[0:00]foreign oh [Applause] [Applause] i foreign [Applause] foreign [Applause] [Applause] oh [Applause]
[4:15]respected brothers and sisters one of the most important functions of islam
[4:22]as a religion is to guarantee and preserve the human rights and
[4:32]dignity of individuals religion is meant to create a healthy lifestyle a
[4:40]healthy being where everyone their human rights are preserved the rights that
[4:50]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has given them the god given rights and
[4:54]allah subhanahu ta'ala has given us god-given rights the right to live
[4:59]this is a right by allah subhanahu ta'ala the right to live
[5:03]a prosperous and enjoyable life allah has given us that and this
[5:09]is the one of the functions of religion in order to be
[5:27]a religious person you have to have faith do good deeds what's
[5:37]allah and you have to stand for the truth you have to
[5:40]stand for the rights of others unfortunately today many people have disassociated
[5:51]human rights with religion why because some people in the name of
[5:55]religion they carry out atrocities they carry out crimes that show people
[6:02]that human rights are one thing and religion is one thing whereas
[6:05]islam when we look at the roots of islam and the words
[6:10]of rasulallah and the sunnah we see that human rights and islam
[6:17]as a religion are inseparable from one another if i'm a muslim
[6:21]then i have to be a person who upholds the human rights
[6:26]of other people i have to be a person who does not
[6:31]harm and oppress other people one of the greatest forms of injustice
[6:35]is oppression and it is true religion it is islam as a
[6:41]true religion the essence of religion now we're not talking about distorted
[6:45]and twisted religions because there's a lot of beliefs out there that
[6:50]are contradicting to human rights we're talking about islam as its core
[6:55]this the pure islam the islam of rasulallah the islam of the
[7:02]elevate that is an islam that upholds human rights and values because
[7:08]haqq the rights have been provided to us by god al-haqqim and
[7:12]fellaini and allah has given me as a human allah has given
[7:21]rights allah has given different categories within people men women even animals
[7:27]trees the climates there are rights a lot of us don't understand
[7:32]a lot of us don't realize that everything that we interact with
[7:36]has a haqq upon us and here when we look at the
[7:42]life of rasulallah and with the religion of islam came with we
[7:45]see that the religion of islam came with giving people back the
[7:49]rights why was islam such a popular popular religion because it brought
[7:56]back equality and brought back dignity to people it brought back the
[8:00]the dignity and the karma that god has given people one of
[8:07]the one of the qualities of society in that time in pre-islamic
[8:10]times was that they used to bury their daughters a lot there
[8:12]there was an animosity towards women and here islam came in talking
[8:23]about the the burial and the killing of the girl islam came
[8:31]and it created an equal level field where everyone is equal in
[8:39]the eyes of allah today's societies they divide people based on gender
[8:46]based on class based on race based on income islam comes we
[8:58]have created you male and female and made you into nations and
[9:04]tribes so that you get to know one another and allah the
[9:09]closest in the eyes of allah is the one who has the
[9:13]most taqwa so here take it out of your mind because some
[9:17]they have they think that religion is one thing and human rights
[9:21]are another thing no human rights and religion are inseparable from one
[9:26]another and that means being a religious person means that i have
[9:30]to be a person who upholds human rights i have to be
[9:34]a person who stands against injustice stands against economic inequality stands against
[9:38]racial inequality stands against any type of injustice has a beautiful statement
[9:46]he says the sustenance of the poor and the wealth of the
[10:01]wealthy meaning that if i'm rich means i have a duty to
[10:03]help those who are in need he says no poor person goes
[10:14]hungry except that wealth that portion was given to someone else someone
[10:19]who's extremely wealthy and they're just piling more money in their bank
[10:23]account now yes islam allows you to own your own money we're
[10:27]not talking about socialism or communism where you have no right to
[10:33]own anything but there has to be a limit there has to
[10:36]be a limit there has to be a form of zakat a
[10:39]form of charity and giving others and my dear brothers and sisters
[10:41]we see that those who are against the core of islam those
[10:47]who fought the prophets those who fought amir and minion those who
[10:51]fought imam and hussain more than religion it was about the debate
[10:56]and the prophet was standing for justice rasulullah and he tells people
[11:02]the white and the black are all the same in the eyes
[11:06]of god they didn't like that they said no these are our
[11:11]slaves you're coming and you're saying me and my slave are all
[11:13]in the same level we have to sit in the masjid next
[11:16]to one another the white and the black and people from this
[11:18]country and that country we all have to be in one line
[11:22]together they didn't like that and that is why they fought the
[11:26]prophet people after the prophets when you read islamic history you see
[11:30]that after the prophets those who came to power they went back
[11:34]they resorted to the jahili the pre-islamic lifestyle they started differentiating between
[11:39]the arab and the non-arab even within the arabs they started prioritizing
[11:44]quraish over the other arabs they started creating a class system and
[11:48]this kept getting worse and worse and worse until imam ali comes
[11:55]to power imam ali comes to power one of the first thing
[11:58]first things he does is he creates equality and they wage three
[12:03]wars against him three civil wars civil wars were waged in islam
[12:07]not because they didn't imam ali was not the rightful person not
[12:13]because imam ani was doing something no because they wanted they were
[12:17]enjoying the inequality they're all different so for example you're an arab
[12:21]you're a man you're from this tribe you receive this much salary
[12:24]income if you're from a lower and their eyes lower in the
[12:29]eyes of allah we're all the same you receive less one day
[12:32]a lady comes to amir and minion she tells him i think
[12:34]you made a mistake they used to give a weekly or monthly
[12:38]stipend she comes to him and she tells him i think you
[12:40]made a mistake when giving me why he tells her why she
[12:44]said you gave me the same as you gave my servant three
[12:47]dinars and three dinars so he tells her i read the book
[12:53]of allah i didn't see anywhere where it says that the white
[12:55]is better than the black or the arab is better than the
[12:59]non-era go and they became upset some people didn't like the justice
[13:02]some people couldn't stand for the justice now my dear brothers and
[13:06]sisters the reason why we're talking about this is a few days
[13:10]ago on the 25th of muharram we commemorated the martyrdom of imam
[13:14]zayn imam ali now a lot of us when you imagine imam
[13:24]saying you imagine someone who's weak someone who's always crying someone who
[13:29]is always saddened because imam said he's the only surviving son of
[13:33]imam and hussain and he saw the whole calamity in front of
[13:35]him so he spent the rest of his life crying for remember
[13:38]her saying and he has given us the duas and the supplications
[13:42]sometimes we imagine imam jain is someone who is always crying and
[13:49]mourning but imam's in the habit he has left behind such a
[13:56]great legacy in terms of human rights and one of his greatest
[14:02]legacies is a letter that he read that he sent to his
[14:04]companions by the name of the treaties on human rights now my
[14:13]dear brothers and sisters this treaties on human rights was the first
[14:17]of its kind right now when you go to school when you
[14:21]go to college they come and they talk about documents that were
[14:27]written that preserve human rights the first one i remember you all
[14:32]we've all heard about is the magna carta many of you have
[14:35]probably heard of the magna carta the magna carta was written in
[14:38]1215 common era and then you have the english bill of rights
[14:44]in 1689 the french declaration of rights of man and citizen in
[14:49]1789 after the french revolution and then you have the u.s constitution
[14:54]which is also a document on rights that was in 1791 do
[14:59]you know when imam said gave us the resale the treaty's own
[15:05]rights and the year he the year he died was 713.
[15:09]look where islam is look where the leaders of islam and look
[15:13]at where others are and then it's funny today people accuse islam
[15:17]of being a religion that is against human rights you come and
[15:21]you look at this document this document so over over a thousand
[15:24]years in some cases but before before for example the before the
[15:32]u.s constitution imam zayn al-abidin he comes and he he provides us
[15:35]a document on human rights and this tree is this letter he
[15:43]states 50 rights over 50 rights beginning with the right of god
[15:49]god has a right god has a huck secular society they come
[15:54]they give everyone the right the man the woman the animal the
[15:56]climate this all of that everyone has rights but god has no
[15:59]rights is this fair how can we live in a society where
[16:05]we give everyone or we think we're giving everyone rights but we
[16:09]have not given the right of god imam saying he comes and
[16:13]he gives us a holistic approach because sometimes even right now they
[16:16]come and they say oh the woman they have this right or
[16:19]the men have this rights you know this conflict between feminists and
[16:22]and the rights of men and all that sometimes when you give
[16:27]rights to one you might be taking away the rights of another
[16:30]this is why we go to islam we go to rasulallah we
[16:33]go to the quran we see it gives us a holistic approach
[16:38]and this allah this document on human rights was provided for us
[16:43]by imam zayn abedin in a context in a time where human
[16:46]rights were stripped from everyone imagine he kills imam he rules for
[16:55]three years the first year he kills imam and hussain is there
[16:57]anyone greater than imam hussain he comes and he kills him that
[17:00]means no one could speak no one could say anything the grandson
[17:04]of the prophet was butchered in daylight so is anyone greater than
[17:10]hussein so that means he they had no red lines imam is
[17:13]saying the second year after killing imam and hussain you know imam
[17:18]hussain before leaving madinah he left medina and then he goes to
[17:23]mecca and then in medina and in mecca he declares that he's
[17:27]revolting against yazid the people of madina they betrayed him the people
[17:30]of medina did not go out with him the people of mecca
[17:35]they betrayed imam and hussain you know most of the supporters of
[17:38]the hussain were from kufa they were able to escape they were
[17:42]able to escape the the siege that and they joined him and
[17:49]they others they joined from different places the people of madina and
[17:54]mecca refused to be with imam and hussain the next year the
[17:57]next year he killed him saying in year 61 the next year
[18:01]he sent an army to sack the city of madina where they
[18:05]say over 10 000 people in madina were killed he just sent
[18:10]his army and he tells them madina the city of the prophet
[18:12]is halal upon you meaning go and do whatever you want they
[18:16]say it's called they say that after that event over 1 000
[18:22]babies were born and no one knows who their father is imagine
[18:26]in the city of assad the third year the people of mecca
[18:33]they rebel against yazid and yazid he catapults the kaaba he they
[18:37]burn the kaapa and they destroy the wall of the kaaba they
[18:42]catapulted so here if they had stood with imam hussain who was
[18:46]preserving the rights this would all have not happened but they did
[18:50]not stand with him so the context that imam said is giving
[18:54]us this is a very important context where there are no rights
[19:00]society the rulers have stripped away the rights of people and there
[19:06]is economic inequality there's racial inequality there's no social justice and imam
[19:14]zayn in this context he comes and he gives us this beautiful
[19:17]letter inshallah in the second sermon we will explain some of the
[19:21]some of the rights of this allah these treaties on rights by
[19:26]imam zainal abedin which was the first of its kind no no
[19:30]letter before that other than of course the quran which is a
[19:34]book of rights but a document written by a person by a
[19:37]human being that speaks about human rights and human dignity and the
[19:43]rights of people and society and the rights of things rights of
[19:48]everything this was by imam before the magna carta much before the
[19:53]french declaration much before the bill of rights a thousand years before
[20:00]the bill of rights comes and he gives us a document on
[20:02]rights foreign foreign [Music] on and we have to acknowledge that there
[22:19]are rights a person that does not acknowledge that they have obligations
[22:22]and others have rights as a person that is senseless you have
[22:27]to always acknowledge that other people other things anyone that you interact
[22:32]with anyone that you live with has rights there are rules to
[22:37]live by and this is what religion comes with allah we sent
[22:50]our prophets and messengers 124 000 prophets and messengers and we gave
[22:55]them the books and we supported them with the knowledge we supported
[23:00]them with the foundation for what just to tell people go and
[23:03]pray no so that you preserve rights so that the neighbors preserve
[23:07]the night rights of their neighbors so that the family they know
[23:10]the rights of their children the children know the rights of their
[23:13]parents the brothers the siblings the cousins the co-workers whoever you interact
[23:20]with has rights and we need to acknowledge that in a document
[23:28]over 1 000 years ago he comes and he acknowledges rights in
[23:33]a time where society was stripped away from all rights no rights
[23:37]people did not no one no one cared there was no rights
[23:39]the grandson of the prophet he was butchered his rights was taken
[23:45]away from him he was not given a drop of water so
[23:46]here he begins if you want to acknowledge rights of individuals you
[23:52]have to begin by acknowledging the hack of god god has a
[23:55]right upon us god is our creator and god has a haqq
[23:59]upon us all right so he says that you you worship god
[24:16]and do not associate and partner with god this is the right
[24:20]this god deserves that god is the one who created you that
[24:25]is the hub of god if you do that with sincerity if
[24:35]you do that allah will make you where you are not in
[24:40]need of anything in this dunya and in the afterlife and god
[24:46]will preserve for you what you love from this dunya and from
[24:49]so it's a good a good transaction you worship god and no
[24:54]one other than god and god will give you dunya this life
[24:57]and the afterlife is that a fair transaction that's a very fair
[25:00]transaction second he says you as an individual you have a hug
[25:09]the nafs the soul the soul that god has given us has
[25:13]a right you need to give yourself that dignity you need to
[25:17]give yourself that karama allah subhanahu ta'ala has created every single one
[25:21]of us with dignity and in a hadith attributed to god he
[25:29]says i have given my abd my servant the ability to do
[25:32]whatever they want but they have no right to do anything that
[25:37]takes away from their own dignity and quran you can't take away
[25:41]your dignity you have to live a dignified lifestyle this is how
[25:44]god created you and this is what allah wants from you if
[25:54]you want to preserve your right as a your soul then you
[25:58]need to keep yourself connected with god worship allah you want to
[26:04]do justice to yourself then you need to connect yourself to god
[26:08]and then he says and to give your tongue it's right don't
[26:15]don't do something that will get you in trouble as a result
[26:19]of your tongue a lot of the people they end up doing
[26:22]wrong they end up hurting others they end up saying something and
[26:27]they have to pay the price for it as a result of
[26:30]not controlling their tongue so he says the first your nafs your
[26:34]soul and then you're nissan and your ears your hearing as a
[26:40]right does that mean that i should listen to everything out there
[26:43]no i need to control what i listen to and to your
[26:49]vision it has a right should i look at everything out there
[26:53]no there are certain things that are toxic right now do you
[26:56]find someone who says i will eat everything that's out there i
[26:58]go to a restaurant i eat everything no common sense tells us
[27:02]that we have to filter what we eat we have to filter
[27:04]what we consume and same with what we see and what we
[27:10]hear and what we say that also requires filtering your feet have
[27:16]a right you could walk to somewhere like a masjid allah will
[27:19]give you with every step reward and if you walk for example
[27:24]or seeking knowledge allah will give you with every step reward but
[27:27]walking to do something walking to commit a crime this is you
[27:30]taking away the right of your body of your legs your stomach
[27:39]has the rights upon you god has given you the stomach the
[27:44]stomach it helps you grow it helps you nourish it helps send
[27:47]the nutrients to your body place in it that which is a
[27:52]right upon you the private parts have a right upon you and
[27:59]turn to allah in regards to all of these things there's a
[28:05]hadith interesting hadith that says that every day every day your hands
[28:09]and your legs and your skin and your body they speak to
[28:12]you they tell you please please don't do anything wrong because we
[28:17]will pay for the price for it in the afterlife please don't
[28:21]do anything haram with these hands please don't do anything haram with
[28:24]these legs because we end up paying the price so this is
[28:28]and then he moves on the rights of actions there are certain
[28:33]actions one of the most important actions that we all have to
[28:42]perform is the rights upon us it has a hat upon us
[28:50][Music] meaning that you are being you're going you're speaking to allah
[29:04]subhanahu ta'ala and when you are praying don't think you think of
[29:09]yourself that you're coming and you're standing here and wherever you are
[29:14]whichever environment when you're praying he says consider yourself standing before god
[29:19]how would if you know just changing the mind shift having a
[29:23]mind shift it will it will help you focus in your prayer
[29:28]when you're praying stand as if you're the only person and god
[29:33]is there imagine yourself on the day of judgment you're standing before
[29:37]god if we have that our salah will be very different so
[29:39]he says there's a hack of salah give it it's right there's
[29:42]a hadith that says on the day of judgment your salah it
[29:47]will come to you in a view in a physical vision it
[29:52]will come in a physical form we will see the embodiment of
[29:58]our actions whether it's good or it's bad if your salah you
[30:00]took care of it you preserved it this allah is going to
[30:04]come and hold your hand and take you to paradise because you
[30:07]preserve that salah and the hadith says that the person who did
[30:10]pray but they did not care for their prayer they did not
[30:15]pay attention they were not aware they didn't see it as a
[30:16]relationship as a language as something that brings them to allah subhanahu
[30:22]ta'ala the salah will come and it will tell the person you
[30:29]did not care for me then therefore i cannot help you now
[30:33]i cannot support you now so here you have to give your
[30:38]prayer that's right that's the first and then he says he says
[30:53]if you know that then the way that you stand in front
[30:56]of god is going to be very different you're going to be
[31:00]more humble in your prayer you're going to pray the prayer of
[31:03]khashogg and then the imam lists many of the actions the right
[31:06]of the hajj hajj has a right upon me have i gone
[31:09]to hajj have i given it it's right the right of the
[31:13]fasting and the month of ramadan the right of charity the right
[31:15]of offering and then he moves on to the right of subjects
[31:19]so the right of your imam the rights of the people who
[31:25]are in authority of course the righteous people the rights of the
[31:28]one who teaches you your teacher the right of the husband the
[31:31]rights of the wife the rights of the father the rights of
[31:36]the you know anyone that you've shared why do they call salat
[31:38]rahim why is it called it's the womb means of the mother
[31:45]that's that's called is one of the most important obligations in islam
[31:55]and breaking off the relationship that is a a blood relative that
[32:00]is one of the greatest sins in islam breaking off a relationship
[32:03]with a family member a blood relative why is it called because
[32:09]at one point in time you were in a womb with this
[32:14]person go back several decades several centuries you go back to one
[32:18]womb with this person that's why it's called and even if you
[32:22]have a disagreement with someone who is a blood relative you should
[32:26]not escalate it to become worse where you do not talk to
[32:29]one another and you should not be the one that disconnects because
[32:36]and the hadith says that is connected with the mercy of allah
[32:42]if someone disconnects with their family then allah will disconnect this person
[32:48]from his own mercy so you want the mercy of god to
[32:53]be continuous showering upon you then do not be the one who
[32:55]disconnects one of the rights the beautiful rights that the imam mentions
[33:00]is the rights of the mother imagine a thousand years ago the
[33:06]imam is telling people about the rights of the mother now imam
[33:10]when he was born his mother passed away as soon as giving
[33:14]birthday she died in her nephes right after giving birth to him
[33:21]she died there was a caretaker a lady that used to take
[33:26]it is said that he used to he used to say i'm
[33:31]embarrassed to sit on the same table and eat with her it
[33:35]says it to my mother because she was like a mother to
[33:40]him why are you embarrassed to sit on the same table and
[33:42]eat with your mother he says because i'm afraid she has her
[33:46]eyes on something and my hands go to it before so she
[33:49]has her eyes on something he says i don't want to put
[33:53]myself in that situation where she might want to she desires something
[33:57]and i will reach my hand out for that first look how
[34:03]imaginative speaks of the lady that raised him and look at how
[34:06]some people treat their mothers today their biological mothers the mother that
[34:10]raised you the mother that couldn't sleep because of you the mother
[34:12]that went through so much they come and they fight over food
[34:18]they fight over silly things with their parents he says as your
[34:22]mother the right of your mother know that she carried you in
[34:34]a way that no one carries any other person who's willing to
[34:39]carry a person for nine months in their womb where it disturbs
[34:43]your sleep it disturbs your life it disturbs your wa your body
[34:49]the most beautiful thing for a lady is her body her looks
[34:52]she comes and she changes that she sacrifices that for your sake
[34:56]no one else is willing to do that he says and she
[35:05]gave you from her heart from the love of her heart in
[35:09]a way that no one gives anyone else and she gave you
[35:24]in a way where she would go hungry so that you are
[35:29]full she would be she would not have what she wants for
[35:32]your sake so that you have if you're thirsty if you're hungry

[37:14]treaties of rights he came and he changed society he educated people
[37:20]in a circumstance and were taken away from people he offered us
[37:24]this legacy we were taken away from them this is the injustice
[37:27]that the muslims committed against the family of the prophets respected brothers
[38:00]and sisters tomorrow at 6 00 p.m we have a youth modulus
[38:05]so this is a medjlist run by the youth for the youth
