[0:35]i would like to begin by giving you all my condolences on
[0:42]the martyrdom anniversary of imam muhammad who his martyrdom anniversary coincides with
[0:54]the seventh of the day like tomorrow and tonight is the eve
[1:02]of the martyrdom of this great imam who was responsible for spreading
[1:07]the knowledge of rasoolallah also the 8th of the day after tomorrow
[1:25]is the day of the shahadah the martyrdom of muslim the cousin
[1:33]and the confidant of imam and hussain who imam hussain sent him
[1:39]to kufa and after the people of kofa gave him allegiance killed
[1:48]a arrested muslim and killed him while hussein was on his way
[1:53]headed to while he was on his way headed to iraq he
[1:58]received news that muslim had been killed now we will we will
[2:04]continue inshaallah with what we began and this is the ninth session
[2:09]that we've had on the commentary on the beautiful dua that has
[2:18]came to us through imam zain and abedin alaihissalam the imam whose
[2:24]name and title is the adornment of the worshipers and it is
[2:31]no surprise that we have this beautiful dua the dua of the
[2:34]honorable traits where the imam alayhi salaam teaches us the best manners
[2:42]through his supplication through speaking to allah subhanahu wa so we come
[2:47]to nuan he reminds us in this portion of the of the
[2:53]dua that we will cover tonight the imam speaks about the power
[2:59]of allah one of the qualities of god is that allah subhanahu
[3:06]ta'ala is the omnipotent allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is the all-powerful allah
[3:20]the omnipotent meaning this is one of the qualities of god is
[3:25]that allah is the all-powerful no one is more powerful than allah
[3:30]and he has unlimited power because the moment allah subhanahu ta'ala if
[3:37]you limit the power of god then he's not god anymore so
[3:40]allah is the one the absolute who has unlimited power and that
[3:49]is al-qaeda so when we know when we are speaking to allah
[3:52]and we know and we acknowledge that we are worshiping and we
[3:58]are obeying a lord who is that brings comfort to the believers
[4:05]when you know that everything is in the hands of god that
[4:10]brings you comfort because you know that the solution is in the
[4:16]hands of allah and allah is also the most knowledgeable if allah
[4:20]decided to deal with me in such a way this is because
[4:23]god knows what's best so i surrender to the will of allah
[4:28]subhanahu tahadah and allah has destined for me because no one can
[4:31]go against what god has destined for them this is why allah
[4:38]is meaning allah subhanahu ta'ala whatever allah wants will go and if
[4:43]we want it if it is its agreements with what allah wanted
[4:47]it will go but if it's not it will never happen no
[4:50]matter what we do it will never happen so knowing that god
[4:58]is the most powerful it's comforting in one sense and it also
[5:02]keeps us in check when you know that there is a power
[5:06]that is stronger than you a power that will hold you accountable
[5:09]you're going to be very careful the moment people start minimizing and
[5:16]not caring about the power of allah and not thinking about the
[5:21]repercussions of their actions that's when people start misbehaving that's when people
[5:24]start oppressing this is why you see in some countries as soon
[5:29]as the police the force are not are not you know available
[5:34]the looting and the stealing and the crime rates go up so
[5:39]power is not a bad thing power is a good thing but
[5:43]the power has to be just and this is something that we
[5:44]find with allah allah is the all-powerful and he is just so
[5:50]now in this portion of the dua the imam reminds us he
[5:57]reminds us of the power of allah he says he says oh
[6:20]allah bless muhammad and his family and we see that in every
[6:24]new segment of the imam and then he says let me not
[6:38]be oppressed while you can repel it from me meaning allah you're
[6:42]the one who has the power so you have the power to
[6:49]protect me if i'm being oppressed allah subhanahu ta'ala has the total
[6:55]authority and no person in this life can get things their way
[6:58]without allah so he says oh allah i turn to you when
[7:03]i'm oppressed in times of difficulty i turn to you o allah
[7:11]let me not be oppressed and let me let me not oppress
[7:20]others while you have the power to restrain me means oh allah
[7:25]you are the powerful so protect me from oppressors and also protect
[7:31]me from being an oppressor a lot of people don't do that
[7:36]sometimes people they're always asking allah protect me from this oppressor and
[7:40]this oppressor and this person but do people times do a dua
[7:46]asking allah oh allah don't let me be an oppressor many people
[7:49]don't do that god and this is why this is called the
[7:53]honorable traits because the imam pays attention and brings to our attention
[7:59]certain qualities that we have to ask allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for
[8:03]don't allow oh allah don't allow me to sin stop me before
[8:10]i go further away and falling into the oppression he says he
[8:17]says oh allah don't let me be an oppressor while you can
[8:23]stop me a lot of times we do do all we want
[8:24]certain things in life i want people say i want to be
[8:30]a multi-millionaire i want to be a president i want to be
[8:32]a king i want to have power i want to have authority
[8:34]you know that sometimes when allah does not give you that power
[8:38]that thing that you're asking for the thing that makes you very
[8:43]powerful very strong that is perhaps allah's way of protecting you so
[8:48]that you don't become an oppressor so that you don't fall in
[8:52]the traps of shaytan and oppress one of the scholars he used
[9:00]to say we don't have the power of haroon the man who
[9:02]who killed he was the khalifa and he killed the imam musa
[9:06]he was a tyrant he says we don't have the power of
[9:11]haroun this is why we curse haroon if we have the power
[9:14]of harum we might become like so we have to be very
[9:17]careful so here the imam is saying oh allah protect us so
[9:23]that we don't be become oppressors and then the imam moves on
[9:34]he says let me not be misguided while you are able to
[9:41]guide me oh allah the guidance comes from you i cannot guide
[9:46]myself i can't help myself i am in need of allah is
[9:51]in the hands of allah this is why we have to ask
[9:56]allah every day every day in our prayer what do we say
[10:01]guide us o to guide me to the right path the path
[10:14]of those who you have guided and you have blessed not those
[10:16]who are astray every day this is a reminder we have to
[10:22]remind ourselves this when we're praying and when we do this this
[10:27]is a reminder that the guidance the real guidance comes from allah
[10:32]doesn't come from yourself it doesn't come from anything else true guidance
[10:36]comes from allah if you're guided if you're doing something good this
[10:41]is because god is blessing your life and you have to thank
[10:46]allah for that blessing allah that is the person who is guided
[10:59]al-mahdi the one who is the guided one woman and the one
[11:09]who allah does not guide the one who allah lets go astray
[11:13]then no one will be able to guide this person can someone
[11:16]else guide you if allah does not guide you this is why
[11:21]we have to ask allah for the constant guidance my dear brothers
[11:26]and sisters someone might say i'm already guided i follow the bait
[11:29]i follow the quran i follow the prophet i pray i've been
[11:33]to hajj i do this why do we need to constantly ask
[11:36]for guidance because guidance is a continuous thing it's like electricity the
[11:41]moment electricity or the internet cuts off that's it you're disconnected so
[11:47]you need to make sure that you have the constant guidance you
[11:51]need to make sure that the guidance is continuous until the moment
[11:55]we die there are a lot of people they were guided at
[11:58]one point in their life and then later on maybe at the
[12:02]end of their life they were misguided maybe they made a wrong
[12:06]decision and iblees took them away shaytan took them all there are
[12:10]many examples of this some of those who are with the prophet
[12:13]some of those who were in the battles with the prophets but
[12:16]later on some of you are going to turn back over your
[12:25]heels so we have to constantly ask for the constant guidance and
[12:30]then he says he says oh allah you are the powerful you
[12:39]are the one who will protect me from the oppressors protect me
[12:42]from being an oppressor you're the one who will guide me oh
[12:46]allah keep me from becoming poor and in need of others we
[12:51]are always in need of allah there's no question about that we
[12:55]are al-fakhar we are constantly in need of allah no matter how
[12:59]rich you are in this life you're you're poor and you're in
[13:03]need of god but he says don't make me be in need
[13:07]of other people especially those people who want to take advantage of
[13:10]me people who want to abuse me people who don't have my
[13:13]interest in mind let me not be poor while with you is
[13:21]abundance my dear brothers and sisters the real sustenance comes from the
[13:31]rest comes from allah a lot of times we're running after our
[13:36]dunya we're running after sustenance and we start chasing this person and
[13:39]that person here and there and we forget that it's allah some
[13:44]people they delay their prayer some people they don't pray some people
[13:48]they don't do their obligations you tell them hajj they say no
[13:52]no next year next year next year who knows you have a
[13:56]next year my dear brothers and sisters last year some people i
[14:00]told them go to hajj they said next year say yet i
[14:04]promise you next year we'll go this year there's no hatch we
[14:09]have no guarantees my dear brothers and sisters but some people they
[14:12]put off allah they compromise god and their duties to god even
[14:18]though it is allah who gives you the risk and the happiness
[14:20]and the sustenance and everything that you have in this life for
[14:23]the sake of this dunya here in allah to make the person
[14:36]reciting the dua acknowledge that the real sustenance comes from god and
[14:42]no one else and then the imam moves on he says and
[14:52]let me not be rebellious while my existence is all from you
[14:56]how can i oh allah you protect me you protect me from
[15:02]going astray from being rebellious because everything that i want in my
[15:07]life is from you how can we transgress when all that we
[15:10]have is from allah subhanahu ta'ala one of our great scholars he
[15:19]narrates this hadith from amir and minion who was narrated from one
[15:22]of the companions of amir and women by the name of al-asbad
[15:27]he says a man came to amir and he tells him i
[15:32]want to sin i have no control of my desires i want
[15:36]i always want to i crave the sin some people are like
[15:38]that they have no control he says i crave it and i
[15:44]want to sin so the imam alaihissalam tells him if you don't
[15:47]obey your lord then don't eat from the sustenance that your lord
[15:52]gives you don't eat from it so here the imam says and
[15:57]let me not go astray when everything that i have is from
[16:01]you and then the imam tells him and if you obey the
[16:06]enemy of god then leave the kingdom leave the dominion the monk
[16:09]of god and go to another kingdom can we do that today
[16:14]someone doesn't like the tax laws of the united states they will
[16:17]go to another country they will go to a different country they
[16:20]don't like the president of this country they'll go and live somewhere
[16:23]else the laws of this country don't apply when you go somewhere
[16:27]else but can i say i don't like the laws of god
[16:29]and i'll go to a different kingdom i'll go somewhere else that's
[16:33]not possible because allah and then he says and if you are
[16:41]not satisfied with the you're not satisfied with the destiny that allah
[16:46]has given you then just simply ask for a different god is
[16:50]that possible of course the imam is making the man realize that
[16:55]no all my sustenance is from god i'm under the dominion the
[17:00]mulk of god and there's no escape from the government of allah
[17:10]asking for forgiveness and pardon because after you come to the realization
[17:15]that everything is in the hands of god the power and the
[17:19]sustenance and the wealth and the hidayah and everything is in the
[17:25]hands of god so he says your forgiveness we have to seek
[17:43]the forgiveness of allah before anyone else before anything else and i
[17:47]aim for your pardon your afu and i yearn for your forbearance
[17:57]and i have confidence in your kindness and then he says i
[18:16]come to you asking for forgiveness for pardon for forbearance for kindness
[18:23]but i haven't done anything to deserve that what have we done
[18:27]when we ask allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in another dua you see
[18:32]that imam says oh allah don't treat me with your justice but
[18:37]rather treat me with your mercy and kindness because if allah were
[18:41]to treat us with his justice we would all die what have
[18:47]i done what good have i done in my life that would
[18:49]deserve paradise everlasting paradise we worship allah for a few years compared
[18:57]to allah has given us we haven't done much so he says
[19:02]oh allah i haven't done anything for though i have nothing with
[19:14]me which entitles me to your forgiveness and nor is there anything
[19:18]in my actions which would make me deserve your pardon what have
[19:20]we done my dear brothers and sisters compared to what allah has
[19:25]given us we haven't done anything if you sit and you try
[19:32]to count all of the blessings of god you would never be
[19:33]able to count them all so here we're acknowledging that we are
[19:40]powerless oh allah i'm powerless i'm under the mercy of god i
[19:45]haven't done anything to deserve the kindness i'm under your mercy if
[19:49]you want to be merciful with me then be merciful with me
[20:03]he says and i have nothing after i judge myself when i
[20:07]want to come and look at all of my good deeds that
[20:12]i've done i see that my bad deeds my misdoings my lack
[20:14]of bad maybe i haven't done something bad but i haven't done
[20:20]enough good he says after i judge myself i see that i
[20:25]have nothing except your grace the only thing that i look forward
[20:33]to is for your grace and bless muhammad and his family and
[20:38]be gracious to me now here the imam says because when you
[20:45]do salawat and you see throughout this dua there's constant salawat upon
[20:51]muhammad because when you do salawat that is a dua that allah
[20:58]will surely accept why because allah says upon the prophet or you
[21:11]people who believe send your salutations this is a that is definitely
[21:15]accepted so he says he says send your salutations upon muhammad accepted
[21:27]and along with that make me a part of muhammad and be
[21:32]gracious with me here this is the etiquette of dua that we
[21:36]learned from the imams do salawat say allah muhammad muhammad so that
[21:50]this dua is accepted the first part of the door is accepted
[21:53]allah is surely more generous to if he accepts the first he
[22:00]will accept the last part of the dua and then he says
[22:26]give me the success give me the ability give me success for
[22:31]that which is most pure and employ me in what is most
[22:40]pleasing to you meaning oh allah i have no power you use
[22:42]me to something that is good ask allah o allah bring me
[22:47]closer to you make me be one of those who speak with
[22:51]guidance who have piety who are pure who do things that satisfy
[22:58]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala you make me the way you want me
[23:03]to be you mold me the way you want me to be
[23:06]and guide me to that path and then he says let me
[23:22]walk on the most exemplary path and let me live and die
[23:30]on your creed meaning allah make my life be a life that
[23:34]makes you satisfied with me and make my death be a death
[23:39]that also makes you satisfied with me and my death be on
[23:44]the death of hidayah on your on your creed allah my dear
[23:51]brothers and sisters we need to constantly ask allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[23:55]for the blessing and for the guidance and we conclude by asking
[24:01]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to bless you all once again my condolences
[24:05]to you all on the martyrdom anniversary of imam muhammad
