[3:29]very this is a very exciting moment this is our second youth
[3:32]majdas and so inshallah we have our table out there right there
[3:38]for holding the art submissions and we will see the community's efforts
[3:42]for this art competition can i please have at this time i
[3:53]would be honored to be able to welcome our beloved scholar samahat
[3:56]sayyah salih qazwini up for his lecture after muhammad for the love
[5:51]of imam ali abnil hussein muhammad the twenty fifth of marks the
[6:06]martyrdom anniversary of the fourth imam of imam ali ibn al hussain
[6:12]imam zain al abideen lived for around thirty four years after the
[6:23]event of ashura and he was an eyewitness to the calamities that
[6:31]fell on his father and his brothers and his relatives every tragedy
[6:41]that we talk about that we say and over one thousand years
[6:48]when we remember and recall the tragedies that fell on imam al
[6:52]hussain we cry for imam zain al abdeen was an eyewitness he
[6:58]saw everything before his eyes so you can only imagine those masaib
[7:07]and what those tragedies did to this great imam imam zain al
[7:11]abideen lived in a time where it was extremely difficult to practice
[7:21]your faith where even someone like imam al hussain the grandson of
[7:27]the prophet for practicing his faith and for upholding his values he
[7:32]was killed this means that bani ummayah and the they had reached
[7:38]a limit where there were no more red lines for them meaning
[7:43]nothing was sacred for them imam al hussein the one who rasulallah
[7:48]says about him hussain they killed him and trampled his body and
[7:53]carried his head all over the muslim world the family of the
[7:58]prophet they were paraded all over the muslim world so what is
[8:04]their more sacred than imam al hussein this means that they were
[8:09]willing to cross all the boundaries and there was no red line
[8:13]for them and this posed a very big challenge for imam zainul
[8:20]abideen because imam zainul abideen as an imam appointed by god he
[8:27]has to deliver the message he has to guide people to the
[8:31]truth and how is he going to guide people to the truth
[8:35]when anything he says right away he's going to be killed on
[8:39]the day of they tried to murder imam zain al abideen tried
[8:44]to murder imam zain al abideen so imam zain al abideen cannot
[8:48]do anything he's very limited in what he does and bani umaya
[8:55]they have no red lines they are crossing and transgressing all of
[9:01]the values yazid he ruled by the way had ruled for forty
[9:09]years since the year '40 amir al muaminin twenty years before the
[9:14]year '40 muawiyah was governor because he was appointed during the time
[9:18]of during the time of omar and then during the time of
[9:23]uthman he remained as a governor of damascus then once comes he
[9:29]writes a letter removing him from power stays in power and from
[9:34]the year '40 the year that amir al mumminin was martyred in
[9:39]mawiya remains in power all the way until the year '60 his
[9:44]son yazid comes to power and yazid was different from even mawiya
[9:51]mawiya at least he was politically he would try to say that
[9:56]which is right even though deep inside he was very against the
[10:00]religion yazid had no boundaries whatsoever yazid he ruled for three years
[10:07]the first year that he ruled he killed imam al hussein the
[10:12]second year that he ruled he attacked and sacked the city of
[10:16]medina the city of rasulullah he sent an army under the command
[10:22]of a man by the name of al musrif ibn akbah this
[10:27]man goes into medina and he tells him for three days medina
[10:31]is halal you could do whatever you want you could do whatever
[10:34]you want they say that one year later after that event it's
[10:38]called and many of the companions of the prophet were killed many
[10:43]of their families were assaulted they say that after that one year
[10:48]there were over one over 1,000 children babies born that they did
[10:54]not know who the father was because yazid he sends his army
[10:58]to sack the city of rasulullah and in the third year yazid
[11:04]he sent his army and they catapulted the kaaba the kaaba was
[11:09]shot at with a catapult and it was burned and the walls
[11:12]of the kaaba were broken so does this man have any red
[11:15]lines of course not yazid had no red lines bani ummayah had
[11:20]no red lines so now and they have one mission their mission
[11:25]is to destroy islam they can't come and wage a war against
[11:29]rasulullah publicly but they take it out on his children they take
[11:34]it out on imam al hussein this is why when the head
[11:37]of imam al hussein was taken to yazid he started boasting and
[11:42]he started saying only if my ancestors who were in badr they
[11:46]could see that the head of the grandson of the one who
[11:49]was fighting us in badr now we have his head in front
[11:52]of us so what is imam supposed to do anything he says
[11:58]right away they are going to kill him and here we see
[12:02]the genius of imam and the personality of imam emerges and of
[12:07]course every imam they had a role that was specific to their
[12:12]times we don't believe that we believe that imams are all great
[12:17]but because of the circumstances that they are in they have a
[12:21]role imam al hussein his duty was to stand against yazid that
[12:25]was his job imam al hassan he had a duty imam zain
[12:29]al abidin he had a duty imam sadiq all the imams they
[12:32]had a specific role and duty that they had to perform so
[12:37]imam one of his tactics was through changing the atmosphere by making
[12:44]it a god fearing atmosphere when the rulers are people that are
[12:50]very far away from god that don't remind people of god people
[12:54]are not going to be reminded of god and benny umeya they
[12:58]had a plan to transform medina the most sacred city in islam
[13:04]into a city of parties and a city of gatherings and lahu
[13:08]and music and all of these things this is their plan they
[13:11]were trying to remove everything sacred and this is what we see
[13:15]a tactic going on today right now in some sacred cities they
[13:20]come and they try to remove that sacredness no no no you
[13:23]don't need to do this play music here do this that so
[13:26]that you could remove what is sacred and this is exactly what
[13:30]bani umeya was trying to do so what did imam do imam
[13:35]first of all in order to heal his own wounds the wounds
[13:40]of seeing his family and his father butchered before his eyes and
[13:45]see all of the suffering and to change society and transform society
[13:50]he started bringing people back to god people were very far away
[13:55]from god how are people going to be introduced to god when
[13:58]the leader is a man like yazid or the leaders and a
[14:01]man like marwan and these others from bani umaya of course no
[14:05]one is going to turn to god imam he would sit in
[14:09]the masjid and he would pray and worship in a way that
[14:15]made everyone also begin to worship and turn to and this is
[14:23]what he teach us in the in dua abu hamzat that beautiful
[14:26]dua by imam zainabdin he says he teaches us that even if
[14:31]you're broken even if the whole world is against you even if
[14:35]you have seen the murder of your father before your eyes if
[14:40]you have god then you still have allah and you will be
[14:44]strong that's why imam he says if the whole world turned against
[14:49]me if everyone if everyone in the east and the west dies
[14:57]quran he says if everyone is gone but all that i have
[15:04]with me is the quran the book of allah then i would
[15:07]not feel lonely why because you have god talking to you you
[15:11]have the words of allah that are comforting you and allah says
[15:16]in the quran verily it is through the remembrance of god that
[15:24]the hearts will be at peace so imam in order to deal
[15:28]with the suffering that he endured in order to deal with the
[15:32]trauma that he saw before his eyes imam turned to god and
[15:38]he teaches us he says he says your remembrance my heart lives
[15:50]and through that dialogue with you i am able to heal the
[16:00]pain in my heart this is what imam did and imam by
[16:05]the way this wasn't something new you know sometimes some people there's
[16:09]a new fad suddenly i'm going to change my life i'm going
[16:13]to start doing this no imam all the imams of the actually
[16:18]they were all they were all worshippers but sometimes one quality and
[16:24]one trait it becomes more apparent in one versus the other otherwise
[16:30]imam he is known as and there's a hadith from rasulullah he
[16:36]says on the day of judgement a a caller will call out
[16:42]let everyone everyone wait so could pass and go to paradise the
[16:48]adornment of worshippers can go to paradise and then rasulullah says and
[16:57]it is as if my grandson ali the son of hussein he
[17:01]walks and he goes to paradise he is zainul abdeen this was
[17:04]a title given to him by rasulullah but of course imam zainul
[17:09]abdeen this worship this was not something new there is a narrator
[17:15]by the name of abdullah ibn al mubarak he says he says
[17:20]one year we were going to hajj and we were travelling and
[17:24]the caravans were all travelling together and i saw away from the
[17:29]caravan away from the caravan somewhat a young child around the age
[17:35]of seven he's traveling he's walking all alone the people are walking
[17:41]from medina to mecca and they're riding their camels and their horses
[17:44]and whatever it is and he says i see this kid seven
[17:48]years old he's walking on his own so he says i was
[17:52]shocked why is someone walking alone it's dangerous you're all alone so
[17:57]he goes to he sees he has no caravan he has nothing
[18:02]to carry with him nothing to ride and no food so he
[18:06]goes to him he tells him where is your caravan what are
[18:10]you riding and where is your food that you're supposed to take
[18:15]with you for the journey and where is your goal where are
[18:19]you trying to go so he says this young child he looks
[18:24]at me and he tells me my caravan are my feet i
[18:30]use my feet to walk and what gives me strength is my
[18:36]my my god consciousness and my goal is my lord i'm going
[18:45]to hajj so he says i realized he's going to hajj so
[18:49]i was shocked how could how could someone so young he's walking
[18:55]on his own to perform the hajj so he says i tell
[19:00]him who are you he says he tells me i am from
[19:04]quraysh tell me more who are you he tells me i am
[19:10]from the clan of hashem tell me more i am from the
[19:14]children of ali ibn abi talib he says i realized that he
[19:19]does not want to tell me his name so i left him
[19:22]he says later on we go to mecca and this young child
[19:28]i see him he's sitting and there are people gathered around him
[19:33]and he's lecturing he's teaching them and they're all gathered around him
[19:37]a huge circle is gathered around him so i ask them who
[19:40]is this young child he says they tell me this is this
[19:50]imam zain al abideen alaihi salam and this was imam zain al
[19:56]abdeen he was known for his for his worship and my dear
[20:01]brothers and sisters this is a lesson for us if you're going
[20:04]through difficulty if you're going through in life give your soul that
[20:09]opportunity to speak to allah times we don't give our soul that
[20:14]opportunity many times we go and we knock on all the doors
[20:18]but we refuse to turn to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allah is
[20:21]the one who gave you the solution to every single problem that
[20:26]you might face in life allah has the key to happiness turn
[20:31]to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and imam zain al abideen became known
[20:36]as the master of prostrators one of another name is the they
[20:45]are the knees of the camel the knees of the camel because
[20:48]the camel is sitting in the desert the knees become so rough
[20:53]the forehead the forehead of imam zain al abideen would become as
[20:58]rough as the knees of a camel because he would do sujood
[21:03]he would always do sujood he would always prostrate to allah you
[21:07]know sometimes you see some people they go through some difficulties in
[21:10]life and they say why me why does this have to happen
[21:12]to me did imam say why me why did my father have
[21:18]to be butchered the greatest of all humans the greatest of all
[21:22]people no the imams of the they teach us to surrender to
[21:27]they teach us to have faith and if you have faith then
[21:32]you will persevere then you will be able to deal with the
[21:36]greatest of challenges another very important lesson that we learn from imam
[21:43]is that he played a very important role in educating people educating
[21:49]people how is he supposed to educate people he has no right
[21:52]to go and stand on the member if he goes on the
[21:55]member he's going to be killed he has no right to speak
[21:58]if he says anything right away they're going to kill him so
[22:02]how does he educate people he educates people in many ways one
[22:07]is through his duas through the duas of the al bayt my
[22:11]dear brothers and sisters when we read these duas like for example
[22:14]when we read dua kumail that is attributed to imam ali or
[22:18]when we read dua dua abu hamza or when we read that
[22:25]are both these are both attributed to imam abdin this is the
[22:29]imam sending a message to us teaching us how to speak to
[22:33]god how should our relationship be with god this is a dua
[22:39]a dua of a dua of etiquette and manners in a time
[22:45]in a society that was stripped away of all manners and imam
[22:51]he comes and he recites this dua dua teaches people how to
[22:56]have the greatest manners and of course religion is all about another
[23:04]very important thing and and and the imam alaihi salam in he
[23:11]says allah muhammad he says if you raise me in the eyes
[23:23]of people then humble me in the eyes of myself and this
[23:27]is something very important because what happens when we start seeing ourselves
[23:32]great when we start seeing ourselves wealthy when we start seeing ourselves
[23:37]that we don't need anyone then we start looking down at people
[23:40]and this is how imam al hussain was killed it was arrogance
[23:43]it was pride that led to the murder of imam al hussain
[23:47]alaihi salam and the imam would teach people building through his duas
[23:54]teaching them the of their faith through his duas another very important
[24:00]tactic that the imam had the umayyad empire was growing they were
[24:05]taking conquering land here in west con east and west conquests and
[24:10]they were bringing in slaves they would go take over a land
[24:14]and bring in slaves so the society was became filled with slaves
[24:20]so what did imam zainab didn't do these slaves they would come
[24:23]to capital they would come to medina to mecca they don't they're
[24:27]uneducated they have no power they have no wealth they have no
[24:31]money they have nothing imam zain al abideen he would purchase these
[24:35]slaves and then he would teach them he would educate them he
[24:40]would make them the best of bad of their time and then
[24:45]on the eve of the eid of the month of ramadan imam
[24:49]zain abdin he would gather all of them and then he would
[24:52]free them in the way of allah and he would say i
[24:56]have freed these slaves so free me from the hell fire he
[25:00]would teach them these lessons he would teach them and they would
[25:04]beg to remain with the imam they would beg to be with
[25:07]the imam because all that they saw was love and compassion from
[25:11]the imam alaihi salam imam he would teach people to have hope
[25:17]in allah when the whole world turns against you know that allah
[25:21]is around there is a famous scholar by the name of al
[25:26]hasan al basri today some of the sufis they they consider him
[25:30]as one of the leaders of sufism al hasan al basri he
[25:34]had a statement he would say i'm shocked at the one who
[25:39]makes it to paradise if someone makes it to paradise that means
[25:42]this person had to go through so many obstacles in order to
[25:46]make it to paradise imam zain al abideen he said he heard
[25:50]what al hasan al basri said and he said no it's the
[25:53]opposite he says i'm not shocked at the one who makes it
[26:05]to paradise i'm shocked at the one who loses the test with
[26:09]god because god is so compassionate meaning that you should not have
[26:13]an excuse to lose the test with allah allah is so loving
[26:16]and so compassionate no one should fail the test with allah this
[26:24]was imam zain al abdeen imam zain al abdeen teaches people in
[26:29]a society that created class system bani umayyah and those who came
[26:33]before bani umayyah they created class systems the arab is better than
[26:37]the non arab the people of quraish are better than the people
[26:41]who are from other parts of the arab world imam zain abdin
[26:45]he said this after in majlis yazid one of the narrators al
[26:49]minhal he tells him how are you he says he says he
[27:08]says they've created a society where the arab says i'm better than
[27:12]the non arab and the one of quraish says i'm better than
[27:14]anyone else but we the family of the prophet we are persecuted
[27:19]they had created a class system inequality and this is what we
[27:24]see going on until today there are people they are higher class
[27:28]than other people of course this is wrong imam zainul abdi he
[27:35]taught people that we are all equal even if you are a
[27:37]sayyid even if you are from the family of the prophet you
[27:41]can't say you are better than other people one of the narrators
[27:45]by the name of he says one day in mecca in the
[27:52]middle of the night i heard someone doing around the kaaba at
[27:56]that time there's no electricity there's no light there's no power he
[28:01]says i heard someone doing around the kaaba and he begins to
[28:05]say he says the kings at night the kings they close their
[28:29]doors they're not going to see who has a problem the stars
[28:35]are out and the kings have closed their doors but the doors
[28:45]of god do they get closed no when everyone shuts their door
[28:50]the doors of allah remain open i ask you to have mercy
[28:59]on me and to show me the face of my grandfather in
[29:04]the darkness of is dark everyone will have their own lights everyone
[29:13]will have their own lights with them so he says ask you
[29:17]to show me the face of my grandfather in the darkness of
[29:20]qiyama and then he says he kept doing dua doing dua doing
[29:23]dua until he stopped he fainted so he doesn't know who it
[29:29]is he says i came to him i look closer and it's
[29:33]dark i look closer i see this is ali ibn al hussain
[29:36]he says i brought some water i sprinkle it on his face
[29:42]and i tell him oh my master this is how you speak
[29:47]to god if you speak to god in such a way then
[29:49]what would what should we say how should we speak to allah
[29:53]if this is how you are speaking to god and then he
[29:57]says he opened his eyes and he tells me he says oh
[30:18]man don't come and tell me you're from quresh you're a syed
[30:22]you're from this family you're from that family because allah the heaven
[30:28]for whoever worships him sincerely even if this is a slave from
[30:33]ethiopia and he created the hell fire for whoever disobeys him even
[30:41]if that is a say it from quraysh meaning god is just
[30:45]god is adil don't come and say i'm from this family therefore
[30:49]i'm going to have a higher status in paradise no every single
[30:53]one of us we are equal this is what imam zainabdin taught
[31:00]people through his actions imam zain al abideen taught people the act
[31:06]of giving in the way of allah today some people they say
[31:09]i'm religious how are you religious i pray i fast i go
[31:13]to hajj i worship worship is only focused on the self self
[31:17]centric do dua for myself pray for myself i want to go
[31:20]to heaven this is good but allah wants you to be a
[31:25]person who gives your and benefits other people serve other people help
[31:31]other people do acts of service humanitarian acts of service to others
[31:37]this is what allah wants to see in a believer and this
[31:40]is how the imams of the were this is how rasulullah was
[31:44]this is how amir al mumineen was they all they did act
[31:48]of service for other people imam sometimes used to travel in the
[31:54]caravans going to hajj and he would hide his identity he would
[31:59]not tell people who he is and he would serve them he
[32:02]would serve imagine an imam appointed by god he would serve the
[32:08]hajj serve the pilgrims and he would hide his identity and then
[32:13]as soon as they find out who he is they begin to
[32:16]they begin to to take care of him and they begin to
[32:19]get apologized and feel embarrassed of him and then he would leave
[32:24]that caravan he would leave them and he would go and serve
[32:27]other people this was imam zayla abdi one day one of the
[32:32]narrators by the name of ibn shahab zuhari by the way those
[32:36]narrators that narrate stories from imam zain al abideen many of them
[32:40]were not shia of ali ibn abi talib some of them they
[32:43]had they were they were impacted by the propaganda against imam ali
[32:49]but then they saw imam who brought them back they saw imam
[32:53]who showed them who the son and the grandson of imam ali
[32:59]is ibn shahab zuhari this man he says one day i saw
[33:05]in a cold wintery night it was raining it's cold no one
[33:09]wants to be outside on a night like this everyone is home
[33:13]huddled in they're comfortable they are warm in their own homes he
[33:18]says i saw ali ibn al hussein on a cold wintery night
[33:22]carrying a huge bag over his shoulder and he is walking outside
[33:28]al madinah so he says i come to him i tell him
[33:32]what's going on he says he tells me i'm preparing for my
[33:39]journey i'm preparing for my safar so he said ibn shahab he
[33:43]tells him i have some servants i have some men let them
[33:47]come and carry this heavy bag why are you carrying it you're
[33:50]the grandson of the prophets why are you carrying this on your
[33:53]back he says no this is a this is a journey that
[33:57]only i can carry for only i can carry for this journey
[34:01]he says i didn't know what he was talking about he said
[34:04]the next day i saw imam zain al abideen in medina yeah
[34:09]you did not travel what happened where were you going he said
[34:14]i was preparing for the journey of the i was preparing for
[34:18]the journey of the afterlife so he said i realized that imam
[34:22]zain abdin was not carrying his own luggage he was carrying food
[34:26]to go and distribute it amongst the poor people in madinah and
[34:31]this is how the imams of the were the narration says a
[34:36]homeless person a person who has nothing he's sleeping and he opens
[34:40]his eyes he sees imam saddak he has placed a piece of
[34:43]bread under his cheeks this is how the imams of the were
[34:47]and this is how we have to be my dear brothers and
[34:51]sisters another very important lesson another very important lesson from imam is
[34:59]the lesson of forgiving don't hold a grudge in your heart he
[35:04]taught people to change that that those manners a man he sees
[35:10]an imam he sees a man by the kaaba he's saying oh
[35:14]allah forgive me and i know that you will never forgive me
[35:17]i know that you will never forgive me tells him how can
[35:21]you say that how can you say i know that you will
[35:23]never forgive me he says i have committed a crime that is
[35:28]greater i have committed a crime that is so great that god
[35:32]cannot forgive me he tells imam jain abidine what is that imam
[35:35]jain abidine tells him what that crime that is greater than the
[35:38]forgiveness of god he says i was from those who participated in
[35:42]the murder of your father i was one of those who participated
[35:47]in the murder of imam al hussain how could god forgive me
[35:51]imam he says your lack of hope in allah is a greater
[35:58]sin than the murder of my father this is imam zainul abdeen
[36:04]teaching people that the doors of god's forgiveness are always open you
[36:08]can always turn to allah never lose faith and hope in allah
[36:14]imam he faced a lot of difficulties and these days the days
[36:21]where we remember the journey of the family of imam al hussain
[36:25]from karbala to kufa and from kufa to sham imam zain al
[36:30]abideen the metal chains were attached to his body attached to his
[36:36]neck and attached to his arms and his shoulder and he says
[36:41]the a piece of huge heavy metal it was attached to my
[36:46]neck and it was attached to the neck of my aunt sayyid
[36:49]the zaydab and he says once they reached once they reached damas
[36:55]cus one of the companions of rasulullah the imam he tells him
[37:02]do you have a piece of cloth do you have a piece
[37:05]of cloth he says why do you need a piece of cloth
[37:07]he says because this metal is on my neck this whole journey
[37:12]it's on my neck this is imam zain al abideen but yes
[37:17]imam zain al abideen remained strong in the in the palace of
[37:23]yazid he gave that powerful sermon yazid asked a speaker to go
[37:28]up and speak against imam al hussain against amir al mumineen against
[37:31]the ahlul bayt imam zain al abideen who was weak who was
[37:35]ill he calls out to the speaker you have traded the wrath
[37:48]of god you have traded the hell fire for this dunya so
[37:54]your place in the hellfire is ready for you and then he
[37:58]tells him oh yazid give me permission to speak and he gave
[38:02]that powerful sermon in the court of yazid he tells them exactly
[38:10]who he is and then he tells them i am the son
[38:13]of the one who was butchered in karbala imam zainul abidine lived
[38:19]for thirty four years after ashura everyday he was reminded of what
[38:25]happened to his father imam al hussein everyday every time they bring
[38:30]food before his eyes that food would be filled with his tears
[38:35]they bring him water that water would be filled with his tears
[38:39]he says how can i drink the water when my father was
[38:42]butcher thirsty how can i eat the food when my father was
[38:47]not given food when my father left to suffer he would go
[38:53]to the butcher's market and he would ask them he would ask
[38:57]them oh butchers i ask you a question before slaughtering the sheep
[39:02]do you give it some water they tell him yes of course
[39:06]this is what your grandfather taught us then he would turn to
[39:10]karbala and he would say but my father abu abdullah al hussein
[39:15]was butchered thirsty without a drop of water he would keep crying
[39:21]and crying and crying until abu hamzat samali many of the companions
[39:27]they would come and they would tell him o son of rasulullah
[39:30]isn't it enough you're hurting yourself it's not good for you continue
[39:35]crying like this he tells them you abba hamza hamza oh would
[39:41]tell him your family is used to shahada your uncle was murdered
[39:45]hamza was murdered jafar was murdered he tells him you abba yes
[40:03]martyrdom is something that we are accustomed to but when have you
[40:08]heard one of the women of the children of rasulullah be paraded
