Shaykh Muhammad M. Khalfan writes:
'In a well-known prophetic dictum we are told, "Indeed your Lord has Breaths of His Mercy in the days of Your time - so expose yourselves to them!" (Majlisi, Bihar al-Anwar, v.68, p. 221).
Muharram is an occasion when we can expose ourselves to the Breaths of Divine Mercy. We must therefore try to actively participate in gatherings of lamentation for Abu Abdillah al-Husayn ('a) so that we are embraced with special divine grace that covers the true mourning ones. The insightful scholars say that it is these very meaningful lamentations that can facilitate the spiritual ascension of the aspirant of absolute perfection. Therefore let the pandemic not hamper us from a powerful and constant participation in this Divine Banquet of His Special Mercy! Brothers and sisters, it is raining heavily, and our state of is that of a drought stricken land. Is it not time to expose this rain to the lands of our hearts? Let us not allow a day to pass without reflection, mourning and lamentation about the life of our hearts - al-Husayn, for it is this very sacrificing spirit who practically showed the visage of a true lover in Karbala.'
