[1:24]hey [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] one of the images most closely
[3:55]associated when examining mary the mother of jesus is the hijab that
[4:03]she wears or the veil that she wears mary's veil can be
[4:06]seen in churches across the world can be seen in depictions in
[4:11]the world of art throughout history we know that the veil can
[4:16]be translated in the arabic language with a term like hijab most
[4:22]commonly today or some will say sitter or some will say or
[4:28]some will talk about the niqab or some will talk about the
[4:33]burqa the reality is that the discussion concerning the head covering whether
[4:39]it's related to maryam or the nuns in the world of christianity
[4:43]or it's related to any of the figures of the history of
[4:48]the religion of islam is a discussion that requires a thorough dissection
[4:52]because it's a discussion that continues to affect our lives until today
[5:00]one of the symbols of oppression according to certain non-muslims against women
[5:06]in islam is the veil you'll always find that there'll be a
[5:09]group who'll say that we'll never become muslims because of the veil
[5:13]we will never become muslims because we have to cover our here
[5:16]no doubt islam recognizes that the hair is the center of beauty
[5:23]and more than ever in the female and is a gift from
[5:26]god is a blessing from god one only has to see what
[5:30]certain people have to go through when for example they have to
[5:35]go through certain therapies in their life to remove a certain virus
[5:38]or disease and you see their hair no longer being there without
[5:41]a doubt it is something not easy for the human being to
[5:46]either lose their hair or to have their hair for example covered
[5:51]but you find in certain countries there is an opinion that this
[5:57]veil whether it's mary's veil whether it's an islamic veil is a
[6:02]veil which is something not to be accepted one only has to
[6:06]look for example recently in south india to see in karnataka that
[6:12]there was a major debate that had taken place about whether one
[6:17]could wear their hijab for example when they go to school there
[6:20]were certain college students who were banned for example from the month
[6:26]of january because they used to be girls who were hijab when
[6:30]they go to that college in south india and it really was
[6:35]a shame the uproar that was caused and the controversy was clear
[6:39]for all to see and it was a shame because india prides
[6:44]itself originally on being a country where people of different faiths were
[6:47]able to live with each other and peace in india you have
[6:53]hindus and you have muslims then you have christians you have sikhs
[6:57]you don't get many countries like india where you could go one
[7:03]way and see a gurdwara temple mosque church all in one country
[7:06]but now it's reached a stage where those in the hindu community
[7:11]in terms of the extremists and we shouldn't generalize and say the
[7:14]whole hindu community because there are some who themselves were against such
[7:20]a move but you'll find that some in the hindu community said
[7:23]well if they wear a veil then we can wear our saffron
[7:27]for example colored scarves as well if that is their symbol then
[7:30]this is our symbol and there were riots and there were fights
[7:34]and there were many people who were in a state of shock
[7:37]that indian society had reached this level so you find for example
[7:44]in india a debate over that veil a small piece of cloth
[7:47]that you may see on the head of maryam becomes the center
[7:52]of debate in 2022 but it's not just india you may find
[7:57]a majority muslim country like tunisia for example like kuwait where there
[8:00]have been discussions about wearing the headscarf where you can wear it
[8:04]at work at school let alone in european countries like france or
[8:09]holland so therefore when we come to dissecting mary's veil it's not
[8:14]just a discussion has to say that maryam war hijab or not
[8:16]it's a discussion that affects us until today what was the nature
[8:21]of the veil the importance of the veil the benefits of the
[8:24]veil the advantages of the veil because in the indian courts it
[8:30]was being said that this is not part of islam this hijab
[8:33]may be something cultural and therefore not needed and that's why even
[8:37]some non-muslims i don't blame them when they're confused is the hijab
[8:42]for example or not if i go to some mosques i will
[8:46]see the ladies are covered completely i might go for example to
[8:53]some pakistani or indian centers i might see them wearing it only
[8:56]when they come to the imam barga there are some in india
[9:00]and pakistan who will not wear hijab except where except in the
[9:07]imam barga and the hussainiya outside of those areas there are many
[9:11]who do not wear we have to ask ourselves questions that what
[9:15]does the non-muslim think when he sees some of us wearing the
[9:20]veil of mariam and some of us not wearing the veil of
[9:23]maryam didn't marry him herself only wear hijab in the church or
[9:27]let's say not the church in her time but let's say in
[9:30]the presence of god or was she actually observing it in the
[9:36]idea that it's something obligatory from god at all times because we
[9:41]see today some muslims they'll say if i go maja listen i
[9:44]have to wear hijab when i enter the mosque but when i
[9:48]leave the mosque the hijab comes off there are some christians who
[9:51]may follow this route as well therefore what is the origin the
[9:56]base of all of this let's tonight dissect mariam's veil in order
[10:01]that we're able to understand the significance of the veil in christianity
[10:05]and in islam and i'd like to do this in the following
[10:12]stages number one ultimately does allah care about our hearts or the
[10:16]way we dress and ultimately what is the debate that exists from
[10:19]the time of the likes of paul and james when it comes
[10:24]to faith versus laws and actions number two in the bible does
[10:31]god mention head covering and what does god say about the covering
[10:35]of the head of the male and the covering of the head
[10:38]of the female number three in christian opinion did maryam alaihissalam wear
[10:45]a veil what are the proofs that even the veil that she
[10:50]wore when she gave birth to jesus may still be with us
[10:54]in a museum in the south of paris until today number four
[10:57]how about those who turn around and say no the veil is
[11:00]only for funerals you go to a funeral you wear a veil
[11:05]you go to the church you wear a veil but outside of
[11:07]that there is no need anymore further than that what then do
[11:14]nuns represent and why do the nuns continue to wear it if
[11:16]this is just the cultural practice is the hijab part of islam
[11:21]if it is then why is there no verse in the quran
[11:25]that says let woman wear a hijab and how do we answer
[11:28]those who always bring up these verses of the quran in relation
[11:34]to this and finally how is it that the ladies of al-muhammad
[11:36]became a symbol for us when it came to the veil and
[11:43]they continued that message of maryam let's dissect this and examine the
[11:48]topic in depth first question it does allah care about whether i
[11:52]wear a hijab or no as in the reality is god cares
[11:55]about my heart at the end of the day god is concerned
[11:58]whether i have a pure heart or not what's the point of
[12:03]me looking like mother teresa for example or me looking like the
[12:09]holiest lady in the religion of islam but my heart is a
[12:11]heart full of malice a heart full of hate a heart full
[12:16]of envy those who raise this question have a very good point
[12:19]or who raise this objection because we know that i could go
[12:23]to a place of worship today and i could see that there
[12:28]are people there who are wearing for example a veil but these
[12:31]same people throughout the medalists are doing reba on everybody in the
[12:34]mosque these same people throughout the medalists are doing tormah and namima
[12:38]and bhutan against people in the mosque someone says but yes when
[12:43]i do hiba i'm saying something true about them so what's the
[12:45]issue reeber is not defined as you saying something true about them
[12:50]riba is defined as you saying something true about someone behind their
[12:57]back which you know they wouldn't like you to say now if
[13:00]i go into the mosque and there are many females who by
[13:03]the way will always raise this and some of them took off
[13:06]their veils because of this issue they said that why should we
[13:10]wear a veil when the girls who wear veils are all hypocrites
[13:11]are all judgmental and so on so on one hand you had
[13:16]that group from another hand in christianity you had a group who
[13:21]said that listen you shouldn't be all too concerned about laws veil
[13:26]is why jib veil is obligatory veil is what's the highest veil
[13:30]is macro you should be concerned about your faith in god about
[13:34]receiving god's grace jesus came and saved us so through holding on
[13:40]to jesus that is more than enough and that's why you find
[13:42]a debate between the likes of paul and the likes of james
[13:47]on the one hand you have those who tell you to hold
[13:51]on to the savior who died for your sins who bought you
[13:56]salvation and that means in some cases not all in some cases
[13:58]someone could easily fall in the trap of saying that as long
[14:02]as i for example have the cross on my chest in a
[14:04]necklace and every once in a while i may remember christ that's
[14:08]enough for me whether i eat pork i drink alcohol i am
[14:13]for example engaged in relation with people i shouldn't be because some
[14:16]won't some will forget the commandments they think that jesus dying for
[14:22]our sins means all the jewish laws and customs completely are removed
[14:27]completely are deleted there are others however they admit that no a
[14:32]person their faith and actions must come together for us as muslims
[14:36]we make it clear and the quran makes it clear those who
[14:44]believe is one thing all of us sitting in this hall or
[14:48]all of us watching around the world we all believe you ask
[14:50]a christian do you believe say yes do you mind taking a
[14:55]bribe to destroy another politician in your government no no issue as
[14:58]long as it destroys someone else do you mind making up stories
[15:03]against a f a person from another religion no problem as long
[15:06]as we can destroy that religion and the hell and the people
[15:08]at the helm of that religion you're a christian you say that
[15:13]i'm a christian who loves jesus and my priest is very important
[15:16]to me how then are you willing to make up stories to
[15:21]defame another religious or another political figure because if you look at
[15:24]some muslim countries and one prime example where i see it is
[15:31]lebanon lebanon you'll find that the people of christianity and the people
[15:34]of islam both of them we love god we love jesus we
[15:38]love muhammad we love all the prophets of allah we love all
[15:43]of them but it doesn't matter if we have to fight each
[15:45]other under the table deceive each other hurt each other in the
[15:50]eyes of some the means justifies the ends in the eyes of
[15:53]others jesus has saved me and i'll hold on to christ and
[15:58]these people follow the antichrist you therefore find that when it came
[16:03]to the hijab what was the central issue some people said why
[16:05]should i cover my hair for what reason the main thing is
[16:07]that i have a pure heart if i now go into an
[16:11]exam tomorrow my a levels exam or my uni exams and i
[16:14]enter the exam hall and my teacher says are you ready for
[16:19]the exam i'm like yes i am i have a great brain
[16:21]he'll look at me and he'll say to me well done you
[16:23]have a sharp brain yes i do i do he says so
[16:27]show the sharpness in answering the questions on the exam paper no
[16:29]no but i have a sharp brain he'll say to me what's
[16:32]the point of having a sharp brain if the implementation of that
[16:37]sharpness is not there i can have a pure heart there's no
[16:40]doubt it's good but the show and the gratefulness of that pure
[16:45]heart is by observing either the commands of my lord or by
[16:48]following the examples of those holy figures who came before me true
[16:52]otherwise then what's the point of me saying you know what i
[16:55]have a pure heart someone says why don't you pray the prayer
[16:57]that the prophet prayed no no no but my heart is good
[17:00]suddenly why should i pray say no no but the implementation of
[17:06]it is not just faith those who believe and do the good
[17:13]deeds what's the point of someone coming on the 19th of shah
[17:16]ramadan you'll find some who will come and cry for am i
[17:18]salam they themselves don't pray while the man was himself killed in
[17:24]sujood then you have a group will say i will not pray
[17:26]because he died in so his son imam and jose did not
[17:29]know that on that he was praying so therefore what you find
[17:32]you find on the first level when we come to the question
[17:35]of the veil those who look at mary's statue and they see
[17:39]mary wearing a veil you'll see that some of them say okay
[17:44]maybe she did but i don't need to because for me i
[17:49]have faith in her son i have faith in god's grace and
[17:51]that's more than enough then you find however the question arises this
[17:55]veil that mary wears in the bible is there an order for
[18:01]people to wear the veil because academic scholars have said that the
[18:05]jewish community for example their married woman would wear a hijab or
[18:09]would wear a veil they're married of them otherwise you would find
[18:14]that the rest of them may not necessarily have worn except for
[18:19]religious occasions so the question then came that in the bible did
[18:22]it say yes where does it say if you go to paul's
[18:27]letter to corinthians 1 11 okay you go to that letter to
[18:34]corinthians 1 11 he preaches to them and amongst his preachings he
[18:39]talks about the head covering okay if you go to that section
[18:43]111 and you keep reading onwards you'll see that what does he
[18:50]say the head of every man is what is christ and the
[18:55]head of every woman is man if this was in the quran
[19:00]there will be people saying look at the quran it's a chauvinistic
[19:02]patriarchal worst book on earth it should be burned it should be
[19:04]removed look what it says the head of every man is christ
[19:08]the head of every woman is man how many will come and
[19:12]say the bible look at what it says no if the quran
[19:14]says the whole world is an uproar but when paul in his
[19:20]letter to corinthians says the head of every man is christ and
[19:24]the head of every woman is man and the head of christ
[19:30]is who god he says this then he says that the one
[19:34]the man who when they pray this very important point when they
[19:40]pray or prophesies they cover their head then they've dishonored their head
[19:46]if you cover your head while praying as a man then you
[19:51]have dishonored your head so for them covering the head while in
[19:57]state of prayer was seen as not being the best of things
[20:00]that's why you find on the country for us you'll find some
[20:04]of us will wear a kofia or a chaffia for example some
[20:07]are recommended to wear a turban when they pray not only mawlana's
[20:12]yes a person if they have a turban it is a recommendation
[20:14]for someone when it comes to salah to cover for example paul
[20:18]says no that you've dishonored yourself by covering your head if you're
[20:24]a man but a woman has to cover her head and if
[20:27]she doesn't it's like she might as well have shaved her head
[20:32]so here would you we find we find paul is giving a
[20:36]clear order what is that order the woman covers the man doesn't
[20:41]some christians said yes the woman covers no problem in prayer only
[20:48]not outside of salah in prayer only the woman has to cover
[20:55]and that is something which is valid on a number of fronts
[20:59]by the way for us in shiite literature most of our hadiths
[21:04]on hijab on the veil most of them are related to covering
[21:09]and salah let's be frank i cannot say that the majority of
[21:15]them are about covering outside of salah doesn't mean covering outside of
[21:19]salah is not there i'll come to that shortly but if you're
[21:21]looking in the books of fir the discussions concerning covering tend to
[21:26]be related to salah so the christian community some of them what
[21:29]did they say they said that we will cover yes that will
[21:34]be there when we go towards where towards for example the church
[21:39]you say but mariam used to wear a veil they say where
[21:44]did you get that from first we say in the world of
[21:48]art you'll see mariam salam covered with a veil but there's a
[21:52]reply to that what is the reply in christian art there's also
[21:55]maryam without a veil in christian art there's even maryam with her
[22:02]breasts showing in christian art you will still find certain artists who
[22:06]depicted mariam breastfeeding in the piece of art breastfeeding jesus with her
[22:16]breath showing and not just her breasts and some pieces of art
[22:20]it went even further than this now for us as muslims of
[22:24]course this is something blasphemous until today by the way if you
[22:28]go to the vatican you'll see that there are depictions of what
[22:33]looks like children some will say angelic figures with all their body
[22:39]parts showing hardy even the areas which you'd expect to be areas
[22:43]of privacy even that is showing in the paintings you can see
[22:48]it in the paintings it is normal to even see a lady
[22:54]with probably half naked inside when you go and visit same for
[22:58]example the basilica and so on you can see inside that there
[23:01]is a statue of a lady who is hardly wearing anything for
[23:07]us never ever will you come to our mosques where there is
[23:10]a baby painting naked or a lady where her of her body
[23:14]and backside is showing or in part of our art and some
[23:19]tried to make the excuse subhanallah some made the excuse that this
[23:22]is just art or if it's art what's the art got to
[23:26]do in the in the in the holiest place say that there
[23:29]is art out there art that shows mary alaya salam who you
[23:34]want to later say mother of god mother of jesus holy lady
[23:37]the virgin mary our mother how could you be showing in some
[23:43]paintings all of this nudity yes but some said that mary alaihissalam
[23:46]would cover herself when it came to where when it came to
[23:52]salat that when it came to prayers maryam would cover of course
[23:55]for us is huge in the quran i read the i at
[24:03]the beginning of the lecture will be of those who do what
[24:15]be obedient to our lord through her supplication through her prostration through
[24:21]her bowing you have their kunut and you have their sujud and
[24:26]you have their roku all associated to her and that's why we
[24:31]have a wonderful hadith about maryam in her salah that maryam was
[24:35]the height of modesty in her salah not just that asks his
[24:40]mom after she's died he speaks to his mom while his mom
[24:46]has gone to the world he asked his mom would you like
[24:52]to return to this dunya she said yes for which reasons number
[24:54]one to pray the night prayer in the coldness of the night
[24:59]and number two to fast in the heat of the day i
[25:03]ask all of you how many of us would want to get
[25:06]up and stay in this world to praise salati laid when it's
[25:10]freezing who gets up some people can't get up for fajr when
[25:12]it's freezing and you find here that you've got a situation where
[25:19]jesus when he speaks to his mother mariam jesus makes it clear
[25:22]he says that i mariam says to him that i would love
[25:29]to return return where to this junia for two reasons mary wants
[25:33]to return to this dunya the first reason is because of salah
[25:36]i want to pray it in the cold night she doesn't just
[25:43]say that i want to pray oh i want to come back
[25:45]to this dunya to pray salatilla no i want to pray the
[25:48]night prayer and the cold and mariam then says i'd like to
[25:55]return to this world too fast in the heat alhamdulillah at the
[25:58]moment our fasting for example in london is not in hot temperatures
[26:02]it's pretty mild it's going well mariam one the quran was saying
[26:16]that this lady was a lady who was devout christians what did
[26:22]they say hijab of mariam vale yes or they would say jewish
[26:29]custom which just continued with her the jews used to have a
[26:35]covering on their heads so if mariam in every church in the
[26:41]world whether it be in rome whether the church be in lebanon
[26:43]whether the church be in the uk wherever the church would be
[26:46]they'd say yes this was only a cultural practice if she was
[26:52]married she'd have to cover herself for us we ask a central
[26:54]question if it's just because she's married or just because she's going
[27:01]to pray she covers her head okay then there's a central question
[27:07]why then do the nuns cover throughout the nuns can walk in
[27:11]the street they're not praying so why is it that they're covering
[27:16]their heads if mariam's covering was only for salah and maryam's covering
[27:21]was only if you got married as a jewish lady then why
[27:25]is it that nuns cover i've seen nuns in the streets of
[27:28]london walking in the street they're not necessarily in a state of
[27:32]salah or in state of prayer let's say nor are they married
[27:35]so why is it that they're covering fully the answer that some
[27:41]christians give is these nuns because they've devoted their whole life to
[27:45]god that's why they cover the whole time islam agrees with that
[27:48]islam says the one who is the lady who covers her life
[27:55]to allah from the age of adolescence now people ask the question
[27:59]that why jim to wear the veil obligatory in islam from which
[28:05]age differ some of the ulama are very standard where they take
[28:10]the hadith which say the age of nine automatically they say from
[28:13]there it becomes obligatory obligatory to do what to begin that relationship
[28:20]of responsibility and discipline like the nun does with her creator what
[28:26]is that called it's called tech leaf that's why when a girl
[28:30]reaches the age of nine in the muslim community they normally hold
[28:35]for her tech leaf party that's a cleave party is a party
[28:40]that recognizes that now she begins her devotion to the path of
[28:44]god someone says but saying that you could not compare that young
[28:47]girl for example to the nun no the reality for me is
[28:54]none or no none ultimately our life devotion to god is in
[28:58]every sphere of our life a person does not have to for
[29:05]example be a priest or a nun for them to devote themselves
[29:07]wholeheartedly to god because you'll find some who'll say that listen the
[29:12]nuns they've devoted wholeheartedly me if i'm going to be wearing a
[29:17]bikini on the beach or i'm going to be clubbing i'm going
[29:20]to be drinking i still love christ i still love christ but
[29:26]i'll never achieve the same devotion that those nuns did why not
[29:29]why can you not in your life achieve devotion to christ by
[29:35]staying away from those areas that may take you away from christ
[29:42]you can also be equally as devoted this idea that you know
[29:46]what i will wear this covering and act modest only in the
[29:49]church begun to affect our mosques as well how in our mosques
[29:54]as well we reached a level well and this level by the
[29:59]way i don't want to put it down completely because all of
[30:02]us have a struggle when it comes to holding on to our
[30:07]faith and the strength of our actions but just as a reminder
[30:09]in this holy month of ramadan that it's not just the christian
[30:12]community who try and wear the veil of mariam when they go
[30:18]to the church the muslims try and wear the hijab of fatima
[30:22]when they only go to the mosque is that true or no
[30:25]how many muslims will try and wear the hijab of say that
[30:31]only when they go to the mosque this could have a positive
[30:34]spin let me please understand what i'm saying some people don't necessarily
[30:39]grow up in the same religious families that we all grow up
[30:43]sometimes the way we judge people we think that everybody grew up
[30:49]in the same beer that we grew up there are some the
[30:52]households they grew up in the only time the father and mother
[30:58]may even go to the mosque if you're lucky if you're lucky
[31:01]only there are someone say no no you mean the ten nights
[31:06]not even ten nights ashura day some their families even the whole
[31:13]year they will not go to the mosque except ashora day and
[31:16]the 19th and the 21st of shahad ramadhan on the 23rd when
[31:20]i look at somebody who now is coming to the mosque and
[31:25]wears hijab only when they come through the walls or the doors
[31:28]of my mosque do i look down at them and say look
[31:31]they only wear when they come to the mosque no on the
[31:34]one hand i look and i say now this is baby steps
[31:36]true although islam is a religion of submission it's baby steps a
[31:43]person can take baby steps to come towards slowly the path of
[31:49]complete submission listen all of us all of you listening at home
[31:51]wherever you may be all of us have the odd area of
[31:55]law where a bit lacks on you who are judging the one
[31:58]who doesn't wear hijab maybe you who never wakes up for salati
[32:00]fajr sure there are some people never wake up for fajr but
[32:04]if they see a girl not wearing look she's not wearing hijab
[32:07]until you're missing one thing she's missing one thing the idea is
[32:11]work together with one another you believers are brothers of one another
[32:17]that's one side the other side is who the other side are
[32:24]those who have been wearing hijab only when they come to the
[32:28]mosque for 29 years okay wait let's differentiate between the two there
[32:32]are those who are wearing hijab when they come to almost because
[32:36]the last couple of years they've started coming to the mosque slowly
[32:38]start to become more religious and so on there are those who
[32:43]have now compartmentalized religion and hijab and the veil in the same
[32:48]way christianity compartmentalized it that mary if paul wrote in his letter
[32:52]corinthians that you cover your head when you pray so we'll cover
[32:58]our head when we pray we'll cover our head when we come
[33:01]to the mosque for example in muharram some of our people done
[33:05]the same ziara they will come they'll cover their head in ziyara
[33:09]till hussain the moment they're in transit on the airport back everything
[33:13]comes back off they used to be known as the iranian syndrome
[33:17]actually iranians were known that when they would board a flight on
[33:22]the way to iran no one would wear until they get to
[33:27]iran everyone wins when the flight would leave taharan to go to
[33:34]wherever as soon as he lifts off everything off that was a
[33:38]syndrome that had existed in the iranian certain parts of the iranian
[33:42]community but you find still in our mosques until today what brings
[33:46]about confusion even in india in some cases people are confused you
[33:52]people are you wearing hijab as a culture or hijab as a
[33:54]religion christianity also has that difference is the hijab just the custom
[34:01]is the veil of mary a custom did mary wear it all
[34:02]the time didn't mary wear it only because in christian believed she
[34:07]got married did mary only wear it when she prayed today the
[34:11]muslim community seemingly is in the same confusion some members of the
[34:15]muslim community you will see who will wear it all the time
[34:17]some members of the muslim community will wear it only when they
[34:21]go ziyarah some muslims members of the muslim community will wear it
[34:25]only when they come to the senior or to the mosque the
[34:27]reality is for us it's obligatory and that's why we believe maryam
[34:33]throughout her life wore that veil not because of culture but because
[34:40]for her one of the best acts that would build a more
[34:44]moral society would be the act of covering someone asked a question
[34:49]so are you saying that if someone doesn't cover that means they're
[34:52]bad people not at all not at all not at all we
[34:55]have to make this very clear that just because someone doesn't cover
[34:59]christian or muslim doesn't mean they don't love god let me make
[35:06]this clear there are many who do not cover but wallah they
[35:08]can teach you a few things about how to love god they
[35:11]can teach you a few things about how to be one of
[35:14]the followers of the path of god i've met christians who do
[35:18]not wear the same veil as mariam but believe you me they
[35:23]have a love that exists for god where they can teach you
[35:26]a few things when it comes to loving god yes so therefore
[35:30]if i see now in my muslim community let's say even i
[35:34]see in my community the community or the hojo or wherever i
[35:37]see that a girl has taken off her hijab some people will
[35:41]turn around and they'll ostracize they'll kick away others will turn around
[35:47]and even support and say good on you neither one way or
[35:50]the other you don't turn around and ostracize nor do you turn
[35:55]around and act which within islamic law is seen as an act
[35:58]which is sinful rather you say that try and find a way
[36:01]back people go through peaks and troughs in their spirituality in their
[36:08]life so therefore then none in christianity highlighted hijab did not begin
[36:14]with islam this is a vital point many non-muslims think muslims are
[36:18]the ones who introduce hijab or the ones who introduced the veil
[36:21]the very fact that in hinduism there was even discussions of a
[36:25]veil in judaism there were discussions of avail in christianity there were
[36:30]discussions of the veil and that's why i'll never forget if you
[36:35]look at one of the past italian politicians by the name of
[36:40]juliano amato go and read about him you can google his name
[36:43]giuliano amato next to his name write vail all right hijab he
[36:50]was involved at a time when there was a controversy whether to
[36:56]ban the hijab in italy or not do you know what his
[36:59]reply was what was his reply he said if i see all
[37:04]of the depictions of maryam and all the churches she's covered how
[37:07]can i ban the hijab giuliano amato italian says you're telling me
[37:16]to ban that which i've grown up seeing mariam covered with so
[37:20]if i'm gonna ban it for the muslim woman what do i
[37:24]reply when mary herself has a veil that she wears look at
[37:28]that stand from that man that stand at a time where france
[37:33]had questions over the hijab where holland had questions of that where
[37:36]the uk had questions even over the hijab if not the niqab
[37:39]and the maybe you found that an italian politician came forward and
[37:45]said look at mary in the churches isn't she covered whether you
[37:48]say it's just for prayer or not she's married or not jewish
[37:52]custom or not at the end of the day i can see
[37:57]in my own eyes that's here mariam is covered so how can
[38:00]i then put a ban on hijab in this country that stand
[38:05]was from a man who had vision a man who had insight
[38:10]because he's turning around and saying hold on we're trying to pull
[38:13]off the hijab we claim to be those who love mary and
[38:18]we make fun of muslim ladies who are wearing it we make
[38:20]fun of muslim ladies who are covering well i even heard something
[38:23]recently which was quite ridiculous in all honesty there was a lady
[38:29]who was saying that muslim ladies wearing hijab will never be as
[38:33]honorable as christian ladies wearing hijab why sad because christian ladies when
[38:42]they wear hijab they make sure that the hijab is only for
[38:45]the church only for a private place muslim ladies with their hijab
[38:51]go to shiisha cafes muslim ladies with their hijabs work behind the
[38:57]tills of restaurants who then has looked after the hijab more the
[39:01]christian or the muslim the christian lady she only wears it in
[39:06]the church whereas the muslim lady will go on holiday and go
[39:11]and play and she'll wear that which is reserved for god imagine
[39:14]how that table was there's a clever turd clever term i wear
[39:19]the covering of mary in the church whereas you will wear that
[39:23]covering everywhere that in my opinion with all due respect i called
[39:28]it a shaytan eternal in all honesty it's a clever one it's
[39:31]a clever one but i think sometimes there's a shaytani turn you
[39:35]wear it when it's in the church no problem and that muslim
[39:39]lady may wear it in a shisha cafe you may be right
[39:43]but the problem is that muslim lady will not go to the
[39:45]extreme that you'll go to when you take it off a muslim
[39:48]lady may wear it in the church yes and with it she
[39:51]may wear a jacket may wear it in in a restaurant whether
[39:53]she may wear a jacket and jeans she may wear a covering
[39:57]but she won't stoop to some of the levels of your performance
[40:01]outside of the church yes jesus wanted that there is a covering
[40:07]in the church but outside he didn't want you to go down
[40:10]in a nightclub with alcohol all over you wearing hardly anything and
[40:16]then on sunday suddenly come back to christ no that's not the
[40:19]way it should be so you'll find that these arguments come back
[40:21]and forth in india they ask the question hijab or the veil
[40:26]islam it's a culture or is it a religious aspect no for
[40:31]us it's a religious aspect but it certainly can have cultural appearances
[40:36]this is fundamental is there one uniform look of hijab in your
[40:40]own family your mom might wear abaya another might wear a mantu
[40:45]another might wear for example a jacket and jeans another might wear
[40:48]a jumper and trousers is there a uniform way of wearing hijab
[40:53]no ultimately while there is a head covering and there is an
[40:57]outer layer which surah 33 verse 59 of the quran mentions if
[41:13]a person for example is wearing an outer layer coat under it
[41:17]there's a jumper under those trousers that can be seen as a
[41:20]hijab others say no my outs ultimately what you wear in sudan
[41:29]what you wear in iraq what you wearing for example a place
[41:33]like morocco ultimately culture plays a role in each of our veils
[41:38]being different but did allah ask us to wear a head covering
[41:41]as a culture no well allah or covers one's reasoning therefore anything
[41:58]that covers the head in one way or the other is known
[42:03]as hence if someone tells you is the word hijab in the
[42:06]quran meant to reflect head covering no the word for head covering
[42:09]in the quran was the khimar when the quran came in surah
[42:14]24 29 30 31 read those verses and it told the believing
[42:17]woman to cover their heads so therefore for us the believing woman
[42:23]was there only when they go to the mosque only when they
[42:25]pray no when they pray they have to cover when they go
[42:29]to the mosque they have to cover someone said so your muslim
[42:33]ladies even at home they have to cover la baba relax at
[42:35]home our moms our sisters our aunts our grandmothers wow our grandmothers
[42:40]even reach a stage where they don't even have to wear hijab
[42:43]anymore in reality because they've reached the stage virtually of retirement but
[42:47]at home as long as a person doesn't have those want mahram
[42:50]to them then they can take off their hijab so these types
[42:55]of things now when we see in india it's a real shame
[42:59]you look in indian society and that's where maryam can become a
[43:03]unifier for all of us that this lady who is loved by
[43:08]three billion humans on this earth her one veil can solve so
[43:11]many issues in society today from issues of sexual immorality to issues
[43:16]of injustice to issues of understanding culture and religion that lady is
[43:22]one veil the veil is it enough for taqwa alongside the veil
[43:27]there has to be the akhlaq alongside the veil there has to
[43:31]be the humility can't cover yourself and have noah clark and nor
[43:35]do we need the best with no cover both of them have
[43:39]to be there and that's why if you want to see one
[43:45]line that highlights how from a young age her modesty was important
[43:47]not just what she's wearing it's when the angel came in her
[43:52]presence yes when she said i seek refuge from allah from you
[43:57]if you are a person of taqwa true in the quran when
[44:02]the angel gibrael comes into her room it's not like she just
[44:07]looks up and says hey how are you okay who are you
[44:08]she wasn't used to the idea that you just mixed with anyone
[44:12]you don't know with someone who's not maharam to you from a
[44:15]young age not in her 50s or 60s she turned around she
[44:20]sought refuge from allah and she said if you are a man
[44:27]of taqwa what are you doing here in my presence she didn't
[44:29]say don't look at my hair rather generally you're not mahram to
[44:34]me why are you here how comes you're in this presence it
[44:37]showed that the veil wasn't just about covering there were certain boundaries
[44:41]that had to be there because the worst thing for that lady
[44:47]is when that stranger enters upon her she's wondering who is that
[44:50]stranger who has come upon me i have covered myself my whole
[44:55]life i've tried my hardest because some say that's wearing that veil
[44:58]are you telling me we're going to have the most moral society
[45:01]i don't think so but i think you can try and find
[45:05]ways of increasing morality you'll never have a utopia if you bring
[45:08]me a billion ladies wearing hijab in a country and you force
[45:11]hijab you still have girls who are all throwing hijabs off let's
[45:16]not be around the bush you can have a country where you
[45:21]force the hijab on everybody and you want them to all wear
[45:23]the hijab but your intentions to try and bring more morality you
[45:28]won't achieve perfection but you might have more morality achieved than before
[45:34]you might even that is open to question but for a lady
[45:38]like mariam alaihissalam she straight away sought refuge in the rahman yes
[45:44]when she says that i seek refuge in the merciful from you
[45:54]if you are a man of god consciousness for her this man
[45:59]hadn't even attacked any of her brothers he hadn't touched any of
[46:06]her sisters he hadn't beheaded anyone related to her you'd think if
[46:10]the man for example was someone who'd slapped a sister of hers
[46:14]or had burnt the house of her other sister or had killed
[46:20]a baby for example you can understand the fear that's there but
[46:25]that man who entered had never done anything wrong in his life
[46:29]but for her because of her modesty and guarding herself she straight
[46:35]away asked o man be conscious of allah if it was like
[46:40]that for her when it came to him then how was it
[46:47]like for zainab because while jibrael he came towards maryam and he
[46:54]had never ever committed a sin he had never ever harmed anybody
[46:58]and she straight away sought allah's refuge then only allah subhanahu wa
[47:05]tala knows what zainabalaya salam felt on the night of the 11th
[47:14]of maharam when she saw from a distance from which distance some
[47:18]say in reality others say no it was just in a dream
[47:21]of hers when she saw from a distance a man coming towards
[47:28]her in the same way maryam stepped up and said i seek
[47:32]refuge from allah the merciful from you be conscious of the lord
[47:36]zainab allah [Music] there was no more about abdullah he would have
[47:53]normally stood in the way no one's there anymore abel father for
[47:57]his hands to protect zainab oh man don't attack us we're a
[48:03]group of ladies in caraballo she thought who is this man who's
[48:09]coming from the distance oh man don't attack any of us we're
[48:12]a group of ladies who have no one to defend us the
[48:19]reply the reply breaks our hearts every year the man looked at
[48:23]and he said to her zainab don't you recognize your father in
[48:28]front of you when she heard her father the poet begins to
[48:34]write that she said father father father where were you when they
[48:38]took a bella by the foreign father father where were you when
[48:45]the arrow hit the neck of the six-month-old baby farther farther farther
[48:50]where were you when they burnt our tents and so cana run
[48:54]one way and the other farther farther farther where were you when
[48:59]they begun to struggle the ladies me and consumed father where were
[49:05]you where were you when shimmer approached the chest of my brother
