[0:00]Muslim for approximately just over 5 years now.

[0:04]I first heard about Ashure um through well the friend who introduced

[0:09]me to Islam in the first place.

[0:12]Um it's somebody I used to work with um and and when

[0:16]he was introducing me to to the principles of Islam, he also

[0:19]mentioned as a um as a separate subject the story of Imam

[0:24]Hussein the story of Ash.

[0:26]um it wasn't really the reason.

[0:28]It wasn't really I would say it wasn't really a factor behind

[0:31]my conversion.

[0:32]It it wasn't at the forefront of my thinking.

[0:35]Um but it um is some it's a sort of a a

[0:41]feeling I think that developed over time.

[0:44]Um, I suppose my first real contact with the with the um

[0:50]uh with the story was when I uh went to Lebanon in

[0:55]2010, which was shortly before I converted.

[0:58]Um we I went with my friend to the Becka Valley to

[1:02]Balbeck.

[1:02]It was actually to see the Roman ruins there.

[1:05]But we stumbled upon the shrine of um the daughter of Imam

[1:11]Hussein who obviously it's it's it's quite a an unreal event in

[1:17]many ways because it's hard to understand how so soon after the

[1:21]prophet came with the message of Islam.

[1:23]how there could have been this huge split between on the one

[1:29]hand the um the this group who who claimed to be Muslims

[1:33]who claim to be upholding the the um Islamic faith and on

[1:37]the on the other hand the family the prophet who are proclaiming

[1:41]something completely different and to have this confrontation in the way seemed

[1:45]bit unreal to me and I can't something you can't really quite

[1:50]grasp when you hear it for the first time I went to

[1:53]uh Kell at the end of 2012 um with with a group

[1:58]um I you write every word you utter um um it has

[2:03]to be in the pursuit of truth and um honest in the

[2:10]pursuit of honesty um it's um so the so what Kerbala shows

[2:20]you is that um Uh well the the pursuit of ship is

[2:25]is something to die for.

[2:26]It's something you have to live you know every breath every breath

[2:29]has to be um in the in the pursuit of justice and

[2:33]and the pursuit of fairness.

[2:36]Um um and of course there's a common humanity of course to

[2:43]care as well a basic humanity to what Imam Hussein was projecting

[2:48]which um applies to everybody not just Muslims um not just believers

[2:54]um and I think that that is the fundamentals of Kbella which

[2:57]um we need to promote.
