[7:15]resist evil and falsehood to learn god-weariness to learn discipline to distinguish
[7:23]between the friend and the foe to prioritize and to solve change
[7:30]and these nights are keys to unlock both our minds and our
[7:37]hearts to attain that change and that is because our cure is
[7:43]within us our guidance is within us and our willpower and reason
[7:48]all come from within us and hence the theme Hussain The Light

[11:24]the hastening in the return of our beloved twelfth Imam a third
[11:30]final loud salawats it's an honor to be again here with the
[11:37]dear brothers and sisters from this community I pray that inshallah what
[11:44]we go through over the following ten nights is of benefit to
[11:47]our dear audience as well as to the speaker himself a big
[11:50]thanks before I begin to the dear brothers and sisters who have
[11:56]worked very hard leading up to this ashra and I'm sure will
[11:58]be working very hard as we go through this ashra to make
[12:03]these majalis possible for us for them for their families for all
[12:06]of those who work behind the scenes to make these majalis as
[12:09]well as other majalis possible for us another loud salawats the topic
[12:19]that we'll be discussing tonight and tomorrow night inshallah is the topic
[12:23]of building an Islamic identity this is a topic that is even
[12:27]more crucial for us to discuss as Muslims living in this part
[12:32]of the world because the reality is growing up from the very
[12:36]beginning you start to notice something about your life that is different
[12:40]from the lives of the people around you everyone else when you
[12:45]start to go to school might be celebrating certain holidays you might
[12:48]come home one day very happy you tell your baba you tell
[12:51]your mom everyone's celebrating Christmas they tell you no this is not
[12:54]something that we celebrate from a very young age you notice that
[12:59]you're doing things very differently in your household you might get a
[13:03]little bit older get into Middle School get into High School you
[13:06]see your friends they are engaging with the opposite gender they have
[13:09]relationships it's a very normal thing Valentine's Day is a thing taking
[13:13]people to Prime is a thing you come home your parents will
[13:17]tell you no this is not allowed in our faith you have
[13:19]to do things differently you go out with your friends from school
[13:25]sometimes for your colleagues your peers they go out to eat some
[13:28]food you can't necessarily eat that food all of a sudden you
[13:31]see things are different in your your life every step of the
[13:35]way you make it into college you find almost everybody in college
[13:39]is experiencing with drugs and alcohol and all sorts of things and
[13:43]at the very least theoretically you and I know that we're not
[13:48]supposed to engage with these things move on to you're getting married
[13:50]now you look at your wedding you look at the Instagram worthy
[13:53]wedding of a non-muslim couple and you see these weddings are quite
[13:57]different from each other at least they're supposed to be and so
[14:02]every step of the way you start to realize that you do
[14:04]things differently in this Society it seems as though the way you
[14:10]do things and the way the normal person within Society or the
[14:13]average person within Society does things are quite different from each other
[14:18]and this gives rise to a question and puts a question into
[14:22]all of our minds and that is what is my place in
[14:26]my role in this Society who am I what is my identity
[14:29]because clearly I'm not just one of the members of this Society
[14:34]clearly I do things differently compared to the way they do things
[14:40]they're living their lives one way I'm living my life a different
[14:41]way who am I what is my identity what is my place
[14:47]within Society so you ask yourself that question and you start to
[14:51]realize the answer to that question is far more complex and complicated
[14:54]than you thoughts because in reality when you look at your own
[15:00]life you realize that you identify in a multitude of different ways
[15:05]sometimes you identify based on your ethnicity you might say I'm Arab
[15:09]I'm Iranian I'm Pakistani whatever the case might be sometimes you identify
[15:13]based on your career I'm a doctor I'm a lawyer I'm this
[15:17]I'm that sometimes you identify based off of your last name some
[15:22]last names are so well known it's an identity in and of
[15:25]itself sometimes you identify based on where you grew up you say
[15:29]I'm American I'm Canadian I'm this I'm that and all these other
[15:32]sorts of identities that you can think of but at the end
[15:36]of the day which one of these are you am I Muslim
[15:38]am I an American Muslim am I Muslim American how do I
[15:44]identify what is my identity and the reason why this discussion is
[15:48]so crucial to us is because I your identity and your conduct
[15:52]and your behavior are always tied to one another anytime you want
[15:58]to see how someone is acting in life it has to do
[16:00]with how they see themselves it has to do with how they
[16:06]identify what they consider to be their identity therefore it is crucial
[16:11]for us tonight and tomorrow night to take some time to understand
[16:14]who am I what does Islam say about my identity and that
[16:20]will in turn then determine for me how I'm going to live
[16:23]my life and in order to delve into this topic we'll pose
[16:29]the following questions number one how is the conduct and the behavior
[16:33]of the human being always tied to his identity and the way
[16:36]he sees himself number two what are the different ways that we
[16:42]identify and if we have different ways that we identify which one
[16:46]of them is the most foundational the most crucial to Who I
[16:50]Am Number Three how does the Quran speak of the identity of
[16:55]the human being and our origin story number four how does Imam
[16:59]Ali speak of the of our origin and those moments when we
[17:04]used to be in the womb of our mother number five what
[17:09]does the Quran mean and what is it talking about when the
[17:12]Quran says the one who forgets about God he will forget who
[17:18]he is himself and number six and finally how do the lines
[17:23]in this salats that we perform after everything in the life of
[17:27]a person is all said and done how do these lines show
[17:30]us the true identity of the human being tonight inshallah we'll delve
[17:39]into these six questions with aloud Muhammad let us begin from here
[17:48]when you look at Islam as a religion it comes with many
[17:50]rules and regulations so many do's and don'ts and so before we
[17:57]get into all of these do's and don'ts you can't dress like
[17:59]this you can't eat this you can't listen to this you can't
[18:03]look at this you can't do this you can't do that first
[18:06]we have to understand what is my identity otherwise I'm always going
[18:10]to struggle with these do's and don'ts of Islam because I'm always
[18:13]going to feel as though someone else is coming and taking away
[18:16]my Liberties and my freedom as a human being someone is coming
[18:22]this religion this Islam this God whoever it might be is coming
[18:25]and telling me what to do what not to do with my
[18:28]life as long as I see myself as an independent being as
[18:31]someone who has authority over his own life I will feel like
[18:36]someone is intervening in my life all the time but if I
[18:38]identify in a different way if I understand who I am well
[18:43]then things are going to be very very different from one another
[18:45]and the reason why this topic is so crucial is because we
[18:51]said that the identity of the human being is fundamentally what will
[18:56]Define his behavior and his conduct the way you see yourself the
[19:01]understanding you have of who you are is what's going to dictate
[19:06]what you will do when you're in a situation where you have
[19:08]to make a decision there are some of your friends you come
[19:11]across they sleep very late at night you automatically give them an
[19:19]identity say this friend of mine is a night owl that's it
[19:21]he takes on this identity yes now when you're hanging out with
[19:26]him he says listen Baba you know who I am I'm a
[19:27]night owl I'm gonna stay up I'm not gonna go to sleep
[19:31]until 2AM yes Fajr is something else we'll figure out Fajr later
[19:34]yes but he says this is my identity this is who I
[19:40]am you have another friend yes he wakes up very early in
[19:42]the morning this friend of yours is the type of person who
[19:47]wants to wake up early and God forbid he's the type of
[19:49]person who wants to let everyone else know that he woke up
[19:53]early yes that type of a friend is a problem but you
[19:56]give him an identity he's an early bird that's what he does
[20:01]the moment you give him that identity that is going to determine
[20:04]his behavior his conduct that's what you expect of him these two
[20:07]are always tied to one another very very closely I'll give you
[20:13]an analogy so you understand this better imagine one night you know
[20:17]your mother tells you go and put the trash out yes it's
[20:19]late at night because she told you earlier you didn't do it
[20:24]yes but now it's okay it's late at night go put this
[20:27]trash out you want to take the trash out down the driveway
[20:31]it's dark for some of us it might be scary imagine you're
[20:36]going down this driveway carrying this trash with you and in the
[20:39]bushes you start to hear some noise and so I think we've
[20:45]all been there you hear this noise some of us of course
[20:49]will run back yeah back in the house but when you hear
[20:54]this sound in the bushes what's the first question you ask yourself
[20:57]first question you ask yourself is what is this you want to
[21:03]figure out its identity what is it is it a dog is
[21:07]it a cat is it a cute little rabbit is it a
[21:12]snake God forbid God forbid God for the worst of all is
[21:14]it a racks yes the rat is probably the worst of all
[21:18]even though the snake can kill you but still the rat is
[21:19]the worst case scenario yes you want to figure out what this
[21:24]thing is why because you want to figure out what it's going
[21:27]to do the identity of that thing that's moving around in the
[21:32]bush will determine for you how it's going to act and what
[21:36]it's going to do if you can pinpoint its identity then you'll
[21:39]know am I supposed to run back to my house or can
[21:42]I just be brave and move forward the identity of everything is
[21:47]going to determine how that thing is going to do things okay
[21:50]great Allah can you just tell us what our identity is why
[21:55]can't Islam just tell us what our identity is so we start
[21:57]to look into our identities the problem is that you identify in
[22:01]a million different ways sometimes you identify based off of your economic
[22:05]status sometimes you identify based off of your ethnicity where you grew
[22:09]up what type of food you like some people even identify based
[22:14]off of where they went to school the college they went to
[22:16]is what they identify based off of all of a sudden they
[22:20]do some weird symbols towards each other you realize well they went
[22:22]to the same high school they went to the same college for
[22:24]example yes we identify in so many different ways so then the
[22:31]problem starts and begins from this point and that is where Sometimes
[22:38]some of these identities start to contradict one another they start to
[22:42]overlap with one another like one identity is asking you to do
[22:46]one thing another identity is asking you to do another thing you're
[22:51]stuck in this situation what am I supposed to do who am
[22:54]I give you a simple example your friends call you they say
[22:59]listen we're gonna go we're gonna spend some time tonight yes we're
[23:02]gonna hang out tonight this is your identity as a friend calling
[23:07]you to go and attend go and spend time and then you
[23:08]get a call from the family well we're gonna go and check
[23:12]and see our relatives tonight so your identities are doing what now
[23:16]they are contradicting one another now you're stuck you don't know am
[23:21]I supposed to go this way am I supposed to go that
[23:24]way and you will see that every single human being who's ever
[23:28]lived and is living right now and will ever live will be
[23:32]in this position and they will always prefer one identity over the
[23:36]other when they start to overlap always give importance and preference to
[23:40]one of these identities over the other one it's very key is
[23:44]the key to our discussion and he always gives a preference to
[23:52]that identity that's more crucial and is closer to who he really
[23:56]is is more foundational to who he is that's what he does
[24:00]so if his friends call him even if he's not Muslim if
[24:04]his friends call him say hey we're gonna go spend time and
[24:08]then his wife calls him says listen we have to go to
[24:10]the hospital I'm hoping I'm praying that he's actually going to do
[24:17]what he's going to give preference to that relationship that he has
[24:20]in the household he'll say you know what I'm more of a
[24:23]husband than I am a friend right now this one is more
[24:28]foundational to who I am yeah I am a friend too other
[24:30]situations I would be going out spending time all that kind of
[24:34]stuff but you know when these two contradict each other I'm gonna
[24:37]give importance and preference to that identity that is more foundational to
[24:42]who I am so he goes spends time with the family you
[24:47]switch this up sometimes his identity as a friend contradicts his identity
[24:51]as an employee of an organization or Corporation yes they call him
[24:57]into work but then his friend calls him and says listen I
[25:00]need you I need your time for this issue or that issue
[25:02]yes this is a contradicting with one of he's being pulled from
[25:06]two different directions and ideally if he's the right friend for you
[25:10]he will call back and say listen right now I'm more of
[25:15]a friend than I am an employee so I'll call into work
[25:19]and tell them I can't come because this is a very crucial
[25:21]moment in your life and you really need my help and so
[25:26]on and so forth Muslim or non-muslim your identities are always going
[25:29]to clash with each other and when they Clash you always give
[25:32]preference to one of these identities over the other one yes this
[25:38]is understood this is very clear and Islam expects the same thing
[25:42]from you and I Islam says listen you have a hundred different
[25:46]identities figure out which one of them is the most foundational to
[25:50]you and then if they ever Clash never override the most foundational
[25:58]one never override that one don't take this one for granted never
[26:02]prefer anything over this one because this one is the most foundational
[26:08]to who you are this is what Islam wants from us I
[26:10]can have a million different identities no problem if they ever Clash
[26:13]with that most foundational identity then Allah expects from us to give
[26:19]preference to that identity okay wonderful I get it I understand let's
[26:24]move on yallah what is my most foundational identity that if any
[26:30]other Identity or role were to ever contradict it I have to
[26:32]give preference to this one this is where the discussion gets a
[26:35]little humbling yes it's going to take a little bit of humility
[26:40]so you knock on the door of the Quran can you tell
[26:44]us what our most foundational identity is who are we at our
[26:47]very core and the Quran says sure I can tell you that
[26:50]it's going to be a little humbling but let me tell you
[26:53]what that is see you are most foundational identity what really makes
[26:57]you who you are at your very core is that you are
[27:04]a servant because the thing is you don't own anything because you
[27:10]don't own anything you don't have ownership over anything you have to
[27:14]serve the one who gave you the stuff you have and this
[27:18]is the difficult part because you and I sit there and say
[27:23]wait a second uh excuse me I think there's been some kind
[27:24]of a mistake I kind of have my own life and I
[27:27]make my own decisions and I have a career and friends and
[27:31]all of this I'm an independent being so what do you mean
[27:34]servant this servant that serve who I have all these things in
[27:38]life I have I own a house I have a career I
[27:41]own a car I have this I have that and the Quran
[27:42]says yeah you know all that stuff you have someone gave them
[27:47]to you none of them belong to you you have nothing to
[27:52]your name you don't own anything see but all this stuff I
[27:56]have I have a whole life it says yeah but somebody else
[27:59]gave you all of that any of that and so because you
[28:05]don't have any ownership you also don't have any authority over your
[28:10]own life so what's my identity you have to go serve the
[28:20]one who owns everything in your life this is how it works
[28:23]Authority comes from ownership if someone walks onto your lawn you can
[28:27]turn around to them and say listen you need to leave my
[28:30]house right now what gives you permission to tell them go leave
[28:33]my house it's a fact you own the house ownership okay Bismillah
[28:37]the stuff in your life the Quran will say oh you don't
[28:39]own any of them well if I don't own any of them
[28:45]well then I have no authority over my life that's your identity
[28:49]you're like no but I I don't think it works like that
[28:52]I'm kind of an important person you know I sit I talk
[28:57]people listen you know I kind of have a have a little
[28:58]thing going for myself in my life and the Quran says listen
[29:02]somebody else gave you all of that you want me to demonstrate
[29:04]for you how you had nothing and then someone else gave you
[29:08]all of that let's go back to your origin story let's see
[29:11]where you came from so you go to Surat to Tariq verse
[29:17]five through seven the Quran says the human being should think sometimes
[29:20]uh where he came from you should you should take a a
[29:29]little trip back yes in in your history and remember where you
[29:31]came from because now you're acting like you own a bunch of
[29:33]stuff you don't own anything you're kind of a nobody in front
[29:39]of God yes in society you have rights you're independent all of
[29:43]that makes sense yeah but in your relationship with God you don't
[29:46]really own too much okay so where did I come from it
[29:52]says he should take a look of where he came from okay
[29:55]so where did I come from you came from a drop of
[30:00]fluid oh wait a second I thought I was like kind of
[30:04]important you are important from other angles you are important but from
[30:08]this angle you were empty-handed you had nothing yes it comes from
[30:17]the loins and so on and so forth this is who used
[30:21]to who you used to be foreign but I thought I was
[30:27]really important he says listen let's go a little bit back if
[30:30]we go a little bit further back it's not even that drop
[30:35]of fluid you're like almost nothing before I made you into something
[30:40]I was the one who made you who you are otherwise on
[30:44]your own you had nothing to your name so then suratul insan
[30:51]which sometimes we refer to as Surat has three beautiful verses when
[30:54]you go home tonight take a look at these three verses yes
[30:57]the first three verses is all of our life in a nutshell
[31:04]essentially three verses the first verse starts out like this it says
[31:10]does the human being not remember there was a time he wasn't
[31:15]even worthy of mention that's who you used to be yes now
[31:20]you're sitting here you're a full-fledged human being with Consciousness intellect so
[31:25]on and so forth a whole life of your own yes but
[31:27]someone brought you this far someone else did all of this so
[31:33]now your identity is to serve him nothing to your own name
[31:37]nothing from yourself your ears your eyes your Consciousness your intellect your
[31:42]mind all of this came from somewhere else the Quran says listen
[31:45]you don't own any of these things that's why the Quran says
[31:50]Allah owns everything you guys are empty-handed the human being is empty-handed
[32:00]he doesn't own anything you want to go a little bit deeper
[32:02]to understand who you are you know Islamic philosophers they talk about
[32:05]this it's a long discussion but I'll simplify just so you get
[32:10]the terminology Islamic philosophers call you and I a mumkin mumkin mumkin
[32:15]means what Mom can means that thing that's so weak if it
[32:21]wants to exist something else has to want it to exist otherwise
[32:26]it can't even stand on its own two feet this is mumkin
[32:29]monkin is that thing that exists that in its own existence and
[32:35]in everything it does it needs someone else to come and do
[32:37]it for him his heart needs to beat someone asks us to
[32:41]come to it his lungs have to work someone else has to
[32:44]come to his blood has to run through somebody else he needs
[32:46]eyes someone else has to say ears someone else so what's my
[32:52]identity you're that thing that can't even exist on its own that's
[32:56]who you are that is foundationally our identity that is the most
[33:00]foundational identity that we have as human beings this is why the
[33:03]Quran says by the way your existence is so flimsy yeah that
[33:08]if God wanted to wipe you out and then bring in another
[33:12]group of people it's not like once he created you you're stuck
[33:17]with you you can't do anything about it no no yes if
[33:23]I wanted to I could wipe you out bring out another group
[33:28]of people and you know what it's very easy for me because
[33:30]your existence is so flimsy removing it bringing it it's like a
[33:36]flip second just a split second I can do it so he
[33:40]says when we want to get stuff done it takes us one
[33:43]moment it's like you bat your eyes that's what we can do
[33:51]that's how flimsy of an existence you and I have now with
[33:55]this flimsy existence we're standing there with nothing to our name and
[33:58]then Allah says you need to do this you need to do
[34:02]that and I'm like well I don't think so I don't know
[34:05]if I want to trust you so much and this and Baba
[34:08]you don't own anything you're not in a position of authority you
[34:12]know sometimes you go into negotiations right when you're negotiating with the
[34:15]other person you need some Leverage if you need something ownership over
[34:19]something so that you can point towards it recite us please you
[34:28]need something you own so you can point towards it and say
[34:31]oh well if you don't give us this we own this you're
[34:34]in a position of authority and God's saying listen you're not in
[34:36]position of authority everything you want to do I have to do
[34:40]it for you what Authority what ownership you can breathe on your
[34:49]own huh this is why I lived he explained so beautifully in
[34:55]one of his how we came to be the human beings that
[34:58]we are it's very humbling humbling he says listen let me tell
[35:05]you who you are he says yeah oh the one who first
[35:13]of all someone else had to create you someone else had to
[35:18]come in and organize your Affairs yes means the one who created
[35:23]the human being and then he organized him he put him into
[35:26]proportions yes your head is going to be here your arms your
[35:30]limbs your organs so on all the headache all the headache of
[35:32]the design of the human being this is fasawa foreign you are
[35:43]the one who God brought you forward through the darknesses of the
[35:47]wombs generation after generation after General you were part of this body
[35:55]then this body then this body then this body in the darknesses
[35:58]of the wombs when people didn't even know who you are there
[36:02]was someone who had to hold your hand and bring you all
[36:05]this way own anything we don't we don't we're not in a
[36:09]position of authority with God and you were hidden behind multiple layers
[36:21]your creation started from a speck of dust and then what happened
[36:29]then someone brought you and put you into a place of residence
[36:34]for a certain period of time foreign you were going from one
[36:42]corner to the other corner of the womb of your mother you
[36:44]were just in the womb of your mother foreign you were so
[36:52]insignificant no one could speak to you and you couldn't communicate with
[36:58]anybody this is who you were don't approach God from a position
[37:04]of authority because it's not true there's no reality to it you
[37:08]don't own anything I don't own anything it's a difficult pill to
[37:11]swallow he says you came from there and then God brought you
[37:20]out into a world this is very beautiful he says then God
[37:27]God brought you into this world you were born yeah but even
[37:31]when he brought you into this world you didn't even know the
[37:33]basics of life and then he asked this one question one question
[37:40]he says he says who taught you to go to your mother
[37:51]when you were hungry who taught you that you say oh no
[37:59]Sheikh if you study science we have some doctors in the community
[38:01]they said this comes naturally to the child no the stuff that
[38:08]came naturally to the child someone inspired this child to do these
[38:12]things someone taught him how to do these things says you're the
[38:17]one who is that Speck of dust all of it even when
[38:21]he brought you here then he had to teach you that listen
[38:23]if you're not comfortable crying because if you cry then your mother
[38:29]will come your aunts will come everyone will come yeah if you're
[38:32]hungry Yeah scratch the chest of your mother a little bit Yeah
[38:35]struggle it then they'll come you say oh this is all natural
[38:40]no it's not natural saying somebody inspired you for all of this
[38:44]so then that was you the one who had none of these
[38:49]things someone had to teach you all of the basics now you've
[38:52]come all of this way and now you're looking back and you
[38:57]see yourself as an independent being you're like yeah I did all
[38:58]of this on my own no what do you mean you did
[39:01]all of it on your own God is a part of everything
[39:04]you do because you need him in everything you do and this
[39:08]is why verse 19 from Surah 59 suratul is a very key
[39:14]verse in this whole discussion because Allah says something that for me
[39:19]personally growing up hearing it in lectures never made sense to me
[39:21]always hear this verse in lectures never made sense to me but
[39:26]if you understand this discussion we had now it makes a little
[39:31]bit more sense the Quran says don't be like those people who
[39:38]do this you know the Quran has this terminology yeah you know
[39:41]sometimes we say you don't want to be that guy right don't
[39:46]be that guy the Quran is saying don't be like those people
[39:49]like who don't be like those people who forgot about God okay
[39:55]so what happens if I forget about God there's a bunch of
[39:57]people they don't even think about God you know not even once
[40:00]a year seems like their life is going very well what's the
[40:02]problem he says because they forget who they are themselves what do
[40:13]you mean they forget who they are themselves because you are that
[40:16]being that can't exist on your own the moment you take God
[40:20]out of the picture there's no more you you don't exist anymore
[40:25]you forget about who you are you can't picture who you are
[40:30]without God being part of the equation you forget about God okay
[40:35]great you're lost in life you have no idea who you are
[40:40]you will forget who you are yourself because you are that being
[40:45]that is constantly reliant on God that's your definition that's who your
[40:50]identity is the moment you take God out of that equation there's
[40:52]no more you anymore you're not independent you have nothing to your
[40:57]name they are the ones who end up disobeying God the one
[41:04]who thinks he's independent God's out the picture so now he thinks
[41:07]it's his own thing now he gives himself permission to do as
[41:11]he wishes so now he has Fisk now he has open sinning
[41:15]now he commits sins he does this he does that because he
[41:20]lost and forgot who he was why because he took God out
[41:23]of the equation you know what the foundational identity of the human
[41:28]being is at its very core where this presents itself in the
[41:34]most manifest in the most clear way is when at the end
[41:37]of the life of this human being they bring the body they
[41:40]say we're going to do a Salat now that Muslims will do
[41:46]Shia and Sunni will do when they want to recite the Salat
[41:51]I'm sure many have already attended in the past there are lines
[41:54]that are to be recited these lines are to be recited by
[41:56]everyone who's part of this the Imam is not supposed to recite
[42:01]on your behalf like a normal Jamara right you do it in
[42:03]Jamal but you recite all the lines yourself there's five tech peers
[42:09]and after every takibir certain lines you say yes there's the Kalima
[42:13]you say and then you pray for all the Believers you do
[42:15]all of these things yes until you come to the last lines
[42:19]you're going to mention before the fifth takibir and the Salat is
[42:25]over this last between takapir four and five you're going to talk
[42:28]about this who's in front of you all the other things are
[42:30]General stuff that's when I say General stuff not that they're not
[42:34]important but you're talking about general concepts between four and five this
[42:38]was in front of us I want to be careful not to
[42:42]point to any of the dear brothers here this mayatu is in
[42:45]front of us so what do you say in these lines this
[42:49]person who had a million different identities he was a lawyer he
[42:55]had this ethnicity he had that last name Bubba he had a
[42:58]last name when he used to say this last name people would
[43:01]just you know be like yeah whatever you want we all know
[43:05]people who are like that he had the identity of the type
[43:10]of wealth when he walked in people are like yeah sure we
[43:14]can make it happen he had these identities he had the identity
[43:19]of a certain class of society all of these different identities okay
[43:23]now everything is all said and done and now we're going to
[43:29]talk about this but look at how you talk about him to
[43:31]God so you start you say Allah oh Allah this one who's
[43:42]lying in front of us now you're going to refer to him
[43:47]so you have to use his identity right so the identity is
[43:50]for to point to things foreign he's a servant of yours who
[44:05]was also born from a male servant and a female servant about
[44:09]what happened he had all this this whole life of his all
[44:14]these identities he had this story and this experiences and all this
[44:17]kind of stuff what about all of that you say yeah that
[44:21]kind of stuff doesn't matter anymore that those identities were all cool
[44:28]and nice yeah wonderful great job but then at the most foundational
[44:32]level this was his identity if he utilized those other ones uh
[44:36]to build more of this great if he didn't he just had
[44:41]those other identities well that's fine they're not necessarily Haram either but
[44:44]you know it's fine but they don't have much value today it
[44:47]doesn't matter much today anymore the only thing that matters now is
[44:58]that he's come to you and while you're the best one to
[45:01]come towards you're the most welcoming to come towards okay so now
[45:05]what matters now Allah if he did well in other words I.E
[45:16]translation if he was a good servant e he took steps towards
[45:24]you o Allah out of your mercy out of your grace out
[45:28]of your father add to his goodness and if he didn't do
[45:35]well well then Allah forgive him what's your most foundational identity your
[45:40]most foundational identity is that you are that existence that cannot breathe
[45:46]or live on its own everything else layers of your existence if
[45:53]you go to your very core this is who you are okay
[45:58]wonderful this is my most foundational identity it's humbling but I'll take
[46:02]it because the Quran is saying so so if this is my
[46:05]most foundational identity and this leads us to our discussion for tomorrow
[46:09]night and then the Quran is going to tell you now if
[46:11]this is your most foundational identity when you take on other identities
[46:15]that's not a problem only when they clash with this one this
[46:23]one overrides them if they don't Clash fine a lot of times
[46:29]they won't some identities will never clash with this no problem sometimes
[46:34]they will and Allah expects from you and I that because this
[46:39]is the most foundational identity of yours this is the most important
[46:42]thing that makes you who you are if anything clashes with this
[46:50]one this gets preference this one gets precedence this one gets to
[46:56]override everything else if you start to override this one and give
[47:00]preference to other things then you're forgetting who you are truly and
[47:05]tomorrow night we will talk about how a human being can sometimes
[47:11]give preference to this identity and how the human being sometimes can
[47:14]make the big mistake of giving preference to his other identities with
[47:20]that inshallah we'll bring tonight's talk to and end let us take
[47:25]a moment to recite soon for all of your man and especially
[47:29]for the Mount of all of those who have who have worked
