[0:03]foreign could stay with me you know where to go wallet alhamdulillah
[0:44]foreign one of the greatest blessings from Allah upon us is the
[1:15]ability to sleep the ability to rest sleep is one of the
[1:26]biological things that something that happens to the human body Allah Allah
[1:33]has programmed the body in a way where after several hours of
[1:39]being awake the body needs to sleep and in fact there are
[1:44]many benefits to sleep if someone doesn't sleep they're going to suffer
[1:47]they're going to die if they don't sleep some of the biological
[1:52]processes that begin to happen when a person sleeps is that the
[2:00]brain it begins to store information so the information that you are
[2:05]getting during during the day it gets stored while you're sleeping while
[2:10]you're sleeping and it gets rid of the toxic waste and the
[2:14]nerve cells begin to communicate and reorganize and this helps support the
[2:22]brain function and the body begins to repair the cells and it
[2:26]restores the energy and releases molecules like hormones and proteins these are
[2:32]some of the biological medical benefits of sleeping and Allah subhanahu wa
[2:39]ta'ala discusses it in the Quran as one of the signs of
[2:41]Allah from the signs of God is that you sleep at night
[2:50]this is one of the signs Allah talks about many of the
[2:55]signs of God the creation of the Son and the stars and
[2:58]the Earth and all of that one of the signs of Allah
[3:03]is the ability that Allah has programmed us in a way to
[3:09]sleep in another verse Allah says in the Quran the day the
[3:20]time that you are awake and the night time Allah made it
[3:26]for us to us now there are some beings there are some
[3:32]animals nocturnal animals where at night they're awake like an owl for
[3:37]example but the human being Allah has programmed the human being to
[3:42]sleep at night and this is why even experts they say that
[3:47]if a person is sleeping during the day that won't make up
[3:50]for the sleep at night the energy that your body benefit the
[3:55]benefit that you get when you sleep at night this is better
[4:01]and greater than the sleep that you get during the day in
[4:05]a Hadith he says and this is what the experts are saying
[4:18]it helps your brain function meaning it's the sultan it's the king
[4:29]of the intellect it's what makes your intellect and the brain function
[4:35]when you're sleeping and that it is the sleep is what helps
[4:41]the body grow the sleep is what helps the body consume and
[4:44]receive that nutrition and this is why if a person is unable
[4:54]to sleep if someone has some slept deprivation like many of us
[4:57]during the month of Ramadan you see that it's really hard to
[5:03]think it's really hard to process certain things and it's difficult now
[5:08]sleep is important and Allah talks about it and the Quran and
[5:15]the Hadith is mentioned it's something important now some people they sleep
[5:22]more than what they're supposed to if you sleep if a person
[5:27]sleeps what's the normal hours of sleeping six to eight hours if
[5:30]someone sleeps for six hours six hours a night and they live
[5:39]for 80 years that means they have slept for how much they
[5:44]have slept for if you've slept six hours that means you've slept
[5:49]20 years if you live 80 years you've slept for 20 years
[5:56]and if you sleep for eight uh if you sleep for eight
[5:58]hours then you then you have one-third if you've slept for eight
[6:06]hours then you've slept one third of your life and if you've
[6:11]slept for six hours then you've slept one fourth of your life
[6:13]so this is why some people they don't sleep only six hours
[6:19]they don't sleep only eight hours some people sleep for 10 and
[6:25]12 and 13 hours a day now when it comes to sleep
[6:27]sleep is important however if you sleep too much it could also
[6:34]become not good there are some narrations there are some narrations from
[6:39]the other bait from rasulullah that say too much sleep is also
[6:46]not good in a Hadith be careful from sleeping too much foreign
[7:02]the person who their whole life they're spending and sleeping or a
[7:07]big part of their day a big part of their 24 hours
[7:09]they're spending it sleeping the person on the day of judgment will
[7:16]come they will come like a poor person on the day of
[7:18]judgment why because the time that they should be reaping the reward
[7:23]the time that they should be benefiting themselves that time they spent
[7:28]it sleeping so when they go to Allah on the day of
[7:35]judgment they won't have much to offer foreign Allah does not like
[7:48]when someone sleeps too much excessive sleeping and excessive farage meaning having
[7:53]too much time you're not benefiting from your time because at the
[7:58]end of the day Allah has put me here I have duties
[8:03]I have an objective I have a role I have a purpose
[8:05]here some of us we live our lives as if we don't
[8:09]have a purpose we live our lives we're just having fun and
[8:14]we're just sleeping and eating that's it we're not doing anything else
[8:17]does not want us to not be productive Allah wants the men
[8:23]the believer to be productive and when a person is sleeping too
[8:29]much then this person is not going to be productive this person
[8:31]is not going to be beneficial this person's not going to be
[8:34]a person that gives back to society and a Hadith from Imam
[8:41]he says no more foreign he says the one who at night
[8:59]they spent the whole night or most of the night sleeping and
[9:02]not doing anything they will miss out on an opportunity that they
[9:06]cannot make up during the day what is what is the Hadith
[9:12]talking about what is Imam sadak talking about the Salah in the
[9:16]middle of the night you could work during the day you'll make
[9:19]millions during the day but there is something that if you spend
[9:26]the whole night sleeping you're going to miss out on and you
[9:29]cannot make it up during the day and that is the opportunity
[9:34]to feel spiritually connected with Allah the opportunity to connect with our
[9:40]lord and there are times you could always talk to Allah you
[9:43]could pray to God during the day and you could pray to
[9:48]God at night but we mentioned last night there are some times
[9:52]where the conversation between you and God becomes more intimate there are
[9:57]times where the conversation between us and Allah turns from a normal
[10:03]conversation to a munajat to a language of love that's the time
[10:07]that you spend speaking with Allah and Allah describes the awliya Allah
[10:14]describes the foreign they sleep not to say they don't sleep but
[10:32]they also keep some time to have that conversation that intimate conversation
[10:39]with Allah they're up doing this also describes those who stand for
[10:55]the midnight prayer the midnight prayer is not logic it's recommended but
[11:01]it is a great Act of love between a person and their
[11:09]lord Allah says in the Quran meaning their backs are lifted from
[11:24]their bed if you have something that is occupying your mind you're
[11:29]going to sleep for four hours and then you're gonna get up
[11:32]right away you know sometimes if you have a flight to catch
[11:35]early in the morning you sleep and you wake up you don't
[11:39]even need an alarm clock because your mind is occupied you want
[11:42]to make sure that you make it to that connection you want
[11:46]you want to make sure that you make it on that trip
[11:48]foreign no one knows the reward of those who get up in
[12:16]the middle of the night and pray not even the angels know
[12:20]even the angels they don't know how much a reward this person
[12:26]will receive so now my dear brothers and sisters sleep is something
[12:30]that's natural you can't get away from sleep every single one of
[12:33]us sleeps some of us were sleeping if we live 80 years
[12:38]we're sleeping 20 years of those 80 years some of us were
[12:40]sleeping 30 years and some of us were sleeping the whole time
[12:44]we're not we're not even awake now how can I benefit from
[12:49]my sleep there's a way to benefit from our sleep as well
[12:52]where Allah will reward you while you're sleeping this is a good
[12:58]deal right if you could find a deal find a way where
[13:02]you could receive reward even while you're sleeping that's like getting paid
[13:06]by your job by your employer while you're not there getting paid
[13:10]by your employer while you're resting does that sound like a good
[13:15]deal it does you could get the same with Allah one is
[13:18]during the month of Ramadan Ramadan you don't even need to do
[13:22]anything he says in the month of Ramadan you have an excuse
[13:35]to sleep no one could come and tell you you sleep too
[13:39]much in Ramadan you have an excuse to sleep and it's a
[13:41]form of ibada it's a form of worship during the month of
[13:47]Ramadan why because some people when they're awake they cause more harm
[13:52]and they sin more than when they're sleeping at least when you're
[13:55]sleeping that's it you're not hurting anyone some people when they're awake
[14:02]their mouth is gossiping riba they're hurting this person they're cursing at
[14:06]that person so some people they're better off sleeping than awake and
[14:11]during the month of Ramadan this is the time that Allah gives
[14:16]you the reward even for breathing and faster however when it comes
[14:26]to sleep what are certain things that we could do that could
[14:29]benefit us from when while we're sleeping there are several things one
[14:37]is that before you fall asleep there's something that every single person
[14:42]has to do according to the Hadith of rasulullah and the Hadith
[14:47]and that is before you sleep you put your head on the
[14:55]pillow now put your phone aside put everything aside and this is
[15:01]a time for you to think this is a time for you
[15:05]to go through the whole day from the moment I woke up
[15:07]all the way until the moment I put my head to sleep
[15:12]what did I do today did I sin did I do anything
[15:16]good did I hurt anyone did I talk back to anyone did
[15:18]I steal did I cheat this is called enough's you see businesses
[15:25]corporations they come and they do this at the end of the
[15:27]day they come and they check the log or at the end
[15:30]of the month at the end of the year this is something
[15:34]that we have to do every day every day we have to
[15:39]do that and in a Hadith from Allah he says he says
[15:51]hold yourself accountable before you are held accountable by law and weigh
[15:56]your Deeds before they will be weighed for you and another Hadith
[16:03]he says give yourself you have 24 hours a day you spend
[16:12]some of it at work some of it having fun some of
[16:18]it doing so many things give yourself some time don't let anything
[16:25]come and occupy your mind that time hold yourself accountable what did
[16:33]I do today from the moment I woke up until now what
[16:37]did I do that time come and see what did you do
[16:46]what did you achieve today did you do anything good did you
[16:51]do anything bad if something bad then you need to do it
[16:53]then you need to turn to Allah if you did good then
[16:59]plan to do the good the next day as well so this
[17:05]is one 's contemplation second is another thing to benefit is to
[17:13]do a rule before you sleep this is a very easy Act
[17:18]everyone brushes their teeth inshallah I hope so before they sleep everyone
[17:24]washes their face and you will receive the reward of someone who's
[17:41]praying all night this is how Allah is Kareem Allah is generous
[17:54]the person who does tahur the person who purifies themselves purifies their
[18:03]body you do you do the wadoo and then you go to
[18:05]bed you sleep and your firash your bed will be like a
[18:09]Masjid it will be as if you're sitting and you are worshiping
[18:11]Allah and it's extremely extremely macro to sleep in the state of
[18:21]impurity in the state of janaba for example this is why in
[18:24]a Hadith he says the that if someone does not have water
[18:32]do tayamam if you don't have access to water and look at
[18:36]the beauty of Islam it teaches us to always be clean you
[18:39]have to wash yourself five times a day you have to cleanse
[18:44]yourself you have to always be in the state of tahara this
[18:45]is the beauty of Islam as a religion compare Islam with other
[18:48]religions you only find Islam that teaches us to constantly cleanse ourselves
[18:56]to wash yourself to do to do the so here when we
[19:03]die when we sleep sleep is very similar to death foreign [Applause]
[19:23]who takes the soul and the one that did not die in
[19:29]its sleep because when we sleep it's very similar to death [Applause]
[19:38]meaning that when you die your soul Rises to Allah if a
[19:45]person is supposed to die while they're sleeping then the Soul will
[19:48]remain with God but if a person is supposed to come back
[19:53]to life Allah will send the soul back to the body he
[19:57]says a Muslim does not sleep in the state of janaba and
[20:06]a Muslim does not sleep except in the states of tahara and
[20:12]the state of Purity meaning the soil foreign if a person's death
[20:56]is not supposed to come then Allah will send the soul with
[20:58]the angels back to the body so this is why it's important
[21:05]to be in the state of tahor Islam doesn't just teach us
[21:11]to physically cleanse ourselves but we have to cleanse the soul as
[21:17]well it has a spiritual Dimension to it maybe I don't realize
[21:20]it but there is a spiritual Dimension to although and doing well
[21:24]though is extremely recommended and even if you had will though you
[21:28]could do ULU again it's like you're adding more light to the
[21:39]light so this is something that if someone does before they sleep
[21:44]before you sleep make sure you do someone might say I don't
[21:46]want to pray right now I want to sleep it's okay Allah
[21:50]will reward you in it and it keeps you connected with Allah
[21:56]when you're doing you're you're doing it for the sake of Allah
[22:00]another thing that a person can do to benefit and make their
[22:05]sleep as if it's a form of ibada is that while we're
[22:12]sleeping let us say the shahada before we fall asleep because sleep
[22:21]as we mentioned it's similar to death and some people they sleep
[22:30]and they don't wake up and even if you end up waking
[22:36]up you should remember that the same way we have no control
[22:40]over death I have no control over dying I can't stay alive
[22:44]the same way I cannot stay awake can someone stay awake forever
[22:48]you can't stay awake forever this is exactly the way that we
[22:55]cannot stay alive no one will stay alive forever and the Hadith
[22:59]also says and does everyone stay asleep no you end up waking
[23:06]up after you sleep and the same way we wake up after
[23:11]we sleep what is going to happen we're going to raise rise
[23:14]on the day of judgment you die the same way you sleep
[23:25]and you will rise from your grave the same way you wake
[23:28]up you have no control over when you wake up you end
[23:32]up waking up this is what happens so this is why the
[23:34]minion when they sleep they sleep as if they're not going to
[23:42]wake up so you say your shahada you say you testify your
[23:45]faith and sleep in a in a way there are some people
[23:51]they say I sleep in my grave I sleep in my bed
[23:54]the same way I will be laying in my grave this is
[23:56]why it's mustahab to sleep in certain positions for example on your
[24:00]right side sleep on the right side this is the this is
[24:05]the sleep of the ulama sleeping on his stomach this is right
[24:17]before he struck he saw him sleeping on his stomach he tells
[24:23]him don't sleep like that this is the sleep of the shaytan
[24:32]and then he tells him sleep either on your right or sleep
[24:36]on your left so when you sleep be connected with Allah and
[24:41]recall and remember the fact that we will all go to Allah
[24:47]another thing to do to benefit from the sleep is to have
[24:52]the thicker of Allah before we sleep so it's recommended to recite
[24:56]ital Kursi it's recommended to do the tashahud have the thicker of
[25:02]Allah subhanahu ta'ala it's recommended to do how many how how long
[25:07]does it take for a person to do it one minute a
[25:13]minute and a half in a Hadith from Imam he says if
[25:23]you sleep and before that you do that 34 times 33 times
[25:31]alhamdulillah 33 times subhanallah you will be from those who are the
[25:37]Korean those who remember Allah I've mentioned this Hadith before I'll mention
[25:43]it again for the benefits he walks in the house she narrates
[25:54]she says rasulullah he came and he told me oh my dear
[25:57]daughter Fatima Fatima Allah don't sleep until you do four things she
[26:07]tells him she says he tells her Quran until you read the
[26:16]whole Quran foreign he prayed rasallah used to pray the midnight prayer
[26:48]so she says I waited I want to see how can I
[26:53]do that rasulullah told me do these things how can I do
[26:54]that before I sleep so she says I come to him I
[27:02]tell him you asked me to do certain things that are difficult
[27:07]to do right before you sleep so he tells her when I
[27:12]said Quran read three times three times you recite it you get
[27:22]the tawab the reward of the recitation of the Quran because one
[27:28]Surah is equivalent to one-third of the Quran for you how he
[27:41]tells her before you sleep you say Allah upon rasulullah upon all
[27:51]Prophets of Allah you're sending them is like sending a gift to
[27:57]someone if you're sending a gift to Allah to Ibrahim to the
[28:02]prophets they're going to give you back a gift and that gift
[28:05]is at the shafara third they're going to be pleased with you
[28:13]on the day of judgment you're not going to find any of
[28:15]the meaning that are going to be upset with you how you
[28:19]say Allah foreign the reward and Allah gives you the opportunity to
[28:31]give others reward oh Allah forgive all of the Believers is it
[28:35]difficult for Allah it's not difficult for Allah if for your sake
[28:40]you do Dua for someone else you say oh Allah forgive this
[28:44]person Allah will forgive and the fourth to to do the to
[28:55]do Hajj and umrah he says you say Subhan Allah another way
[29:07]to benefit from the sleep is that that while you're sleeping you
[29:13]do tasveer I'm just kidding you can't do that you have to
[29:18]be sleeping that before you sleep you make the intention to wake
[29:26]up for the midnight prayer and the Fajr prayer you make the
[29:32]intention and Allah will give you the reward based on your Nia
[29:37]Allah Hadith says the believer the reward based on their intention so
[29:50]you say I really want to wake up for the midnight prayer
[29:55]let me sleep and let me wake up for the midnight prayer
[29:59]and in fact there are multiple hadiths narrations from the imams of
[30:04]the alibate it says that if you really want to wake up
[30:07]for the midnight prayer now the midnight prayer it could be done
[30:11]right after midnight so right now after midnight and that's the point
[30:15]the halfway point between between Maghrib and Fajr that is the midnight
[30:18]you could do them you could begin the Salat you could begin
[30:24]at that time but the best time for it is closer to
[30:29]Fajr the last one third of the night that's a lot a
[30:31]lot more difficult than praying turak as and sleeping but if you're
[30:36]able to wake up before the Fajr prayer about half an hour
[30:40]an hour before the Fajr prayer to do that then that is
[30:44]a sign of dedication and here do the Nia do the intention
[30:50]this is this was mentioned at a time where there were no
[30:52]alarm clocks so people they had to prepare themselves to wake up
[30:57]one of the ways that you wake up a lot of people
[31:00]they come and they say say it I miss fed your prayer
[31:03]every day I can't wake up okay what were you doing before
[31:09]how how what time did you sleep I know people they program
[31:12]their Knights and they programmed their Day based on Salata they don't
[31:17]waste their time if there's a Sahara going on they say listen
[31:21]it's time for me to go to sleep because I don't want
[31:22]to miss out on that conversation with God these are only Allah
[31:27]so here the the Hadith of the Imam says that a muttman
[31:34]if they want to wake up for the midnight prayer ask Allah
[31:40]do the intention oh Allah wake me up at this time Allah
[31:43]will send an angel Allah will send angels to wake you up
[31:48]and you will wake up but if you did not wake up
[31:52]these angels they will do a stuck far for you these angels
[31:54]they will keep doing the far for you they will ask Allah
[31:57]to forgive you and also make the intention to wake up for
[32:02]Fajr prayer now Federal prayers to wake up for if you miss
[32:06]the midnight prayer it's not going to be a big deal but
[32:08]you have to wake up for the Fajr prayer and and according
[32:13]to our Hadith one of the ways to wake up for the
[32:21]federal prayer is to recite the last verse of Surah the last
[32:25]verse so my dear brothers and sisters these are some tips on
[32:47]how we could benefit from our sleep and I know the month
[32:51]of Ramadan is here many of you are not sleeping so inshallah
[32:54]the Eid is coming in a few days and you'll always make
[32:59]up for all the missed hours of sleep let us raise our
[33:01]hands foreign [Laughter] foreign
