[0:00]a few things come to mind first of all i wonder why
[0:05]those who try to attack any text that doesn't conform with their
[0:08]narrow secular view why they don't employ the same tactic and the
[0:13]same logic to the holy quran and they will rest assured soon
[0:18]enough they'll turn their malicious pseudo-intellectual guns towards the quran itself for
[0:24]example all the verses that discuss hell and its torment they're super
[0:29]negative because you can take any part of a text especially religious
[0:34]text zoom in on it and then extrapolate meaning from it and
[0:39]apply that meaning to the entire text but that's disingenuous that's not
[0:44]something that a scholar would do what he's doing is he's taking
[0:49]one part of dua which is incredibly inspirational which is a text
[0:55]that brings you nearness to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala awareness of allah
[0:58]subhanahu wa ta'ala and he's sort of as i said he's taking
[1:02]that one text and then he's saying this creates negativity if you
[1:08]look at the quran once again you have the verses that talk
[1:12]about how the believers are a minority is an example of that
[1:19]no matter how hard you try no matter how hard you strive
[1:24]most people will not be believers this is what the verse in
[1:27]the quran is saying so the statement from is rephrasing this same
[1:32]verse in the holy quran so your problem is with the quran
[1:39]maybe you should start there but for now it's about hadith and
[1:42]it's about supplications which ironically form an incredibly rich part of our
[1:49]devotional tradition but then i guess that's the sign of the times
[1:51]this is where we are at the moment where our duas are
[1:54]being attacked number two it's funny how when they find a part
[1:59]of a dua irritating they conveniently place that text on a mortuary
[2:04]table slice it and dice it and perform an autopsy on the
[2:08]dua taking only the part that fits their mindset and throwing away
[2:11]the parts that don't in this case as we said it happens
[2:18]to be where even he admits is an impeccable text that's nothing
[2:21]short of breathtaking until it gets too negative for his taste and
[2:28]speaking of negativity let me ask him uh uh a simple question
[2:32]first off what are your scholarly foundations i'm asking about your epistemological
[2:38]principles are they derived from and grounded in the quran and sunnah
[2:46]are primary religious texts or are they from psychology because if it's
[2:51]derived from psychology is it freud is it watson is it skinner
[2:56]is it abraham maslow or if you happen to have a left-leaning
[2:59]persuasion maybe you happen to be a fan of vygotsky i mean
[3:03]it's ridiculous the reason i ask is this he says what is
[3:08]all this negativity right that was the quote and if i understand
[3:13]that um you know ultimately we live in a world where it's
[3:16]a feel-good now culture where sadness and anxiety or any negative emotion
[3:22]for that matter is the greatest evil in this culture denying reality
[3:26]is seen as a form of the dreaded negativity so let me
[3:31]borrow from your hypersensitive emotion-centric worldview what you call negativity is an
[3:39]incredibly powerful motivator if you're making a plea for charity for an
[3:43]earthquake-stricken village for example do you talk about the rewards of giving
[3:48]or do you show images of the earthquake images of destruction pain
[3:53]and human misery negativity is what sticks and inspires behavioral change here's
[4:00]another example you can tell a smoker all about how nice unpolluted
[4:09]air is but that's not how you change them they need to
[4:13]see repulsive images of lungs infested with cancer to consider the consequences
[4:18]of their actions i can give a thousand more examples of how
[4:22]behavioral psychologists acknowledge the power of negative emotions also until you acknowledge
[4:31]reality you can't and won't change it if a morbidly obese person
[4:34]was surrounded by their friends and family who walked on eggshells and
[4:39]always told her she looks beautiful no matter what she'll never understand
[4:42]that her health may be at risk acknowledging reality is an essential
[4:47]prerequisite towards fixing our problems which means that someone who lives in
[4:54]an ivory tower free from discomfort or the hammer of justice both
[4:58]physical and religious of course they're not going to acknowledge reality and
[5:02]any reference to that bitter truth will be mischaracterized as negativity so
[5:07]let's look at what the imam actually teaches us to say in
[5:14]to understand just how disingenuous this this attempt is at undermining our
[5:20]duas the dua that section of the dua which is cited is
[5:27]this essentially we complain to you about not having our prophet may
[5:40]your peace and blessings be upon him and his family not having
[5:44]him amongst us and the uh the absence of our guardian what
[5:55]and the numerous enemies that we have and the fact that we
[5:59]are a minority again just like the quran says and the intensity
[6:05]of the trials and the tribulations that have afflicted us [Music] so
[6:16]help us give us backing and support because he seems to dismiss
[6:32]this whole part and the entirety of because of what he calls
[6:39]complaining right so the word neshku meaning we complain to you and
[6:42]my suggestion is it's the holy month of ramadan so maybe recite
[6:48]the quran so you wouldn't have these misconceptions and then spout them
[6:54]from the pulpit i'll give you the address for easier reference okay
[6:58]in surat yusuf allah says god essentially recounts a conversation between yahoo
[7:17]and his sons after having lost his son yusuf he says he
[7:24]turned away from them and said alas for yusuf and his eyes
[7:32]became white with the grief of that he repressed so jacob goes
[7:37]blind from all the grief that he repressed within him for the
[7:41]loss of his son yusuf they said by allah you will never
[8:00]cease to remember yusuf until you are ill or until you are
[8:04]of the perished ones in other words you're going to die by
[8:09]the you know you have you've got so much grief and so
[8:14]much sadness and you keep remembering yusuf you're going to die and
[8:18]this is the part i want you to focus on in bethesda
[8:27]he said i only complain of my anguish draw a hundred red
[8:32]lines under the word complain i only complain of my anguish and
[8:37]my grief to who to allah now go back to that section
[8:51]we complain to you about our prophet about our tribulations which means
[8:57]that complaining to god is what prophets do it is the most
[9:02]noble form of worship if you think that invites negativity then frankly
[9:07]i don't know what to say to you if yakub can grieve
[9:11]over his missing son until he goes blind and complained to god
[9:15]about him then why can't we do the same for the use
[9:21]of of muhammad s why shouldn't we cry day and night for
[9:29]not having the imam of our time amongst us or is it
[9:36]something more fundamental something more nefarious perhaps like for example not believing
[9:42]in the mahdi to begin with is that what your problem is
[9:46]and i'm not saying that you don't believe in a mahdi right
[9:50]you probably don't believe in the mahdi the shia belief in the
[9:55]savior the awaited imam in other words your conception of the savior
[10:01]is not that of the shia faith but some kind of mystical
[10:06]human transfiguration or intellectual evolution and he's been known for saying stuff
[10:11]like that and i wouldn't be surprised at all since everything he's
[10:16]been saying is anti-shia this would top it all up and you
[10:24]know honestly what all of this reminds me of because in a
[10:26]way there's a silver lining when you hear people making statements like
[10:32]that attacking our dua attacking our heritage attacking shia culture in a
[10:37]way there's a silver lining and a means of optimism in all
[10:45]of this because it reminds me the imposters the pseudo scholars the
[10:57]fake intellectuals the imam they are more harmful for the weak members
[11:09]of our followers the weak shia those whose knowledge isn't strong enough
[11:16]these pseudo scholars are more harmful towards them from the army of
[11:27]yazid toward the camp of imam al-hussein why the imam explains he
[11:32]says because the army of yazid take their lives they take their
[11:41]possessions doubt and misconception into the hearts of those who are weak
[12:00]amongst our followers why do you think there will be a group
[12:03]of people who are described as scholars who tell imam al-mahdi when
[12:11]he finally finally returns oh son of fatima go back we don't
[12:19]need you because maybe we needed you in the minor occultation but
[12:24]now we have smartphones now we have the internet now we have
[12:29]big fancy institutions and millions of dollars being pumped by millionaires who
[12:36]back us to find loopholes in religion so we really don't need
[12:41]you to restore the prophet's religion we've distorted it so much that
[12:45]your presence amongst us is a threat it's too inconvenient to have
[12:52]your return just go back to where you came from we seek
[12:55]refuge and allah from these individuals the imam says in another hadith
[13:02]i believe imam assad he says relief won't come until you are
[13:16]sifted until you are filtered until the good is separated from the
[13:20]bad the impostor from the truthful and the righteous from the hypocrite
[13:28]said it three times the process of filtration has to happen over
[13:33]and over again until allah removes all the filth all the dirt
[13:43]and keeps only the purest of the pure now i will make
[13:49]one uh final observation about and its authenticity because the chain of
[13:56]the dua goes back to muhammad ibn uthman ibn saeed now those
[14:02]of you who are familiar with the uh the minor occultation and
[14:06]the emissaries of imam zaman will recognize this name because was the
[14:12]first emissary the first safir of the imam and his son muhammad
[14:17]uthman became the second the second representative he is the one who
[14:22]wrote this dua in a book and he said that this dua
[14:28]is recommended for the month of ramadan we also know that imam
[14:33]al-hasan gave the highest possible accolade to uthman said and his son
[14:44]muhammad to whom this chain ends this hadith is mentioned by rajadi
[14:50]scholars and it's considered as i said the highest possible accolade that
[14:53]an imam could give to someone because the imam says the first
[15:05]representative and his son are reliable allah whatever they deliver to you
[15:17]they are delivering it from me whatever they give you in matters
[15:22]of religion at least the imam doesn't restrict it to matters of
[15:25]religion but obviously this would be the context of the hadith whatever
[15:30]they give you they are quoting us whatever they tell you they
[15:40]are telling you from us it just keeps getting better and better
[15:45]the imam says so listen to them and obey them for they
[15:52]are the true the two trustworthy ones and reliable ones the dua
[15:58]is narrated by this individual and it's been narrated and recited by
[16:05]our great scholars for centuries but it seems that none had the
[16:11]eagle-eyed precision of making this ground-breaking discovery that the dua may contain
[16:16]and i can't believe i'm saying this some negativity so that those
[16:21]sleeping on comfortable beds and deriving and and deriving their teachings from
[16:25]psychology and going around in their jaguars can appreciate the fact that
[16:34]to eradicate injustice on a universal scale requires divine intervention and that
[16:38]we are too weak and too meek to play god unless of
[16:44]course you're so arrogant that you think you're the infantile center of
[16:48]the universe and can do all of those things it's obvious it's
[16:53]obvious to me that your problem isn't with this dua per se
[16:57]but with shia literature and our religious culture and identity a culture
[17:04]that's based on centuries of exhaustive scholarship and meticulous research may allah
[17:14]prolong his life he makes an observation that is quite incredible it
[17:19]gives an example he says that our work the work of a
[17:22]scholar is like digging a well with a needle that's how meticulous
[17:27]and painstaking the process is right this culture that's composed of spiritual
[17:34]devotions the like of which no other religion has seen and supplications
[17:39]that are the envy of others to the extent that i've seen
[17:42]with my own two eyes on some arab tv channels these same
[17:47]duas being plagiarized and attributed to the likes of hassan al-basri and
[17:52]other imposters then this random guy comes along and ravages them because
[17:57]he feels depressed
