There are beliefs amongst other schools of thought which suggest that the ancestors of the Prophet were non-believers and idol-worshipers. However, this is not the case. What is the proof to disregard this claim? Proof 1: Hadiths from the Imams of Ahlulbayt (a). A hadith from Imam Sadeq (a) states that all the direct ancestors of the Prophet (s) were believers in God. Another well-known hadith (found in Sunni books as well, such as Al-Razi’s Tafsir al-Kabir), from the Prophet (s) states, “It was the case that Allah (swt) would continuously move me from the loins of the pure ones and the wombs of the pure ones until I came into this worldly existence. And Allah (swt) protected me from the impurities of the era of ignorance.” How can the Prophet’s direct ancestors be idol-worshippers when God made his lineage pure? How can they be polytheists when in the Quran Allah swt says, “O you who have believed, indeed the polytheists are unclean” (9:28)? The widely accepted hadith of the Prophet (s) which tells us he is moved from the loins of the pure ones surely contradicts this belief, proving that his direct ancestry consisted of believers only. Proof 2: The Qur’an says, “The One Who sees you when you stand, and your movement among those who prostrate.” (26:218-219) In explaining this verse, a hadith from Imam Sadeq (a) says that when Allah (swt) had decreed Muhammad (s) to be from the progeny of Ibrahim (a), Allah made him move among those who would prostrate to Him. This indicates his ancestors were worshippers of God.#Hawza #Seminary #Alhujjah #islam #shia #Qazwini
