[0:00]Oh, who Talk about her.
[0:25]non-law.
[0:46]Ashuan Ash had an Hey, I listen.
[1:32]Hey son.
[1:42]Hey.
[1:50]Hey.
[2:00]Hey.
[2:01]Hana.
[2:03]for London.
[2:31]Lord, Alhamdulillah.
[3:44]I seek refuge in Allah, the all hearing and the all knowing
[3:48]from the accursed Satan.
[3:50]In the name of Allah, the most merciful, the most compassionate.
[3:55]All praise is due to God, the first before creation and life,
[3:59]and the last after the annihilation of all things.
[4:02]He is the all knowing who does not forget those who remember
[4:06]him, does not diminish the reward of those who thank him, does
[4:10]not disappoint those who call upon him, and does not suffer the
[4:16]hope of those who place their trust in him.
[4:19]I bear witness that there is no deity but God alone without
[4:21]a partner.
[4:23]And I bear witness that Muhammad sallall.aii wasallam is his servant and
[4:29]messenger.
[4:28]He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth to make
[4:33]it prevail over all religions even though the polytheist may dislike him.
[4:37]Oh Allah, send your blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad
[4:42]and bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad and have mercy on
[4:45]Muhammad and the family of Muhammad in the best way.
[4:46]You have sent blessings, bestowed blessings and showed mercy upon Abraham and
[4:52]the family of Abraham.
[4:55]Indeed, you are praiseworthy, glorious, and you do what you will.
[4:59]Servant of God, I advise you and myself to be mindful of
[5:04]God the Almighty, to follow his commands, and to avoid his prohibitions.
[5:10]In this month, we have a number of occasions that we are
[5:16]blessed with.
[5:19]Just last week we had the birthday of Im Al Jawad Alisam
[5:25]and it is great to remember the imams on this occasion on
[5:32]many different levels.
[5:32]Some people say that what we have to take from the imams
[5:38]is their teachings and others say that their history and their lives
[5:42]is just as important as well.
[5:43]And others believe that just saying their praise is what we're supposed
[5:47]to be doing.
[5:48]But of course combining everything together is always the best way if
[5:56]all of them have benefit.
[5:56]This is just like when it comes to hadith and you have
[6:02]two a hadith two narrations that seem to contradict one another.
[6:05]The possibilities that we have is either to reject both of them
[6:09]because we can't figure out which one is correct.
[6:12]They're both let's say but there's a principle when it comes to
[6:15]this that the scholars have places that to combine them together and
[6:23]to find a way where you can reconcile the both both of
[6:26]the meanings is always better than eliminating.
[6:29]So reconciling is always better than eliminating.
[6:32]And this is an this is applicable to almost a lot of
[6:37]things in life.
[6:36]It's true that the might have mentioned it when it comes to
[6:41]hadith, but you can also include it in your personal life.
[6:43]If you have a dispute with two people, you don't just eliminate
[6:47]them because you can't figure out which one is the correct one.
[6:52]You try to reconcile.
[6:54]For example, so when it comes to things like this, it doesn't
[6:57]always have to be black and white.
[6:59]If we find benefit in one thing and benefit in another thing
[7:05]and they seem to conflict with one another, then reconciling them and
[7:11]having the benefit of both might be more beneficial.
[7:14]So some people are used to only mentioning the merits of and
[7:19]the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam in these occasions.
[7:21]But it's good to do that and it's also good to combine
[7:25]it with their teachings because this is what they came for.
[7:27]The imams came as our teachers.
[7:29]It's important to know them and to know their status because it
[7:35]has a benefit on our souls as well.
[7:39]When we take the knowledge from them intellectually we have to be
[7:43]aware who we're taking things from because as human beings we have
[7:45]different faculties that have to be fulfilled.
[7:48]Right?
[7:49]We have an intellectual faculty so we need to feed the intellect.
[7:53]We have an emotional faculty.
[7:55]So we need to feed the emotions.
[7:57]We have an imaginative faculty.
[7:58]So we need to feed the imagination as well.
[8:03]We have to perfect ourselves on each and every level.
[8:09]And this is why was sent.
[8:11]He wasn't sent as a prophet only to deal with the let's
[8:18]say the rulings of life.
[8:19]He was sent as a messenger to perfect our whole being starting
[8:24]from the inner depths of our soul going to our intellect and
[8:32]our imagination as well.
[8:33]These are all faculties that have to be perfected in order for
[8:36]us to journey towards Allah subhana wa tala.
[8:39]If my intellect is perfect but on a spiritual level I'm lacking
[8:43]then I lack perfection.
[8:46]I might not be able to move forward correctly.
[8:48]It's like a person who has a car and the tires are
[8:52]brand new, the muffler is excellent, and the motor is not working.
[8:59]It doesn't help that your tires are very well.
[9:01]Sorry, I don't know all the car parts, but this is three
[9:06]things that I know.
[9:06]So, the the motor, the engine, if it doesn't work, there's no
[9:12]benefit in having a brand new car, right?
[9:15]It's going to stay where it is.
[9:15]And the same thing if the motor's working but you have no
[9:17]wheels you might say okay it's only a tire it doesn't cost
[9:21]that much it might not be very significant but small things are
[9:23]very significant to move you as well right even a small screw
[9:27]sometimes um if it's not there in the car the thing can
[9:32]fall apart right so when it comes to the human being the
[9:35]same thing I might perfect my intellect I might might be a
[9:40]very smart individual I might be someone who's excellent at debating I
[9:44]might be an activist and I'm pro- social justice and I'm out
[9:47]there and I'm I'm fighting for justice but I'm lacking in my
[9:54]spirituality here.
[9:53]I might move but I might not move very well.
[9:57]I might not move at all.
[10:00]I might even move backwards if I have some type of hypocrisy
[10:03]in my life.
[10:05]So when it comes to fixing ourselves, we have to understand that
[10:10]the prophet didn't only come to amend one segment of our lives.
[10:14]And a lot of people make this mistake when it comes to
[10:19]commemorating the imam's events.
[10:19]They say, "Oh, it's not important to talk about their merits or
[10:22]it's not important to cry over their death.
[10:24]It's not important." They're neglecting an essential part of our humanity, for
[10:30]example, the emotional part.
[10:31]And you find these people talk about being a logical religion and
[10:35]everything is about logic.
[10:38]Yes, it is in its own right.
[10:40]When it comes to logic, that's to feed your intellectual or rational
[10:43]aspect of your humanity.
[10:46]But there are other things that if you neglect, you are less
[10:49]of a human and not as worthy and you're not fulfilling the
[10:53]message that the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam came to fulfill.
[11:02]So when it comes to imam I'm going to share a few
[11:07]from the im in the sermon and then I'll dedicate the next
[11:12]sermon to IM Ali since we are also enjoying his birthday in
[11:14]few days in these in these days.
[11:18]Im Jawadam a lot of his hadith are related to social relations.
[11:23]If you look at the hadith that are mentioned, of course not
[11:26]all of them, but a significant portion of his a hadith are
[11:32]related to social relations.
[11:32]Because as the Muslims progressed during the years, a lot of things
[11:38]were being built from the foundation up.
[11:42]And one of the aspects that was lacking during the Imam's time
[11:48]was knowing who to associate yourself with.
[11:51]So it wasn't just friendships on a social level or on a
[11:54]small level.
[11:56]It was also social relations on a larger scale.
[11:59]Basically, if there's a movement, let's say a political movement or a
[12:05]social movement, those were very prevalent during the Imam's time because the
[12:08]Umayads had governed for a period of time and then the Abbasids
[12:15]took over.
[12:16]So there were significant changes in the Islamic history until it reached
[12:22]the time of Imam Al Jawad Alisam.
[12:24]A lot of ideas were introduced and people began to focus a
[12:29]lot on creating theories and meaning of life.
[12:32]So the imam has to get involved and emphasize the necessity of
[12:37]building strong relations and bonds in a community.
[12:41]And this is something that we have to always remind ourselves even
[12:45]in our communities over here that social relations are essential to have
[12:51]but they have to built be built based on certain criteria.
[12:55]So number one the imam talks about the close friendships or the
[13:02]close relations.
[13:03]One of the criteria that the imam gives us is the following.
[13:08]The im says imam says, "He who conceals the path of proper
[13:17]conduct from you in making you follow that which you desire is
[13:23]indeed your enemy." You have a friend who talks to you about
[13:27]a problem.
[13:29]they're seeking your advice or they're having a discussion with you and
[13:33]you know that this friend is in the wrong that they're mistaken
[13:38]when they're describing this conflict that they had with someone else but
[13:42]because you want to please them you want to make them happy.
[13:48]You don't want to disappoint them.
[13:50]You go along with this.
[13:51]The im says, "A person who does this for you is like
[13:57]your enemy.
[13:57]Concealing the truth instead of advising you when knowing you are wrong
[14:03]in order to please you is someone who seeks your destruction.
[14:06]It's a person who doesn't sincerely and genuinely care about you.
[14:10]So it's very important in our lives when we are with friends
[14:16]that we are careful in knowing and choosing and selecting these types
[14:20]of friends.
[14:22]And this is a test that we can use.
[14:24]If you're always telling someone a story and they're always agreeing with
[14:28]you, always justifying what you're doing, never pointing to a mistake that
[14:33]you could be doing, then you have to be wary.
[14:38]That might not be a true friend.
[14:39]If we combine this with the other hadith that we have where
[14:42]the imams tell us that our true friends are those who tell
[14:47]us when we make mistakes that make us cry instead of make
[14:52]us laugh when we're doing something wrong.
[14:52]They point to our mistakes because they care genuinely care about our
[14:57]well-being.
[14:57]A true friend is the one who wants the other person improving
[15:03]in their life so that when they see them making a mistake
[15:05]they point it out so that they can fix it.
[15:08]A person who sees someone who's falling in error and ignores it
[15:14]or con or accepts it and says that it's okay and it
[15:18]and says that this is you know justified is someone that doesn't
[15:23]truly care about you.
[15:23]And when it comes to spirituality, it's very important to choose someone
[15:27]that will always be wary about your soul and cares about your
[15:31]soul.
[15:31]That's why some of the teachers when it comes to spirituality, they
[15:38]say that have a close circle of friends who care about their
[15:41]spiritual being and your spiritual being.
[15:43]Because sometimes you might not realize you're making a mistake, right?
[15:46]It's a habit or something that nobody has ever told you is
[15:49]a wrong thing.
[15:51]But if you have this companion in your life who also cares
[15:54]about your soul, then get close to them because they will point
[15:59]to things that you have to amend and fix in your life
[16:01]so that you may perfect yourself.
[16:04]Another hadith that I'm going to share on a much broader level
[16:10]tells us, he who approves of a wicked deed part in it.
[16:19]This is on a social level.
[16:24]If there's anything that's wrong and you as an individual seem to
[16:28]give approval to it, even though you might not do that thing,
[16:32]if somebody killed an innocent individual, even though that person, let's say,
[16:37]you disagree with and you don't like and they got killed, but
[16:42]they got killed unjustly.
[16:42]If you approve of that then it is like you committed the
[16:48]crime as well because your heart is accepting that thing.
[16:53]And we have to be very careful of this.
[16:55]When we see something wrong, we have to disapprove of it because
[16:58]as soon as we approve of it, we're going to be counted
[17:00]among those who did that action.
[17:03]And we have a hadith where the prophet tells us the meaning
[17:05]of the hadith that on the day of resurrection people are going
[17:10]to be asked by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala about certain sins that
[17:13]they have not committed in their lives.
[17:15]Allah might tell them you have killed a thousand people.
[17:20]And the person says ya Allah I never killed anybody.
[17:26]You've stolen a thousand shops.
[17:27]And the person says I've never stolen in my life.
[17:31]Then the answer would come that there was someone who did that
[17:34]and you approved of their action.
[17:35]So you you parttook in that action.
[17:38]So it's very important that if you cannot do something on the
[17:42]outside at least don't let your heart accept something that is wrong.
[17:47]And this has to do with a lot of haram that's happening
[17:49]in our era as well.
[17:52]A lot of forbidden things.
[17:52]If you belittle them and you approve of them saying oh you
[17:55]know it doesn't matter.
[17:57]This is okay.
[17:57]This is just how life is nowadays.
[18:01]Your approval means that you are partaking in these as well.
[18:04]So important.
[18:05]It's important at least if you see something wrong and you don't
[18:08]want to speak against it, at least don't make it seem like
[18:11]you're okay with it because then that will lead to more corruption
[18:17]and wrongfulness.
[18:31]Muhammadham.
[18:47]Alhamdulillah.
[18:52]I praise God.
[18:54]Yet no speaker can articulate his praise.
[18:57]No reckoner can count his favors.
[18:59]And the most diligent cannot give him his due.
[19:04]Soaring thoughts cannot reach him, and deep minds cannot fathom him.
[19:07]He cannot be described for he is beyond the limits of demarcated
[19:12]boundaries, existing depictions, tallied times, and protracted lifespans.
[19:17]The first part of religion is knowledge of God.
[19:21]Knowledge of him is perfected by belief in him.
[19:24]And belief in him is perfected by the declaration of his oneness.
[19:29]Declaration of his oneness is perfected by sincere allegiance to him.
[19:34]And sincere allegiance to him is achieved by negating all attributes ascribed
[19:38]to him.
[19:38]I bear witness that there is no deity but God alone with
[19:43]no partner.
[19:44]And I bear witness that Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam is a servant
[19:49]and messenger.
[19:48]Oh Allah, send your blessings upon Muhammad, the seal of the prophets
[19:52]and the master of the messengers.
[19:56]And send your blessings, oh Lord, upon Ali, the commander of the
[20:00]faithful, and upon Fatima Zah, the lady of the woman of the
[20:02]worlds, and upon Al Hassan and al- Hussein, the masters of the
[20:08]youth of paradise.
[20:07]Oh Allah, send your blessings upon the imams of the Muslims.
[20:15]Ali Hussein Muhammad Ali Muhammad Musaf Ali Muhammad Ali Muhammad Al Hassni
[20:21]and aaitedham may Allah make us among his supporters and helpers inshallah
[20:34]we live during the days of the birth of Im Ali Ali
[20:41]am the commander of the faithful and I won't take too much
[20:48]of your time but I wanted to share a few a hadith
[20:50]from the teachings of the imam and it's very important for us
[20:55]to build that connection with the Imam it's important for us to
[21:00]read his sayings this beginning of the sermon that I recited were
[21:05]the words of the imam in his in a sermon that he
[21:11]mentions The peak of eloquence is what they translate it as.
[21:15]And in that he says that the first level of knowing Allah
[21:21]is the first level of im is to know Allah subhana wa
[21:24]ta'ala.
[21:25]Knowing God is very important and the same applies to the imams.
[21:30]You have to get to know them to build a connection with
[21:34]them.
[21:35]And we don't believe that the imams have died and they've ceased
[21:39]to exist.
[21:41]The Imams continue to be living because their souls are alive and
[21:46]they have not been disconnected from this world.
[21:49]Allahh in the Quran talks to us about certain individuals who have
[21:53]not died only their bodies have died but their souls continue to
[21:57]exist.
[21:58]And the more aware a person is existentially, the more perfect that
[22:03]individual is, the more they're able to connect to this world even
[22:07]after death.
[22:08]So knowing the im is essential for any person seeking spiritual perfection
[22:12]because he is the wii the individual who the prophet had appointed
[22:21]as his successor not only in the uh outer governance matters but
[22:27]more importantly in the spiritual matters and this is why most of
[22:31]the Islamic spiritual paths whether they're Sunni or Shia they go back
[22:36]to Imam it's enough for us to look at the imam's supplications,
[22:40]a supplication like dua, a supplication like the morning dua to see
[22:47]the level and status of his spirituality.
[22:51]Even though we can never fathom what he's saying when he speaks,
[22:53]he's speaking at a different level.
[22:54]When we read it, we understand it according to our own level.
[22:57]But even with our own limitations, we realize how beautiful and how
[23:02]uh great his his a hadith are.
[23:05]Another aspect that the imam was perfected in was his eloquence.
[23:10]The way he would describe things, the wisdom that he had.
[23:13]This is in addition to the justice that he was known for
[23:19]where the second caiff of the Muslims used to say the most
[23:23]just individual amongst all of us is this is an aspect the
[23:29]im was very prominently known for.
[23:30]If you take the book and every individual has to have this
[23:35]book in their home.
[23:38]It's been translated numerous translations.
[23:41]Look at which one is a better translation and choose that and
[23:44]read this book.
[23:46]Towards the end of the book, there are these short sayings of
[23:50]the imams.
[23:49]More than a hundred sayings of wisdom that the im has given.
[23:57]Acquaint yourself with the im.
[23:57]He he said these things not because he wanted to fill in
[24:02]his time with something to do.
[24:04]Every word that the imam had mentioned was a lesson and prescription
[24:07]for our souls.
[24:10]He talked to us in order to save our souls to help
[24:15]us improve ourselves before us.
[24:16]We have these hundreds of things that are from the im.
[24:18]How many of them have we read?
[24:20]How many of them even if we have read have we applied
[24:24]in our lives?
[24:26]A true follower of the Im is one who listens to his
[24:29]words first of all and secondly applies them.
[24:32]So try before you sleep at night to take one of these
[24:38]sayings and read them and say that this week this is going
[24:40]to be the theme of my week.
[24:44]I'm going to work on applying this specific teaching of the im.
[24:47]If a week is too short, make it a month.
[24:51]The point is actively try to change yourself self by looking at
[24:55]the hadith of the imams and use them as guides towards perfecting
[24:59]your own souls.
[25:01]If you're wondering how do I become a better person?
[25:04]How do I reach Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala?
[25:06]How do I do this?
[25:06]How do I do that in my religion?
[25:08]It's very simple.
[25:11]The prescriptions are there.
[25:12]Read them and implement them.
[25:13]A lot of people used to ask for so many different spiritual
[25:17]teachings.
[25:18]They want to go try psychedelics.
[25:20]They want to try this.
[25:21]They want to try that.
[25:25]Everyone's eager to reach that perfection or reach that experience of spirituality.
[25:29]Yet they neglect the most simple of things.
[25:32]If you are not applying the words of the imam, why are
[25:37]you seeking something that's beyond that, the most basic of things?
[25:41]So I'm going to share a few hadith here or a few
[25:44]sayings from the Immiam just as an example for us to benefit
[25:49]from and inshallah this will push you towards acquiring this book.
[25:52]You can find it online as well.
[25:53]You don't have to buy it but try to make it a
[25:57]part of your program inshallah.
[25:59]One of the sayings the imam says the tongue is a wild
[26:10]beast let loose attacks.
[26:14]The tongue of a human being.
[26:16]Look at how the im describes this.
[26:18]It's so beautiful.
[26:18]He said that your tongue is like a wild beast.
[26:22]If you let it, if you let it loose, it's going to
[26:27]attack and bite.
[26:28]The most dangerous thing that we have, maybe one of the most
[26:34]dangerous in our bodily organs is the tongue.
[26:36]The tongue has to be controlled.
[26:38]It has to be tamed.
[26:38]It has to be tied.
[26:41]As soon as you start speaking that tongue as the im and
[26:44]another saying tells us that sometimes one word that we say destroys
[26:51]our whole life and we've seen it many times amongst those around
[26:55]us.
[26:56]One word that they say a person builds a career their entire
[26:59]life.
[27:00]They become famous.
[27:04]They become wellknown.
[27:03]Everybody likes them.
[27:05]Then that fame takes over.
[27:08]They have no self-control.
[27:08]they become arrogant.
[27:10]So one day they say something that is arrogant and everybody suddenly
[27:15]turns against them and their whole reputation becomes destroyed.
[27:17]When we speak with individuals, we have to be very careful what
[27:22]we say.
[27:23]I might say a word that might harm an individual and destroy
[27:25]their life and therefore I will be responsible in the day of
[27:28]judgment for destroying that person's life until I personally amend it and
[27:35]fix it for them.
[27:35]This is the only way of repentance.
[27:37]So this tongue is what brings a lot of misery towards you.
[27:42]And the im describes it as a wild beast because if you
[27:45]don't control it, you're going to start talking and talking and talking
[27:49]and the more you talk without control, the more mistakes you're going
[27:53]to make.
[27:52]So the im teaches us if you want spirituality, if you want
[27:58]perfection, if you want a good life, control this tongue that's in
[28:02]your mouth.
[28:03]Think about what you want to say before you say it.
[28:05]When you want to say something, is Allah subhana wa tala pleased
[28:09]with what I'm saying?
[28:11]Can I make the intention that I will say this in order
[28:13]to get closer to Allah subhana wa tala?
[28:16]If you can't make that intention, then whatever you're saying is questionable.
[28:19]It's better not to say it.
[28:23]Practice, teach yourself how to control your tongue.
[28:27]Another saying that I want to mention here and I'll end with
[28:34]this inshallah.
[28:32]The imam says every breath is another step towards death.
[28:41]This is one of the most beautiful saying that the imam has.
[28:47]Every breath that you take is a step towards death.
[28:49]We're breathing every moment.
[28:52]But a lot of us don't realize, we're not aware that we
[28:55]are breathing towards the end of our life, right?
[28:59]We're moving towards the end of our lives.
[29:00]A lot of us are living thinking that we're going to live
[29:02]here forever.
[29:03]Even though we know that death is real and we see it
[29:08]around us all the time, but consciously we're not aware of it.
[29:11]Consciously we think that we're living to eternity.
[29:14]So the imam says that in order for you to be an
[29:17]individual who is wary, who is pious, who is spiritually an aware
[29:25]individual, then you have to be conscious that every breath that you
[29:28]take is moving you towards death.
[29:29]And that should be enough of an alert for you to perfect
[29:35]yourself to awaken you from your sleep.
[29:37]How do I improve myself knowing that every single moment I'm moving
[29:41]towards the end of my life?
[29:42]Have I achieved my goals here?
[29:46]My afterworldly goals.
[29:47]Have I achieved my worldly goals?
[29:48]Have I perfected myself?
[29:50]We might not be able to reach perfection in this life, but
[29:53]am I at least striving towards reaching that so that Allah subhana
[29:57]wa ta can count me amongst the perfect ones because he saw
[30:01]in me the sincere intention of wanting to become better and wanting
[30:05]to change.
[30:07]This is someone who is really aware of every existence and every
[30:13]reality of existence.
[30:12]Imam who were living during the days of his birth right now.
[30:19]The best ways to connect with him is to look at these
[30:21]teachings and secondly to implement them in our lives.
[30:25]This one itself the tongue one for example you can take that
[30:29]and that requires a long time for you to perfect and control.
[30:32]Take it as a theme.
[30:35]I'm going to work on controlling my speech.
[30:37]And honestly, if you f if you fill your whole year trying
[30:40]to perfect this, it might be too little for you.
[30:43]It's not an easy task, but put it as your goal.
[30:48]Every single week or every single month, your goal is to observe
[30:51]yourself throughout the day.
[30:53]Before you speak, practice.
[30:55]I'll delay my speech a little bit just so I can think
[30:59]about every sentence that I'm saying.
[31:00]Analyze it.
[31:01]Is it something that's good to say?
[31:03]Is it something that's not good to say?
[31:05]If it's good, you say it.
[31:07]If it's not then remain silent.
[31:07]Practice this slowly.
[31:10]You'll be you'll grow the habit of controlling your tongue and then
[31:14]it will become much easier as time goes by.
[31:17]We ask Allah subhanaa tala to grant us the ability to control
[31:19]our tongues inshallah and to learn and benefit from the teachings of
[31:23]the imams.
[31:26]Alhamdulillah.
[31:40]Honorbahillah illallah illallah.
[32:25]Allah fell.
[32:30]Um,
