[41:33]for Jimmy.
[42:46]Allow me to extend my felicitations and congratulations to each and every
[42:54]member of the community and the Shia world at large on the
[42:57]occasion of the wilada of our third imam Abu Abdah Hussein salawat.
[43:04]>> [screaming] >> It is indeed a great privilege and honor to
[43:13]be back here in Portsmouth on this great occasion of the wad
[43:18]of our third Immisam.
[43:20]And I pray to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to grant you and
[43:27]I all even more to be in service of Muhammad and Ali
[43:32]Muhammad Aliatam on occasions of celebrations and commemorations of personalities that we
[43:54]give reverence to.
[43:56]We understand that getting together to express our insignificant love for them
[44:06]is an honor and a privilege for us.
[44:12]what these personalities are for you and I.
[44:16]It is important for us to understand that it is our great
[44:22]honor that we in our own insignificant ways express our love towards
[44:30]them.
[44:29]However, we must also realize that every ritual in Islam which is
[44:38]prescribed whether it is prescribed through Quran, whether it is prescribed through
[44:44]the a hadith of the prophet and the immiam or it is
[44:48]prescribed by the scholars of Islam.
[44:52]each one of this ritual is not empty and that there is
[44:58]a purpose behind each and every ritual that you and I observe
[45:03]and follow.
[45:04]There are certain rituals that are obligatory upon us.
[45:09]There are certain rituals they are recommended upon us but they are
[45:14]full of wisdom.
[45:15]So when we look at these rituals such as coming here to
[45:21]the mosque, sitting down on a day like today to celebrate the
[45:24]occasion of the birth of Imam Alisam, although you and I have
[45:31]left our families and our homes and the comforts of our sofas,
[45:36]we are here a to express our insignificant love and allegiance to
[45:41]our imams.
[45:43]But at the same time the purpose of this ritual was for
[45:48]us to come and learn from the university of the Imam Alisam.
[45:52]It was not an empty ritual for us to just come and
[45:58]bring ourselves here wearing new clothes, reciting salawats, listening to the fa
[46:01]and then go back home without any lesson that was learned from
[46:07]the lives of these imams or these personalities that we either celebrate
[46:11]or commemorate in our majalis.
[46:15]And therefore it is important for us to understand that this ritual
[46:19]of ours of coming to the mosque sitting here together with each
[46:24]other celebrating the occasion of the birth is not like an ordinary
[46:27]birthday that we celebrate but it is here for the purpose of
[46:34]us to learn from Quran from the a hadith from the lives
[46:38]of these illuminating guides that you and I have.
[46:43]Each ritual has an expression and a deeper meaning to it.
[46:50]No matter what that ritual is, you will see that there is
[46:53]a manifestation and an expression of that particular ritual.
[46:56]And at the same time, there is a deeper meaning to it.
[47:01]So a ritual is a stepping stone for you and I to
[47:06]arrive at the essence of what it was for which the ritual
[47:09]was introduced.
[47:11]Let us look at one ritual or one obligatory ritual in Quran
[47:16]where Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala commands you and I to establish prayer.
[47:24]He wants us to establish prayer at under no circumstances is prayer
[47:31]forgiven.
[47:33]You and I have to pray.
[47:34]No matter what our state is, whether we are standing, sitting or
[47:38]even if it means that we have to pray with the signs
[47:43]of our eyes and our hands, we must pray.
[47:47]There is no escape from prayer.
[47:49]But then you ask a question, what does a prayer do to
[47:54]me?
[47:53]Does it benefit Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala at all?
[47:57]When I pray, does it give anything to Allah?
[48:01]Does it increase?
[48:04]an iota in his treasures you will realize it does nothing in
[48:09]the treasures of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala if I decide not to
[48:12]pray do I cause any loss or is it any thing that
[48:20]I do which affects Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in any which way
[48:29]the answer is no the prayer in If you do good, you
[48:37]do good for yourselves.
[48:36]If you do evil, it is your problem.
[48:40]Allah has absolutely no benefit.
[48:43]Whether you pray or you don't pray, the benefit is mine.
[48:48]So what does a prayer do to me?
[48:51]It is an obligatory prayer.
[48:51]I have to pray.
[48:53]At the same time, I know it does nothing to Allah subhanana
[48:56]wa ta'ala.
[48:58]It increases nothing in his treasures.
[49:01]It reduces nothing if I don't pray.
[49:03]Then what is this prayer doing to me?
[49:06]So the prayer has been made obligatory for you and I to
[49:12]pray to benefit me for my goodness.
[49:16]And how is it a benefit to me?
[49:22]How is this prayer or this obligatory ritual benefiting me?
[49:26]So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in Quran he says the function
[49:38]of the prayer the prayer itself is playing a pivotal and significant
[49:44]role in keeping me away from obscinities and evil acts.
[49:51]So the ritual the manifestation of the ritual is if it is
[50:02]infused with the spirit then this prayer I am told by the
[50:09]holy prophet has the capability to take me to experience.
[50:14]So the holy prophet says is is the ascension for a believer
[50:27]or of a believer.
[50:25]So when you see I pray I do I do sujud it
[50:32]is obligatory upon me.
[50:34]I am aware it does nothing to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[50:36]I am aware it increases nothing in the treasures of Allah subhanana
[50:40]wa ta'ala.
[50:42]I am also aware if I don't pray it makes no difference
[50:45]whatsoever in the grand scheme of things.
[50:48]And therefore why is it that I pray?
[50:52]Allah says I have made prayer obligatory for you so that you
[50:56]are away or kept away from obscinities and evil acts.
[51:02]If you pray with spirit infused in your prayer the prayer can
[51:09]take you to maj.
[51:09]If you are praying without the spirit infused in it, then this
[51:16]ritual is nothing but an animation of the prayer that you and
[51:20]I do in our lives.
[51:23]And therefore, every ritual that you and I follow, whether it is
[51:26]the obligatory one or it is something that has been recommended by
[51:30]the imams or take an example of fasting, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[51:36]doesn't want to keep you and I hungry.
[51:39]He doesn't have fun.
[51:39]and he doesn't enjoy that you are hungry.
[51:42]Uh alhamdulillah we all of us here most of us probably have
[51:46]experienced those long fasts.
[51:48]We used to open our fast at quarter to 10.
[51:51]I don't know in Portsmouth probably quarter to 10.
[51:53]We used to open our fast at quarter to 10.
[51:56]We used to start at 2:30 in the morning long fasts.
[52:00]Was God enjoying this?
[52:02]In my mind, if I try to understand what was happening, it
[52:08]is not that Allah in Quran says to you and I he
[52:15]wants ease for you.
[52:18]He does not want difficulty for you.
[52:20]But he has made fasting obligatory.
[52:22]He wants you to fast from a certain time to a certain
[52:27]time.
[52:26]What does it do to you, my lord?
[52:28]Nothing.
[52:28]What does it do to me?
[52:38]So that you may become God conscious, so that you may become
[52:44]pious, so that you may acquire tawa.
[52:46]And that is why I have made it obligatory.
[52:50]If salat was not obligatory, if song was not obligatory, proximity to
[52:55]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala would not have been an easy task for
[53:02]you and I.
[53:01]And therefore every ritual has a deeper meaning to it.
[53:05]What we need to do is understand the meaning of that particular
[53:09]ritual and why it was made obligatory or why it was introduced.
[53:14]Coming to majus today or m today that we are celebrating the
[53:24]occasion of the ofdah hussein.
[53:32]The purpose is the manifestation of it is here as you see
[53:38]it.
[53:39]Each and every one of us is here probably.
[53:42]We have worn new clothes.
[53:43]We have worn scent.
[53:46]We have come here uh to celebrate the occasion of the birth
[53:50]of uh the doan of martyrs Abu Abdah Hussein.
[54:00]But what purpose does this serve?
[54:04]And that is why majus was introduced.
[54:07]That is why Mahil was introduced.
[54:12]So that we may come here in the university of the Aulatam.
[54:16]Learn lessons from Quran.
[54:20]Apply those lessons into our lives.
[54:23]come back the following year having grown from each majus that we
[54:28]have heard, having taken lessons from it, having improved in our character,
[54:33]having improved in our spirituality to come back the following year to
[54:39]truly celebrate my growth.
[54:41]That's what it means.
[54:44]It's not an empty ritual for us to come here, sit, listen
[54:48]to the maj.
[54:50]How many of people pray on a daily basis but there is
[54:58]no growth?
[54:57]How many of people fast apart from the month of Ramadan but
[55:03]there is no growth?
[55:06]How many of people are attendees of the mosque in every single
[55:12]program?
[55:12]Yet when you ask them a question after so many years of
[55:16]attending the program regarding a name of a particular imam's mother or
[55:20]wife, you will see that they are struggling why there is no
[55:27]growth.
[55:28]When a ritual becomes a goal, then there is absolutely no progress.
[55:32]But when a ritual becomes a stepping stone to understand the goal,
[55:38]then there is growth for you and I on a daily basis
[55:44]in our lives.
[55:43]Keeping this in mind, I wish to speak about Abu Abdah Hussein.
[55:51]Before I start about Imam Hussein Alisam just for baraka I want
[55:59]to speak about him for a little while and then the purpose
[56:05]of our malis and our mahavil which is what I want to
[56:10]discuss today.
[56:09]Let us just remember that every thing that is prescribed to us
[56:17]has a deeper meaning to it and that we need to understand
[56:23]why a certain thing was made obligatory or a ritual was introduced
[56:28]in our lives.
[56:31]Otherwise a ritual remains but the goal escapes us and it is
[56:36]detrimental for our spiritual growth for us to remain stagnant with empty
[56:45]rituals and I say this poem many times from the pulpit and
[56:50]those of you who have heard my lectures will have heard that
[56:55]I recite this poem quite regularly.
[56:56]Abbal has a masterpiece of his known as Shikwa.
[57:00]And then he has a response to Shikwa known as Jawab Shikwa.
[57:07]In one of his responses to Jawab Shikwa stanza number 16 if
[57:12]I am not mistaken or 17 he says something beautiful regarding what
[57:17]I have just spoken.
[57:20]Says the speakers of the community do not have heat in their
[57:34]speech anymore.
[57:36]This is he's lamenting of the people of Pakistan who he was
[57:41]trying to motivate to understand the value of who they were.
[57:46]So he says the speakers in the community don't have heat and
[57:55]fire in the speech anymore.
[58:05]There is no kindle the lightning kindle in their speech broadmindedness has
[58:17]escaped them and then he says the ritual of aan has remained
[58:29]the spirit of bilal is missing the actual ritual ritual of giving
[58:38]a every mosque you go to from New Zealand.
[58:39]If you take from New Zealand, every hour you will go, you
[58:44]will see every single hour or probably less, there is an adan
[58:46]going on somewhere in the world is calling for prayer.
[58:53]Allahbar every moment there is adan.
[58:59]So he says The of Aan is there.
[59:07]The spirit of Bal is missing.
[59:12]The philosophy has remained.
[59:15]The teachings of Gazali have disappeared.
[59:16]And then he moves on.
[59:19]He says the mosques are lamenting that the people who come to
[59:28]pray are no more there.
[59:29]Although the mosques are full, although the mosques are full, they come
[59:38]to the mosque, you will see many rows of people praying.
[59:42]He says, although there are so many people, the mosque is still
[59:48]lamenting.
[59:49]Why?
[59:50]Why are they lamenting?
[59:54]Those people who are godly in the mosques are missing from the
[60:04]mosque.
[60:04]Although there are many people who come to the mosque, but those
[60:07]who have the godly spirit in them like the companions of the
[60:13]holy prophet of Islam, those people are missing in the mosque.
[60:16]And therefore my fellow brothers and sisters let us make our majalis
[60:20]that we come for in our mafil a place to learn a
[60:26]lesson and not make it just an empty ritual for us.
[60:31]Abu Abdah Hussein four after Hijra four years after the migration of
[60:41]the holy prophet of Islam.
[60:43]Uh there was a good news in the house of Ali and
[60:47]Fatima.
[60:48]It was the third of Shaaban when our third Imam Hussein Ali
[61:01]was born.
[61:03]It was a new dawn.
[61:04]The doan of martyrs was coming to this world.
[61:08]The ware of Amya was coming to this world.
[61:13]The inheritor of each and every prophet was coming to the world.
[61:19]The circumstances surrounding the birth of our third imam were not ordinary
[61:25]circumstances.
[61:26]He was raised in the house of Nouwa.
[61:30]He was raised in the house of Imama and the circumstances around
[61:34]his birth just for the sake of my young listeners here.
[61:39]And I'm just going through one or two of the moments of
[61:44]the circumstances which Imam Alisam was born and some before I come
[61:48]to what I wish to speak as a message of today.
[61:54]The apostle of Allah Muhammad must upon the birth of Imatam came
[62:06]to his aunt Safia and he said to her give me this
[62:12]Hussein.
[62:13]Hussein was born and he says give me give Hussein to me.
[62:17]She responded She says to the holy prophet Allah, "Hang on, we
[62:27]haven't washed him yet." This is what she responds.
[62:31]The holy prophet of Islam is asking, "Oh, will you wash her?"
[62:42]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala forget washing him.
[62:45]He has sent him pure.
[62:49]This is what Abu Abdah Hussein is upon his birth when the
[62:55]holy prophet says Hussein Hussein Hussein is from me and I am
[63:02]from Hussein.
[63:01]Look at the depth of the statement of Imam Ali of the
[63:07]holy prophet as to what he is trying to say when Hussein
[63:09]Hussein of of me it makes sense.
[63:11]I am of Hussein.
[63:13]You need to go deeper to understand what the holy prophet of
[63:17]Islam was thinking at this time.
[63:19]From the Sunni sources, Abu Hurra reports that I saw the apostle
[63:26]of Allah lying with his legs stretched and I saw him holding
[63:32]Hussein with his two fingers and Hussein holding on to his two
[63:35]fingers walking from his feet all the way to his chest and
[63:40]then going back.
[63:39]Abuura says, "I heard the holy prophet of Islam say, I heard
[63:46]the holy prophet of Islam says, Hussein.
[63:50]Oh Allah, I love Hussein.
[64:03]Has a very famous statement in which he says that we are
[64:10]the says nothing and nobody can be compared to us.
[64:22]Sometimes you wonder when you are listening to lectures.
[64:29]Sometimes you wonder people trying to bring comparison between a personality and
[64:37]another while this statement of imam Ali says don't even bother.
[64:41]There is no way anybody can be compared to us.
[64:52]Our house is a household where Quran was revealed.
[64:59]The source of risalah is from within us.
[65:06]One day the apostle of Allah walked into the house of his
[65:13]daughter Zah of his beloved darling child Zaharam.
[65:22]and he found his daughter resting while I imam Hussein was resting
[65:28]on her chest and the lady of light was sleeping.
[65:36]What was amazing there was that both mother and child were sleeping
[65:40]but the grind or the the domestic grind what we call in
[65:44]udu chaki was moving on its own and noticed that Hussein is
[65:54]sleeping zah is sleeping and this chaki is moving on its own.
[65:57]So he says And Hussein was sleeping on her chest and before
[66:13]her was a mill that was moving without anybody's assistance.
[66:19]The holy prophet smiled and then he said to Ali, he says,
[66:33]"Oh, don't you know that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has angels who
[66:42]are hovering around the earth and you know what their job is?
[66:53]Their job is to serve Muhammad and Ali Muhammad.
[66:57]Don't be surprised by this grinder moving on its own.
[67:03]The angels are moving it for Zah.
[67:05]So when we look at these personalities, we come to realize saying
[67:10]don't compare anything with the B ever.
[67:14]when he was invited Imam Hussein Alisam or summoned to the Darbar
[67:21]of Wed in Medina for the oath of allegiance.
[67:25]Remember what or what Im Ali said at that time he says
[67:31]ina we are the of the household of the source of where
[67:45]the message is.
[67:46]We are a household where there is ins and outs of angels
[67:54]ascension and descending of the angels with us.
[68:01]Allah began and he will end with us.
[68:06]And then he says you are asking for the oath of allegiance
[68:10]from me where Yazid and of all the people the one who
[68:15]is asking me for the oath of allegiance is Yazid.
[68:17]And then he talks about who Yazid is.
[68:21]And he says where Yazid and who is this Yazid?
[68:26]He is Rajulun.
[68:30]He is a individual drunkard.
[68:38]Imam says he is the killer of innocent lives.
[68:49]He is an open sinner.
[68:52]And then I im says mythly the likes of me by your
[68:59]own can never pay the oath of allegiance to the likes of
[69:06]he is distancing himself from this.
[69:10]Let us discuss Abu Abdah Hussein.
[69:17]The purpose of a Zadari, the purpose of sitting in malis, not
[69:22]only a zadari but the purpose of sitting in malis, the purpose
[69:25]of celebrations, the purpose of commemoration, sitting in the majis, following a
[69:31]particular type of ritual as prescribed to us as following for many
[69:35]many years.
[69:36]What is the actual purpose of it is to understand that the
[69:44]message of Hussein's transcends beyond all sectarian uh confines of of the
[69:51]world.
[69:52]When you look at Imam Husseinatam, you will see each and every
[69:58]value that he stood for.
[69:59]It transcends beyond sectarian confines.
[70:01]His message is universal.
[70:04]He sacrificed himself in the altar of truth not for the Shia
[70:12]community alone but for humanity at large.
[70:16]His heritage is noble and it cannot be reduced to Hussein being
[70:22]the imam of the Muslims alone.
[70:27]He is the leader of the entire universe.
[70:27]That's why the poet says in let a human bring an awakening
[70:38]of his intellectual selfare.
[70:42]Everyone will scream out to say Hussein belongs to us because he
[70:51]transcends beyond sectarian confines.
[70:53]He transcends beyond differences.
[70:56]Hussein brings universal values for you and I.
[71:01]But it is sad to see that even within the followers of
[71:04]Hussein, within the Muslim Ummah, you find that there are so many
[71:14]differences, so many differences that we don't want to talk to each
[71:17]other.
[71:18]We don't want to resolve our own issues while we celebrate the
[71:22]birth of Imam Alisam.
[71:23]While we sit in the aadari of Imam Hussein, our hearts do
[71:28]not match or do not speak to each other.
[71:34]Again, Allahb in one of his poems says the benefits in this
[71:42]community are common.
[71:42]The losses of this community are common.
[71:45]You get hurt, I am hurt.
[71:50]You lose something, I have lost something.
[71:50]You are happy, I am happy.
[72:00]The prophet is the same.
[72:04]The dean is the same.
[72:04]The im is the same.
[72:14]Allah, the haram is the same.
[72:19]Allah is the same.
[72:19]Quran is the same.
[72:22]Then he poses a question.
[72:27]Everything is one.
[72:29]Why is it that the Muslims are divided?
[72:32]This is for you and I to ponder.
[72:39]Why is it that the Muslims are divided?
[72:49]sectarianism superiority of me being from this community and me being from
[72:58]that community.
[73:04]Are we wasting our time over these kind of things?
[73:09]Then there is a beautiful thing that he says he says.
[73:18]You know sometimes we take pride in where we come from.
[73:22]I a say and so I am a okay baba.
[73:25]So what I am an afrani okay I am a ka.
[73:30]Okay.
[73:31]I am a Pakistani.
[73:33]I am okay.
[73:44]Whatever you are, is there any element of Islam in you?
[73:50]When you come to celebrate the occasion of someone who stood for
[73:55]universal values, for freedom, for justice, for unity, you come to realize
[74:01]within that same community there are problems.
[74:05]And at the same time, this hand rises itself to hit on
[74:08]its chest to say, "Yah Hussein, what are you commemorating?" If there
[74:18]is no element of character growth in you through Hussein, then what
[74:23]did the Azadari do for you?
[74:29]On the day of Ash, it's not part of I just remembered
[74:34]it.
[74:35]On the day of Asham, the people who fought Imam Hussein, the
[74:41]people who came face to face with Imam Alisam, who do you
[74:47]think they were?
[74:47]Were they Christians?
[74:50]Were they Jews?
[74:52]Who were they?
[74:54]They were Muslims.
[74:56]No, they knew he was the grandson of the Holy Prophet.
[75:00]They used to recite Allah they knew Imam Hussein reminded them on
[75:14]the day of you are Muslims you are praying you are fasting
[75:20]you have done you are of Quran I'm reminding you look at
[75:24]me and say who I am I not the son of the
[75:34]daughter of your prophet.
[75:39]He's asking questions to them.
[75:43]Look at me.
[75:47]I says, go back to your souls.
[75:53]Shake it.
[75:50]Do an introspection within you.
[75:57]Is it permissible for you to kill me, the grandson of the
[76:02]holy prophet?
[76:03]Who were these people?
[76:04]They were Muslims.
[76:07]On the day of Ashuram, they prayed salat.
[76:08]What did the ritual of salat do for them?
[76:13]That ritual of salat, an obligatory ritual of salat, what did it
[76:19]do for them?
[76:21]How did it help them?
[76:24]They killed the grandson of the prophet whose kala they were reciting.
[76:27]They were half of Quran.
[76:28]What did Quran do for them?
[76:32]How did Quran help them?
[76:36]That very Quran that they recited, that very salat that they recited.
[76:42]In fact, after the martyrdom of Abu Abdah and Abdullah Alas, after
[76:47]the martyrdom, these people rushed to pray their salat of Assar.
[76:51]What did this namaz do for them?
[76:55]That is why I reiterate my point.
[76:58]When ritual becomes empty, the growth stops.
[77:02]No, it becomes detrimental to my spiritual growth.
[77:05]So when you look at our rituals of the majalis when we
[77:12]come here, we must realize that each one of the majis that
[77:15]you hear from the pulpit no matter who is speaking it is
[77:21]trying to educate bring growth within you and I so that we
[77:23]may celebrate the occasion of theat next year by having implemented what
[77:30]I have learned this year to come and say thank you oh
[77:32]aba Abdullah for allowing me to sit in this of yours.
[77:37]That is what it means.
[77:40]So, Imam Hussein doesn't belong to the Shia community alone.
[77:44]Imam Hussein is a universal personality.
[77:47]Only if he becomes universal, only if we take Imam Alisam to
[77:56]the world and show to the world who Hussein is.
[78:01]Yes, there are many charities in his name.
[78:05]But is it enough when when you look at the community with
[78:15]regard to who I imam Hussein is to the community?
[78:20]If I ask this question to any one of you, I probably
[78:23]anticipate the response when I say to you, who is Hussein to
[78:28]you?
[78:31]He's everything.
[78:32]A poet in Udu says is everything to me.
[78:48]Nothing else.
[78:49]No.
[78:47]The poet goes further Hussein.
[78:53]The wealth of Khadijah, the stroke of Ali, the prostration of Hussein
[78:59]Mali Khadijah Ali Hussein, so far so good.
[79:09]But then he gives a line that leaves behind all these lines.
[79:18]He says, "Somebody told me, I want you to write the history
[79:23]of the entire religion.
[79:32]All I could do was say Hussein.
[79:35]So when I ask you who is Hussein to you, your response
[79:37]will be Hussein is everything to me.
[79:43]Correct?
[79:41]But here only in the room here in the Husseinia when you
[79:48]recite mura it is nothing but Hussein.
[79:50]When you recite noa, it is nothing but Hussein.
[79:55]When you go to the aana, when you go to the Imam
[80:00]Bara, there is nothing but Hussein.
[80:02]Somewhere I am sure there is a name of Imam Hussein here.
[80:05]The black clothes signifies the days of Hussein.
[80:09]Everything is Hussein.
[80:13]Hussein Hussein.
[80:13]Maj Hussein.
[80:16]Mia Hussein.
[80:20]Mamm Hussein here.
[80:17]So this is where I imam Hussein is and for us it
[80:27]is what has kept us alive as a Shia community this is
[80:34]what has kept us alive says mutah means united connected joined together
[80:45]the whole community is held by the door.
[80:58]If the string of breaks, then all these beads will scatter.
[81:12]A fish cannot survive without water.
[81:18]If we separate from the of Hussein then we will die as
[81:24]a community.
[81:25]It has kept us alive.
[81:25]But Hussein is here.
[81:28]When you try to find Imam Hussein in the world of academ
[81:32]you will find major themes of Karbala missing from the academic world.
[81:38]I'm not saying completely missing but I'm saying not enough work has
[81:43]been done in terms of the major themes of carbala in the
[81:45]academia or the world of academia you will find subjects missing from
[81:54]the world of academia intellectual themes on karbalage such as justice such
[81:59]as freedom in the name of Hussein you will find them missing
[82:02]you will see the world or the academic world knows more about
[82:06]the words of Nelson Mandela than they know about the words of
[82:13]Imam Hussein.
[82:11]You will find that they will hail Gandhi because of his revolutionary
[82:18]attitude and characteristics more than they will mention Imam Hussein.
[82:25]In the world of academia, although both Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi
[82:30]both of them have taken inspiration from Imam Hussein, yet he is
[82:36]mentioned less.
[82:36]Mandela is mentioned more.
[82:39]He is mentioned less.
[82:40]Gandhi is mentioned more.
[82:41]Martin Luther King is mentioned more.
[82:43]Hussein is mentioned less.
[82:46]Why?
[82:48]You will find that there is a lack of intellectual themes that
[82:52]have been discussed.
[82:53]Why?
[82:54]Because Hussein has been confined to aas only, to the mosques only,
[83:04]to the Husseinas only, to us only.
[83:05]And this man says, "How will this bed come to the outside
[83:17]world if Hussein remains only within the Azakana and only within the
[83:25]Shia community?
[83:23]If you try to look at media, you will find Imam Hussein
[83:31]being portrayed as a tragic hero.
[83:33]You will find him being portrayed as an emotive personality.
[83:37]You will find the pictures of people doing matam being shown in
[83:43]a newspaper and a caption.
[83:44]These are the followers of the grandson of the holy prophet of
[83:47]Islam.
[83:48]That is what Hussein is to the media.
[83:53]The impact of Karbala was meant to be universal.
[83:58]The life that Hussein gave in Karbala was meant to be or
[84:03]the impact of it was meant to be universal.
[84:06]And therefore, it is imperative for you and I to move our
[84:09]goalposts.
[84:10]Yes, Imam Hussein is our beloved.
[84:14]But we now need to show our beloved to the world in
[84:21]those themes which are universal.
[84:22]None can deny them except a mad person.
[84:26]And so we need to do that.
[84:30]Why is it that the when you look at the the movement
[84:37]of aadari aadari in a simplistic way understood by some naive minded
[84:42]people would be to just hold a majam and that would be
[84:47]considered as aadari.
[84:46]Aadari is a movement.
[84:49]Aadari is not an empty ritual.
[84:52]It is a movement of Hussein for you and I.
[84:56]So the aadar of today, how should he be like?
[85:02]What should he look like?
[85:03]What should be the role of the azadar of today?
[85:08]Should you and I not feel should the Azadar of today not
[85:17]be heading the human's right organizations today in the name of Hussein
[85:25]that Azadari would be a different azadari altogether when you are taking
[85:33]Hussein out of only the confines of the mosque to the world
[85:36]to show that we are people who are protesting the death of
[85:42]he who stood for universal personality who universal principles universal values that
[85:50]you and I follow.
[85:50]So the azadar of today should be at the forefronts of civil
[85:56]rights movement standing for freedom of people standing standing for justice standing
[86:03]for the freedom that Imam Hussein so eloquently spoke about in the
[86:10]last moments of his life.
[86:14]And if I was to tell you the timing I don't have
[86:18]the the moment here but the timing in which he said this
[86:21]there was nobody there was no Abbas no Ali Akbar no Im
[86:28]Hussein Aliat wasam was crying in one area of the Maktal when
[86:31]he heard a voice from somewhere that I want the that the
[86:38]pl the the the tent of Abu Abdah should be plundered.
[86:40]Imam Hussein returned back at that time.
[86:44]Nobody with him.
[86:46]He has already said he came and he stood as a pillar
[86:52]between the and the tent.
[86:53]That is when he said these words or the followers of Abu
[87:02]Sufyan.
[87:01]If you do not have a religion or a value for religion
[87:06]and you don't fear the day of judgment, then what did he
[87:11]say?
[87:14]Be free in this world of yours.
[87:18]Should the aad of today not be the one who promotes those
[87:25]ideas that were left by Abu Abdah Hussein.
[87:35]within the framework of course and the guidance of our scholars.
[87:41]But it is imperative for you and I to take Hussein beyond
[87:45]to build our character through every maj that we listen to because
[87:56]Hussein is only one Hussein.
[87:56]There is no other Hussein.
[87:59]There cannot be another Hussein.
[88:04]He is the of Amy.
[88:04]And you will recite Jared just now.
[88:15]He is the worries of all the ambia standing there to show
[88:21]to the world that this is the message a universal message that
[88:25]is left by Hussein.
[88:27]Chishi in his Persian poetry refers to Imam Hussein as a king.
[88:38]He says sh Hussein Hussein is a king.
[88:39]I I am analyzing this poem.
[88:43]I don't know what was in his mind but I am attempting
[88:46]to make this analysis.
[88:48]I have done it before.
[88:49]Sha asked Hussein.
[88:52]Hussein is a king.
[88:52]And then he probably realized no no no this statement is inadequate.
[88:59]So he says Hussein Hussein is not a king.
[89:05]He's a king of kings.
[89:06]Dean Hust Hussein.
[89:07]Hussein is a religion.
[89:09]And then he realizes probably that this is inadequate for Hussein.
[89:15]So he says Hussein Hussein is the refuge of the dean itself.
[89:28]He accepted to give his head but refused to give his hands
[89:33]in allegiance.
[89:36]Indeed, the foundations of illahill are on the shoulders of Hussein.
[89:43]And therefore, my fellow brothers and sisters, let us take uh our
[89:50]rituals, the rituals that we follow in our lives.
[89:54]Let us take them to be serious and understand that each and
[89:58]every ritual has a deeper meaning and that a ritual is a
[90:02]stepping stone towards realizing the goal that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has
[90:06]kept for us whether it is salat or s or hajj whether
[90:10]it is attending malices whether it is whatever ritual has been prescribed
[90:14]to us there is a meaning it is not an empty ritual
[90:20]and let these rituals give you and I the insight into the
[90:24]essence of why the ritual was introduced and give you and I
[90:30]the growth from within.
[90:32]It is the occasion of the vad of Abu Abdah Hussein.
[90:41]We pray to Allah subhanana wa ta'ala to accept our insignificant effort
[90:46]in the name of Hussein Alisa.
[90:47]We pray to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to make us the servants
[90:50]of Hussein forever.
[90:53]We pray to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for those who tonight are
[90:57]suffering, who are ill, who are in the hospitals, who are fighting
[91:04]between life and death, those who are in difficulties across the globe.
[91:08]Ya Allah Hussein, we ask you to grant them relief from their
[91:15]troubles.
[91:13]We ask you to grant them shifa for all those who are
[91:18]unwell.
[91:19]Ya Allah, we pray to you to hasten the reappearance of the
[91:21]awaited savior and upon his return to give you and I to
[91:34]be amongst his and his awan.
[91:38]We pray to Allah subhanana wa ta'ala during the final moments of
[91:40]our lives that he should keep the influence of shaitan away from
[91:44]us that we die in the love of Muhammad and Ali Muhammad
[91:50]Aliat wasam.
[91:49]May I request you to give fragrance to the atmosphere and to
[91:56]your lips and to your chests and to your breasts by reciting
