[0:31]today we will be analyzing the third sermon of nature and this
[0:40]is a very known sermon it's very famous and it is also
[0:45]controversial this sermon is the sermon that some accuse a sharif ravi
[0:52]the the the one who compiled they accuse him of making it
[1:02]up and fabricating najib this is perhaps this is the reason why
[1:05]some question the authenticity of najib why because in the sermon and
[1:11]this is something rare that we see he actually speaks out about
[1:20]what happened how the khilafah was absurd from him and he speaks
[1:27]about why he made such and such decision why did he not
[1:30]fight for it and he justifies the decision that he made so
[1:37]therefore this is a controversial topic because today some of the uh
[1:43]mainstream you know the sunnis they say no imam ali alayhi he
[1:49]had no problem with the caliphs that came before him fatima they
[1:58]had no issue it's the shia today they're the ones who are
[2:02]making a big fuss and making a big deal about the otherwise
[2:05]imam ali he accepted the the first khalifa and the second and
[2:10]the third and then when the khilafah came to him he when
[2:13]the khilafah came to him then he um he took the he
[2:18]took the position of power making it seem as if there was
[2:23]no problem whatsoever and it is the shias that are causing this
[2:28]fuss and causing this division within the ummah but this sermon he
[2:34]speaks his mind and he talks about the views of the shia
[2:39]and in it are this sermon is basically the view of the
[2:46]shia today saying how imam ali is the greatest of the companions
[2:50]and in the sermon mentions that he was the greatest and this
[2:54]is this goes against the narrative today because today they come and
[2:58]they say abu bakr was the best and then umar and then
[3:00]uthman and then finally ali ibn abu and the second issue is
[3:08]that he mentions that the khilafah was usurped khilafah was unrightfully wrongfully
[3:14]it was taken away from him and rarely do we see imam
[3:19]ali alayhi salaam he gets into this topic see he was always
[3:24]trying to maintain the peace he was always trying to maintain the
[3:27]unity and he did not speak of this much or we don't
[3:34]have many recordings of imam ali speaking in this way you see
[3:38]you read you see he talks about he talks about the virtues
[3:42]of the adhd he talks about rasool allah he talks about the
[3:45]creation rarely he gets into these personal issues and in this sermon
[3:52]he actually discusses it now why is it that we don't see
[3:58]a lot of this type of rhetoric this type of talk from
[4:01]imam ali alayhi salaam one is that imam ali was trying to
[4:06]preserve the unity imam ali knew that if he comes out with
[4:07]full force and he keeps talking about issues like this that's going
[4:12]to cause wars that's going to cause division and his whole life
[4:18]his whole life cause was to raise islam and grow the muslim
[4:22]community he he spent he he sacrificed so much during the life
[4:27]of rasulallah to make islam grow as a religion he didn't look
[4:30]at it as it was just something for himself while the others
[4:33]when they came to power they were only looking at their own
[4:35]self-interest imam ali was not looking at his self-interest he allowed the
[4:41]interest of the muslims to surpass his own interest this is one
[4:47]and second even those times that we do have where imam ali
[4:51]alayhi salaam he spoke the followers of the albeit they were living
[4:58]under very strict and difficult times where they did not have the
[5:01]freedom to speak these type of things they were living under extreme
[5:07]takayah anyone who says anything because this kind of rhetoric this kind
[5:13]of speech it goes it bumps head with the with the uh
[5:16]rhetoric and the narrative of the authorities anyone who says anything that
[5:21]goes against the authorities right away they would be killed they would
[5:24]be persecuted and they would have to pay the price as many
[5:27]did pay the price fatima to zara paid the price these are
[5:32]the days of fatimiya paid the price imam and hussain paid the
[5:36]price and many of the sahaba of rasulallah they paid the price
[5:40]for their speaking out against the injustice of the time but this
[5:44]sermon it's called and the name of it is it's taken out
[5:51]from the last statement in the last sentence of the sermon where
[6:00]shakshaka it refers and it describes the foaming of the mouth which
[6:03]gushes out of the mouth of a camel or an animal so
[6:08]the camel when in times of um when when they're going through
[6:13]difficulties when they're going through some type of uh you know difficulties
[6:19]and challenges sometimes the the ma the camel they start foaming at
[6:25]the mouth foam starts developing at the mouth and this doesn't happen
[6:31]all the time and then once it subsides then the camel goes
[6:34]back to normal so here amir al-m he begins speaking he starts
[6:40]talking about how the khilafah was taken away from him the first
[6:43]and then the second and then the third and then the three
[6:46]groups the naked theme the castleteen and the maraqing the battle of
[6:50]jammeh the battle of safin and the battle of narawan were waged
[6:53]against him while he's talking at the end of the sermon someone
[6:58]comes and cuts him off someone comes and hands me a letter
[7:02]he begins to look at the letter he sees that there are
[7:07]some something important he kind of gets distracted from what he was
[7:12]saying then ibn abbas who is the cousin of amir and abbas
[7:19]is the uncle of amir mohammadin the uncle of rasulullah the uncle
[7:22]of rasulallah abbas his son abdullah bin abbas he was one of
[7:29]the top students of amir al-mu'min he takes his tafsir of the
[7:33]quran from and sunnis and shias relatively both accept his uh his
[7:36]words so ibn abbas he tells amir mu'min continue after the man
[7:42]after the man interrupted him this was a forming at the mouth
[7:56]meaning that this was something a spur of the moment i had
[8:01]to relieve that from my heart and now it's relaxed now it's
[8:08]calm so then ibn abbas he tells him allah nothing broke my
[8:17]heart as much as hearing that he's not continuing he's not saying
[8:23]what is really in his heart imam ali in order to preserve
[8:29]the unity in order to preserve the cause of islam and muslims
[8:33]he would not speak everything that was on his mind because his
[8:39]goal and his vision was to see islam grow of course this
[8:43]one not not all of the sahaba of rasulallah had this mentality
[8:46]in fact imam ali was the only one the others they came
[8:51]for the sake of power they killed they waged war they caused
[8:54]corruption they caused bloodshed he would always allow the the islam and
[9:03]the muslims to be surpass his own right the rights of the
[9:07]muslims and he would always give in his own right so this
[9:13]is why this is called it means foaming at the mouth and
[9:19]this is the title that is taken from the last word the
[9:23]last statement when was the sermon delivered this sermon through the context
[9:30]of the sermon we understand that this was delivered at the end
[9:34]of the life of after witnessing the many struggles that he faced
[9:39]the first kharif for the second the third then when khilafah came
[9:43]to him and then when the nakethine and the satan and the
[9:45]medicaid three groups of people they waged war against during the life
[9:55]of rasulullah he tells him you will be the one who will
[9:59]fight the naked in the castleteen and the medicaid who are the
[10:04]naked they are the ones who turn against their own allegiance after
[10:07]giving their word and giving their bay to imam ali they turn
[10:11]against it who were they they were the people who fought imam
[10:16]ali in the battle of jamal in the battle of jem and
[10:20]the camel they gave daya imam ali because 70 days before the
[10:23]death of the prophet was the day of ghadir the day of
[10:27]over a hundred thousand muslims on the way returning from hajj they
[10:30]stopped in khadir which is a little on the way you know
[10:34]just in the outskirts at leaving mecca after they had just left
[10:39]mecca allah stopped them and he raises the hands of amir mohammadin
[10:43]and he says and they wage a war imam ali goes to
[11:00]meet them in basra he tries to get them to stop they
[11:04]start shooting the arrows and this was led by the wife of
[11:09]the prophet and some of the top companions they were referred to
[11:13]as the nakethine and then the second group was the theme this
[11:18]was ma'awiya and his group of people who were in sham this
[11:21]time they blamed the murder of uthman on imam ali and they
[11:27]refused to give the ones who deviated away from the right path
[11:32]and then the third group that rasulullah told imam ali he's going
[11:37]to fight they are the marath means when something shoots off so
[11:41]they say that the arrow it shoots off of the bow it
[11:45]leaves the bow so they leave islam and they leave the religion
[11:50]just as the arrow leaves the bow and they were the group
[11:55]of people who were the kawaraj they used to pray they used
[11:58]to fast you look at them you see that they're they look
[12:02]very religious but in fact they are fighting the imam of their
[12:05]time and they wage the war and they started calling him so
[12:08]these are the group of people the three groups and he mentions
[12:13]the this term nakatheen castleteen and market now we move on to
[12:17]another very important point before we go into the sermon and that
[12:20]is the sources of the sermon what is the source of the
[12:25]sermon because the sermon is a little bit you know it's um
[12:32]it's a controversial sermon some have accused a sharif of fabricating and
[12:41]inventing it and they say this is the words of a sharif
[12:44]he never said these words however the fact of the matter is
[12:50]that if we analyze it we see that this is a sermon
[12:51]that this there's no issue with the source it's just that some
[12:55]they can't accept the truth for some if there's a narrative that
[12:59]goes against the mainstream narrative they're going to accuse it they're going
[13:04]to try to keep questioning it because it questions their narrative these
[13:12]are his words and we have many sources of this in addition
[13:19]to balaga [Music] he died in year 406 hijri 406 after hijra
[13:28]right now we are in 14 we are in the 1400s so
[13:33]over a thousand years ago now this was he died in 1015
[13:41]common era so this was over a thousand years ago he compiled
[13:47]but in addition to nigel balaga allamel amini a scholar who died
[13:52]about you know in the la he who lived in the last
[13:57]century he has a huge several volumes by the name of al-khadir
[14:04]mosul he lists over 28 sources to al over 28 sources and
[14:10]some of these were sources that were prior to meaning that this
[14:16]was a known sermon many people had the sermon memorized but during
[14:20]the time of sharif and when he died in 406 many people
[14:24]many of the shias and others they had the sermon memorized so
[14:28]you can't come and say that this goes back to sharif he
[14:31]invented this when we have proof that they existed before some examples
[14:37]uh one of the sunni scholars by the name of ibn josie
[14:41]he's a professor he's a big scholar he died in 597 hijri
[14:51]after sharif but in his version when he writes he begins it
[14:56]with a different intro he says when a man came and asked
[15:00]imam ali [Music] what is it that delayed you until now so
[15:05]imam ali then began to talk about the sermon so he says
[15:10]the fact and scholars they say the fact that ebner josie a
[15:16]sunni scholar he has a different intro to the same sermon it
[15:20]means that he had a different source a source that a sharif
[15:24]did not have or he had access to the same source that
[15:29]sharif had and this means that sharif radhi did not invent the
[15:34]sermon on his own another scholar ibn maitham al-bahrani is a shiri
[15:37]scholar but he says he found the sermon in two sources of
[15:43]individuals who died before the birth of a sharif and eben a
[15:52]big sunni scholar who has written a commentary on he says that
[15:57]he finds it funny that some attribute the sermon to a sharif
[16:02]he says how can anyone speak in this eloquence in this way
[16:06]and there are many other sources [Music] and many other scholars many
[16:15]other scholars they have documented this sermon he is the teacher of
[16:20]say the murder and he documents it and several times in his
[16:26]book and al-jamal in other books who lived before he mentions this
[16:31]so this is a an a known sermon it is narrated by
[16:41]sunnis and shias alike but of course obviously some are not going
[16:44]to like the what is said because what is said directly goes
[16:46]against the mainstream narrative now inshallah we will begin and the analysis
[16:52]of the sermon and inshallah we will continue on later emir begins
[17:00]the sermon sermon he begins i'm going to read the translation and
[17:44]then i'm going to explain it he says beware by allah the
[17:50]son of abu kuhafa this is referring to abu bakr abu bakr
[17:55]his name is his father's name is uthman and his father's title
[18:02]is just like imam his father was his title his kunya was
[18:09]so they say abu bakr is even though his father's name is
[18:19]uthman but they call him so he says beware by allah the
[18:23]son of abu kahata dressed himself with it meaning he he took
[18:29]the khilafah he dressed himself with it the caliphate and he certainly
[18:37]knew that my position in relation to it was the same as
[18:42]the position of the axis in relation to the hand mill meaning
[18:45]that the hand mill the the raja when they when they're grinding
[18:50]the wheat the axis is the pole it's right it's it's the
[18:53]part in the middle it's the essence it's the focal point he
[18:57]says he took it he he wore the shirt of the khilafah
[19:02]when he knew that i am the pole i am the axis
[19:06]i am the one who is the focal point when it comes
[19:10]to the khalafa so what is he trying to say he's trying
[19:13]to say that he took a position that does not belong to
[19:18]him when you're when you're when you're assuming the position of something
[19:23]else they say this is takamos when you're acting as if you
[19:29]have another role you're you're you're uh you're basically someone who's taking
[19:33]the position of something else they say they call that takamos in
[19:37]arabic basically you're wearing someone else's shirt because it's it's from the
[19:43]word means he knows that i am the one who deserves the
[20:03]position of the khilafah of the imam of the leadership after rasulullah
[20:08]and he know he knows that i am the axis and then
[20:13]this is one one he says i am the axis this is
[20:20]one and then he says the flood water flows down from me
[20:26]and the bird cannot fly up to me what does this mean
[20:33]this means that if the flood water flows down from a person
[20:36]that means this person's at the peak the peak of the mountain
[20:41]does the flood water come to the peak of the mountain no
[20:43]the the the flood water goes beneath the the peak of the
[20:50]mountain so he says meaning that i am the source of the
[20:55]knowledge i am the one who who gives the knowledge the fatwa
[21:00]the religion i am attached to the source of islam i am
[21:05]the one who knows the meaning of the quran i am the
[21:07]one who is the closest to rasulallah and even the bird cannot
[21:13]reach up to me what does this mean this means that i
[21:17]have such a high status in the eyes of allah in terms
[21:22]of the closeness to rasulallah in terms of understanding the quran that
[21:25]even the bird cannot reach me of course this is all metaphor
[21:30]it means that none of the sahaba can none of the sahaba
[21:35]can reach the status that i have and i am the one
[21:38]who is the source of the knowledge so basically he's saying i
[21:44]don't have an imam because i am the one who gives the
[21:48]knowledge the flood water comes down from me meaning the knowledge comes
[21:52]down for me meaning i don't receive anyone else's knowledge i don't
[21:56]receive anyone else's order and i don't need anyone in terms of
[22:01]knowledge and my knowledge is pure just like the the the flood
[22:05]water or the water that's melting on the peak of the mountain
[22:09]that is the purest that is the cleanest once it comes down
[22:12]it gets filtered it gets filtered and it becomes dirty but when
[22:17]it's coming from the source that is the cleanest that is the
[22:21]purest it is the highest and imam he's trying to tell people
[22:25]if you want the purest islam if you want the cleanest islam
[22:28]if you want the unfiltered unfabricated version of islam then you take
[22:32]it from me and then he says and then he says then
[22:50]i was the highest and i have the source of the knowledge
[22:53]i am the the peak but then he says but i pull
[22:58]i put a curtain against the caliphate and kept myself detached away
[23:04]from it he says even though i am the one who was
[23:05]the one who was the most worthy of the khilafah but i
[23:10]put a curtain i didn't go after it i didn't pursue it
[23:14]and the reason for that was in order to keep the peace
[23:18]the reason for that was because i saw that islam was going
[23:22]to be hurt if i go and i pursue a pursue the
[23:27]kanafa and cause bloodshed and cause fighting and in another part he
[23:37]says i will be at peace as long as the muslims are
[23:42]at peace but then he goes on to explain why why did
[23:46]i detach myself away and why did i not pursue it even
[23:51]though i am the one who is worthy and the khilafah belongs
[23:57]to me and i am the one who is supposed to be
[23:59]the first and the foremost so he he begins to explain why
[24:07]he says basically he says i saw that i had two options
[24:32]the reason why i detached myself away and i didn't go and
[24:39]fight i didn't go and you know cause a problem and cause
[24:42]a fitna was because i saw what he says the first option
[24:49]he says the first option that i had he says i saw
[24:54]that i the the decision that i had was to fight with
[24:57]a broken hand can anyone fight with a broken hand no you
[25:02]can't so he's trying to say that i didn't have supporters i
[25:06]didn't have i didn't have the muslims supporting me standing with me
[25:11]even though they knew that i was the one who was worthy
[25:15]of the khilafah even though they had given me the bay'a seventy
[25:18]days before the death of rasulallah the fact of the matters that
[25:24]was outnumbered after the death of the prophet yes there were many
[25:27]of the sahaba that believed that imam ali was worthy and the
[25:32]khilafah belonged to him but they weren't going to come and you
[25:35]know put their lives at risk they weren't going to come and
[25:39]get arrested and and caused problems for themselves because the others they
[25:44]had brought an army they had established martial law and anyone who
[25:48]would stand against them right away this person would be killed right
[25:51]away this person would be arrested right away this person would you
[25:55]know lose their status in the community paid the price that's why
[26:01]father died within 70 days or 90 90 days after the death
[26:07]of rasulullah one of the companions he paid the price and several
[26:12]several of the companions of rasulullah they were marginalized they were sidelined
[26:19]because they had a position that was close to amir and mohammed
[26:22]they wanted the support of amir and mu'mini so he said i
[26:26]didn't have the supporters i saw that i could either fight with
[26:33]a broken hand or oh i be patient enduring the blight the
[26:42]the blinding darkness of tribulation so basically amir al-anmin had to choose
[26:48]either to fight and not have supporters and that would break the
[26:52]unity that would cause problems and he would not gain what he
[26:55]wanted to and or second he chooses patience and the fact of
[27:05]the matter is that the situation a lot of people today they
[27:06]come and they say why didn't imam ali fight why didn't imam
[27:08]ali say anything he tried several times he tried several times but
[27:16]the issue was very difficult the narration says that after the khilafah
[27:21]was taken away from him some of the companions they stood against
[27:26]abu bakr and they told him no this does not belong to
[27:30]you but of course they had established martial law even someone like
[27:35]imam ali salam he was brought out of his house and forced
[27:38]to give baya some of the companions of rasulallah historians sunnis and
[27:43]shias they say that fire was taken to the house of fatima
[27:49]now some they come and they say no there was a threat
[27:50]of fire but there is a lot of proof to suggest that
[27:57]no fire was taken to the house of fatima and this is
[28:01]these are clues from sunni and shia books so imam ali salaam
[28:06]he saw that he was outnumbered it is said that his companions
[28:12]they came to him and they tell him you are the one
[28:15]that belongs to you he tells them tomorrow i want 40 of
[28:19]you 40 of you to come have your heads shaven and come
[28:26]if you if i have 40 i will know that we i
[28:29]will i will do something about it and and we will fight
[28:31]and we will try to take the khilafah the next day he
[28:35]saw two or three people come salman mahdad and abudha and then
[28:42]ammar came a little bit late so no one came no one
[28:48]no one was willing to risk it he tells them go this
[28:53]is not the time this is not the time i have a
[28:55]i have a will from rasulullah he tells me if you have
[29:01]supporters then you do something but if you don't have supporters then
[29:04]leave it and be patient because he knew that islam was a
[29:11]young religion and there were many that wanted to cause division wanted
[29:14]to cause division and weakness within the muslims you know one of
[29:19]the first individuals who came to emirate and pledged his support was
[29:25]one of the worst enemies of rasulallah he fought against the prophet
[29:35]at the end of his life at the end of the life
[29:38]of the prophet he joined the religion of islam he was the
[29:40]first who comes to emily and tells him they took the khilafah
[29:43]from you you have to come and fight amir mean tells them
[29:47]leave you don't want the you don't want to cause your aim
[29:51]your intention is not pure you just want to cause division within
[29:54]the muslims so he he didn't allow that he always stood with
[30:00]his principles and his values he didn't allow his his aim and
[30:04]his ambition to come in the way of his values and many
[30:08]people do that today many people they allow their ambition their goals
[30:13]what they want in life even if it's something good they allow
[30:16]that to come in the way of the values he says purity
[30:22]cannot be built upon something false i can't build a khilafah that
[30:26]is pure upon bloodshed that is wronging others that is causing problem
[30:32]that is causing fitnah so he did not pursue it so he
[30:38]says i saw that i could either fight with a broken hand
[30:43]or i be patient on a tribulation that is blinding that makes
[30:53]the elder person grow older and the younger one become very old
[31:02]and a man struggles in it until he meets his lord meaning
[31:05]that it's not easy and my dear brothers and sisters today until
[31:10]today the struggles that we are facing as muslims as shias it
[31:15]goes back to the day that was taken from amir al-mu'min because
[31:20]the ummah was diverted he saw that he if he fights it
[31:26]was going to cause a worse problem he wanted to at least
[31:29]allow islam to grow a little and then he will be able
[31:32]to guide uh and guide from a a way that is even
[31:39]though he's not in the position of leadership but he will still
[31:42]be able to guide as he did so so this is the
[31:46]the first part of the sermon now several points why did imam
[31:52]ali alayhi salaam praise himself some people say this is strange you're
[31:55]not supposed to praise yourself in islam where he says why would
[32:11]anyone praise themselves this is not the way of the albeit the
[32:15]answer here is not praising himself imam ali is revealing the truth
[32:21]that has been neglected the truth that has been sidelined revealing the
[32:26]truth is different from coming and wanting praise when imam ali wants
[32:31]to guide people when imam ali wants to teach people he has
[32:34]to tell them his position his status stating your rightful position is
[32:39]not self-praise imagine there is a you know someone is sick and
[32:43]there's a group of people and one of them is a doctor
[32:46]the doctor when the doctor comes and says i am the doctor
[32:50]let me cure this person this is not the doctor curing himself
[32:53]this is the doctor announcing that i am qualified to be able
[32:57]to cure this person let me be the one who who takes
[33:00]the leadership let me be the one who takes the the authority
[33:04]you saw muslims each one fighting the battle of german came the
[33:10]battle of narawan the battle of safin and each one of the
[33:14]caliphs before him they came and they caused problems they removed the
[33:17]ummah from the right path that it was supposed to be on
[33:20]so he saw that all these problems told them i am the
[33:26]one anna i am the one who who is who is at
[33:29]the peak i am the one who is the pool in in
[33:33]when it comes to when it comes to islamic leadership so this
[33:40]is one point second is he's coming and saying i am the
[33:43]highest i am the poor is this proven or is this just
[33:49]his own words the answer is yes he this is proven the
[33:53]imam proved it through the words of rasulallah says i am the
[34:00]city of knowledge and ali is the gate when when all of
[34:04]the companions turn to imam ali in order to seek knowledge abu
[34:08]bakr turned to him amar turned to him uthman turned to him
[34:11]all of the companions they would seek knowledge from imam ali because
[34:14]they know that he is the most knowledgeable he never asked any
[34:17]of the sahaba for questions he would only ask rasulallah a third
[34:22]point is why would imam ali complain this is you hear this
[34:26]he's it's as if wha why would he say this is it
[34:34]imam ali complaining aren't you supposed to be patient this is also
[34:37]an issue being patient is one thing imam ali was patient i
[34:41]did not cause division i did not cause problems but stating the
[34:47]truth is something else he's stating the truth so that people know
[34:51]the truth so that people know that the khilafah was taken away
[34:54]from the rightful source now here the next part inshallah we will
[35:00]continue in the following week he he comes and he says i
[35:10]i saw he he comes and he says that um he says
[35:18]either fight with a broken hand or be patient and then he
[35:23]comes and he says what he chose and why he chose that
[35:27]i saw that patience was something that was needed right now right
[35:32]now at that moment it was the wiser decision i was patient
[35:43]so i adopted patients although there was pricking in the eye and
[35:47]suffocation in the throat meaning that the patience was not easy imagine
[35:51]you're being patient and you have a throne you have a throne
[35:54]a thorn in your eye or you have something suffocating your throat
[36:01]can you be patient with that if you have something in your
[36:04]eye you're not going to be able to be patient or if
[36:06]you have something blocking your airway you're not going to be patient
[36:08]amino says i had to choose the path of patience because i
[36:14]couldn't fight and that was a very bitter patience that was a
[36:18]very difficult act of that i had to endure inshallah in the
[36:22]following week we will continue where we left off alhamdulillah foreign
