[17:56]find a religious girl but I'm going to like for instance a

[17:58]mixed wedding with music and you know where that's not where they're

[18:02]really just people usually attempt in such a gathering for instance or

[18:09]am I or if I want someone that values knowledge and reading

[18:12]an education am I looking for them you know in the right

[18:18]places such as the bookstore or a lecture or you know at

[18:20]the masjid for instance so i have to see where am I

[18:27]looking to find the right spouse that will match my life style

[18:36]by 21 or I have to be married by 31 or if

[18:40]I'm not married by 35 on know if I'm not married by

[18:44]25 then you know that means I'm doomed forever no that's from

[18:49]Allah subhana wattana we should do our part preparing ourselves to find

[18:52]the right spouse and preparing ourselves to be the right spouse right

[18:57]and then allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala will also send us the person on

[19:02]the right time in sha allah salaam from madrid in the homeland

[19:26]in mind as the importance of gaining knowledge how many of you

[19:33]take gaining knowledge very seriously raise your hands hundred and that's excellent

[19:44]if I have to choose between going to bury someone in a

[19:50]funeral and go attending a funeral or attending an educational class which

[19:55]one should I do rasool allah allah allah salam he said if

[19:59]there's someone else to bury that person go to the educational class

[20:09]why because knowledge he said only knowledge leads you to worshiping God

[20:14]and only knowledge teaches you how to worship God he says the

[20:18]gatherings where knowledge is being given like for instance tonight all of

[20:22]you have made the decision to come and gain knowledge haven't you

[20:28]did you know that this genocide is gathering right now according to

[20:32]our holy prophet it's very important to understand why you do what

[20:36]you do and the reward behind it when we understand the philosophy

[20:39]behind our acts and the and the recommendations given by the holy

[27:28]so we we want to spend it in the way but if

[27:30]we do have a job and we want a promotion friend since

[27:33]or we want more money we should do up which is actually

[27:35]be assertive and speak to our boss and ask them say I'd

[27:42]like a promotion what should I do to to earn that promotion

[27:46]right or I'm in high school and I'd like a part-time job

[27:50]because I have a lot of time on my hands so I

[27:54]can ask my parents what can I do to earn a part-time

[27:57]job something that I can make a difference in society and in

[28:01]my life so actually trying to seek that job through the right

[28:06]means access by the way how many of you overheard of access

[28:18]school student or a college student or you're not even a student

[29:05]for that but that's something really good and just taking a walk

[29:09]you know two to three times a week just leaving your house

[29:12]and walking around your neighborhood I know it's pretty freezing but you

[29:16]can go to the mall and walk in the morning or after

[29:20]score or something just to get some some exercise and one way

[29:22]to motivate you brothers and sisters is to find a partner right

[29:28]usually when we do things by ourselves we give up but if

[29:30]we find a partner and Islam is all about being healthy so

[29:35]we shouldn't think that oh if I'm really just that means what

[29:40]I just pray and fast and I go to the door and

[29:44]that's it no no no if I my religious believer what should

[29:46]I do I should take care of my body of my mind

[29:50]my spirit I should take care of my family be active member

[29:57]in my society so having exercised in your routine is a very

[30:04]excellent Islamic activity and something that is very much encouraged in Islam

[30:10]how about cooking at home for some of the ladies cooking is

[30:13]very good at home wyd saves you a lot of money from

[30:17]going out and buying from the restaurant and for my stomach perspective

[30:21]what does it do you are eating more thought head clean food

[30:26]you know where you got your meat from you know you did

[30:29]well though maybe before you prepared your meal brothers if you eat

[30:32]a lot out from the restaurants you know subs and pizza and

[30:37]all of that very unhealthy very unhealthy so I advise you to

[30:41]change that bad habit and leave the chips and the junk food

[30:45]and I'm a Pepsi and all of that because it's just going

[30:47]to give you diabetes so stay away from that and sisters of

[30:54]course to my sisters usually care more about what they put in

[30:56]their bodies but did you know that whatever you put in your

[31:01]mouth and in your body it affects how you feel it affects

[31:04]your spirit affects your energy when i was in Giada this year

[31:10]I'm not people in their late 60s I'll tell you they had

[31:12]a lot more energy than than I did and why it's because

[31:16]they were very careful what they and what they put in their

[31:19]bodies let's say I am I am a wife or I am

[31:23]a husband where I'm a child or a parents I want to

[31:27]make a goal to be a better a better person I want

[31:32]to have much better relationships with my parents like we talked about

[31:36]or if I'm married with my spouse or in my community with

[31:40]my friends also sleeping getting eight hours of sleep is very important

[31:47]did you know that Imam al-ghazali Salaam he says he has a

[31:54]book that's called tobin mama luba and he teaches us how we

[31:58]should eat and sleep in and take care of ourselves and he

[32:00]says we should sleep also eight hours a day doesn't necessarily have

[32:05]to be eight straight hours but you can you know chop it

[32:08]up a little bit like six hours and then during the day

[32:11]if you want to take a take a nap or so that's

[32:15]really important so these are some of the resolutions that we have

[32:20]from a little bait and also from our daily lives that we

[32:23]can apply and sha Allah and find solutions I pray that Allah

[32:29]gives us the power and the ability to succeed in sha Allah

[32:34]and one secret to success really is the state of your mind

[32:42]the state of your mind our mind is such a powerful tool

[32:45]that if I tell myself I will be successful oh excuse me

[32:54]if I told myself I will be successful and i will be

[33:02]happy and i will accomplish my goals and i will make a

[33:06]difference in society whatever i tell myself will happen and sha Allah

[33:10]it will happen but that doesn't mean it'll be a very easy

[33:17]smooth sailing road without hardships but higher chips build us and they

[33:22]make us stronger and they make us more capable of handling what

[33:26]life has to bring in sha Allah so I pray that we

[33:31]have tofique we have obedience to allah subhana wa'ta'ala or i forgot

[33:35]to mention one thing which is so important and that is our

[33:38]daily prayers so if we're not you know that should have been

[33:45]number one but our prayers are so important because if I players

[33:49]aren't on track then we will not succeed and I have to

[33:54]mention this because I was speaking I saw like eight people texting

[33:57]and looking at their phones and I said to myself what's happening

[34:04]why aren't people paying attention why aren't we connecting why are we

[34:07]respecting each other why are we so attached to our cell phones

[34:14]and I really pray that we learn how to connect with each

[34:17]other face to face cuz trust me by the way if you

[34:23]don't know I'm a social worker I have a master's in social

[34:27]work and I work now access I'm a therapist and I work

[34:29]with a lot of people that have mental health issues depression anxiety

[34:32]name one of the worst things that we could do that will

[34:39]create a lot of issues for us unhappiness feeling unsatisfied is when

[34:43]we disconnect from others when we just sit and we text and

[34:46]we get so attached to our phones and we forget how to

[34:50]just sit together and have a one-on-one conversation and care and love

[34:53]one another and care for one another we're setting ourselves up for

[34:57]failure so we really should put our phones give it a break

[35:04]give your mind a break Give Your Heart let your heart feel

[35:06]the love from others from the knowledge enjoy each other's relationships this

[35:12]is what the secret of Islam is about the best way to

[35:19]get closer to Allah is to love people to be affectionate to

[35:21]be caring to be useful if I'm sitting at home and I'm

[35:26]trying to talk to you but you're just on your cell phone

[35:28]to me that means you I'm not important to you and whoever

[35:32]and believe me I know the person on the other side is

[35:34]not that important either it's just we've become so addicted it's really

[35:38]become like an addiction we have to control ourselves sisters brothers and

[35:43]I'm telling you this because you're all like my family my sister's

[35:48]my brothers and I see what's happening people don't even call each

[35:50]other anymore and say said ironic happy new year how are you

[35:55]I want to see you let's go for coffee you send the

[35:56]text happy new year with a heart that's enough and then you

[36:00]don't see your friend or your sister your aunt your uncle for

[36:03]a year how are you I'm fine so everybody feels like they

[36:10]did something you know very like they made their conscious clear by

[36:14]sending me texts we sent the text tell us it's enough but

[36:17]that's that's not what Islam is all about Islam is about connecting

[36:25]visiting whenever someone goes and visits their brother and faith do you

[36:30]know the rewards that you are receiving when you sit and you

[36:33]look at your parents and your smile at them you don't need

[36:34]anything you just smile let's hey bada when you pick up the

[36:39]phone you say are you okay I just want to check up

[36:42]on you not texting check up on each other through a phone

[36:45]call that brings joy in the hearts of people well law that's

[36:48]what gives us happiness that's what gives us happiness is when we

[36:56]connect Allah made of social beings not robots just sitting on the

[37:00]phone why not know about you guys we have hearts we have

[37:06]we have souls my soul needs you you need me we need

[37:09]each other so this is I pray that this is the best

[37:18]resolution for 2016 yaa allah no we put our technology aside sometimes

[37:22]and we care about each other we respect one another we love

[37:25]each other because when you let go of your you know selfishness

[37:30]all of us have it in us we all have like a

[37:36]pharaoh inside of us that tells us to do bad things when

[37:38]we put that on the side and we bring out the goodness

[37:43]in us we find happiness we find happiness so we pray to

[37:48]Allah for happiness tofique success obedience and most important everything is most

[37:54]important right every time I want to conclude I think of more

[37:58]things to say but we can't under section without remember in our

[38:00]12th holy imam because he is the key to our success isn't

[38:05]he so if you don't know you're twelve holy imam year 2016

[38:08]number one resolution is i want to know imam and mahady connect

[38:14]with him read about him and make him a real person in

[38:17]my life I lateness sanam we pray that Allah will bring him

[38:23]back while we're alive so we could live and he could fill

[38:26]earth with justice and peace after it was filled with oppression so
