[0:14]Alhamdulillah.
[0:34]Muhammad.
[1:04]for for the purification of the souls, the enlighten of the hearts,
[1:09]the acceptance of the deeds, and for the hastening of the reappearance
[1:13]of enlighten your souls in the atmosphere with the recitation of salawat
[1:19]upon Muhammad.
[1:25]My respected elders, sisters and brothers.
[1:31]No words of human beings can ever describe this but it is
[1:38]truly all inspiring, illuminating, majestic, magnificent, infallible, lifechanging.
[1:43]They are of course words that can give us an idea of
[1:49]the wonderful collection of the words of the almighty Allah subhanahu wa
[1:53]ta'ala revealed to the holy prophet Muhammad al- Mustafa this set of
[2:09]instructions and guidance and a constitution for the well-being of you and
[2:13]I were revealed in an age of darkness to illuminate the society
[2:19]of ignorance and take it out from wrong towards righteousness.
[2:27]And it entered hearts sincerely.
[2:29]It changed people who are shepherds into leaders and sinners into righteous
[2:36]people.
[2:37]My dear sister, brothers, make no mistake about it.
[2:40]The Quran enjoys a special status in the hearts of each and
[2:46]every one of us.
[2:46]But the question today is what is the value of this book
[2:50]in the eyes of Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
[2:53]There is a beautiful narration which is and reliable in alafi from
[2:58]the six holy imbu and I found this interesting and quite beautiful
[3:08]to start the discussion and this hadith is that on the day
[3:14]of the imisam says when Allah subhana t gathers everyone the first
[3:19]thing one of the first thing that they will see is a
[3:24]very beautiful creation of God.
[3:25]And the believers would look at this creation and they would say
[3:29]this, we have never seen anything as beautiful.
[3:38]The believers, they will say, "We've never seen anything more beautiful than
[3:41]this." And this creation will pass by these people.
[3:45]his shuada those who are either witnesses or the martyrs they will
[3:53]see this is the best thing we have ever seen and he
[3:55]will pass this creation of God will pass by them then they
[3:59]will the he will come to a group of people who are
[4:01]the morsel the messengers they'll repeat the same thing then it will
[4:07]come to the angels they will repeat the same thing until this
[4:10]creation of God will stand on the right of the ara Allah
[4:20]subhana wa tala will then say today I will reward those who
[4:36]honored you and I will disgrace those who disregarded you.
[4:38]Allah subhana wa ta'ala wants you and I to recognize the value
[4:42]and the importance of the Quran.
[4:46]But today if you speak to many people they'll say that one
[4:49]of the challenges we find in the Quran or to develop a
[4:51]connection with it especially in this blessed holy month of Ramadan is
[4:57]that we find it a little bit difficult.
[5:00]Maybe it's boring.
[5:00]Maybe it's hard to navigate it.
[5:02]Maybe there are many obstacles behind uh this particular objective.
[5:08]And especially the youth today the youth are very much distracted by
[5:13]many uh aspects.
[5:12]For example, the widespread usage of gadgets, technology, social media.
[5:19]Perhaps their focus towards the Quran is not how the previous generation
[5:25]did.
[5:26]And today we have a major challenge in this particular regard.
[5:29]But it's interesting that the narrations of the B highlight that if
[5:33]a youth invests their time in the holy Quran, they will have
[5:38]a special position in the eyes of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[5:42]Imam says, And many narrations by the way say whoever recites the
[5:48]Quran and many of the they say the narrations say whoever recites
[5:53]but this is not only regarding the recitation verbally but it's more
[5:58]of course about what we will discuss deep meaningful reflection and the
[6:03]process of understanding it.
[6:05]The hadith says, "Whoever recites it and their youth that the Quran
[6:12]will mix with their blood and with their flesh and Allah raises
[6:21]them with the righteous most elevated individual and the Quran will say
[6:26]on the day of to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala this particular individual
[6:33]spent their lives looking after me.
[6:39]So please honor him or her.
[6:40]So Allah subhana wa ta'ala then will shroud him or her with
[6:44]the garments of Jenna and they will place he will place on
[6:51]top of their head a special crown.
[6:53]Then Allah will say to that individual who's a youth who invested
[6:59]their time in the Quran, Allah will say to the Quran.
[7:04]So the Quran will stand there and will testify, "Yes, Allah, this
[7:07]person, this person, this youth, and Allah will pick them out and
[7:13]will give them a special blessing." Then Allah will look at the
[7:18]Quran and say, "Is that okay?
[7:18]Are you happy?" Yeah, this is good, but I wanted something more.
[7:29]So Then Allah will give that individual security, safety on their right
[7:40]and they will give them eternal happiness in Jenna.
[7:48]Then when they will enter paradise, Allah will say to them, recite
[7:55]meaning what?
[7:53]Quran and raise and be raised at levels.
[7:56]Then Allah will look at the Quran and will say now are
[8:04]you happy?
[8:02]Are you pleased?
[8:06]And the Quran will say and then I imam says whoever recites
[8:15]it.
[8:13]Yes.
[8:14]And puts an effort despite its difficulty Allah will reward them double
[8:19]of what just is being described.
[8:23]So you and I need encouragement.
[8:25]You and I need motivation.
[8:25]Many a times we need some push and the month of Ramadan
[8:33]is of course as we have all come to know question yourself
[8:36]what happens in spring in spring you will find that the hearts
[8:39]or the the soil is more ripe for it to bring forth
[8:47]the plants and the flowers and that's why we are told that
[8:52]in the month of the Ramadan the heart softens and life is
[8:56]given to it.
[8:58]Meaning we become more inclined towards the holy Quran.
[9:04]We become much more in tune with the magnificent words of Allah
[9:08]subhana wa t'ala.
[9:07]But here's what the problem is.
[9:09]If you examine our relationship with the Quran in the month of
[9:15]Ramadan, there tends to be a tendency towards ensuring that we recite
[9:18]it as much as possible.
[9:19]You'll see inshallah in the next few weeks as I'm blessed with
[9:25]this wonderful community to be here there will be some challenging statements
[9:28]that might be controversial or some may not like but it's time
[9:33]that we really ruffle the feathers and push some of us towards
[9:37]understanding what is it that we have got wrong.
[9:40]One of the issues that we have is that we HAVE PLACED
[9:45]SO MUCH emphasis on the recitation which is important that we've forgotten
[9:50]another key dimension of developing that affinity and that relationship with the
[9:52]Quran.
[9:53]So you find in many mosques, many centers, many mambagos, you'll have
[9:58]these sessions whereby we recite one complete juo every day which is
[10:02]fine, beautiful thing because we do need to recite it.
[10:05]We do need to make sure that that recitation is ongoing.
[10:08]But what I have not seen in my travels in America, Canada,
[10:14]Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Australia, I have not seen a single
[10:17]center that does this, that does daily, every day a Quran reflection
[10:22]session.
[10:24]Not only are we going to spend one hour the whole, we're
[10:28]going to stop maybe we'll say, "Okay, we'll read the half a
[10:31]because we're not necessarily have to recite a complete juz." Yes, whoever
[10:35]recites one ayah of the Quran in the month of Ramadan, it's
[10:38]like they have completed the whole Quran.
[10:40]That's amazing.
[10:40]But what we're going to do is instead of that one hour,
[10:44]we're going to do half an hour recitation and half an hour
[10:46]deep meaningful reflection and as we will describe something known as over
[10:52]the ayat that we have just recited or we will go through
[10:57]our own journey.
[10:56]Why is this not happening?
[11:00]because perhaps we haven't had the conversation that needs to be taking
[11:04]place about the importance of what is it that we are seeking
[11:07]to do.
[11:09]Now I found a beautiful narration from Imaff Muhammad which inspired me
[11:19]and I'd like you if there's one thing to take away tonight
[11:22]take this hadith.
[11:25]Why?
[11:26]Because I know it's a struggle.
[11:29]I know it's difficult.
[11:29]I know there are many potential challenges when it comes to looking
[11:36]at the Quran, when it comes to language, understanding it and so
[11:40]on.
[11:41]But the imam he says Imam was asked about somebody who finds
[11:52]it hard to recite to reflect to ponder finds it hard to
[12:00]be close to the Quran.
[12:00]Imam says the individual who finds it hard and has a challenge
[12:08]Allah will reward them twice.
[12:12]So you know sometimes some people are just naturally good at something.
[12:16]They're good at speaking.
[12:17]They're good at arts.
[12:17]They're good at for example sports.
[12:19]They'll play football very well.
[12:23]They'll play for example uh they'll they'll be able to build their
[12:27]muscles very easily easier than others.
[12:29]But there are others who work harder.
[12:33]And the narration here says those who work harder, those who find
[12:39]it difficult, Allah subhana wa ta'ala will reward them double the reward
[12:44]of those who might find it easy to build that connection with
[12:48]the holy Quran.
[12:50]Now what is it that we need to do my dear sisters,
[12:54]brothers?
[12:52]I'm going to simplify three things that we need to do in
[12:57]our journey with the Quran.
[12:56]This is in addition to and because this is being emphasized and
[13:02]I would like to emphasize it again we in the Shia community
[13:04]perhaps are not as h um focused on the memorization and we
[13:08]need to definitely encourage this taking place but beyond that there are
[13:15]three things that we need to look at in our Quranic journey
[13:17]and this is what we're going to do inshallah starting from uh
[13:21]day after tomorrow when it comes to the uh analysis that we
[13:26]would like to do.
[13:26]The first thing that we have to look at is taps.
[13:31]No doubt this is interpretation.
[13:32]And taps has two levels when it comes to the Quran.
[13:38]There is what's known as taps which is the explanation of what
[13:40]the ayat of the Quran is all about.
[13:43]And there is what is known as which is a deeper meaning.
[13:51]I'll give you an example.
[13:49]Allah wala says in what is it that they are asking about
[13:58]about this great news.
[14:02]Yes.
[14:02]Now when it comes to the you look at the books of
[14:05]and they will tell you that this great news is most likely
[14:11]to be the day of that people are wondering are questioning about
[14:16]the day of judgment.
[14:16]very well that is a and there could be different potential meanings
[14:24]to this but the is the deeper more sometimes introspective thought but
[14:33]something that can have a number of possibilities.
[14:39]So we have for example from he was asked what does it
[14:49]mean?
[14:51]Imisam says, "There is nothing that is greater as far as a
[15:02]sign of Allah than me.
[15:09]There is no news for Allah greater than me.
[15:21]My will was given to the past communities but they refused to
[15:26]take it.
[15:30]So the Imam Alisam would say this is what it means and
[15:38]is me.
[15:39]I am the understanding of this great news that people are confused
[15:43]about or they ask about.
[15:48]Then imam says it is definitely.
[15:55]So here what does it mean?
[15:59]Could it be the day of?
[15:59]Yes.
[16:00]But could it also be?
[16:01]No doubt.
[16:02]So the as far as some understanding is that it is but
[16:08]in this journey we have to be careful not to do what
[16:11]is known as or what does that mean?
[16:17]That means when an individual approaches the Quran with the basis of
[16:21]prejudgments that they want to impose their understanding on the Quran itself,
[16:26]we need to be careful not to have our own biases towards
[16:34]the holy Quran.
[16:32]Now the second level after taps that we would like our communities
[16:41]to talk about and we would like it to be a normalized
[16:42]thing.
[16:43]Meaning we would like people to have it as second nature part
[16:48]of their understanding of the journey towards the Quran is the magical
[16:52]wonderful Quranic concept of now this is very important because the holy
[17:00]prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam says There is no good in recitation of
[17:12]the Quran that does not have the Quran invites us my dear
[17:16]sisters and brothers towards identifying ourselves.
[17:19]Are we of those that are known as Allah inah ayah 82
[17:24]says are you not of those who do of the Quran.
[17:31]So the Quran itself is inviting us the holy prophet of Islam
[17:36]and the are encouraging us to be of the mutin.
[17:41]This is pondering this is internalization of the ayah.
[17:43]This inquires us requires us to do three things.
[17:50]Number one internalizing it.
[17:51]Number two somehow admonishing ourselves.
[17:54]And number three instigating change.
[17:56]So if there was to be a process that is describing what
[18:02]is it is these three internalizing it meaning I will now look
[18:06]at it from a personal way what does it mean to me
[18:11]how does it apply to me and secondly am I going to
[18:13]be able to make it somehow hold me accountable to my actions
[18:20]and number three will I then make a change in my life
[18:23]now theam have very special relationship with the holy Quran.
[18:30]You and I know this.
[18:30]Of course they are the says that of course but sometimes when
[18:38]you look at the way dealt with the verses you think okay
[18:41]maybe they've trained themselves but one of the reasons why they did
[18:46]what they did when they recited the Quran is that they went
[18:49]through this three stage process of which is what internalizing it admonishing
[18:56]and change.
[18:58]For example, we are told IM when he would recite las afterwards
[19:09]usually which must by the way to do this in salah not
[19:18]necessarily um at the end of before but even if the first
[19:22]if you're reciting and then before you go down into you could
[19:32]say it's yes I imam he would say this then when he
[19:35]would recite an he would say he would say there is what
[19:46]there is internalizing Allah is talking to me I I remember this
[19:49]beautiful story that once someone came to Imam in the month of
[19:54]Ramadan and he saw him working in the heat of the sun
[19:56]digging and what?
[19:59]Sweating.
[20:00]So he says to him, "It's too hot.
[20:04]You're fasting.
[20:05]It's the month of Ramadan.
[20:06]Maybe do it later.
[20:09]Why are you doing it now?
[20:10]Is this the right time for you to work so hard?" Imam
[20:12]says, "The pleasure, the sweetness of the call has made me forget
[20:24]the pain." Then when Allah addresses us.
[20:28]Yes.
[20:28]So when I read there are two ways.
[20:31]One I could just Yes.
[20:33]Oh you believe.
[20:32]And one is I actually feel it.
[20:37]Allah is addressing me.
[20:37]Allah is making me the subject of this particular discussion.
[20:41]This wasn't part of what I wanted to talk about, but I'll
[20:46]sidetrack because we've received so many messages in emails and people expressing
[20:53]frustration or at the very least disappointment or sadness and grief over
[20:58]what's happened over the last few days.
[21:01]It has broken our hearts.
[21:05]The sad loss of and he's a shahed and what some people
[21:15]have felt over the last few days is a symptom of the
[21:20]lack of the of the Quran that shows at these times you'll
[21:26]see the difference between those who are and those who are not
[21:31]because those who have ensured that the Quran is alive within them
[21:35]they can understand what Allah Subhana wa ta'ala says so instead of
[21:39]I me going to chat GPT or Google before now I immediately
[21:43]be able to have that connection with the Quran and say I
[21:45]HAVE LOST THE GREAT ALIM I FEEL SURROUNDED SUFFOCATED THERE ARE MANY
[21:49]PEOPLE THERE ARE ENEMIES EVERYWHERE what does the Quran tell me I
[21:54]should be doing now what is it that I should be reflecting
[21:57]about now for example someone might say I will reflect on the
[22:02]idea that Allah says Do not despair.
[22:09]Do not be saddened.
[22:12]You are always high in the eyes of Allah.
[22:13]But but only if you're believers.
[22:21]If you are going through hardship, don't worry people.
[22:24]Beh before you also went through difficulties and we will make sure
[22:28]different communities go through different trends at that time.
[22:35]Yes.
[22:33]Allah waala also maybe in another ayah somebody might be sitting and
[22:38]thinking okay why is it that the whole world is against us
[22:40]there's so much negative publicity there's so much lies out there that's
[22:43]been mentioned on social media there's so much of this going on
[22:48]AND I FIND IT very difficult to to to somehow come to
[22:50]terms with it or to necessarily accept it and Allah wala tells
[22:55]us what that there was times at the time of the holy
[22:57]prophet and those around him that they felt the When is it
[23:08]that Allah will give us victory?
[23:09]What's it?
[23:11]We're tired.
[23:12]WE CAN'T DEAL WITH THIS ANYMORE.
[23:15]YES.
[23:16]AND ALLAH SAYS, "WAIT, the victory of Allah is close." But you've
[23:20]got to be able to understand the way works, the way things
[23:27]work out there.
[23:27]Yes.
[23:29]And so, not only is recommended for us to gain reward, it
[23:34]changes our lives.
[23:36]It makes us better in dealing with WHAT IS GOING ON AROUND
[23:40]US.
[23:41]Because if I am somebody who has deployed the deeper essence of
[23:45]the Quran in my heart, then I'll be able to explain what
[23:51]is going on in many of my situations in my life.
[23:56]Now, im says the verses of the Quran are treasures.
[24:16]Every time you take a treasure, you must look into it.
[24:21]You must think about it.
[24:22]You must ponder over it.
[24:27]That's why in surah ay 44 Allah subh says this is a
[24:33]great lesson for those who are able to have deep insight who
[24:39]are able to look and perform what is known as.
[24:40]Now it's very easy to talk about this theoretically.
[24:43]So I'm going to give you five examples of what means and
[24:49]in the next few days we'll put it in action as much
[24:51]as possible inshallah so that we become habitual.
[24:55]Yes, let's make it habitual.
[24:59]Someone says oh no no no habits are not good.
[25:02]No it's good.
[25:01]Most of the times if we have a habit it sets and
[25:04]if it's a good habit let it continue.
[25:06]Let's look at a few examples.
[25:07]How am I supposed to ponder and reflect on the verses of
[25:12]the Quran and make myself of those whom the Quran has invited
[25:15]me to make this reflective journey?
[25:19]Example number one, Allah says inah ay 156, I will inflict punishment
[25:38]upon whomsoever I wish and my mercy encompasses everything.
[25:42]So you read this we say okay Allah can punish everyone but
[25:46]he is also merciful wonderful that is what does it mean reflection
[25:51]helps us he says I find this something powerful for those who
[25:59]are what who are wasteful of their time and in their lives
[26:03]he says he says Allah subhana wa ta'ala has made punishment only
[26:11]for a certain group but for everyone.
[26:15]So he says what in the Quran what does he say?
[26:21]He says I will punish whomever I choose.
[26:24]So when an individual is going through a difficult time or when
[26:29]they're thinking I've committed a very bad sin.
[26:31]If they use this for a they mean what?
[26:34]That Allah subhana t punishes a group people but his mercy IS
[26:38]WIDE OPEN FOR EVERYONE.
[26:39]Therefore it gives them lots of hope.
[26:43]It gives them much much more anticipation of mercy of being uh
[26:49]forgiven.
[26:50]There is a a story whereby one of his one of our
[26:58]who passed away.
[26:57]He says he himself says uh we used to go to inf
[27:03]a gathering of a person by the name of Ali and there
[27:09]was used to be many scholars who used to come with us
[27:12]and we used to sit sometimes and have discussions and this uh
[27:16]you know gathering involved a lot of scholars you know say the
[27:21]author of Mustad al-W was um and people from the southern family.
[27:30]So he says, "One day we went and this scholar was describing
[27:34]or talking about ayah number seven and so on." He says he
[27:42]began to talk about it.
[27:42]So we enjoyed.
[27:44]Then he said we left.
[27:45]We came back next day.
[27:48]He talked about it.
[27:48]We came back next day.
[27:53]He said we ex we came to this particular place for 40
[27:58]days and he was giving giving 40 different meanings of this ayah
[28:02]the says 40 different ways in which he was looking at the
[28:08]way internalizing this particular ayah so it's possible now ayah number two
[28:14]second example of how I can reflect deeply on the Quran to
[28:17]become a mutad Allah subh inah Bakar ayah number 187 he talks
[28:24]about marriage he says you are garments for them and you and
[28:31]they are garments for you regarding men and woman husband and wife
[28:40]in Allah says we have made the night a garment in ay
[28:47]26 Six.
[28:49]Allah says we have given you garments that protect you and it's
[28:56]a means of adornment.
[29:00]So it protects you from the defects.
[29:02]Now when I look at this, what does it mean personally or
[29:06]reflection?
[29:05]It means that the husband and wife they are garments for each
[29:12]other.
[29:13]If if I speak ill of my husband or wife, it means
[29:17]the Quran says the garments are there to protect your defects.
[29:23]So it is as if I am to tearing my garments and
[29:28]I am expressing to people to show them my faults and shortcomings.
[29:32]similar because if the Quran says husband and wife are like garments
[29:37]for each other and the Quran says we have given you garments
[29:40]to protect against your defects.
[29:40]Yes.
[29:41]Things that you not you don't want not defects or things that
[29:44]you want your your a private part or whatever you want others
[29:49]not to see it.
[29:48]Yes.
[29:49]The reality is today we have a problem and that is what
[29:54]that in in marital relationships people speak to others not due to
[29:58]necessity but they have a problem but they speak to others complaining
[30:01]about their spouses or they disclose the spouse's defects so that they
[30:08]get sympathy so that people can give them you know oh this
[30:13]is this is horrible this is not nice.
[30:15]Yes.
[30:16]But in reality what they're doing is they're exposing themselves.
[30:20]They are actually creating what?
[30:24]Creating a situation whereby they are disregarding their own protection.
[30:31]Yes.
[30:33]Another example of inah ay 42 Allah says said to his son
[30:44]his son said no no I will go to a mount that
[30:54]will protect me from the water.
[30:57]Yes we know the story of the son ofam.
[30:59]What does it say when I think about this story?
[31:02]Okay, very nice.
[31:04]I should obey Allah subhana t.
[31:07]That's a great one.
[31:10]But a deeper on this ayah means that nothing nothing even a
[31:14]great mountain can save me from God.
[31:16]So I should not look for any power out there.
[31:20]You know today many of the world powers they suck up to
[31:23]certain presidents.
[31:25]You are the greatest.
[31:25]You should get a Nobel Peace Prize.
[31:27]you should be doing this because they feel that if they do
[31:33]that their countries will flourish.
[31:34]They will be able to somehow get support and so on.
[31:37]Right?
[31:38]So they are considering that the might and the glory and the
[31:44]power is with certain human beings.
[31:46]Yes.
[31:47]And the son of says this he didn't say no this flood
[31:52]will not happen.
[31:52]He didn't say ah I don't believe you.
[31:54]He said I will go at the top of the mountain.
[31:56]This mountain will protect me.
[31:58]THIS MOUNTAIN WILL BE SOURCE OF MY salvation here will say no
[32:04]no no no nothing can save me from Allah.
[32:07]Nothing can protect me if Allah subhana wa ta'ala wants me to
[32:10]go through anything.
[32:14]Yes.
[32:15]Another example of Ysef 100.
[32:17]These are all for example Ysefam says.
[32:30]So Ysef Alisam at the end of the story is talking about
[32:34]with his uh community and his parents and his brothers.
[32:39]He says alhamdulillah this is all happened.
[32:39]Then what does he say?
[32:42]He says Who is at fault for Ysef being placed in the
[32:48]well?
[32:49]His brothers.
[32:51]Did he do anything wrong?
[32:54]No.
[32:53]Ysef is blaming who for this, not his brothers.
[33:00]He is breathing Shayan.
[33:01]So he's saying Shan came between me and my brothers.
[33:05]So instead of saying yes I know it's my brother's fault and
[33:10]they should be seeking forgiveness from Allah because they are really some
[33:15]people who did the wrong thing ysefam is what demonstrating wonderful so
[33:19]when I'm looking at this verse I'm saying okay sometimes people wrong
[33:23]me sometimes yes I'm at the receiving end of injustice and or
[33:30]people make mistakes how am I going to then present this before
[33:33]others how am I going to necessarily display my injustice.
[33:36]So I have a option.
[33:40]I can either expose somebody or say this has happened because of
[33:44]shan it's okay we can move on.
[33:46]Yes if I do that then I have thought about this story
[33:50]and I have reflected on it and I have been able to
[33:52]apply it into my own life.
[33:57]Finally my dear sister brothers this journey of Quran says unfortunately will
[34:03]have obstacles it's a noble one each and every one of us
[34:07]wants to do it each and every one of us wants to
[34:10]be of those people who pick up the Quran and is so
[34:14]well acquainted with it and is able to go to these ayat
[34:16]have a special relationship like imbam says if everyone in this world
[34:20]was to die then I would not feel a sense of loneliness
[34:24]is because I have the words of Allah subhana tala.
[34:27]I have the Quran.
[34:28]Our relationship with the Quran unfortunately some of us is still very
[34:32]much at the superficial level.
[34:36]I remember uh the story it's not perhaps a real story but
[34:39]it's told out of humor that there was an individual who is
[34:46]uh uh traveling with his wife in Dubai and he was walking
[34:49]in the streets and he saw this car showroom.
[34:52]This car showroom had wonderful new cars and everything.
[34:56]So he went inside.
[34:56]He asked uh the car show dealer, showroom dealer.
[35:00]He said to him, "Where is the latest car that you have?
[35:02]I'd like to see it." He said, "We received a new model
[35:06]of this new brand of this new car that's made only for
[35:08]Muslims.
[35:09]No one can else drive it." He said, "Why?
[35:12]Why only Muslims?" He says, "This car is working by voice recognition
[35:16]and the only way it drives is through of Allah subhana tala.
[35:21]That's it.
[35:21]He said, "Why?
[35:23]How?" He said, "You get into this car.
[35:25]If you wanted to start, you say, if you wanted to accelerate,
[35:31]you say alhamdulillah.
[35:30]If you wanted to break, you say subhan Allah." It was not
[35:35]made in a Shia country.
[35:37]Otherwise, there would be there as well.
[35:39]So now what happened?
[35:39]He took it for a test drive.
[35:41]He went for a test drive.
[35:44]when he went on THE TEST DRIVE, HIM and his wife driving
[35:46]in Dubai, you know, cruise control, he saidman, alhamdulillah, etc.
[35:51]Now, you know, it has this way in which it would stop
[35:57]if there is a danger or there is a car in front.
[35:58]So, he did not use any of the uh particular words to
[36:02]stop the car.
[36:04]Now, he is enjoying he leaves.
[36:05]He leaves the way he goes in the deserts and he sees
[36:08]a sign that says, "You need to turn back.
[36:09]There is a bridge coming up and the bridge is faulty.
[36:12]you need to go back.
[36:13]He has now forgotten what to say to stop the car.
[36:16]He looks at his wife.
[36:19]He says, "What am I supposed to say?
[36:22]I don't know.
[36:21]I forgot to take the number of the dealer.
[36:23]Now, how am I supposed to call him?
[36:25]etc.
[36:25]Now they panic.
[36:27]They pass through his drive.
[36:28]They see sign, you know, 1 kilometer towards the bridge.
[36:30]Bridge is under construction or is not working.
[36:33]He's panicking.
[36:34]He's he is mentioning every vicker, but it doesn't stop.
[36:37]He's forgotten what to SAY EXCEPT THE LAST MINUTE HE SAYS, "SUBHAN
[36:44]ALLAH." And the car stops right at the edge just at the
[36:46]edge of the bridge which is broken.
[36:47]He takes a deep breath.
[36:50]He smiles.
[36:50]He looks at his wife and says alhamdulillah.
[36:54]This alhamdulillah subhan allah this that we do has become habitual without
[36:59]the reflection without pondering.
[37:03]Let me give you an example.
[37:05]When somebody today tells you how do you feel that you are
[37:10]a sh of Ali and there are many instances in which we
[37:13]have been hit hard.
[37:15]There are many of our Minian sisters and brothers that are being
[37:20]killed right now.
[37:19]Yes.
[37:20]Indiscriminately due to the bombings.
[37:24]Yes.
[37:24]How do you feel?
[37:27]Or let's make it simple example.
[37:27]You're sick.
[37:29]We go and visit someone who's sick or we call them.
[37:34]How do you feeling?
[37:35]Alhamdulillah, I'm okay.
[37:35]This alhamdulillah we're saying, is it just because we're used to saying
[37:40]alhamdulillah in the hope that it means something or is it just
[37:46]habitual because I have to say it, everyone else says it.
[37:48]Am I grateful to Allah for the fact that I'M SICK?
[37:51]TODAY SOMEONE ASKS ME YOU HAVE LOST THE WHAT'S THE FIRST THING
[37:55]YOU'LL SAY?
[37:55]Can I come forward and say alhamdulillah for that?
[38:00]Someone would say why why are you grateful to Allah for the
[38:07]loss?
[38:06]The question here is am I able to reflect on this?
[38:09]What does it mean?
[38:10]Alhamdulillah.
[38:10]What does it mean that Allah subhana wa ta'ala has to be
[38:14]praised all praises to him?
[38:17]He allowed this to happen.
[38:19]Therefore, it has wisdom.
[38:20]Therefore, I submit to it.
[38:21]Therefore, it's part of his plan.
[38:24]And I have to recognize as a believer who submits.
[38:26]Yes, I am what?
[38:29]in tune with Allah subhana ta's decree.
[38:31]That is what it means.
[38:32]It is not just simply a habitual way of saying alhamdulillah and
[38:35]you know I allow it to go or how we use for
[38:40]example the famous inshallah the inshallah has become a habitual use to
[38:47]mean maybe if I feel like it probably yes not in the
[38:51]sense that I will do it but with the permission of Allah
[38:55]subhana tala.
[38:55]Hence, I will quickly mention a few obstacles before we end.
[39:00]What is it that stops us from allowing our hearts to go
[39:03]through this journey of deeper reflection and thought?
[39:09]Number one, we must do it only for the sake of Allah.
[39:13]This is not to gain a position or to be known as
[39:17]Quranic or to be somehow uh be praised by anybody.
[39:22]My journey to discover the beauty and the essence of the Quran
[39:25]and allow it to hit me has to be purely for the
[39:30]sake of Allah.
[39:32]At the time of uh Ali this great scholar there was a
[39:36]student in his class who had no understanding of the dar he
[39:43]would come there he would sit he would leave nobody he would
[39:45]not not understand anything and this the people the students all were
[39:48]feeling sorry for him.
[39:51]Yes.
[39:52]He would come for years just sit there had no understanding at
[39:55]all.
[39:56]One day he went to the shrine of Amir M.
[39:59]He cried in the shrine.
[39:59]He said Ali you know I I've been studying for years but
[40:04]nothing is getting here.
[40:05]I don't know what's wrong.
[40:05]Yes please.
[40:08]You intercede with Allah.
[40:08]Help me.
[40:09]Yes.
[40:10]At that night in his dream he saw coming to him and
[40:16]whispering in his ears and he says to him that's it.
[40:20]Next day he went to the class.
[40:23]He was completely different.
[40:26]He was disputing and debating with the Ansari.
[40:28]He was giving back answers about matters.
[40:31]People say what's happened to you yesterday?
[40:33]You had no idea the last few years.
[40:35]Now you're able.
[40:37]He would not say anything.
[40:37]But as time went by, he would not let it go.
[40:43]He would sit there with the sheh and argue too long to
[40:47]the extent people got a bit annoyed that he's getting too much.
[40:50]After a while, she als came to him and everyone went he
[40:52]came and sat next to his ear and he said to him,
[40:56]"The one who told you in your ear also told me." So
[41:03]be humble.
[41:05]It's okay.
[41:05]You think now that you HAVE DONE WE HAVE TO DO IT
[41:10]FOR ALLAH.
[41:11]YES.
[41:12]NOT for anything else.
[41:12]Number two the key thing is that yes I have to be
[41:18]humble.
[41:19]I have to recognize that this journey may involve difficulties may involve
[41:22]hardships may involve necessarily an urge not to do it but I
[41:29]have to persevere.
[41:29]Number three of great importance is the Quran tells us ayah 14
[41:36]Allah says there is a layer on the heart.
[41:38]So what is this sins?
[41:42]Yes says so one of the reasons why we don't have that
[41:46]relationship with the Quran is we're carrying a lot of burden of
[41:50]sins.
[41:48]I know sist brothers I know that we talk about this a
[41:51]lot but there can never be enough emphasis about the importance of
[41:54]toba andar especially the month of Ramadan.
[41:57]Notice how the month of Ramadan is the month of is the
[42:01]month of Quran.
[42:00]They're both connected.
[42:03]Why?
[42:04]Because the morear the more closer to the Quran you get, the
[42:07]more cleaner your heart, the more of Allah that penetrates your soul.
[42:12]So there is a need to constantly be watchful of ourselves.
[42:18]Another uh obstacle or another reason why sometimes we do not ponder
[42:26]over the holy Quran is the lethargic attitude placed in our hearts
[42:30]and minds by the shan.
[42:30]So we do not prioritize.
[42:33]We lack concern.
[42:33]Do I need to do it?
[42:35]Is it important?
[42:35]You know, is it something that I necessarily need?
[42:39]Let me give you a very simple reason to motivate you.
[42:43]If I was to ask you today, what is your favorite meal,
[42:46]dish, food?
[42:49]Yes.
[42:50]Let's just say somebody for example says kabali or for example uh
[42:56]for me it's the Iranian dish.
[42:58]This is unbelievable.
[43:01]Not too good if you are looking to be healthy.
[43:02]Yes.
[43:03]If someone says to you this one, right?
[43:07]I will make sure the best chef in the world cooks it
[43:12]for you.
[43:11]The best.
[43:12]The best.
[43:13]You will not find it anywhere in the world better than this,
[43:15]more delicious than this.
[43:18]Your favorite meal.
[43:19]And they present it to you, but unfortunately you're sick.
[43:23]You're in hospital.
[43:23]And when you're in hospital, you're wondering, okay, this is the most
[43:28]delicious dish, but do you enjoy it?
[43:30]It's okay.
[43:31]You'll eat a bit, but you're not really that hungry.
[43:36]You'll taste it.
[43:35]It's nice, but it's not as enjoyable.
[43:38]So, something that you thrive when you're like when you're healthy.
[43:44]I know this is just a worldly example, but we're told in
[43:48]Jenna there are levels.
[43:48]And those who are in paradise and have reflected upon the Quran
[43:57]will enjoy the bounties of Jenna much more than those who are
[44:02]not Quran.
[44:02]We have this beautiful narration that says that the people who carry
[44:11]the Quran the people who carry the Quran meaning that they carry
[44:17]it with understanding meaning not as the surah says just like the
[44:20]mule or the donkey carries the Quran doesn't know what's going on
[44:25]but the people who have INIF SO THAT YOU CAN get enjoyment
[44:30]the pleasure is DEEPER MORE INTENSE MORE SATISFYING more pleasure measurable.
[44:35]You want that then invest the time in the holy Quran.
[44:38]And the final thing I would mention is we need to work
[44:44]my dear sisters, brothers, on our hearts.
[44:48]The darkness, the heaviness of the or the of the of the
[44:53]heart is known as and this is as a result of many
[44:59]things.
[44:57]Sometimes it's as a result of excessive sinning but sometimes it's a
[45:03]a result of social trends that sometimes we take lightly listening to
[45:07]music interacting with the opposite gender unnecessarily.
[45:08]There are many narrations that talk about this darkening of the heart.
[45:12]Unfortunately this is a barrier and it doesn't mean that I need
[45:18]to make sure that my heart is absolutely pure and clean before
[45:20]I start on the journey of the Quran but simultaneously I must
[45:27]work with it.
[45:25]this inshallah next few um days excluding the days of the wada
[45:32]of the day of tomorrow of the holy second im and the
[45:35]shahada of and the nights these of the nights of we'll be
[45:41]focusing on one particular chapter of the holy Quran which is now
[45:44]some people will ask the question why what is the reason why
[45:50]I have chosen this surah for reflective analysis there are three number
[45:56]one I did not find a single series of of in YouTube
[46:01]or English lectures.
[46:03]So it will be the first one inshallah available for people to
[46:07]listen to and to reflect.
[46:08]So it'll be the first one here in this blessed center.
[46:14]Number two, I came across the uh attempt now for the journey
[46:18]to the moon that they are going to do in March once
[46:23]again.
[46:24]So it opened up the idea about the and number three the
[46:30]month of Ramadan is the month that uh you know most people
[46:35]often talk about the sighting of the moon and the crescent and
[46:38]so on.
[46:40]So it is relevant also to discuss this particular journey but through
[46:45]and as many as possible contemporary lessons for us to apply into
[46:49]our lives.
[46:50]What we will also do inshallah tala is as I have done
[46:55]in the previous uh months of Ramadan I often have at the
[46:59]end a one minute reflection as well a reminder for the and
[47:03]sometimes if the taps or the of the session doesn't have a
[47:09]social element I will also mention a social story or a social
[47:12]dilemma and seek some illumination and some guidance.
[47:19]So today the reminder for you and I is about in the
[47:22]month of Ramadan and this could be something new for you and
[47:26]I but this is important.
[47:29]What does it mean?
[47:29]Um many of us are very much into andaras are something which
[47:34]requires its own discussion but uh as long as we are applying
[47:40]them or using them in the right way then it's not a
[47:41]problem.
[47:42]However, there is a potential challenge or an ishkal or a problem
[47:49]of making or having anar and interpreting it whilst fasting.
[47:51]One of the things that invalidate the fast is deliberately lying against
[47:56]Allah the prophet and the so you have to be by the
[48:01]way careful also during the fast when you are forwarding messages.
[48:04]Yes, you might say I'm not deliberate.
[48:07]I'm not sure.
[48:09]But it's best to say it is narrated not to say the
[48:12]prophet did say this is what I imam Ali said or when
[48:15]we're having an argument or a discussion with somebody.
[48:16]But the issue with is this interpretation.
[48:20]There are people who say Allah has said to me I should
[48:27]do this comes out good.
[48:29]Yes.
[48:30]When they interpreting they're fasting they say yes.
[48:33]Allah said I should proceed and buy this car.
[48:36]I should proceed and get married.
[48:38]By the way, in between brackets, one of the worst times to
[48:42]do is for marriage.
[48:45]Some of our were close to making it haram.
[48:48]I heard say Muhammad was considering making it to do for yet
[48:54]today in my experience and would tell you also many communities they
[49:00]will have to do before they agree for marriage.
[49:02]The boy is good, the girl is good, there's compatibility, everyone's happy.
[49:07]Molana usually sent at 3:00 a.m.
[49:12]Yes.
[49:12]Why?
[49:13]BECAUSE ALL OF OUR PARENTS and forefathers BACK HOME, THEY DID FOR
[49:20]you have to this barak from Allahh.
[49:21]And you know what the funny thing is?
[49:23]When it comes out wrong or bad, do not proceed.
[49:24]They say, "Can we repeat it?" Say to them, "Why you want
[49:30]to repeat?" They said, "You know, because everything is good.
[49:32]So why are you doing because you you wanted to be blessed
[49:37]is not for the blessing.
[49:38]Maybe this is NOT THE RIGHT WAY OF USING I WANT TO
[49:42]FOR EXAMPLE PURCHASE THIS BUSINESS BUT I WANT ALLAH to give me
[49:45]the green light and if THERE'S NO GREEN LIGHT MANA what is
[49:48]the requirement for repetition of the can I give is it binding
[49:54]so many times we get this yes at the first instance it
[49:59]was the wrong time to use it anyway that's a separate DISCUSSION
[50:02]BUT BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU'RE interpreting during fast don't say Allah it's
[50:08]possible Maybe it is suggested these terms matter.
[50:10]The way you say it matter.
[50:14]The way you believe matter when it comes to fasting.
[50:16]May Allah subhana t protect us.
[50:18]May Allah grant us opportunity to become those who reflect, those who
[50:26]ponder.
[50:27]I encourage the watching and those who are in attendance the next
[50:31]few nights as much as you possibly can to make notes.
[50:34]Why I say this?
[50:37]Because we don't have habits of writing.
[50:39]We imam actually emphasizes this.
[50:42]He says write what you learn.
[50:43]It is normal to somehow feel I don't want to or you
[50:48]go back home and you forget most of the time.
[50:52]But if I was to ask you last year mah Ramadan last
[50:56]year shah muharam two years ago she abbas was here a naser
[51:02]was here and other scholars.
[51:03]Last year you had sheh maybe.
[51:05]Yes, good friend of mine also.
[51:08]Tell me what he mentioned on night 13 say I don't remember
[51:14]what I at and I don't remember what he said.
[51:17]He wasn't here.
[51:19]Any scholar that he was here, right?
[51:20]He will not remember.
[51:23]I won't remember.
[51:23]No one would remember.
[51:23]And the best barometer I have of the state of the Shia
[51:27]communities is I ask him after Ramadan and Muhar, how are the
[51:29]malis?
[51:30]Allah were amazing.
[51:32]We love them.
[51:32]What did the speakers speak about?
[51:36]I can't remember.
[51:37]Why is it that we can't remember?
[51:39]Because it's passive.
[51:41]Yes, you're listening.
[51:41]Yes, you're hearing it.
[51:45]It's nice.
[51:44]Okay, nice.
[51:46]Alhamdulillah.
[51:47]But it's important that we develop the culture of documenting OUR IMAGINE
[51:51]IF EVERY RAMADAN AND MUHARAM START WITH EVERY Ramadan or Muharam you
[51:55]make a small note or I'm okay with you putting on your
[51:57]phone.
[51:58]Only Allah knows whether you're checking your WhatsApp or not.
[52:00]But if you're putting notes Yes.
[52:03]And then you come back to it and you reflect a hadith
[52:07]that touched you, a moment that made you reflecting that would make
[52:11]a huge difference in your own journey.
[52:13]And then you can pass it along on your way back home
[52:18]and the discussion at Sahari time with children atar time at other
[52:20]times.
[52:21]I liked this what did you think?
[52:23]What about this story that touched me?
[52:24]Did it impact you?
[52:26]That's an effective based on of the Quran.
[52:33]May Allah bless you all with the baraka of Muhammad.
