[0:09][Music] sh [Music] [Music] [Music] for our to be accepted in this
[1:04]month of Ramadan to pass with blessings and mercy upon all of
[1:07]us let us raise our voices with a loud the discussion on
[1:21]Willa is a very important and divisive topic what do we mean
[1:32]when we say refers to Authority often times when you tell someone
[1:42]right away they think of the of and the IMs of the
[1:51]this is one topic regarding however when we want to look at
[1:59]the greater picture of Will and Authority we see that there are
[2:07]certain positions of authority that are not disputed amongst Muslims there are
[2:15]some positions of authority like the authority of and the that are
[2:21]disputed between Muslims and then you see within the sh school system
[2:25]for example within the Shia school of thought there are different views
[2:33]on will of certain individuals and certain people so let's address this
[2:40]topic of willah and Authority beginning with the first will and Authority
[2:45]that is wag upon every single person The Authority that is established
[2:52]upon every person that is the will of Allah the first power
[3:08]or the first one who has authority over every single being every
[3:13]single creation is God God is the creator Allah is the he's
[3:22]the one who provid provides for us he gives us and therefore
[3:26]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has will over us and there's different L
[3:31]levels of there's means the The Authority in creation he created me
[3:41]he controls my risk he controls my sustenance he controls if it
[3:46]rains he controls if if I'm happy if I'm not all of
[3:50]that that is controlled by Allah subhana tala and then there is
[3:55]meaning Allah subhana tala is the one who legislates laws and he
[3:59]makes them one [Music] upon me God is the one who legislates
[4:07]laws because God has the authority to impose laws upon his subjects
[4:13]and we are the subjects of Allah subhana wa tala now when
[4:18]it comes to the the authority of God this seems like a
[4:23]very obvious God is the creator therefore he has Authority however in
[4:26]the way you see people practice is that practiced as such where
[4:30]people give the authority to Allah subhana wa ta'ala people appreciate and
[4:36]take in and accept the the authority of God often times you
[4:43]say no whenever I disobey Allah subhah wa ta'ala whenever I do
[4:47]anything Haram whenever I delay the waj whenever I do anything that
[4:51]I'm not supposed to be doing I am standing against the will
[4:56]of Allah subhana wa ta'ala I'm disobeying God with a boss for
[5:02]example or a president or a father or someone who has a
[5:05]authoritative figure would they be okay with people disobeying them they wouldn't
[5:10]be okay with it but people live life with disobeying Allah subhanahu
[5:16]waala every day as if nothing has happened and this is perhaps
[5:25]the greatest will that is being disobeyed even before the of even
[5:30]before any other will and Authority it's the will of Allah subhana
[5:34]wa tala that people disobey on a daily basis and sometimes it
[5:39]becomes normalized sometimes it becomes okay because when I prioritize other things
[5:45]in life when I prioritize my money when I prioritize my my
[5:48]entertainment when I prioritize my wealth and other things we start compromising
[5:55]the will of Allah subhana wa tala we start compromising the authority
[6:00]of God I'm going to give you a story this story took
[6:05]place during the life of IM and IM there is a man
[6:14]there's a man who today the grave of IM is in an
[6:25]area that he used to rule this man his name is H
[6:32]this man he was one of the agents and one of the
[6:38]rulers and governors under the rule of under under the rule of
[6:45]Haron there's a man by the name of abdah or he says
[6:52]one day I go to visit and he's the governor of that
[6:56]area he says I visited him during the month of but this
[7:01]man he came and they brought him water and he washed his
[7:05]hands and then they put the food in front of him and
[7:06]he started eating he said I was about to eat but then
[7:09]I remembered it's the month of Ramadan so I asked he tells
[7:15]me why don't you eat he says I don't have an excuse
[7:17]that allows me to eat maybe the Amir maybe you have an
[7:22]excuse maybe you're sick or something he said tells him no I
[7:28]don't have any reason to I'm not sick he tells him then
[7:30]why are you breaking your fast you're eating in the month of
[7:34]Ramadan he tells him I've reached a point in my life where
[7:41]it doesn't matter whether I fast or I don't fast anymore tells
[7:43]him how could you say that what have you done so then
[7:48]he begins and he tells him the story and I'm saying the
[7:52]story to show how sometimes people they're willing to sell their faith
[7:58]and their allegiance to Allah subhanahu wa tala for the sake of
[8:01]this he says one day the governor har he called me he
[8:09]brings a he brings a servant and he calls me and he
[8:11]tells me in the middle of the night he wakes me up
[8:16]he says the har wants you wants you he says I go
[8:22]and harun tells me how much are you willing to give up
[8:25]for us he tells him I'm willing to give up my wealth
[8:31]and I'm willing to give up my life for you he tells
[8:35]him no go he says he sent me back a while later
[8:41]he called me again I got scared he tells me how much
[8:43]are you willing to give up and sacrifice for us he says
[8:49]I'm willing to give up my wealth and my life and my
[8:51]children and my family for your sake he smiled but then he
[8:58]tells him no go back the third time he goes back he
[9:03]calls him a third time he tells him how much are you
[9:05]willing to give up for me he tells him I'm willing to
[9:09]give up he says the has a sword in his hand what
[9:13]am I supposed to say I'm willing to give up my life
[9:16]and my wealth and my children and my Dean and My Religion
[9:23]for you he says when I said that Haron smiled then he
[9:26]tells me to follow this go and follow the servant he says
[9:32]I followed him he took me in a house this house had
[9:36]a well in the middle in the garden in the yard in
[9:38]the middle and three rooms he says he opens one of the
[9:44]rooms and there are 60 men between old between middle Ag and
[9:49]between young they're all tied up he says he gives me a
[9:55]sword and he tells me y start killing them one by one
[9:57]he says I asked them who are they he says I found
[10:01]out these are from the descendants of not the that we're hearing
[10:10]right now meaning literal actual descendants from the the and he says
[10:15]he gives me a sword there were 20 in this room I
[10:19]killed them and we throw the body in the well and then
[10:21]he says he goes and he opens the second room there's another
[10:25]20 in there he says I kill them one after the other
[10:30]and then we throw the bodies in the well and then the
[10:32]third room there was another 20 in there he says I killed
[10:37]them all 19 until the 20th an old man whose eyebrows had
[10:40]come they had covered his eyes he looked at me he tells
[10:46]me what will you answer Allah on the day of judgment within
[10:51]one day you killed 60 from the descendants of Al he says
[10:55]my hand started shaking the sword fell thead tells me do the
[11:01]follow the commands of the khif he says I picked up the
[11:03]sword and I killed the man and he says what what point
[11:07]of me fasting right now what's that going to do right now
[11:10]this story ends here with him but that man Abdullah andri he
[11:17]goes to the IM he goes to IM and he tells the
[11:22]story to the IM the IM of course he was very saddened
[11:23]but the Imam he says a statement he says him giving up
[11:32]on Allah subhanahu wa taala is a greater sin than killing 60
[11:38]SS in one day the fact that you gave up on the
[11:40]mercy of Allah subhana wa tala so this is to bring the
[11:46]point that sometimes some people they're willing to sell their faith they're
[11:51]willing to sell their time they're willing to sell their life their
[11:55]children and even their own faith for the sake of this dun
[12:00]and they let go of the will of Allah subhana wa tala
[12:02]this is the first will that is w a rule of position
[12:07]of authority upon every single individual second my dear brothers and sisters
[12:12]who comes after who comes after God has and authority over every
[12:27]one of us if I'm a true then I have to put
[12:36]in front of me ahead of my desires ahead of my needs
[12:41]and Allah says in the Quran if you truly love God how
[12:52]does that love to God manifest it manifest through the loving and
[12:58]The Obedience of alaih meaning following all the orders of the Prophet
[13:03]today I have to ask myself this question am I truly obedient
[13:07]to Al do I truly follow the Sunnah and the way and
[13:17]the traditions of when gives a judgment do I accept it or
[13:19]do I not accept it Allah says in the Quran [Music] they
[13:30]will not reach the level of IM until they make as a
[13:35]until they make as a judge in their own disputes in their
[13:38]own life's Affairs so this is the of and this is the
[13:50]second most important after the of God and if I am a
[13:55]true follower of God then I have to follow theah of now
[14:02]what comes next that is the position where there's dispute amongst the
[14:08]Muslims who which leadership comes after here you see there's Division and
[14:16]the fact that there's division in this issue the issue of leadership
[14:23]after the prophet it shows that alai was not truly obeyed and
[14:26]if was not truly obeyed then that shows God was not truly
[14:32]obeyed today Muslims they all say we follow the prophet but after
[14:37]the prophet there is diversion there is a there's not a clear
[14:45]path not everyone is on the same page and there's two narratives
[14:48]The Narrative of the followers of the it says you have to
[14:56]follow the one who alai Al appointed and S alai before his
[15:00]death he says very [Music] clearly I'm leaving behind the two wey
[15:10]things you put them on a scale they have to be equal
[15:14]with one another the book of God and my family we have
[15:20]to ask ourselves as Muslims am I fulfilling my role and my
[15:26]responsibility towards the book of God some of us probably never some
[15:28]of us probably we don't read the Quran some of us don't
[15:31]obey the rules of the Quran and second parallel to the Quran
[15:39]are the today do Muslims follow the do Muslims show the love
[15:43]and the respect and reverence and give them that position of authority
[15:47]that Allah subhana wa TAA gave them you see that unfortunately immediately
[15:52]after the death of the Prophet there was a deviance there was
[15:56]an act of betrayal to and the Quran is very clear your
[16:05]the one who has authority over you is Allah and the prophet
[16:13]and from the who this verse it applies to no one else
[16:27]other than Amir after the one who has authority of over you
[16:37]is God that's obvious and there's no dispute about that and from
[16:44]the what does that mean that means I cannot take a f
[16:50]I cannot take aaf I cannot take someone who does not have
[16:53]IM as a leader and this is the first mistake even before
[16:59]you see that the um they went after individuals that were known
[17:05]to be people that were people that would disobey Allah subhah wa
[17:11]ta'ala in the community people that would do wrong this is one
[17:19]and who are they who from the the one who upholds prayer
[17:33]and gives zakat in the state of while doing go and read
[17:40]all of the tap of the Muslims Sunni and Sh and any
[17:43]and you will see that this does not apply to anyone other
[17:50]than which he gave at the Hadith says uh he gave his
[17:56]ring to a beggar he came in the m and was watching
[18:02]and the prophet was watching and the beggar comes out and he
[18:05]says that man who's praying who's doing he's the one who gave
[18:15]me his ring becomes very happy and he says oh Allah my
[18:18]brother M he asked you he says he says M asked for
[18:35]Haron to be his supporter and I ask you [Music] oh he
[18:48]says and just like M asked for Haron I asked for as
[18:54]soon as finished this Dua this verse came down [Music] this was
[19:10]another proof about the of is the unanimously accepted theith that is
[19:18]see sometimes there's meaning there's one chain one person who heard from
[19:22]another who heard from another who heard from another there might be
[19:27]someone who's honest there might be someone who's not honest in the
[19:29]chain and then there's a it means many people you have a
[19:36]wave of people they all heard it from who they all attended
[19:39]and they narrated it to other people no one would come and
[19:44]no one will come and reject that that was the day of
[19:48]he wanted to establish do I have will over you what does
[19:54]he say he gets up and he says do I not have
[20:01]authority over you they tell him yes of course Allah and then
[20:04]he raises the hands of and he says whoever I am his
[20:13]M then Ali is his M today they come and they say
[20:18]no he just did all of this this whole show stopping over
[20:21]a 100,000 people after being exhausted after coming back from the Hajj
[20:25]in the middle of the day on a very hot day just
[20:29]to tell people guys Ali is my friend you think would do
[20:34]such a thing you think would die he knows he's dying he
[20:39]tells them he's dying and then he comes and he tells them
[20:44]is my friend that's it is this how religion has become a
[20:51]joke where he does this just to say Ali is my friend
[20:53]of course doesn't make sense so we acknowledge the will of God
[20:58]and the prophet and now here's where the topic gets a little
[21:06]bit interesting there's other individuals that have Willa over us after the
[21:11]Imam and God and the prophets who hasah over me some of
[21:18]these are disputed and some of these are agreed upon within the
[21:22]sh school of thought after the IM during the time of the
[21:30]of the IM who should I refer to who should I go
[21:35]to who has been given Authority from the Im so for me
[21:41]to go to so that I can take accurate information regarding my
[21:46]faith those are the those are what the referred to as those
[21:53]who narrate thei of the and those are the the scholars and
[22:03]since the time of until now all Scholars are in agreement that
[22:11]the fak The Scholar has a certain level of a certain level
[22:19]of authority in fact all the scholars the majority of the scholars
[22:25]they say that the the he has the authority to give fatwa
[22:32]give fatwa this isal and this Isam this is one second he
[22:36]has the authority to judge between people judge between people because if
[22:42]I have a problem in my life if you have a marital
[22:46]dispute if you have a business dispute who should we go to
[22:48]when we have a when we have a problem when we have
[22:51]a dispute should I go to a non-muslim to judge between me
[22:54]or should I go to someone who judges based on the Quran
[22:56]and based on the Sunnah of and based on the laws of
[23:02]Islam obviously the the thing that I have to do what is
[23:07]wag on me is to go and find what Allah subhana wa
[23:09]tala rules so common sense dictates that now if I don't find
[23:15]I can't have direct access to God I don't how how am
[23:17]I supposed to know the rule of God I don't have access
[23:20]to I don't have access to the IM who should I refer
[23:22]to I go to the this is through common sense and through
[23:28]and narrations so the fak has authority to give fatwa the authority
[23:33]to judge and what people refer to what Scholars refer to as
[23:40]Authority in issues that have to do with public goods the the
[23:47]things that have to do with the community the greater good of
[23:50]the community for example there are orphans who's responsible to take care
[23:55]of these orphans this becomes the duty of the to make sure
[24:00]that the takes care of these orphans or there's someone who's on
[24:03]life support it's the duty of the to come and cover this
[24:09]and and and deal with this or for example there's a issue
[24:11]of divorce a husband is abusive to his wife and he's not
[24:17]he's refusing to divorce her here the fak has the authority to
[24:21]carry out first enforce and tell him you need to change your
[24:26]life and and then tell him to divorce if he does not
[24:28]then he has the authority to exercise the divorce so this is
[24:33]what is referred to as in the matters that have to do
[24:40]with public good and that proof for this is several narrations first
[24:43]of all there's a verse in the Quran Allah says in the
[24:49]Quran if someone does not go by the rules of God then
[24:54]that means you're not really giving the will to Allah so me
[24:59]as a Muslim as aie believer I have to always make sure
[25:02]that I'm following the rules of God and in Islam the rules
[25:07]are five there's not a sixth rule everything in life is either
[25:13]W or Haram or what or or there's no sixth category and
[25:22]how do I know what rule applies to what this I have
[25:27]to go to the rule of Allah subhana tala the rule of
[25:29]God Allah subhana tala is the one who judges what is the
[25:34]rule so I go through through the IM if the IM is
[25:40]not present then through the so in a Hadith and this is
[25:42]in this is a Hadith narrated from he says the IM IM
[26:02]he says if there is a new issue that comes up who
[26:05]do you go to you go to you go to those who
[26:11]narrate our Hadith because they are the of Allah upon you and
[26:14]I am the of Allah upon them in another Hadith he says
[26:22]if there's from you that have no that they have a strong
[26:28]understanding of the the Imam says if there's someone who knows the
[26:43]Halal and theam and they know the Hadith then other people who
[26:48]don't know the Hadith they have to accept this person as a
[26:51]they have to accept this person as a judge because this person
[26:54]they're God conscious they're afraid of God and they're telling you what
[26:59]the IM wants you to know so this is the level of
[27:06]of the now there have been some Scholars and there is a
[27:13]discussion on the level and the basically how much Authority does a
[27:18]have the majority of the scholars they say and the issues that
[27:24]have to do with public goods but there are some Scholars most
[27:27]uh important importantly and the one who stands out the most is
[27:33]IM who came with the theory and he implemented it other Scholars
[27:36]they had a theory but it was not really implemented and that
[27:40][Music] is meaning that the has absolute authority authority meaning just like
[27:49]if the Imam was here the Imam has that Authority the fak
[27:53]has that Authority so this is also a level and discussion that
[27:56]there is some dispute about the scholars the majority they believe in
[28:04]the of only in the issues that have to do with the
[28:06]public good and the divorce and and things like that and then
[28:10]there's a group of Scholars that say no the fak has Authority
[28:14]just like the IM okay so now after the fak who has
[28:20]Authority the Father the father and the grandfather from the paternal side
[28:29]your father had has will over you your father has authority over
[28:33]you now on a in a normal case no one has authority
[28:41]over anyone other other than God and the Imam but the father
[28:45]because of a Del because of a um a ruling from the
[28:50]im a Hadith from the IM the father has will but not
[28:52]absolute not absolute authority over the kids the father has Authority over
[29:02]the male son over his male son up until the age of
[29:04]puberty until the age of puberty after the age of puberty you
[29:11]do not have religious authority to tell him sit here do this
[29:14]do that go here go there he he's a free person to
[29:19]do what he wants yes the father has the moral duty to
[29:24]up give him the proper upbringing and raise him do and in
[29:31]fact is upon everyone not only the father but Allah subhana says
[29:36]in the Quran command your family for Salah because you're the closest
[29:42]person but the father has authority of the child the son up
[29:46]until the age of puberty and this is it doesn't mean absolute
[29:50]Authority you have over this person because you as a father you
[29:56]have to make sure you put his money his funds you have
[29:58]to make sure that you do what is in his best interest
[30:02]not what is in your best interest as a father even the
[30:05]father is held responsible the father must do what is in the
[30:12]best interest of the child so this is um regarding the will
[30:15]of the father over her son now can a father come and
[30:21]take money from his son no legally from Islamic islamically the father
[30:26]cannot unless the father is using that money in the best interest
[30:31]of the Sun for example right now I want to come and
[30:33]put it here I want to put it in this investment it
[30:35]falls in the best interest of the son then the father is
[30:38]allowed to do so otherwise the father islamically by H is is
[30:46]not allowed to but morally he is morally and in through in
[30:50]a manners base the father is allowed to a man comes to
[30:55]and he tells the prophet Allah my father every day he comes
[31:00]and he takes from my money every day he comes and he
[31:01]takes money from me and I'm tired of this what does tell
[31:10]him tells him you and your fa your money belong to your
[31:13]father meaning what are you saying you're coming and complaining that your
[31:17]father is taking money from you everything that you have in your
[31:22]life is from your father everything that you have comes from your
[31:25]parents if your parents are asking you in fact if your parents
[31:27]do not not have it's a it's wag upon you to come
[31:33]and give them it's waj upon you to provide for them so
[31:37]this is the authority of the father with regards to the son
[31:41]now with regards to the daughter same rules same case except that
[31:46]the authority of the father goes a level further only with the
[31:52]subject of marriage only when it comes to marriage if the daughter
[31:56]even after bu even after after she reaches the age of puberty
[32:01]if she is a virgin if she's not been married before the
[32:04]the majority of the scholars they say that the father has Authority
[32:09]only in that case and the father a lot of people they
[32:13]come and they say I'm a father I could tell my daughter
[32:14]you marry this person and you marry that person no doesn't work
[32:21]that way the father has to carry out the best decision that
[32:24]falls in the best interest of the daughter so for example example
[32:28]if a young man came and proposed and this man had the
[32:33]and had the IM and had everything but the man for example
[32:36]speaks a different language as me the man is from a different
[32:41]culture can I as a father all of the other criteria they're
[32:44]there can I as a father say no you do not marry
[32:48]my daughter no I cannot do that here when there's abuse when
[32:51]it's not falling in the best interest of the daughter then even
[32:55]the father loses his authority and it goes back to the fak
[32:59]so the father Yes the father and the mother but mostly the
[33:05]father he can filter if someone came that was not good and
[33:10]the daughter has not been married before then he could come and
[33:13]say no this is not good but he cannot come and tell
[33:15]her you have to marry this person and you have to marry
[33:17]this person there are some fathers they say I'm never giving my
[33:19]daughter to marry to anyone unless it's this person who comes from
[33:24]this much money and this this many qualifications this is Haram and
[33:28]the father does not have that type of authority now someone might
[33:32]come and say what about the mother does the mother have authority
[33:38]unfortunately islamically through Islamic law The Authority belongs to the father and
[33:46]the paternal grandfather the father and the paternal grandfather even even the
[33:49]maternal grandfather does not have Willa over his grandchildren only the father
[33:55]and the paternal grandfather and their will is very limited only in
[34:02]these cases cases of marriage if say for example a girl did
[34:05]not have a father and her her father and her grandfather had
[34:10]passed away then no one has willay over her they can't come
[34:12]and say oh I'm going to bring her uncle I'm going to
[34:16]bring her brother because in some Communities In some cultures the brother
[34:19]they become the dictators they come and they say I'm not letting
[34:22]my sister get married I'm only giving her to this person I'm
[34:26]only telling the the brothers do not have the one ones that
[34:29]have the will they're the father and the paternal grandfather now after
[34:33]the father there is also a level of will for the husband
[34:40]as well but this is a will that is it comes based
[34:45]on responsibilities today some husbands are like I'm going to get married
[34:48]so I could be the boss and order my wife you do
[34:49]this and you do that it doesn't work that way Allah subhah
[34:54]wa ta'ala says in the Quran Allah subhah wa taala says in
[34:57]the Quran that [Music] the you want to be the boss you
[35:14]have to spend you can't be say I'm the boss and I
[35:15]I I make decisions and you want to sit and you don't
[35:19]want to spend no it comes with a price you need to
[35:22]spend and here it's waj upon the husband even if the wife
[35:25]has a lot of money even if mashallah she's millionaire and the
[35:29]husband is poor he has to spend on the wife it's his
[35:34]religious duty this is with with that comes the responsibility and of
[35:40]course between the husband and the wife there are duties if the
[35:46]husband is not fulfilling his duty to the wife then uh he
[35:48]loses his will and if the wife loses if the wife does
[35:53]not fulfill her responsibilities and her duties to the husband then she
[35:58]also loses her ha she loses her right so there's but these
[36:01]these rights they come with responsibilities if they're implemented together then society
[36:07]and everyone will be at peace so my dear brothers and sisters
[36:10]this was a quick summary over Willa the Willa of God Allah
[36:18]has authority over us has Authority the IMs of the beginning with
[36:22]to the IM of our time right now and then the and
[36:27]the the there's dispute about the level of authority that they have
[36:31]the father has Authority and the husband has Authority alhamd let us
[36:45]raise our hands in Dua as it is almost time forar and
[36:50]when someone is hungry their stomach has will over them as well
[36:58]right it controls the decisions that we make [Music] [Music] qu for
[37:29][Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Sal [Music]
