في قلبِ أخيها الحزنُ مَرساها
In her brother’s heart, she pours her anguish
هذي زينبٌ صمتا أيا ليلُ
This is Zainab, remain silent O’ night

وداعٌ بين خيمات أطِل ياليلُ ساعات
Farewell between the tents, prolong your hours O’ night
أطِل ياليلُ ساعاتِ الوداعِ

سكته ليلة العاشر بس صوت الـ جمع لثنين
Silence on the eve of Ashura, only a voice brought us together
هالليله انا وانته وآخر ليله مجتمعين
Tonight, you and I are gathering for the final night
إمسح دمعتي ابعيني وبمسح دمعتك يحسين
Wipe my tear and I shall wipe your tear O’ Hussain
إذا اتريد آنا أنساك
If you want me to forget you
اخذ قلبي انته وياك
I ask you to take my heart with you
وخذ كل حلوة اسنيني
Take away every beautiful memory
وخذ ضحكاتك ابعيني
And take your laughter from my eyes

وراحوا بالخيم نظره لن طفله ابعطش نامت
They walked as they inspected the tents, and saw a child who slept in thirst
يمسح خدها تعبانه حست با الأبو و قامت
Hussain wiped her cheek; despite exhaustion she felt her father’s touch and woke up
رقيه جيت اودعنج على حضنه ابدمع هامت
“Ruqayyah, I’ve come to bid farewell to you” and she poured tears in his arms
يبويه ابقى وياي
Father, stay with me
رضينا ومانبي الماي
We accept to not receive any water
ولا تغيب انته عن عيني
Rather than lose you
صغيره وعا اليتم ويني
I am too young to be orphaned

تتعثر في ممشاها زينب طالعه بالليل
Stumbling in her steps was Zainab when she departed at night
تبجي وبضعيف الصوت صارت تحجي ويّاالخيل
She weeps and in a hoarse voice, she spoke with the horses
لا تروحي بخويه ابعيد ترى درب الفرات طويل
“Do not take my brother distantly for the path to the Euphrates is long”
وعلى ظهرج إذا ايميل
If he tilts on your back
أريد اتحاجي الخيل
I ask you to speak to the horses
إذا طاح اهنا ناديها
If he falls, tell them
عظامه لا تدوسيها
“Do not crush his bones”
