[6:50]khumid with that being said i would be honored to welcome our
[6:54]beloved scholar samahat sayyid salih khazwini after allah salat allah ala muhammad
[6:59]wa'alee muhammad just a second it's fine respected brothers and sisters i
[9:32]begin by congratulating you all on the auspicious birth of our holy
[9:37]prophet and his grandson imam jafar saddiq alaihi muslim these two great
[9:49]individuals who impacted not only the muslims but had a great impact
[9:57]on life as we know it today both were born on the
[10:02]seventeenth of rabi al awal rasulullah was born in the year of
[10:10]the elephant forty years before his before he was commissioned as a
[10:16]prophet and rasulullah and imam jafar saddiq was born in the year
[10:24]eighty or '83 after the hijra of rasulullah but on the same
[10:30]day the same day of the birth of rasulullah inshaallah we will
[10:37]be talking about the prophet on sunday and tonight inshallah we will
[10:43]dedicate it to learning about imam jafar saddiq alaihi salam our great
[10:48]imam the sixth imam of al bayt who we the followers of
[10:55]the ahlul bayt we call ourselves jafari now we have 12 imams
[11:02]but we call ourselves jafari because of the great contributions and the
[11:08]great influence of imam jafar saddiq on our faith on our teachings
[11:16]on our religion and we believe that imam sadiq alaihi salam his
[11:22]contributions and his influence was not only upon the shia although we
[11:30]the shia we call ourselves jafari but the contributions of imam saddiq
[11:35]were upon all the muslims we know right now in the sunni
[11:41]school of thought there are four madahib four sects al shafi'i wal
[11:47]maliki wal hanbali wal hanbali four sects these sects they were influenced
[11:54]by imam jafar saddiq alaihi salam ahmed ibn abu hanifa abu hanifa
[12:02]the leader of the hanafi school of thought he was a student
[12:05]of imam jafar saddiq and he studied for two years under imam
[12:10]jafar saddiq and he says if it was not for the two
[12:17]years that i studied under jafar saddiq i would have perished and
[12:22]same with imam malik malik ibn anas and these verses of poetry
[12:29]that i recited in the beginning you allah these go to imam
[12:34]shafir excuse me imam malik was also a student of imam saddiq
[12:41]and both of them abu hanifa and imam malik they were teachers
[12:47]of imam shafi'i and ahmad ibn hambal who came later and al
[12:52]shafi'i he says this poem yeah yeah this poem that i recited
[13:00]o family of rasulullah your love loving the al bayt it's not
[13:09]something that only the shiites do this is a farth this is
[13:12]a wajib obligatory something obligation from god it's in the quran what
[13:19]does allah say in the quran you have to love the al
[13:26]bayt if you don't say salawat upon the prophet and the al
[13:39]bayt in your salah in the salah al wajibah the obligatory salah
[13:44]then your salah is not accepted today all muslims all muslims when
[13:49]they say when they say salawat when they say their prayer they
[13:54]have to say salawat upon rasulullah and they albaith salaam muhammad wa
[13:59]alaihi muhammad imam jafar al sadiq alaihi salaam his contributions were so
[14:11]great that sitting and talking for half an hour is not enough
[14:16]to talk about imam jafar al saddiq alaihi salam we i had
[14:22]a course which was over 20 over 20 sessions each session fifty
[14:28]minutes long we talked about imam jafar and that is not enough
[14:32]that is not enough to talk about imam jafar imam saddiq his
[14:38]impact and contributions were so great upon sciences modern sciences today the
[14:47]father of modern day chemistry is a man by the name of
[14:50]jabir ibn hayyan jabir ibn hayyan he was the student of imam
[14:56]jafar saddiq alaihi salam he begins writing a book on chemistry and
[15:01]he says in the beginning i heard from my master and then
[15:09]he begins talking about chemistry these are the imams of the ahlul
[15:13]bayt the imam the imam was great in every aspect of his
[15:19]life and this is why my dear brothers and sisters we have
[15:22]a duty to tell the world who the imams are we have
[15:25]a duty to tell the world who rasulullah was if we don't
[15:29]tell them then it's going to be on us we have to
[15:33]tell them imam imam he tells one of his companions he tells
[15:38]them may the mercy of allah be upon the person who revives
[15:50]our matters so the companion he says and how do we revive
[15:56]your matters so he says if people knew our words then they
[16:12]will follow us now it's on us my dear brothers and sisters
[16:15]we have to tell the world who the al baits were if
[16:18]i don't know any hadith of the al baits if i don't
[16:21]have a single hadith from rasulullah or the imams of the al
[16:25]baits memorized then it's on me every single one of us we
[16:30]have to make a life lesson a life goal to memorize several
[16:34]of the hadith of rasulullah and the al bayt this is why
[16:38]some of the scholars they write the books 40 hadith 40 hadith
[16:43]try to memorize your whole life try to memorize and practice 40
[16:48]hadith if you practice one hadith i've repeated this before one hadith
[16:59]that you memorize from a truthful imam and imam saddiq he is
[17:06]a saddiq this is better than the dunya and all that it
[17:11]has now my dear brothers and sisters one question that people ask
[17:16]why are we jafari why are we not for example kavami well
[17:21]why are we not radawi why are we not hadi now of
[17:27]course these are all our imams we take our teachings from all
[17:31]the imams however imam jafar saddiq his impact and his contribution on
[17:40]us is so great why of course imam al hussein was also
[17:46]knowledgeable imam rada was knowledgeable imam al hadi imam jad they're all
[17:51]one level of knowledge however the circumstances of the time allowed imam
[17:57]jaqvar asad alaihi salam to educate people more first of all imam
[18:02]saddiq lives lived the longest out of all the imams imam saddiq
[18:08]lived if he was born either on the '80 or the '83
[18:13]meaning he lived for either sixty five or sixty seven years so
[18:18]this is the longest living imam other than imam al mahdi al
[18:22]muttabar all the other imams they did not make it to their
[18:26]sixties they were killed or they they were killed poisoned or killed
[18:31]in their fifties in their forties in their thirties in their twenties
[18:35]imam al jawad so imam saddiq he lived the longest and this
[18:41]is one of the most important reasons another very important reason is
[18:46]that imam jafar saddiq he lived in a time where one government
[18:53]was falling and another government was rising bani umayyah bani umayyah they
[19:00]ruled from the year '40 after hijra with muawiyah coming to power
[19:06]after the martyrdom of amir al mu'mineen all the way until the
[19:10]year 01/1932 they ruled until the year 01/1932 the collapse of the
[19:19]umayyad empire took place during the life of imam saddiq there were
[19:24]many revolts many revolutions against the umayyads and their government fell and
[19:30]another government rose and that was the abbasi government so during the
[19:35]time of the fall of the umayyad empire there was a power
[19:40]vacuum meaning that they did not have control during the time of
[19:46]imam zain al abideen during the time of imam al hussain during
[19:49]the time of the other imams the imams didn't have the rights
[19:54]didn't have the permission and the freedom to go out and speak
[19:57]because the authorities were strong but because the government was falling so
[20:02]now you see that the imam he has the freedom to go
[20:07]in the masjid of rasulullah and he speaks he delivers a sermon
[20:13]and similarly banil abbas they rise to power the abbasi government they
[20:18]rise to power the first few years they rose to power and
[20:23]their slogan their shu'ar was muhammad we want the family of rasulullah
[20:29]to be pleased with us so they were giving some relative freedom
[20:35]to imam saddiq of course later on that freedom was lifted and
[20:41]imam sadiq alaihi salam they they became worse to the ahlul bayt
[20:45]than bani ummaya bani al abbas they were relatives of the imams
[20:51]but they became worse and they started killing them al mansurah he
[20:54]kills imam al saddiq and then harun poisons imam and imprisons imam
[20:59]al qadam and then all the imams and they become just as
[21:01]bad as bani umayyah so imam saddiq during those years he had
[21:10]relative freedom to teach people and he would sit in the masjid
[21:15]of rasulullah or sometimes he would go to kufa sometimes he would
[21:20]sit and thousands of students they would travel from all over the
[21:25]muslim world to come and seek knowledge from imam jafar saddai thousands
[21:31]they would come just like right now thousands of people they go
[21:34]to a university they go to seek knowledge people would come and
[21:39]they would have hours on hours of lessons with imam saddiq and
[21:43]by the way these classes were started with imam al baqar and
[21:48]the madras of the school of ahlul bayt but during the time
[21:51]of imam saddiq it was at its peak one of the narrators
[21:55]he says i went to kufa i went to masjid al kufa
[21:59]i saw 4,000 men they're sitting in the masjid of kufa and
[22:05]they're sitting in halakat they're sitting in circles and i pass by
[22:09]each circle and i hear them saying and then they say the
[22:14]hadith i heard my master and they say the hadith that they
[22:19]learned from imam asadak alaihi salam and here imam sadiq alaihi salam
[22:27]he had several top students right now how do we pray the
[22:31]way we pray how do we fast the way that we fast
[22:34]how do we do the way that we do of it we
[22:38]have learned it from imam sadiq alaihi salam one of the narrators
[22:42]by the name of zurara ibn aiyun zurara ibn aiyun he narrates
[22:47]over 30,000 he memorized over 30,000 hadith from imam sadiq and he
[22:53]would write them down of course another person aban ibn taghlub hariz
[22:58]ibn abdullah jabir ibn yazid al jafi muhammad ibn muslim he narrates
[23:05]over 16,000 hadith from imam jafar al saddiq alaihi salam and these
[23:10]students they weren't just people who just come to the lecture and
[23:14]they listen no they were they were experts in their field imam
[23:19]saddiq he he would divide his students into experts in a particular
[23:24]subject so you have some students that were top in fiqh in
[23:30]matters of jurisprudence like zurara zurara he asked imam saddiq he tells
[23:35]him why do we when we do wudhu we wipe part of
[23:38]our head we don't wipe the whole head right now our sunni
[23:41]brothers and sisters when they do wudhu what do they do the
[23:45]whole head from the ear back the the whole head they get
[23:48]it what he tells him why do we wipe parts of the
[23:52]head not the whole head imam imam saddiq tells him because of
[23:57]the the the the letter in the and wipe ayah that it
[24:19]doesn't say it says it's like i tell someone wipe or wipe
[24:27]wipe the wall or wipe on the wall there's a difference so
[24:32]here imam saddiq he says we wipe part of the head because
[24:35]of this in the quran so imam saddiq did not only give
[24:38]people the hukram this is halal this is haram this is makrud
[24:41]this is mustaam he would show them in the quran he would
[24:44]explain to them why and this is how he taught this is
[24:49]how he raised a generation of scholars and today our they don't
[24:55]come and derive rules on their own they come and they see
[24:58]okay this hadith that means this is how we have to do
[25:00]wudu this is how we have to wipe this is how we
[25:03]have to pray this is how we have to fast all of
[25:06]these rulings we take them from the narrations of imam jafar saddiq
[25:11]he had another group of students these students were not focused on
[25:15]fiqh these students were focused on aqa'id ideology the shi'a sunni the
[25:21]belief in god these are very important matters for example one of
[25:26]his top students was hisham ibn al hakam hisham ibn al hakam
[25:31]he was a young young youth but imam saddiq he trained him
[25:35]hisham ibn al hakam he would travel the muslim world and he
[25:39]would debate the top scholars as soon as they find out he
[25:43]is hashan ibn hakim they would be afraid to debate him why
[25:46]because he was the student of imam jafar saddiq alaihi salam another
[25:51]person hamran ibn aiyun who was a specialist in the quran this
[25:56]is one another very important reason why imam saddiq became so influential
[26:03]is because imam saddiq he would order his students to write down
[26:07]everything and there's a difference there's a difference when you're sitting and
[26:12]listening to a lecture and you're relying on your memory or you're
[26:16]writing down if you're writing down this is going to be saved
[26:21]that's it this is going to be preserved and imam saddab during
[26:25]his time and imam al baqir the their students their companions they
[26:32]wrote 400 books we call them al usul al araba amia these
[26:38]400 books they were the notes the notebooks of the companions so
[26:44]one of them he writes about salah another one he writes about
[26:47]zakat another one writes about hajj another one writes about various topics
[26:51]and different students the writing today our scholars right now these 400
[26:59]these 400 books we don't have them anymore unfortunately because the shias
[27:05]were persecuted and the mongols and others they invaded and they burned
[27:12]the library in baghdad sheikh hattusi's library over one thousand years ago
[27:16]was burned however our scholars what they did was that they got
[27:23]these they got they made four books right now we have four
[27:27]books sheikh al kulaini he wrote al kafi sheikh al saduq he
[27:33]wrote one book and a tusi he wrote two books and these
[27:38]books they became known as al qutub ul arbaa these four books
[27:43]that we have right now the top of which is al kafi
[27:47]it got all of the notes from the so the the notes
[28:01]in they are all gathered in these top books and today these
[28:07]our scholars we rely on these books we rely on these books
[28:12]and these books are how we derive our aqam these books are
[28:16]how we derive our laws these books are how we know our
[28:20]religion our faith we know it through these books and this is
[28:24]why it's very important my dear brothers and sisters for us to
[28:28]go back to these books for us to study these books another
[28:33]very important important point my dear brothers and sisters is that imam
[28:38]jafar saddiq alaihi salam he was different how why do we insist
[28:44]on the ahlul bayt why do we insist on following these individuals
[28:49]and not others today some people they come and they tell us
[28:54]all of the companions of rasulullah are great all of the sahaba
[28:58]the taberain are great why do you shia's focus on ali ibn
[29:03]abi talib why do you shia's focus on imam al hassan imam
[29:06]al hussein imam al baqir imam saddab why not all of them
[29:09]they were all sahaba they all learned from the prophet the answer
[29:13]is yes the others they probably have sources they probably have knowledge
[29:20]but you have to go to the source of knowledge after rasulullah
[29:24]who was the most knowledgeable of the sahaba according to all muslims
[29:29]it was amir al muminee rasulullah he says i am the city
[29:36]of knowledge and ali is the gate and all the muslims they
[29:40]knew imam ali was the most knowledgeable there's no question the khalif
[29:45]al awwal khalifatani all the all of them they would go and
[29:49]they would ask imam ali the tough questions they would go and
[29:53]ask imam ali because he was with the prophet most of the
[29:55]time he was a muslim before they had known anything about the
[29:59]religion of islam and same with the imams of the al bayt
[30:03]the imams of the al bayt imam saddiq he was connected to
[30:07]the source the others the scholars at the time they go and
[30:12]they learn here there they try to derive laws but imam saddiq
[30:16]he would say hadithi hadith abi well hadith abi hadith jadi well
[30:21]hadith jadi hadith until rasulullah he says my words are the words
[30:27]of rasulullah i'm not i'm not making up my own law i'm
[30:31]not guessing i my words are my hadith is the hadith of
[30:36]the prophet and this is why imam saddiq was known as a
[30:39]saddiq even all the others even the other scholars who did not
[30:44]accept him as an imam they would not question where he got
[30:47]the source of hadith for example if someone during the time of
[30:51]imam saddiq a hundred and forty after hijra a hundred and thirty
[30:54]after hijra over a hundred over a hundred years after the hijra
[31:00]anyone who comes and brings a hadith they would tell him where
[31:02]did you get this hadith from he would say i heard it
[31:04]from this person heard it from this person heard it from that
[31:07]person heard it from rasulullah imam sadiq he would say because he
[31:13]was a sadiq because he was the truthful one no one would
[31:17]question him because they know that he is connected to the source
[31:21]so they wouldn't ask him where did you get your hadith from
[31:24]and all muslims accepted him without a doubt even this where did
[31:32]he get this title from we believe that this was a title
[31:36]given to him by rasulullah he also said he is a saddiq
[31:52]why because the abbasi al mansur al abbasi he came to power
[32:00]after year january the the general in the army that fought abu
[32:08]muslim al qurasani he came before al mansur imam saddiq during the
[32:15]years that during the years that the the abbasis are fighting the
[32:21]there's many years of fighting imam saddiq tells abu muslim al khurasani
[32:30]he tells him i will tell you where the grave of ali
[32:33]ibn abi talib is he says when tell me he says i
[32:37]will tell you when al mansur becomes khalifa meaning al mansur is
[32:43]not khalifa yet he tells him when he becomes khalifa i will
[32:46]announce where the grave of ali ibn abi talib is because the
[32:48]grave of imam ali was hidden from bani umayyah so once al
[32:53]mansur he becomes khalifa imam saddiq he goes to najaf and he
[32:57]declares he tells them this is the grave of ali ibn abi
[33:00]talib so al mansur he found out and abu muslim al khasani
[33:04]he tells him ali ibn abi talib he knew your imam saddiq
[33:08]he knew that you were going to be the khalifa he says
[33:10]yes he is the truthful one so they all accepted in imam
[33:16]saddiq that he was the truthful one because imam saddiq as we
[33:21]said he's connected to the source of knowledge and this is why
[33:24]we insist that we must follow imam ali because he's connected to
[33:27]the source of knowledge after him imam al hassan imam al hussein
[33:30]imam zain abdul because they're connected they didn't do their own they
[33:34]didn't guess they didn't come and try to derive laws one of
[33:39]the students of imam asad was abu hanifa we've all heard of
[33:43]abu hanifa abu hanifa what would he do he would rely on
[33:48]the yas yas what is it yas is deductive reasoning what does
[33:54]it mean it means for example in for example say in tawaf
[34:00]you need to in order to perform tawaf they come and they
[34:04]say then in sai because it's also ibadah sai between safa and
[34:08]marwa you also need wudhu because in tawaf you need wudhu then
[34:11]in sai you need wudhu but the rules of allah are not
[34:14]always like that sai you don't need wudhu you could do the
[34:18]without so if you were to use your deductive reasoning you would
[34:23]say you need in just like you need it in tawaf abu
[34:27]hanifa used to do qiyas a lot and imam saddiq used to
[34:31]tell him don't do the first person who did qiyas was iblis
[34:37]he said he he did a analogy he said don't do qiyas
[34:47]the religion of god you cannot do qiyas in the religion of
[34:51]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala abu hanifa tells him why not imam saddiq
[34:56]tells him because the rules of god we cannot comprehend every single
[35:01]islamic law in our head he tells him give me an example
[35:05]he tells him right now what is greater murder or zina adultery
[35:11]or murder what is a greater crime he said of course murder
[35:15]is a greater crime he tells him but murder requires two witnesses
[35:20]and zina requires how many witnesses four four if that one is
[35:25]greater then why would this require more witnesses he gave him another
[35:28]example he tells him what's greater salah or fasting prayer or fasting
[35:35]he said prayer is more important and this is obvious prayer is
[35:38]more important than fasting he said then when a lady is in
[35:44]the month of ramadan a lady doesn't if she's on her menstrual
[35:48]cycle she does not have to make up the salah but she
[35:51]has to make up the fasting if you want to do then
[35:55]you're going to say that she has to make up the salah
[35:57]as well so he tells him you can't always do do deductive
[36:02]reasoning but of course imam saddiq is connected with the source he
[36:06]doesn't need to do qiyas the others they don't have access to
[36:09]the knowledge so they come and they start doing this ishtihad which
[36:14]leads them into bringing laws that are different from the laws of
[36:19]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala my dear brothers and sisters imam sadiq alaihi
[36:25]salam was a great role model in his in his manners in
[36:30]his teaching in his etiquette he was a role model in his
[36:34]virtues in a time where people say i'm shia i'm sunni i'm
[36:39]zaidi i'm ismail i'm this and this imam saddiq he would tell
[36:44]people don't come and say i'm this sect i'm from that sect
[36:55]our real shia are those who obey allah subhanahu wa ta'ala those
[36:59]are our real followers be good examples when people look at you
[37:09]and you're akhlaq let them say these are the real shia of
[37:13]jafar as saddiq one day a man he lost his wallet he
[37:18]lost his himyan himyan is like a belt that has a wallet
[37:21]attached to it he lost it in the masjid and then he

[37:30]that he comes and he accuses the imam the imam tells him
[37:34]how much was in the hemian he tells him 1,000 dinars imam
[37:38]saddiq says give him he takes 1,000 dinars and he gives him
[37:42]a while later the man he said i found he came back
[37:45]apologizing to the imam he said i found my it was somewhere
[37:48]else i found it and here's the money back imam sadiq tells
[37:52]him once we give money we don't take it back this is
[37:55]the of the imam in another in another instance one of the
[38:01]one of the companions of imam saddad by the name of abu
[38:05]jafar al khatami he says imam saddad he gave me a bag
[38:11]of gold dinars and silver money he says go and give it
[38:16]to that man from bani hashan there was a man who was
[38:19]related to the imam in a distant relative he said go and
[38:22]give it to him and don't tell him that it's from jafar
[38:25]al saddiq so he said i went i gave it to that
[38:29]man and that man he said who who gave you this he
[38:33]said this person he told me not to tell you who it
[38:36]is he said subhanallah i have a stranger helping me every year
[38:40]he sends me money and i live the whole year off of
[38:44]that money that he sends me and our cousin jafar saddiq he
[38:47]doesn't help me the man he said i realized that it was
[38:52]imam saddiq who was all these years he's sending him money but
[38:56]he doesn't tell him it's from him and that man he has
[39:00]he has bad doubt and imam jafar sadiq alaihi salam imam sadiq
[39:06]didn't come and say it's me i gave you no he did
[39:08]it for allah subhanahu wa ta'ala this is the beauty of the
[39:12]this is the beauty of islam the they they practice the religion
[39:18]of islam in the best way possible one day a man imam
[39:23]sadiq was in mina after the hajj while they were waiting for
[39:27]the hajj to finish a man imam sadiq was sitting in the
[39:31]tent and he's eating grapes he's eating grapes so a man passes
[39:36]by imam he asks a beggar a beggar he comes and he
[39:41]says give me some imam saadat he takes the whole plate of
[39:45]the grapes to give it to the man the man he said
[39:48]no i don't want i want money so imam saddiq tells him
[39:52]inshallah allah will give you and the man left the companions are
[39:56]watching they see another man comes and he says give me imam
[40:02]saddiq he gave him a few pieces of grape not the whole
[40:05]plate he comes and he gives him three four pieces the man
[40:09]he takes them he eats he says alhamdulillah then the man the
[40:12]imam says give him the plate they gave him the plate he
[40:16]ate it he said alhamdulillah then the imam the the imam said
[40:19]give him money they come and they give him money he says
[40:21]alhamdulillah the the imam says give him more give him more until
[40:25]he took off his shirt and he gave it to the man
[40:28]he gave him 20,000 dirham and then after the man took everything
[40:34]the the man kept saying and the and the imam kept giving
[40:39]him then they were shocked his companions he says if he kept
[40:44]saying i would have given him this whole tent and everything that
[40:47]it has this is the of imam jafar sadiq alaihi salam now
[40:53]while we are talking about grapes there's also another story from rasulullah
[40:58]a man he comes and he brings a plate of grapes and
[41:08]usually when someone would give him something he would accept gifts but
[41:13]he would give those around him rasulullah he took the plate and
[41:18]he started eating one grape and he smiles and then he and
[41:21]the man is watching he's looking at the prophet smiling so he
[41:25]comes and he takes another grape and he's smiling a third grape
[41:28]and he's smiling and the muslims they're waiting for rasulullah to give
[41:31]them but he doesn't give them until he eats all of the
[41:34]grapes and he's smiling and the man is watching the man he
[41:38]felt very happy that rasulullah is smiling and then he left then
[41:42]the muslims once that man left they tell rasulullah you didn't give
[41:46]us any usually you give us he tells them when i had
[41:50]the first grape i saw that it was very bitter and i
[41:54]didn't want to give it to you because you would have shown
[41:58]that it was bitter and the man would have been upset i
[42:01]wanted the man to remain happy that he is giving rasulullah my
[42:06]dear brothers and sisters these are the of the ahlul bayt why
[42:10]are we celebrating the life of rasulullah why are we celebrating the
[42:13]life of imam saddiq because of their great impact and the greatest
