[2:33]Muhammad sallam my respected brothers and sisters what is Sunni Islam what

[2:43]are the roots of Sunni Islam what is the origin of Sunni

[2:47]Islam what are the divisions within Sunni Islam indeed I find that

[2:56]many of us Shia do not know much about Sunni Islam and

[2:59]likewise many in the Sunni world do not know much about Shia

[3:05]Islam many times we make generalized statements sweeping statements against each other's

[3:12]Heritage and the reality is you'll find that these sweeping statements these

[3:16]stereotypes that we build and sometimes have inherited from our parents means

[3:21]that we do not necessarily give Justice to the beliefs of the

[3:28]Muslim World Muslims are nearly two billion in the world today we

[3:33]know normally whenever a person asks what are the sects of Islam

[3:37]normally you're told it is Sunni and Shia but what are the

[3:40]beliefs within the Sunni school when did they originate was the Sunni

[3:47]school there from the time of the holy prophet peace be upon

[3:49]man his family was it in the time of the cffs was

[3:53]it in the time of the OM Empire and the time of

[3:58]the Abbasid Empire the reality is that when you are ask anyone

[4:02]in the Sunni world when did the Sunni School actually begin and

[4:05]from where did it develop you'll find that there are differing answers

[4:09]there are differing theologies there are differing legal schools there are differing

[4:15]opinions sometimes you might ask somebody what are you and normally when

[4:20]they say that they are Sunni you say so that means you

[4:23]follow the sunah of the Prophet peace be upon his family say

[4:26]yes that's what I follow I follow the teachings of the Quran

[4:29]and the Sunnah of the the holy prophet peace be upon his

[4:31]family on the first level every Muslim claims that so what is

[4:35]it that differentiates you if I come to any Muslim in the

[4:37]world today you will see that they will say that the Quran

[4:41]is what I follow and alongside that I follow the Sunnah of

[4:44]the holy prophet peace be upon his family so in other words

[4:46]any Muslim in reality could be labeled Sunni if you go to

[4:50]any Muslim in the world today those are the two tenants that

[4:52]they hold on to but then if you were to ask them

[4:57]and to press them to develop for you an evolution of the

[5:02]Sunni school you'll find a plethora of ideas emerge you'll find many

[5:07]divisions you'll find a number of different credle texts I've got to

[5:14]give benefit to the Sunni World they have played it very well

[5:17]for 1,400 years because if you look at anybody in the Sunni

[5:20]world stereotyp you see anyone who's praying like this you would never

[5:24]imagine that behind this person comes a whole wave of different sects

[5:32]within the sect of Sunni Islam there are so many subdivisions within

[5:36]the sect of Sunni Islam there are so many theologies someone says

[5:40]no there's only one theology no even within the interpretation of what

[5:50]is the definition of God what is the position of the holy

[5:53]prophet peace be his family in relation to his theological position and

[5:59]the discussions concerning these pillars of the religion you'll see so many

[6:04]different viewpoints so many different opinions that you could have in one

[6:10]mosque in the Sunni World completely differing World Views on Theology and

[6:16]on law if I was to say to you now for example

[6:21]that the main theological schools in the Sunni world are represented by

[6:25]the books that I have in front of me over here I

[6:29]guarantee you on the first level that the majority of the Shia

[6:32]who are watching this will have not read any of these books

[6:38]and yet the Shia Community still finds it normal to make sweeping

[6:43]statements about a sect whose credal texts they've never studied if you

[6:48]look at the books that I have in front of me over

[6:51]here you will find that these books in front of me over

[6:53]here in reality discuss the Creed of what we know today as

[7:01]but within them there are so many differences that have Arisen if

[7:09]you look at the text in front of me over here I'm

[7:10]showing you the main thinkers who represent the of the Sunni World

[7:21]in front of me here on the far left I have if

[7:22]you come to me over here please you will see foundation of

[7:29]the Sunnah Imam Ahmed Binh a key figure in Theology and in

[7:33]law then I have over here one of the most important theological

[7:41]schools in the Sunni world and that is the midi School of

[7:45]Abu mans Al M majority of people who will say that they

[7:50]know Sunni Islam will have never heard of Abu mans Al M

[7:53]both in the Shia and in the Sunni ask anyone in the

[7:59]Shia to tell you about the roots of the Sunni school and

[8:01]how important Abu mansur m one of the most famous Scholars of

[8:11]Sunni theology as well as La a man from an area near

[8:14]Samar who was a scholar in and in following the Hani school

[8:22]so now what do I have I have a person who is

[8:30]I thought they called Sunni no no Sunni Islam is not monolithic

[8:37]the number of subdivisions in Sunni Islam has been covered so well

[9:36]lived when he lived within a couple of hundred years of the

[9:42]over here another of the main Sunni theological schools look at this

[9:48]book the differences between the ashis and the midis what's going on

[9:54]over who's ashari who's ashari the differences between the and the midis

[12:13]why do we need to have different schools of theology we already

[12:41]what's going on here they say that they're Sunni that's it one

[13:07]that Sunni Islam was there from day one if Sunni is Islam

[13:25]the Sunni world you know like the Shia World majority majority of

[13:31]them have never read their credal texts Shia and Sunni by the

[13:34]way the Shia I have my own misgivings about the Shia who

[13:37]have not read their credle text and someone might turn around to

[13:40]me and say well in your school you have Z you have

[13:44]and you have for me when I am I don't necessarily believe

[13:50]in the salvation of the zi and the is I believe that

[14:00]when you call me that my path is the only correct path

[14:05]is this the same in the sun world the sun World rarely

[14:10]answers that there are salais who do not accept the mity they

[14:46]Sunni and Shia the Sunni world has very cleverly always bullied the

[14:50]Shia by saying to the Shia what's your origin when did your

[14:58]theology crystallize I want to ask them a question question maybe for

[15:01]the first time that a question has ever been asked and that

[15:04]is I want to ask you how did your theology crystallize because

[15:10]I'm confused over here I'm looking over here I'm seeing Mai I

[15:20]salafi I look over here I see I am now super confused

[15:27]because I thought Islam was a very simple religion but even within

[15:30]the majority of Muslims in the world today that is the Sunni

[15:32]world no doubt that there's at least 75% of the Sunni World

[15:37]they call themselves Sunni I want to ask them one question what

[15:40]is who is this abass who's AB for him to be the

[15:49]person who you follow who is for example who is the who

[16:03]it is that there are in the Sunni world who negate sunnis

[18:08]followed the opinions of abdah abdah and then some Scholars say that

[18:20]he repented and rejected all of his previous Innovations and bad Creeds

[18:25]as he had written in his book Al I and he announced

[18:34]that he's going back to the of and specifically the of immed

[18:41]others say that he repented true but he could not get rid

[18:50]of every small thing that was clinging to him and attached to

[18:54]him so he still had some remains of kab in him now

[19:04]having said that the Contemporary they are in predestiny they have their

[19:19]belief of Ja and in IM they have the of and in

[19:28]the Allah's attributes they have and they clearly say that we do

[19:38]not approve of any of Allah's beautiful attributes except seven so they

[19:47]deny that Allah is upon his throne they deny that Allah is

[19:51]above his creation and they say things that are baseless when they

[19:56]say that Allah is not above he's not uh uh in this

[20:02]world he's not out of this world and many other things which

[20:06]clearly state that they are not from per se now having said

[20:15]that we have to make it clear that not everyone who says

[20:21]something of what the ashar say is considered to be a full

[20:28]full-fledged ashar because sometimes you may find a scholar like IB ha

[20:36]or a nawi who may say something that was said by the

[20:43]ashar but they don't adopt all of their opinions not even the

[20:47]majority of their opinions but this was a single error or a

[20:51]mistake we do not take such great Scholars out of and this

[21:02]is what clarified in his book when he said that just because

[21:09]ha or an nawi said something that might coincide with what thehar

[21:16]say this doesn't make them ashis similarly if we were hamis and

[21:25]we adopted one of the views of IM shafii would that make

[21:29]us shaf definitely not so I hope this answers your question I'm

[21:35]super confused honestly I'm so baffled I don't even know what's going

[21:39]on I thought that sunnd Islam was something super simple you know

[21:44]what I mean it's I'm not understanding what's happening all I heard

[21:47]in all that is M read and you're in a lot of

[21:51]trouble okay you're not part of because and I think the salafi

[21:56]school does not think you're part of um because you also don't

[22:01]believe that Allah subhana wa taala has a body and I'm going

[22:03]to come to Allah having a body because I think what showed

[22:08]very clearly is that the early group of Muslims the early group

[22:12]of Muslims were differing over so many theological issues for us Shia

[22:16]it's quite blatant what we believe in we just love IM Ali

[22:17]too much and it was so blatant yeah that's the definition of

[22:23]Shia either some Shia went Ali is God some Shia were like

[22:25]Ali is the greatest person after the prophet peace be upon his

[22:29]family and and that is shm in all honesty it's one way

[22:32]or the other between some some are top that's sh you can't

[22:40]what's going on early with the rest I ain't got a clue

[22:42]because early debates he pointed to something very interesting early debates were

[22:49]not no way early debates were what today we would call Sunni

[22:56]V Sunni does Allah have a body or no predestination versus Free

[23:01]Will was one of the major debates that was happening between members

[23:05]of the so-called what was happening with them what was going on

[23:19]with them what was going on with them was that you had

[23:21]people who were debating do we have complete predestination or complete Free

[23:24]Will are we in all our action predestined Allah has predestined everything

[23:32]or do we have free will or are we somewhere in the

[23:35]middle those were theological discussions that were happening he even mentioned is

[23:39]there a suspension of judgment on the companions of people were debating

[23:44]these things so in other words when a person says they're Sunni

[23:48]this whole idea that you know Sunni Islam is the one that

[23:53]was the pure Islam after rasol Allah died everybody followed Sunni Islam

[23:57]because rasol Allah said make sure you follow Sunni Islam Sunni Islam

[24:01]the man just showed us has got so many subdivisions I honestly

[24:04]got confused with all the names one minute I heard and then

[24:11]I heard next to him what is Islam will the real Sunni

[24:15]Islam please stand up many of the Shia they fell into this

[24:20]trap that Islam is very simple it is just Shia and Sunni

[24:27]no it's not shm is simple Z or all of them believe

[24:28]in the's Authority there are differences about who the authority goes to

[24:33]Sunni Islam and Shia Islam yes a person could say but they

[24:38]believe everybody believes in Allah our conception of Allah as we'll see

[24:41]in the coming nights and the Sunni conception of Allah and then

[24:44]I want to say the Sunni conception of Allah but even Sunni

[24:45]what conception of Allah the conception of Allah the E conception of

[24:52]Allah the literalist because with the E we have literalism with others

[24:56]like the midis we went towards rational thought and by the way

[24:59]why are all these people authorities for the Muslims for their names

[25:04]to have schools named after them did ever say one day I

[25:22]a random Iraqi and a random Persian and a random all of

[25:26]them Egyptian and so on why do they have schools suddenly named

[25:33]as a or a person to be known as a pulls himself

[25:38]out of the and he has a dream that guides him on

[25:41]the right path and the whole school called the theological school when

[25:47]you meet any Sunni in the world I want you to ask

[25:51]them one question what school of law do you follow and they

[25:54]might say to I'm hanfi say what school of thought do you

[25:59]follow I guarantee until your majority haven't got a clue about the

[26:02]main schools of thought that they follow the majority have never even

[26:06]heard of this Mai or yes the elite the scholars those who

[26:14]are well read but this man in one clip said my are

[26:18]not part of so where does that put someone who says wait

[26:22]I'm Sunni but I'm a ma Sunni but the Sala Sunni is

[26:27]saying that the ma Sunni is not part of sorry I thought

[26:31]this was the purest mhab to follow in Islam actually it's the

[26:36]most baffling one they haven't made up their minds about whether God

[26:41]has a body or not they haven't made up their minds about

[26:44]the prophets infallibility or not and when it comes to other areas

[26:49]such as predestination and Free Will the position of the Muslim sinner

[26:58]obedience to the ruler of the time and other areas of theology

[27:00]it's bewildering how many differences there are but someone might ask a

[27:06]question but they call themselves where does that come from when they

[27:11]say they are I might today actually give a Sunni his own

[27:15]theological lesson about his school because when a person says that they

[27:22]are known as following well where do they get this concept of

[27:29]from from where firstly the idea of Sunnah is mentioned where come

[27:37]with me over here let's open up some books today the idea

[27:41]that you follow the Sunnah which I as a sh believe in

[27:45]I've got no problem of course I have to follow the come

[28:30]and sisters on the authority of the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaih

[28:37]addressed us with a sermon so much impressive that because of which

[28:43]the eyes shed tears and the hearts became in all we said

[28:46]oh messenger of Allah verily this sermon is of such as is

[28:52]going to leave us what do you command us to do on

[28:54]that he said no doubt I've left you on a state of

[28:57]faith that is clear and pure as white ground whose night is

[29:02]as shining as the day and no one deviates from it after

[29:04]me but that he will be ruined no doubt you will see

[29:09]after my death a great dispute amongst my people clearly he trusted

[29:12]his companions a lot you will see a great dispute amongst the

[29:14]people which leads to their division and swerving from the right path

[29:19]so I advise you to follow my Sunnah and the Sunnah of

[29:27]the rightly guided well directed successes of me to which you should

[29:32]stick firmly and on which you should show constant patience so here

[29:38]in Arabic what does it what does it [Music] say follow my

[29:52]and the Sunnah of the cffs which cifs the M the rightly

[30:00]guided cffs after me in this Hadith he says to follow his

[30:03]Sunnah I believe in that that you must follow theah of and

[30:08]I also believe you must follow the Sunnah of the rightly guided

[30:14]after him which to me are who Muhammad here doesn't necessarily mention

[30:21]the names of who is after him but he says you follow

[30:26]me and you follow who the rightly guided successes after me therefore

[30:30]when someone is called the first part the first part of the

[30:37]name is from the idea of following the Sunnah so where's Jama

[30:42]from Jama means the community the majority the group come with me

[30:49]over here my dear brothers sisters to the sun of Abu da

[30:51]when we go to the sun of Abu daud all of you

[30:56]can see over here the English translation of Abu da compiled by

[31:03]IM Abu da volume Five from Hadith number 4351 to 5274 AI

[32:19]if you come to Hadith number what Hadith 4596 the book of

[32:24]the Sunnah it was narrated that Abu Hur said the messenger of

[32:28]sahu Al said the Jews split into 71 or 72 sects and

[32:35]the Christians split into 71 or 72 sects and my umah will

[32:38]split into 73 sects he made it clear the um will split

[32:46]into 73 sects let's go to the next Hadith below Hadith 459

[32:52]interesting in the comments over here it says the book is named

[32:54]The Book of the Sunnah to indicate the Creed of the people

[32:58]of the Sunnah ornah okay that's why it's called that this is

[33:02]Abu writing a few hundred years after has died this Creed is

[33:09]called Sunnah because are unique amongst the groups I've seen how many

[33:14]million subdivisions emerge from them they are definitely unique is and that

[33:18]they take their beliefs from the Sunnah the belief from the Sunnah

[33:21]that what Allah has a body Allah has a body or no

[33:26]body our actions are predestined or free will we can use rationality

[33:30]in theology or no what is the dispute over obedience to the

[33:34]uh ruler prophets parents in Hell or no Prophet commits sins or

[33:38]no are prophets infallible or no says one thing says another says

[33:42]another say but everyone's going Jenna everyone this is all one pure

[33:49]sect yeah you see how in the literature they even make it

[33:51]seem like because they know you're not going to read further so

[33:56]say look this is but look in theith what does theith say

[33:59]Hadith over here says that muan stood up this is where one

[34:07]may argue the idea of in the title emerges with who listen

[34:13]to this mu stood up and he said because you know mua

[34:14]is as truthful as they come mashallah there is none with a

[34:28]stood up amongst us and said those who came before you of

[34:32]the people of the book split into 72 sects and this umah

[34:39]will split into 73 sects 72 of which will be in the

[34:43]fire I don't care if you sayam you could still end up

[34:47]in the fire sorry to be Bleak Shah Ramadan it's night one

[34:49]night two in some of your places I don't mean to be

[34:52]Bleak but the prophet said it he said listen you're going to

[34:53]split there's only one going to uh heaven so make sure you

[34:57]get your priorities right and don't just inherit from your parents split

[35:01]into 72 sects and this umah will split into 73 sects 72

[35:05]of which will be in the fire and one in Paradise that

[35:12]is the J the main group of the Muslims today you will

[35:18]have a Sunni saying because Sunni Islam is the majority that means

[35:22]said hold on to the majority says I don't give away the

[35:25]majority if you're or you're not part of now I'm getting a

[35:30]bit baffled here because you got one side who are saying majority

[35:32]saying hold on to theama hence the title well but then you've

[35:46]got with so would would he enter ahead of a with a

[35:58]did are you guys going with me over here believe you me

[36:02]Shia Islam is so much easier Muhammad Al Muhammad chill relax I'm

[36:05]not going to deny there isn't the odd theological difference that is

[36:10]there within the Creed of a scholar but everybody know Shia marked

[36:15]by their obsessive love for Al Muhammad Islam I'm super confused here

[36:21]majority you've got to follow but the majority are split they're split

[36:25]into schools of Law and schools of thought the schools of thought
