Choose a goal you can love | Ali Reza Panahian
The Prophet (s) told Abazar, “Abazar, determine a goal for each time you take action and each time you don’t take action. Have an intention, even for your eating and sleeping. If you don’t make an intention, you will be one of the negligent.” When hearing this one might think that being negligent is not that bad! So we’re negligent. But the Prophet continued, “Negligent people are those about whom the Qur’an states, ‘They are like cattle; rather they are more astray.’” [Qur’an 7: 179]
[Imam Ali (as) said,] “The wisest people are those who think more about the outcome.” They look at the results very much, how about you? Who is the wisest among us? He’s surely the one who looks at the goal more. One should have a goal and should think about it. One should love his goal. I suggest you love your goals. Be strong. Do away with goals that one cannot fall in love with!
It’s one person’s goal to become a doctor. This is his highest goal! Of course, becoming a doctor is good. But this is his highest goal. Ok, imagine trying to love this goal!! O my doctorate degree! O the white paper! O the signature of the Minister of Science and the Head of the university on my paper! Won’t this repel you?! You can’t love such a goal. Throw these away. Be a real human being. Choose a goal you are able to fall in love with.
What’s your goal? Let’s choose a goal that is reachable. Can we reach it? The Almighty God says, “If you choose any goal except Me, I’ll ruin it. I won’t let you reach it. I’ll frustrate you from reaching any goal or wish you choose except Me!”
Almighty God told Prophet David (as), “You are very eager for My Heaven.” He said, “God, you know it.” Of course, this is good for a person to be able to think of Heaven and be eager for it. The Almighty God elevated Prophet David (as) a degree and said, “So when will your eagerness for Me increase?” According to a tradition, it seems Prophet David was just becoming familiar with this concept. He asked, “Who are those that are eager for You?” God said, “Those who are untainted by any impurity. There’s no stain on them.”
Prophet David (as) was drowned in this description that the Almighty God was giving about those who are eager for Him – something higher than enthusiasm for Heaven. If we spend 90% of our lives choosing a [correct] goal, we have profited. Be a real human being! Choose a goal that you are able to fall in love with! Let’s choose a goal that is reachable.
