[0:00]Respected brothers and sisters, Ramadan Mubarak to you all.
[0:15]I congratulate you on this blessed month of Ramadan.
[0:17]May the blessings, serenity and peace of this month fall upon you
[0:21]and your families.
[0:23]This will be a month of learning, of spiritual progression and inshallah
[0:28]good food.
[0:32]You know, all the good stuff.
[0:35]We will begin after.
[0:48]Alhamdulillah.
[1:03]I begin in his name, the beneficent, the merciful, the one who
[1:09]has created everything in utmost perfection.
[1:12]And may his peace and blessings fall upon his greatest messenger Muhammad
[1:20]>> and upon his pure and immaculate progeny.
[1:28]Andreas Christopherus was a young man living in the United Kingdom.
[1:35]By all accounts, you could call him an average bloke, right?
[1:42]He's young, recently had gotten married.
[1:45]He had a threeyear-old beautiful son.
[1:48]You know, he's living what would, I guess, be called the British
[1:54]dream, but maybe minus the beans on toast.
[1:56]He's sitting at home one day and at a very unexpected hour
[2:00]someone knocks on the door.
[2:01]He's not anticipating any guests.
[2:05]So he goes up.
[2:06]He opens the door and he's greeted with burning acid attack.
[2:16]He immediately needs to be transferred to the closest trauma hospital and
[2:25]after days of debilitating treatment he has over 95% scar tissue on
[2:33]his face.
[2:31]What happened?
[2:35]The perpetrator, the antagonist here had some personal beef with one of
[2:44]his neighbors.
[2:42]So he decided to take matters into his own hand.
[2:47]He wanted to take revenge.
[2:49]He conjured up some acid, right?
[2:53]Burning acid in his home, his home lab.
[2:55]And he went and drove over an hour and a half to
[2:57]commit this crime.
[2:58]But at the last second, he messed up the address.
[3:01]And he threw the burning acid on the guy's neighbor, the guy
[3:04]who had beef with.
[3:07]So this poor guy just living, you know, living life, doing his
[3:10]best, striving just like me and you.
[3:12]He opens the door one day and his life changes.
[3:15]He spends most of the rest of his days in treatment.
[3:20]And the treatment for a devastating acid attack is just as painful
[3:27]as the attack itself.
[3:27]Now, in an interview with the BBC, he mentions that the attack
[3:36]itself was really, really painful.
[3:39]Imagine feeling literally your skin burning, your skin falling off.
[3:43]You can go search his name.
[3:44]Look at his pictures of him.
[3:46]The pictures you'll find are line are after treatment.
[3:50]That's after everything you know the medical field could do in order
[3:55]to help him.
[3:57]And even then you'll find that his skin is sagging, right?
[3:59]It's burning.
[4:00]It's peeling literally off his face.
[4:04]He says, you know, the treatment was really bad, was really painful.
[4:10]The person interviewing him said, "Was the treatment really the worst part
[4:15]of everything you've endured?" He says, "No." He says, "Even though the
[4:21]attack itself was really bad." He says, "The treatment was much worse,
[4:23]but that's not the worst part." So the interview said, "What was
[4:29]the worst part of your experience?" This is a couple months after
[4:34]the attack.
[4:33]He says, "Is it the fact that you've lost anonymity?
[4:39]When Andreas walks around, he's no longer old Andreas who can blend
[4:46]in.
[4:45]Now, whenever he walks around, you know, kids are looking at him.
[4:50]He doesn't have a very normal face and of no fault of
[4:52]himself.
[4:55]True, his asalent got 14 years in prison, but is his old
[5:01]life going to come back?
[5:03]He says, "No.
[5:05]Although I do like the feeling of blending in with the crowd,
[5:07]just doing my own thing.
[5:10]I don't like people staring at me.
[5:12]That's not that's not the worst part of this whole ordeal.
[5:14]So they ask him, "What is it?
[5:18]Is it perhaps the fact that your life has been affected because
[5:23]now you're still married, but your wife now has to deal with
[5:27]this this mess, right?
[5:30]And she is at no fault.
[5:32]She married Andreas three years ago, but now she sees someone else.
[5:36]He says, "No, that's not the worst part." He says, "Thank God
[5:40]I have a very loving and understanding wife.
[5:43]We're still together.
[5:43]She was with me through thick and thin, and I'll be with
[5:46]her through thick and thin." He says, "That's not the worst part."
[5:49]So the interview, he says, "All right, Andreas, what was the worst
[5:53]part of the whole experience past couple months?" He looks at him
[5:58]and he says, "My eyelids." like what?
[6:02]It's like my eyelids.
[6:04]Says your eyelids does that have to do with anything?
[6:08]He says, "Look, you've had eyelids since birth.
[6:12]You don't know the privilege of having eyelids.
[6:15]During the attack, my eyelids burned off.
[6:19]I don't have eyelids." So, he can't blink.
[6:24]He can blink, but there's nothing in between.
[6:25]He won't cover his eyes.
[6:28]So the interview is he's a bit confused.
[6:30]He says, "Okay, I understand that, but why is this the worst
[6:34]part of your whole ordeal?" He says, "Anytime I exit my house,
[6:42]I walk into a new room, someone turns on the light, any
[6:47]fluctuation, even the simplest, it burns my eyes." He says, "I never
[6:52]noticed this until now." When you're healthy and you have normal eyelids,
[6:58]all this fluctuation in light that would be bothersome and irksome to
[7:02]your eyes, subhan Allah, the eyelids just take care of it automatically.
[7:07]You don't even notice.
[7:07]But Andreas, his eyelids have burned off.
[7:12]And so he experiences excruciating pain anytime he goes out, anytime the
[7:18]light is adjusted.
[7:20]He says, and this happens thousands of times every single day, and
[7:23]there's no way to stop it.
[7:24]I can try wearing sunglasses, but that only helps a little bit.
[7:28]He says, this has been the most excruciating part of my journey.
[7:32]And he says, I have never been so thankful as I have
[7:37]now.
[7:38]While my struggles were terrible, I've come to realize that I have
[7:42]been endowed with so many blessings.
[7:45]My dear brothers and sisters, we have so many blessings to thank
[7:50]Allahel for.
[7:51]But has it ever occurred to you?
[7:53]Has it ever occurred to me to thank Allahawel for your eyelids?
[7:58]Sometimes we mention the blessing of sight, being able to see, enjoy
[8:06]the natural wonder of the universe.
[8:08]But has it ever occurred to you to thank Allahel for the
[8:13]blessing of eyelids?
[8:14]If you want to start writing down and counting all the blessings
[8:21]Allahel has bestowed upon you and me, you will never run out
[8:25]of ink.
[8:28]My dear brothers and sisters, one of the greatest blessings Allahel has
[8:34]given us is this blessed month of Ramadan.
[8:36]This is a month where the angels are gravitated towards malis like
[8:44]this.
[8:45]This is a month where Allahel's mercy is unending and limitless.
[8:53]There are two specific ways in which Allahel extends his mercy upon
[8:59]us his servants through the month of Shah Ramadan.
[9:02]The first is a hadith from Im peace be upon him in
[9:07]which he states Subhan Allah.
[9:18]Whoever says subhan all and whoever says subhan allah will write for
[9:28]this person will write for him or her 3,000 rewards and he
[9:36]will omit from your record 3,000 sins and he will elevate your
[9:46]status.
[9:47]This 3,000 ranks Ramadan is a month of is a month where
[9:55]we remember allahel in this blessed month.
[9:57]Every that you do is just piles and piles and piles of
[10:00]reward and piles of sins being erased.
[10:05]This is a wonderful blessing of allahel in the month of Ramadan.
[10:11]Your nights are and your days are also your breaths during the
[10:20]day count as worship.
[10:23]This is if you're fasting and when you sleep at night your
[10:30]sleep also counts towards because you're conserving your energy to fast and
[10:35]do the next day.
[10:36]Every moment spent either in sleep or just going about your daily
[10:43]life breathing this all counts as in the month of Ramadan.
[10:46]This is the abundant blessings that Allahel has blessed us with.
[10:53]The second manner in which Allahel has extended his divine grace and
[11:03]mercy is that the avowed enemy of Allahel the devils in this
[11:09]holy month are locked and inshallah tonight we'll discuss some aspects of
[11:13]the narrations regarding this topic regarding the devils being locked what exactly
[11:19]does that mean is the devil really harmless is he really chained
[11:25]Is he in some Abu style prison waiting to be released after
[11:31]Eid?
[11:30]What exactly do the hadith that we have mean in this regards?
[11:37]The human being, my dear brothers and sisters, has two enemies.
[11:41]We have El Shan, the eternal enemy of mankind.
[11:48]We also have the nef the ego.
[11:53]The way the system of the axis of evil we can call
[11:58]it that the way the system works is that shaitan knows for
[12:03]a believer he's not strong enough to overcome and misguide a believer.
[12:11]So what does he do?
[12:11]He teams up with the nefs with the ego in order to
[12:17]take you down.
[12:19]In one hadith from Im peace be upon him, this narration says
[12:25]another he says looking at that which Allah has not permitted you
[12:36]to look at.
[12:38]This is a arrow from the devil.
[12:41]Allah subhana t has endowed us with desires with shah with with
[12:50]intellect and with the ego with the nefs.
[12:52]The nefs sometimes is dormant.
[12:54]It has those desires but they're dormant.
[12:57]The shan comes and he begins instigating and his method of instigating
[13:01]is through the whispers.
[13:03]us.
[13:04]He whispers, he instigates the nefs.
[13:07]And these two they collude against you to guide you towards.
[13:11]And one example is this hadith that Imam mentions the he tells
[13:19]Allah.
[13:22]His goal ever since he was kicked out of the garden of
[13:25]Eden is to misguide every single one of us.
[13:28]But he can't do it alone.
[13:29]He needs to team up with the nevs.
[13:33]And although he does not have direct control, his whispers are powerful.
[13:39]Therefore, we recite in the holy Quran.
[13:51]Allah commands the prophet even you oh prophet the person of utmost
[14:00]character with the greatest even you have to seek refuge froml and
[14:06]what about us yes he cannot exercise direct control over us but
[14:12]those whispers in the innermost recesses of our hearts they're very powerful
[14:17]thus Allah commands even you oh prophet seek refuge from the holy
[14:27]devil.
[14:24]In the month of Ramadan, we have a from that states the
[14:31]following.
[14:32]He says as for this blessed month of Ramadan each one of
[14:45]these and we'll discuss in a moment what is the each one
[14:49]of these devils Allah has sent upon him seven angels to guard
[14:54]so that he cannot go about whispering go about misguiding ben Adam
[15:00]This is one of the privileges of Shah Ramadan.
[15:04]But one question my dear brothers and sisters, if that is the
[15:08]case, if Shayan is locked up, then why is it that we
[15:10]still see many people continuing to commit sins?
[15:14]Why is it that earth is not a utopia from February 20
[15:21]to March 20 or 19 to 19 depending on who you follow?
[15:29]I don't know.
[15:27]Who doesan follow?
[15:30]Allah.
[15:32]Why is it that the sins of believers do not fully seize
[15:38]during the month of Shah Ramadan?
[15:41]Number one, we have to understand what are the tactics of Shaitan.
[15:46]The most powerful and the only power that Shaitan has is that
[15:55]whisper.
[15:54]Shan does not have the authority.
[15:58]He does not have the power.
[15:59]He has not been granted by Allah the power to take control
[16:03]of us.
[16:04]There was a brother who had recently gotten married and you know
[16:10]the spouse his spouse and their family thought that this was a
[16:12]very good brother.
[16:13]They had done their research and they were content with his with
[16:16]his character.
[16:17]But then right after marriage they started noticing weird things.
[16:20]You know he wasn't always on his best behavior in the house
[16:25]wasn't always offering the best of treatment to his wife.
[16:27]Then a while later they noticed he would just disappear at night.
[16:33]They would follow up.
[16:33]They would discover he's spending his nights at the local nightclub.
[16:37]So when they would go to confront this brother, you know what
[16:41]are you doing?
[16:41]Why have you come here?
[16:44]He says, you know what, you know got the best of me.
[16:50]He took control of me.
[16:50]He apologizes.
[16:51]You know, they ask him to repent.
[16:54]He repents publicly in front of the family.
[16:56]Next week they find him again at the nightclub.
[16:57]They go, they approach himani, I I couldn't.
[17:02]Yes, the shaitan can whisper.
[17:05]He can put those evil thoughts in your heart.
[17:09]But he cannot control you.
[17:10]Allah has not given the shaitan the authority to take control of
[17:14]us.
[17:19]What does the shaitan himself say in the holy Quran?
[17:28]After we are done with this duny and we meet that final
[17:34]test where we our are placed on the scales, he looks at
[17:39]all those people he misguided and he says I had no sultan.
[17:41]I had no power over you.
[17:47]The only thing I could do was I could invite you.
[17:50]Invite you to evil and you answered.
[17:53]I invited you to my cause, which is the cause of mischief,
[17:59]of deception, of evil, and you answered.
[18:02]Don't blame me.
[18:04]You can't tell Allah he forced me.
[18:05]I didn't.
[18:07]Only you have yourself to blame.
[18:10]This is the words ofan on the day of judgment.
[18:17]So this is the only power that shaitan has and according to
[18:24]some narrations he is prevented from doing this.
[18:26]So why is it that we still see some people sinning?
[18:28]One opinion by a segment of scholars is that these narrations are
[18:36]not talking about every single shaitan.
[18:38]Look at this narration that says Allah himself commands the archangel Gabriel.
[18:56]Oh archangel Gabriel, go down onto this earth and shackle the hands
[19:04]of the marada of the devils so that they may not invoke
[19:07]chaos for those believers who are fasting.
[19:11]Some scholars have said the in this verse is not all devils.
[19:17]There are categories of devils.
[19:19]the according to this group of scholars, they're the higherups, the generals,
[19:25]you know, the hulk, you know, the the minions, the, you know,
[19:32]the the level one robbers, the level one, they're not shackled.
[19:35]They're still out there.
[19:38]But these higherups, these powerful devils, these are the ones that are
[19:44]shackled.
[19:41]Therefore, you will notice there is less desire to go towards evil,
[19:47]but it still does exist because of those other types of devils.
[19:52]Another opinion by some group of our scholars originates from this hadith
[19:59]from our great scholar.
[20:00]He says the is telling his companions would you like me to
[20:13]inform you something if you follow it will be distant from you.
[20:20]So they say yes of course.
[20:20]What is itan will be as distant from you as east is
[20:29]distant from west.
[20:32]They say yes.
[20:32]And then he said fasting.
[20:35]Some scholars have pointed to this and said that this other narration
[20:40]that the shackles of the devils are complete.
[20:45]This is only in regards to those who fast.
[20:48]If you want this divine privilege of having distance between you and
[20:52]the you have to engage in fasting.
[20:54]If you are consistent with your fasting, then the devils will be
[21:00]far away.
[20:59]Because real fasting is not just fasting of the stomach.
[21:03]That's part of it.
[21:06]It's fasting of the tongue.
[21:08]Being careful with what you say.
[21:09]My dear brothers and sisters, sometimes we can say certain things that
[21:13]will invalidate our fast.
[21:15]One example, if you attribute something false to Allahel or his prophet
[21:22]or the imams, this will invalidate your salah, invalidate your fasting.
[21:27]There is also fasting of the heart, fasting of the eyes.
[21:36]If you follow fasting in its complete attributes then yes this privilege
[21:42]of being distant from the devils will apply.
[21:48]Another group of scholars have said regardless of whether it's all devils,
[21:53]some devils, we still see people committing sin.
[22:01]And part of that is because of like we mentioned earlier, the
[22:06]devil teams up with the ego, with the self in order to
[22:08]guide you to mischief.
[22:11]Every human being has two wells.
[22:16]We have a well of potential positivity guiding you to good and
[22:19]we have that within our innermost recesses that well of negativity guiding
[22:23]you to evil that still exists during Ramadan and that will continue
[22:28]to guide you towards evil and you have to resist and fasting
[22:33]and and prayer and spending the night in worship helps you in
[22:39]resisting yourself helps you in resisting the lastly Some scholars have said
[22:47]one reason is that if we accept the hadith in this understanding
[22:50]that the devils those followers of Satan they're shackled there's another group
[22:58]of devils that are not and those are the human devils.
[23:03]Is there a reference to this in the Holy Quran?
[23:06]Yes.
[23:07]Allah statesman Every prophet of God has had enemies, devils amongst the
[23:22]jin, such as Satan himself and his supporters and devils of the
[23:27]human type.
[23:28]Now, these types of devils, they're still going to exist.
[23:33]They're still going to roam around.
[23:34]You might meet some at your work, some of your colleagues, your
[23:40]co-workers.
[23:40]Sometimes, you know, you're in the prayer hall and you see some
[23:43]kids roaming around, those ankle biters, as they say, you know, the
[23:46]mini devils.
[23:46]But of course, this is metaphorically speaking.
[23:48]But these human devils, they still exist during the month of Sh
[23:51]Ramadan.
[23:56]Regardless, my dear brothers and sisters, this month of Sha Ramadan is
[24:00]truly a blessed month.
[24:04]In one narration attributed to the prophet says Allah out of his
[24:21]infinite mercy when you commit a sin if you have made the
[24:27]intention to commit the sin he tells the angels wait don't write
[24:29]it down wait till the person actually commits the sin then you
[24:34]Write it down.
[24:33]After you commit the sin, he tells the angels, "Wait, wait, wait.
[24:36]Don't write it down yet.
[24:40]Give him seven hours." If she repents within 7 hours, it won't
[24:44]even be marked down because there's still a difference between having been
[24:48]marked down as sinning and then having it deleted and not even
[24:50]being marked down in the first place.
[24:52]This is in regards to sinning.
[24:57]In regards to doing good deeds, Allah tells the angels, "As soon
[25:01]as you see my servant making a sincere and honest intention to
[25:05]do good, put that down in his or her book of before
[25:09]they've even done it.
[25:11]And if they didn't end up doing it because they just literally
[25:13]couldn't, the situation was that they couldn't, they still get that reward.
[25:17]And if you do the reward depending on what type of action
[25:23]it is this narration says the and reward will be multiplied 70
[25:27]times to 700 times.
[25:31]Then the prophet continues he says except patience.
[25:38]The word for patience is different.
[25:44]It's not time 70 or time 700.
[25:44]What is it?
[25:46]He tells the angels, "Look, the reward of patience is so much
[25:52]you guys can't deal with it.
[25:53]Leave it up to me.
[25:56]Allahel will personally disperse the rewards of patience to you." Even the
[26:07]angels with their might, they cannot record the reward for only Allah
[26:13]can.
[26:13]And one of the practical applications of sub is fasting.
[26:19]It does require patience to resist your own body's biological signals to
[26:25]eat to drink.
[26:27]Only Allahel can record the amount of rewards that we will be
[26:34]obtaining inshallah.
[26:35]And secondly, my dear brothers and sisters, we have one hadith from
[26:40]in which he states You're exhausted.
[26:50]You came back from work, came back from a long day of
[26:53]studying.
[26:56]You're about to have that beautiful, you know, the sushi, the dolma.
[27:04]It's all on the table.
[27:08]You eat the dua you make after having that beautiful meal.
[27:11]This narration of when he says will not be rejected.
[27:15]Make any dua.
[27:17]Make dua for your make dua for your parents.
[27:22]Make dua for your children.
[27:24]Make dua for those Muslims around the world who are not in
[27:26]as privileged positions as us.
[27:30]Any dua you make according to this narration will be accepted.
[27:35]And I'll conclude with this hadith, my dear brothers and sisters.
[27:48]He says Ramadan, once you're certain that Ramadan has arrived, such as
[27:57]a night like this fast.
[28:08]The type of fast that in the back of your mind you
[28:12]really believe you're this is the last month of fasting.
[28:15]This is the last time you'll be given the privilege of fasting.
[28:25]How many people just like you last year they were fasting they
[28:30]were breaking fast with you on the same dinner table but according
[28:33]to this narration now they're in the abode of the grave.
[28:40]and they're alone amongst that pile of dirt.
[28:45]Well, maybe not tonight, not tomorrow, maybe not this Ramadan, but eventually
[28:50]that day will come for me.
[28:53]Be grateful for the privilege of having been chosen by Allahawel to
[28:59]be given the opportunity to fast the Ramadan, to make dua for
[29:04]yourself, for your family, for your friends every night after to spend
[29:08]the night in worship accumulating and obtaining the forgiveness of Allahel.
[29:14]May Allah subhana t bless you my dear brothers and sisters.
[29:18]May Allah accept all of our all of our actions in this
[29:20]month of Ramadan.
