[0:09]ald Muhammad the religion of Islam is a religion of life and
[0:47]as a religion of life that means that the religion would have
[0:54]to be a social religion some people have the idea that religion
[1:02]is just a system that connects a person with spirituality that connects
[1:09]a person with their lord Islam does that but in addition to
[1:15]spirituality Islam as a religion focuses on relationships that we have in
[1:24]life we have social relationships we have moral duties we have ethical
[1:34]responsibilities and as a religion Islam focuses on these relationships and in
[1:39]order to define the religiosity of a person we don't only look
[1:43]at their spiritual Dimension but we look at the social Dimension we
[1:49]look at how this person is as a human being and that
[1:52]is what makes you a religious person so from the Islamic perspective
[1:59]we have duties and responsibilities towards Allah subhana wa tala that's known
[2:05]but we also have duties and responsibilities towards our neighbors towards our
[2:12]friends towards our co-workers towards our relatives and towards our family these
[2:20]are duties that shape whether we fulfill these duties or not it
[2:24]shapes whether we are truly religious or not so this this is
[2:30]the beauty of the religion of Islam it's a religion of life
[2:33]it's a system that teaches us to be spiritually comfortable and socially
[2:42]at peace with others around us if you find someone who they
[2:45]just pray but they don't have good relations with those who are
[2:48]close to them then there's a problem with this person's religiosity so
[2:55]as a we see that the religion of Islam focuses on relationships
[3:01]social relationships because we human beings we are social beings Allah subhana
[3:08]wa ta'ala created us as social beings so therefore we have rules
[3:12]of interaction how we socialize with one another we are in need
[3:15]of it today you see a lot of people during the pandemic
[3:20]because a lot of people are home most of the time they're
[3:23]they're not feeling comfortable because they have not seen their friends they
[3:28]have not seen and connected with with their relatives with their friends
[3:32]social Gatherings are not the same as they used to be so
[3:37]this is affecting people's mental well-being it's affecting the people's psychological and
[3:43]perhaps even spiritual well-being so we see that Islam is a religion
[3:49]it constantly reminds us to show love to those who are around
[3:57]us and one of the categories and groups of people who we
[4:01]have a major responsibility and obligation towards them are our family our
[4:08]relatives your parents your children your grandparents your uncles your siblings those
[4:17]who are around you you have a religious obligation towards them now
[4:21]some people they come and they say no my religious obligation is
[4:26]when I go to the Masjid when I pray when I fast
[4:27]when I wear my hijab but it doesn't matter how I interact
[4:31]with this person and that person here and there even if they're
[4:33]my relatives no this is a wrong approach towards religiosity your religion
[4:41]is defined by your manners and the way you treat those who
[4:45]are close to you whether it's a husband towards the wife the
[4:49]wife towards the husband the children towards the parents your relatives here
[4:54]and there and some people they miss out on that opportunity some
[5:02]people they don't fulfill their duties and responsibilities towards those who are
[5:06]close to them I've seen this many times many times you see
[5:12]individuals who when you look at them you see they're very religious
[5:15]but then once they start talking to you they'll start telling you
[5:18]oh I don't talk to my brother I don't talk to my
[5:22]sister I haven't talked to my parents my uncle this and that
[5:27]my niece my nephew my cousin here and there you see that
[5:30]there are many problems within the family and families are falling apart
[5:36]and Islam here it says no this is a red line family
[5:40]is a red line because it's through family that you get closer
[5:44]to Allah subhana wa taala through your family you will be able
[5:49]to attain a higher level of religiosity he says he says that
[5:59]the the M the the believer ver who is married their faith
[6:04]is halfway complete through marriage you you you guarantee half of your
[6:12]faith why does say this just to you know just for the
[6:15]heck of it no because marriage forms a family and family is
[6:23]your first point of immunity your family is your protection today a
[6:27]lot of people that are doing wrong a lot of people that
[6:32]are doing you see that a major group of them is because
[6:40]the family is broken or there is no family to come and
[6:47]persuade them to stop to to do in joining the good and
[6:49]forbidding the evil when a family is broken you will find that
[6:51]Society will be broken so this is why in order to protect
[6:57]your identity in order to protect your religiosity order to protect your
[7:01]spirituality you need to focus on your family but we see that
[7:09]family especially in this Society in the western mindset there's not so
[7:14]much focus on family as much as the Eastern mindset now yes
[7:20]the Eastern mindset is focused a lot on cultural aspects and it
[7:25]might perhaps the intentions are not even 100% pure but because the
[7:29]culture imposes family family so it it's kind of a good thing
[7:32]here you don't have that you don't have the cultural pressures enforcing
[7:38]family values because there's Freedom as soon as someone's 18 they leave
[7:43]the house and they start calling their father and their mother by
[7:47]their name and there's you don't find that you find some families
[7:51]the only time they get together is when Thanksgiving that's the time
[7:55]they get together and that's why for Middle easterners for Muslims Thanksgiving
[8:01]is not that big of a deal because we get together every
[8:06]week like that so we get together we have these feasts every
[8:10]week but you have your you know some of the non-muslim or
[8:17]non Middle Eastern and Eastern friends they say oh we we got
[8:20]we got together and the whole family got together I'm like you
[8:22]know our family gets together like that all the time what's so
[8:28]what's so weird about that so our cultures the the Middle Eastern
[8:35]and Eastern cultures focus on Family Values which is a good thing
[8:41]but you also find even today you find some who have no
[8:47]family get togethers theyve broken bonds with their families and many times
[8:53]you see that people they regret the way they had their relationship
[8:57]with their family after they've lost lost that loved one I've seen
[9:02]many times a young man or a young daughter they're crying when
[9:08]when they're attending the funeral of their parents when they're burying their
[9:11]parents when that relationship is gone that's the time that they come
[9:18]and they say only if I took advantage of this relationship only
[9:21]if I cherished this bond that I had with my family this
[9:28]bond that Allah subhah wa ta'ala tells me it's a bless bling
[9:31]in my life Allah subhana wa tala says in the Quran that
[9:34]families and the fact that we have been created a social beings
[9:39]and we gather with one another and we feel comfortable and we
[9:42]socialize with one another this is one of the signs of Allah
[9:48]subhana wa tala one of the ayat of Allah Allah talks in
[9:52]the Quran this and the from amongst the signs of Allah the
[9:57]creation of the and all [Applause] and from amongst the signs of
[10:12]Allah is that he created you in pairs he created the male
[10:15]and the female now today some people they'll come and they'll tell
[10:19]you what's male and female Let's Get Married let you know let
[10:22]two men get married and two women get married but this is
[10:26]one of the signs of Allah where common sense says you know
[10:30]everything Allah has created in two genders two Sexes so that that
[10:34]is the way of reproduction that is the common sense that is
[10:40]the way that Society lives with one another and grows with one
[10:43]another this is amongst the signs of Allah subhah wa tala in
[10:46]another verse Allah subhana waa says in the Quran Allah says in
[11:07]the Quran in verse 72 God created for you from amongst yourselves
[11:16]spouses Allah created you in in pairs this is from the signs
[11:22]of Allah subhana wa tala and from your spouses Allah gave you
[11:30]children and grandchildren and gave you the risk the Halal sustenance from
[11:38]the from the and the good but some people they want to
[11:49]reject the signs of Allah and go towards the go towards the
[11:54]false and and reject the of Allah so here Allah subhana tala
[11:59]says that your family is a your family is a blessing now
[12:05]do you appreciate that family do you appreciate the family that you're
[12:09]in you find a lot of people they don't appreciate the time
[12:15]that they begin to appreciate is after the family is broken apart
[12:18]after you lose the that's when you will realize the blessing of
[12:23]that let us not be in that category my dear brothers and
[12:28]sisters if you have members and your family your the wife and
[12:33]the husband and the children and the parents appreciate show them appreciation
[12:39]sometimes it just takes a small gesture to show thanks one act
[12:46]of thank you one sometimes that's enough that thank you that smile
[12:54]that does magic in the house one of the reasons one of
[12:57]the major reasons why families break apart is is that there's no
[13:00]appreciation there's no appreciation and when you don't appreciate that means you're
[13:08]not acknowledging that these individuals in your life they're a blessing from
[13:13]Allah subhah wa ta'ala to you but once you realize that they're
[13:16]a blessing to you then you start appreciating them then you start
[13:20]showing appreciation and once you start showing appreciation then the relationships will
[13:25]grow stronger and the bond will grow much stronger so Islam as
[13:30]a religion does not only focus on our Salah and our zakat
[13:35]and our Haj no Islam says one of the most important and
[13:38]sacred duties that we all have is connection and bond within the
[13:46]family this is what it's called means connection and means the womb
[13:52]they call the womb of a lady why because your family those
[14:00]who you share blood with you've shared a womb with them at
[14:03]one point in time so this is why Islam says be connected
[14:12]with the your parents your siblings your uncles aunts cousins grandparents you've
[14:17]shared blood with them so now you have a duty towards them
[14:23]and Allah subhanahu wa taal tells us to take care of our
[14:30]duties towards our family is W it's important to be connected with
[14:38]the family and more importantly disconnecting with the family is one of
[14:45]the major sins now someone says okay I have a family I
[14:48]have a relative we don't we're not disconnected with them but I
[14:53]see them I say Salam here and there I send them a
[14:55]WhatsApp forward every once in a while there's nothing wrong with that
[14:59]what becomes Haram is if you disconnect the the relationship when you
[15:06]say no I'm disconnected with this person I don't want to talk
[15:10]to this person I hate this person if you say that that
[15:16]is called and that is har and in three separate verses in
[15:19]the Quran the person who does the person who breaks the bond
[15:26]this person is cursed in the Quran three separate times the person
[15:30]who disconnects will not enter into Paradise this person is cursed by
[15:35]Allah subhah wa ta'ala where Allah subhana T says in the Quran
[15:55]those who disconnect the Covenant that they have with Allah regarding believing
[16:01]in God and disconnect the what Allah subhana T has told them
[16:07]to be connected with and that is the family second another verse
[16:11]in the Quran those who are blind and those who Allah subhana
[16:29]wa tala has cursed they are the ones who carry out facade
[16:33]corruption in the land and they disconnect the bonds with their family
[16:39]another verse a third verse what I I I guess this is
[16:53]this is oh this is a separate another verse this is the
[17:05]similar to the first verse the ending is a little bit different
[17:08]three times you see that the one who disconnects with their family
[17:15]is disconnected with Allah brothers and sisters from an Islamic standpoint we
[17:22]have a duty towards our family we have a duty towards our
[17:26]loved ones a man IM he says a man from a tribe
[17:37]by the name of came to and he tells him tell me
[17:46]what is the best form of Islam what should I do to
[17:49]be a good Muslim tells him faith in God having faith in
[17:59]God that's the key ingredient towards being a good Muslim and then
[18:05]he tells him and then what so tells him be connected with
[18:12]your be a good Muslim do your duties pray connect with God
[18:16]and connect with your family that's all that Islam expects from you
[18:23]that's what Islam as a religion expects from us so we have
[18:26]to be connected with our family now this is is one point
[18:34]then you find another more specific insistence on being connected with your
[18:39]parents first there's a general order this includes all of your family
[18:44]anyone who you've shared with but then you have a specific order
[18:52]towards your parents why does the Quran keep reminding us your parents
[19:05]why does the Quran keep saying this because this is our weak
[19:10]point some people that's their weak point some people that is their
[19:14]test you want to know how God is testing you in this
[19:18]life Allah is perhaps not testing you with Salah because you pray
[19:21]and you might even pray Sal maybe Allah is not testing you
[19:24]with zakat because you give zakat and and you're very generous Maybe
[19:30]Allah is testing you with this when your parents are old when
[19:34]your parents are nagging when your parents are in need and they're
[19:37]telling you do this and do that and do this and do
[19:41]that some people that's their trigger point that's what that's what brings
[19:45]them away that's a test this is why Allah subhana wa tala
[19:49]clearly says in the Quran your lord has decreed that you don't
[19:58]worship anyone other than God and the immediate order is to showan
[20:05]to show good towards your parents Allah acknowledges this that when they
[20:19]get older they're going to start nagging they're going to start probably
[20:23]bothering you this why Allah says when they're older there don't even
[20:29]say o to them you know sometimes when you get an order
[20:34]do this and do that some people they say do I have
[20:38]to do that the Quran says this is the book of Mercy
[20:40]where the Quran 1,400 years ago it comes and says don't even
[20:47]say of to them IM he says if there was anything less
[20:49]than the of the Quran would have mentioned it some people they
[20:54]go a lot more some people they start using bad words some
[20:57]people they start talking back some people start becoming abusive towards their
[21:02]parents the Quran says don't even say o to them this of
[21:06]sometimes you might not even be saying it to them you might
[21:10]be saying it to yourself they'll tell you you know go do
[21:11]this and you just go do it and you say this is
[21:15]the beauty of Islam my dear brothers and sisters let us cherish
[21:21]this religion that teaches us to focus on our relationship with our
[21:25]parents the path to Paradise is to through pleasing your parents and
[21:31]the highest ranks in Paradise are for those who please their parents
[21:38]one day Prophet M he asked Allah M was he tells him
[21:46]show me my neighbor in Paradise who's my neighbor in Paradise Allah
[21:50]subhah wa tala tells him there's this man in this Village and
[21:53]this town you go and you see him that's your neighbor in
[21:57]Paradise so M he left his town he goes in search of
[22:01]the person who's going to be at the same level with Prophet
[22:03]Musa he goes and he sees this is a simple man this
[22:09]is a butcher so that man doesn't know that this is Prophet
[22:13]Musa Prophet Musa tells him I want to stay with you for
[22:17]the night why because he wants to see what is this person
[22:20]doing that's making him be at the same level with Prophet Musa
[22:23]the prophet that is mentioned over 200 times in the Quran the
[22:29]prophet that sacrificed and struggled so much he goes and he sees
[22:34]this person he's not doing anything special is he praying is he
[22:37]a muah is he what is he doing he sees nothing special
[22:42]about this person in the morning he sees that that man he
[22:45]goes and he Slaughters his sheep and then he goes into a
[22:50]room in the house and then he comes back he comes out
[22:52]about 15 20 minutes later a while later he tells him wait
[22:58]wait a second what did did you do who's in that room
[23:00]he tells him my mother is in that room he says what's
[23:04]wrong with your mother he tells him my mother is disabled she's
[23:07]not able to eat so I go and I sit with her
[23:11]I take care of her I feed her with myself I feed
[23:14]her and then he tells him when you feed your mother what
[23:20]does she say he says every bite that I place in the
[23:22]mouth of my mother my mother she says oh Allah make my
[23:28]son be the neighbor of prophet Musa Allah M he tells him
[23:34]I am Prophet M and your Dua is accepted the Dua of
[23:40]your mother is accepted because of your service towards your mother this
[23:47]is why this is why the Hadith says Paradise is beneath the
[23:54]feet of your mother that means that you have to make sure
[23:57]you please your mother now we have a duty towards the father
[24:04]as well and there is also a very important duty with regards
[24:07]to family of taking care of your family meaning that if you're
[24:13]on the right path if you're doing something good make sure you
[24:17]want that good thing for your family as well and Allah says
[24:19]in the Quran oh you people who believe protect yourselves and protect
[24:34]your families from the Hellfire many families they came and they immigrated
[24:39]to the United States in pursuit of opportunities and pursuit of money
[24:44]and pursuit of wealth and here they got the wealth they were
[24:50]looking for but they missed their family they lost their family that's
[24:53]it their family don't know Quran anymore their family don't know Salah
[24:57]anymore their family don't know anything about the religion of Islam Allah
[25:03]says in the Quran don't go to paradise alone if you go
[25:09]to take as many people as you want with you and we
[25:12]see that the struggle with the family is a struggle that the
[25:16]prophets of Allah have all had Prophet Adam he had a struggle
[25:19]with his family his sons one of them killed the other Prophet
[25:26]ibraim Prophet no Prophet Musa Prophet Isa all of the prophets and
[25:32]even he witnessed his family being persecuted and oppressed and that is
[25:41]the what brings sadness to Al and the the Muslims they are
[25:48]all tested by showing love to their own family and to the
[25:55]family of inshallah in the coming weeks we will talk more about
[25:59]the family we have begun a series on the family and inshallah
[26:06]we will talk more about these subjects
