[0:10]muhammad brothers and sisters thank you for having me once again for
[0:24]another program with you tonight we weren't able to sit outside um
[0:29]which is a good thing for me because i froze last week
[0:32]um but it was entertaining even though it was cold it was
[0:37]very entertaining so this is michigan though we can never predict the
[0:41]weather um i was asked to speak about a topic that's really
[0:48]intriguing something a topic that um in certain cultures is more prevalent
[0:53]than other cultures and the questions and mysteries behind it remain unanswered
[0:59]to many people and what we're going to try doing this night
[1:04]is try to understand how the quran and the hadith dealt with
[1:09]this topic and get an understanding of how we can better resolve
[1:16]certain problems or approaches that we have in our community and within
[1:20]in our own lives the title of the subject is or the
[1:26]topic for tonight is understanding gym and before beginning with the topic
[1:31]we have to define what the gen is right before discussing anything
[1:34]what they say in logic is that you have to define the
[1:40]terms first if you want to speak about any term you want
[1:41]to speak about freedom you want to speak about rights you want
[1:45]to speak about happiness joy justice any concept any notion you have
[1:52]to define it first before you go into discussing it because if
[1:55]you don't define it you don't say what you mean by that
[2:00]term then you could be speaking about something and the other person
[2:03]who's listening to you or discussing with you could be understanding or
[2:06]speaking about something else so when i say that you know i'm
[2:10]looking for happiness in life my understanding of happiness could be very
[2:14]different from someone else's understanding of happiness so the question is what
[2:20]kind of happiness are you looking for or define happiness and that's
[2:24]what aristotle did as a logician as a philosopher he said that
[2:27]we have to define terms before we discuss anything and it seems
[2:31]to be something self-evident but we don't tend to do it a
[2:33]lot of times a lot of debates occur and the the two
[2:37]people don't understand each other they're talking about different things so beginning
[2:41]with the definition of jin now the word gen is not an
[2:46]english word it's a word that comes from arabic and in arabic
[2:50]the words have roots so you have root words and then from
[2:53]those root words you derive all the other words from it so
[2:58]the root words are usually three letters and the word jin comes
[3:03]from the letters this is how you pronounce them and the root
[3:11]usually has a meaning and that meaning is related to everything that's
[3:15]derived from that root so we have for example a word called
[3:19]al-janan this quran speaks about al-janan it talks about al-jannah it talks
[3:28]about a legitim and the gen these are all derived from the
[3:31]same rule the meaning of the rule is something hidden something concealed
[3:37]something that we cannot perceive or see this is what that's referring
[3:42]to so if you say for example uh janna laid with the
[3:49]night and the verb jannah meaning that the darkness of the night
[3:53]came where everything becomes hidden and concealed and we can't see it
[3:57]anymore so you have that meaning derived from concealment from hidden from
[4:03]something being hidden something that we cannot perceive or see or something
[4:09]that's completely blocked from our not completely but almost completely blocked from
[4:15]our senses and the word is derived from that so when we
[4:19]say jinn or we talk about jinn we're speaking about something that
[4:23]is hidden something that is concealed something that we cannot see maybe
[4:28]or we cannot feel something that's far away from us so that's
[4:33]the definition linguistically now if we come to the word itself in
[4:39]our the jinns are creatures that seem to exist alongside the human
[4:49]beings and for the longest time at least in the eastern world
[4:51]more than the western one these creatures are said to have interacted
[4:56]with human beings now whether that's true or not true we're going
[5:00]to see that in a little bit thank you so sallallahu what
[5:13]i'm going to do tonight is i'm going to bring the quranic
[5:16]verses that speak about jinns and i want to see how the
[5:21]quran presented these creatures to us what does it want us to
[5:24]know what does it tell us about them and how we can
[5:28]build an understanding of these creatures a correct understanding at least and
[5:32]remove certain misconceptions that we have now the quran spoke about jinns
[5:37]in multiple verses i've looked at the verses they're over 16 or
[5:42]17 verses i think it's around 20.
[5:45]it could be between 16 and 20 verses and that's a pretty
[5:49]large number of verses to be speaking about something that we might
[5:52]consider insignificant there are some things that the quran spoke about only
[5:57]one time but for the gen to be mentioned repeatedly over 16
[6:03]times and then on top of that there's a chapter in the
[6:07]quran called the chat religion a whole chapter dedicated to the gen
[6:12]so this is something that we can't dismiss easily we can't say
[6:17]that this thing doesn't exist it's not important it's you know fantasy
[6:20]or whatever it is no this is something that the quran did
[6:22]mention and it did talk about and it repeated to the point
[6:28]where one of its chapters was named after the jinns so what
[6:31]we're going to do is we're going to go through the verses
[6:34]we'll see what the verses talk about how they describe them and
[6:37]then we can open up the floor and have a discussion between
[6:41]each other like like last week so the first verse that we
[6:47]can talk about [Music] and indeed we created man from dried clay
[7:01]man meaning human the human being made of molded mud and the
[7:10]gin we created earlier from scorching fire this is chapter 15 verses
[7:16]26 to 27.
[7:16]and what this verse is talking about is talking about the beginning
[7:20]of creation how humans came into creation and how jinns came into
[7:27]creation that the humans were made out of clay now not that
[7:29]every human being is born out of click no the first human
[7:32]being was made out of this clay whether it's not that it's
[7:38]a mud it could be the composition of the clay and then
[7:41]what happened after that as the humans after the first human formed
[7:45]the next human came through a relationship between two human beings and
[7:49]they gave birth to another human being and then that's how human
[7:52]beings began multiplying now the jinns in this verse god says that
[7:58]they were created before human beings we created earlier so the quran
[8:08]is telling us that the jinns were created before human beings before
[8:11]the first human was made the jinns were already there this is
[8:16]the first indication the first thing that the quran is telling us
[8:19]about these creatures so they were created before us and if the
[8:22]human was made out of clay the jinns were created from scorching
[8:25]fire so they have a different nature we're made up of a
[8:33]physical tangible sort of hard solid uh thing whereas the gins are
[8:37]made out of scorching fire and the fire is not a solid
[8:39]so it's a different nature it's a different reality and that will
[8:45]help us understanding and understanding the verses that are to come another
[8:51]verse allah so this is to this is talking about the same
[9:05]point i was mentioning that god says we began creation of man
[9:10]from clay then he made his seed from a drought of base
[9:13]fluid basically the first creation was from clay and then the rest
[9:17]of the creation and multiplied through relationships between human beings now the
[9:23]jinns also multiply as we're going to see in another verse now
[9:28]if we go to chapter 51 verse 56 god says i did
[9:37]not create jinn and humankind except to worship me so we understand
[9:42]from this verse that just like human beings are to worship god
[9:46]which means they're responsible creatures they have rules they have to follow
[9:52]and they will be taken accountable for following those rules and not
[9:54]following them the jinn also shared that with the human beings so
[9:58]one thing that's shared between the humans and the jinns is that
[10:02]they're both accountable before god they both have to worship god and
[10:06]when you say that someone worships god the the scholars say that
[10:09]in order to be given a responsibility of worshiping there has to
[10:13]be a number of different conditions available in that individual for them
[10:17]to be taken responsible first of all you have to have intellect
[10:21]right you can't ask an insane person or someone who doesn't have
[10:24]a brain to do something and then take them responsible for it
[10:27]so you have to have intellect you have to have understanding and
[10:30]once we know that jinns are asked to worship god we know
[10:33]that they have understanding then the second thing you have to have
[10:37]is you have to have willpower to make decisions a creature without
[10:42]willpower you cannot ask that creature to do something because you don't
[10:45]have the will to do it and you can't ask them not
[10:48]to do something because they don't have the will to not do
[10:52]it so they have intellect they think they understand they comprehend and
[10:56]they have willpower they're able to do things they make decisions i
[11:01]think something is good i mean i have a willpower i want
[11:05]to do that thing so that's the second thing that they have
[11:07]and then we can conclude this from the verse that talks about
[11:09]them worshiping god another verse foreign god says thus we have made
[11:31]for every prophet and enemy satans from among humankind and jinn who
[11:37]inspire each other with flowery discourse in order to deceive had your
[11:43]lord willed they would not have done so so leave them in
[11:47]that which they fabricate in this verse we see that these jinns
[11:52]just like human beings become enemies of the prophets they engage in
[11:58]a battle so basically they're entering the realm of the human beings
[12:03]because the prophets that god sent were human prophets and when god
[12:09]says that there he made for every prophet and enemy satan's from
[12:13]amen among humankind and jinn it means that the jinn interferes sometimes
[12:17]sometimes they get involved as enemies of the prophets just like humans
[12:23]become enemies of the prophet the jinns can also become enemies of
[12:25]the prophets so we understand from this as well that they know
[12:30]about prophecy another verse unto god though he created them and falsely
[12:49]attribute sons and daughters to him without any knowledge glory be to
[12:54]him exalted is he above that which they described so we had
[13:00]people throughout the ages who took jinns and made them into deities
[13:05]now how did they make these jins into deities is it because
[13:09]they interacted with them did they see creatures that are maybe spiritual
[13:13]creatures they're not physical and they thought that this is something that
[13:15]we can worship or we should be worshiping it could be hinting
[13:19]to something like that and if you look at you know a
[13:23]lot of the old nations like you know the aztecs and you
[13:24]know even the ancient egyptians some people try to interpret or you
[13:30]know their hieroglyphics their symbolism as them connecting with other worldly creatures
[13:35]they draw creatures that don't look like human beings and they don't
[13:38]look like anything that we've seen so some people are trying to
[13:42]say that those people had contact had some sort of visions or
[13:46]some sort of relationship with creatures that were not humans and these
[13:49]might be agendas they might be other creatures that are non non-human
[13:55]another verse of jinn and human beings so god is speaking to
[14:20]them in the quran why would god address the jinns in the
[14:23]quran this tells us that the quran was not only revealed for
[14:29]human beings because there are some other people that are addressed in
[14:32]this quran when god says oh company of jinn and human beings
[14:35]did not messengers come unto you from among yourselves recounting unto you
[14:40]my signs and warning you of the meeting with this you're with
[14:43]this uh with this your day so god is saying did i
[14:50]not send prophets to you oh gentle human beings reminding you about
[14:53]this day this is on the day of judgment that you know
[14:57]this day was going to come they will say we bear witness
[15:02]against ourselves so they'll reply the humans and the jinns the life
[15:04]of this world deluded them and they bear witness against themselves that
[15:08]they were disbelievers so we have believing gents and we have disbelievers
[15:13]we have genders that commit sins and gender perform worship and the
[15:19]quran is addressing them here if it didn't care about these creatures
[15:23]why would it talk to them in the quran why would why
[15:27]would gabriel come and tell the prophet say so and so to
[15:30]the jinn so there's some sort of reason why the prophet was
[15:35]asked to speak to them in another verse i'm i'm going to
[15:42]cut down on the arabic because it might take too long reciting
[15:44]arabic and english i'll only reset the short ones the long runs
[15:48]will only do the english god says and remember when we made
[15:50]a group of jinn inclined unto you listening to the quran when
[15:55]in its presence they said here can then when it came to
[16:00]an end they went back to their people as warners so god
[16:04]is telling the prophet that when you were reciting the quran or
[16:08]when the quran was recited these jinns were listening to the quran
[16:11]and when they heard it they believed in it and then they
[16:16]went back to their people as warners they went back to other
[16:20]jinns and they told them that we heard so and so from
[16:23]a prophet called the quran or we heard so and so from
[16:25]an individual called muhammad and he was saying so and so so
[16:29]they were listening they were hearing they were addressed by the quran
[16:33]as well and they were they heard what the quran was saying
[16:36]and they went back and they told their people another verse god
[16:42]says on this is chapter 6 verse 128 on the day when
[16:46]he shall gather them all together he god shall say o company
[16:50]of zhen many among humankind have you claimed and their friends among
[16:56]humankind will say oh lord we have profited from each other but
[16:59]now we have reached our term which you have appointed for us
[17:04]so god is talking to the jinn again he's addressing them he's
[17:08]telling them that you have misguided some of the human beings you
[17:12]know the previous verses one of them says that the satans come
[17:17]from human beings and come from jinns as well so you have
[17:19]a jinn who can be shaytan and you have a human being
[17:22]who can be checked on as well so this is god here
[17:24]speaking to the gentility of judgment telling them he misguided so many
[17:29]of the human beings another verse talks about them going into hellfire
[17:34]for doing wrong chapter 7 verse 38 enter he will say god
[17:39]will say enter the fire among communities of jinn and humans that
[17:42]have passed away before you he's telling the people that are coming
[17:45]into hell after those who have been put already that come and
[17:49]join these jinns and humans that have been important to help before
[17:54]you and then there's a diagonal that goes on god then says
[17:59]in chapter 32 verse 13 he says i shall i shall surely
[18:04]fill hell with jinn and humans all together again punishment is the
[18:08]sort of punishment for both jinns and humans why does god keep
[18:13]repeating this why does he keep saying jinns and humans if he's
[18:16]speaking to human beings why does he keep saying and jinns as
[18:19]well always combining them a few things we can think about so
[18:26]humans were challenged to bring a quran like the one that the
[18:30]prophet came with and that was the challenge that god made to
[18:34]prove the prophecy of the prophet nobody can bring a book like
[18:38]this well this test was not only made for the human beings
[18:40]god in the quran in chapter 7 verse 88 says say he
[18:45]tells the prophet say surely in men if mankind and jinn banded
[18:48]together to bring the like of this quran they would not bring
[18:53]the like thereof even if they supported one another if the jinns
[18:57]and the humans together combined all their efforts to come up with
[19:01]the quran like this they will be able to so it's a
[19:04]challenge not only for human beings but a challenge for the jinns
[19:07]as well an interesting verse right now that we're coming to chapter
[19:15]27 verse 17 god says and gathered for solomon prophet sulaiman solomon
[19:21]were his hosts of jinn and human and birds and they were
[19:25]marshalled in ordered ranks god says that he gathered for solomon you
[19:36]know he had a kingdom and he had servants and he had
[19:39]all the creatures obeyed him from the animal kingdom from the human
[19:44]kingdom and from the jin kingdom so god is saying here prophet
[19:47]sallam had every one of these creatures working for him the humans
[19:52]were assisting him the animals the birds and the jinns were part
[19:58]of his kingdom and part of his servants so he had communication
[20:03]with them they were involved in completing certain tasks in that kingdom
[20:06]that the humans couldn't do and the animals couldn't do in another
[20:12]verse god says and on to solomon the wind whose morning course
[20:15]was a month and whose evening course was a month and we
[20:19]caused a fount of molten copper to flow for him and of
[20:24]the jinn some worked before him by the leave of his lord
[20:27]by saying some of the jinn worked for sulaiman al-islam by the
[20:32]will of god and those of them that deviated from our command
[20:35]we would cause them to taste the punishment of the blades so
[20:39]if the prophet commanded the jinn to do something that jinn had
[20:43]to obey otherwise they would be punished they would be committing ascent
[20:45]going against the prophet so and all these animals working for him
[20:51]all these human beings obeying him and all these jinns doing things
[20:56]so what was what were the jins doing what was their jobs
[20:58]what were their tests what could they do that humans can't do
[21:02]what could they do the animals can't do pretty interesting question i
[21:06]think now in another verse god tells us a little bit of
[21:10]their special powers a little bit of their ability and strength in
[21:15]chapter 27 verse 39 god says and and is a type of
[21:23]jinn and there's no equivalent in english so we're going to keep
[21:25]it as afraid just like we have the word kept as it
[21:30]is he said i will bring it to thee bring a whole
[21:34]kingdom to thee before you rise from your place truly i have
[21:38]the strength for it and i am trustworthy long story there was
[21:42]a challenge and a jinn was able to transfer a whole kingdom
[21:47]from one part of the world to another part of the world
[21:51]before you can rise from your place so before you stand up
[21:56]that whole kingdom would have been moved from one location to another
[22:01]that's how much power they had that's the kind of strength that
[22:05]they had so how do they have that power how do they
[22:07]have the strength philosophers for the most part islamic philosophers try to
[22:13]explain that by discussing their nature as fire as opposed to clay
[22:17]a human being who's made from clay which is tangible which is
[22:20]a substance which is a solid the human being needs to walk
[22:24]from one place to another right you know i have to move
[22:28]my leg because we have weight we have you know the body
[22:33]that we're living in doesn't allow us to fly from one place
[22:36]to another but jen's being from another material from another substance like
[22:41]a fire substance like a spiritual substance they're able to transport from
[22:45]one place to another without having to be limited by their legs
[22:51]and their physical limitations another verse said that some of the genes
[22:55]were worshipped um and another verse says that some people have made
[23:04]a kinship between god and the jinn so that god was related
[23:12]to the jinn or the jinns were related to god either that
[23:16]they were his sons or daughters or some sort of kinship so
[23:19]some people believed that in the past that's what the quran is
[23:25]telling us um when god talks about the maidens in heaven he
[23:32]describes them by saying therein are maidens of modest gays whom neither
[23:37]man or jinn has ever touched so no human has touched those
[23:43]jinns so basically they are pure in heaven which tells us that
[23:47]there's a type of relationship that the jinns have with one another
[23:50]and that's how they multiply in number iblis the shaytan was describing
[23:58]the quran to be as one of the gents so he was
[24:01]part of the jinn creatures in the quran god says very clearly
[24:07]that he was of the jinn and he deviated deviated from the
[24:11]commandment of his lord chapter 8 verse 50.
[24:13]so if this was part of the one of the jinn satan's
[24:17]or the head of the jin sayings and then i'm gonna conclude
[24:23]with the chapter which talks about the jinns and i'm gonna try
[24:27]not to recite the whole thing but it's quite interesting the chapter
[24:30]about genesis chapter 72 in the quran god begins by saying and
[24:35]he told the prophet to say to people say he commanded him
[24:40]it was revealed unto me that a group of jinn listened and
[24:45]said truly we heard a wondrous quran the jinns were listening to
[24:51]the quran and they thought it was something wonderful so god told
[24:55]the prophet tell the people that the jinns were listening and when
[24:58]they heard the quran he said what a wonderful quran truly we
[25:03]have heard a wondrous quran that guides to sound judgment so we
[25:07]believe in it and will ascribe none as a partner unto our
[25:13]lord so these jinns believed in the quran they believed in tawhid
[25:15]they believed in the prophecy of the prophet and they followed him
[25:21]and legend then began to describe certain teachings that the quran came
[25:25]with for example they say that we will not ascribe a partner
[25:30]unto our lord and he exalted me the majesty of our lord
[25:35]has neither consort consort or nor child that god has no child
[25:38]so they're believing in the islamic religion basically not having a child
[25:42]for god so that makes us understand that jinns could be christians
[25:44]they could be jews they could be hindus they could be muslims
[25:46]they could be any religion it could be atheists as well many
[25:50]different types just like humans have different religions in phase it seems
[25:54]like religion and creed is shared between jinns and humans so i
[25:59]wanted to conclude with this verse and um hopefully we have an
[26:05]overview of how the quran presented these creatures to us and maybe
[26:09]through the discussion we can begin going into maybe some more detail
[26:12]now i have to say that we don't have much information on
[26:18]them now god gave us some information he wants us to know
[26:21]that they exist and he wants us to know that they're there
[26:25]but it seems like he doesn't want us to become too preoccupied
[26:28]with him this is something like in one of the hadiths we
[26:30]have the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam he was [Music] i'm going to
[26:35]paraphrase that he was told that a certain jinn did something and
[26:38]the prophet said no that jin doesn't exist and our scholars try
[26:45]to interpret that by saying that a lot of the arabs at
[26:47]least during that time wanted to blame a lot of things on
[26:51]the gym every time there was a problem every time it was
[26:54]a difficulty every time they went through some sort of hardship they
[26:57]wanted to say this is the jinsbo and the prophet was trying
[27:01]to push away that superstition he wanted to say that they're there
[27:03]but how how far can they deal with human beings how far
[27:10]do they interfere that's where he wanted to limit that they could
[27:15]interfere but not to the degree that most people think they could
[27:18]the women or the believers in general are protected from them so
[27:21]i'm going to leave that on for um and the prophet gave
[27:26]some prescriptions he said to recite certain things to do certain things
[27:30]to protect us from these creatures if they want to do anything
[27:32]so we'll open the floor for that inshallah all right so if
[27:51]you have anything you want to add you want to say a
[27:54]story an encounter with a genie you can say it you have
[27:57]an encounter no no i was going to just suggest that we
[28:02]all get ouija boards tonight after the lecture we can have a
[28:06]little experiment to see if it works or not sorry go ahead
[28:08]um [Music] also have i guess there's a controversial idea within my
[28:35]culture most of you not understand that agent can possess or can
[28:39]do so and so to create you to go far away from
[28:42]the snap or where you i was also told by someone that
[28:56]the people closest to religion and closest to god will okay well
[29:04]thank you for that all right so there were three questions or
[29:07]three right first of all you were speaking about um just being
[29:12]completely evil no good jins that's how you were told from when
[29:15]you were younger and what you understood of them okay so let's
[29:18]start with that um so the quran is very clear that they're
[29:23]not like that and yes that's true um culturally there's a lot
[29:28]of negativity associated with the gems they're always you know casted as
[29:32]evil creatures um they come and if you look at you know
[29:35]um the stories that you hear usually from other people it's usually
[29:40]a bad story a negative one an evil one so the jinns
[29:42]you know destroyed my life they did this they're harming me they're
[29:46]harming but they never talk about any good job or anything good
[29:49]any good thing that the jinn did for example serving the prophet
[29:53]saw a man they were helping him they were assisting him and
[29:55]obviously if they did that tonight they must have done that to
[30:00]other prophets as well and they could be doing that to certain
[30:02]believers as well without us knowing so sometimes maybe a jinn and
[30:07]i'm just giving a possibility here i'm i don't have any concrete
[30:10]evidence for this but we can you know suppose that if a
[30:14]believer is going to be harmed and that jen is able to
[30:17]see that harm he might protect him or she might protect him
[30:20]so that's possible so the gents could go either way either they
[30:25]could harm or they could be you know uh good creatures um
[30:27]that's the first part the second part was related to um is
[30:32]uh can you remind me possession okay um so can we be
[30:39]possessed by gents is that possible would we like to be possessed
[30:45]violence that's another question some people would probably want to be possessed
[30:47]no i mean some people get involved with things that try to
[30:52]bring that into themselves a lot of our scholars say that it's
[30:57]not possible and the reason why i say it's not possible possession
[31:00]itself is not possible is because we're made of two different natures
[31:04]there cannot be a possibility for something made out of a different
[31:10]substance to go into the substance of the human being so they
[31:13]say if there's something that will affect another or possess something else
[31:16]to go into something else they have to have a common substance
[31:19]so for example when i eat the reason why i can eat
[31:23]is because the food and my body have a shared substance together
[31:26]but a gin doesn't have that agent is made out of a
[31:32]fiery nature it's ethereal it's not tangible it's not it's not a
[31:38]substance so it cannot enter a human body it's not possible for
[31:41]it now what can it do well the human being has a
[31:44]spirit as a soul the soul is something that the gin might
[31:47]be able to interact with because they share that you know ethereal
[31:53]body is he able to possess the soul no is he able
[31:55]to try to influence the soul try to whisper to that soul
[32:00]try to misguide that soul that's possible yeah and you know at
[32:02]least being one of the jinn all he says is that i
[32:07]whisper to people so if we want to see how they function
[32:08]we can look at how we believe functions in the quran because
[32:12]he's a gym what does he do does he force anyone to
[32:15]do anything he cannot do that and the quran is clear about
[32:17]that is he able to try to influence you negatively and try
[32:21]to push you to do something uh that's that's possible yeah but
[32:24]possession for the most of our scholars that i've read say that
[32:29]it's not possible in the sense which we think that the human
[32:32]the gin goes into our body and we become like you know
[32:38]uh you know taken over by a gin and we become crazy
[32:40]our voice changes and then all the other stuff that happened and
[32:43]then there was a third part you're more influenced by or you
[32:50]interact more with them so the idea is that the more let's
[32:57]say the more detached you become from your physical body the more
[32:59]spiritual you become would you become more interactive with the spiritual world
[33:07]and be able to see things maybe it's a possibility yeah it's
[33:10]possible but how do you know that's happening um a lot of
[33:15]the times and i've said this last week our imagination could become
[33:18]mixed with reality so sometimes we imagine something we imagine that we've
[33:23]you know we've gone out of our bodies we're experiencing something spiritual
[33:27]we're seeing stuff with visions and stuff like that but a lot
[33:31]of the time it's our imagination because as human beings we have
[33:34]different types of faculties of perception one of our perception is through
[33:38]imagination another one is fruit intellectual uh perception to our intellect and
[33:44]the intellect is not just the mind it's also connected to the
[33:50]spirit that's the highest level of perception that we have with our
[33:53]intellect we're able to perceive let's say you know the prophet was
[33:58]able to see angels he was able to see spiritual creatures because
[34:01]he reached a very high level with his intellect his perception was
[34:06]able to see that most of us don't reach that level so
[34:10]most of what we can see can only occur with our physical
[34:15]eyes not with our spiritual eyes so a lot of the times
[34:19]what we think is a spiritual thing that we're seeing or we're
[34:21]interacting with most of the time it's not that it's an imagination
[34:25]that we have only people who reach a very very high level
[34:28]of piety and they're very rare that you know they're able to
[34:32]connect with maybe other creatures or deal with them and things of
[34:35]that sort and most of this is just you know probability with
[34:38]possibilities that we're talking about you're physical welcome to move from place
[34:51]to another the successor of prophet here and also another one from
[35:29]medina [Music] his father was the third day of the tragedy did
[35:56]they use the gene for this superpower because they have physical bonds
[36:00]so they cannot move with their physical this this thing within the
[36:06]blink of an eye so did they use the gins to do
[36:10]those okay um well what we can do is we can try
[36:16]to analyze and try to understand we don't we can't reach a
[36:18]certain answer about those but we can try to reach an answer
[36:21]it's not 100 correct maybe it could be correct it could be
[36:27]wrong but from what we understand i mean that verse about the
[36:29]jinn who moved or claimed that he could move the kingdom and
[36:32]then also then bethel moved it um within a blink of an
[36:38]eye now what the jinn was saying he couldn't do wasn't a
[36:39]blink of an eye the jinn said before you stand up from
[36:42]your place before you stand up i have moved it now there's
[36:48]something that tells us that there is power beyond the power of
[36:53]legit if the jin needed that much time to move the kingdom
[36:56]there's another power that could move that kingdom within the blink of
[37:01]an eye faster so that tells us that he didn't use jinns
[37:06]to move them he used some sort of divine power divine assistance
[37:09]he altered something in existence in order to have moved that same
[37:14]thing goes for imam salam you know crossing distances what the mystics
[37:20]call uh [Music] when the ground folds beneath you now this is
[37:28]all you know language of the mystics use they reach a certain
[37:32]level of you know spiritual abilities again this is we're not speaking
[37:35]here with certainty about anything we're just saying what these scholars have
[37:40]said and it could be true it could be not true but
[37:43]for example the author of almighty he was asked about tailor he
[37:48]was asked is it is it that how does a person you
[37:52]know teleportation in another sense humans have always wanted to teleport mystics
[37:56]say that it's possible that is something that you can do if
[38:00]you strengthen yourself to a certain degree then you're able to transport
[38:04]with your soul and not with your physical body now how does
[38:10]that happen it was asked is it that the body you know
[38:13]becomes non-existent and existent and non-existent and existent and so on and
[38:17]so forth so quickly that you teleport or does the ground physically
[38:22]become folded under your feet because it's like the ground becomes folded
[38:27]under you you cross far distances in a very short period of
[38:32]time now the imams were you know it was said that they
[38:36]had this ability that they were able to move from one place
[38:38]to another with that they didn't use it much only when they
[38:42]had to um but no it doesn't seem like that has anything
[38:44]to do with jinns it was more of a spiritual capability that
[38:49]the human being has not directly involving the engine itself to become
[39:01]to that level that you can move one place to another within
[39:04]existing physics related if you have that power it doesn't necessarily mean
[39:25]you're close to god you could be someone who worked on your
[39:27]spirit your spiritual side there's spiritual exercises that you can do that
[39:31]strengthen your spirit and strengthen your you know if you meditate that's
[39:34]one of the exercises you can strengthen your you know uh mental
[39:39]capabilities and your spiritual capabilities through meditating you can do it without
[39:44]believing in god just like you can work out in the gym
[39:46]build muscles or exercise or go you know to the gymnastics strengthen
[39:51]your body even if you're an atheist you can also strengthen your
[39:54]soul even if you're an atheist it doesn't have anything to do
[39:57]with believing in god now what a movement what a muslim should
[40:04]do is whatever that muslim does whether it's spiritual exercises or physical
[40:06]exercises the objective should be to get nearer to allah because that's
[40:13]what would make that action worth anything otherwise if you go to
[40:18]the gym for example you just work out or you only exercise
[40:22]without involving god in your movement then you'll the only reward and
[40:26]benefit you're gonna get from that is whatever you get from it
[40:29]so let's say you work out you build muscles that's the benefit
[40:32]you get but if you involve god in it then that will
[40:36]make you spiritually progress towards god it will get you closer to
[40:40]him similarly spiritual exercises are the same thing you could pray but
[40:43]your prayer could be pushing you away from god if you're doing
[40:47]that prayer because you want to show up in front of people
[40:49]so spiritual exercises such as prayer meditating doing a lot of things
[40:54]they can strengthen that soul but they don't necessarily move you towards
[40:58]god unless your intention behind them is a pure intention go ahead
[41:08]so black magic i've heard that black magic is the use of
[41:12]the knowledge of using the gin to get what you want does
[41:15]black magic have anything to do with gins or is that a
[41:17]separate discipline well you know when it comes to you know gems
[41:25]and magic and whether magic truly exists or does doesn't exist there's
[41:28]a lot of different opinions on this matter you know it's not
[41:32]a resolved issue some people say that it does exist some people
[41:37]try to magnify it and a lot of other scholars say that
[41:42]you know they try to diminish this effect and you know they're
[41:46]trying to say that um blackmagic is more of a psychological effect
[41:49]on the person than it is let's say an existential effect now
[41:54]does it involve gins you know to separate well the shaytan always
[41:59]gets involved in relationships right the shaytan for example if you have
[42:02]a dispute with your with your wife or a wife has a
[42:07]visit with your husband and you know anger comes in the shaytan
[42:10]could come and whisper to that individual you know increase your anger
[42:14]you know say this or say that it won't force the person
[42:19]but that whisper is there now that kind of interference is there
[42:22]and that could cause for example separation between individuals points between friends
[42:27]that kind of whispering doesn't exist now you want to call it
[42:31]magic or non-magic that's you know something i think that we don't
[42:35]really have any concrete evidence telling us what this is i mean
[42:40]i've read scholars who completely deny the existence of any type of
[42:44]magic and i've read some that say no there is some you
[42:46]know that people could do if you go to africa for example
[42:50]i have a lot of african friends in in iran they were
[42:54]studying and they are really into that stuff you know the stories
[42:57]that they say i haven't seen any of them but they say
[43:01]crazy stories are they real i have no idea i've never seen
[43:04]them myself but there are people you know on both sides thank
[43:10]you were mentioning the incident in the quran between solomon the athlete
[43:15]from the gym right so i've heard that the mainstream interpretation is
[43:19]that the agenda he wanted to bring a throne in front of
[43:24]solomon is there another information that he if you want to call
[43:29]it throne or kingdom it's basically exchange entertainable yeah in that sense
[43:34]yeah um but what's interesting is that i've i've seen one scholar
[43:38]now again all of this is just possibilities you know but it's
[43:41]kind of interesting he he said that he was suggesting that the
[43:46]pyramid is an angel for example revealed by gent that was his
[43:51]suggestion and because you know nobody knows how they were built until
[43:53]now as human beings we still don't know how the pyramids of
[43:58]egypt were built he was suggesting that the ancient egyptians had contact
[44:02]the pharaohs they had contact with other creatures maybe legend and they
[44:06]were able to lift those you know huge huge uh what are
[44:11]they called the uh the blocks yeah um and put them on
[44:14]the pyramid now we can add that as a possibility we're not
[44:18]gonna say this is what happened because we already have like more
[44:21]than 10 theories about how the pyramids were built we can just
[44:25]add that one it's an interesting one it's possible god knows yeah
[44:50]the one who brought it he was a human being and he
[44:53]brought it in less than a blink of an eye legend claimed
[44:58]he would do it in the time it would take a person
[45:03]to stand up that's true yeah so it wasn't him that brought
[45:05]it but he was capable of doing it yeah so he was
[45:09]able to do it but there was a challenge and the human
[45:13]was able to bring it faster than the gen which tells us
[45:16]that humans are capable of reaching higher levels in terms of their
[45:21]strength than jinsar so it shouldn't be hard to believe that yeah
[46:21]i think that's a fair analogy i think it is i mean
[46:26]if human beings we have a spirit inside of us we have
[46:30]a soul so it's not a material and injens for example they
[46:33]say if you want to call them the moment you call their
[46:35]name they know they're cold wherever they are in the world because
[46:38]they don't hear through the physical ears another limitation that we have
[46:42]as human beings having this body is that if you want to
[46:46]hear something we have to hear it through the physical ear now
[46:49]when you communicate with non-physical beings like non-human beings they're able to
[46:57]know you're communicating with them wherever they are because they don't need
[47:01]sound waves as soon as you because they you know when you
[47:06]feel something when you say you want to call someone it's not
[47:08]only a sound that's coming out there's a certain sensation inside of
[47:13]you that's coming out with that sound there's a feeling when i
[47:17]call somebody it's not just i'm making a sound inside of me
[47:19]i want to call that person that sensation kind of gives a
[47:25]message the spirit demands that thing and because the spirit is in
[47:30]that non-physical world and the jinns are the non-physical world the gender
[47:33]able to perceive that so when you feel you're calling one of
[47:36]them they immediately know no matter where they are and similarly you
[47:41]know a lot of people you know this happens to us and
[47:44]i'm sure it happened to every single person in this room sometimes
[47:47]you think about someone and you call them and they say i
[47:51]was just about to call you or i was just thinking of
[47:54]you right now it happened so many times and our explanation is
[47:57]that because you know we can communicate spiritually not just physically if
[48:03]you feel something strong enough you're able to send that message or
[48:07]that sensation to another individual and communicate with them so gins have
[48:11]that kind of perception as well so yes if human beings advance
[48:16]and they're able to spiritually progress then they would have that ability
[48:20]to move around or perceive things with their with results within the
[48:27]last year they connect with each other they have and sometimes you
[48:46]have a stronger spiritual relationship with an individual than another one so
[48:50]the more intense that relationship is or the more intense the feeling
[48:54]of wanting to know that person or talk to that person or
[48:57]communicate with that person is the stronger they're able to perceive it
[49:01]that's very interesting
