[0:30]That's it.
[0:48]Alhamdulillah.
[1:08]Mustafa.
[1:15]Muhammad.
[1:16]Respected brothers and sisters, We mentioned the last few nights that one
[1:56]of the most beautiful and transformative duas of the is dua a
[2:08]dua that imbin recited during the sahar time of the month of
[2:16]Ramadan.
[2:18]His companion Abu Hamza Tamali narrates that when it was the time
[2:24]of Sah the last few hours of the night I saw my
[2:29]mah my master Ali Hussein the ornament of the worshippers the master
[2:33]of those that worshiped Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala I saw him turn
[2:41]to Allahawel and he began to recite this beautiful dua that now
[2:46]we know as dua.
[2:47]He began with these opening lines that I explained last night.
[2:59]Ya Allah, I ask you to not discipline me the hard way.
[3:04]Allow my heart to be receptive to your gentle ways.
[3:11]And don't let me be fooled and misled into a life of
[3:19]sin because I rely too much on your patience and tolerance.
[3:23]Grant me the ability to feel guilty after committing sins.
[3:27]Because we will all sin, brothers and sisters.
[3:32]As we said, the difference between the person who will make it
[3:35]and the one who will break it on the day of judgment
[3:40]is how you feel after you sin.
[3:42]If you feel indifferent, you don't care.
[3:44]There is no guilt.
[3:45]This is what will lead to more and more sins.
[3:49]It's when I feel guilty and I regret disobeying Allah subhanahu wa
[3:57]ta'ala that I go back to Allahawel and I fix my mistake.
[4:01]So as we continue exploring dua Abu Hamali, we see many themes
[4:09]in dua Abu Hamza.
[4:13]The imam teaches us what to ask Allah for.
[4:14]What are the best duas that we can ask Allah subhanahu wa
[4:20]ta'ala for?
[4:22]He teaches us what to ask protection from, who to do, who
[4:26]to do dua for.
[4:28]Like I said, anything that has to do with your relationship with
[4:31]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[4:34]Almad speaks about that in dua Abu Hamza.
[4:39]But one of the most powerful and beautiful aspects that Almad focuses
[4:44]on in dua is repentance.
[4:48]Im Zul not only shows us what repentance is, he teaches us
[4:55]how to repent to Allah.
[4:59]He shows you step by step how can you restart your relationship
[5:02]with Allah.
[5:04]Because some of us do feel that longing, that yearning to repent
[5:08]to Allah.
[5:10]But where do I start?
[5:10]What do I do?
[5:15]I immedi excels.
[5:15]He comes and he so eloquently shows you the stepbystep guide to
[5:22]repent to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[5:24]And it's so beautifully clear laid out in dua Abu Hamali.
[5:30]He shows you exactly what are the stages, what are the words,
[5:33]what are the acts that you're supposed to take in order for
[5:39]you to repent to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in his beautiful and
[5:43]eloquent words because repentance is an easy word is an easy notion
[5:47]to understand but not everyone knows how to repent to Allah subhanahu
[5:51]wa ta'ala and this is where immedi excels he teaches us repentance
[6:00]brothers Brothers and sisters, and anytime we want to reform ourselves, we
[6:05]want to start a relationship with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, we have
[6:10]to always begin with repentance.
[6:12]Because you cannot seek nearness to Allah when you are carrying your
[6:16]sins, can you?
[6:19]Because remember, when you're trying to reach Allah, this is a spiritual
[6:24]trip to Allah.
[6:23]You have to ascend and move towards Allah.
[6:28]But not physically, spiritually.
[6:30]If you're carrying thousands of pounds of weight, you can't move.
[6:35]Even if you pray the most beautiful salah, even if you fast
[6:42]the entire year and you read the Quran every day, your sins
[6:45]will not allow you to make any progress because it's all of
[6:50]this load, all of this baggage that's on you.
[6:55]So the first step in reforming yourself and returning to Allah and
[7:00]starting a relationship with him begins with removing the sins off my
[7:04]chest.
[7:05]Once you remove the sins, now you're light.
[7:09]Now you can move.
[7:13]Now two can push you miles and miles.
[7:15]Now one page of the Quran will make a difference in your
[7:18]life.
[7:19]Why?
[7:20]Because those sins aren't there to block you and prevent you from
[7:25]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[7:26]And this is something I imbed himself says in the beginning of
[7:34]dua.
[7:32]He says, the one that wants to travel to Allah.
[7:39]Why does he use the world word travel?
[7:42]Because this is a journey to Allah.
[7:46]But it's a spiritual journey.
[7:48]It's a journey of the nefs.
[7:49]When you edify it and you discipline it, it's like a journey.
[7:52]You're traveling to Allah.
[7:56]And that's why we are all spiritual travelers and wayfairers.
[7:59]He says, Ya Allah, the one who wants to come to you,
[8:05]you're not far.
[8:07]But why is it for some of us it takes forever?
[8:10]Why does it seem like Allah has light years ahead?
[8:15]Because the imam says, he says, the reason why we feel Allah
[8:28]is far and it takes so long to get to him, it's
[8:29]not because he's that far.
[8:34]It's because my sins get in the way.
[8:35]The only barrier between you and Allah, brothers and sisters, is you.
[8:39]The only thing that prevents me from reaching Allah is my own
[8:47]ns, is my desires, is my ego, it's my own sins.
[8:49]They're a barrier.
[8:51]So the imam says remove the barrier and then you'll see reaching
[8:55]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is not that hard and it's not such
[9:01]a long journey but it's the sins it's this dya that keeps
[9:04]on distracting us and places a barrier between us and Allah subhanahu
[9:07]wa ta'ala so imul then comes to explain how to repent to
[9:14]Allah how do I remove these sins this barrier so that I
[9:19]can travel to Allah the imam mentions a few points, five points,
[9:24]five steps, practical steps that we can take in order for us
[9:31]to repent to Allah.
[9:31]All of this is found in dua Abu Hamza.
[9:33]When you examine it, you don't just read it like a dua,
[9:37]but you study it.
[9:39]You study it and you analyze it and you reflect upon it.
[9:42]You see, I immediata.
[9:48]Beautiful lesson number one.
[9:52]Immadam shows us that the first step for anyone's repentance and this
[10:02]is the most important component of repentance.
[10:04]If you want to summarize repentance in one word, it's this first
[10:09]condition.
[10:10]It's this first step.
[10:13]The first step towards repentance begins in the heart.
[10:16]feel guilty about what you did.
[10:20]As the imam says, if you feel guilty about what you did,
[10:28][snorts] if you feel regretful, remorse because you were far from Allah,
[10:35]because you weren't obedient towards Allah, because you were distant from Allah,
[10:38]that guilt is what will propel your toba to Allah subhanahu wa
[10:45]ta'ala.
[10:46]This is the most important part of Toba.
[10:48]But this is much easier said than felt because many of us
[10:54]we struggle in feeling guilt with sins.
[10:56]I sit and I want to repent to Allah.
[11:00]Allah says start in your heart.
[11:01]Feel that guilt.
[11:01]Feel terrible about what you did.
[11:03]Sometimes we struggle.
[11:05]I can't.
[11:06]How do I feel terrible about the sins that I did?
[11:09]The years that I wasn't religious that I didn't care about Allah.
[11:14]that I didn't pray, that I did haram, that I followed my
[11:16]desires and the dunya and my naps fooled me.
[11:20]How do I feel that guilt?
[11:25]Imm gives us three practical ways to invoke regret and guilt in
[11:30]our naps.
[11:29]Number one, this is very important brothers and sisters.
[11:34]If you find it difficult to feel that guilt and that regret
[11:38]which will grant you Allah's forgiveness, listen to the words of Imi.
[11:42]The Imam says number one or one way to feel guilt within
[11:49]you is to examine your relationship with Allah and you will realize
[11:56]that it's a oneway relationship.
[11:58]It's a one-sided relationship.
[12:01]Meaning if you examine your relationship with Allah, you will see that
[12:08]he's always been good towards you and I've always been bad towards
[12:13]him.
[12:14]I'm such an abusive person in this relationship.
[12:17]Allah is the Lord.
[12:20]He's the master.
[12:22]I am the I am the servant, the slave.
[12:25]Usually when you have a master who has authority over a slave,
[12:29]who's usually the abusive one, it's usually the master because he has
[12:33]so much power, right?
[12:35]No matter what the slave does, he's still not happy.
[12:41]He oppresses him.
[12:40]He beats him.
[12:43]He doesn't respect his slave.
[12:44]Why?
[12:45]Because he has the upper hand.
[12:47]Because he's the master and the other one is the slave.
[12:54]So it's always the masters that are abusing their slaves.
[12:58]Immad shows us that when we look at our relationship with Allah,
[13:02]it's completely the opposite.
[13:06]I am the I am the servant.
[13:08]I am Allah's slave, but I am the abusive one.
[13:12]I am the negligent one.
[13:13]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is the one who's so kind, who's so
[13:19]nice with me, who's so patient, who's so tolerant, who cares for
[13:22]me so much and I could care less about Allah.
[13:26]It's as if I'm the master.
[13:30]I treat him as if he's the slave.
[13:32]And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is still patient with me.
[13:35]He says this in these words in dua.
[13:38]He says, "Ya Allah, ever since I opened my eyes, you were
[13:46]drowning me with why does Allah give me so much benefactions?" Because
[13:52]he's trying to make me love him.
[13:55]It's like when someone is impressed with you and they just want
[13:59]to grab your attention.
[14:01]They bring you gifts.
[14:01]They send you a nice text message.
[14:04]What does that show?
[14:06]that shows that that person is usually in need of you.
[14:08]This is what Allah does with us.
[14:10]He's constantly sending me benefactions, favors just so I can pay attention
[14:20]to him, just so I love him.
[14:22]He's trying to buy my love.
[14:24]Why?
[14:24]Why does Allah even care about me?
[14:28]What am I in this universe?
[14:29]I'm a dot in this huge universe.
[14:30]I have absolutely no effect in this universe.
[14:35]Why does he care so much about me?
[14:37]It's because he's so generous and I see that I have the
[14:43]Lord of the universe.
[14:45]He's so care he's so caring.
[14:49]He's so concerned about my well-being.
[14:51]Ever since I was a child, he gave me good parents.
[14:53]He made sure that what they took care of me.
[14:57]He made sure that they fed me not just food, iman.
[15:00]He gave me so many opportunities to come to Allah subhanahu wa
[15:04]ta'ala.
[15:05]He's always thinking about me.
[15:06]The month of Ramadan, why does he even give me such a
[15:08]beautiful opportunity to come to him, to repent, to seek nearness, to
[15:16]accumulate good deeds?
[15:15]Why?
[15:16]Because he loves me.
[15:17]Because he cares for me.
[15:19]And what do I do in return?
[15:23]Im says you show me and love what do I give him
[15:34]back?
[15:31]Sins, negligence, disobedience.
[15:35]I don't care.
[15:36]I'm lazy.
[15:37]I could care less about salah when the adan time is there.
[15:43]Allah subhana wa ta'ala gives me so much and then he just
[15:46]asks salah from me and salah is just too much.
[15:49]as if I don't need Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[15:52]As if I'm telling Allah, "Ya Allah, I'm too busy for you.
[15:55]Please find someone else who has no life to come and pray
[15:59]to you." Why do I treat Allah in that way?
[16:00]The Imam says, "Your good is always coming down from the sky
[16:08]to us.
[16:11]But in return, we're always sending evil to Allah.
[16:16]Backbiting, gossiping, lying, listening to music, committing haram, neglecting the of Allah
[16:25]subhanahu wa ta'ala, not taking our religion seriously, not taking our relationship
[16:31]with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala seriously.
[16:33]Why?
[16:34]The Imam says, when you think about it, your heart will break.
[16:38]You'll see what a terrible servant you've been to Allah.
[16:43]Your heart will break.
[16:43]You'll tell yourself this is not me.
[16:45]My parents taught me that when someone shows you the smallest act
[16:51]of kindness, you act in a good way towards them.
[16:53]You repay their kindness.
[16:55]Then why is it that the master of all the kindness of
[16:59]the world, Allahel, I just don't care about him.
[17:04]I don't appreciate the that he's giving me.
[17:07]I could care less about pleasing him.
[17:09]My friends, yes, I'll do anything to please them, but Allahawel is
[17:12]on the bottom of my list.
[17:16]Why?
[17:15]IM then says, He says, "And every day Allah sends an angel."
[17:39]Listen to this.
[17:40]He says, "This servant of mine that I've sent him so much
[17:46]good, so many, this servant of mine, go and see what he's
[17:49]doing with the go and see if he's being appreciative." And the
[17:56]angel comes back every day and he gives Allah the report.
[18:00]The angel is like, "Ya Allah, I'm embarrassed to even tell you
[18:03]what he's doing.
[18:05]He's in a different world.
[18:05]He's worried about the dunya." Thank you, Habibi.
[18:09]Thank you so much.
[18:09]He's worried about the dunya.
[18:13]He's worried about his basketball game and football game.
[18:15]And he's worried about pleasing his friends.
[18:17]And he's worried about what?
[18:18]He's at the gym five hours a day.
[18:20]The last thing on his mind is, "You ya Allah, I'm sorry.
[18:24]What would you expect Allah to say?
[18:29]How dare he?
[18:28]I give him so much good and I'm the least of his
[18:33]priorities.
[18:34]But Imam Zam says, "Allah doesn't do that." What does Allah do?
[18:39]Allah says, he tells the angel, "It's okay.
[18:43]It's okay.
[18:42]I'll keep on showering his my benefactions upon him.
[18:47]my continuous evil doesn't prevent him from continuously being merciful with me.
[18:54]Which human being can tolerate that, brothers and sisters?
[18:56]Imagine you find someone who's in need.
[18:58]You tell him, "I'll take care of your expenses.
[19:00]Every month, I'll send you $5,000." And then when you send someone
[19:04]to go and see what he's doing with the money, you notice
[19:09]that he is using that money to disobey you.
[19:14]Wall would not tolerate that.
[19:15]Allah every day he hears the wealth that I send to him
[19:20]I use it for haram.
[19:23]I spend $100,000.
[19:23]I invite 500 people so that we dance together mixed and we
[19:31]disobey Allah subhana wa tala.
[19:32]Allah says I sent you wealth so that you do this with
[19:36]it.
[19:37]When there's people dying in when there's people that need this all
[19:40]across the world why are you spending it on haram?
[19:43]I am the one that sent you this.
[19:45]But does Allah stop the no?
[19:47]So Im Zam then says subhan he says subhan Allah I'm mesmerized
[19:55]by your generosity because I I can never treat someone that kindly
[19:59]if they continuously disrespect me in that way and disobey me with
[20:06]my own gifts.
[20:07]You're so tolerant.
[20:10]You're so great and you're so merciful.
[20:20]In the beginning when I was young, you were so merciful.
[20:24]And even up to now, you'll always continue to be merciful with
[20:28]me.
[20:29]So this, brothers and sisters, when we see our relationship with Allah,
[20:34]we should feel guilty because it's a one-sided relationship and he's the
[20:39]one that doesn't need us.
[20:40]and we're the ones that need him.
[20:41]It should be the opposite.
[20:43]So that will invoke some regret in my heart.
[20:46]Ya Allah, I'm not that type of person.
[20:48]Wallah, I'm not.
[20:50]I know it looks so bad.
[20:51]It looks so what I'm doing to you, but I'm not that
[20:57]type of person.
[20:55]That should make me feel bad.
[20:59]This is the first way I teaches us to invoke regret within
[21:06]our hearts.
[21:08]Number two, the Imam then tells you, think about why you treat
[21:12]Allah in that way.
[21:14]Why?
[21:14]Why am I so nice and polite with people, but with Allah,
[21:20]I just don't care?
[21:24]Imam.
[21:22]He says, he says, "Ya Allah, I know you're watching me.
[21:37]I know that you're there.
[21:38]You're watching me, but I don't know why.
[21:44]I'm not ashamed to sin when you're watching me.
[21:48]If it was anyone else besides you that was watching me, I
[21:53]would have behaved.
[21:53]You know how we behave when people watch us.
[21:56]We act like angels.
[21:58]When our parents come in, when an elderly person, sometimes I go
[22:04]to a sah and as soon as they see the s come,
[22:08]they all sit down very properly.
[22:10]They all become the best behaving angels.
[22:15]Right?
[22:12]Why?
[22:12]Because as we say we're ashamed at least in front of the
[22:18]say it what am I in front of Allah Allah who was
[22:21]watching you all that you weren't ashamed of Allahhaala you weren't ashamed
[22:26]of yourself in front of Allah Im Z asked this question why
[22:29]am I not ashamed to sin in front of Allah but I'm
[22:35]ashamed I'm embarrassed to sin or do anything that is ugly in
[22:39]front of other people.
[22:38]The Imam says, "Could it be because Allahawel is unworthy in my
[22:52]eyes?
[22:52]Could it be because I belittle Allah?
[22:55]I don't care about Allah." Zad, he comes to correct this.
[22:59]He says, "No, ya Allah, when I sin and I don't feel
[23:04]ashamed, even though you're watching me, it's not because I belittled you.
[23:08]It's not because I don't care.
[23:10]It's not because I don't believe you're watching me.
[23:13]No, I know you're watching me.
[23:15]Then why do I continue to sin?
[23:16]The imam says he says we continue to sin even though Allah
[23:28]is watching us for one reason.
[23:31]You know what that reason is?
[23:33]Because Allah conceals.
[23:35]When we commit sins, something ugly, something not nice in front of
[23:41]other people, what happens?
[23:41]They will not have mercy on us.
[23:44]They will never forget what we did.
[23:46]It will reshape how they think of us.
[23:50]They will expose us in front of people.
[23:53]They'll go on social media and talk about how I did this
[23:58]and that.
[23:59]So, I respect people.
[24:00]Why?
[24:01]Because I know they're not tolerant.
[24:04]They'll expose me.
[24:04]Allahel on the other hand I know he won't expose me.
[24:09][snorts] I know Allah conceals because he wants to give me as
[24:12]we said last night a chance to repent.
[24:15]He sees me committing sin after sin.
[24:17]There are some sins I've committed a thousand times in my life
[24:22]and Allah has has never exposed me.
[24:25]Why?
[24:24]Because he wants me to repent.
[24:27]Because sometimes when you're exposed in the public, it's hard for you
[24:30]to repent to Allah.
[24:31]When your reputation goes, people will not have mercy on you for
[24:36]20, 30 years.
[24:36]They will remember one word that you said in front of everybody.
[24:41]We're not merciful towards each other, brothers and sisters.
[24:43]But Allah is merciful.
[24:43]So what do we do?
[24:47]We take advantage of Allah's mercy, we're like since he won't do
[24:51]anything.
[24:52]Since he will conceal, let me let me just do whatever I
[24:58]want.
[24:57]Is that how brothers and sisters I see myself?
[25:01]That when someone is nice towards me, I take advantage of them
[25:05]being nice.
[25:06]This is how I treat someone that's too nice.
[25:09]Should Allah come and tell us, look, I think I've been too
[25:12]nice with you.
[25:15]Because when I continuously conceal your sins, you just don't care.
[25:20]You take that as an excuse to sin more and more.
[25:25]But I notice from each other.
[25:26]No, you're afraid.
[25:28]You have some decency in front of each other.
[25:32]In the public, you carry out yourself in a much more disciplined
[25:35]way.
[25:36]Do you want me, Allah says, to be like other people, less
[25:39]merciful, more strict?
[25:42]No, we don't want Allah subhana wa ta'ala to be more strict.
[25:46]Then why do we take advantage of his mercy?
[25:48]Then why do we push the limits?
[25:51]Why?
[25:52]And then im He says, "And the more I see Allah is
[26:02]merciful and tolerant and he is concealing, I push the limits even
[26:05]more.
[26:06]I feel more emboldened." It's like you break the law in front
[26:08]of the police and he does nothing.
[26:09]What are you going to do?
[26:13]Let me break it again.
[26:13]Let me break it again.
[26:13]Let me break it again and again.
[26:15]This is what I'm doing with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[26:20]I says, Why do I dare disobey Allah?
[26:29]He says because Allah is tolerant.
[26:31]Because he doesn't do anything.
[26:33]Because he's patient.
[26:33]If Allah strikes you back, will behave.
[26:37]He says, I have no in front of Allah.
[26:46]Why?
[26:44]Because you conceal.
[26:47]So instead of taking this as a reason to be motivated to
[26:52]repent to Allah to stop taking advantage what do we do we
[26:56]feel more emboldened since he won't say anything let me do more
[26:59]and more and more that is so when Allah treats you in
[27:09]such a merciful way when he is so nice with you don't
[27:11]take advantage don't push the limits don't trample the rights of Allah
[27:16]subhanaa With the law, brothers and sisters, we're like what?
[27:21]Soldiers, if the law dictates something to us, we don't dare break
[27:24]it.
[27:25]With the laws of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, who cares?
[27:29]You know why?
[27:28]Because Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala doesn't enforce his laws.
[27:33]He wants you to come and obey him through your own will.
[27:40]But some of us because we see there is no stick on
[27:45]our head.
[27:44]We're like you know what I don't care.
[27:48]How many times have I heard people I don't care.
[27:52]I remember once a mother called me from another state.
[27:54]She told me say please help me.
[27:56]My daughter she's in her 20s.
[28:00]She wants to marry a non-Muslim and he doesn't want to become
[28:03]Muslim.
[28:04]You know in Islam that's not allowed.
[28:06]A Muslim woman is not allowed to marry a non-Muslim man.
[28:10]And everything I tell her, she says, "I'm in love.
[28:14]I'm in love.
[28:15]Can you please talk to her?" I was like, "Okay, I'll try."
[28:18]But usually when people are in love, it falls on deaf ears.
[28:24]I'll try.
[28:26]So I talked to her.
[28:26]I told her, "Young, you know, young lady, your mother is upset.
[28:31]You know that in Islam, this is haram.
[28:34]Allah will not recognize your marriage.
[28:37]If you have kids tomorrow, they will not be your Islamic children.
[28:42]They will not be legitimate children.
[28:45]You know what she told me?
[28:47]Sayy, I'm going to be honest.
[28:48]I don't care.
[28:50]But at least she was honest.
[28:53]Do you know why she doesn't care?
[28:55]Because Allah allows her to behave in that way.
[28:58]Does the law allow you to say, "I don't care." No.
[29:00]They'll come and beat you down to the floor and arrest you
[29:06]and take you to the to the jail.
[29:08]If you dare say anything if you dare object to any law,
[29:10]but with Allah subhana t should say, "I don't care.
[29:14]I'm sorry, but I don't care." So, I couldn't take that avenue.
[29:17]I told her, "Okay, fine.
[29:20]You don't care about Allah.
[29:20]What about your mom?
[29:20]You don't care about your mom." She couldn't say, "I don't care
[29:24]about my mom." I told her, "At least for your mom.
[29:26]She raised you nine months.
[29:29]You were in her stomach.
[29:30]You were such a pain when you were a baby.
[29:33]She took care of you.
[29:34]She did everything for you.
[29:37]Now she's just asking one thing.
[29:39]Please just marry a Muslim.
[29:41]There are probably a billion Muslim men on earth.
[29:44]Is that too much to ask for?
[29:47]This person that you're in love with is more important than your
[29:53]mom.
[29:51]Here she said, "No, say it.
[29:54]That's true.
[29:54]I don't want to lose my mother because of even though I
[29:57]love him, but I don't want to lose my mother because of
[30:02]this individual but with Allah subhanana wa ta'ala I'm okay to lose
[30:08]allahel to please another human being when Allah is the source of
[30:11]everything that is good so I im shows us that once you
[30:17]think how we treat Allah how we belittle him how we take
[30:19]advantage of his tolerance of his mercy of his compassion this will
[30:27]make us feel bad because I will realize that's not me.
[30:31]That's not who I am because that's such a terrible thing to
[30:34]do to Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
[30:35]This will make me regret.
[30:39]This is number two.
[30:38]And finally number three, a third way that immediates us to repent
[30:49]to feel guilty about that disconnection from Allah.
[30:55]As the imam, he shows us how much time we have wasted
[31:02]in this dunya.
[31:03]How many opportunities Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has given me in my
[31:07]life.
[31:08]Allah only gives me one life, brothers and sisters.
[31:09]And with that life, I have so much potential.
[31:14]I can become like Salman Fari.
[31:19]I can become like Abu Hamza Tamali.
[31:22]But I settle for something much much much much less instead of
[31:27]using my time to invest in my which is eternal.
[31:32]I'm so preoccupied about this dunya that's so short and temporary and
[31:36]that can end any second.
[31:37]Immad says, "When I look back at my life and I see
[31:42]how many terrible decisions I have made, I have prioritized things that
[31:47]aren't important and I have neglected the important things in my life.
[31:52]I feel so terrible.
[31:52]Why did I waste my life?
[31:55]I should have spent every minute of my life with Allah subhanahu
[31:57]wa ta'ala because I only get one life." And once we die,
[32:02]we will feel regret.
[32:03]Brothers and sisters, the Quran says when we die, the Quran says
[32:09]we'll tell Allah, "Ya Allah, please let me go back to the
[32:10]dunya so I can do some good deeds." Allah will tell you,
[32:15]"No, if you regret once you die, you can't make you can't
[32:18]do anything about it.
[32:21]But if I regret now, I'm 20, I'm 30, I'm 40, I'm
[32:23]50, you can repent to Allah subhana wa ta'ala." So, I imbed
[32:27]he says if you want to feel he shows us if you
[32:31]want to feel that regret inside you look at your life what
[32:35]have you achieved Allah has given you so much potential why have
[32:39]you settled for less and the imam does this in such an
[32:43]emotional way this is probably the most emotional part of dua Abu
[32:48]Hamza when you read it you can't help your tears from coming
[32:51]down because the imam he speaks with a tone of someone that
[32:59]is crying and shedding his tears.
[32:59]He says, he says, "Ya Allah, I want you to help me
[33:04]as I cry over myself.
[33:08]I cry over my misery.
[33:13]Ya Allah, I've wasted my life chasing after the procrastination.
[33:19]I've put my hope into false things.
[33:24]I keep on telling myself inshallah next year, inshallah next year when
[33:28]I'm older I will turn to Allah.
[33:31]I'll take religion more seriously but until when for how long will
[33:34]this happen?
[33:35]The Imam says I have to cry over myself because I'm trapped
[33:38]in this endless cycle.
[33:42]Inshallah next year inshallah next year.
[33:56]He says, "When I think about what will happen to me, how
[34:01]I will leave this dunya and I'm going to a grave that
[34:06]is empty that I haven't furnished for my he says how terrible
[34:09]is my fate.
[34:11]Tomorrow I will leave this dunya.
[34:12]I will leave my beautiful comfortable house.
[34:15]You know where they will take me?
[34:18]They'll take me in a small grave.
[34:20]It barely fits your body.
[34:21]I remember a couple of months ago, there was a body that
[34:27]they noticed the the wasn't perfectly on the So, they wanted to
[34:31]just move the bodies, you know, just a little bit, bury the
[34:38]the body diagonally, slanted, but the was so narrow that they couldn't
[34:42]move it.
[34:43]They couldn't move the body.
[34:43]This is exactly how you have to bury it.
[34:46]They're taking me from my huge house into that small grave.
[34:52]I says, "Have I prepared my grave for my coming, for my
[34:56]arrival?" I haven't done anything.
[35:01]He says, "And I haven't furnished it." Yes, brothers and sisters, your
[35:08]you have to furnish it.
[35:09]How?
[35:10]Your good deeds they will what will keep you company in your
[35:16]grave.
[35:17]The imams of tell us in so many traditions you want to
[35:19]be in your grave.
[35:22]You want to be happy.
[35:22]You want to be kept company.
[35:26]You don't want to be alone.
[35:27]Your deeds are what will give you comfort in your grave.
[35:30]So he says, "And how can I not cry?
[35:39]And I don't know what my fate is.
[35:44]What's going to happen when I die?
[35:48]And on top of that, I see my naps is constantly trying
[35:52]to fool me.
[35:54]My nef is constantly telling me, "Don't worry, you still have a
[35:59]long life ahead of you.
[36:00]What do I do when the naps is fooling me all the
[36:06]time?" And I feel like the whole dunya is trying to what?
[36:10]Trying to mislead me.
[36:10]Trying to fool me and distract me from the day that I
[36:15]die so that I can invest a little in my and he
[36:25]says, subhan Allah, he uses a beautiful metaphor.
[36:28]He says, "And death is so close to me as if the
[36:33]wings of death are hovering above me." That's how close death is.
[36:37]Immula says death is so close.
[36:39]But yet my neph is saying it's okay you have time.
[36:45]Don't worry.
[36:45]This is where I zam begins to say abi.
[36:51]And remember I imbued is infallible.
[36:53]He's trying to teach us.
[36:54][snorts] Sit down and try to shed a few tears.
[36:58]Invoke that guilt.
[37:02]Imm turn towards Allah.
[37:04]These are such beautiful words brothers and sisters.
[37:06]Imam Z.
[37:08]Then he says, Im Zul says when I think of the day
[37:37]that my soul will be taken to the they will drag me
[37:39]out of my house that I was so comfortable in and they
[37:44]will take me to a dark narrow small grave because I haven't
[37:51]prepared myself for that day.
[37:52]He says, I cry because in the grave, those two angels will
[38:04]come to me and they will tell me, they will ask me,
[38:06]"Oh, so many questions.
[38:09]What did I do with my time in the I will not
[38:13]have an answer because I was so distracted.
[38:14][gasps] >> [gasps] >> IM says, "I cry for the day that
[38:43]Allah will call me to wake up from my death, the day
[38:45]of judgment, the day of resurrection.
[38:46]I will wake up.
[38:48]I will not be carrying anything from my wealth.
[38:50]I'll be all alone.
[38:53]I will be all alone afraid.
[38:54]I don't know what to do.
[38:58]I'll turn to other people.
[38:59]But everyone is distracted by their own self.
[39:03]Everyone is distracted.
[39:03]No one wants to help me.
[39:04]I have no one to turn to on that day.
[39:06]And thus Allah and those tears immedi let them be the motivation
[39:15]for you to change because you have a very difficult journey ahead
[39:18]of you.
[39:20]Immad says so prepare for that journey.
[39:23]This is brothers and sisters the third way I immediat.
[39:31]So this is number one Toba.
[39:34]Feel that regret through the three ways of immediata after you feel
[39:53]the guilt in your heart is to what?
[39:57]Is to admit to your mistakes.
[39:58]Is to confess your sins.
[40:03]Then imam says you want Allah to save you from your sins
[40:11]confess come clean tell Allah ya Allah I am the one that
[40:14]disobeyed you and Imad does it in the most beautiful way he
[40:21]says me me take the ownership be a man be someone who
[40:27]is honest Ya Allah, I am the one that when I was
[40:36]all alone in private, I was not ashamed.
[40:39]I disobeyed you.
[40:41]And even in in public in front of people, I disobeyed you.
[40:45]When I'm when it was private, there was no one looking at
[40:48]me.
[40:49]I was fooled into thinking Allah is not seeing me.
[40:52]So, I disobeyed you.
[40:52]Yes, it was me.
[40:54][snorts] So if I disobeyed Allah in private because I was fooled,
[40:57]then why do I disobey Allah in public?
[40:59]Wall, this is what surprises me.
[41:02]People committing haram and they put it on social media.
[41:04]It's like you're waging war with Allah.
[41:06]Keep your sins private in your house.
[41:09]He's dancing and singing without any shame in front of woman.
[41:16]And he puts it on Facebook.
[41:18]Where's the shame?
[41:21]Im says this is me.
[41:21]He's talking for us.
[41:29]I'm the one that committed those big sins.
[41:35]I am the one that dare disobey my master Allah.
[41:42]I am the one that disobeyed the Lord of the universe.
[41:48]Brothers and sisters, the imams of tell us that the only creation
[41:52]that dares to disobey Allah is the human being.
[41:56]Have you ever seen an animal disobey Allah?
[41:59]Have you ever seen an atom, a planet, a star disobey Allah?
[42:04]From the smallest things Allah created, electrons to the largest planets to
[42:11]the largest stars, they're always in a constant state of obedience to
[42:16]Allah.
[42:16]The only one, the only thing that dares disobey Allah is me,
[42:21]the human being.
[42:23]Tell Allah that.
[42:22]Tell him.
[42:30]And I have absolutely no shame, no fear.
[42:32]When I have an opportunity to do haram, I'll go and do
[42:36]it in public.
[42:38]So this is step two.
[42:38]Confess your sins in front of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[42:44]Step three, now that you realize, now that you have that guilt
[42:47]inside you, you have professed your sins, now you have to hold
[42:51]on to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[42:55]Do not lose hope in Allah.
[42:55]Because when you look at your future, when you look at your
[42:58]fate, it looks so dire.
[43:01]It looks so dim, so gloomy with all my sins.
[43:04]Make sure you do not lose hope in Allah.
[43:07]The Imam teaches you no matter how many sins you've done, make
[43:10]sure to never lose hope in Allah.
[43:12]And there's many passages for this, but I'll quickly share one of
[43:15]them.
[43:19]Imm says that on the day of judgment, He says, "Ya Allah,
[43:40]when I think about the day of judgment, I start losing hope
[43:42]because I remember that everything is recorded, all my sins, and you
[43:48]will present me with my book of your book.
[43:49]Brothers and sisters, my book, every single word I said, every single
[43:56]act I did, all the sins are recorded.
[43:59]Allah will bring it to me.
[44:00]Allah subhanana wa ta'ala will present me the evidence the testim the
[44:05]testimonies the witnesses where can I run away to where I can't
[44:08]run away from Allah subhana wa ta'ala so imam says when I
[44:13]think about that I start losing hope and if it wasn't for
[44:16]the fact that you ya Allah you told me to never lose
[44:21]hope says this in the holy Quran Oh you who have done
[44:31]so many sins, I don't care how many sins you've done.
[44:33]Allah says never be despondent.
[44:37]Never lose hope.
[44:37]This that's the worst thing you can do because Allah will always
[44:40]forgive your sins because the mercy of Allah is always greater than
[44:46]your sin.
[44:44]So Im says, "Ya Allah, if it wasn't for you saying that
[44:49]in the Quran, I would have lost hope.
[44:51]But you banned me.
[44:54]You forbid me from losing hope and thus I will never lose
[44:57]hope in you.
[44:58]Ya Allah, ya Allah, I have so much hope in you.
[45:10]I know, ya Allah, that I deserve punishment.
[45:11]I know, ya Allah, how evil I was, that I was negligent,
[45:17]I was disobedient.
[45:17]But still, because I know how generous and great you are, I
[45:22]still have hope that you will forgive me, ya Allah, that you
[45:25]will forgive my sins, that you will what?
[45:27]That you will accept my speak to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in
[45:31]that way so that you never lose hope.
[45:33]This is number three.
[45:37]Number four, after you have felt the guilt, after you have confessed
[45:40]to Allah, after you have clinged and held on to Allah subhanahu
[45:45]wa ta'ala with full hope, then im says come out and ask
[45:53]Allah for forgiveness and say, say, how beautiful the imam says it.
[46:04]He says, "Ya Allah, I ask you for my I ask you
[46:05]for because if you don't give me rahma, who will show me
[46:10]rah?" He says that a day will come in which I will
[46:16]die.
[46:16]My families will turn me left and right.
[46:21]He says, "A day will come in which my family will turn
[46:24]me left and right because I'm dying on my deathbed.
[46:28]I can't help myself.
[46:28]No one can help me.
[46:29]And then they will take me to the mtas to wash my
[46:32]body.
[46:33]While they cry over my body, he says, "Ya Allah, in those
[46:36]moments, I need your mercy.
[46:39]I will not lose hope in your mercy." [snorts] And then they
[46:42]will carry my janaza to my grave while they're crying.
[46:46]And they will say their final words.
[46:49]And then they will leave me all alone.
[46:51]My family will not stay with me forever by the brothers and
[46:54]sisters.
[46:54]I will be left all alone.
[47:01]Ya Allah, I will be so lonely in the I will be
[47:06]so alone.
[47:07]Who will I have to communicate to but you?
[47:10]So, ya Allah, have mercy on me now.
[47:12]Don't look at me now.
[47:12]I'm so smart.
[47:14]I I act so powerful and strong like I don't need anybody.
[47:17]One day I will be buried six feet under.
[47:20]I'll be all alone that day.
[47:23]Ya Allah, please don't neglect me.
[47:25]Please help me.
[47:24]So you ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for his mercy and his
[47:30]forgiveness.
[47:31]And then finally, step five, you end your Toba with this.
[47:34]When you ask Allah to forgive you, it doesn't just end there
[47:40]because you want Allah to give you protection from future sins.
[47:43]What's the point of Allah forgiving me for my sins and then
[47:45]tomorrow I go and do more sins because I'll fall right back
[47:51]into the same trap.
[47:51]So the Imam ends dua Abu Hamali in this beautiful way.
[47:56]He says, "Ya Allah, don't just forgive me.
[48:00]Give me the strength that I can stay away from sins for
[48:05]the rest of my life." And he asks for three things, brothers
[48:08]and sisters.
[48:09]If Allah gives you these three, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has given
[48:14]you the to stay away from sins.
[48:15]He says number one, "Ya Allah, please empty my heart from the
[48:22]love of because as long as I love the dunya, the dunya
[48:27]will take me right back in." And there are people who repent
[48:30]who they have those beautiful moments with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, but
[48:35]once again the dunya fools them, once again it attracts them, once
[48:40]again it lures them and they fall back into sin.
[48:42]So ya Allah he says My heart is filled with the love
[48:50]of if you empty of the love of then I will finally
[48:51]be at ease.
[48:53]I don't have to run after the dunya the whole day.
[48:57]This is number one he asks Allah.
[48:59]Number two he says once you empty my heart from the love
[49:01]of I ask you to put two things in my heart.
[49:06]I ask you I ask you, ya Allah, to fill my heart
[49:18]with im and with what?
[49:24]With certainty.
[49:23]So that I know that nothing will happen to me except what
[49:28]you have written for me so that I submit to you.
[49:32]Because when you submit to Allah subhanana wa ta'ala, this is when
[49:34]you start to obey him.
[49:36]So number one, ya Allah clear my heart from the love of
[49:40]dunya and insert infuse my heart with with certainty with and number
[49:45]three finally this is the last line of dua im says and
[49:55]I ask you ya Allah to make me content with whatever you
[50:00]have written for me.
[50:01]meaning ya Allah I want you to take greed out of me
[50:06]because as long as I am greedy I will always be discontent
[50:08]I'll always want more I'll never accept what you have written for
[50:14]me so ya Allah I ask you to give me contentment because
[50:16]if I am content with what I have I will not chase
[50:21]after the dunya anymore this is when I can finally settle down
[50:27]and I can work on my this is how I immedi am
[50:30]finishes dua Abu Hamali.
[50:33]My dear brothers and sisters, take a few moments in the month
[50:37]of Ramadan during the time of Sahar to go over some of
[50:42]these beautiful lines while you contemplate, while you shed some tears, while
[50:47]you are completely humble and dependent on Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
[50:52]read some of these beautiful duas of Im.
[50:55]They will change your life.
