[0:00]Amen.
[0:08]Amen.
[0:09][sighs] Muhammad Ali Muhammad.
[0:40]Alhamdulillah.
[0:49]Saychech.
[0:59][sighs] Respected elders, my dear brothers and sisters, continuing our discussion on
[1:33]the habits of the true servants of Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
[1:37]Last night we mentioned one of the most important habits of of
[1:47]and that is the habit of constant.
[1:53]We spoke about this at length.
[1:57]Tonight I want to move on to another topic, another important habit
[2:05]of the true believer and that is praying at the prescribed times.
[2:17]You see brothers and sisters, Allah subhana wa ta'ala in the Quran,
[2:23]he has not only commanded us to pray.
[2:26]There are verses in the Quran where Allah subhana wa ta'ala gives
[2:32]us a general command establish the prayer.
[2:37]But salah is a unique obligation because it is an obligation that
[2:48]is meant to be fulfilled at certain prescribed times.
[2:52]Allah subhana wa ta'ala in he says that verily the prayer has
[3:09]been legislated for the believer at certain times prescribed times.
[3:17]It's not enough for us to just pray, but rather the mu
[3:25]has to pay special attention to being punctual in their salah.
[3:32]In fact, we have a narration from where he speaks about the
[3:42]importance of this quality.
[3:44]He says, The im he says test our when it comes to
[4:03]safeguarding the times of prayer.
[4:13]How committed are they when it comes to observing the prayer at
[4:22]its prime time, at the prescribed time?
[4:25]Now, we all know that it's important to pray on time.
[4:32]But many of us, we might not be motivated to do so
[4:36]because we don't understand the wisdom behind these specific times.
[4:44]You see, Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the all- knowing.
[4:49]He's the all- wise.
[4:50]There is wisdom behind why he wants us to pray.
[4:55]And there's also wisdom behind when he wants us to pray.
[5:02]Allah subhana wa ta'ala has not arbitrarily asked us to pray at
[5:10]without reason.
[5:13]When you look at the hadith, what you find is that have
[5:21]in fact explained to us the wisdom behind the timings of the
[5:27]prayer.
[5:29]I want to share a narration that we have that is found
[5:35]in a very beautiful hadith collection known as this is a hadith
[5:47]source one of the classical books of hadith authored by is one
[5:54]of our greatest hadith scholars.
[5:56]He lived over a thousand years ago.
[5:59]He has a book called where he collects all of the where
[6:07]the imams of they explain the philosophy behind many acts of worship.
[6:13]They explain for example why is it that is five.
[6:21]They explain why Allah subhana wa ta'ala has legislated fasting in the
[6:26]month of Ramadan.
[6:27]Among the narrations that we find in is a hadith where the
[6:36]prophet sallallahu alaihi wasall explains why Allah legislated prayer at at and
[6:51]the narration reads as follows.
[6:54]a group of Jews they came to the prophet.
[6:57]You know one of the things that we have to understand is
[7:04]that when whenasoolah began his prophetic mission or went to great lengths
[7:11]to delegitimize the movement of the prophet and one of their tactics
[7:18]was to go and consult with the Jewish rabbis.
[7:22]They would go and they would say that there's a man named
[7:25]Muhammad in Mecca.
[7:28]He's claiming to be a prophet.
[7:28]Can you help us expose him as an impostor?
[7:34]So because the they knew that the Jews had a lot of
[7:40]experience with scripture, they would ask them, give us some questions to
[7:45]ask him that would expose that he is a fraud.
[7:51]And hence when you look at the Quran, many of the ayat
[7:56]that begin with many of them they are questions that were fed
[8:01]to the mush by the Jews in Medina.
[8:04]If you look at for example surah, almost the entirety of surah
[8:12]was a response to questions that were presented to the prophet that
[8:20]actually originated from the Jewish rabbis.
[8:21]They ask you about they ask you about that person that Mus.
[8:27]So this is what they used to do.
[8:31]Among the questions that was posed to the prophet was about the
[8:36]timings of salah.
[8:39]Why did Allah subhana wa ta'ala prescribe salah at these five times
[8:46]during the day?
[8:48]And this is where the prophet sallallahu alaihi begins to explain.
[8:53]So the hadith begins with a group of Jews coming to the
[8:57]prophet, the head rabbi, the most learned of them.
[9:01]He asks the prophet, "Oh Muhammad, your Lord has prescribed prayer for
[9:10]your followers, five prayers at these times, during the day and the
[9:14]night.
[9:15]Why these times?
[9:14]Why did your Lord prescribe them at these times?" This is where
[9:21]the prophet begins explaining and my hope is that after we go
[9:26]through this hadith we will understand the importance of praying on time
[9:33]because this hadith gives us a window into the spiritual secrets of
[9:40]these times.
[9:41]The prophet sallallahu alaihi wasall he says The prophet he begins explaining
[9:57]why Allah prescribed salah at the time of at the time of
[10:03]zawal zaw means what it means when the sun is directly overhead
[10:06]the zenith and it's beginning its decline the prophet says at the
[10:15]time in which the sun is passing directly over it crosses what
[10:23]we can call a sort of cosmic threshold.
[10:27]What happens?
[10:30]What happens at the time of says when the sun passes that
[10:39]orbits the sun is now directly overhead.
[10:44]So what happens in this kingdom of Allah subhana wa ta'ala?
[11:00]Allah subhana wa ta'ala in the Quran, what does he tell us?
[11:08]There is not a thing in creation except that it does that
[11:14]it glorifies Allah subhana wa ta'ala everything does but at the time
[11:24]of what happens the of everything in creation is synchronized everything in
[11:33]creation it's doing at that time there's a synchroniz ization of the
[11:41]of everything beneath the this is the first thing that is happening
[11:46]in at the time of and then the prophet he continues he
[11:55]says you know the ayah in the Quran in surah al the
[12:05]ayah that we've memorized.
[12:24]He says there is a specific time when Allah sends salawat upon
[12:36]me.
[12:33]When is that?
[12:36]At the time of zawal.
[12:38]This is a very blessed time.
[12:43]The one who doesn't do their salah at this time, you miss
[12:47]out on the synchronized of all things in creation.
[12:52]you miss out on that window of baraka, that window of special
[13:01]divine mercy whereby Allah is elevating the messenger of God.
[13:04]You miss out on that.
[13:09]So when it's the time of when the adan is called, don't
[13:12]think that this is an ordinary moment in the order of creation.
[13:19]And then the prophet what is he saying?
[13:30]Allah subhana wa ta'ala he chose this time to be the time
[13:37]in which you and I we stand in front of him to
[13:42]have a formal encounter.
[13:42]Dua you can do dua anytime.
[13:46]You can offer extra prayers at any time.
[13:50]But the daily prayers, the five daily prayers have been designed to
[13:58]be established at moments where you can achieve maximum divine proximity.
[14:06]So this is the time of and then the prophet he says
[14:12]something that is related to the hereafter.
[14:17]He says again about the time of that is the hour.
[14:33]Now it doesn't mean literally but this is a time that mirrors
[14:39]the day of judgment.
[14:44]specifically the moment in which is exposed to the people because if
[14:48]you think about it metaphorically speaking even literally speaking the time of
[14:54]is when the sun is directly overhead.
[14:56]So this is a time of maximum exposure of creation and this
[15:07]maximum exposure corresponds to maximum exposure of Allah's power on the day
[15:15]of which is the exposure and the unveiling of now the prophet
[15:25]says what he says says, "Now what is what is the reward?
[15:31]What is the benefit of the one who hastens towards the salah
[15:35]at this time and does not delay?" The one who is in
[15:57]inj at this hour which corresponds to the time in which jahannam
[16:01]is unveiled on the day of Allah subhana wa ta'ala will protect
[16:08]the believer who prays at this time from that punishment.
[16:14]Isn't it worth it?
[16:17]Is there anything that is worth delaying the salah whereby you miss
[16:22]out on joining this cosmic this moment where Allah is sending salutations
[16:28]of the prophet.
[16:30]This moment in which reflects the time that jahannam is exposed on
[16:34]the day of judgment.
[16:36]It's an important moment.
[16:38]Everything should revolve around our salah.
[16:41]And then what does the prophet say?
[16:45]The next prayer is what?
[16:49]Now even if you even if you join the prayers of course
[16:54]should do what they should do their salah they should do they
[16:59]should do we should also get into the habit of doing the
[17:02]so there is a bit of a time gap between and The
[17:21]prophet he says at the time of why did Allah prescribe prayer
[17:27]at this time now the sun is beginning to go lower the
[17:34]light is decreasing time the day is running out says This is
[17:42]the time when Adam ate from the forbidden tree.
[17:48]This is a time that signifies human vulnerability.
[17:56]It's even reflected in the light.
[18:00]The day is ending.
[18:04]The light is decreasing.
[18:04]The sun is declining.
[18:06]It's a moment of human vulnerability.
[18:08]Allahawel.
[18:09]So what does he do?
[18:12]He prescribes salah at this time.
[18:16]We have to understand brothers and sisters that Islam is not a
[18:23]religion that was established 14 centuries ago.
[18:24]Islam goes back to Adam.
[18:29]Islam is connected to the beginning of the human story.
[18:36]The hadith from the prophet he says this is the hour the
[18:41]time of is the hour in which Adam ate from the tree
[18:46]and he was removed from the garden.
[18:55]Allah has mandated, he has legislated salah at this time upon Adam
[19:02]and upon the progeny of Adam until the day of it's a
[19:08]reminder of our vulnerability of our weakness that we need Allah subhana
[19:13]wa tala no matter who we are we need him and then
[19:20]the hadith continues Why did Allah prescribe salah at this time?
[19:44]The time of what happens to the sky?
[19:50]It becomes dark.
[19:51]The darkness of that period of the day is like a mirror
[19:58]that reflects the status of Adam.
[20:05]You see, when you go against Allah subhana wa ta's command, when
[20:08]you do something that Allah subhana wa ta didn't prescribe for you
[20:12]to do, what happens?
[20:13]There is a type of that enters the heart.
[20:18]So this time according to the narration is the time in which
[20:26]Adam repented to Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
[20:32]The hadith says what Adam repented at this time and he prayed
[20:43]three.
[20:44]Why says the three there's a reason for it and that reason
[20:53]is connected to Adam was a way of confessing his shortcoming.
[21:10]and another as a confession for the shortcoming of of because he
[21:19]he felt responsible because he's he felt a sense of responsibility, right?
[21:25]He was a very good husband.
[21:29]We should maybe you know learn to sometimes take the blame, right?
[21:33]So the second is what?
[21:37]The second was offered as a confession, an admission on behalf of
[21:50]and the third was his repentance.
[21:55]And this shows you how we're supposed to repent.
[21:59]You repent after you confess, after you admit your wrongdoing in memory
[22:17]of the of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, he prescribed salah at this
[22:25]time and he prescribed the three upon me and upon on my
[22:31]community.
[22:36]We have many that emphasize at the time of Allah says this
[22:46]is a time this is a prime time for repentance because this
[22:50]is when Allah forgave Adam.
[22:52]So in honor of his Toba, Allah says, "Call upon me at
[22:59]this time." So this is the hour in which Allah subhana wa
[23:02]ta'ala answers the duas.
[23:05]He responds to our supplications.
[23:09]Allah has promised me.
[23:17]Allah has promised that the one who calls upon me at this
[23:22]time I will respond.
[23:24]So we shouldn't delay brothers and sisters.
[23:26]We are missing out on massive spiritual benefits when we delay our
[23:35]salah.
[23:36]There is nothing that you are pursuing in dunya that outweighs the
[23:41]benefits of what is being mentioned by the prophet.
[23:43]And then what does the prophet say?
[23:51]Ask for why did Allah prescribe another prayer after is it the
[24:14]most dark?
[24:11]The most dark is not the most dark is he says is
[24:24]meant to be a reminder of what?
[24:29]It's meant to remind us of the darkness of the grave and
[24:31]the darkness of the day of judgment.
[24:36]Meaning Allah subhana wa ta'ala he knows what is waiting for us
[24:43]on that day.
[24:44]And this salah was prescribed for what reason?
[24:46]To prepare us for that day of darkness.
[24:50]The darkness of the grave.
[24:53]The darkness of So what does the prophet say?
[25:15]Allah as a gift for you and I.
[25:20]He said pray at this time because will be the light that
[25:27]illuminates your grave.
[25:29]Have you ever seen a grave?
[25:32]Many of us we go to funerals, there's no electricity in the
[25:37]grave.
[25:36]There's no light bulbs in the grave.
[25:37]It's very dark.
[25:39]Many of us, we would be too afraid to go to the
[25:43]cemetery at night.
[25:44]But there is a type of light that is more powerful than
[25:52]any worldly electricity, any worldly light bulb.
[25:57]And that is the light of salah.
[25:59]This is if you do it on time, if you do it
[26:03]on time, it becomes a source of in your grave.
[26:07]And on the day of judgment, you know why on the day
[26:12]of judgment?
[26:11]Because on the day of judgment, there is no sun.
[26:15]There is no moon Quran.
[26:24]In another ayah, there's no light.
[26:27]What is the source of light on the day of judgment?
[26:33]Look at what Allah says about the hypocrites on that day.
[26:47]The belie the hypocrites among the men and the women, they will
[26:52]go to the believers on that day on the day of when
[26:55]there's no sunlight, there's no moonlight, they will go to the believers
[26:59]and say, "Let us borrow some of your light." Today is not
[27:12]the day to acquire light.
[27:13]Where do you acquire light?
[27:16]You acquire light in through.
[27:22]So when it's the time of especially we have to hasten we
[27:29]have to rush in the nights of Ramadan.
[27:34]What are we reciting?
[27:33]What is saying in the month of Ramadan?
[27:43]IM is saying if I imad is crying, if I imad is
[27:52]worried about the darkness of the grave, what should you and I
[28:00]say?
[27:58]The hadith continues and he says, meaning We can protect ourselves, my
[28:19]dear brothers and sisters, if we are punctual with our salah.
[28:30]There are certain prayers that are so valuable that are so impactful
[28:38]that Allah made it obligatory not on ordinary people in the past.
[28:42]This night prayer when it's very dark says this is the salah
[28:50]that was prescribed on all of the messengers before me.
[28:54]So when you stand for we should feel immense gratitude that we
[29:01]are inheriting the prophetic legacy of praying at night because praying at
[29:10]night there's something about praying at night that has an immense impact
[29:16]on the soul.
[29:17]There's something about the night that if you do Allah subhana wa
[29:25]ta'ala builds you.
[29:25]There's something about the night prayer that develops leaders.
[29:32]Maybe it's that loneliness in that night that is designed to prepare
[29:42]spiritual leaders for the loneliness that they will feel when they tread
[29:46]the path of truth.
[29:48]It's a lonely path.
[29:51]Maybe that night prayer is designed to build that internal fortitude.
[29:58]And then we come to our favorite salah, the salah that we
[30:07]never miss.
[30:09]You know one one guy he asked me she I struggle with
[30:16]I said really you struggle with we all struggle with so he
[30:25]said even when I put the alarm it's difficult I even find
[30:31]the nuclear invasion ringer and it still doesn't wake me up so
[30:36]I said there's a better solution Before you sleep, drink a gallon
[30:41]of water.
[30:42]So if the alarm doesn't If the alarm doesn't wake you up,
[30:48]nature will wake you up.
[30:50]This is probably the most effective thing to do.
[30:54]Why did Allah subhana wa ta'ala prescribe salah at this time?
[30:59]Why before the rising of the sun?
[31:14]The hadith says when the sun rises, the reason why Allah commanded
[31:19]us to pray at dawn is because when the sun rises, it
[31:21]rises between the two horns of Satan.
[31:25]Now, obviously, this is not to be taken literally.
[31:29]This is metaphorical speech, which means what?
[31:34]that shan becomes active with the rising of the sun.
[31:37]People are sleeping.
[31:39]You know when someone is sleeping they're not m they're unconscious.
[31:43]The moment we wake up Shan becomes active.
[31:48]Shaitan is very he's very consistent.
[31:52]He's very disciplined.
[31:53]He wakes up.
[31:56]He becomes extremely active because he wants to misguide.
[32:00]Now what does the prophet say?
[32:04]This is a moment of vulnerability.
[32:08]This is when is beginning his work against humanity meaning before the
[32:20]rising of the sun.
[32:23]It's almost like a type of immunity that we are giving ourselves.
[32:27]We want to start our day with a type of immunity before
[32:31]we encounter and his traps.
[32:37]Shan has always exploited the time of throughout human history.
[32:44]He has misguided many people into doing what?
[32:46]Into prostrating to the sun.
[32:50]So the prophet he says Allah wants the believers to rise so
[32:56]that they prostrate to the creator of the sun before the pagans
[33:01]prostrate to the sun.
[33:10]Allah subhana wa ta'ala wants us to begin our day in this
[33:16]way.
[33:18]The brevity of is very beloved to Allah.
[33:22]You might think you would imagine that Allah would love the longer
[33:32]prayers.
[33:29]Allah says he loves the brevity of which is an important lesson
[33:39]for us.
[33:37]Sometimes we think Allah loves quantity.
[33:40]It has to always be a lot.
[33:44]is a reminder that it's not about the number of that gives
[33:51]value to the prayer.
[33:52]It's about what are you willing to do for God.
[33:57]Required what?
[34:01]It required sacrifice.
[34:01]Things that require sacrifice are very precious to Allah subhana tala.
[34:09]The two prayer that requires sacrifice means more to Allah than the
[34:17]comfortable 100 that doesn't really require enemy to give up anything.
[34:22]So these are the times of the prayer and the difference between
[34:30]praying on time and praying at a later time.
[34:33]Now I know sometimes life happens and we're not able to pray
[34:38]exactly at the time of but we should try.
[34:41]Most of the time we can make the time.
[34:44]Oh she I have work.
[34:48]Have you ever actually asked your employer?
[34:50]No, we don't ask.
[34:53]We're too embarrassed.
[34:53]Sometimes we're at the airport and we're too embarrassed to pray.
[34:57]No, no, no.
[34:58]I want to pray when there's no one watching because I'm embarrassed
[35:02]to pray.
[35:03]Why are you Why are you embarrassed to pray?
[35:06]All of these people that are drinking their slurpies and not doing
[35:10]anything, they should also be praying.
[35:12]Who is keeping the plane in the sky other than Allahawel.
[35:17]We shouldn't feel embarrassed about these things.
[35:20]There's a big difference between praying on time and praying later.
[35:24]The narration from imuhammed he says what's the difference between praying on
[35:44]time and praying later I im he says it's like the difference
[35:48]between the and the what's the difference between the and The the
[35:55]is fleeting.
[35:58]The is temporary.
[35:57]The what does Allah say about it?
[36:03]There's a big there's a big difference.
[36:06]And believe me, is there anyone here who wants to have a
[36:11]painful death?
[36:12]We all we all want to exit this world in a state
[36:13]of ease.
[36:15]You know what the prophet says?
[36:22]The narration is in Muasool Allah says, The prophet says, "Whoever pays
[36:35]attention and prays on time and does not delay, I guarantee is
[36:46]saying I guarantee that your death will be comfortable that your death
[36:53]will be easy.
[36:55]When do you suffer of anxiety?
[37:00]Do you have depression?
[37:02]Sometimes there are spiritual reasons.
[37:05]Allah says if you make it a habit to do your salah
[37:09]on time, Allah will remove the heaviness.
[37:14]When we look at what we're seeing in the world today, part
[37:18]of our duty is to pray on time.
[37:22]The news should not distract us from our duties.
[37:27]Our salah plays a role in the struggle against B.
[37:32]It plays a role.
[37:35]We don't have an excuse to delay our salah, brothers and sisters.
[37:39]And I address myself before all of you.
[37:42]We all have to work harder to observe the time of salah.
[37:45]Imam Hussein on that day on that difficult day when I im
[37:55]Hussein was losing his most beloved followers.
[37:59]This is the day Imam Hussein wasn't fasting.
[38:02]He wasn't voluntarily fasting on that day.
[38:06]He was thirsty.
[38:08]He was hungry.
[38:10]It's in the middle of a war.
[38:12]Imm Hussein knows that him and his companions they will be killed
[38:16]before.
[38:18]But still when the sun reaches the zenith at the time of
[38:29]Abu he comes to Im Hussein.
[38:31]He looks up at the sky.
[38:37]Salah.
[38:40]He says Abdah, I know it's a battle, but the sun is
[38:47]directly overhead now.
[38:49]It's the time of Did I im Hussein say we're going to
[38:55]be martyed?
[38:54]Jenna is ours.
[38:56]It's guaranteed.
[38:55]Why?
[38:56]Well, we we're in the middle of a war.
[38:59]Do you know what I Hussein said?
[39:07]He says, "Yes, this is the beginning of this is the beginning
[39:12]of the time of salah.
[39:20]May Allah make you among those who pray, those who remember." And
[39:27]Imm Hussein, he stood, he stood for salah.
[39:32]But Imm Hussein was fighting against people who did not respect salah.
[39:37]Imagine Imam Hussein, he wants to pray.
[39:40]He has to appoint two companions to stand and protect him while
[39:46]he prays.
[39:46]There are some they don't have respect for the sanctities of Allah.
[39:51]Just like today, the month of Ramadan, the month of Ramadan and
[39:54]the Zionists and what are they?
[39:55]They're dropping bombs on the Muslims.
[39:59]Im Hussein he says I need two volunteers to stand as a
[40:06]shield for us to pray.
[40:11]He says I volunteerdah he also volunteers.
[40:20]Volunteer to do what?
[40:23]Do we understand what this means?
[40:25]Volunteer to do what?
[40:26]to absorb arrows.
[40:30]They volunteered without even flinching.
[40:36]Im Hussein he recites.
[40:40]Imagine the scene.
[40:42]I want you to think about someone like Abdah Hanfi.
[40:48]He's standing there.
[40:49]The first arrow is shot.
[40:53]It's human instinct to duck when an arrow is shot at you.
[41:01]Did he duck?
[41:02]Look at the love.
[41:04]Look at the im the tawa of this man.
[41:06]He didn't duck.
[41:08]He was catching the arrows with his face and his neck.
[41:13]One arrow he absorbs it.
[41:17]A second arrow he absorbs it.
[41:20]Abdah is bleeding.
[41:23]Most people, one arrow and they would collapse.
[41:26]Two arrows they would collapse.
[41:29]But he still hears the tilawa of Imam Hi.
[41:34]He's holding himself absorbing one arrow after the other until he hears
[41:44]the of Imam Hussein.
[41:48]He was holding himself when he hears the of Im Hussein, he
[41:58]falls.
[42:00]You know the last thing that he said and we have leaders
[42:06]like this today.
[42:07]The last thing that he said, you know what it was?
[42:10]He turned to Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
[42:13]He said, Oh Allah, convey my salam to your prophet and convey
[42:31]to your prophet the wounds that I sustained.
[42:35]Tellah about my pain.
[42:38]Tell him about my wounds.
[42:42]to I did all of this because I wanted your reward.
[42:51]I wanted you to reward me for supporting the grandson of your
[42:58]prophet.
[42:59]And do you know his last words?
[43:01]He looked at Imm Hussein Abdah.
[43:09]He says, "Was I loyal to you Abdah?
[43:11]Imagine he gave his life and he still says to Im Hussein,
[43:20]"Did I give enough to you?" Hussein, he says, front of me
[43:33]in paradise.
[43:34]You were in front of me in my salah.
[43:36]You will be in front of me in paradise.
[43:39]We ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala to accept our shada.
[43:45]We say to Imahan that have we been loyal to you that
[43:51]accept these martyrs, except these innocent souls.
[43:55]We ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala to grant patience to the families
[44:01]that are left behind.
[44:02]We ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala to give us steadfastness, to give
[44:07]us patience.
[44:21]Muhammad and Wali Muhammad.
